"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Felkes.2759

Anyone who says there’s no grind in GW2 is delusional. There WAS no grind in GW2. Since the devs released “updates” that force players to do more and more specific things in the game in order to progress or get rewarded, the game has become nothing but grind.

I only log in once a week or so anymore just to nab any new living story in my journal so I don’t have to pay for it later.

GW2 is more work than actual fun.

Concerns About Unlocking Guild Halls

Felkes.2759

I’m in the same boat as the OP. I too have a casual guild where we still try to follow the game’s original tagline of “play how you want”.

Sadly, GW2 is moving farther and farther away from casual play. I barely log on anymore because with each update while I used to be able to log in, play and have fun and be rewarded for it (see old dailies and old trait system), now the game has become a job. I have to run half way across Tyria for one specific event, location, or what have you in order to get the same reward.

I don’t play games that feel like work. =/

As always, GW2 is yet another game that is anthropocentric, so all non-human (yes, norns and sylvari are just reskinned/blown up humans) get thrown out with little to no effort put into them and what makes them unique.

@OP: Did you ever play GW1. That game was perfect EXCEPT for the level 20 cap. More levels means more room to grow and becomes stronger to overcome challenges. Even if it isn’t the point of the game, having a max level for weeks in GW1 and having an area I can’t beat simply because there’s no way for me to become stronger or better to get past it is poor game design.

+1 to the OP.
Now here’s hoping ANet is good enough to sack up, and finally say “we were wrong” and bring back the game we (or at least I and older players) PAYED FOR.

You want them to remove every single patch ever?

I wouldn’t be opposed to it if it means we go back to the original feel and mission of GW2. If I didn’t have to patch to play, I would roll back manually. Every update ANet has let out this year has been terrible and game breaking.

It’s not that I didn’t have it before and want it now (thought I can’t blame people who do cause it was a cool item), it’s that somehow in the past 2 years it got misplaced on a character or bank and probably deleted by accident. =/

Felkes.2759

Even on an outfit like this, the clipping wouldn’t be all that bad, really. There’s even a gap in the middle of the skirt where the tail should go, so it looks like the model was built with the intention of having a charr tail. That’s why it’s so odd that it’s just up and gone like this.

Anet needs to see how awkward charr look without their tails and fix this soon. Please!

I thought the exact same thing!
It’s like the outfit was made to accommodate a tail, but nope. I can only hold out hope that the unanimous outrage at this will prompt some development retcon here. Sadly with all the glorious kitten ups I’ve seen ANet make and then do absolutely nothing to address, my faith in them as a good game company is dying by the day. =/

Make GW2 free to play

Felkes.2759

To the OP. No, just no. If you went out and actually played free to play games you’d know that they’re kitten and good for a few hours of time wasting, but that’s it.

GW2 is a one time fee, so it already is free to play, and that one time keeps the dreck of solely F2P gamers out of the system so that only people who genuinely care about the game play and stay.

According to the book that came with the Collector’s Edition the Tengu were a planned playable race, which makes sense since they use the same animation skeleton as the Charr and have established lore already.

So my top 3 list would definitely be
1)Tengu
2)Largos
3)Harpys

All possess sentience and culture, and cover various modes of living from land to water.

Option 2 is hands down the superior option. Removing the chance for or mitigating low drops has too many long range repercussions. But for people like my who have uncanny bad luck in everything (not hosting a pity party here, this us just a genuine fact about me :P), there needs to be some kind of extra system to counteract that.

Felkes.2759

Looks like I’ll have to wait and preview it when I’m on later. I’m never going to buy an outfit but this one is causing a bit of conversation.

It is, and that’s why I hope Anet takes note and does something, because a charr’s tail is like an asura’s ears I guess (nevermind the helmets and stuff that gets rid of their ears). Not to mention it’s one of the main gender identifiers for charr (i.e. females have bushier tails).

It’s just something that shouldn’t be up-and-removed like that. I mean, no other outfit/armor set in the game does that to the charr. Heck, a couple of the outfit even changes the tail, but honestly, I just want their good ol’ regular charr tails sticking out of their backsides.

The outfit looks so cool otherwise, it just looks like it’s blatantly missing something on charr.

Yes exactly! Take last year when we got the Mad King’s garb, it outright changes the tails. This new outfit is just oozing with lazy. =/

I’m not even going to gripe about my normal peeves which is tails clipping through most clothing and armors. This really irks me, and very few sets address it. Compared to this though that feels like nothing.
If I didn’t already know that ANet doesn’t really humor it’s consumers I’d be asking for a refund right now.

Raiment of the Topless Charr/Asura

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Felkes.2759

Felkes.2759

I don’t really see the issue.

1. Asura are mammals, and they do have mammary glands. However, there’s nothing saying that they have breasts like humans do. For all we know, their nipples are located near their crotch like cows and deer. (Would make bedroom romps with an Asura interesting, wouldn’t it?) If that’s the case, then there would be no reason at all for female Asura to cover their chests, outside of practical/protective reasons.

2. There’s been no official confirmation of how many teats female Charr have, although they obviously don’t have prominent breasts. Logically though, I’d say a female Charr would only have one or two teats, since Charr only give birth to one or two cubs at a time. Cats having as many as six teats only happens because they give birth to litters; if a species has small numbers of offspring, there would be no evolutionary reason to have excessive nipples.

The rule in nature says that animals have twice as many nipples as is their average birth size. With humans it’s one, rarely 2, so two boobs. With charr it seems similar, though I would imaging 2 is a more stable average based on their culture and traditions, so I expect 4.

As for the outfits, just no. Every other aesthetic for these races gives a precedent for how the genders dress. Though the females of both races don’t wear the shuper shexy tight stuff the humanoids do, they do dress in a more feminine, somewhat modest way. Their tops are still always mostly covered. This new Lich gear literally turns my female charr into a male by removing her gender identifier (namely the tail) and giving her no top at all.

All of these are fantastic ideas and I’d be willing to pay a small amount of monies for them.

Recovering from Big Disasters

Felkes.2759

We killed Zhaitan over two years ago and we haven’t even begun to see Orr change or any pattern change with the Risen. So likely not.

This is a good point. Because Zhaitan was THE story of the game though, I’ve let it lie. New players still always have Zhaitan as their story line.

Everything else has been extra though.

My mate reminded that after the Mad King’s arrival there was a short living story event where the citizens came together to repair the statue. I think this kind of thing is good and should be given more attention. Tyria was beautiful, and still is in many places but after these big disasters normally nice areas like Kessexs Hills and Lion’s Arch are getting, just destroyed and left that way.

There’s the occasional NPC hammering away at rubble in Lion’s Arch but are we ever going to see it repaired?

Recovering from Big Disasters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Felkes.2759

This is kind of a suggestion, but more of a discussion so I decided it fit better here than on the other board.

Living Story brings us some big and epic events within Tyria, but these events have a tendency to change the world around them. And rightly so, I’d be disappointed if we didn’t see some aftermath after such an event was over.

My question, and kind of a concern is, will we ever see the world restored? Will Lion’s Arch ever be repaired. People who’ve been here since the beginning will probably remember when the Mad King first broke into Tyria how he destroyed the statue in Lion’s Arch central square. it took forever just for the statue to get fixed, at the current rate I kind of worry that Lion’s Arch will just be left in ruins forever.
The place was a pain in the rear to navigate before but like this is just awful.

Same with Kessex Hills. After the tower fell the whole area has stayed a mess, especially around the lake where you have to weave in and out of debris.

Will these areas ever be cleaned up?

Here’s something I want to know that I really want to hear form the staff on. There have been several glaring problems in recent patches that have the community in an uproar, and in which the player-base shares an almost unanimous stance. Two of the best examples being the update to gaining traits, and the more recent level gating.

Because of the shared negative opinion and desire of the players for a return to the old system, does the dev team even consider, or will they ever consider, that they made a mistake? That this new content isn’t good and they should step back and re-evaluate, or is this going to be a Windows style, plunge in head-first, no looking back, people will get used to it, kind of thing?

Retaliation needs a new tooltip

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Felkes.2759

Felkes.2759

It currently says: “Reflect incoming damage back to its source; stacks duration.”

Retaliation does not reflect or mitigate damage in any way.

It should say: “Enemies take damage when they damage you; stacks duration.”

The tooltip doesn’t say that it mitigates any damage. It says that it reflects it, and that’s exactly what it does.

Reflecting implies, you know, reflecting. Meaning the damage bounces off you back at the enemy. In every instance “reflect” is used to imply you take less or no damage and it goes back to it’s source. This is the only game that doesn’t.

I agree Retaliation needs a clearer tooltip description. As is now, it’s quite misleading.

Support for this thread and everything it’s trying to say. ANet doesn’t listen to it’s community, the people who bought this game and by extension keep them afloat. This is all too clear by the utter fail that the September patch did with bumping back traits, slots, skills, and class abilities. Not once have I seen this even addressed. No response from the development team or their PR despite the unanimous outcry of disdain for this monstrosity.

Revert to Old Levelling System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Felkes.2759

The new one sucks. It’s awful, and there are so many reasons it would take too long to list all of them, so if you have a reason you want to contribute please do so in a response to this.

For the time being this thread is here for one purpose. To bring to ANet’s attention that we are beyond merely unhappy with what the September “patch” did to levelling. Blocking off key game features (EG trading post) behind level walls, and pushing unlocking features of each class further and further back.

I strongly urge people to +1 this, respond to it, spread it around because this change the devs made is unacceptable. We didn’t pay for this crap. We payed for the Guild Wars experience that was.

It’s ok to balance, it’s ok to tweak. It is NOT ok to overhaul a system that worked just fine as is.

Too Many Commander Icons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Felkes.2759

Felkes.2759

We asked for what? More commander flooding because I for one never ask for, or even bothered with anything relating to commanders.

And joining a squad isn’t a fix. I don’t join squads or even parties unless I’m with friends or to coordinate for an event. Telling someone to just join a group as a way to ignore the problem is like saying to just pour some vodka on a slashed artery.

Too Many Commander Icons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Felkes.2759

Felkes.2759

Here’s context for this. I’m playing on the Plains of Ashford with a low level character, and I see (as best I could count) 15, maybe more, commander icons on my minimap. There’s no world boss in Ashford, there’s no reason for those commanders to be there unless they’re playing their own low levels and have it on for some reason.

So here’s the problem. I have 15+ rainbow doritos blocking up all of the other icons on my map. PoIs, Hearts, they’re bigger than just about every other icon. And there’s no way to turn them off.

There needs to be an option added in with the interface options to hide commander icons. Just like how you can hide player names, these things are useful at times, but everywhere else they just get in the way and turn my maps into an eyesore.

This is untrue. I’ve gotten this message and still can’t see my mini every time, on every character that’s gotten it.

It’s always been a thing that in a full area if there’s too much going on, or if too many people have them out you can’t pull out your mini. This system, it seems you can have it “active” so if it can be shown it will, but if not then it wont. It’s better than before, but it has made things easier, so everyone has minis following them now, and now the problem is just too many, so most people won’t see theirs unless they’re somehow one of only a few people on a map.
