Champion Slayer | sPvP Rank 90
Dragonbrand
Another season stucked in gold because of guys like these, making my rating “establish” because the system thinks that I’m getting close to my real ladder position…
Translation:
Guys! Look over here! I am gold! Very gooood, right? I know, i know~~
~but I am even better than that, just you see. All these others around me are all stupid and don’t deserve to be my height. If I win I deserve it, if I lose it’s the kittene balance~
Don’t mind me, I’m just a rifle engineer who’s trying to make sense in unranked~
• Battle of Kyhlo
• Forest of Niflhel
• Legacy of the Foefire
• Revenge of the Capricorn
• Temple of the Silent Storm
• Battle of Champion’s Dusk
These other 4 are not e-sports anyways~~except Hammer of the Sky, shall we start calling it
• Eternal Coliseum
• Skyhammer
• Spirit Watch
• Courtyard
@Ivantreil
Your build is amazing!!!
I wasn’t quite aware of scrapper’s actual access to a function gyro which allows stomping from a range. This is something a rifle engi can actually capitalize on more than a hammer engi does.
Not to mention the elixir spamming’s might stacking and the subsequent quickness. People could get sniped all of the sudden if they don’t pay attention.
The total lack of any kit makes this build oddly straight-forward yet somehow complex enough to be enjoyable.
Not sure if it can be competitive enough, but it is something really fun. You should try posting your stuff on MetaBattle, too! Thanks again
Bring Celestial Amulet Back
Pros: Make Meta Great Again
Cons: 404 Not Found
Reasons: I miss Rifle Engineer, D/D Ele, and all the fun-to-fight-against bunker builds that were slaughtered in the 2016 Winter Update
At this time where zerker builds and elite specs dominate the meta, bringing these back could add a bit of variety which couldn’t hurt during a off-season, right? :P
How about allowing gliding on all existing maps and applying invulnerability while gliding? The current meta is quite bursty so this could offset it a bit.
Been playing with a cheesy engi rifle build, and, tbh, its doable against some classes, i have great time against necros, thiefs or druids, however, its horrible when people start to focus you, if you cant keep yourself in the background getting ignored, you are gonna have a hard time with those matches.
And this goes specially for classes with a lot of access to projectile hate (Eles/Warriors/Engi Hammers), your only chance against these 3 mentioned before, is attacking them when they are distracted or when you entered in rampage mode.
With that being said, i still manage to get a decent win/loss ratio, not so horrible as some expect, and i keep playing the build, never felt like the build its not working or that this is impossible.
Hmm. Would you mind showing us how it’s done?
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vdAQFAUlcThqrYtWw+KQ+FLsFFYIuBBg4GNFPxYcMGfBA-TJhAwAAeAAkLDcb/hQXAAA
I have made a sloppy draft build over here. At the moment, I am taking rifle engineer as a pure condition build and have put in some toughness for survival. I feel that the part of “keeping oneself in the background” is hard to achieve as rifle 5 outright pits the engineer into the center of attention. Rifle 3 also needs to be in close-to-mid range to be effective.
By this, I mean both the rifle engineer and the rifle warrior
Rifle engi used to be a meta when Celestial Amulet was a thing
Nowadays I hardly see any
Rifle warrior is sometimes (if at all) seen with greatsword power builds
But suffice to say, neither of them is really viable in the current meta. Why do you think this is happening and what can the balance team to bring them up?
In a world where the supposedly manipulative, robe-wearing necromancers are actually the most tanky guys in gameplay~
Just one map is not going to suffice because it gets old really fast. Even after just 2 Betas I am kind of finding Skyhammer more interesting than Champion’s Dusk
You would want people to formulate their builds around the characters and the modes, not around one single map——if you don’t churn out new maps for Stronghold there will be teams that queue prepared to exploit its terrains like people used to exploit Skyhammer in unranked. There are people who do that for Courtyard which is the sole TDM map we have and it ruins the experience.
I like Stronghold. I want it to be a major thing, not another TDM or Skyhammer, which people find fresh at first but then just cast aside thinking them as being non-competitive. Thanks
As someone who mains necromancers in PvP I wanna say ‘bien’ but that would probably kitten you lot off.
But I’m gonna say it. ¡Muy bien!
Not just any hot girl…but someone that carries the heavy weight of history.
Do we have a large enough playerbase to do that, is my question
Also, what about the queue time?
The timer was meant to stay in line with Conquest and Courtyard, both of which will be in the same queue with Stronghold when it goes live. Guild Wars 2 has an extremely tiny PvP playerbase for now so this helps preventing even longer queues.
But at the same time it is quite anti-climatic as you guys said so why dont we just remove ALL the timers altogether? The other two modes rarely hit the time limit anyway
The old ranks for were more like a record of how much you grinded in PvP…if you put in enough time, even if you lose the majority of it after 3 years you could be rank 60+ which is…not good for your health.
Any title that says something like “Champion xxx” is way more reassuring about your skills than just putting up ranks. It is not uncommon to see Rank 20s beating Rank 80s these days
1. Need Tutorials: Somewhere in Heart of the Mists THERE NEEDS TO BE npcs that simulates the Stronghold map. When half of matches are about new players coming in and not knowing how to spawn archers or doorbreakers at all you know you did not explain the rules well enough.
2. Make Doorbreakers 25% slower and 50% sturdier. The amount of players rushing speed meta and racing to churn out these skritts are alarming
3. New maps please. If you can’t make it happen by next Beta~well, alright~say something that hints about them? If you’re advertising this thing as a ‘mode’ not just a ‘map’ variety is definitely going to matter
So i just noticed that necro is getting a new animation for her/his Axe#1 in this patch?!
ITS SO COOOOOOL
Sorry I am too excited. I mean, really, s/he now sheathes the offhand while doing Axe#1 and the new swing feels very natural. Whoever made this, well done!
Hi Hugh,
Can any comment on giving stronghold it’s own queue when the expansion hits? Lack of build templates combined with conquest, tdm, and stronghold on the same queue will just lead to more frustration.
This has surely been something talked about for a long time but has always remained at the discussion stage I suppose the best response we as players could do is to run roamer/zerker builds that are least impacted by different gamemodes. I am not sure if this is a way to make the bunker builds fade out when more SH maps become live.
Hi,
I am reporting this guy (or whoever goes by this this character name) with an attached screenshot of the letter he just sent me.
Knowing that mails sent by real ArenaNet staffs would have a logo with them, I had to guess that this is a fake.
What I am worrying, however…is how these guys manage to find my account and mail me. Very possibly this is done by preparing a written file and sending mails to whoever goes into Heart of the Mists. Regardless, when you receive such stuffs mates be careful.
I was hoping we could test another map alongside Champion’s Dusk. Having just 1 map and still requiring us to vote is kind of…funny? XD
But it’d be reassuring to know that Champion’s Dusk is not the only map in this mode…it sort of put me off that Courtyard was the only one in TDM
Hey,
Throughout the weeks there has been some small updates. Please go have a look
You can post your feedback on either the Dropbox page or over here
Thanks
well when you play certain classes like celestial rifle engineer and celestial ele there is less need to swap cos they are quite versatile. I am saying these are actually good builds~the balance should encourage more builds like these~better than zerkers and spammers etc etc.~I am ready to be flamed ^V^
we’re getting a game that has actually changed its directions many times before even this expansion.
1. The time when it was heading for Conquest strictly and Temple of the Silent Storm, Spirit Watch and Skyhammer were all designed with the vision that this mode will be the long term rule.
2. The time when the devs realize class balance is actually the real issue and started trying to bring warrior and necromancers on par from being underpowered. Unfortunately they could only focus on this while people were also raging about Conquest was a boring mode etc.
3. The time when Custom Arena came out then Courtyard came out. By this time, PvP was already a sliver of what playerbase it had during the 2012 launch. And at this point, the PvP team talked about developing new PvP modes but for some strange reason they did not want to show it ‘until it’s done’. For players, we just feel the direction is utterly confused or nonexistent.
4. And now we know the new game mode is Stronghold. Again, the revelation came too slow. Many people already left. Whether the devs (not PRs like Josh because let’s be honest he is the guy that works the hardest and jokes the least around) are admitting their sloth or at least not trying hard enough to prove that they want a serious esport~~we will only see with HoT..
I like your idea of forcing 1 player on the 5-men team to spectate when 4v5 happens.
Furthermore, if we can migrate the auto-balance system from hotjoin into unranked and ranked (as in when it futher botches down to 3v5)~
Being a little opportunistic here. The following link takes you to a GW fanfiction I am currently writing. Cantha is featured as a major player against Kryta and other nations/factions in a distant future in it so I believe you guys might be interested
As always, I hope ArenaNet can provide further and more direct responses on this topic. Thanks.

Guild Wars 2 needs to address its primary concerns more directly (instead of just releasing more skins) to get the attention the brand deserves:
(1) Living Story:
Although it recently ‘got better’ because of ‘sylvari being dragon minions’ but let’s be honest, it’s not even original. Prior to the S2 this was no more than a joking fan fiction. The writers currently in charge relied on community generated contents indirectly. Dialogues and sub plots between major characters are still meh. Lore related to the original Guild Wars remain mostly unrelated or utilized poorly. The choices made by players still have next to no impact on their own experience.
(2) Player vs. Player:
Balance patches need to come out way more frequent than its current rate if GW2 is ever to be taken seriously. Also still no template!? Seriously how hard it really is. We’ll be having TDM, Conquest, and Stronghold all in one queue without templates more player rages are imminent
(3) Twitch TV a.k.a. Ready Up & Point of Interest:
There exists an unnecessary separation between these two. PvP people only watch the former and other people only the later. Why not just merge them all into one to cut the cost of producing two lines and also boosting the viewer population? Also, less jokes and banters between the staffs and more serious stuffs when they’re on screen please…most of the jokes I just don’t get cos I am not an inner circle of their frands right? For me it’s more like a ‘showoff of the dev’s social skills’ than a serious show to communicate with us what’s next in store. I end up closing most Ready Up’s before finishing watching, feeling disappointed and slightly offended by how casually the devs are taking the community concerns

Like the big American pie. Mixed color, unevenly distributed but only slightly so. Not very white. No classicism stuffs. Get it?

Check the Ranked Arena section. Certain popular builds have video links right in the pages that contain them. Since you’re concerned about how to combo correctly the texts detailing the methods are imo more helpful than videos. They are in there
Have fun and welcome
—the clones and phantasms
Alright, sounding like a troll here because those are the essential parts of mesmers in GW2, right? But here’s what I observe: in most unranked games, regardless of skills, fighting any mesmer in situations beyond 1v1 becomes easy so long as there is one person that Ctrl+T the real one and the other(s) T to focus fire. Once you’re pass this really technical barrier, mesmers are just squishy zerkers—and frankly they’re not even reliable at it. Illusions that are about to shatter charge at you with this quite obvious, standard movement animation I am sure most players at my level of skill or above me can dodge easily. And I consider myself a very average player.
So at the same time, newbs claim mesmers to be OP, unkillable, game-breaking yadayadayada because they could be spamming all their bursts on 1 illusion and then getting killed when the real one comes out—and they still have little idea how to break that barrier which is identifying the real ones from clones. I think this is also why every viable mesmer build involves Dueling X (Deceptive Evasion) because dodge-made clones really gives you free reign over noobs which is…admittedly fun.
Meanwhile, in competitive games mesmers become underpowered and have such limited place because almost every player on that level can tell a real mesmer from clones without even paying much attention.
My suggestion: Combine mesmer clones and phantasms—in fact, how about making them all phantasms so they have this purple shape everyone can immediately tell. And then make all phantasms more durable, hit harder when Shatter skills be unblockable without traits so the balance team can focus more on balancing the numbers rather than mechanics. Playing most PvP games as Guardian, Necromancer and Elementalist, I think Mesmer has so many skills that rely on the opponent’s inability to read information to win it is not really possible to make it in line with others if we don’t change its nature
What do you think?
(edited by Ferik.3127)
Hey,
So I was asked this by a friend today. We both PvP with our thieves and he saw that my thief was a girl and asked this question: “Why would you play a girl if you’re a dude?”. And I was not able to answer that because I truly have no idea
I only know that as a straight guy, 18 of my 36 characters in Guild Wars 2 are female and the other half male. As for why I am quite confused as well. So here’s to you who might have done the same thing. Why do we do that?
You should take a look at Marjory’s dagger and axe, on the gem store (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/2/2b/Marjory_Delaqua_render.jpg) .
You also have the axe Ophidian with a snake around it but I find it quite bulky (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/3/30/Ophidian.jpg).
When it comes to armor, look at the named armor sets. There’s a snake on the shoulder (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/0/06/Seer_armor_human_female_front.jpg)Hope it helps
And here’s my Necromancer Jià Zhú Táo with the brand new fan!
I just wanted to log in and say your character is very aesthetic! I like how your dyes are harmonically complimenting the fan’s colour theme. Really gotta wonder if you have learned designing or something—-well done!
Banshee would be a really awesome concept, but doesn’t the name naturally exclude—-you know, all male necromancers from taking it because you know—-lore-friendliness
I am not sure whether I am joking, trolling or being deathly serious
On a side note, I wonder what the necromancer’s elite specialization will be. With greatsword as the new weapon the Death Knight vibe is strong
Hello,
I have begun writing a Guild Wars fiction. If you can help me read it and provide feedback, I would deeply appreciate it. It takes place approximately 16 years after the current Living Story Season 2, in an alternate future where the humans have returned to their height of power as a dominant race similar to Guild Wars 1
Hope you like it
@Moderators: If you see this PLEASE DO NOT move this to Community Creations section because I would like feedback from Lore readers specifically. Thanks!!

Look what you’ve done!!! You just ruined mah favorite Disney movie evar~!
(1) Take down/remake the Conquest maps at HoT launch
Even if I have to play Champion’s Dusk all day long, so be it. But in my opinion most existing conquest maps have the potential to be remade and be reborn as a stronghold map. Take them down at launch, and let people focus and practice on the entirely new PvP experience which I can safely say makes Conquest look like pre-Alpha.(2) Re-release remade Conquest maps as Stronghold, 1 at a season
Hell no!!!
While I am also happy to see a new map I am a little bit skeptical about these new „pvp experience”. This map is full of NPC’s (archers, doorbreakers, guards, heroes, the lord) and gimmicks. As far as I remember PvP means Player versus Player and not Player versus NPCs or Player helping NPCs to open Doors. Every week there are dozens of threads from people complaining about the much AI (turrets, minions, pets, illusions …) in PvP and this map is full of AI. So I think we should wait and test the map before we go crazy and convert everything to stronghold.
You know what, I agree with your points. Luckily, 14th April is not far away so it will soon be quite relevant for us all to comment on this. The current Conquest does have one thing I enjoy which is minimal A.I. from the maps themselves
So, while or after you have watched this mode, I wonder what would be going on in your mind.
But this game mode is too good. So good that I cannot see it co-exist with the current Conquest maps in the same queue. It’s not because the builds designed in conquest are not going to work here. It’s not because the rules are too complex. It’s because this map—and this mode on the whole—-is what we have been waiting for. Not just the PvPers, but all Guild Wars players.
For an exclusive PvPer like me, this Battle on Champion’s Dusk is Legacy of the Foefire with truly active and diverse NPCs, plus the excitement on Battle of Kyhlo, the close-quarter-tension on Forest of Niflhel and the graphic level of Skyhammer. I don’t see it co-exist with any Conquest map in a queue because it is in its own right the reincarnation and combination of ALL Conquest maps. And if the rumors are right, this is just 1 among multiple Stronghold maps.
Stronghold is in my summary a PvP mode that possesses WvW elements but is on a 5v5 therefore on a comprehensive and competitive level, and even the most stubborn PvE players would love it. There is no stupid player separation with this mode. If you like or can tolerate the good old Conquest I do, your strategies can work here because whatever you did on Legacy of Foefire can be done here and work——and no more boring backcapping and guardian bunkering. If you like WvW then Stronghold is essentially your game shrunk into a much faster and smaller map, with much more decision making and an excitingly fast pace. If you’re a PvE there are summoning and killing NPCs and all kinds of people (such as Skritt and Tangu) you have come to know and love are present in Stronghold and builds that excel at killing A.I-controlled creatures can have an impact. Hell, these heroes you summon even got some background stories with them!
I hate to use League of Legends as an example but this is the Summoner’s Rift of Guild Wars 2. Any other existing map look like nothing but a simplified portion of this thing. I don’t know about you but there is no point for me to go back to Conquest once this mode is launched. Because in the old Conquest setting we have 2 choices: Bunker or Roamer (or turret engi~). Anything that fall outside these 2 are not encouraged and should go to PvE or WvW.
With Stronghold, this is the thing that unites all three player bases—-it is a PvP mode with the very spirit of Guild Wars 2: a bit of everything for everyone. Here’re my suggestions:
(1) Take down/remake the Conquest maps at HoT launch
Even if I have to play Champion’s Dusk all day long, so be it. But in my opinion most existing conquest maps have the potential to be remade and be reborn as a stronghold map. Take them down at launch, and let people focus and practice on the entirely new PvP experience which I can safely say makes Conquest look like pre-Alpha.
(2) Re-release remade Conquest maps as Stronghold, 1 at a season
-Legacy of Foefire is already quite close to this mode at the moment. Add in the portals to summon NPCs and some outer gates at the roads between far and home points.
-Battle of Kyhlo comes next in line. Expand the spawning location and merge it with the Trebuchet into one operational base. Put the NPCs summoning devices and Guild Lords there. Make several routes to the enemy base that can be opened/sealed by the NPCs or the Trebuchet (for example, a rock tower that collapses to seal the tunnel when hit by the treb. NPCs can then be deployed to reopen the tunnel.)
-Forest of Niflhel has this exciting opportunity for ambushes and rushes at the beach area already. Expand it by putting some more stuffs in that area. Maybe an outer gate that is more easily broken than the ones at the Keep. Svanir and Chieftain should be harder to kill now and should reward more strategically impactful buffs, such as the ability to summon forest creatures to storm the enemy gates once killed. Lower the altitude of spawning locations/bases so enemies can walk into them, put the Guild Lords there and replace the wooden doors with the portals/gates with the ones that resemble Legacy of Foefire
(3) Redesign the Leaderboards
The current leaderboard which tracks only the win/loss rate of players is too simple to be e-sports. Add in the league system which I am sure is already under development. Add in charts that track hero/NPC summoning on different Stronghold maps and Supply contribution——make it so that people reading the leaderboard can see how different ways of playing the same mode can lead the same victory/defeat.
There you go.
As a necro main I somehow could regard this as good news I guess?
The logic here, however, assumes that turret engineers put their turrets all in one place which is only true of lower level players. Nugs play turret engi and crowd their turret in a corner—-in which case a lot of AoE oriented builds can counter them.
On higher levels, however, when turret engis know to spread their turrets around the battlefield and utilize the crossfire zones…that’s when this class gets really unstoppable. AoE obviously wouldn’t work in this case because the turrets are so spread out you can only shut one down at one time——while the other 2~3 pin you down.
Is s/he committing cannibalism? Yes or no? Please provide your reasoning
;)You made a mistake it’s “Provide your seasoning.”
This made my day
I can name another MMO which has (IMO) “Great music, Fun Gameplay, good design &” a masterfully-told main storyline, but I can also name other problems which plague that MMO.
No game can ever match up to our full expectations. As long as the game is good enough, that should suffice.
Well, I don’t know; GW2 did advertise itself as a revolutionary MMO, so ‘good enough’ is definitely not the standard it should feel sufficient about.
Because I come from PvP, which is imo the least invested area at the moment but boy, I actually enjoy playing it and still buy things on the Gem Store every once in awhile just to swing those around in PvP matches. This game just has enough fair contents to open my wallet, but I would really like to see the part it invests most heavily on to do some actual deliverance. Otherwise, I am sure I would not be the only one who feels his money is not being used properly to create the extra hedonic benefits
~~a very, utterly, if not blackhole-suckingly TERRIBLE STORY!!!!!!
Seriously, how can this be!?!?!?
I am not joking, the music and the graphic of this game…they are tear-droppingly great. PvP is fun every once in awhile but since this could make another topic let’s drop it for now. The new armors and new outfits that come out on the Gem Store…they just keep breaking the record of looking epic. I have to say these are some of the best armors I have ever seen in any fantasy game. Which makes it all the more ironic that…..this Living Story thing…which I thought, given the attention it gets, is the thing that gets the most development on…actually turns out to be the least enjoyable hours I have spent in the game.
It tells the whole story in a disconnecting manner that I have to fight to not fall asleep. All of the interesting characters are given linear way of thinking and speaking, butchering their could-be-great presentation. I have to question who the writers are. Because to be fair, the entire idea of making Sylvari the dragon minions—-is great! It’s the presentation of this idea that is rubbish. It fails to deliver the surprise and spook that could have been there. Just putting kitten -long boss fights in between dialogues is not the way to tell a story. You are telling the players a 5 minute story with hour long boss fights (ok exaggerating here…but spending 10 minutes soloing a boss to read a 20 second dialogue is definitely no good story-telling)
I have stop here. Have to play some unranked in Skyhammer and 1v1 some turret Engineer and think about how I should better live my life. Have to listen to the Guild Wars 1 OST and some Jeremy Soule stuffs in GW2, too. Have to remember this is still somehow a good game and that the Living Story rubbish did not happen in my life.
Ever.
Sylvari are made out of tree, they have no feelings.
You’re going to provoke an angry mob of treehuggers to come after you with words like that. There’re people and entire organizations that devote their whole lives to tending to tree feels.
I chop a tree, I hear no screams. No tears. No blood. No feelings.
A sylvari skins a human, s/he sees no barks. No botanic fibre. No sap. No feelings.
How does that feel?
Is s/he committing cannibalism? Yes or no? Please provide your reasoning
;)
So, umm, this is something I just found today. Don’t ask how I found it cos I consider it private. Though I suppose you could guess correctly. C’mon, we’re all human beings.
Since Guild Wars 2 has been such a revolutionary game—-you see, it challenges so many traditions of MMO. It even puts lesbian people right in the center of the stage. So I suppose something above is not going to result in me getting banned. Right?
Umm, I hope it’s right. Enjoy watching!
/Shadowsteps away
Ho, there,
So i would like to report this bug which happens with Norn characters that carries Braham’s shield which was a purchasable skin on Gem Store. Specifically, the shield is wrongly displayed to be very tiny in the character profile, whereas in the world it is displayed in its correct/normal size.
Attached is a screenshot to show the difference. As you can see on the left it is as its normal size in the game world, whereas on the right its size barely passes as a stone tablet in the character profile~~evidently a bug that needs squashing
edit: The same size error also happens on his mace if you look closely. This could be a mistake in the file that affects globally weapons sheathed on Norn characters, not just this set.
Hope you look into it ASAP. Be seeing ye~

Not that it isn’t already said by many others above me, but is the Might nerf really needed alongside the Sigil of Battle nerf…?
With no touch on Celestial, I can only see DPS players phasing out, Might stacking builds vanishing—among which is a Pistol/Dagger Thief build—something I actually think is fun to play—, and the meta shifting back to more bunkering
The new runes and sigils might bring in some new builds utilizing Torment but seeing some Might build disappearing in the near future…I am not positive this patch increases build diversity
edit: At the very least it is slightly comforting to see Mesmer’s confusion builds may emerge again. They have been silent recently thx to the amount of Guardians and condi cleanses out there. I say that as a Guardian main because I do not think a less diverse PvP is going to benefit me, either
