As a Traditional Chinese player, I’d like to point out the Chinese voice acting in this trailer is
VERY
BAD
like just bad. Period.
this new trailer is awesome ONLY if muted. I simply cannot understand why such an epic new piec needs to be ruined by the horrendous voices..
(edited by Ferik.3127)
I wondered why the playing GW2 PvP today feels random and that my actions cannot change the outcomes if I did something wrong at the beginning~
Don’t want to be a jerk. But it’s likely ANet is going to ignore this thread like they did to most really important/non-whining thread.
I very, very much hope that ANet proves me wrong. TOTALLY
……as a necro player, I used to say “suck it up and L2P” but now….
….PAX is happening 8/31……..
and this is what the game looks like….
this is even less balanced than StarCraft 2 during its Wings-of-Liberty Beta….
1. Does nothing about the bugged Poision condition unless someone says this on the forums
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Poison-doesn-t-work-at-all/page/2#post2464948
2. Does nothing about the reward system and until people set the Forums on fire
3. “Real life stuffs blah blah blah”
It’s not just you, kay, we ALL have real life stuffs going on….but even people like us (who do not take gaming as job) have got time to come out with FAR-MORE CONSTRUCTIVE topics like THESE:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Passive-Play-is-Terrible/first
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Current-state-of-the-meta/first
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/How-much-is-enough-Enough-is-Enough/first#post2411668
And I don’t even need to point out that the OPs above are longer than most of your PvP-related posts…..
Solo queue is definitely on the horizon. What everyone has been playing now will become ‘Team Arena’ (group queue), and we will additionally add a ‘Solo Arena’ (solo queue). The ratings will be split, and each will have their own leaderboard. We’re also planning on shipping a couple other long-standing requests with Solo Arena that many have been waiting for. A blog post will go into details about everything.
Rewards are high on our list. We’ve been coordinating with other teams, as it has a game-wide impact. They will certainly take some time to complete and you should expect to see Solo Arena much sooner.
You know this is only making it worse?
Why keep saying “high on our list” when the fact sheet doesn’t even show?
Why keep making “will do”, “will certainly take some time” and “already in the plans since” last year while not doing much about it?
and Solo Q is nothing new. It has been requested since game launch and you missed the best possible time to implement. It’s like you’re not going to do it anyway…
please…just stop pretending that we players are some impatient whiners.
Just because there are no games like GW2 out there at the moment doesn’t mean you can “take your time”
You want us players to learn to have “patience” like you…..PAX is well on the near horizon and honestly, it’s quite impressive that you continue the “chilling around” attitude like this……

“The major focus of the PvP team for the second half of the year will be tied to improving the sense of reward in PvP. In the spirit of the high-level strategy listed above for PvE/WvW rewards that ensure players feel rewarded for their time, we’ll need to build systems that achieve the same goals in PvP. Our PvP team will go into more details on these systems once they are further along.”
Reward system has been almost 1 year without ANY improvement……
Now, where is this “go into more details”?
You could always try winning tournaments.
As I said already, I’m not a big fan of pugs
Woa, what it is?
ANet gives you PvEers something that is supposedly obtained from tPvP and now you want more without even participating in it?
I love this idea, actually. Necros have their unique condi that is Fear. Perhaps having Taunt would bring warrior to the same level with other 7 classes
I think what ArenaNet wants is a PvP with faster pace. We now have a condition meta that rivals (even exceeds) the dmg of power builds
As a result, PvP is now on a faster pace than before, yes, and bunkers are no longer that annoying. BUT it is just so fast that players hardly have time to think.
An e-sport is supposed to encourage thinking and strategy, but right now, planning is not that important. Just bring in the RIGHT classes, since all we can do is to instinctively react, which draws the game further away from e-sports
I would like to know this as well. D/D Eles is the majority and Staff appear to be a myth now
Are you kidding. kitten I had this kittening game.
You don’t say. It IS an endless grind-fest+super RNG with Mystic Toilet
And ANet says this is E-SPORT!
1. Major Suito
Commoner Thief
Weapon: Krytan Pistol x2
@Trying to create a modern commando style here. I’m still looking for a dye that would make that Mistwalker coat look more rugged.
2. Liddy Morrigan
Street Rat Necromancer
Weapon: Forge Dagger & Forge Focus
@Chestpiece: Cabalist
-in my story, I imagined Liddy to have a broken/ravaged right face when she was cursed by another necromancer at her youth
-as such, she wears this Armageddon mask to cover the ugly wounds (I must praise ArenaNet for making it appearing as half mask on female characters!)
enjoy
(edited by Ferik.3127)
They did say in there we should expect a pvp blogpost. So let’s hope we get that sooner than later.
yes!
Just a guess, is it possible that the current Rank 60+ gears will be added into the solo-Q rewards, suppose there is one?
every time someone kittens about kittening kittens a kitten kittening kittens itself
So yeah I’m Arthas.
I’ve been waiting for someone to post this XD
“Frostmorne hungers!”
Warrior Greatsword meta for 2nd half of 2013:
1. Equip legendary Greatsword. The shinier the better
2. When meeting enemies, draw Greatsword and wait for his GPU to automatically overclock/overheat/explode
3. Cast 100-Blades. If using Legendary, the enemy should not be able to react at all
Result: Profit
yes, ANet is making a fun PvP game. But to go e-sports, what we have now is far from enough.
I’m not saying we should bash them more, but really, we cannot afford to throw empty praises around these forums when a REAL tournament is on the horizen!
As the titles says~
With the recent balance patch, Necromancers have (definitely) become a viable choice in PvP. Warriors are coming back, though this is controversial
But what about Elementalists using staff? All the builds I saw today are either Scepter/Dagger or Dagger/Dagger. Where are the staff users?
Have you noticed that staff skills have been nerfed to the ground that nobody just want to use it anymore?
it’s really like finally falling in love with a GW2 PvP map….then to have it all taken away from me……
QAQ
if any of the existing maps can be a e-sport choice~it would be:
1. Skyhammer
2. Temple of the Silent Storm
the strategies on all the rest are simply too linear to make matches fun to watch
+1
all PvPers can do for now~~is GRIND the grinding hell toward the can-watch-can-never-catch Rank 80
WHICH IS BORING!!
why is such a primitive reward system even allowed to exist for almost 1 year within a game that TOTALLY emphasize on moving away from the traditional grindfest MMOs??
I’ve read all of the replies and all of the views and examples that have been given can be applied to new content that then stays in the game. Why must this content then be taken out of the game for any of these examples? Why can’t new content just be added to the Personal Story? Imagine if your personal story was on a limited time basis, Would that make it more immersive? Or more importantly would that imersion be worth excluding players that missed it in its timeframe?
Exactly this. The resource and time spent on developing such Living World could have secured a continued Personal Story. Now, it just seems that Personal Story is left to rot post Trahearne…….
It’s been almost a year and there has not been ANY update on the broken PvP rewards.
No explanation on the ever-escalating rank points. No rewards for devoted PvPers while PvEers get to have Zenith weapons & free PvP boxes for their devotion….
no NOTHING
GG, ANet. You’ve totally defeated me….
ANet’s grand E-sport vision in a nutshell
(I don’t like b!tching but sorry, just couldn’t help
)
great thread
This map was extremely fun and extremely hilarious. Some things that it really made it stand out from other maps.
1. Positioning- Now we can go on all day about how people think positioning is important in all maps. But face the facts bad positioning in relation to you enemy was never that big of a deal. Sure your positioning on the map over all may be if you were extended too far from your team but I am talking in relation to the one opponent you are facing at the time. The fights on this map really felt more intense because you were either
A. Fighting with your back against the wall trying not to get pulled into the sand wurms or you were trying to position it so you run over the glass and then pull someone on there and you run off… (apparently that takes no skill or timing…) If you mess up well then you are both taking a huge sand nap. I had this happen where a necro spectral grasped me on to the glass but he didn’t get off as soon as we got to the bottom in /say we both just said “hahahahahahahahahaha” which brings me to my next point.THIS MAP IS FUN and competitive. IMO fun should come first. There is nothing more hilarious than sitting on B and you look over and see 2 or 3 people falling to their deaths because the animation is hilarious.
This map forces a new meta that is specific to this map. Now some people hate it. Most of the people I played with loved it. Even some people in my guild (a warrior) said he hated all the CC and he hates that his build doesn’t work for the map… Simple solution CHANGE YOUR FREAKING BUILD! Hammer warriors with kick and fear me and rampage (lol it finally has a purpose) are amazing on this map. Yet some people just don’t want to adapt but they just scream they hate the map.
I have read somewhere that Anet doesn’t want people to use the same build for every single map in tournaments…. So why do people get all bent out of shape when there is finally a map that encourages a new build for your class?People say there is not counter play to this map? To be honest this is the first map where there is a large amount of counterplay other than just bunkering a point and hoping you don’t get condition spammed to death. Stability is more than a minor annoyance. Knockbacks and pulls are way more threatening. The fact that this map makes you build for it is what makes it great.
Anet bring the map back into rated matches and tournament rotations.
To the players build for the map enjoy it and make laugh as you play because after all its just a game <3
QFT
~sigh it is no wonder people would do all the zergfest in hotjoin, cos for some it really is how the envisioned “good” PvP should be, in their mind~
After all the awesome matches since Tues til now, and reading this forum~~that is all I have to say.
Please, make it happen.
Thank you, ANet. Goodnight for now
Seems people can’t learn to play. Too many 1 v 1 s and 1 v 2s on maps like Spirit Watch and Skyhammer I guess. RIP the best of the maps. These secondary mechanics really change the games up. No longer can players just focus on holding points and killing players but have to actually fight off point over a cannon or an orb. These are the things that make the game interesting. Hopefully more valuable secondary mechanics can enter the game unlike kyhlo, forest, and foefire.
Exactly…..I never could understand why Spirit Watch was not brought back even after the Orb bug was fixed.
Now the tPvP map-pool is stuck with all the old maps. Except TotST….
Players like straightforward maps such as Kyhlo, I’m cool with that! But why position-heavy maps like Skyhammer need to be looked down upon like this!? This is nothing but brutes’ justice
1. Too many shattering floors
-They are awesome cos they make creative positioning such as ranged units stepping on it beforehand to set up a firing ground, it also weakens melee classes too much.
-Keep the shattering floors on the Skyhammer room, but keep the ones near capping points unbreakable.
2. I’m okay with Skyhammer’s canon DPS but it should be dodgable. The canon is an important factor, yes, but should not be the only decisive one
3. I have said it and I will say it again.
BRING SKYHAMMER BACK TO TPVP.
YOU MUST BRING IT BACK or I swear this will be biggest waste of your creative talents ever, ANet!!
thank you for speaking up against the tyrannical power that’s been dominating the PvP forums, sir!
Skyhammer came down as my favorite map so far, not because it is new, but because it encourages creative positioning. I really had fun on this map using new meta but I also was expecting such a backlash from the forums….Skyhammer has too many features. These set the bar too high, other old maps just cannot compare at all.
IT SUCKS BIG TIME that Skyhammer is getting removed……a waste of effort for such a great map
(edited by Ferik.3127)
FOR GREAT COSMETICS!
..I mean, For Great Justice!
guys, PLEASE just tell me at what level will Trahearne enter my story.
Cos when he does, I’m going to STOP PLAYING my personal story right there, jump back to sPvP, and pretend that my personal story has ended right before the Cabbage Head showed up.
For Great Justice!
this needs to happen and I believe it is not as hard as we’d think. We already have the full tracks of our personal stories in the Hero panel. All our choices are already recorded in it
Flame, it does not have to be 8 path to each story part, it needs a LOT more
Not sure how many have played Dragon age (wont matter 1 or 2). Maybe even hell Mass Effect, or actually even Gw1.
—And thank you for the good feedback, i hope the devs keep on eye on this topic, and atleast mention something, sometime.
While I agree with you guys, I understand that expecting Guild Wars 2 to have a BioWare (I’ve played them all. ME1~3 and DA:O+DA 2) quality of story is TOTALLY DELUDED. This game has so much more to take care of, not just the single-player story. PvP, for one~
A complex branch like Dragon Age: Origins is impossible for Guild Wars 2, Dragon Age 2 would be something to look up to. It has a much clearer “2-sides” to it.
Or even Mass Effect 2 & 3, both of which had at least 2 very differentiated outcome at every turn (including the highly controversial ending of ME3, by the way~)
Currently, my choices in the story seem to have short-term effects at best, which make those choices unimportant. Endings are the same. Dead-or-Alive of major characters are the same. Not personal.
Originally, I really didn’t expect Guild Wars 2 to have branching storylines. I would be totally accepting if all races are given a linear storyline to follow, because this is a MMO, not a BioWare RPG.
But hey ANet, it was you who claimed this to be a personal story, in which my choices would shape the world around me. So, come on, keep your promises, and make it count
This has always been the issue I have with Living Stories
if I cannot keep it, I do NOT want to have it.
spoken like a true master of the game!
~I know this may sound dumb, but would it help if we just make Toughness able to reduce the condi dmg? This is a violation to the very origin of condi (un-defendable by armors) but after reading the entire post I had to come to such conclusion
Maybe if you won 100 tournaments with the armor equipped you unlocked the skin for pve..?
Or an item that allowed you to convert a pvp skin you’ve played enough matches with?
Alternatively the conversion item could only work for rank gear and not tournament gear, as that’s considerably easier to get given the appearance etc. Would pve exclusives complain though? I don’t have much grasp of that side of the game sadly.
I would support this, too. The fact that sPvP is not contributing to anything else outside itself is rather strange
rank 30 is really the best I could grind to. Anything beyond that is unreasonable.
Grinding is not a healthy way to play Guild Wars 2 PvP. Hell, this is not how anyone should play ANY game!
I appreciate that I have Inquest and Orrian to show off atm but my Sylvari characters seriously need those cultural armors to look like a real sylvari instead of some plant-in-clown-costume!
How bout this.
You bring your PvE armour and stats into PvP!! Its only your accessories and rings etc that get disabled. But what if I am not level lvl 80?..Relax buddy, it’s ok..you can create a pvp only toon that has access to anything you’ve unlocked in PvE!!
But what if there is some things i have yet to unlock in PvE?..again, it’s all good buddy, you can use glory to unlock any item in game for pvp created alts.
What If I don’t have enough glory?..well my son, you gotta get playing then. You can’t just pick-up any ol’ flavour of the month build off the net just like that. You now have reason to stockpile glory for times you wanna do that.
What happens then once I have unlocked everything?..what do I do with glory now smart guy?..again it’s all good, you can use glory to purchase other rewards that can have benefit in both PvE and PvP..if your PvE toon you’ve hauling butt with in PvP doesn’t have a certain item, you can purchase chests that provide you with a chance to get more rare items.
This sounds a lot like guild wars 1..exactly…why did they abandon that system. This in my mind is my biggest question of all…why did they abandon perhaps one of the better reward systems in M.M.O games?
~are you the voice in my head!?
Yet obtaining the same looking equipment from PVE is usually less grind than PVP =]] Would you rather go 50 times to some crappy dungeon with certainty to get rewarded or would you rather try to farm people till you reach rank 40 or 50 from rank 1?
You made a point. However, being a tPvPer myself I actually was (very) lucky to obtain sets of Armageddon, Scaled, Inquest~~blah blah blah before I was even rank 10.
My character was only level 17 back then.
I would say tPvP CAN be less grindy if you went with the right group people. Or have the right level of skill.
I have to, though, agree with you that outside the tournament plays, everything is grind, especially those Rank 40+. There is just so much time needed one’s skills simply cannnot speed up the process.
~Then again, questing/leveling in PvE can also be categorized as grind, since you do have to invest far more effort/time over skills to level up. (/troll-face)
…I hope we get a DLC fixing this ending like Mass Effect 3 did with Extended Cut
Will this bring more players from PvE/WvW into PvP?
For example, the armor/weapon skin I get in PvP can be converted into transmutable pieces when I leave the Mists and go back to questing.
So as a result, I get to wear my whole set of Inquest when I am merely level 15 and that smells like ~victory!!
Just my two cents.
I just came by to say this thread made my day <3
my problem with PvP is that ther eis no gear progression and you cant show up your gear as a way of “skills” or “time spent”. Nobody even cares about gear there, there is nothing to brag about, and nothing that can tell you you are “progressing”. On top of that you have to decide if your wings are PvE or PvP. PvE where most of the action happens, or PvP where people go to test the different builds since doing it on the actual PvE is near impossible due to money and time gated issues, also fastest way for the daily.
Rank and Titles, if you’re talking about gear in terms of appearance progression then yeah, that kinda doesn’t exist since you can get all the dungeon gear in PvP with tourney tokens and other stuff.
This is true, and the genre of gears you can get in PvP is pretty limited unless you can grind all the long way to rank 20 or above.
The progression/effort-spent ratio is, at the moment, not reasonable in PvP.

First off, I am totally overwhelmed by joy to see that ArenaNet has successfully developed another chapter of new contents. Add to that this:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/07/02/guild-wars-2-major-updates-every-two-weeks
So I would like to know, will PvP-only players (as in myself, I have 15+ characters but I only play that 1 human necro in PvE) get better and more rewards?
Guild Wars 2 is going to have major new stuffs every other week and I just need to know it’s not all about Living World~
Thanks! And great job with Skyhammer the new PvP map! <3
To demonstrate you the Equality between Challenge and Reward:
Let’s take Hotjoin as a false example: Challenge = Not existing, Reward = higher than in competitive play. You see the reason of it now?In conclusion your answers are far away from what I said. I doubt you ever played GW1, otherwise you wouldn’t bring such a post. Also I doubt you allrdy experienced competitive play in this game, otherwise you would know that the time-investment for competitive play is not rewarding at all and doesn’t support a healthy competition.
……you either pretended you have read my post or figured you’ve lost this debate……I cannot help you
a good debate is one that is based on the topic itself, plus what you and people have said, not what you think people have said or done. Really, if your intention here is to disgust people with your attitude, then congratulations, you have definitely accomplished it
(edited by Ferik.3127)
I think the best fix would be visible enemy cast bars, preferably under nameplates.
Gawd I can’t believe how we are making this sound like a mission impossible.
WoW has this since years ago. GW1 had this. GW2…
._.
In all respect, but whoever thinks that gear and other cosmetics defining the incentive for PvP, haven’t actually understand the structure of it at all.
What then, is the structure of it all? Competition? What special things do competitive people get out of this?
The cosmetics by no means define the whole incentive for PvP, but I am positive it is a big part of it. Or of now, the only thing that can at least provide it.
The very incentive for a competitive PvP, is the ability to differentiate pros from normal players. Unlike StarCraft 2, Guild Wars 2 does not have a structured ladder and I do not foresee it getting one. As such, cosmetics are for now the only thing able to provide such a differentiation.
PvP is about competition, it’s about prestige symbols and it has to be equally challenging and rewarding.
I agree, AND your most-hated cosmetics are the only prestige symbols now. Yep.
Kindly I ask you WHERE is this “equality” between challenging and rewarding? You don’t get a better reward if you actually manage to do a challenging skill-combo.
But you do get a better reward for grinding longer, which is not a challenge.
An unskilled player can grind more than pro as long as s/he has the time. I do not see any relevant relation between challenge & reward that supports your point.
I doubt PPL would play PvP longtime if T3 would be available at R50. What’s next, when they hit R50? ……..Exactly, there is the real incentive of PvP.
Didn’t you say that cosmetics would not and should not be an incentive? Why, then, would people even stop playing AFTER they have access to T3?
If this PvP incentive is about competitiveness & has nothing to do with cosmetics, like you so claimed, there is no “What’s next?” problem because the game is equally competitive and challenging regardless of your looking poor at R1 or looking awesome at R50.
So to all Gear-Fetishists out there: please stop with your cosmetic-BS and your “I cant reach R80, it’s soooo hard”-BS, because this has nothing to do with the idea of PvP-incentive in general.
It seems to me that you are addressing this rather on the people, not the argument itself. Honestly, a “I hate you cosmetic-lovers” would have sufficed, you do not really need this many words to waste people’s time with your emotion.
(edited by Ferik.3127)
It is insulting to see these Rank 70 and 80 gears totally beyond reach of any sane player.
No one is going to follow this linear grinding machine, which rewards 0 bonus to player skills.
make it so that you can buy all the weapon and armor skins purchasable with glory as well. like for example having the basic starting looking armor as the cheapest and the exotics and cultural armors being the more expensive ones. and this goes for weapon skins as well. it’ll give people something to work towards.
I’m sure these will be gem items.
And the gear systeam you are talking about is already in the game from an r1-80 scale. r1=worst
r80=cultural
No, the R1~80 is not rating any relevant scale. Hardly anyone could ever purchase the gears above rank 40s because the amount of grinding required is beyond reasons.
As a PvP game, players SHOULD be rewarded based on their skills. Now we’re locked in the state that we have no choice but to grind the 1 only way up toward the linear rank system. There is NO progression-based-on-skills, which violates the very fundamental of PvP.
I would be content if ANet make R80 gears cost 10,000 Glory each piece and available to players even at R1. AT LEAST we’d have a direction to work toward.
Now, it just seems that I would NEVER get those R60+ gears I wanted because considering my play-time everyday, they are simply 2 or even 3 years away!
In my opinion just it seems like the reward system for sPvP was not very well thought-out , at all.
There is no reward system. There is only the grinding.
