everything, including the Game Browser, is laggin now.
…let’s see how ANet show its capability (or the lack thereof) in this
Rytlock’s voice? Hmm~
“Keep that Clocktower or I’ll have you split in half!”
“They have the Clocktower. Useless, all of you!”
Hmm, my recent whine thread got a whole page of replies, this one got two, haha.
Yeah, I would like more, but remember that we came from basically nothing, now we get levels, gold, better gear, gear we get in pvp can be useable in pve? (down the track?), and the devs did a 180 on game modes- from 100% “we will only do conquest” to starting work on new modes; I could go on, but you know, its quite a cool place they are taking things.
Nice to see a guy with dignity
Worry not, though, whining is a nature in forums like this.
After all, GW2 is a great AA game and people who post here all want the game to be perfect. It is only our right to help ANet make it that way.
I’m saying~~everywhere in this world, you see praises for Guild Wars franchise, so I’d say a little more critics on these forums is healthy for ANet, lest it gets to their head
- scripted AI provides more challenge
You know what
Scripted AIs in PvP….are MORE challenging than most active players
How about converting PvP materials into PvE crafting materials?
yes please
How about crafting PvP gears and bring them into PvE?
I have crafted all armour available for my rank and I still have tons of materials.
Craft dyes. Sell them on Trading Posts
Never gets old
but despite all these compains, gw2 still comes as top choice for mmo pvp in online discussions
Well it has rather talented PR team.
This is true. It’s why MLG let GW2 in
We gonna keep this keep for if we can bump the bumps ANet drops by the drop may as well take the note and write this up when patching the next patch
How about converting PvP materials into PvE crafting materials?
yes please
How about crafting PvP gears and bring them into PvE?
On the right track? Definitely
Good enough? NO
We now have:
-Cultural Armors in PvP: Niiiice!
-Magic Find increase through Daily and Monthly: Double nice!
-Coins in sPvP is far from enough to make ends meet: Need improvement
-Gear are diverse but still come in RNG: Need overhaul!
-PvP Skins cannot carry over to PvE: Not impressed. Try harder!
-Still no PvP Legendaries: Need improvement
This is just the start, and I trust we will get something good this year. However, it is way too early (in my opinion) to say “really impressed”. This is after all, a temporary solution. Things need to be spiced up even more and it better happen soon before people lose hope for PvP rewards AGAIN
With this voice, right?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dWPPgHj8rMHoly mother of fark…..
I wonder what would people say XDNo, please, guys, we gotta stay INSIDE the box. Don’t want some moderator lock this thread up and lose another chance of getting my long-desired Announcer pack
Well, it’s just the voice from another game.XD
However, I think that the announcer is one of the reason why pvp seems more like a minigame than part of the world.
From what I’ve got, spvp is set on the mists. Players go there as some sort of pioneers, and are pitted against each other by spirits for amusement.
What if players were described as mercenaries fighting for groups trying to get hold of the mists?
This way, we might add an announcer that sounds more like a guy giving directions to the team.
I dont think we are pitted against each other for amusement…this is not Heroes of the Storm. But yes, players are the vanguards in the Mists, so it would seem
do you see the banners of Red Team and Blue Team? They have stories, you know
The current announcer, though, is a pirate. What doesn’t make sense is that people like US LISTEN TO HIM
WHY???
Announcer voice Pack is the only way to bring justice to this
With this voice, right?

Title says it all.
Every time I look at Guild Wars 2’s graphic
Never before had I seen such beautiful craftsmanship from a western brand. I just can’t help thinking. Our game would be so perfect if it is totally voiced in ???
Just. Tell. Me. You. Would. Do. It.
/nerdrage
I see. Why don’t you name dat certain MMO, though? It’s not like there are many MMOs in this world~XD
Let’s see here~
1. PvP rewards are better now. You earn gold in PvP. Exquisite PvP skins that were virtually inaccessible to casual players before (such as T1~T3 cultural armors) are now open for purchase with Glory and gold. So yeah, I’d say now’s a good time to start sinking your teeth into
2. League of Legends? Well, yes, that game is full of trolls. But I can say the game is well made PvP-wise and we could learn a few things from its designers
3. Not sure how long you have been away, but you should check the patch notes when you get back home. There are many new builds now so the game might feel a bit different. Power builds are coming back, but condition dps remain to be the mainstream
not sure what exactly is your question, but~
1. PvP population has increased A LOT after the Dec.10th patch
2. Class balance has been improved much since last year. Elementalist is currently the only class that is underpowered, with the all other 7 classes having their distinct PvP builds. Engineer has the most diversified PvP choices as of now
3. Yes, if it is casual PvP guilds you are looking for, go to Heart of the Mists and you will see plenty. At least, this is the case on Dragonbrand server

http://dota2.gamepedia.com/Announcer_responses
we could use more announcement!
~
Hmm.
My thoughts are more on implementing new voices for existing lines first, though. You know it would still stink even worse if dat Jon guy continues to do the kill count voices, right?
Besides, since ArenaNet is all about ART (even balancing eles) I doubt devs would just do a Dota-ripoff (I mean, c’mon those lines ARE from a Wacraft III map XDD)
I decide to get a hammer for mah warrior and name dat hammer Skyhammer just so people would feel trolled MOAR

Scarlet Briar
NOOoooooow imagine~~
“Your Lord is dead ahhhhhhohoahuhahahahahahahha~!”
“The Waterfall is yoooooursss ahhhuhuuhuhhhhhuhuhuahahahahaha~!”
“Your team is victoriiiahahahahahahahahahah-rous~”
I see
well~
considering situations like “your lord is under attack”
“you have lost the graveyard”
“you have lost the keep” affect the whole team that’s where the announcer comes in
as for your “DENIED!”. Hmm, rallying other players or scoring a kill happen a bit too often to have a PvP announcer voice there (you see, it is why they lowered the frequency of “Yer Lord is under addack~~~”). If you do it gets…really annoying XD
yes! more voice packs please!
caithe (kari wahlgren) sPvP announcer pack
logan thackery (troy baker) sPvP announcer packbut …. the types of pvp announces is kinda limited right?
somehow i can’t find a wiki list of the announcer dialog of guild wars 2 sPvP O_O
You know, I actually made the same thread several times in 2013, but never got much attention from the devs; hopefully in 2014 they would read this one
I have yet to understand your question, though? What do you mean by “limited pvp announces”?
I don’t like him. Might work in games like Skyrim (since it’s based around barbarian stories) but is simply too primitive for Guild Wars 2
I love Caithe’s voice. Would definitely buy on Gem Store if she can voice for PvP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kari_Wahlgren
Or, if the Announcer needs to be manly~~Logan Thackery

Most Elementalist staff skills have a 1,200 range. How can this be!?
It should be 200 instead! NERF IT NOW
And remember
Real Men Don’t Do Condi
How anybody that’s spent any amount of time in PvE can say that the PvP community is rude/toxic is completely beyond me and so bass ackwards I can’t even tell if it’s satire or not….
Lfg zerker only
Lfg lvl 80 only
Lfg experienced only
Lfg no noobs
Lfg no rangers
Lfg must show gear
Lfg heavies only
Lfg warriors and mesmers only
Lfg noobs will be kicked
Lfg 10,000+ APs only
Lfg ‘all of the above’ O.oThis is completely flawed logic tbh. I’ve done almost everything PvE has to offer, leveling and gearing 8 80s with a 9th slot for messing around, and I love it for the most part. There’s not really much that demands any skill though outside of dungeons, so I find myself doing those or FotM mostly. To pretend like PvE is just filled to the brim with stand-up, awesome, helpful people and that PvP is filled with a bunch of hateful trolls who threaten “to find where you live IRL and brutalize you” is completely rediculous and fallacious. I mean do you really believe what your saying. I’ve played since launch and have done more than my share of PvE content and am also rank40 in PvP and I’ve never seen so many elitist tools ever than trying to find a pug for a dungeon run. Apart from a bit of good natured trash talking, people in PvP are easy going BECAUSE they’re NOT playing for rewards which is the problem with the elitist/jerk part of the PvE community. People in PvP are there because they enjoy it, not because they’re grinding for some digital reward and fell the need to be rude for the sake of ‘maximum efficiency’ and shaving 2 mins off of a dungeon run. Granted there are occasional bad apples in PvP who take it way to serious and flame the chat or whatever, you will never be ostercized, ridiculed, or kicked from a group because of your profession/build/rank/etc. Most of these claims are completely unfounded and probably come from people who’ve never even qued a single match but hyperbole is always good for self justification I guess huh. I do agree though I’d be more likely to spend more time there if there were new/more game modes.
The voice of truth
Finally, something positive
Still a lot more to improve, though. I’m no fan of their Gem Store & Living Story priorities, but I gotta admit those new armors and cosmetics are ALL well made.
And yes, since you main charr female, I salute you!!
Time is Money.
Your time. Their money.
The developers’ got families to feed, you know, plus Living Story & Gem Store stuffs are making EVERYONE sooooo busy
Ok, so since I don’t wanna bunker I have to go burst (sort of)? That’s just stupid, I wanna play my good ol’ supporting elementalist who throws a bunch of heals, does area damage and can still survive. Too much to ask Arena Net?!?!?
Actually, AoE is ridiculously good if you use staff with 30 (IV/VII/XII) in Fire
As long as you abuse the 1,200 range and enemies cannot reach your position, you can live
Eles are kinda like Necromancer after the Dhummfire patch & before the DS patch——too much damage, and too little defense
#esports

4. In-match character selection screen
This is brilliant! I’m sold, adding it to my 5 now=D
okay, just want to jump right in and ask a question?
WHEN EXACTLY did ele start being weak? I main necromancer, guardian and warrior in PvP and ele is the class I almost never played since 2012 (the only few times I played a healer in Dec. 2012). What changed that made the once-utterly-OP D/D build disappear? Staff? S/D?
- Ride the Lightning CD incresed from 15s to 40s (20s if it hits the target, good luck with all the dodge spam). Also, its range got nerfed from 1550 to 1200
- Regen/Vigor duration nerfed to 6s from 10s on Soothing Disruption
- Fury/Swiftness duration halved when using Shocking Aura with Zephyr’s Boon (this is actually a bugfix, but still)
- Signet of Restoration nerfed and fixed (no longer procs multiple times when using dagger air autoattack or dodge rolling with evasive arcana, for example)
- Blast finishers removed from all Evasive Arcana spells, except the Earth one
- Evasive Arcana Cleansing Wave nerfed by 50% in PvP
- Bountiful Power nerfed to 1%/boon from 2%/boonAll in all, it wouldn’t even be so bad, if other classes, that are currently apex predators, didn’t get buffed like kitten at the same time.
Of course, you could still play the good old standard 0/20/0/20/30 S/D build, as it hasn’t been touched by too many nerfs, but it is kinda outperformed by everything…and melts to condis.
Gods….when they say they do not do big shaves…..I gotta wonder
Surprisingly, necromancer’s highly viable and diversified state pretty much compare to the pre-nerf eles. I’d think if we revert exactly all these overboard nerfs ele might just become viable again
okay, just want to jump right in and ask a question?

4. A new map of Sylvari theme
They actually showed a map like that during the “map creation stream”. I asked for that one in the past aswell since it looked really gorgeous:
http://www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/c/3283865 <- watch from 31:50
I can imagine that its relatively hard to design a map with a lot of leaves / vegetation while keeping it watchable at the same time tho.
Intriguing! Although, that one did not make it, did it? They talked about the traps and prisoner dilemma in that Sylvari proto-map, which is definitely something I want to see coming to real !!
ok than my 6 is number 4 cause it hardcounters fun
Your No.3 is Fun > Esports so Skyhammer stays!
For me they are:
1. The Ladder System
2. In-match character selection screen (quoted from ilcane. Thanks for mentioning, dude!)
3. More PvP Skins
4. A new map of Sylvari theme
5. More frequent balance patches (updates monthly or quicker)
Yours?
(edited by Ferik.3127)
you can do that already!, buy gifts, sell on TP, and then convert to gems.
Yes, we can do that. But it would so much better if we get to directly buy them using real Glory.
Check the price I proposed. It exactly displays the PvP investment!
I’m totally for this but before this we need an update on the Personal Stories~~which to my knowledge have been silent these days.. :*(
{V. What can this bring into Guild Wars 2?}
1. PvP Progression:
In the well-known game, League of Legends, players spend their points to unlock new characters—-which in a sense is to get new characters using the time spent playing the game. “Progression” in that game basically is the amount of characters available on the player’s account.
In Guild Wars 2, the idea to buy CSE using Glory would be quite the same—-we use our investment of time to trade for more available characters. The more you play, the more characters you get to choose from, which means:
-(1) More Class/Builds to choose from
-(2) More Skins to show off (because with so many armor skins in this game you DEFINITELY need more than 5 slots to put them all on!!!)
-(3) New playthroughs. I am a RPG player and I love them.
2. Player Choice
Again, the example of League. New characters can also be bought using Riot points, which is bought with real money. The same system already exists in Guild Wars 2 as we currently buy CSE on the Gem Store.
As it is now, the new glory vendor sells Custom Arena, also Gem Store item. If we can do the same thing with CSE~~wouldn’t that simply be a win-win? We players save the money we would spend to buy CSE on buying other stuffs, and ArenaNet gets a even bigger PvP playerbase as more players would pour into PvP knowing this is the best/most economic way if they like having new character slots.
3. A Game-wise Reward
One of ArenaNet’s new direction with sPvP in GW2 is to make PvP rewards player as the whole game, not just in the PvP section. In a sense, it means our investment in PvP rewards us on the entire game’s level. This is why the developers gave us Tome of Knowledge to level up, gold from wins, and Magic Find improvements in PvP, and why PvP skins in the future will carry over to PvE.
In coherence with this new direction, CSE, as you would think, is exactly a reward that carries over to the whole game. We play PvP, earn Glory, and use them to unlock slots so we can make more characters.
More character slots also ensures that the player is to stay in the game for much longer for the years to come, because a new character simply means a new game.
{VI. Method of Application}
So, to apply this change for the game, how are we going to do it? I suggest the following:
1. Keep Glory Alive
In comes naturally, that, if my suggestion is to work, Glory must remain in the game. One of my problems with ArenaNet’s plan to eliminate Glory and use gold as a global monetary in GW2 is that gold simply cannot measure PvP progression, while Glory (and Rank Points) can. The current Glory Vendor sells skins costing Glory+Gold and I would like the Kodan to stay that way. If you cancel Glory and make those PvP skins measured in pure Gold, those skins are simply going to lose their meaning of displaying a player’s PvP experience.
2. Sell Character Slot Expansion at 40,000 Glory
This price, as some of you already see, is the price of a Cultural T2 PvP skin. Why set it at 40,000, not 60,000, the price of T3 skins? Look, I would really like to set it at 60,000 if that number means something, plus I love cultural T3 especially human female ones but 40,000 Glory is a more meaningful number because it translates to a very specific amount of time.
Let’s suppose you play Hotjoin all day long. Also suppose Hotjoin games take 10 minutes to complete each. You win some, lose some, but overall your win rate in Hotjoin is 50% (many of you exceed this rate. Even myself have 760 wins out of 1,300). Without any booster, you accumulate Glory at the rate of (125×50%+200x50%) x6 =975 Glory per hour.
Now, I am certain an average player can score top stats a few times in an hour, and each scoring get you 10~15 Glory, so estimatedly we earn 1,000 Glory per hour.
It takes 40 hours for us to unlock a new character.
And 40 hours is exactly the average weekly working hour for a human.
That is, you play sPvP steadily for a week and you are rewarded a new character.
Fair deal, yeah?
{VII. Closing Words}
So, that’s it! Thank you for getting this far. Again, this is really just a long debate over a very simple matter, but I believe it is necessary to make it this long so I can persuade ArenaNet to implement this small feature. It would mean much for people who want MOAR characters and are willing invest time for it!
Happy 2014 and I hope to see you guys in the Mists
{I. Forewords}
Thank you for coming. This post will be very long but should be easy to digest, as it is based around a very simple idea. This idea, I believe, is easy to implement into the game, but a bit hard to convince ArenaNet into, as it might affect the company’s revenue by a small percentage. But trust me, with its implementation, our game will have more sustainability.
I would like discuss about allowing us to purchase Character Slot Expansion (abbreviated as “CSE” in the following) using Glory.
English is not my mother language, so correction of grammar is welcomed. Of course, your thoughts on this topic are more appreciated. Read on!
{II. The Author}
I am Ferik. I am a Guild Wars 2 player from Taiwan. Just another player, really. Just like you. I’ve been playing structured-PvP since 2012 launch. Every time I get a new set of PvP skins (either by ranking up of winning matches) I feel the need to make new characters so I can put the new armors on them. However, due to my contract (actually, OUR contract) with ArenaNet I cannot make more than 5 characters without spending my monthly salary.
I am a casual player so I am willing to spend dollars to compensate for not playing as much as others.I imposed some sort of volunteer subscription fee on myself and have been buying Gems monthly.
I spend my Gems on buying CSE and other new skins on the Gem Store. By now, I am only Rank 35 but already have 22 characters on my account. All but 2 are level 2 people with level-80-awesomeness. These soldiers of mine exist for one sole reason—to fight OTHER players in the Mists.
Thanks to my constant character expansions, the game always feel new for me, as I don’t have to delete level 80 characters to create new ones but honestly who would do that bro I always have new faces to play the same conquest mode with.
{III. New Characters and PvP}
So what exactly does keep making new characters mean?
Well, as a player, I am very satisfied with my result and I continue to play GW2 PvP ’til this day, all my hard earned Glory spent buying new skins, gold spent getting new dyes from Trading Post and real dollars used to make more new characters. These are the PvP progression for me, and I am happy with keeping this progression going.
But are all players willing to pay real money from time to time, especially when they already invest a large amount of time into playing the game?
When I browse these forums, I find many players unsatisfied with the GW2 PvP. One of the common complaints they voice is the lack of progression—-however much effort and time you invest into PvP, the game always feel the same. This lack of progression feels especially strong for devoted players because they put so much time and effort into the game, it is simply wrong to ask them to pay dollars to make new characters.
And how will GW2 PvP feel progressive and refreshing at all if all you could choose from are those 5 same characters since last year??
{IV. Let Us Buy Character Expansions—with our time, not our money!}
Currently, if we players want to make any more than 5 characters on our accounts, we need to purchase Character Slot Expansion, which adds 1 character slot to our account at the cost of 800 Gems (in translation, $10.00 USD). What I want ArenaNet to do is to make CSE purchasable through Glory, so that players have a choice to buy CSE using either real money or their investment of time.

1.Every build that has killed somebody is op.
2.Everyone else’s version of the Game would be better or more balanced.
3.Just because it’s a good spec means you can faceroll with it.
4. Anyone who plays a Warrior is Bad and should feel bad.
5. Conditions are op
6. Kittens… Kittens everywhere
1. Exactly why nobody cry about Guardians, despite the fact that they show up in ALL tPvP teams
2. It is so much easier to post on the forums saying something sucks than to come up with a solution. Welcome to Interweb

4. Guys, play a Sword-Sword/Longbow condi Warrior. It might change how you think
5. See #4
6. I love kittens, they are cute
From 2-300 to 5-600, awesome, i guess
.
It’s like when they said we doubled the pvp playerbase with our new rewards for pvp, yeah, that’s because u had like 200 playerbase, so doubling is easy and of course u don’t compare that number with the best numbers, when the hype was at it’s peak, because then the picture would be awfull.Exactly, it’s the little victories that count these days.
Advertisements, maybe? We need someone to post here everytime your channel is updated. Back in the days Helseth’s faithfuls posted every week when a new Rant of the Week goes up.
By all Six Gods, I kinda miss Helseth
What is this heresy?
It is SWAG that decides the outcome of a battle.XD
Now this is something new~
No Stunbreaker, No Stability, this is madness …
or is it ?…
You know, mate, you don’t need those. You just need to stun/Throw/Knock-away/Whatever-CC-that-feed-people-to-sand-worms BEFORE your opponent does.
This is why I almost always play a roamer. Even in tPvP, guys can be so fanatic about fighting in mid they hardly have the time to check DAT SINGLE ENGINEER who just stole their home point
I think blaming the game design is a bit hyperbole on this. Maybe persuade those new players that this is not their WvW park and they should~~I don’t know, read the chat more and zerg less?
1. The playerbase is really small. Thereis less than 1k people seriously playing pvp.
2. This is not true. The game is still hugely imbalanced, classes like the ele are unplayable in competitive PvP, and anet has clearly shown that they don’t understand about balance, reward vs skill, active play and instead make OP passive builds
3. No, the only thing you can see is many aoes and pets running around. The situation was already terrible and their 10th december response has been adding another spirit, which clearly shows PvE is the priority.
4. I agree here
1. At the very least, it is growing back. Not pretty, no, but we all have to start somewhere. Besides, I don’t think the developers would announce the plan for new Ladder system if the playerbase isn’t that big
Also, I assure you, this forum, especially this PvP section, is one of the most responsive in all the forums I browse everyday. Plus, I think it is the participation that matters. I am not seeing that many posts, yes, but I am seeing a high frequency of replying to each thread. There is always new topics to discuss (and new QQs to make. Yep~^_^). Kindly I invite you to ponder on how this is possible if the playerbase is that small, as you so stated.
2. I remember that a few months prior, Mesmer was the class seen widely in hotjoins but almost extinct in tPvP (which was even before the supporter-theme patch). People posted about it here, saying Mesmer is basically unplayable as a competitive class. Now, we almost do not see ANY of those threads.
I believe Elementalist is currently in the same situaton. After Dec.10th I am seeing more and more eles on server 001~020—i dare say it is a good sign. But yes, it is true that Elementalists almost never show up in tPvP nowadays, while Mesmers do. Again, I am a casual player so I am not sure whether this is simply that “Community has yet to adapt to the new meta” or there is something in the class design that is preventing Elementalist from entering competitve play “again”(Almost a year ago, D/D Ele was dominating everyone~! Such irony..).
3. Spirit Ranger needs another shave, I agree. I think the nerf, if any, has to be even bigger than what they have done to D/D Ele for the players to actually feel the effect. Even in the days when D/D Ele was boss, it at least required the player to actively control, not drool while his pets do just about all the CC and attacks.
I am unsure what relation between the Water Spirit and “PvE priority” you are referring to. Is it because these new healing skills are not used as often as the traditional ones in PvP?
4. I appreciate that you take the time to debate. The more debates and less anger we carry, the better improvement for the game. Uh, I am lecturing again, sorry ’bout that. :P
(edited by Ferik.3127)
I can definitely see Thief becoming the new bunker because then s/he would have technically infinite condition cleanse
Which is not so bad, you know. Perhaps people would then stop whining about OP-condi-spamming necros, despite that they have already been nerfed
Nononononono! You can’t do that!
Those tradition fanatics would just veto Skyhammer and we immediately lose 1 playable map…won’t want to see it.
~and my DEATHLY Necro
The Dec.10th made cultural armors available and I dumped my 60,000 glory to get this Sylvari T3 (You made the right choice, ANet! I salute you). Something with these Sylvari culturals~they give necromancers a vibrant touch unmatched by any other races. Also, the Gargoyle Scythe is what I have been using since last year.
Someone asked exactly the same thing last week. I believe it’s like many previous new PvP rewards. A few weeks before they go live on the Gem Store/Trading Posts, they are shown in the Locker just to give you a hint that something new is coming
Can’t wait! Scar thing looks beautiful on my necro
