I was kidding.
I literally LOL’d when I saw your first post. You do know you’ ve probably killed this thread!
…. That’s not a bad idea actually, they wouldn’t even need to select what to download, just an option to NOT download any area until you enter it.
That’s right Anet don’t listen to your customers. Just tend to tech issues……
The problem is the “Customers” who assume that what they want is what’s most important. Like it’s already been said, forums are where all the whingers go, there is nothing on these forums that will tell you what the majority of “Customers” think, just the squeaky wheels.
The Data Anet has on player numbers and habits would tell them where the problems are far more accurately that a few malcontents screaming on the forums.
There are several time gated Materials you need for ascended gear. They are Bolt of Damask, Deldrimor Steel, Elonian Leather and Spritwood Plank.
They each have a component that you can only craft once per day which keeps supply limited and the item profitable to craft sell.
You can make great money doing this especially if you are farming out as many of the mats as possible (opening bags on a L53 character gives you the most expensive mats in this process)
I move all bags to a level 53 character(the mats at that level are pretty valuable).
Don’t skip Pacman, so many people do but it’s loot Galore!
Woot – Hammer Guard FTW! (the CD on that pull cannot be correct)
Oh it’s like any game I’ve ever played. The next time I start a new MMO I am going to scramble to post “This game is dead” in the forums first but boy will I need to be quick to beat the others!
There are always whingers in every game.
Hmmm… Never played Rev but it looks like you are right! That’s crazy! Geez I thought us Guards had it bad.
Looks like it’s runes for you! Don’t worry about the difference between 25% and 33% It’s barely noticeable.
Superior Traveler and Speed runes will both give you 25% bonus to movement speed. Skills will give you 33%. So the runes are fast but skills are faster.
For pure speed Rune of Speed is better than Traveller as it gives you a bonus to Switness Duration as well, so you can run at 33% for longer.
Swiftness skills do stack in duration. So you can just spam the hell out of any skill that gives you swiftness when running.
Freaking Gorgeous and a perfect match for my Guard. Will be chasing the shield, focus, mace and staff.
Kind of in love actually.
Well done Anet!
Would be nice but, much like weapons, being able to add dye would require a complete rework of the items. With everything else they are scrambling to do, I highly doubt we will ever see this.
Players should be required to actually think like a sentient creature.
Yeah they should, that way it wouldn’t be necessary to explain to you that for an MMO newbie (the people we need to keep this game alive) a single word “unique” with absolutely nothing else drawing attention to it is going to cause problems and is an inadequate warning.
They should put a warning in for this. That being said in ANY MMO you should always read up on your gear path BEFORE buying anything.
Isn’t the word UNIQUE a warning?
Nope – It’s a word. “WARNING: You can only equip one of each unique item” that’s a warning.
And yeah the “Unique” was enough for me but then have played MMO’s since the very beginning so of course I twigged and I also Wiki everything before I do it.
But we want GW2 to be as noob friendly as possible and it’s fair enough to have a warning for this.
They should put a warning in for this. That being said in ANY MMO you should always read up on your gear path BEFORE buying anything.
100 new maps all with meta events.
1000 new skins
1 new weapon type per profession
10 new professions
10 new wvw mapsBut it has to be free because I don’t understand that game prices has hardly risen in the past 10 years but costs to make games have.
You left out that you need to be able to acquire all skins while playing solo and without actually having to get better at playing the game. I mean seriously, if you don’t make this stuff really easy to get how will any one ever know how 1337 I am???
1. LW S1 accessible via Fractals
2. New standard PVE maps *4
3. New SUPER hard event maps
4. New elite specs including Paladin for Guardian (Virtues become Auras that are Passive, MUCH Stronger and effect allies as well but you can only have 1 active at a time.
5. Some super cool legendary armor that you don’t need at all and is difficult to get so I can listen to people whinge about it.
And of course.
6. The extinction of the stinking Charr Race and the restoration of Ascalon to it’s rightful owners.
OK. People in this game need to get their head around two simple facts:
1. No one cares what your character looks like except you.
2. Just because someone else has it does not make yours worse.
i kept dying and dying and dying to the mobs . then i realised even with my legendary weapon and full ascended gear its pointless . HoT is against solo players , it was made that way .
It’s a game of skill not a game of gear!
..but once i learned to kill 1 monster safely..i started to attack 2..then 3..and so one
im getting better and better slowly..i even try making skill points alone..its often failing…but after winning in the 20th time it just feel great! like “omg i did it!”
THIS is how you play an MMO. It’s like fishing, most people will focus on their equipment and they will never, ever, ever compete with the people who focus on their technique.
The vast majority of GW2 content is just a faceroll to win, it’s not terribly challenging at all. I do not understand why players insist that ALL content be that easy!
I’m not trying to be offensive and this is a genuine question OP… Why do you play GW2??
I mean, WHY do you want Legendary armor? No one over the age of 16 gives a RATS what your character looks like so if you want legandary Armor or Weapons to look cool, there is absolutely no point.
The only REAL reason to get a legendary (or any achievment or goal in a game) is to COMPLETE the legendary. I am about to finish luminescent armor with my girlfriend, I have no intention of ever wearing it, I just like doing the collection.
Same with legendary (going to craft Sunrise I think), I want to craft it, I want to do the farming and the legendary journey. And yes I will use this skin but it’s getting it that interests me, not having it.
After that I will absolutely be going after legendary armor, I hope it’s bloody hard and takes me a while, because then when I get it, I’ll have a big ole smile on my face.
To me saying a goal in a game that has SO many different goals you can work towards, is too hard totally defeats the point of playing!
GW2 is a great quality game that quite rightly has a good core of loyal players, however if you believe that no mistakes have been made since launch and that every decision related to the game has been the right one, then you need to get your head out of the sand.
Who is saying that there is no problems? No one here. What they ARE saying is the massive assumptions you made in your OP (and even in your title) are most likely wrong.
Are we really boiling this down to price?? Come on! BOTH GW1 and 2 are cheap as chips! I spend more on condiments each year than I do guildwars! I mean what’s total cost? GW1 maybe $200, About $130 for GW2. All up that’s $330(ish) for more than TEN years worth of entertainment. It’s absolute peanuts!
I love them both and really feel GW2 is MORE than a worthy successor to the mighty Guild Wars!
Guild Wars had it’s problems too, people just put on the rose coloured glasses that’s all.
What would a legendary rune or sigil actually do?
Doubles wing size.
Now that most people seem to have accepted the mathematical facts… Let’s try the psychological ones (Well as factual as you can ever get with psychology).
There is a HUGE number of people who believe they have one these so called “Outlier” accounts, have a look at how often these threads come up and how many people chime in with confirmation from their own point of view!
They think this because they overestimate other players success and underestimate the number of ‘spins’ players with lots of successes have taken.
And once they think they have a poor chance of success, they simply give up on chasing it or chase it at a much, much slower rate than those that have had some success early on.
Best is impossible to answer they all work totally differently and the actual balance between classes is constantly changing.
I play a guardian because I like their battle mobility, decent DPS, excellent party support and active defenses. The downside to guardian is they can need a lot of gear and strugglr with speed buffing. Playing Guard well means picking the right weapon for the job. Although 99% of the time that means hammer or greatsword I still always carry a mace, staff, shield focus, scepter and torch because it’s awesome to have the options when you want the extra damage / survivability.
I also always carry two sets of armor. Both with Zerker but different runes(speed and strength) so for general PVE speed isn’t an issue.
That being said, while it took a bit of work to put all that gear together, there is pretty much nothing I can’t handle
(edited by FlashAhAhh.4307)
The only problem i have with any of the legendary greatswords is the simple fact that they are as flat as a pizza spoon.
The width of the blade needed to be drawn out more to be a more 3-Dimension weapon.
This, I love the sunrise effects but the shape of the blade could have been much better.
Take a look at ebonblade and cobalt. They both have thicker blades that are narrow(you know, like a sword) and actually have some dimension to them.
There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: FlashAhAhh.4307
I’m relatively new to these parts and have no intention of trying to brush off anyone’s particular perspective of the game. As a new(ish) player I would simply like to submit my personal experience.
I quite happily consider myself a casual player, but this doesn’t mean I don’t invest a lot of time into the game. When I say casual I mean to say that I enjoy good stories, exciting encounters and the ability to hop in and out of them with ease.
I came to GW2 from leading a guild in Elder Scrolls Online. I was frustrated by the content (or lack thereof) and the stupid restrictions it took to get my guildies together to play through any particular piece of content. None of these problems exists for us in GW2 (barring the obvious level requirements and other basic and expected gates).
With a couple button clicks I can have my people grouped up and we’re fighting a world boss. Then we can opt to go run through one of the end game zones like the Silverwastes or venture into HoT. After that we might knock out a fractal or two and finish up with some quick pvp matches.
These are all experiences I would definitely classify as casual friendly. They don’t require extensive prep time or gear swaps or whatever and for the most part are easy to jump in and out of. That doesn’t mean there aren’t challenges in the game, but when did casual friendly have to mean easily achieved?
What I have loved about GW2 since migrating over is that no matter your predilection there is a path for you to achieve your aims. If you don’t want to grind mats for something, just play the game as usual and save up for it. If don’t want to grind OR spend a lot of gold you can continue to play as you like and eventually you will have what you want/need. These paths in no way require the same exact time to complete, some are faster than others but no matter how you want to play there is a way to achieve your goals.
If all goals were easy, nothing would be worth doing. I feel like Anet has done a very good job of providing meaningful progression no matter how much time you put in. If you only complete the dailies each day you have achieved something. If you only spend time gathering mats to craft ascended materials, again, you have achieved something. These smaller goals tend to dovetail into a greater goal such as crafting ascended gear, finishing up a dungeon path, or getting your next achievement chest that naturally take a longer period of time. For the people who would rather throw gold at the hurdle instead, there are usually options on that front as well.
While I can certainly understand how some might feel this game isn’t casual friendly, in my grumpy, bad mystic forge days I know I have certainly muttered it. I don’t think that to be the case and I would welcome anyone who feels differently to give me a shout in the game and I will happily hear you out and perhaps we can find a way to make the game fun for you again.
The achievement is called “The be all & the End all”…
Just sayin’
How about…
In new maps where you learn the mastery line, nights are really dark until you get the mastery line. After that mobs start showing up in the infrared. Further mastery progression gives you the ability to see plants at night as a light green glow and harvestable nodes as brighter green for plants and dull red for metals. Maybe the next mastery line progression shows you mobs that have the ability to become invisible day or night.
Maybe the vendors can sell torches you can carry to light the area around you at night. Torches that you can drop when you need to fight and pick up again.
To both you and the OP – This is a freaking AWESOME idea and you both deserve a cheer.
I would love to see this idea developed. We can go underground for this and the BEST part would be that we could bring back the Dwarves and relate the mastery to what they have been learning since we last saw them.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Anet discovered after 2 more years that this is actually a thing. They have discovered some weird stuff in matchmaking after 3 years so this might take some more time…
In the meantime I will enjoy my non-random loot, because I know I will get the same s*** I was getting since launch.
Every account has the exact same chance on RNG.
My guildmate and another friend have both received over 4 precursors each since launch. I have been playing since beta and I’m st over 7000 now and never got one
Every account has the exact same chance on RNG.
There isn’t such thing is some accounts getting stuck lucky. Yes there’s an RNG, yes it’s random and there are streaks and outliers and an even aggregate distribution.

Can you confirm whether it is an RNG that uses some sort of value from the user’s account or whether it is purely random/session based? I have a friend who swears that smack-talking an anet dev during a beta weekend pvp match doomed his account to poor rng for life.
Absolutely it does not use anything to do with a user.
Here’s the premise. RNG is evenly distributed on aggregate. On an individual level this means that while almost everyone falls into a reasonable range in the middle, there are outliers on each side of the distribution that are either highly rewarded or not rewarded at all. These individuals become sample cases and spotlights for experiences that maybe shouldn’t exist.
Ironically, the randomness of the system is significantly contributes to these posts continually popping up.
You should say it as plainly as possible so there is no more confusion.. something along the lines of..
“Every account has the exact same chance on RNG. Some accounts may get better ‘rolls’ than others but that is because of probability and occurs because the system IS in fact, completely random.”
I feel you OP but a huge part of playing a guard well is picking the right weapon for the situation. There is more to hammer guarding than just pressing 1 ps!
No. I won’t be surprised. I log on to gw1 once a month to collect birthday presents and keep my status as guild leader but the game has lost its charm. I go out in the maps and they feel dead. No other players. No events. No NPCs running up to speak to me. No map chatter. Just the mobs walking their endless routes or endlessly circling around their spawn point.
What’s worse is how the maps funnel you along from place to place. High walls with narrow corridors keep you on the pathway from here to there. And heaven forbid a stick be in the way. You can’t even step over it.
Fighting is standing in one spot and exchanging hits, while your monk keeps you alive. No stafing as stafing breaks your attack animation and dodging isn’t in game. It feels incredibly static and counterintuitive now to stand there without moving, hitting the target while it hits you and your monk heals and buffs.
So thanks, but no thanks. For me that’s a game that has had its day.
Well said. Guild Wars was amazing and I had a blast playing it. I will always remember it as one of my favourite games ever. But the combat system in GW2 leaves it for dead.
I hear you – I love these pants! I run them with The primevil chest (another awesome Gem store Armor skin… Please ANet keeping making these!) And it looks fantastic.
Psst… don’t listen to the fans here. It is easy to search for honest unbiased comments on the web about Nerf War 2, I mean Guild War 2.
This game is for hardcore gamers only. To fully enjoy the game, you’ll need full ascended gears and legendaries. If you are prepared to grind for at least 5-8 hours every day and for one to two years , this game is for you.
My nine year old plays…. for a couple of hours a week…. no problems.
Calling this game difficult is insane.
It’s the most grindy game I’ ever played.
Then you haven’t played many games at ALL!!! In other games farming gear is ALL you do and you never, ever finish.
Here is why GW2 is the LEAST grindy game I’ve ever played.
1. Top gear doesn’t change, once you have top tier, it will ALWAYS be top tier.
2. You can play 99% of the highest level content very competently with the THIRD highest tier of gear.
3. Ascended gear is actually pretty easy to get but is designed that it CANNOT just be bought. You have to play the game to earn it and it takes a little time BUT while you are farming it you can still play with 99% effectiveness in exotic gear.
You can absolutely buy ascended gear. Buy gems, convert to gold, buy mats, level crafting, craft ascended.
You need the recipes which cost Laurels and Karma.

Every event is it’s own individual event. There is no such thing as “lucky” there is just probability. And probability says that some accounts will get more than others because that’s what random means.
The higher the odds of succeeding in RNG the more tries you would need to make to approach actual average of the RNG. In the case of Precursor and other extremely low chances, when you have lots of people who have made relatively few attempts at the RNG (compared to the chance of success) there IS going to be a huge variance in the success rate.
There is nothing on your account that makes is any less “Lucky” than his.
NO! The point is that you can farm skins if you want to vs the traditional Farm gear because you can’t play if you don’t.
If I go back to any other MMO I’ve played right now there is no way I would be able to compete in any way despite being top tier when I left.
In GW2 you just step straight back in. This game can be mostly played with the THIRD highest level of gear, and that won’t change. It’s kitten brilliant. There is grind at the top but it’s totally optional and there is zero urgency to get it. Unless you create that urgency yourself.
The skins are just if you want to, out side of that….
There’s more to it than skins. There are achievements, exploring, challenges like Jump Puzzles and mini dungeons. Add to that masteries, legendries (yes more skins but also with the stat change bonus) etc etc.
Who hits harder is a tricky question because it’s totally situational and you need to look at wether you are looking at party DPS (where you might be making a huge difference) or personal DPS.
It comes down to what you want to play and how you want to play it. I play guardian so will explain a little about Guardian and GS.
GS is an awesome guardian weapon that excels in general PVE. It gives you a solid auto attack and the skill #2 whirling wrath is fantastic and allows mobility while you set it off. This skill also fires bolts so to max DPS from it stand INSIDE the enemies red circle for wicked damage against a single target.
There are 2 main build we Guards use in respect of surivability being the use of Altruistic Healing Or Monks focus(meditation build). Meditation builds are simply put, superiour to AH builds for a lot of reasons I won’t go into BUT AH builds are fantastic to learn with especially if you favour the great sword.
Basically you take the “Empowering Might” Trait that gives you and Allies might everytime you land a critical hit and you Also take “Altruistic Healing” which gives you a small heal each time you give an ally a boon. This means every time you crit you get heals without even thinking about it.
The huge downside to AH builds is you need a party around you to get those heals so it’s not great for Soloing champs or anything like that. The other massive downside is that it’s a “Selfish” build, in that you are trading a lot of boons you could be giving your allies (Meditation Guards spam Fury all over the shop) for healing you are giving yourself.
As you play guardian you will eventually move to a meditation build that is better, but harder to manage. But long story short an AH GS Guard build is a great way to learn the game, in most general PVE fights you can literally roll your face on the keyboard and win.
When they put “x days left” that is for specific limited time items like the golden wings, they do it to create urgency.
All the other items just come and go occasionally. The eyes had been on the store for a long time.
Sorry you missed out, they will be back though…. most likely.

I just fixed mine.
Try putting this in your launcher’s target line. -assetsrv drwkwiejruot6.cloudfront.net
So example would be: Right click your launcher > Properties > Shortcuts tab > Target: “D:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv drwkwiejruot6.cloudfront.net
then start the launcher and hopefully this works out for you.
Worked – Thankyou Sir!
You haven’t played a game unless you’ve played it permadeath, no trading and dice rolls to decide all build decisions!
In my DDO guild we played it like this once a week and it was awesome fun. Your build was completely randomised, you could only use gear we found as a party(you were allowed to share loot within the party) and death for any reason except dc was permenant.
Probably the best fun I’ve had in an MMO, clearing a beginners dungeon you had speed run 100+ times became a major achievement.
If anyone wants to start a permadeath guild, then I’m in!
There was an update today so I’m guessing it has been removed and the wiki not yet updated.
Yep – It’s not allowed and can end in a ban, although I personally think that is unlikely but would never risk my account like that.
I just bind click to the mouse wheel Totally legal and you can smash those bags open!
The dumbest idea I have ever heard… it’s also brilliant.
Anet… please make this happen.
Great idea will never happen. People screamed about how it was Anets fault if they compacted bags accidentally let alone salvage the whole bag!!
I’d be happy enough if they just gave an option to remove the salvage warning for rares. Would make salvaging waaaaay quicker.
If you’ve already bought heaps to increase the price and are trying to start a run then I salute you!
