I’m sure it’s been mentioned a lot of times (don’t have the time to read 10 pages), but:
- Holiday treats bags (Wintersday and Halloween)
- Similarly: Boxes of dusty winter clothes, Ugly Wool sweaters, Ugly wool hats and that socks thing
- I still got tons of frostbitten toolboxes (useful for my new toons)
- Baubles (and maybe Bauble Bubbles, though I’m not sure I’d ever get 250 of them)
- Doubloons
- Vision crystals
- Black lion chest stuff would be appreciated (boosts, trading post express, bank access express, merchant express, repair kits, teleport to a friend)
- Icy Runestones
- Mystic clovers
- Unidentified dyes
- Zephyrite lockpicks and Bandit skeleton keys
- Mystic Forge stones
- Black lion kits and keys (I open a bunch at a time)
- Food that serves as a crafting material (though I think that’s unlikely)

The thing is, the securities foresaw the release of GW2 for every year since the announcement that ArenaNet was working on a new game. It took, what? 5 years? For 5 years, some players got excited every year because revenue from ArenaNet was supposed to increase on such-and-such quarter. Other players, after being burned once or twice, just said “Meh. Tell me when we have a definite release date.”

Well, there are 2 big periods sales-wise: pre-summer vacations and pre-christmas. So I’d be pretty surprised to see it coming in the middle of summer. Anyway, we’ll know for sure when they announce the date!

Well, it took 2 years between the first demo and the release… but they had to do a whole game, from starting zones to end zones, with races and profession mechanics. Now, they are revamping the professions and adding a new one, so they have to be careful with the balance. Still, I don’t think we’ll have to wait 2 years before the release.

The truth is, I’ve spent more on GW2 than if it had been subscription-based. And a subscription will not necessarily help with more frequent releases. That money could be used for a host of things, including Living Story updates, paying for the upkeep of servers and stuff, etc. The best way to get more updates more often is to ask for them, politely, over here and play the game. Buy gems, convert them to gold if there’s nothing you want in the gem store (really? Not even an additional crafting profession slot on your toon?).

I want it for my birthday!!! (Which is, conveniently, GW1’s 10th birthday.)
With so many references to GW1, it’d be sooooo cool.
And I forgot one way to level your character: Play some WvW with it.
Yup, you may want to guest in other servers until you find one with a better atmosphere. I’ve never encountered AP elitism on SBI (although I don’t really care, so that might affect my experience) and the only time we talk about AP in my guild is when someone says “Hey, I got my AP chest!”. We congratulate them and continue doing our stuff.
I don’t have a legendary, heck most people I know don’t have one. I can do my daily in 30 minutes… if the list is an easy one and I’m on a WvW zerg, capping stuff and killing enemies. For example, I got my monthly WvW killer in an hour when I went to EB for reset last Friday. I hadn’t even realized it was monthly reset day! However, outside of big killing zergs, getting my dailies takes a bit more time.
With a character at 100% exploration, I know of a few good spots for some dailies: wurms are easy to dodge, the Thermanauva reactor has lots of species and lots of NPCs to revive, Soren Draa has a lot of ambient creatures, Queensdale train is good for group events and champions, etc. If you have an aquatic killer and a (region) killer, you can combine it by killing underwater creatures in that region.
You probably missed the events. You didn’t say what map you are on so I will use Queensdale as an example.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Queensdale
Bandits have constructed a roadblock to stop Shaemoor traffic (2)
Catch rabbits and return them to Arlo (2)
Drive the bandits away from the windmill (2)
Kill the giant wurm tearing up Jeb’s field (2)
Protect the hay bales from bandits (2)
Prove you know a lot about Destiny’s Edge (2)
Defeat the Lady in White (3)
Drive the harpy flock from the dam (3)
Prevent the bandits from blowing up the water pipes (3)
Failure: Defend workers repairing the pumping station (3)
Protect Shaemoor’s drinking water from bandits (3)
Failure: Bring blobs of toxin to Apprentice Jameson (3)
<snip>Each map has it’s own set of events. Some run by themselves. Some are started by players. If an NPC runs up to you and speaks to you they probably have an event for you. Many NPCs with the option to talk to (rather than just greet) have an event they can give at various times during the day. So look for NPCs that try to flag you down, have orange circles over their heads, orange circles on the map and contested waypoints.
Heck, I’ve been playing since release and I haven’t played all those events. They weren’t on when I was in their area. However, I managed to get a toon to level 70 and she’s got only 35% of the world map explored. My main got to level 80 way before he entered Orr.
As everyone said, there are 5 maps that are level 1-15 and getting them all to 100%, even while avoiding to do anything else that gives XP will bring you well over level 15 (heck, just doing a second map will get you close to 20, I bet). For free levels, you can also just explore all 5 racial cities plus Lion’s Arch to 100%. I think it gives about 2-3 levels.
For the rest, I’ll just refer you to this post I made a few minutes ago (since I’m too lazy to basically copy it here): https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/Having-trouble-leveling/3991890
This makes no sense.
How do those other characters know information just because someone else learned of it?
I don’t think anyone’s asking from an immersion viewpoint. They’re asking from a gameplay veiewpoint.
Laziness viewpoint.
You’re right. This terrible, welfare-gamer generation!
In fact, running near waypoints to unlock them is awfully lazy, too. ArenaNet should implement a lengthy, detailed quest chain that needs to be accomplished for every single waypoint in which your character has to attend one of the Asura Colleges, develop plans for a gate, gather the materials to build it, engage in research and development, and then finally construct the gate.
That’d show this lazy generation how a game should be!
Sweety, I’m playing PC-games since 1994, don’t exagerate. I think I explained why I would like that idea. As for the immersive point – why shouldn’t the characters of my account be able to leave notes about the whereabouts of waypoints if they share an entire bank?
Those notes (if you want to play immersion part) would only show those waypoints grayed out so you can get to them yourselves. Because you know they’re there from notes.
Ooh, I like that! I want to get the XP from unlocking the waypoints, but being able to see where they are would make it easier on my lower level alts when I decide whether to do an event/heart or explore just enough to get the closest waypoint.
Yup, my problem was the reverse: I leveled so quickly that a lot of zone completion rewards were under-leveled armor or weapons! I can’t conceive of a person literally not being able to find content to level up in the game. However, I can imagine not wanting to bother starting a new zones just to get the few levels you need to continue doing what you wanted, whether it is finishing a personal story step or completing a zone.
Here’s how you get XP:
- Complete Hearts
- Find POI
- View Vistas
- Complete Skill Challenges
- Unlock WayPoints
- Rez people
- Kill stuff
- Complete events
- Gather resources (ore, wood, etc.)
- Craft
- Complete your personal story steps
- Do dungeons
- Do your daily/monthly
- Complete zones (Hearts, POI, Skill Challenges, Waypoints, Vistas). Cities count as zones so they’re useful for the times you just need half a level so you can get on. Waypointing within a city is free, so that makes it even faster.
As others have said, as long as the zone is not a higher level than you, you can get levels there. You’re level 42 and stuck? No problem, go do a 1-15 zone and you’ll continue leveling (although maybe a bit slower, because rewards are based on the heart/zone level and not your level).

I usually keep rare weapons that drop for me and put them through the mystic forge. You could argue that I’m losing the revenue of selling said weapons, but I don’t look at values on the TP for those, so I’m not losing much to my mind. You can’t miss what you’ve never had, as they say. If they turn to exotics, I keep those also and throw them in the mystic forge when I’ve got 4. I’m focusing on a few types of weapon, since I haven’t decided on a specific precursor. I figure that if I change my mind on which legendary I want, I can always sell the precursor and keep the money to buy the precursor I want.
Yup, I’ve had the monthly issue (had 4/2 completed pre-update, which became 4/4 post-update, without an extra chest). I figured it was the price of playing as much as I do (and thus get more stuff through normal playing than people who just do the minimum). If ever we can get an extra chest before the end of the month, I’ll be happy about it, but I don’t think it’s worth raising a stink over it. (So you can guess what I think of the people raging about the daily/dungeon/time-gated material crafting bug.)
Actually, I would have thought that more people would have complained about the monthly thing than the daily thing. After all, it is 10 laurels and 50s.
We darn well better get some compensation. I have lost 7 days worth of laurals, and 7 days worth of Charged Quartz. The ability to make all of the time gated material I am storing up on my account for my various 80s. This is extremely punishing to me. They really need to do something to compensate those of us effected.
Sure, they’ll refund you 7 days worth of the monthly fee. For the rest, well… I’m sure we’ve all heard that chestnut about flies, honey and vinegar. If someone hasn’t, they should go look it up.
Heavy bags of whatever sort. Orr farming gives a lot of them. Bonus: the T5 mats that drop from there can be sold to TP and are fetching higher prices than before because T6 is spiking hard.
Add me to the crowd. Some of my toons haven’t received a gift, my main especially. However, some have. Ironically, my least played toon got its gift already.
Actually, I don’t mind the Heroic Edition per se. The improved Digital Deluxe, though? Not very happy about it (not angry and resentful, just disappointed). Early supporters of special editions should have some exclusives. Current Digital Deluxe buyers get all the stuff early buyers got, plus bonus stuff.
Well, the Heroic Edition offers less stuff than the Deluxe one, not sure I understand that argument. However, I’d very much appreciate it if existing CE and DE owners could get the Mithril box, XP boosters and Legacy Armor (which better be different from HoM armor). For free.
According to Reddit the legacy armor is a choice of the three original armor sets you could buy on the gem store (profane, krytan or primeval).
One question here… why is it that software gets such a different standard than physical goods? I mean, if you buy a cell phone yesterday, and tomorrow the store starts including a free SD card with every cell phone, nobody expects them to go trough their records to give a free SD to everyone that bought a cell phone in the last year, yet lots of people do expect it if new items are added to a game a year after release (and I’m not talking about here, I’ve seen it on LOTS of games that do something like this)
Well, on my end, it’s ArenaNet-specific. For years, in Guild Wars 1, they refused to offer features from Prophecies’ CE (or other CEs) because they were “rewards for our early supporters”. As an early buyer of a CE/Digital Deluxe Edition, I feel like my early support is not rewarded at the same level as brand new buyers.
Yes, my main toon has an 18-slot box, but my lower-level alts could all use one, and some XP boosters too.
ETA: I’m not much of a nice-skin addict, so I care much less about the legacy armors, but I don’t discount them entirely.

I’ve been using gw2stuff.com and guildwarstemple.com for dragon/bonus chest event timers and they both seem screwy tonight. They are reporting some events in warm up that are not warming up at all.
For example, on Kaineng, on gw2stuff, at 22:26 EST, it says Gloem Mark II is warming up and in “Help gather kelp” stage. In contrast, 5 minutes later, the wiki says that the warming up event is up (and it is accurate).
Same server, same time, on guildwarstemple.com, it says Shadow Behemoth is warming up. I’m there and that’s totally not the case.
Maybe it’s an issue with the individual tools, maybe there’s a problem with the API. I just want the information out there.
Charge me monthly, or for expansions, or through the black lion market because the economy sucks.. but not 2 out of the 3.
Well, there’s no monthly charge and no expansions so far. So it’s 1 out of 3 at the moment if you use the black lion market. If there is an expansion, you can choose if you want to buy it and continue to use the BLTC to make it 2/3. You could decide not to use the BLTC anymore or to not buy the expansion and remain at 1/3. No one’s twisting your arm.
Hey ColdBlade!
Unfortunately, there are quite a few circumstances that can affect the performance of the BLTC window. Sometimes, it is necessary for us to have you submit a ticket with all of your system’s specs and firewall info.
However, a lot of issues can be fixed by clearing your cache. I realize that you said you’ve deleted your cache. However, I’d like you to try again following the below steps. To do this, simply exit out of Guild Wars 2 and follow these steps:
1. Click the Windows start button.
2. Search for temp
3. Find any gw2cache folders and delete them.
Relaunch the game.I hope this fixes it for you, but if it doesn’t, please submit a ticket with the info I mentioned. Again, sorry that you’re having issues.
I have a lot of temp folders for different programs, but couldn’t find the gw2cache folder. I finally unearthed it from the Users/[UserName]/AppData/Local/Temp folder. Do note that “AppData” is a hidden folder.
The information that Martin provided after the last quarterly earnings call about this topic hasn’t changed.
Our primary focus as a company is making the core game experience as amazing as possible, through new features, content, and the exciting changes and additions to the world through our Living World releases.
Thanks, Regina. Me thinks the Community Relations and/or Marketing teams should have a standing “Damage control” meeting for every quarterly earnings call, with pre-made templates for statements that are likely to be misinterpreted. For example, I can predict that, 3 months from now, the quarterly call will mention a GW2 expansion (with as much or more details as this time). I can predict that the same speculation will run in the forums. Why not preemptively have some materials ready for that occasion?
It is really amazing how people manage to get so much information out of one quote even if people get completely different and contradictory information.
Exactly. Doesn’t anyone remember how long NCSoft said that GW2 was coming within the next quarter, 6 months, “before the end of the year”? As long as it doesn’t come from the “horse’s mouth” as it were (and I mean the people developing GW2 content, so ArenaNet), I would dismiss it as very optimistic thinking.
Anyone wants to bet on how long before we get “an expansion is/is not in the works” and if it is, it will release “when it’s ready”?
My personal bet is a short answer before the end of the day and a full explanation before Wednesday (ArenaNet time, as usual).
I like the bounty bosses idea. From what I’ve seen in both of my guild’s (guilds I’m a member of, not an officer or leader) experience, I’d keep the “easier” bosses in the lower tiers (Poobadoo would a great candidate for Tier 1) and the hardest for Tier 3 (Yanonka, hidden inside a suspicious rat, I’m looking at you!). That way, I’d keep the time limit lower for Tier 1 bounty mission and up it for the higher levels.
I have no problems in keeping the 18 bosses in (that would mean groups of 6 or so and may mean rebalancing for some bosses so they fit within their group).
For the record, here’s what makes a boss “easy”: Easier to find, Easier to kill without specialized tactics or the need to bring specialized builds/professions using specialized skills.
One of my guild has around 100 members, the second one a bit over half of that. Each can field about 10 members (if we’re lucky) for a weekend bounty, at a time when both North American and European can reasonably be expected to be awake and (if RL doesn’t intervene) playing. In the last few weeks, we’ve too often failed the bounties, even at Tier 1 (heck, we failed some trainings too because we were looking for Yanonka)
The first few weeks, there were 15-20 of us each week. We could pre-scout most of the bosses and succeed at the bounty. You (the general you) might think that pre-scouting is the easy and lazy way of doing the bounties, but the truth is that it does show guild team spirit and organization. Don’t forget, you might be slowly following a boss for an hour until everyone’s done scouting and end up leaving it because it’s not on the kill list in the end. It is a thankless job, sometimes frustrating, but no more than trying to find an elusive boss at the drop of a hat.
The truth is that we don’t have other guild missions unlocked just yet (Economy was researched only to level 4, for example, and we didn’t have much influence to spare since we had to rebuild after the great server migration preceding the pay-for-move limit date). Both guilds were in an alliance in GW1, so we’re considering making the guild missions a joint effort. By the way, coordinating such efforts between small-medium sized guilds would be much facilitated if we had alliance chats. As it is, we rely on the members who are in both guilds to pass the message and ask if anyone’s interested (in exchange for a guest status in the other guild).
Wintersday is just around the corner, and I’d like to advocate for DR-free seasonal dungeons. Ascent to Madness (Mad King’s dungeon) had only one path, was quickly done (about 15 minutes) and some of the drops were limited-time-only drops. I was pretty discouraged to find that the rewards from the chest went quickly from pretty good to trash can worthy.
When a dungeon presents those characteristics (limited-time, one path, quickly done), it would be more interesting to have them have no DR or have DR on dungeon completion rewards but not on chest rewards.
Any other opinions out there?
Yes! I’d love to have a way of telling which zones are complete or not. Not sure that showing XX% completed for any zone would be useful, but completed zones would help me focus my efforts better.
Same on the Stormbluff server. It was so bad, I resolved not to go back to that zone until I see update notes saying events/hearts/etc. are debugged. I understand some quests can get stuck, but this zone had so much bugged content it was un-fun to play.
I was able to drink the ale from the kegs, but not rouse the patrons.
When I tried going there, the grawls would respawn so fast I didn’t have the time to progress far enough in the cavern to get the skill point. Especially when battling the veteran grawl, which, like most veteran enemies, take more time than a regular “enemy” to die, I would get respawns at my back and get killed from overaggro (even though I didn’t move back into those mobs!). I finally got it when a group pulled the veteran into the skill point alcove, away from the rest of the grawls.
@SwiftChocobo I actually checked that comic (and you should too!) and it does make some sense to me to use 4 common words as a (long) password instead of a (short) traditional password. If you want to see what other people are saying about the strip, you can also check the forums: http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=73384
xkcd fans are usually pretty bright and do speak up when something like this makes sense (or not).
