I’m having the same issue. I played earlier today just fine (and i’ve never had this problem before either). I came back a few minutes ago and now have this issue. I tried the “/clientport 80” thing and it did nothing as well.

EDIT: Right after I posted this, I tried logging in and it worked…so I dunno if they fixed it or what, but i’m happy haha

What about stats on the gear / weapons? Is it really just a preference thing, or is there a particular set of stats I should shoot for?

Hey guys, just got back from overseas and haven’t played my thief since November. I really only used him for WvW, but am interested in doing dungeons and higher level fractals, problem is, I currently only have a full zerker set, and full carrion set. I’m interested to see what builds are out there that work in FoTM. I’m not really sure on the weapon setups, gear, or build anymore.

Any builds / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’m open to most suggestions (Not terribly interested in going back to condition damage, but would still consider it)

Fresh Air build will yield maximum burst and dps for Elementalists now (it’s what I switched from D/D). It doesn’t have the 5 sec internal cooldown as it is advertised and you can chain the free lightning strike (traited) infinitely every time you crit and switch to Air attunement. It is quite devastating against players and PvE if you have a high crit rate + high crit damage and fast fingers.

I have seen multiple posts about x/10/x/30/30 or x/30/x/10/30 so fourth and so on. I’ve been playing a might/fury stacking (Fury on blast finisher in fire field) 30/x/x/10/30 build, and was just wondering if anyone else has tested it out and has some comments.

Also, I haven’t tested out the x/30/x/10/30 Fresh Air build simply because I’m unsure of the rotation and the importance of fresh air, so if anyone can give some insight to that, it would be great.

Do people really enjoy playing on a stacked timezone that much? I remember when SOR was like that in T2 for a week or two after SBI had imploded and TC, while doing their best, were totally outnumbered. SOR pretty much had all 4 maps capped and there were a swarm of us just wasting time sitting outside TC’s spawn. It was the most kitten shameful and boring half hour I’ve spent in GW2 and I logged in disgust and didn’t go back to WvW until SOR finally moved to T1.

I can’t imagine people actually paying gold to transfer into such a situation and continuing to come out for weeks and months to PVDoor.

What alternative do I have? I could stay up much later and play in a more “Equal” competition timezone, or I could get out of work earlier for the same thing. I mean, I get where you are coming from, but some of us don’t have a choice of when we can play. No, facerolling is not the funnest thing, but it sure beats not playing at all…

I honestly think it can go either way. All servers have the potential , its about allocating the right numbers at the right times and keeping moral high.

You would be outclassed if you ever went to SO. Assuming that everyone of these people is mentaly and physicaly disabled and incapable of doing sports just shows how much you actually know about the people competing in it.

That wasn’t a knock on the SO, and there is no doubt in my mind that the participants outclass me. I was merely reminded of the saying about winning a medal there when people talk about beating other servers in a video game. Yes the joke is crude and I should probably have used a different phrase, but alas I didn’t think someone would take such offense. Sorry mate.

Ok, I have to ask. Where are all the ranked people on JQ and BG? I have noticed the past few nights that almost everyone we run into are Invaders and Assaulters. Maybe a few raiders. But honestly that is it. I mean I am a footman which is about average I think, I know there are people Colonel and General maybe even a Veteran or two on SoR, I assume there has to be some on JQ and BG… So where are you?

I don’t want this to turn into a kitten contest of who is highest or anything I just honestly want to know why everyone around here seem to be so low. Do you guys change characters every day or something?

I have too many characters that I like to wvw with so they are all relatively low ranked. I spose if you combined them I would be around “Footman”

That’s only 3 short bows at most, plus heartseeker at the end to close.

So you said four possible ports, I see him only using three, then he switched weapons to dag dag and had enough to use heartseeker. Is there also not a dodge to initiative? There are several dodges in that line as well.

The heart seeker animation is completely different from Shadowstep and infiltrators arrow and is very noticeable, mainly because it is less of a teleport, and more of a long jumping motion. As a previous poster pointed out, even Infiltrators arrow has a visible animation to see (the black smoke).

Also, I only pointed out a 5 second window there. If you watch the subsequent 6 or so seconds, he does it all over again. It’s just not possible that ALL of his initiative was regained and Shadowstep was off cool down again.

Of all the “Hacking” that is going on, this is clearly a minor gripe, but to wave it off when clearly there is something wrong is just ignorant. Maybe if it was one video by one player, but it is two that pretty much show the same guy.

Under normal circumstances I would say that is Shortbow 5 (Infiltrators arrow)+ Shadow step, but even a thief with increased initiative could only use infiltrators arrow 3 times, plus Shadowstep once within a 5-6 second span. With the cost of Infiltrators arrow, you can’t keep spammin it quite as quick

So he is either exploiting something wrong with the game mechanics, or he is rockin an Ethiopian internet connection and porting all over place due to lag.

Between 0:16 and 0:22 he ports 8 times (Possibly 7 if we count that short one after the second leap as “lag”. Lets just say that he had an increased initiative rate and has 15 points in the “Trickery” tree for +3 max initiative. That gives him 15 points of initiative. Initiative regens at 1 point every 1.33 seconds. Infilitrators Arrow costs 6 initiative. Shadowstep has a 50 second cooldown so if it was used, it was only used once.

So lets just say he has max initiative at the 17 second mark when he does his first “Port”. Between 0:17 and 0:22 he would have gained 3.75 Initiative (5 seconds divided by 1.33), we can round up to 4. So he effectively has 19 initiative within that 5 second time span which is good for 3 infiltrators arrows (6×3=18). If we add in the free Shadows-Step, that brings the total up to 4 possible ports. Even if we knock my initial “Port” total down to 6, it is still not possible within that time frame.

Even if we accounted for the 3 additional initiative you can gain from weapon swapping, and the 2 you can get for using a heal (Shadow Arts V), that still does not add up.

If my math is wrong, or if i’m seeing something in the video that is not there, please correct me. I just don’t see how it is possible that he is doing that.

I can tell you from many weeks in T1 (we were formerly ET) it isn’t all its cracked up to be, especially for Oceanics. The frustration of taking a few points then having the Asian guilds come right in afterwards and undoing all your work in 30 minutes is soul destroying.

Koreans were BG’s undoing during our first tour in T1.

I think what you are forgetting is that by equipping this signet, you are essentially giving up a skill slot for increased speed…

I like both, my only issue being – Would it be like a cast time to climb up the ladders? Because the actual act of climbing the ladder would make for many problems. I can see the siege tower as almost walking up stairs, but with the ladders, one player could in theory “clog-up the ladder” by not moving on it.

So I was the only person on our server doing the chain to open up CoF. I was at the final part where you have to stay on the bridge and defend it, and if the total number of enemies exceed how many defenders there are, it goes red and you have to take it back. Well it’s a six minute event and you really only need to kill stuff during the last minute, but here I am with about 30 seconds left kiting the champion mob, and he gets right next to the edge, and naturally I hit death blossom. There I go, flying off the bridge as the timer ticks down to zero and the whole chain has to start again…

With power not affecting condition damage, I would try 0/0/30/20/20

The AC shortbow is pretty big, has a cool skin, and glows blue (at night / dungeons) like the rest of the AC weapons.

Hey all, just got back from my brief tour overseas and found that my guild had all transferred servers, so now i’m looking for a replacement. I pretty much just do WvW and Dungeons, and would love to find an active guild to run groups in both. The times i’m online are pretty hectic, but generally try and get on around 5ish MST.

I feel weird posting this in the forums, but I feel better about this than spamming “LF Guild” in Lion’s Arch. Feel free to drop a post here or find me in-game. You obviously have not spent enough time playing as or against thieves if you think spamming any one move will kill any player. Go ahead, try spamming Unload on a semi-comitent enemy and see if it dies. Try hearseeker with its meager damage. Deathblossom really? It has quite a high initiative cost. And spamming Pistol whip in any pvp situation is laughable… it’s a root move that can easily be countered…

So…my first MMO was Star Wars Galaxies, and after the “Big” patch, I played as a spy. Saw a video, circa 2006 that had a rogue in WoW doing some cool things in UBRS. Rolled a rogue for 4 years. Played as a thief in Lord of the Rings online for a little while. Last year when SWTOR came out I played as a the steathy class (forget the name). So when GW2 came out, I went, maybe I should break the ice and try something new. So I started a Necromancer, and here I am today with my necromancer at level 11 and my 80 thief.

Thief/Rogue/Spy classes are like cocaine, they are addictive.

So what is the build?

I saw a 5/0/30/30/5 build that seemed similar, but am curious exactly what you are using.

All last week I never really bought the whole 2v1 argument that was going down. Granted, I really only played in SBI BL (being on SBI myself), I never saw complete domination of BG. Today however, I braved the 1h+ que to get into EB and saw that most of BG’s territories were being dominated by SBI, and a few with JQ. Looking at the score, I see that SBI is only up on JQ a few hundred points, and both realms are sitting at around 275 currently. Then in chat someone posts “Why are we beating on Blackgate when JQ is only a few hundred points behind”, to which most of the replies came “Blackgate are hackers”, “Blackgate is the stronger server”, “Blackgate had this coming”….this replies kinda cought me off guard.

I don’t really believe that there is a true 2v1 pac between SBI and JQ, but many players seem to have the mentality that Blackgate simply deserves to be crushed….Kinda cheap IMO

What’s that? A stealth class that’s actually using its stealth abilities to productively help his/her team in a pvp setting?

SBI players are made of the hardest metal in all the lands. We have some coordination, but rely on Koreans to win in the end. We do not rely on some great alliance but on the SBI’s Korean players and above all, we fight to the end because it is fun. To understand SBI, you must understand Koreans.
