When people don’t understand how expensive MMORPGs are to make and maintain.
I very rarely ever play the game anymore, but I can’t imagine it will die any time soon. Personally, I just couldn’t give any less of a kitten about the story, and even if I could just breeze through it, I hate the idea of needing to do it to get to newer maps, but hey… I know I’ll eventually get around to it, but I just feel burned out on the game… for the past however many months, and there isn’t much that keeps me interested.
Immersion in an MMORPG? Excuse me while I laugh with my guild mate xx_DragonSlayer_xx
God… I just know there’s probably someone with that kind of name out there. As tired as I am with GW2 right now, I do have to defend some of its more sillier features. An MMO bogged down in overly serious crap will get stale over time, or just not attract as many players. And alos won’t be as fun. Not for me, anyway.
Also, just try an take the bunny ears away from my warrior! I dare you!
I never understood why people felt Caithe was like the embodiment of evil, and distrusted her that much. Even if her actions were a breach of trust, she didn’t come across wholly malicious, and she still remained my favourite DE member. In the context of the story, I guess I could maybe understand why she was treated so harshly by the player character, what with the dragon being so important, but the hate for her makes zero sense to me, especially when I liked her character, whilst others were far more annoying. So, even if she were to be seen as malicious, I’d still like her as a character more than some of the others who follow the player around.
I can understand wanting to skip dialogue. Up until the last episode, I had at least some interest in the story, despite my lack of connection to the characters, but now I just can’t be bothered. It may have had something to do with the continued feeling of my character not acting as I would imagine she would, Aurene being shoved down our throats, and other characters we’re forced to tolerate, but once it hit that Aurene escort-like mission, I was done with the story.
So yeah… I understand wanting to play the content, but not giving a rat’s kitten about the story.
After the first mission of the current Living World story, I just gave up on the story. I’ll probably end up doing it, what with hearing there’s a new map, and all, but my caring for the story has reached an all time low. There are just too many little negative points that culminate to my overall dislike of it. I’m really not a fan of the human female voice acting. Like… really. I don’t like it. I only really have an issue with it in the story, and not so much just exploring, and whatnot. There are too many characters that I just don’t care in the slightest about, or just outright dislike. I hate how my character is as far away from my personal image of her as possible. I know people love it, but I don’t care about Aurene. I hate the forced attempt at trying to strike an emotional connection with the Aurene from the player character. From what I’ve seen things are changing, but I personally had very little issue with Caithe, and she was my favourite DE member, so my characters kitteniness towards her was off-putting. On a similar subject, Eir was my second favourite DE member, so naturally I wouldn’t have liked how things turned out. Very few characters rub me the wrong way like Marjory does.
I know it can’t be easy to make a story that caters to everyone, in an MMO, but this just hits too many bad points for me that it’s just a chore.

it is their game, they can dictate how it is played. lazy people are always lazy. if you want something work for it, including vendor access.
Did you read the thread? I’m guessing not.
Lazy people will be lazy people, I agree. it takes less than 2 minutes to complete the heart. Its a way to introduce more reward to a map. If you can’t be bothered to take 2 minutes to unlock the merchant, you’re not worth what the merchant sells.
I’m more than willing to unlock my merchant, thank you very much. I did that with every other heart merchant in the game and I didn’t complain about it. But let’s see how you like doing that every day over and over and over for a year.
That’t not the mark of a busy bee, that’s just masochism. And again, it’s not about being lazy, it’s about being a kitten Sisyphos. I’m running map completion on my alts, and my mesmer had hearts partially finished, before I dropped out to bed. Now I can go ahead and do it AGAIN, because my progress was reset. That’s not “having to work for something”, that’s “being a kitten to players for having a life”.
That means these hearts are not part of map completion. If something is repeatable, it’s not clearable. So why are you bothered by them ruining your map completion? Think of them not as hearts but as daily tasks.
But its not about doing it every day again and again for a year. you gather your resources, and unlock the merchant when you need to buy something. you could gather all the petrified wood and then unlock the merchants and buy everything in one go. no one is forcing you to re-unlock them everyday.
So unless you need the merchant specifically, think of them as events you can do or ignore. Events don’t count to map completion either.
You really are not getting the point. I couldn’t give a flying kitten about the merchants. If they were events, then that would be no problem. But they’re not events. They’re hearts that count towards the map completion percentage, that resets daily. This is poor design, regardless of what you say. It’s effectively raising a middle finger to completionists who like to see everything complete. It’s got nothing to do with us being lazy. It’s got everything to do with how, no matter what you do, you’re never going to be able to permanently 100% Ember Bay.
Like I’ve said before, yeah, it’s a small issue. Yeah, it may not be worth getting this irritated about, but it’s still an issue. It’s still a design flaw. Hell, think of it this way, when every other heart event in the game saves your progress, even if you don’t complete it, why now is there a map where the hearts that count towards 100% map completion reset everyday, whether you completed them or not? You shouldn’t have to repeat them to always show the map as completed. That’s not being lazy. That’s just every game with map completion, ever.
I remain at my point that the flaw is that you consider them to be the same hearts like the mainland hearts. THEY’RE NOT, THEY’RE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS THAT JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE A HEART-LIKE ICON. They do not count towards map completion. They reset because they’re events with a heart-shaped icon the map.
The old me would have said something insulting around this point.
They do count towards map completion. They count towards 13% of the map. Once you complete them, along with everything else, you get a completed 100% map. But because the hearts are reset everyday, whether you completed them or not, that 13% is taken away, as if you never did it in the first place. I cannot make this any clearer.

As a DD thief, too, I see where you’re coming from, but this is why you carry some range with you, too. You can’t always fight at melee range. At least thieves can’t. I can’t speak for other classes. I was mainly using a short bow during the fight, and switching to daggers when there were few enemies. This is just a case of having to adapt as the situation demands. For the most part I don’t have too much of an issue with DD in PvE, but I’ll agree that it’s a disadvantage in this fight. Even then, it’s not completely out of the question to switch from melee to range, in the fight. Just keep your distance when your health is low, utilise dodges and heals well. Stealth and run, if you need to. It wasn’t that hard to survive, really.
Yes, but because hearts reset daily, it also resets the map completion percentage. Granted, it’s a minor issue, but it’s a minor issue that I’m sure irritates completionists who like seeing things complete. I’d rather always have the map show 100%, and it just allows you to repeat hearts, if you want, rather than having it reset it to 87% and just being a nightmare for people with OCD.
Yeah… Marjory has always been my least favourite member of the team, so I kind of just let her attitude slide, since I didn’t care. If she were to die for the sake of some development for Kasmeer, I would be 100% okay with that.
I wouldn’t have a problem if they were optional. Repeatable hearts operate under the assumption that players will care about them after the first, and maybe second completion. I get that completing them all, along with map completion gives you rewards each day, but I’d much rather have a permanently complete map, for the completionist in me. I don’t see why they need to be repeatable when you could probably just add the rewards onto the many events on the map. Seeing the map reset to its percentage just grates me.
Untrustworthy or not, hidden agendas or not, Caithe is still my favourite member of Destiny’s Edge… Well, the now defunct Destiny’s Edge.

Whispering is most definitely not a new tactic.
I think it’s pretty cool… Not “OMFG TYSM ANET” cool, but you know…
Although, I can see how it would be pretty neat if you were transgender yourself, and saw some representation.
I don’t want to bring logic to a fantasy game, but no… Just no. I mean, how the hell is a plant meant to reproduce with an animal? This is putting aside the fact that we learn that Sylvari have no reproductive organs. And I don’t even want to think of the abomination that would be a Charr and Asura hybrid…
The only one that would make some sense to me would be a Norn and Human hybrid, since they at least looks similar… putting aside the whole shapeshifting thing… and the size difference.
You’re welcome to go to other MMOs and have issues like this on a far more regular basis… Christ.
No, but real talk… One large mistake in this game’s currently four year run is no reason to be demanding compensation, when they were transparent with their progress fixing it. Not to mention, unless you received a super rare drop, two hours of lost gameplay is really not enough of a reason to start making demands.
People make mistakes. I’m sure locating every possible bug is no easy task. MMOs are not easy to maintain, I’m sure. It’s pretty lame to start whining about it, when it’s a first offence. And if they kept the servers offline until they fixed the bug, it would have taken considerably longer, and I’m positive people would be complaining even more. So, rolling back two hours, though unfortunate, is hardly a deal breaker. People need to stop feeling so entitled.
So on the day i decided to buy gems, this happens?
I had just started playing, was doing some Bloodstone fen for masteries while waiting for my brother.
So pretty much a few minutes after spending money on GW2, i got booted of the game, having barely played. Lost my chance at progressing Year of Ascension, whatever i did manage to get is now lost.
So sum of my GW2 play session today, 35€ less on my bank account and nothing on my game account.
But for me the worse is losing the chance at progressing the Year of Ascension metas. It was already a pretty impossible task to do 3/4 of them in this season alone, not lessened by the BAD matchmaking i’ve been getting. All this to say that Arena net needs to throw us some love back, and give us back some amend for our loss.
They said those who bought gems would still have them when the game goes live again.
I demand one million gold!
But in all seriousness, I don’t really care much about compensation, but for people who lost some pretty valuable content, like ultra rare drops, or whatever, then I’d say some form of compensation is only fair, for them, at least.
Ooh. I might go back to WvW to get in on some Gankdara slaughtering.

In a word: no. I really have to question what server you’re playing on to believe that so few people the game. Even then, you can see that there are a number of servers that are full and have a very high population. Even if your server has hardly anyone playing that’s not to say that the game is dead as there are other servers that are very much alive.
I may not exactly be a veteran or whatever at the game but this sounds like a ridiculous idea. It essentially takes away a great deal of the progression of a character. Slate character levelling all you want but if you have earned a large amount of skill points on one character and make a new one, I can’t imagine how ridiculous it would be to be able to just unlock skill after skill after skill right at the get go and when you reach the level to unlock them.
I think this really is a non-issue that Anet shouldn’t even waste their time thinking about. Just go and do skill challenges, level your character; it’s not hard.
I just completed the personal story for the first time which actually required me for the first time in the personal story to play with other players. Of course, being an MMO, I played with other players in other aspects of the game, but it did feel very inconsistent making the player join a group or grab a friend to do Arah with. (I won’t even go into how inconsistent it is making that dungeon compulsory for the personal story, but not the others).
Don’t get me wrong, it was fun, and I played with a great bunch of people, but that was the only time I felt as if a dungeon should really have a solo mode. But after searching online initially for to see if I could do Arah story mode solo (I know I can’t now) and seeing one comment that said something along the lines of it’s an MMO, just lfg or ask your guild, I kind of had to agree. It’s fine that there are players who would rather do things at their own pace and play solo, but I also think its better for an MMO to encourage more cooperative play. Judging by the comments so far, most dungeons are already possible to do solo, so I don’t see why it would be necessary to include a solo mode.

I made my male human character first and at the time didn’t really focus on the options enough to notice much ridiculous about them, other than some of them being pretty young. I do reckon I managed to make a male that didn’t look as bad as everyone in this blog is implying all the male faces looked. However, with my female human character it was far too easy to be disappointed… Although to be disappointed I suppose that would mean I would have expected more decent options, which I really kind of wasn’t. There are perhaps one or two figures for the females that don’t make them either look anorexic or very unrealistically proportioned, and of course those are the ones I went for. Hell, I’m relieved there was even one that wasn’t totally ridiculous.
I notice this too, but if it’s been in the game since beta, I wouldn’t hold your breath for a fix any time soon.
Wah! Quaggans are for hugging, not for killing!
I like the name Trixx for an Asura, and I like the idea of an Asuran archivist. Of course on its own it would be taken.
Anyway, I’ll give it a 9/10… It was my first choice, after all.

I know its amusing to some and frustrating for others… but its actually making me very sick. I’ve never had issues with motion sickness in GW2 until today.
I just can’t play like this.
For all of you that are feeding off of the “haters” on this forum thread, does that not mean anything to you? That some of us physically can’t take it as a joke?
Sadly they just don’t care. Even if the issue is serious, you ‘have no humour’ or ‘are a hater’. I’m having medical issues with the prank as well, so I’ve decided not to play today.
Don’t have a choice in the matter. No GW2 today for me either.
You have a choice. It is funny – it seems people take their gaming WAY TOO SERIOUS!!
Congratulations on taking my last statement out of context for your own personal gain. Its either that or you somehow believe that those of us that are getting physically sick while trying to play the game today aren’t in fact sick — we’re just taking it too serious. Gotcha.
Sigh.
Right?
This is so disheartening.
Most of us merely explained that we thought it was funny, but we wished for a toggle off on it because the movements make us physically sick.
I don’t understand why stating this means we are TOO serious about a game and need to go outside.
I just don’t get it.
You know… I don’t want to say “Because it’s the internet” but that’s the only explanation I can come up with. The internet is a place where… Well… the internet is just horrible… Convenient, but horrible.
What I’m starting to find amusing about this is how easily amused people are. Not that being easily amused is a bad thing; I just prefer more intelligence in my humour.
My friend, I do take pleasure in well-executed, clever, complex jokes as well, yet I don’t feel the need to indirectly call others intellectually inferior people just because their tastes in humour are different to my own.
You see, by doing this you do not appear to be smarter, cleverer or more sophisticated. Instead, you look like a stuck-up, pretentious kitten. Now, if you put some thought into it, you’ll realise that people are just happy that ANET took some of their time to add something wacky to commemorate today’s occasion and are, in turn, expressing their gratitude by sharing screenshots, opinions and whatnot.
In time you will realise that a person’s intellect and cleverness show on their own without needing to foolishly downsize others to demonstrate them.
Well, for starters I don’t actually recall calling anybody intellectually inferior. I do recall saying that the joke lacked any intellectual credit, but hey, let’s just put words in my mouth for the hell of it.
I don’t recall ever saying that if you like this kind of thing then you must be an idiot. All I’m saying is you have to be pretty easily amused to like this kind of thing. I’m sure you can be easily amused and intelligent simultaneously, but there’s no point in denying that this kind of humour is pretty juvenile, and it’s just not to my tastes.I may have misinterpreted your words, but to me (and others) it seemed that you were indirectly calling others dull-witted. If that was not your intention, then I’ll simply stand corrected and derail the thread no further.
Still, you might want to consider thinking your words a little bit more carefully in the future as to avoid misunderstandings. You and I know how easy it is to start arguments in the internet.
I have gotten into arguments over the internet that went nowhere far too many times. So, yeah, I’d kind of like to avoid that.
At any rate, sorry for not being clear. I had no intentions of insulting anyone and I’ll try to make myself clearer in the future.
What I’m starting to find amusing about this is how easily amused people are. Not that being easily amused is a bad thing; I just prefer more intelligence in my humour.

Asura are smart. They now have bigger heads. By definition, their brains are now much larger than before.
Bigger brain = more intelligence.
There you go. Now laugh!
kitten … That was actually kind of amusing.

Dang it. Now this thread makes me want to go and make myself an Asura… I guess I’ll have to go brush up on my arrogance and narcissism if I want to rp with them.
Oh, it definitely panders to hetro male teens, but at the end of the day, at least it’s something. As much as I would like it if people would “appreciate” a male gay couple in the same way… Well… this is the Internet we’re talking about.
I am so sick of whiners all you guys do is whine.
We don’t like something, so we’re expressing that opinion, and the reasons why. I see little wrong with that.
You’re whining. This forum is terrible, so many party poopers. You don’t like it? Then don’t play for a bit.
Yeah. I don’t like it, so I’m not going to play for the day. I am going to go and do other things. The thing is, while it is a bit of fun for a lot of people and while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, people who want to play the game without it should be given the option. We’re not trying to dampen the fun for others.
This is a fundamental power abuse by the Devs; by playing an April Fool’s “joke” on the community, when the community is not able to do so on the Devs.
Poor judgement Devs, very poor judgement.
You know… There’s hating the ability to disable it and there’s going a little too far. Sure, I hate it to, but I would hardly call it power abuse. It is just a little bit of April fools fun for people, which, unfortunately, people who don’t want it don’t have the ability to turn off. Poor judgement? Sure. Power abuse? Hmm… That’s maybe stretching it.
I think that would be the locker… although, I’m not entirely sure. I do know that we will be able to change weapon skins, though.
Log out and relog in and don’t change maps. One day won’t kill you.
Yeah. Why don’t we all play staying in one map… :p Anyway, I’m not a fan of it, but I can just go and do other things, instead. So, yeah, one day won’t kill us.
Better call the fun police… ANet can’t let loose one gag one day of the year.
We’re not saying they can’t. We’re saying that the people who want to turn it off should at least have the option.
