my set up goes like this: I have a razer naga mouse which helps alot and a blackwidow keyboard. Utilities: Q E R F / SHIFT+E for elite / F1-4 are on my mouse including mark someone and target marked player. You can keep W pressed to move forward while with the left mouse button you pan that camera.

I knew this thread would devolve into the “cry moar” screams. All I’m suggesting is making the mesmer not an absolute necessity in a team comp.

Time warp is the most powerful elite in the entire game by a long shot and it goes very well with other classes who lack quickness. I’ve played a mesmer a decent bit and I believe that mesmer is probably one of the worst classes to take advantage of time warp itself. That doesn’t mean it’s not extremely powerful. A guardian can pop a full heal and an ele can pop a churning earth in 2 seconds each.

As far as suggestions to what to do to it I guess I can give a couple

1. Make portal an elite to vie for time warp. The two combined is the problem IMO.
2. Reduce the duration of time warp/reduce the radius.
3. Give quickness to the other team as well!

Any one of these would make time warp very viable and suitable as an elite in specific situations and would bring it in line to every other elite in the game. No one loses their mind when an engi supply crates and screams for their team to kite back. All I want is for time warp to not have the same “I win this team fight GTFO” feeling.

MAN thats perfect!!! #3 suggestion is absolutely perfect! Giving quickness to the enemy too might just be perfect because that way it gives them a chance but your team still has the advantage because they are ready for the time warp while as the enemy team is not. Brilliant man.
I played Mesmer for a realllyyyyy long time probably one of the best if not the best Mesmer at my prime and i agree that time warp is just too good. A good placed time warp will finish a fight in 5 seconds i know because ive done it many times.

Some teams plays with Ele double dagger tf, other go for bunker ele s/d, far point.
Necro condi/bunker or double weels carrion or power.

Some teams like the spanish one plays double ele, we play double guardian/ranger, but 95% of teams are playing the setup above.
Maybe because it’s the strongest one ? because it has the most broken spec in it (ele tank/thief dd).

That’s pretty standard everywhere, except you see 100b warrior more and staff ele less in NA

What what??? no….
dont look at qt’s comp and say its the meta
not even close….

In all reality, what this all is going to come down to is when we can actually see EU vs NA go down. But, being that EU players seem to have the biggest kittening ego’s in the world, you better ENSURE you win. Of course, it’s gonna be kinda rough for you to win with my team spawn camping you and forcing a 500-100 victory NA style down your throat.

Personally, I have nothing against these EU teams. These outlandish claims make it extremely hard to show any amount of respect to EU teams though…

For the EU guys that are in here supporting the OP, how about you grab your team and come play with us? You run your mouths too much. Quit giving off the excuse that “paids don’t pop NA”. If you want to keep talking, grab your sack and prove your worth over here. Scrubs.

IMO, they have to leave this in, or they would have to completely redesign alot of the maps. Its WAY too easy to range-siege the vast majority of the cap points at the moment. Not even the best bunker builds can eat uncontested damage forever without applying pressure on the enemy via damage and cc (forcing them to move, heal, applying cc all reduces the damage they deal to you).

Way too many random cliffs above siege points that require you to traverse a stair/ramp that is often far from the cap point.

They dont have to redesign anything…. all they have to do is making all projectile skills in pvp hit which im sure would not be hard they dont have to touch pve/wvw at all.

Nop but i did try it for a bit. Never played it like that, was more of a pvp person never a grinder so i played wow in private server. AND OMG really are you that dense seriously? HOW IS IT UNAVOIDABLE what is that yellow bar above your health for, like are you thinking??? WHAT IS STABILITY for? what is line of sight for? man thats such a stupid statement…

There are serious skill factors involved here. You as an attacker can change how you utilize skills so they will be dodged less. The person getting shot at can try to avoid the shots. There is nothing wrong here.

Removing this just dumbs down the game.

How would this dumb down the game? how does this improve the game in the slightest please tell me Where you can basically DODGE all projectiles without pressing a dodge button how is that fair? Im pretty sure you play a class that this doesn’t effect at all. I as an attack? how am i suppose to stop someone from wiggling around? imobolize? so what im suppose to waste another utility slot just to get something off no… i shouldn’t have to deal with this where other classes don’t have to either, it’s messed up.

There is already enough skill in paid tournaments without stuff like this. Like strategy, where do people go and how/when. This thing just messes up 1-1’s of skilled player vs skilled player.

man can you relax a bit and see things objectively.
You mention about 30 sec cooldowns and you mean deep freeze from the frost bow.
In 1vs1 i can count your dodges wait for your endurance to run out plus your stunbreakers and then pop the bow and STUN YOU FOR 5 kittenIT SECONDS.
Having projectiles being avoidable through movement is part of the balance.
Like how you can avoid most line immobilises and hard cc.
Its not that they wake up one day and decided they throw away the relatevily easy coded projectile homming combat..

You still dont get it if i count dodges/wait for stun breaker/ all that wont matter if he can still dodge by spamming left and right keys. Most line cc’s/imbolizes at least go in a straight line at the targets location and have a range on which they can catch you on, but by doing this your projectiles not only don’t go on that spot by they go wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy left or right so there is no chance so please don’t compare the two. And im sorry but i don’t think you will ever truly understand what im talking since you don’t really pvp at all.

oh i am pvping..try staying into spot going left and right and come back and tell us what happened..If you spamm strafe right and left YOU DONT MOVE.You dont get to keep your range…In short it doesnt work in real structured pvp scenario except very rare choices for some skills that could just get a velocity increase..

I really hope they dont make projectiles home because some random whined on the forums..

See this is where i tell you L2P to be good enough to abuse this bug like most paids players are. I checked for you in QP ladder i dont see you there. S-PVP zergs are nothing like a real paids player in tournaments. In a 1-1 a good player will abuse this.

All i see is you avoiding ice shards,frost bow autoattack and deep freeze which im pretty sure is intented to have such low velocity.Other than that rangers got speed increase, bullet range classes have no problem,thief shortbow homes as well as mesmers most skills and necros dont rely on projectiles at all..

I did not dismiss your opinion. I read it and understood it. But i also realized you really have no clue what is happening and why this is bad for the game so i just chose the easy way and i dismissed your statements because in my eyes they hold no ground. ha. I’m actually getting a chuckle out of the people saying “L2P, I’ll time your dodge and wait til it’s off CD, and working as intended.” You people are dense. I mean like, imperviously dense.

The video clearly shows strafing left/right/left/right in a pattern where you never even lose position. You are in the same spot but using a broken mechanic to evade attacks.

The equivalent here would be if you could just jump up and down and evade melee attacks. That would be a terribly broken mechanic, just as this is a terribly broken mechanic. I’m still baffled at how some of you are like “this is good for the game, L2P.” LOL

strafin left and right locks you in place as a trade off..also not homing projectiles give players with good reaction time another edge against slow moving numb keyboard turners..

BTW it dosent lock you in place you just can just strafe ALL THE WAY LEFT and keep going all you have to do is press the right key like once or twice and it will do the same exact thing. You can go forward and stafe left to right not losing any speed and dodging everything coming at you. Please L2-projectile duck and than you will understand why this is not good. ok and goodbye

This is fine, in melee you can avoid being hit by just moving a bit. Do you really want arrows/projectiles to chase their target like in WoW? The system is fine, its not that easy in real combat nor gamebreaking.

If i recall right melee damage is wayyy more than range damage. Secondly you can do the same exact thing to range you can “line of sight” which is the big one you can move out of range, basically the same things you can do with melee. Auto attack dosent bother me that much at all since you can spam it. ITS MISSING skills, big skills on 30 second cd’s or more that bothers me, just because the person changed direction of their movement (its ridiculous).

As people get better and better at the game they will utilize stuff like this to basically mess up any combo the other person had lined up. Top players in Paids are utalizing this more and more as i have been because why not.. why waste a dodge when you can spam <-/-> ….

Yeah pretty ridiculous. Hope this gets changed or fixed in a near future patch.

I agree with OP.

If they start changing these things then this game will truly become a wow with dodge..

How is this game remotely close to wow? And how would remove this mechanism make it like it, you act like this change would be sooo huge when most people dident even know this existed.

Believe it or not, just because you just now discovered this does not mean most other people never knew about it. Anyone whose spends about 5 mins playing a ranged profession should be able to tell ranged projectiles track to hit the target at their current direction and velocity, so if you change either of those then you miss. Also, as I stated before this was in GW1 also. There were actually several different types of bows to choose from in GW1 with different range, armor penetration, and flight time as well as skills that increased arrow velocity all based around this mechanic. And guess what, GW1 came out seven years ago, so implying that you made some ground breaking discovery that nobody else knew about just makes you look stupid.

Did i say i just discoverd this amazing new thing? I knew about it just never really tried to focus on it, and i stand by my statement that MOST people don’t know this exists. Im sure people knew way before me but that does not change the ground of my post. Infact we know it exists i think we established that so rather you calling me stupid for no reason why dont you give some reasons as to why it should stay or be removed in the game.

Watching this is so amusing. I even reported this as an issue myself before I understood it fully. This issue as you see it is part of the game mechanics for projectiles and really has very little impact unless it’s a slow moving projectile at nearly full range. As you get closer the velocity is too great to dodge the projectiles. THIS is why they increased the speed of projectiles on certain classes with the last patch because they rely on those projectiles too much and they were just slightly too easy to evade completely.

ANet is aware of this and it is a game mechanic. It does not affect pvp unless somebody is trying to shoot you from basically fully range. It’s also really only an issue for the autoattack shots because they have the slowest velocity. As a defender if all you’re doing is autoattacking and sitting on point hoping you can kill somebody assaulting then you’re bad. If you’re an assaulter autoattacking somebody sitting on point defending and you think you can get away with a no skill success guess what? your opponent simply has to walk change vectors to thwart you. JUST LIKE SHOOTING A MOVING TARGET IN REAL LIFE :O

At full range? i could not hit a target within 400 range with my icebow…… Ok autoatack is whatever but what about actual skills? that’s messed up in my opinion/ if i time and try to land skill perfectly and they miss within 400 range because the other person change the direction they were moving fast?

Well you aren’t doing anything useful when you “duck” anyway, so it’s a trade-off. Either you stand and wiggle like a fool, or you start doing something useful.

Also, you can manually aim projectiles. If ducking and the auto-aiming is too annoying for you just aim your skills manually..

And as others have said, there are many other ways to deal with this too.
This isn’t really a problem:P

Sooo if i timed everything right, got the other persons endurance down, got their stability and i start casting a projectile that they cant dodge, you think it’s ok for the to just wiggle and dodge it how does that make sense to you?

If you play a melee with no ranged attack (like a bunker or something), your dead in the water without this. The majority of cap points in this game have arbitrary high ground that just creates easy kiting/safe locations for ranged units to attack directly onto the cap point. A melee without ranged has basically no way to fight back without eating massive damage traversing the extra terrain (and it wastes a hell of alot of time chasing them around obstacles too – at which point the ranged guy can just jump down). Think krylo center point, forest all 3 points, temple all 3 points, capricorn 2 side points, legacy center point.

If they ever did make it so projectiles can’t miss, then melees would be absolutely useless. There’s already too many ways for a ranged build to hit directly onto the cap points with huge terrain advantages.

What you dont understand is that this mechanic makes 0 differance in big team fights but it hinders 1-1’s the most. Because when you see a big skill coming and you’re out of endurance if the person timed it right you can just do this to avoid it.

As Main warrior, who has hardly any good viable builds, shout heal or glass cannon, both do not really incorporate my playstyle, I rolled a Ranger, pre-patch actually, and enjoyed them alot more in pvp, however as the OP shows this was the main thing I noticed the first round I played, projectiles get shot into the expected trajectory, this wiggling thing, or even simple change of direction of the opponent, will make arrows miss, problem is that in a fight with a short bow, only 40% of the arrows will actually hit your target with this system, as they are constantly moving, and unless they are simply strafing in a linear way, you just won;t hit your target, meaning in 1v1 situations it becomes a severe handycap even just to land your regular hits.

Thankfully rangers got a buff so it wouldn’t happen as much but as you can so from the video it still happens a huge portion of the time. It will just say obstructed/out of range even though you are in range and there is nothing blocking your way.

Yes, because you don’t need to be within melee range to get a low enough flight time that your arrows will hit. Plus there is this thing called ‘kiting’ that you can do, I suggest you look it up if you plan on playing a ranged class.

Yeh the rangers got that buff that they now hit like 50% of their arrows with shortbow. But most classes did not get that buff. And as to “Kiting” what is the point of trying to range someone if everything misses?? how am i suppose to kite someone if i have to get close to hit them (within 300 range).

Projectile Ducking: Move side to side fast and you will dodge almost all projectiles coming at you.

Some classes don’t have to deal with this like thives, where as most have this problem.

A-net if you want this game to secede as an e-sport like you have talked about in the past than, i don’t believe this game mechanic will help you achieve that goal in the slightest. This is an MMO not a FPS, so why this is in the game it makes no sense to me.

I hate to compare this to other games but look at most games out there, lets take WoW since it’s something people are familiar with, look at the mage class (it mostly resembles elementalist in Gw2) the skills always hit unless out of range/behind or interrupted/reflected.

Im in no way saying this game is anything like WoW but they are both mmo’s (gw2 is better).

If this is a bug (which im praying it is) or if it’s not would you please let us know because im really anxious to know.

I just showed you one way of doing it in the video. You can also do this by just moving forward and strafing left/right at the same time while still holding the same speed and never getting hit from projectiles. You can also do it by just moving left or right and pressing the opposite key once or twice for a minimal amount of time.

He obviously doesn’t Tpvp lol.

The trait buff was way uncalled for and totally out of the blue. Jonathon Sharp, I am super disappointed by this buff, as I thought you guys at least sort of followed the meta but you obviously don’t. Please start spending more of your time watching top player streams instead of listening to whining people on forums wanting buffs.

Here are some quick suggestions to give you a general direction you SHOULD be going in.

Neuter thief dagger/dagger burst, buff sword or pistols
Tone down Elementalist healing, buff scepter
Buff necro axe, dagger, minions
Buff ranger greatsword,sword,longbow
Buff engi useless kits and mabye make turrets better
Give warriors more condi removal, maybe tone down their dmg a bit in return

Buff mesmer condi damage, condi removal, scepter.
Do NOT buff the already existing strong shatters.

So you just want everything to be a neverending fight?

I’m going to have to agree that this buff was a negative change for the metagame, since the Shatter spec was already the dominant Mesmer spec in tournament play, and one considered almost as mandatory for teams as bunker Guardians. Now the same spec that was already considered top-tier for tourney play is running around with 9+ stacks of Might, so there’s no room for other Mesmer specs in competitive play. I’d love to run a Legion build or something, but if I do, I’m handicapping myself and my team right off the bat, because there’s such a massive difference in power between the specs.

If anything, Shatters needed to be toned down a bit last patch. Not by much, but enough to allow other styles of Mesmer to appear in the metagame (many other Mesmer builds are already strong, and just can’t quite compare to the Shatter spec). Now, even when I’ve gone into Hotjoin recently, I’ve only seen one type of Mesmer build, and that’s the Shatter build. That, in my opinion, indicates that something’s off with balance.

Lol wow since when do any of you guys play mesmer? shatter did not get buffed at all…. Phantasesms did…….

In P-TPvP mesmers are balanced now! finally! and btw our illusions are naked and just stand there in turnies.

What about 100b warrior/ backstab thief? you complain about 9 might stacks. Do you guys realize that the shatter damage wont be affect by those might stacks? You get the might stacks after you burst meaning it just gives mesmers like 10% more sustained damage.

Get off spvp zerg servers and play some paid tournaments……

i agree with the decision. it brings in the unpredictability factor, something that tpvp has not had. once you commit to a build, you have to make it work, period. constant switching was just silly. so if one team decides to do something out of the ordinary, and they pull it off well, why should the other team have the capability to directly counter that almost instantly? this change will encourage planning and organizing before a match. and as poster above me said, it encourages balanced builds that can adapt to different situations.

if this change kills tpvp as we know it (it wont), then all the better.

So you are saying that one team managed to do a good cheese start and therefore should automatically win because of that? You are saying that the other team should just lose (even tho they might be even better) just because they got cheesed? No comeback scenarios? No evolving gameplay?

God.. posts like these make me so damn sad..

To be honest Danto, this is pretty much Exactly what you and the rest of the “top players” said about the new ress-timers. You raged, claimed the competitive scene dead etc for a week or so, then you all magically turned around and ended up praising it in the GW2guru broadcast with Jonathan Sharp.

So forgive me if I don’t lay much trust in your sheer theorycrafting conclusions and early hand experience. And no, I don’t consider you top players having the right and obligation to decide what changes/balances will be done. You are allowed your opinion and due to the amount of time you spend in competitive (eh, as close to competitive as one can get with barely any ptPvP community) PvP you might more often than not be on the right track of things, but that does not make your opinion the rule of which to follow.

Just want to end my rather harsh post by saying that I think some of you top players seems like nice guys, and surely are good players. Better than me by a far stretch. But I am getting fed up with this “we top players” talk.. GW2’s top players just seem to fall short in my eyes. Out of all the e-sports/really competitive games I’ve played I must say that GW2’s top players is amongst the most arrogant and inflated ones. Take it down a notch please. I don’t mind hearing your opinion, just the part about how it is your divine right by playtime/experience to decide the development of the game.

TL;DR: No offense but get down from that horse of yours, chillax a bit before making rash doom conclusions. Also, this might be a balance for the worse, I am yet to decide my opinion on it. Although I really see where Anet wants to go with this. And I think the ramifications you mention is a bit on the extreme.

1. There was no rage from any of us about the timers. The only thing we wanted to point out was that it would make it a lot harder for newer players to get into the game without spawn waves, which is true.
2. This new feature will severely damage the PvP streamers and their teams.
3. This feature will prevent any “big plays” scenarios, which are partially what fans would be attracted to.
4. The game will become a lot more boring, to play and to watch.
5. There is an inbalance with and without this feature, but the gains from not having this feature are better than having it. For some professions it’s a good thing, for some other it isn’t in both cases.
6. Nobody is on a high horse here, we are just very alarmed.

I watch your stream/ i play paid turnies/ top 30 Na mesmer/ i switched for speed buff/ i switched neck to tank on my point. The thing is that this forces teams to make a balanced team! and this is good now you cant just switch a necklace or weapons so you can completely counter a persons build that’s not right.

I think Anet made the right decision on this one. Also this will help new players more than veterans. Veterans should not be complaining right now there is still alot of things to do to save your team from losing a game. As far as utility swapping is concerned you can still swap skills. Guess what it’s not only your team that cannot swap anything its the enemy team too so it’s an even game in my eyes. I welcome this change.

A-NET veryyyyyyyyy good decision on your part. Now teams have to criticaly think their strategy and team comp rather than going in there and switching gear/skills to beat the opponent.

I don’t agree that this takes skill out of the game. Opening inventory, double clicking to another weapon using an ability and then double click swap back to exploit the benefit of every other weapon in your arsenal was just clunky and defeated the purpose of having only two weapons to swap between. Weapons should be locked in just like traits are. Good change, I’m all for it.

no one cares about that, its the fact we cant utility and trait swap that matters. Hope everyone enjoys being legitimately hard countered pre match with nothing you can do about it

I’ve seen a random trick shot fly straight up into the air on what looked like the center of the point once or twice, but it only sticks out in my memory because I’ve literally only seen it once or twice, and I thought to myself “Where the heck is that shot going”?

I do like how you insinuated that thieves are somehow knowingly abusing this bug (like the Guardian block bug, which required the player to attempt to get the skill to bug out) rather than just, you know, using one of their better weapons for fighting Mesmers. In fact, against your typical Mesmer, a trick shot attack being eaten up by a node rather than say, a phantasm or clone, would be detrimental.

Quick sidebar, how in the world are you getting hit consistently for 4k by a shortbow? If the shot is indeed bouncing off the cap, you’ll take a maximum of 2 hits (you, the node, you, the node).

If i get hit once by an auto attack its a 2k crit on me, im glass cannon. So 1 shot bouncing off the ground and back to me will do 2x 2k = 4k.

running 3200 attack and 50% crit damage, I don’t see many 2k crits. I guess if I have a couple stacks of might and 25 stacks of bloodlust.

So, when you fight a thief with some power stacks (or 30/30/0/0/10 total glass cannons), they deal 4k to you on double crits. That’s very different than your “every time a thief shoots me with his bow on a point i take 4k” statement. Don’t embellish, it weakens your argument. which is overblown and alarmist to begin with.

I have 912 toughness they have max power/crit damage and bloodlust stacks. I get 3-4k each time. Besides you’re missing the whole point, attacks are bouncing off a capped node which is a bugg.

So this has been going on for too long, i really thought people would have realized by now.

Bouncing attacks are bugged on an enemy capped node.

So lets say im the mesmer and i have my node capped a thief comes in and shortbow auto attacks me, well insted of just oneshot the shortbow projectile bounces off the capped point as if it were an enemy.

So every time i stay on node i take 4k each auto attack insted of normal x1 damage.

I am not stupid i dont have a clone around that i did not see. Im just suprised people let it go this long…… Im sure thives had figured this out long ago but it guess they liked it too much to say anything.

Please fix this asp this bug makes sidepoint mesmer a lot harder than it needs to be.
