New to GW2 Reward vrs Time

GW2 before HoT was pretty good at loot. Loot is very important to these games, even the old text adventures were about finding hidden treasure.

Huh what? GW2 never had good loot! I love this game, but I bet I’m not the only one who regularly chuckled at the two blues and a green my character was rewarded with for risking his life to save the world again. :P

Loot in GW2 is a myth!

All the new outfits are not worth it.

Sci-fi or modern clothing don’t fit the game at all and I’d rather not see them. The occasional silly hat doesn’t bother me that much, and neither does the incidental gimmick item, but full blown outfits that aren’t representative of the GW2 setting should never be added.

These are the first gathering tools I’m tempted to get, but 1000 gems a piece is a bit steep if I have to manually transfer them to whatever character I’m playing. For a convenience item, that’s kinda inconvenient. :P If they were selectable like outfits however…

I’m completely in love with HoT, and I’ve only experienced roughly half of Verdant Brink. I love how you can get completely lost, spot secret tunnels, spiral down pathways and all. I love how I can get jumped by enemies and get my kitten handed to me if I don’t pay attention, finally there’s proper need to use defensive skills in PvE! I love the sense of panic when say, that bullseye appears and you spot like 2 elite snipers all the way in the distance, as if the regular ones weren’t evil enough.

I did two or three missions from the story, it gave me goosebumps. There’s so much conviction and emotion put into the voice acting now, GW2 storytelling has come a loooooong way since those kinda awkward PS/LS1 beginnings, it’s really amazing.

And shock, horror, there’s even a steady stream of actual decent loot and mats!

I liked GW2 already so I expected to like the expansion too, but this kinda blew me away!

New Skins; Anyone know?

Fashion Wars 2 ftw! I know that Bladed skins can be collected in for tokens and gold in Verdant Brink, I got a helmet in a story mission and I saw some others on sale at Itzel merchants. I got some Reclaimed weapons as drops from enemies, also in Verdant Brink. The release notes had quite some info on armour/weapon set locations as well, I suggest to give those a look.

Also I believe that the Tenebrous and Glittering (or something) sets come from the Guild Hall.

Dont bring back old pvp rewards

Yep, tribal was incorrectly named as Masquerade in the PvP locker. Therefore, Masquerade armour used to be a gasp, PvE exclusive. The prestige omg!

Note that there were also a few other super omg mega elite PvP skins that are currently unavailable, like the Heavy Scale (or something). But those look like the low level heavy armours, so that’s probably not much prestige. :P

Hahaha it’s the ‘half a year of notice’ discussion again, featuring the exclusivity police of course. Help, others will be able to wear my super exclusive professional PvP stuff!!!

The best thing, as always, is that no one seems to ask for free handouts but said exclusivity police is immediately trying to make it out like people are.

I should add that I obtained most of those super mega exclusive omgprestige skins myself back in the days. And absolutely not with super elite skilled PvP play, it was only later that I took the time to explore that area of the game. No, a lot of my super awesome exclusive omgprestige skins came from cheap random boxes that could be bought with glory, during the month(?) before the announced PVP/PVE wardrobe merge. Note that the word ‘merge’ does not reply removal of any kind.

Newer players should have a chance to earn those super omg mega prestige elite skins as well. Especially since removing them from the wardrobe was obviously an oversight or bug.

I like the subtle legendaries way more than the ridiculous ‘effects everywhere!!111’ stuff.

On a related note, I think they should get rid of those gaudy footsteps entirely, for all legendaries. Doesn’t really work in a multiplayer game, way too messy.

Reverse Maize Balm Griefing

Gaebriel.3754

I’ve ran into maize balm farmers only once, I didn’t even know it was a thing until a few weeks back. Maybe I did hit the jackpot but they weren’t unpleasant at all, they seemed just like, well normal players playing. After 10 mins or so, people thanked each other for the contribution and each went their way.

I rarely see unpleasant behaviour, apart from the occasional muppet I run into when leveling alts, who yells at me to let an event fail or something, followed by trying to insult me with all kinds of edgy gamer words. In which case I’ll go out of my way to complete said event, since hey that’s how karma works. :P

I’m not that surprised, since people call everything a ‘grind’ these days. Just like the new buzzwords -wall and -gate. :P
Hell, I’ve even seen people call leveling (of all things!) in GW2 a grind.

It’s all in the mindset I think, if you want everything nownownow and go full obsession mode farming 24/7, yes then it probably feels like a grind. Like everything would. Even baking cakes and eating them will feel like a grind when approached in such a manner.

Unusual skins

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gaebriel.3754

Nope, I would absolutely dislike it. All clothing, armour and weapons should make sense in the GW2 setting. This game has a really pretty art style and world design, one of the best ever IMO and I’d like to preserve that. There’s already a small amount of gimmick skins, and I think that’s about enough.

If you want military style characters, there’s already plenty of GW2 appropriate styles you can choose. For example the Seraph, Ministry Guard, Vigil etc.

Remove Dual Weapons Restrictions

More options is always good, but dual shields really? I’ve actually seen this suggested a fair few times, but I think it’s the most ridiculous thing ever. I dunno about you guys, but I logged in, rubbed my shield all over my face, pressed 4 and 5 multiple times and said to myself “we soooo deserve thisssss” …. no…. just me? >_>

I took the new shield for a spin while roaming as a med guard. If you take zeal (for shattered aegis) and are rollin with a party, shield is extremely useful, and actually puts out decent dps due to shattered aegis. The mobile projectile bubble is great for escaping and helping allies escape

Very happy with the shield; it’s a step in the right direction. It could still use some tweaks here and there, but we’ll get to that in time.

Awesome! That’s exactly what I’m gonna do tomorrow (didn’t have time to play today). :P

Though I’m not dusting it off, since it was already strapped to my main’s arm since headstart. Yes, I’m one of those stubborn ones haha. While for competitive stuff I dutifully took a focus (sometimes), whenever I could get away with it I ran around with my shield, since come on, nothing looks and feels more like a guardian than sword/shield!

And now I will do the same everywhere, cackling maniacally, and it will be actually useful omg, I rejoice this change.

If I didn’t live in the EU and had advanced equipment for this, I’d bake them a glorious shield shaped cake with little dancing knight shaped figurines on it. :P

everything below the absolut best is not an option

Haha I know right?

Is it not the absolute best? Then it’s useless.
Does this weapon deal a bit less damage? Then it’s junk.
Does this trait have utility instead of damage? Then it’s worthless.
Do you get hit by a single avoidable attack? Then you’re a scrub.
Running any other build/stat than damage? Then you’re bad and need training wheels.

Don’t forget that no one ever accepts ranger or necromancers never ever ever and everyone does 17 dungeons per hour at maximum efficiency robot speed.

Even better, if you’re not playing at maximum efficiency then you’re with ‘the play-how-you-want crowd’, which means you have either low skill, zero understanding of how the game works or just have resigned to mediocrity in every aspect of your life.

The sky is always falling. Up, down, left, right. No matter which way you look, it always falls.

If I wanted to play an MMO that has healers I would have moved to WOW or other new games out there. I was hoping that these new elite class are gonna provide buffs while staying on track with their main play style because buffs that you can get from another player is more better than having or forcing a dps type to become a healer, the guy who does not have a skill and only focus on healing his teammates following their needs while looking like an idiot in the battle field like a clown?

Lol….you understand that people who will play healers most likely do that because they like to play healers, right? You’re making it sound like damage is the ultimate ‘proper’ much envied battlefield role and that the lowly scrubs who are ‘forced’ into healing their companions are somehow subservient to them because they weren’t skilled enough for a damage role. Bwahahahahaha, sorry that’s nonsense. It’s a bit like the people who think that corner stacking and copying a build from internet makes them super skilled players who never mistime an ability and never die, lol. :P

I’d prefer everything to be available all the time. A fully stocked gem store has much more chance to have stuff I want and in turn tempt me to get something. If I can’t afford something, I simply don’t get it. From a sales viewpoint, I find the decision to remove stuff curious, my experience tells me that revenue from consistent product availability generally trumps that of panic sales, but then again that’s probably different with digital goods.

One of my favourite outfits, the best thing is that with a little dye it can easily be used as regular clothing (it’s like cultural town clothes, yay) instead of wedding-specific stuff.

For me it was worth the gems, since it’s drastically different on each race, it’s like getting several outfits for the price of one, or well a bit more. :p Looks great on everything IMO, though I’m not a fan of the male sylvari variant, but it might be that I just didn’t discover good dye combinations for that yet. I love the Norn variants especially!

Those links are about the removal of Glory, PvP reward chests and the like, giving advance warning to spend your glory before the currency is removed.

It says absolutely nothing about PvP exclusive rewards. On the contrary, it explicitly mentions several times the elimination of the the distinction between PvE and PvP gear so people have the same access to looks no matter what aspect of the game they prefer. That’s entirely in line with people requesting the missing skins.

anyhow places, Voices, mini games, which u only can see/ hear when u join a certain Race or Order would enhance the game play so much.

There’s already stuff like this, but quite subtle. There’s a secret Order of Whispers lodge somewhere in the Shiverpeaks, I believe it was either Lornar’s Pass or Timberline Falls. On my first Norn character passing by, it was just some abandoned house. However, some weeks later I tried to open that door with my other Norn character (who is with the Order of Whispers), having forgotten that it was an unaccessible building. I was amazed when my character recognized some secret symbols at the entrance and could get inside. Then you could pull some hidden lever to reveal an entrance to an underground hideout. I think it had just a merchant or something, but stuff like this is awesome and makes me wonder if there’s more of it.

Gaebriel.3754

I love the F2P model. While I never found GW2 to be empty in the slightest, whenever I’m leveling characters these days the zones are as full as they were around launch, a continuous stream of potential new players is great for the overall health of the game.

I’ve played GW2 since the headstart, and I don’t feel slighted in the slightest by the game now being free. I’ve absolutely gotten my fifty bucks of entertainment from it and I think more people able to try it is great! It’s one of my favourite games, so who would I be to whine at players getting to experience it for the first time?

I think the restrictions aren’t even harsh. Sure you get only two character slots (which admittedly, as an altoholic would give me a near seizure lol), but then again you get a high quality game without paying a cent, and if you decide to buy you get the whole expansion on top of it.

It doesn’t even come close to P2W. You can exchange ingame currency, and if you have a max level character and sell crafting mats, it’s not even an endless grind to save up for something. Ha, with the price of low and mid level wood and ore etc. you can have a steady stream of income while leveling these days. I mean even I manage to earn gold with that and that’s saying a lot. :P

Thanks for the notice! Luckily I already have the armour sets and outfit that I like, the firey stuff doesn’t interest me. I do like some of the finishers, but find the price of 800 gems a bit too steep.

I think that from the business side of it, it’s a bit odd. From a sales perspective on one hand creating urgency is good, but I know from experience that having good availability of products is just as valuable in returns, often even more so.

Since urgency does nothing to me, and I bet I’m not the only customer who’s like that. I’ve liked to get the Roxx quiver since forever but it’s never available when I have gems to spare. If it was, I would’ve bought it ages ago. I don’t mind purchasing a gem card now and then, but I prefer to spend them when I want to, so I’m not likely to buy gems in a hurry for one item. I’d probably buy gems a bit more often if the whole selection was available all the time.

Toxicity in the RP Community

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gaebriel.3754

Gaebriel.3754

Oh I know exactly what you mean. Roleplayers in general come as varied as any other group, there are plenty of nice and welcoming people, at least on EU. I only RP on GW2 occasionally, but I haven’t seen a bad apple myself yet. But the thing is, as far as I’ve seen they often tend to come in extremes. When you meet the proper ones, which thankfully are the majority really, they’re often the nicest and friendliest people you meet in the game. But if you run into a bad apple, run. They can be really really rrrrrreally bad.

In another game, I’m a guild leader of an awesome (dare I say successful) roleplay guild that has been running for 7 years, so I’ve pretty much seen everything. I’ve been threatened, had attempts to ‘blackmail’ me, everything. I can tell you that the nasty stuff I’ve seen roleplayers say or pull off , makes the worst of the PvP trash talk completely pale in comparison. Some take both themselves and this game very very seriously. While of course in-character that’s good, but when it transcends to out-of-character, run. I’ve once had someone find out my email address and write me an essay of about 3 full pages on how I was a monster and didn’t deserve to breathe, haha. All this, because my character refused the romantic advances of another character, lol. I’m pretty immune to bullkitten so I can laugh about stuff like this, but it’s still creepy as hell.

That said, when done in the right spirit, which the majority seems to do really, roleplaying is a fun and cooperative activity especially when you like the GW2 setting and I definitely recommend you keep trying. Just be wary of the obvious red flags and you’ll get there. Good luck!

Never saw that, did they state that they were intended exclusive PvP rewards? Since yes, the skins were exclusively available in PvP that’s true. But did they say it was by design or did you just assume it was? Since it seems unlikely to me that it was exclusive by design, there’s no theme to them. Like zero, they’re just random sets. I mean, compare it to say, the Glorious set or the Twilight Arbour dungeon set. Both are exclusive to certain content (the dungeon set is now as a reward track too, but started out as exclusive to the TA dungeon). Both sets have a common theme in their design that makes them recognizable as being from the content they are earnable from. Now those accidental ‘exclusive’ old PvP sets are just completely random sets. That’s why I don’t think it was intended.

Also PS wise you still get them. About two weeks back I saw the Apostle Coat (only piece from that set available in LS) and Commando thingy as rewards on some alts, so they weren’t removed.

Gaebriel.3754

There was always supposed to be PvP exclusive armors. Of course they mucked it up pretty royally by having there be 2 exclusive light ones and 1 medium with no exclusive heavy armor. But the idea was always there as intended.

Nope. There is a heavy armour set, I believe it’s called Heavy Scale, that also was mistakenly exclusive to the PvP wardrobe. But you don’t hear anyone about that one, since it looks fairly similar to the low level PvE sets so there’s probably no ‘prestige’ attached to it.

The PvP exclusive rewards only came later with Glorious, the Balthazar backpack etc.

The fact that those random old sets didn’t transfer correctly with the merging of the locker into the wardrobe, doesn’t make them intended PvP exclusives. They have zero coherent theme to them, weren’t marked as PvP exclusives anywhere. Some of the ‘exclusive’ sets have random bits scattered around the Personal Story rewards. It’s clearly a bug.

Also in response to another post, I haven’t seen anyone in this thread asking the skins to be handed out freely or being ‘pandered to’, lol.

You couldn’t use their appearance in PvP back in the days.

You could use Tribal skins in PvP back then. Just the name and icons were wrong. The skins were still there.

I think you misread. My sentence referred to the actual Masquerade armour (the ball masque style armour), it wasn’t in the old PvP wardrobe but is usable now.

Due to the misnamed icons, its unavailability in the PvP wardrobe was clearly a mistake, just like the Tribal armour being unavailable in PvE back in the days. The Masquerade set is kinda the ‘counterpart’ to the Tribal armour in my argument for free availability. :P

Best race/prof combo(s)?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gaebriel.3754

I love making thematic and lore-appropriate characters that fit seamlessly into the world, it’s a huge part of the fun for me. Therefore I have quite some self-imposed restrictions on what race/profession combinations I make. And for some I even use racial skills, despite some being less good than their profession counterparts. :P

For me, warriors, thieves, elementalists and necromancers are fair game for any race. I only make human, norn or sylvari guardians. I would never make an asura ranger. I would never make a charr mesmer. I would only make charr, asura or human engineers.

Furthermore, I restrict my norn and sylvari characters from wielding firearms. I would only ever use laser or beam weapons with asura. My human engineers would be restricted to the less advanced, more steampunk styled stuff. All my norn will always use bearform as their elite and nothing else. For every human I make, I decide in advance if they’re of Krytan, Ascalonian, Elonian or Canthan descent and take that into account when determining their skin colour and dressing style.

Also I’m very guilty of using the Battle Roar on my charr warrior instead of the clearly superior For Great Justice…just because it’s awesome to have him go ‘Avenge the Foefire!’ and ‘Charr need no gods!!!’ when heading into battle. :P

Lol, that’s completely ridiculous.

Instead of a walking trophy rack to try and impress people, why not make an actual nice look for your character instead? I mean, sure I could put on a Dragon Helm with Tequatl Holo Wings, an Apostle Robe and Heritage Chest or whatever – it would ‘show the world’ that I was there for two events, accidentally unlocked some old pvp stuff and own GW1 – but I’d look like an eyesore. I don’t understand this kind of thinking at all.

Whoops double post, didn’t know how to quote two users in the same one.

If they bring back old PvP exclusive armor then they need to bring back all the old PvE exclusive items they’ve removed that are exceedingly rare as well and make them just as easy to get your hands on.

I agree, I’m all for bringing old PvE only items to PvP as well. They already did something of that through an extent: for example, the Masquerade Armour wasn’t available in PvP before, and instead the Tribal Armour was incorrectly named as Masquerade Armour in the PvP locker. Nowadays, you can use it in PvP just fine. If I remember correctly, the same is true with legendary weapons. You couldn’t use their appearance in PvP back in the days.

I think there’s nothing wrong with stuff requiring either PvP or PvE to obtain. As long as it’s readily available, or at the least periodically available (such as Halloween themed items).

The longer it takes to come back the better. No point in using it when its not exclusive anymore.

[Suggestion] Support loyal customer,limit f2p

Some ideas on past decisions might be like only giving your real customers some loot drops at the mordrem invasions and only limit f2p accounts on getting no loot. Another little idea would be to limit only f2p accounts on doing blc keyruns and let all your veteran paying customers play the game how it existed for over 3 years.

That’s completely ridiculous. How is an f2p account not a ‘real’ GW2 player? There’s already sensible restrictions in place, there’s no need for skewed ones such as giving no loot to free players. Lol.

Do you like the name Scrapper?(Lore)

Yes, I like it, it fits. The name Forge was obviously a placeholder term, it would be weird if they were called that. It’s not a name that can be attributed to a person.

While a scrapper might be a term in charr society, it’s also a perfectly correct term for a tough close combat fighter. You can’t remove a word just because it has a slang meaning somewhere else. Mind that in lore terms, class names as they are in game do not always exist. It’s just an in game term to allow us to make our characters fit to various archetypes. Classes aren’t always rigid in lore.

I think a good example to explain this discrepancy is: throughout RPG’s there’s an archetype called Thief, or Rogue. Does that mean that such a character would necessarily be called that? Of course not, in most case that would be an insult. They would instead be called assassins, swashbucklers, scouts, brigands and such.

Just like for example a Guardian wouldn’t go ‘oh I’m a Dragonhunter now’ (unless that proves to be a group or faction of course). And neither would it be likely that a Berserker references to himself as one.

I never said you would get a ticket every chest or second chest. I said I was lucky enough in my last 4 opened chests to actually get that many. The person I quoted made it sound like the scraps were rare drops or super rare, in my experience they are not.

Ah whoops I must have worded that badly then, since I’ve actually been quite lucky with those scraps myself! I’ve often had chests with two in them. I meant that apart from the scraps, I don’t find the chests’ other contents worth the effort of repeated farming the keys. Since from my experience, zone completions or alt character story steps (I like leveling characters :P) get me those things at a slow but steady rate already.

If I remember correctly I own five BL weapons and have three tickets in my bank. Once I’ve bought a 20-pack of keys just for giggles and excitement, and to convince myself it wasn’t worth it haha. Then I bought the 5-pack for 100 gems last week. The rest of my keys has basically been from from personal story and most often map completion. I remember a key dropping for me twice, since the start. Of course both chests contained nothing haha, one of them was before the scraps even existed. :P

Now as an altoholic I do have quite some characters (whenever I have gold I convert, I’ve amassed 26 over the years haha), so that might help me in my case, since I have characters at all levels of the game. Though I’m not a super hardcore player, so I guess my way of earning keys is way too slow for some. But for me, zone completion while leveling has definitely been the most enjoyable way to obtain those scraps.

I never keyfarm and never will, so I don’t really have an opinion on it.

But what I always wondered, why do people put so much effort into something that is almost guaranteed to reward you with random junk? I mean, you’ve seen what’s in those chests lol. You gotta have an empty character slot, powerlevel with tomes or crafts and then play through all the story steps, most likely for a booster, a dye and a common mini…and then repeat it. I’d go nuts. I would’ve lost my love for GW2 in a week like that. For the cool BL stuff like hair kits etc, isn’t it far easier to farm some mats, sell and convert? I mean, look at the low level mats prices, find like 10 level 20-30ish trees and you basically got 1g. :P

For me the change sounds like a good thing. Apart from story steps, I usually get my own keys by zone completions, and recently I often seem to get a key at the end.

GW1 still worth it?

I discovered GW1 because of GW2 and slowly playing through it, I love it. It’s a different kind of game (while also having similarities), but the atmosphere is the same, Tyria FTW.

I think graphics wise it has aged quite well. It’s obviously not as superomgpretty as GW2, but I think it looks good. I’d say give it a try!

Though the camera sometimes drives me crazy, the way it tends to creep up or down while hitting a wall when zooming out, aaaaaaargh!
