I didn’t find them flirty in the slightest, it’s more that Canach was being very cheeky and a bit of a suave rogue. And Mesmer’s are naturally alluring, I guess. :P

I love these new weapons! Especially because they look subtle and elegant. I usually rrreally dislike the stuff with lots of glow, since usually they also involve weird shapes and sparkles (such as the Molten weapons) but these ones are brilliant! Glad that I saved my tickets, definitely picking up something for my Guardian.

Huh? I think I’ve absorbed every bit of dialogue from the new episode I could, but I didn’t really notice any lesbian couple? In any case it’s not a big deal anyways, I mean there are plenty of straight couple background NPC’s throughout the game too, I mean who cares. :P

Gaebriel.3754

This is my favourite episode of season 2 yet! Every part of it was amazing really. I loved the investigation of the party and the various bits of dialogue from the foppish nobles with their scandalous gossip. It inspired me to do the whole thing walking, took me quite some time! ^^ I think the dialogues were very well written/voiced throughout the episode. I like it that several characters really sound distressed in their respective parts, that adds so much atmosphere. I loved how Taimi did something stupid and childish (very much in-character for her) and got into trouble because of it! Even Trehearne didn’t make me go aaargh.

Boss battles had cool mechanics and the end boss looked especially awesome! The cinematic vision was gorgeous and mysterious. I loved all the little lore details, such as Knut Whitebear emphasizing that he didn’t command an army but instead had to convince the Norn that they would earn great reknown by fighting against Mordremoth. Or that in the end battle some racial leaders had their guard protecting them, while the Norn and Charr leaders with their more warrior-oriented cultures were first into the fray themselves! Also addressing the various leaders’ concerns was really nice. And the newest part of Dry Top is gorgeous as ever.

To top that off, the new BL weapons are awesome! I usually dislike weapons with too much glowy effects such as the Molten stuff, but these new ones are quite subtle and look kind of holy, definitely picking one up for my Guardian!

No more Junk items

Gaebriel.3754

I wouldn’t like them to get rid of them and just turn it into some instant reward, that’s horrible! Silly as it may sound, junk items are a kind of flavour item. GW2 being an RPG, small stuff like that serves to define the setting and atmosphere. When you kill a bandit, you sometimes get a broken lockpick. When you kill a wolf, a broken fang or patch of fur. Sometimes it makes less sense! Perhaps you kill a corrupt Ministry Guard in that Harathi event, and he leaves a lockpick! How did he get it? Was he a former bandit? If so, was he a White Mantle affiliated bandit perhaps? Or did he merely take it from a bandit he arrested/killed recently?

That’s odd, it works perfectly fine for me. My 2 main characters have about 4 bank tabs of armour sets combined (and mostly the same stat combos too, haha yes I’m vain), and the dyes have been saved to the armour since when I started playing, at launch.

Failing an event on purpose goes against my heroic video game instinct haha, that just doesn’t feel right! It makes me shake my head and chuckle, just like like seeing a commander called xXXSephirothXXxx Blackbloodhellstrifedeathwar going ‘omg stack on me!!!1111 kitten ’ during a basic champion fight in an early level zone.

I can’t bring myself to ever participate in stuff like that. If it becomes too prevalent I hope they kill it like the Queensdale zerg. :P

Why is everyone so obsessed with legendary?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gaebriel.3754

Gaebriel.3754

I’m quite the fashion collector, but I never saw the appeal of the legendaries either. While all of their models are definitely well made, I only like the looks of about one third of them. Furthermore, I wouldn’t want my characters’ carefully crafted looks be overshadowed by a bunch of super flashy special effects!

For me they’re absolutely not worth the massive effort it takes to acquire them, let alone the sheer amount of gold and materials needed. By not pursuing a legendary, my gold is free to spend on tons of other pretty stuff. I’ve never been into the whole status symbol gear either, an ugly mace is still an ugly mace even if it dropped from the most difficult boss ever. :P

I’d prefer to just see the temporary weapon skins added permanently. I only buy them if I like them (duh) and have a perfectly suitable character for it, so the rush offers are wasted on me anyways, it’s just inconvenient. :P

CDI return?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gaebriel.3754

Gaebriel.3754

I liked the CDI’s as well, my guess is they’ll do it again near the end of the season, like last time. Or maybe later, since a huuuge number of useful suggestions came up in the last one (and that’s just the parts I read, from the summaries), some of which I noticed already being in the new season.

It’s of course always a guess if those features (like the new story journal) truly came from our CDI suggestions and not from ideas they already had in mind, but it was nice to see them coincide and implemented anyways.

Gaebriel.3754

Actually, that crown bit was refered to by Rytlock before the mission. Sure, a bit tailored to being doable in an episode, but it was still there and properly explained! According to his dialogue, he found the first piece himself “after years of research for the proper elements to break the curse” and said that the pieces attracted each other, that’s how you knew the locations. Also he mentioned that they were made not to be noticed, as a safeguard to falling into the wrong hands. To me that sounds like an enchantment of sorts was placed on them.

Trahearne

in Living World

Posted by: Gaebriel.3754

Gaebriel.3754

Actually I hope that they continue their improvement in storywriting from this season and redeem Trehearne somewhat, making him more believable.

I mean I disliked him as much as everyone else, but mainly because he seemed absolutely miscast in a leader role. Especially when he is giving his speeches, he just doesn’t sound like an inspirational leader that rallies the Pact into battle against an terrifying enemy. It would have been so much better if he retained his scholar role instead of being everything at once. I don’t think his voice acting and dialogue lines are horrible (well some are, but definitely not all), it’s just not the voice of one in command.

I’m not someone who likes gambling on keys, but I couldn’t not have a shot at such a fashionable prize! So I just gave it a try and grabbed a gem card + some gold exchange for the Zephirite pack and a BLK pack. Of course I didn’t get the hairstyle kit, but I was surprised at my luck, I received a total of 4 weapon tickets (3 whole ones and some scraps), 5 regular hair kits, some miniatures, level-up boosts and salvage kits.

Usually whenever I get a key it’s all rubbish, so I was quite satisfied with this! I think it helped that I chose to open them with my elementalist alt who picked Lyssa in the storyline, under the Lyssa statue in Divinity’s Reach, I mean she’s the goddess of fashion!

Although I may possibly be the only person to make ascended armor for the skin.

I do that too! I finished my Cleric’s Greatsword (white and gold) just after the wardrobe patch, otherwise I would have transmuted it onto an exotic sword with a stat combination suiting my build. :P Armour wise, for me it’s the heavy legs and chest that I’m working on for a future shiny set. Many of the ascended pieces look really nice when combined!

I liked that they brought back some characters from the original PS, and I must say I was very pleased with Braham’s voice acting for once. I never liked him and was kind of certain I would never like him ever, but finally he had some personality in his lines and acting, to my great surprise! Great job there! Also being a bit of a lore geek I was holding my breath how they would resolve that Curse of Ascalon thing since I was afraid they’d screw it up, but again I was very pleasantly surprised! :-D

Gaebriel.3754

From the top of my head, I like Eir’s Longbow, the Aureate Longbow, the Bow of the White Heart, the Ebon Vanguard Longbow .. and more. But that’s what I like, don’t know what you think is ‘worth getting’.

Heavy armour for male human (which is my main), I like for example kitten, T3, Phalanx, Vigil, Whispers, Caudecus’ Manor, Ascalonian Catacombs and a lot more.

It depends on your definition of endgame armours. If that is spikey with skulls, flames and lots of super flashy glowing crap, then I’m rather glad that GW2’s armour generally doesn’t look like that.

Aetherblade has an Aetherblade inspired steampunk theme, I think it looks rather excellent. It’s not my character’s style at all, but it’s definitely not ugly.

The Rampart armour, I thought it was hideous when I first saw it. Then a few weeks ago, I saw a player using most of the set (chest/shoulders/gloves at the least), with amazing dye combinations – suddenly it looked stunning! I still don’t like the helm though. :P

Never understood the appeal for those either. Only rarely do I see an actually nice looking set incorporating the wings, usually people ruin perfectly good looks with those horrible flappy things! Though at least it’s slightly better than those tentacles, I can’t imagine why people want that on a character. :P

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gaebriel.3754

Not much choices? Ehm .. we have kind of a lot of different skins available. :P

About the dyes: sometimes there are colour differences between armour pieces, the trick is to find a lighter or darker shade and use that one for that specific piece, since they can colour differently on different surfaces. Definitely doable, I do it all the time.

Funnily enough, the sets you find decent like CoF are the ones I tend to think of as unrealistic ‘kitten’ full abyss spikey flame skull anime sets, while the ones you find awful like AC and CM, are the ones I think are awesome!

Wow that’s just terrible behaviour, I really dislike it when I hear of windbags like those. I’ve never bought or sold dungeon paths myself, but it sounds like a totally legit way of earning gold, indeed a bit like the outpost runners in GW1.

Since it sounds like quite a popular phenomenon, it would actually be a cool QoL thing if it was acknowledged in a way, with an interface designed for it. A bit like a trading post or notice board, where runners could advertise their path and price and buyers could purchase it. The gold would then be awarded to the runner after the completion of the path.

True, I thought the same, Ronin. But as a Tribunal he is also a Charr in a position of much responsibility. LS2 Ep 3, Rytlock > Foefire

in Lore

Posted by: Gaebriel.3754

Gaebriel.3754

On the other hand, it could also be interpreted as showing the Charr’s practical nature. Since vines apparently appear somewhere in Ascalon, I can imagine that they would rather not fight three very major threats: the Ascalonian ghosts, the Branded and now also Mordremoth’s minions. Sometimes desperate situations require desperate measures, here represented by a magical sword used by a race that frowns upon it.

You don’t necessarily have to ignore the story for RP purposes, just make sure you basically don’t strike the killing blow. I think there’s nothing wrong with roleplayers who for example, were with the Pact (amongst others of course) at Zhaitans defeat. There are quite some ways to elegantly incorporate (parts of) the main storyline into a character’s experiences.

though going by my contact with a certain RPer yesterday, they dismiss stuff such as “lore” and “logic” in order to fit their weird story. i pointed out to them that sylvaris don’t have surnames, they got mad that i didn’t know the backstory, and that when the sylvari was a child it got adopted by a family of humans.

…sure.

Hahaha oh dear, I never understood the appeal that the ‘adopted by super unlikely parents’ has to some people. Judgemental as I am, I bet that roleplayer is also inclined to ‘hug fluffy charr’ on an alarmingly regular basis, in 5 cringeworthy paragraphs at the least. :P

Yep, roleplayers commonly skip the very specific things from the story, such as becoming Pact Commander and such, for the sake of variety, continuity and fitting better with the setting and other characters. Though I don’t see how it would make sense to have a taboo surrounding Omadd’s machine, I mean it’s clearly there. Using it is another thing though, since I can imagine that after its discovery, people wouldn’t be allowed to like, jump into it just like that.

If you are roleplaying a Priory scholar or Asura scientist who wishes to conduct research on the thing, you can easily avoid awkward situations by failing to uncover how it works (since we don’t have much info yet). It’s all about the journey, and a character’s actions absolutely don’t have to be successful to make an enjoyable storyline.

Don’t they already do this irregularly? I’ve occasionally bought a gem card, and I remember that several times I got a mail a few weeks later, with a ‘thank you for supporting GW2 during <insert yearly quarter>’ note and a free goodie. I got a free kite somewhere last year when they just came out (around the time of the Zephyrites’ first appearance I think), once I got a total makeover kit and something else, also a hairstyle kit and 2 keys or so if I remember correctly (and no, of course the BL chests didn’t contain anything useful, haha). Each time the free goodie was worth about 300-400 gems. I thought it quite nice a gesture, especially since it seemed fairly random, it wasn’t an announced incentive thingy like that sparkling cat.

+1 for more revealing male armor
+1 for more concealing female armor

As far as heavy and medium armor goes, I’d say the majority of armor sets in game are pretty concealing.

but what good is that for light wearers?

we need more of both, and it would be fantastic if we could choose which option we want..the male or female version of an outfit.

That I agree with, more choice is always better! :-D

Though you can make pretty covered outfits with light armour as well, just check the wardrobe and mix and match a bit.^^

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’ve got no problems with exclusive PvP armour sets, but I think the Tribal set only served that purpose by accident.

Since it was labeled as Masquerade armour in the old PvP locker, its ‘exclusivity’ seemed more of an oversight than anything else. The same goes the other way, with the Masquerade set from PvE not being in the PvP locker previously.

Besides, it would be odd if there’s an exclusive PvP light set but no heavy one.
