I was in a game earlier today, we were 300 points behind with 100 to go to end it, our thief AFK’s. Instantly another player starts raging that he is costing us the game.
I think people get so upset at losing that they lose sight of whats really happening and just start raging and pointing fingers. The raging player was also the least valuable, kinda ironic. I joined the thief for the last 30 sec.

Once again, we have individual players who get reported multiple times hours apart today, yesterday, last week and nothing is done. I’m not even talking about people “no use in not afking because we can’t save a pip mode.” I’m talking people running out to the map, sitting and just afking. I know you wanted to move the entire Dev team to raids, but keeping at least one person watching reports would be cool.

This PvP season has been a blast. I made a whole thread on it. Today, even with logging to take breaks for hours at a time, I’m running into the same 4 people afking. If I’m going to lose, at least make it fun.

Give the players decent matchups and many of them will just stop afking. The reason ANet is not able to ban the afkers is proable because their are more players that afk during kittenty stomp fests then there are players actually playing the game mode right now.

Yall kept pushing highly lop sided match apond them. Now they push afking on yall. I think it’s a fair trade, don’t you?

People are already upset. This thread has nothing to do with it ;D

People are upset because their favorite builds keep getting nerfed to the point that they can’t use them anymore, so of course they are gonna get more upset whenever people suggest they continue getting nerfed, you’re just throwing fuel onto the already blazing inferno. If anything we need buffs not more nerfs. I’d suggest buffing all the core skills & traits that haven’t been used by anyone in ages… and leaving it buffed not continuing with this merry -go-round of oh lets nerf then buff then nerf then buff then nerf even more. And put back all the amulets and runes that got removed over the years so we can have more viable builds.

More viable builds? So you really think anyone would run anything else than durability runes revs, bunker sentinels mesmer, and healing ele if those amulets and runes came back? Thats just silly.

Instead I’d like to nerf forum salt. It’s causing so many tears they’re overflowing into PM’s.

Easy access to boons at any time, self and AoE;
Plenty cc’s;

Not always. The matchmaker is completely kitten, after all. But by afking they destroy the small chance of salvaging the game for others. And by afking, instead of disconnecting, they also make sure that their teammates (whom they left hanging) will share their pip loss.
Seriously, if they really don’t want to play the game, they should at least have the decency to disconnect.

And to answer the few people above that defend this, no, matchmaker being broken does not justify kittening your teammates over just for the sake of your convenience.

That is your way to see things. Why the players afking have to salvage your mistakes? Why can’t they learn and not make matches need a salvage/carry from people who just don’t have patience for it anymore?
The way you see, the afkers left the team hanging. The way the afkers see, the people constantly making mistakes and not improving their gameplay/rotations are the ones leaving the team hanging.

matchmaker being broken does not justify kittening your teammates over by your individual poor gameplay/rotations due to your lack of experience just for the sake of your convenience

Just don’t play pvp if u are gonna afk or dc. Leave the game move on to something else. You shouldn’t play a game u hate so much that u are gonna drag down 4 innoncent players with you intentionally. You bought the game, U know that u face randoms and play with them. U know that u will be better and worse then other players, same applies for the enemy team. If u play the game u better accept that first. this is your responsibility not thiers. They have accepted that hard truth. You should do so as well or get out.

Last season u could keep fighting cause if u had enough points then u wouldnt lose a pip and u could actually won a pip, but now if u lose 500- 5 or 500- 499 there is no diference.

No one is going to afk if they think they are or have a chance to win.
Dont think the player that is going to afk when u are losing 300- 70 that is punishing 4 inocent players, this afk player that u think hes the reason u not going to win hes actually helping the game to end faster.

Then litterally afk after the opening fight at mid. This is unforgivable. Players that let the game end because they think it’s gonna end quicker are harming the team way more then 4 noobs could do. fights are outnumbered, holding points get harder, forcing decaps gets harder. And espically if that guy that AFK get’s kittening wiped before me in my case. People have no justifcation for afk’ing. Spitefull behaviour it is. And yes the 4 players are innoncent. Who the hell are you or anybody to determine how good a player should be in a game? They paid for the game just as you did, they like you are better then others and also share the burden of having to play with people below their level. Not even the best matchmaking system will save u from blowout matches 100 percent of the time. If U don’t want to accept the consequences of playing with people beneath your level besides playing in a game with kittenING RANDOMS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD THEN THIS IS YOUR kittenING FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You made your own rules, impose them on others and then kittening blame the other players? then kittening spoil the game for the other 4 because they don’t follow it? I will say it again. Don’t play the game. Or make your own premade.

I assume you have <1000 PvP ranked matches and are struggling to get that shiny backpiece because people afk in your matches. Did I get it right?

I could start a match and die once at a point, throw my hands in the air and say “we lost gg” and then afk for the next 495 points, and it is no different than when you quit at 300. Whether you afk’d at 5 points or 300, you are still throwing the match by refusing to play.

Like I said, throw your tantrum somewhere else.

It depends. Very situational. What class did you die 1v1? what class did you die to? were you supposed to be on that point? what is your class’ role on that team comp? how many caps your team have? whats the score? who else is dead/alive from both team?
If you did the wrong choice for any of those questions, then yeah you can go afk or not go afk, you re irrelevant and the result will be the same either way. Your team gonna lose.
And no one else should be forced to put up with that.

If you truly feel that way, then desert the game and take your dishonor. Don’t punish the rest of us by sitting there doing nothing.

Funny as we all pvf here, it just happened in a match for me. In diamond.

Game starts, we split mid home.
We go, fight, some people die, some people don’t, etc etc.
Eventually around 200~ points to each team, close game, our team start dying mid, we lose the fight.
They gonna have an ele bunkering it, so I decided that the best rotation was to play sides.
I respawn, push far. Start fighting a necro, when a second enemy comes, a thief. We fight for few moments, I downed both 1v2, killed both.
Only then my teamate engi arrives, see both guys dead, turn his back and leaves me with 10% hp, deathshroud on cd, against a revenant that just had arrived with 100% hp.

This is the type of mistake that costs matches. This is why people afk. I didn’t afk after it because we got the lead on points out of that and eventually won. But I’m sure as hell that guy, that one engi who saw me win a 1v2 and left me to die against a third player, does not deserve to win that match at all. That guy is not an innocent. That guy is the type of player that is the reason of experienced players decide to go afk.

If you go afk because you’re down in points, don’t like your team, whatever reason, let’s just get this straight:

You are children. You are the teammate nobody will ever want on their team. Nobody respects you. You are not a good player and you should not be allowed back into ranked matches until after a significant time out. You do not deserve your teammates who try their best to win.

When we were down 460-350 a couple days back, we rallied and killed lord, winning 510-492. If people like you had been on our team, people that gave up and went afk, we would have lost that match. Throw your tantrum elsewhere, we shouldn’t have to suffer for it.

I know its hard for u too undertand, but even trying your best there is games that u are not going to win, because all your team is heavy counter by the other , u lose all team fights, u have no capps and they are wining like 300- 70 .
U are just feeding 1 by 1 , u just cant win such games, and players like u can just see they are lost when the game is 490- 100 and other players can see it when there is 300- 70.
Ofc dont get me wrong i have won games that i was losing 300- 70 and i kep playing , but again thats because i know that we had a bad start and we over rotate and 1 of us had to afk like 30 seconds or wtv, but i could see we were wining team fights easy, and good rotation and peeling..etc etc.
But again i tell u , you need to look at the full picture, and understand the situation, can u win? Do u have a chance?
If u have the skill to be able to call gg at 300-70 then u know why your team mate is afk if u cant then for u hes the reason u not gonna win.
The MM is far from perfect and the skill between player in the same team some times its huge, and this is why some afk and some dont.

It’s not hard for me to understand at all. Let me put it another way: are you still trying to improve? Could you get any better?

If your answer is yes, then go back out there and keep fighting. Keep trying to win those 1v2s or 1v3s. Look for strategic openings to capture points. Work on your rotations. Work on your map awareness. Learn your strengths and weaknesses.

Even if you are absolutely sure you are losing because you have a bad team, use the time to practice. As good as you think you may be, there is always someone better, and always a higher level of skill to strive for. And there is no better time to improve than being impossibly outmatched.

Most importantly, just have fun. I used to be guilty of raging at team members before I learned to chill out. If you’re not down with the whole practice thing, do silly stuff like seek out a 1v1 and dance on their corpse if you clinch it. Win, lose, if you’re angry at the game, you’re not having fun, and that’s no way to play.

Im sorry mate but after 24 000 + pvp games i can tell u i trained enough and probly reach the best i can be already .

I go afk when we start losing a lot, like 200-300 points down and it’s obviously a lost cause I’ll go afk. The faster it finishes the better I can move onto the next game. I never afk after 1 team wipe or 2 though.

A lot of people refuse to believe that the game is unwinnable and that there could be ‘comebacks’ but 99% of the time it’s not gonna happen and I generally can’t be bothered tryharding just to carry some guys who imo don’t deserve the win anyway.

I don´t know that to say. After thousands hours of gameplay u just see and feel if ur team can turn the tide or not because u have the kittening experience and are aware of the mini map and skill of ur team members,too.

Example. Match starts: Double DH on team without necro, thief and ele and DH are not willing to relogg, i say gg before the match starts if enemy team has ele Nekro and so on. Goin afk would be the faster method here and every experienced player should see this.

Other example: Foefire – > Group wipes mid cause thief tried to battle far and lost this at the beginning, so 1-3-1 vs. 1-4-0. Far lost mid lost, match lost. Snowball effect

So, as an experienced Player u think now. Ok thief went far and should´ve win this cause otherwise it makes no sense to weaken ur team in mid.

He lost it as thief, so he must be a noob. Thief don´t die if they realizes they can´t win a 1 vs 1 . Return to mid and help ur members but he didn´t. So its actually a 4 vs 5.

U relizes that ur team can´t handle a 3 vs 4 mid so blame the thief what he´s kittening doing and blame him for being a nobb? Or going afk? Or be slaughtered again and again and again?

What are u going to do?

Pretty much this.

Ele first to die on mid fight;
Thieves dying 1v1;
Only ele on team swap to engi and says “going far”;
Guy rushes lord after 2 minutes of match started;
etc etc

There are many situations that happen at the start of the match and by your experience you just can tell it is not worth your time/effort of trying. Everyone should be able to carry their own weight and do their class’ job, if they can’t, I don’t see a reason for trying hard.

Not sure if this is really concerning to the matchmaking issue or if it adds to it, but yesterday after a 13 minutes queue, I got into a match with 4 legends + 1 diamond against 4 diamonds + 1 ruby. Me being one of the legends. We won something around 500 × 200~. I don’t really think that was the best matchmaking distribution that could’ve happened with those 10 individuals.. rip

This would happen if their were not a lot of ellibile players, just 10 between legend and ruby crrently ready to go. So then it expands till it finds 10 players, sorts them by MMR and makes the teams. As it turns out either the ruby or the diamond had a better MMR then four of the legends. Perfectly reasonable* given a team of legends that had been on a loosing streak vs. other legends (as their MMR could have dropped below the ruby/diamonds).

Anyway this can happen without it being an error.

I honestly don’t believe that is how it happened. I know for a fact that at least me and one other legend were in a win streak. We got placed on same team earlier on and we won.

Perfect PvP map: A plain and open area, with no obstacles, no way to LoS, no conquest, no capping points, no side objectives, no using environment. Straight up Death Match. Each kill = 25 points, insta respawn. That’s what Player vs Player is, not the current “Player using the environment+Build Wars 2+Comp Wars 2” vs “Player using the environment+Build Wars 2+Comp Wars 2”.

The results turned out more mixed than we think will be good for the future health of the game. For that reason we are going to run a “Remove Desert Borderlands?” poll first and then run a variation of this poll again. The updated poll will be reworded for clarification due to large amounts of feedback that many of the ‘No’ votes were cast with a misunderstanding of what they meant.

How about we have a poll to “rework or remove dbl” instead?

What rework would u possibly want? they made it easier to navigate beaquse apparently peep have alzheimers who play wvw and forget where to run. They removed the meta event, yes it caused major lag for all parties. Yes they could make north towers position more strategic but why would that be a problem, the vocal cry baby minority only likes to fight on open fields with no structures so why do they care.

Always fun when you pop your head out of eotm every few weeks to spew random insults that highlight your lack of understanding.

You must mistake me for someone else, I havent played eotm for 1½ years. Its a nice map tho, argueably better then desert but way better better then stale depressing alpine.

You obviously are not aware of the common complaints with the map.

The common complaints are are that the northern towers strategic position is irrelevant, why do the crybabies even care, dont you guys prefer fighting on open stale grassfields with no structures? Unless you crybabies still have alzheimers and a ahrd time navigating I dont see what the complaints are, thank you, please enlighten

The other day I saw a post made by an experienced WvW commander, which kinda encouraged me to make this one of my own. I see that ANet is working towards fixing and making WvW better, in a slow pace, but still doing much more than they ever did in the past years, and thats really nice! Thanks ANet for that. So during this time of work being done, I figured would be nice to suggest a couple things that could be taken into account while working towards these new changes.
I won’t mention some obvious things that people already said before, just for the sake of not ranting or repeating things over and over again, such as alpine > desert bl’s etc. I have always been in WvW guilds, 6k+ hours of WvW played, zerging, blobing, roaming, small ops, havoc, bloodlust, commanding, scouting, hardcore ppting and currently focusing on fighting. I do not express the opinions of my current guild, neither do I speak for them. But I’m sure that many other veteran WvWers share these same concerns.

  • SIEGE
    I believe that defensive siege is the most annoying factor that makes fighting guilds and players to deslike fights around structures and the PPT game. The siege abuse makes fights completely unfair and/or unsustainable. Its obvious that defensive siege is part of environment that WvW comprehends, but a balance needs to be addressed towards it. How about using the “outnumbered” buff for it? Make the buff to be structure based, instead of map based, taking into account the number of players involved on the attacking/defending event. If the attackers outnumber the defenders by 1.5+:1 ratio, the defenders are able to use siege. That would prevent the siege abuse that ruins so many fights so often. Other than that, couple other suggestions could be taken into consideration, such as reducing the dmg done to players, increasing the dmg done to enemy siege; reduce the siege cap on structures; reduce the condition dmg/duration done by siege. Of course these are just suggestions, since I don’t have knowledge about programming, and i’m not sure how possible/viable these changes would be to code. Thats up to you guys from ANet to tell me.
  • Annoyance vs Challenge
    I really hope I am not jumping into silly conclusions here, but I believe that WvWers play WvW to fight and compete against another players, not the environment. WvW is a PvP game mode. When you start bringing too many elements from the environment into fights, you are taking away the purpose of Player vs Player, and making it less fun. I believe that what we WvWers consider challenging, is fighting skilled or bigger groups, not champion bosses full of mechanics and hp; not fighting in a surrounding that constantly applies cc’s on your group; not having to deal with navigating issues; not having to be worried if a meta event (that pretty much no one cares to do unless to get rid of the huge lag for the entire map) is about to start. We do understand the dev team took time to work and design champions and areas with proper mechanics, but honestly, thats not why we play WvW. Even if those mechanics meant a challenge to the players, thats really not the type of challenge we are there for, so it turns into just annoyance. There are plenty of challenge environment and content in PvE Raids, if we choose to have WvW game mode as our main source of fun in Gw2, means we do not care about challenging annoying environment. Again, what is challenging for us, is the quality of the fight, the quality of our enemies, thats the type of challenge we want. Which kinda leads to next point…

    In such standardized situations, with many players from different classes involved, where group/builds synergy matters a lot and can make the diference between winning or losing a fight, I personally believe (I hope more of us agree) that the more you add RNG and passive factors to it, the less you are relying on individual/group skill, and it takes the purpose of trying to win a fight. I do understand that classes balance needs to take all three game modes into consideration, and its impossible to make everyone happy.

I believe I dont need to mention rewards, small groups issues on the huge new maps, small guilds issues towards claiming objectives, etc because would just sound as a broken record and many of other experienced players gave good suggestions to fix those issues.

First post on forums ever but had to ensure there was enough positive vibes to ensure you are not discouraged by the toxic vibe a select few are throwing in here.

All these changes make sense and are worth committing. Don’t let the new breed of toxic player base stop you from working with this community to tweak the game.

As someone who’s played this game since release for only WvW and PvP I appreciate hearing you guys mention caring about something besides PVE. Thanks!

Thanks for bringing these changes up for feedback, before releasing them. The majority of the WvW community is grateful for it, its a good step in the right direction. The changes in support of smaller groups was really needed and might help making the new maps less desertly populated…

PPK is a really good change. Should never been removed from WvW. Any type of support to the fighting side of WvW is really appreciated. Same for the downed state cap reduced.

Some people brought a lot of good thoughts here, that would definitely be worth having a deep look into it, and trying to get it to work in a better and more fun way during fights, without being unbalanced. Keeping it short:
- Stability Stacks
- Boons Removal determined by RNG
- Siege Cap/Abuse
- Guild Buffs (in the future, when more guilds gets higher lvls, some buffs might become abusive)
- Pirate Ship meta isnt fun
- REWARDS
^ emphasis on this last one. Good rewards, based on player efforts and skill, are the real motivation on any game mode, and so far, after 3 years we still get blues and greens and a really low chance of ascended armor that can be obtained by many other ways.
Across the time, ANet improved their rewarding system for both PvE and PvP game types, but done nothing about WvW. That said, you gotta keep in mind that rewarding system in WvW needs to be very well designed, to avoid the exploit and “grind mentality” of players from another game modes, coming just for the rewards and not caring to participate on the real WvW experience.

Anyway, thanks again ANet, Gaile Gray and Reyana.. Keep it up, listen to the good feedback

How is this going to balance the nearly spam-able team wide distortion and blur that are non removable, non corrupt-able, non counter-able invulnerabilities?

Doesn’t shocking aura interrupt things while blurred, still? And retal?

Good luck killing a sentinels mesmer with retaliation damage..

T1 gets bored so they decide to try to push a t2 server up which in turn causes a mass of gvg guilds to leave from all 3 t2 servers to t3, ruining what t3 had in the process. They screwed everyone over just cuz they were bored.

T1 BGBL is a map that people have been avoiding because it is significantly laggier than other borderlands for some reason

Last week and this week, the server with the xxx.xxx.162:xxx /ip address was the most laggy, and currently that is the t1 bgbl

Green bl, as I reported before. Same thing from last week, green bl the most laging borderland.

Good job ANet. You didnt even fix the bug fest from the Feature Patch and your already announcing that another bug fest is coming. Please no. Can you delay it at least? Like till 4th Dec? Let us enjoy the game a little bit. Since last patch, my game crashed 9 times and full closed itself another 7 times at least (i stoped counting).

Hm.. It depends on what class and build you re playing.
But in a fast answer, if you re playing as Eng, any class is easy to 1v1; and, no matter what class you re playing, the hardest one to 1v1 is Engs.

It has come to the point that as WvW has not received real updates since launch that we ourselves would not mind doing the testing.

I can appreciate that many people don’t like EotM, but don’t conflate a lack of updates that you personally like with a lack of updates. WvW has added a great deal of content and rewards over just the last calendar year.

Hopefully you will find more you like in future updates and we’ll continue to add to the game.

Talking about EotM being a WvW update is just silly. Dont get me wrong, but EotM have NOTHING to do with WvW.

EotM have close to non existent impact in real matchups. Actually, EotM drain players from the game mode to a big and pointless free for all.

EotM have nothing to do with the weekly matchup. No server rivalry, no real score system to the real matchup… EotM means close to nothing to WvW scene.

How can you say that “World vs World vs World” has added a great deal of content when you drain players from the game mode to a map where the “worlds” (AkA servers) are not there?

Seriously.. when I see a comment like this it just makes clear how ANET deals with wvw scene.
And what to say about megaservers and how it hurts the recruitment scene in general?
And the lack of support to GvGs on the game called GUILD WARS? (dont try to fool anyone with Obsidiam Sanctum, we need a real game mode that allows guilds to fight across tiers)

really… i was thinking the same, how can you talk of wvwvw map with this map out PPT? out of the system? its a FFA pve map. if so , put that in the PPT and we will start see what change. At least you can say you are working on PTT tweaking.

Thanks God I’m not the only one thinking that way. EotM was suppose to improve the WvW experience, to bring something new. Instead of that, EotM is a place for pvers farming karma and low levels. It’s a huge karma training, nothing else. Why? Why waste almost one year to make something new about WvW, that became pve stuff after one month. I mean, it would be way more easier just make a new way to give people karma. Add a massive amount of karma as a reward for world bosses/temples, nerf the karma given on WvW. I see WvW players with legendaries and more than useless 5 million karma. WvW players are not there for karma, they are there for fun, for winnings, for ppt, or even for just good fights. This simple solution would keep the pvers on the pve.
We bought the game just like all the pvers and pvprs did. We buy gems with real money too. So why does it takes almost a year to give us something new (something that at the end it’s just a new pve grind tool) while you release a new pve content every two weeks. ANet do organize and promote a PvP tournament awarding legendaries, precursors, black lion tickets, while seasons (that makes us put 7 – 9 weeks of effort) gives awesome greens, a tittle that all the meta grinder pvers have, an old skin with a new shinie that tooks two weeks after the season end to be really accessible.
