Stealth broken since the patch?

GlockworK.2954

Well it could be to offset the fact that you don’t appear on ones screen when you come out of invis turning your “3” secs in between disappearing into 1 lol. I really don’t know about what your asking but it is irritating getting killed by an invisible target so no one feels bad for you.

First, QQ moar. He is talking about PvE targets, not your sorry kitten

Second, no one wants to hear you cry over a thief crushing you in WvWvW.

OP, the stealth mechanic has changed a bit. Instead of aggro dropping completely, it essentially pauses aggro so the mob doesn’t reset. So when you come back out of stealth, the mob is still going to go for you. This is my understanding on why they changed it because enemies were resetting. Undoubtedly for boss fights, it’s rather irritating if you drop SR on your group and the boss resets.

Some people like the change (I do) and others do not. There are some other threads floating around this forum discussing the matter.

As for the mobs still hitting you in stealth, were they using a channeled ability? Channels go right through our stealth like a laser guided missile. I’ve had a few times were I thought a mob shouldn’t be able to hit me but did anyways. It’s been acting strange lately.

Thief still op in PvE after stealth changes

GlockworK.2954

Well personally I think there is a bug with Stealth now. In a good way too.

I have found that around half the time I stealth and if there are other players around, the mob just stands there taking hits waiting for me to unstealth. Now if I’m clever I can stay in stealth nearly forever with my SA traits.

Frankly we have been abusing this quite a bit. Haven’t bothered with any bosses, but champions and below are easy targets that are affected by this.

D/P Advice

in Thief

Posted by: GlockworK.2954

GlockworK.2954

Well I’ve grown very tired of just using D/D, being a one hit wonder when it comes to PvP/PvE (either I blow up or my opponent does) and then I came across a Thief using D/P.

That got me thinking. I could still keep my BS but I could last a lot longer between stealth and the constant blinds.

Anyone out there that enjoys the D/P build and how would you compare the playstyle to the D/D layout?

I worry that I would have to give up my Acrobatics traits in exchange for Shadow Arts losing some Vitality (we have kitten poor Vit as is).

My main goal would be to pick up Hidden Killer in CS for the BS’s and maybe up to Exposed Weakness in the DA line. I think I would be alright stopping at Dagger Training although. As for the rest, I’ve kicked around the idea of either building my other utility skills to compliment Signets and Might gain on use (to pick up some more burst on BS) or to revolve around my Deception skills with a 20% cooldown reduction.

Looking at a 20/30/20/0/0 build right now.

What are your guys thoughts on the D/P build and would you recommend it over D/D for less burst but more pressure playstyle?

Double Backstab?

in Thief

Posted by: GlockworK.2954

GlockworK.2954

We can use Backstab twice (due to the cast time) with perfect timing coming out of stealth. It’s rather hard to land a .5 second cast with latency, let alone WvW so I’d say you were just unlucky.

It doesn’t happen very often, I’ve been practicing on PvE mobs lately trying to get the timing down.

Probably because it’s one of the worst spots to level or even to get equipment. High density, very strong monsters over there.

Most high level players are in 60-75 zones or in LA. No reason to deal with the headache that is “Orr”.

An excellent example is a Short Bow Thief.

Infiltrators Arrow is a direct ability. Wherever it lands, we teleport to.

Cluster Bomb is an indirect ability. The ability arcs, so we can hit objects behind something.

But like you said; abilities, even of similar nature, act differently across professions. Maybe it’s another bug that can be added to the already “lengthy” list.

I just replied with " ".

I run a unique build, it satisfies me. 20/30/20/0/0 With the intention that Hidden Killer will be my biggest damage unleashed with guaranteed crits from constant stealthed Backstabs.

For me this just started maybe a few weeks ago. But I can’t play GW2 for more then an hour, my frames start dropping, audio chops and then I have to restart.

I personally think it’s a memory leak. I have tested two different GPU’s (ATI 7870, Nvidia 560 TI) with my main GTX 680. Tried all different variants of drivers. Nothing. Still get memory leaks progressively in the game. Even went a step further and borrowed my cousins 1200W PSU, thinking my 850W was failing (even though it passed testing). Still nothing.

What I have noticed is that my GPU power and usage drop to near 0%. Again no other game has this problem, just GW2.

I’d love to play your game Anet, but I can’t. Not like this.

What’s happening to mine is about an hour of gameplay my FPS drops to slideshow quality.

What I’ve noticed is that my GPU usage and power drop to near 0%. No other game have I head this happen with. I have to shut down my entire system or it gets locked up. I have rolled back my drivers at least three revisions. Still no dice.

I’ve tested this with two other GPU’s I have laying around (ATI 7870, Nvidia 560) and two other power supplies (600W, 850W) so I know it’s not just my components failing.

Seems like the last few patches broke something and now it has some memory leaks.

Pretty much can’t play GW2 until this is fixed.

How to report perma Stealth cheaters ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

“There is also no way they can go stealth by using heartseeker four to five times.”

Actually there is a way to go stealth using heartseeker. With dagger/pistol use blackpowder (smoke field) + heartseeker (leap finisher) + quick about face + 2xheartseeker. Repeat as initiative allows.

You have to turn off autotargeting to be sure that heartseeker doesn’t hit anything.

Viola, near perma-stealth with the right traits.

You will cap at 12 seconds. Hardly gamebreaking, let alone during that time thieves can’t do anything since they wasted all of their initiative on being stealthed. Same thing with CnD chaining.

I swear I will leave this game not because of Anet, mechanics or gear tiers, but because of this community.

Dancing Dagger's Purpose

in Thief

GlockworK.2954

The fact is, Dancing Dagger was meant for a multi-target cripple. Not your main source of damage.

If this is the intent the situation remains unchanged, Dancing Dagger is as bad at that role as it is at damage now.

Dancing Dagger still cripples for 5 seconds.

Dancing Dagger still can hit up to 4 targets.

Dancing Dagger still is a projectile finisher and has a range of 900.

Your just angry because you can’t light up multiple targets for a lot of damage.

On that note, I would have rather Anet left the damage alone but reduced the next bounce by 25%. Example:

4k > 3k > 2.25k > ~1.7K

This would at least left the high damage for a single target but couldn’t be abused when bouncing between two players (or Ranger’s and their pets).

Why doesn't this game have dueling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: GlockworK.2954

GlockworK.2954

It probably has something to do with the fact that players will scream for 1v1 balance. Like, the Death Blossom Thief build where you bleed -> stealth -> repeat is basically one of the ultimate 1v1 builds.

Well Thief/Rogue/Assassin MMO classes are generally strongest when it comes to 1v1. I agree there.

Main reason I want dueling: So I can better myself when engaging with certain classes. Practice makes perfect. Most people won’t understand what’s going on in a huge WvWvW battle or even in sPvP it can get chaotic and it’s hard to figure out what happened.

Duels let us test abilities against certain targets, learning what is good/bad and bettering ourselves against other players.

I hope Dueling gets some traction.

“But no promises” Absolutely ridiculous. “Oh hey, we’re not going to add something that has no negative effects that would make the game more fun and enjoyable for a lot of players.”

Eric Flannum

“Dueling is not a core system for us, given that we balance all of our PvP combat around groups of players fighting and not one-on-one engagements. Because of this, dueling is on our wish list of things to add, but is unlikely to make it into the game on release.”

“As far as dueling goes, it’s a thing that we would like to put in… whenever we do a feature, we really want to do it right, we don’t just want to do quick version of it, so right now, duels is something that we would like to do, but we’re not entirely certain if we’ll be able to get it in for launch. However, it will probably make its way in at some point.”

I’m pretty sure it’s a global file. i.e. “Boss”, “Battle”, etc.

So I don’t think you can give individual songs for every boss. I think I heard that you can put a few songs in it and it would randomly cycle through them. Not 100% sure on that though.

Lotro did its own version of infusions called ‘radiance’. Six months after introducing it they had a situation where no one new could get their radiance gear because everyone who had any would insist you had a minimum of x% to join their group. The community became one of ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ where only the former group could do the endgame content.

IIRC, didn’t they eventually get rid of Radiance? Only took them a few years to figure it out though. Which is exactly what you stated. The “haves” and “have nots”. It crippled the in-game community and in turn hurt the game in general.

I really have no idea what to say on the Cluster Bomb nerf. Just confused…

.5 second reduction isn’t a huge deal, but a nerf nonetheless.

Cloak and Dagger wasn’t a big source of damage to begin with. We only used it for the stealth anyways.

Overall, I think Anet missed. And missed rather poorly on whats wrong with our class and other classes.

You can’t cast Steal when channeling an ability.

What other first tier trait do you know that does up to 6k dmg?
Most are typically 5% situational dmg buffs, this is a 33%+ bonus to a spike.

When did I ever mention Mug?

The problem is the Mug > CnD > Backstab combo that opens the QQ floodgates. People are complaining that they can’t react to that combo. Delaying CnD after a Steal is really the only way to fix this.

Ok At least, this is something new, but i hope u will change more than that… the sPvT need changes, really

Well since we’re brewing up ideas about different map objectives.

King of the Hill (objective location changes after point capture)

I’m not sure where people are getting “Thieves are going to get a nerf” at. All the Anet rep said was that they were looking into raw damage spikes. That most likely means all classes that have an “alpha strike” will see a damage reduction, not just thieves in general.

The culling issue needs to be fixed. I can agree with that. The way I see it, is that Anet is looking to remove the <5 second fights by lowering damage spikes or, IMO, giving toughness a buff. Right now it doesn’t feel like toughness does much of anything.

Name great mobility options for guardian please.

First off, Guardians aren’t designed for mobility. Most of their abilities are designed to immobilize their opponents or prevent them from escaping.

Second and more to your question:

Leap of Faith
Flashing Blade
Judge’s Intervention
Merciful Intervention

These are all mobility options that Guardians have. The last two can be picked up by way of utility slots. But again, Guardians are designed to immobilize, knockdown or prevent enemies from escaping.

3 seconds of stealth is game breaking now?

We can stack up to 10 seconds but that also requires using a) Shadow Refuge (60 second cooldown) or b) Using CnD on a mob then following up with Hide in Shadows (which blows our 30 second cooldown heal).

And it’s only the #1 QQ on the forums because you aren’t reading the sPvP section. We’re laughed out of most organized PvP events, it’s only in WvWvW that players with little understanding of combat mechanics complain.

I’d also like to actively see your face “roll” across the keyboard. I would imagine that most of the in-game menus would pop up preventing you from seeing your screen.

Lower the cooldown to 30 (or 45) seconds I think would be justified for the ability.

Never, I repeat, never use Dagger Storm against a melee class. The biggest perk of this Elite skill is that we can reflect projectiles. You do not guard against melee attacks.

When I’m playing my Thief and I see another thief start using Dagger Storm, I’ll get right up in his face and smash him for the easy kill.

There is no “grand scheme of things” to “Thief 5 lets you hold a node indefinitely.” If other thief underwater skills bother you, you should probably post in the “Buff something” thread and not here.

The point is that being able to bunker a node and essentially never be hurt is silly and I’m pretty sure was not in their design philosophy. If it was something you could do on land they would nerf it in a heartbeat. Water really shouldn’t be any different, as the only real reason there might be is “it’s water combat so it doesn’t matter much.”

Shadow Assault uses 5 initiative. We’ll get back 1 initiative during the cast animation. How exactly are we indefinitely “bunkering” a node with that?

Some of the traps are pretty lackluster. Not the biggest fan of a “line” trap, I like the AoE “circular” traps.

Most of our traps and utility skills overlap themselves, so that’s something that Anet could look at. Caltrops and Needle Trap for example. I have never seen anyone use Needle Trap as it usually only hits one target, whereas the caltrops last for a period of time.

I would like the prospect of a longer base stealth but it can’t stack. i.e. 6 second stealth instead of 3 but it can’t stack with other stealth sources.

Thieves, how would you counter yourself?

in Thief

Posted by: GlockworK.2954

GlockworK.2954

I’ll agree with a lot of the other posters have said.

Putting a root or cripple on us really kills our uptime on our target. Especially after our initial burst (if a BS thief) we are left with hardly any options and little to no initiative. This pretty much screams free kill.

Another thing to note, as I’ve noticed others have had issues with Stealth, is that when you see a Thief stealth you’ll need to be on your toes. We can cap out Stealth to 10 seconds, most thieves won’t since it uses quite a bit initiative or a utility skill. So for the most part we’ll be in stealth for a grand total of 3 seconds. That’s your window to start using dodges, traps that immoblize/cripple or dropping short cd AoE’s.

Traps are the best option imo, I’ve had engineers and rangers sit on their traps when they notice I vanished. Most of the time I either eat the trap or toss an AoE of my own to get them out of it.

Well its obvious that the massive qq and crying has led up to this once again and it mostly comes from people who dont understand the class or dont want to. Its easier to come to the forums and post thread after thread of qq then going ingame and learning a class or how to counter something. I really want to see how they can “compensate” another nerf.
@Niim yea IF only.

Actually, my complaints stem from me both playing a lvl 80 geared thief doing this, and a lvl 80 guardian trying to figure out how to stop it, because there is no prevention to the stealth raw spike burst dps. There is also no cost of this high damage, if you start taking damage you can just stealth run away.

It would actually help if you posted suggestions or asked people how to avoid those situations.

In your thread however, you just want Anet to nerf thieves. This is a discussion forum to ask about class mechanics and discuss strategies. Not a place to direct your frustration.
