And when was that? Because since 2012 the biggest server always win.

Have you played since 2012 because the early days of WvW were nothing like they are today. Matches actually mattered, skillful play actually mattered and and people actually tried. I’m sure i’m not the only one that feels this way…

Why fight over it, in my humble opinion each adjustment that is made makes WvW worse. WvW is no longer fun period. The players desire to run cheese builds like boon sharing and continually run from fights and back capping has destroyed this game mode.

That being said, this is just my opinion. I prefer the days before “The Server with the biggest blob always wins”. When there was an actual strategy that went beyond the cheese team builds out there today. When there was Server pride not just “quick jump to X server because they are paired with Blackgate”. I don’t see this game mode ever being as good as it was, but again, just my opinion.

I knew there would be one of these posts just like when Star Wars Tor released thiers…. stop! What was given at PAX was an overview with not much detail. You don’t even know exactly what is coming… it could be 10 maps… there were at least 8 maps in GW1 in the Maguuma area. All we know is the area is being called the heart of Maguuma. The mastery system sounds promising… yes it is 1 new profession but the remaining 8 are being expanded somehow so that could be considered 10 new professions… stop the Guild Hall QQ they are coming and that is really all that matters. This is without a doubt an expansion! It is without a doubt exciting and I can’t wait to play it! If you hate it that much…. don’t buy it. See…. it’s that is easy!! Have fun and good luck!

I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this but I got an in game mail stating that my account will be banned in 72 hours and to go to a link to verify. It was not sent by an Anet employee so I am pretty sure this is a scam but wanted to make sure. I attached a screen shot of the mail and blocked out the players name because I know that is against the ToS. Thanks for any help!

I have been going back and playing through the earlier parts of the living story with some alts and I noticed that there is definitely a punishment mechanism for solo play. When I play these instances solo all of the enemies ignore the NPC’s and just attack me, certain skills are delayed by a half second or so especially healing skills, quality of loot scales down dramatically, and overall NPC’s aggro EVERYTHING on the map and run them to me and then forget how to fight or just stand back fighting trash when I am trying to advance through an area quickly. This doesn’t happen when I am in a group (except for NPC’s fighting every single trash mob), only in the story instances that I try to solo.

What really just pushed me over the edge is that I was trying to complete the recon demolitionist achievement and when there were only 3 corpses left (all 3 mined btw) Canach became an epic hero and singlehandedly killed every single mob that I tried to pull into the waiting mine. Not only did he kill EVERYTHING in the last part of the instance by himself, he didn’t lose a drop of health while all the other NPC’s were melted by the Mordrem. He tanked all the mobile mobs at the top of the hill and of course, I didn’t get the achievement.

I don’t mind having to work harder when playing solo I kind of expect that and I do understand that this is an MMO and group play is encouraged, but when there are mechanics in the game that prevent me from using skills, advancing through a story, or earning achievements because I am playing solo it’s a bit frustrating and the Devs should be called out on it. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, my son just started playing and I play on a Tier one server. Of course all of them are full so when he logged he had to chose a different server. I would like to have my son on the same server as me for Guild and WvW and I don’t mind paying the transfer fee since I bought the client on sale the fee is still cheaper than full price.

So my question is, are there any times (U.S. eastern) when the populations for BG/TC/JQ fall to very high or should I just plan on moving from my server that I have been on since launch? Also, (slim chance I’m sure) do you guys think I could get Anet to transfer him with a support ticket? Any help is appreciated!

I’m also on Verizon in the NYC area and am experiencing this issue.

Instead of setting up a VPN, try this workaround:

Edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts using notepad (run as administrator)

Add this line at the bottom:
174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Save the file. If Notepad prompts you to save as a new file, you need to start over and run Notepad as administrator.

If you have the GW2 launcher already open, restart it. If this still doesn’t help, you may need to change the address above and try a different number (e.g. assetcdn.102.etc..).

You may want to remove this line later when (if?) they resolve the networking issue.

Ok, I’m trying to get this to work but I can’t run notepad as administrator. I am getting no prompt to run it as administrator. I do get a prompt to open up an empty notepad as one thought but not the file C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts HELP! D; working on windows 7

I think it’s funny when people expect to be rewarded for pressing 1-1-1-1-1. I mean really people, to beat one of the most dangerous threats to Tyria (Zhaitan) 5 people had to press 2 for half an hour!!! GOSH!!! (/sarcasm)

It seems that the devs and some people in the community will “punish” players who want to Zerg their way through the game. Devs tinker with drop rates all the time and players just verbally abuse players for not playing the same as them.

I personally think “trains” are just silly…. IMO you are not playing the game when running blindly behind someone smacking all the champs you come across. Yet the rewards are much more worth it than spending an hour in a dungeon for 1000 blues, 1 rare, and 1g.

The point is this game was Marketed as “play your way”. If I want to go through every inch of the world and explore I should be making just as much/hr as the “farm train”. That is a reward for me playing the game. If I spend an hour in a level 30 dungeon I should make a small amount more then the PvErs and farmers but not the same as the 5 man group that just beat Arah. Yet that is how it is and it’s broken period. I think that dungeon’s, WvW, Open world PvE, and even sPvP isn’t putting money in the bank for Anet. The silly backskins and limited time item Living Story junk in the Gem store is. That is why the Lion’s share of the Dev’s effort goes in to weak, unappealing Living story crap! Just my opinion

What type of setup does one need to run GW2 60fps or better in Lions Arch and large WvWvW populations?

What type of setup does one need to not experience frame drops when panning the camera?

What mmorpg is a good representation of how a game with densely populated areas is supposed to run?

When developers provide recommended system requirements does that mean they expect the game to run 60fps at all times.

Is 20fps dips in performance an acceptable and standard thing for mmorpg devs? Or do they expect their games to be running at a more stable fps?

Here are my computer’s spec’s

Intel I7 2600k @ 4.2GHz (overclocked)
16 gb G-Skill Sniper Series Ram
EVGA GTX 760 Video Card
Win 8.1 on a SDD
GW2 on kitten (by itself)

Broadband is Fios 50/35

My experience with performance in GW2 is good overall. I have all setting maxed and get the following results:

In any PvE map I average 100-120 fps
Lions Arch at peak is about 50fps
WvW in the Zerg average 50-70 fps
WvW large scale battle(200 ore more players) 20fps and MASSIVE SKILL LAG!!!

One thing to point out is I have had a much better experience with Nvidia graphics cards over AMD in most games. I also believe an Intel processor works better with GW2 than an AMD processor (not my opinion it’s just what I read). Hope this helps!

I do agree Stooperdale but it is also a crappy solution. I am trying to complete world completion on my third character and all that is left is Orr. It is almost impossible because…. you guessed it…. there is hardly anyone in Orr anymore. There are some skill points that are guarded by multiple veterens and sometimes champions that you cannot solo. To wait around for someone to show up and help is a waste of time IMO. Sorry but I feel like that is broken!

Why not? Orr is dead still after defeating Zhaitan… the Risen still attack the coast on various maps… how can that be if Zhaitan is dead? Wouldn’t Zhaitan’s magic cease to be when he died? Wait how can Zhaitan be dead if he was already dead? How can one of the most dangerous beings be killed the way he was killed? To be honest it would be easier for Anet to raise Zhaitan from the dead and make him like all the other dragons… invisible! I agree that Orr should be rebuilt and the Risen should go away but like other things in the game, Anet did not flesh out the whole story and painted themselves into a corner. That’s why Orr will get no love anytime in the near future and Anet will lead players away from the area with the living story. It is kind of sad really.

The only thing I saw in BC and Hoelbraek was the recaps

I’m missing the one for completing the dungeon so I beat the dungeon but can’t go to the next step.

First things first I completed Braham’s and Rox’s content from March.

I beat the Molten Weapons Facility, got the reward, but did not get the achievement. I did a bug report but got no response. Just wondering if this is an issue. I plan on doing the dungeon again but I don’t want to do it again and have the same issue repeat. Is this a known bug or did I do something wrong. Thanks!

It was not possible to perform this exploit with an unmodified game client. Those who performed it knew exactly what they were doing.

Thanks for this Mike!!! Just a suggestion to you guys at Anet. This type of response should happen immediately. Mods are watching these posts closing, locking, and merging threads as they go. Gaile also tried to calm the masses but it doesn’t help as much as the quoted text above. Let me explain…

As a player I hear about the ban. Anet is always very open about why they do mass permabans and what exactly the exploit was but in this case there is no explanation. News of a legitimate ban is always on the “trusted” sites like Guru, Massively, Zam, etc. In this case Guru is the only one that has any news and all they had is a re-post of what Gaile posted. Gaile is a sweet woman who has alot of love for this game and everyone in the community, but her post did not address the concern of every player, what was the nature of the exploit?

I fully understand that there may be information about an exploit that you don’t want the general public to have. That makes sense and is an acceptable reason to be cryptic or silent. The statement Mike made in this post does not go in to graphic detail about the exploit but it can help me better understand the nature of Anet’s mistake in banning innocent players (i.e. the cheater gave the mistaken player exploited funds without their knowledge). Seeing so many post back that it has been resolved already is also reassuring.

Long and short of it, a little bit of information goes a long way. Remeber the Reddit post back in the day? Aggressively confronting you’re customers in a public setting with the unfiltered truth may have been a bad business practice (which is why the post was shutdown imo) but everyone in the community respected you for doing it, the people who did wrong and knew it fell off their soap box!

Why do people waste their time analyzing and debating over every word that comes out of the Anet devs mouth? I could understand it if we paid a sub fee but we don’t and tbh I am quite impressed for the amount of changes that went into this game from launch.

Everyone complained that there was no guesting now everyone is complaining that they can’t do dragons because everyone is guesting lol it makes my head spin! Stop spending your time looking for the conspiracy and just play the game!!!

Hey Anet… umm I guess you didn’t know but we all love your game!!! Just a suggestion…. maybe in the future you can consider doing a trickle download in the background a couple days before for the majority of the 500 – 800 megs of files then there is less downtime and less frustration! Thanks!

I like to listen to GW2 podcasts at work unfortunately I can’t find a really good one. I listened to 2 in particular but I have got up to date on The Siege (my fav) and just got sick of hearing about strictly WvW and the Podcasts host talking about moving on to other games. I am looking for a audio version podcast ( since my boss frowns upon me watching youtube on company time) with people who actually play the game and discuss more than their own guild politics. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Before I start I want to say that I am extremely excited for this update. Everything sounds awesome and I can’t wait to jump in. That being said I am disappointed that there are no dragons in this new content. For the overall threat that the Elder Dragons impose in Tyria is a bit underwhelming. The battle with Zhaitan was well… I don’t even have to say it.

Now 7 months into the game I don’t expect to kill all the Dragons tha would be silly. But when I read Flame and Frost all that I could think of was a war between Primordus and Jourmag that impacted the world. I knkw I jumped the gun a bit but who didn’t?

So are we ever going to see more of the Elder dragons so that they do feel like a threat? Thanks

I like the meta event suggestion! I would especially like it if they improve the drops to match time spent in the Meta as well. I know it doesn’t have to be said but the rewards are not worth doing the Meta Event’s which is why no one does them now.

There is really nothing to compare here. RNG is RNG. I could throw 4 of the same great swords in and get Dusk where you can throw 4000 different great swords in and get nothing that is why RNG sucks! I personally leave nothing to chance. Farm farm farm if you get what you need for your legendary great! If not buy it with the gold you earn….easy!

I miss guild halls. We would always group up, stock up and move out from the GH for whatever we did as a guild in GW1. Guild Halls may be one of the items that is giving them more trouble then they expected?(one can hope) Collin did say that Guilds are extremely important to the game and since so many people express that they want Guild Halls I don’t see them ignoring it much longer especially since it can be monetised so easily!

I would love to party with a Dev, kill a bunch of Champions in open world, and compare drops. That would be neat!

That is probably impossible to know right now. I think it will be some time yet before an expansion is started so I don’t know why everyone is speculating now.

What map were you looking at in GW1? I never would have gotten Grandmaster Cartographer without Texmod!!!

Anyway… I agree with many of the things posted here except free map travel and more skills. Most of the skills in GW1 were the same skill with different names and icons. And as someone else said everyone ran the same flavor of the month builds anyway!

One thing I don’t miss is standing in town for hours waiting for the right class to finally come in or getting kicked from a group because I want to play my build. I also hope speed clears stay 250 years in the past! They ruined DoA, UW, and FoW!!! (IMO) You shouldn’t be able to clear 9 quests and kill a former God in 10 minutes or less…

I like thieves and I agree they are not OP. I came across a thief last night in the EB JP. 1v1 he ate my face because he was invisible. I am not very experienced in PvP so I didn’t see it coming…. 2 shots and dead (me)! I rez and come back in and find the same thief hiding behind the pillar (I think he was out of initiative cuz no stealth). This time he didn’t see me. I blink in throw up clones and within 3 – 5 hits I’m dancing on his corpse. I’m not even that good with a Mes. Anyway the proof is in the pudding…… Zerg mentality kills, think and be aware and they are not hard to deal with. For the record I do have a level 19 thief. He got to 19 by mapping LA and some other capital cities and maxing Leather working. No nerf needed…. move along… move along!

I understand that people take offense to different things and so on but really? Can you really say that clicking on a “suspicious door” to start a fight in a video game is morally wrong? If there was a cut scene depicting a Separatist being ripped from their house with little Timmy watching you beat him down then you got something to post about. There isn’t, you click on a door. I mean really, should we call PETA because you get a title for slaying 1000 bunnies? I think not! I’m not trying to be mean or whatever but this is really stretching it.

If you’re waiting for supply camps (no walls around them) and you don’t want to switch servers you could get a group and sneak/run to the POI when it is off-peak for you’re server. If not and you don’t want to wait, switch to the server that owns that tower/keep. Just be prepared to be stuck for a while if you change!

If a player is kicked right before the final chest/boss via griefing on the kickers end, (and its reported) the kickers will get a 3 day ban. Anet has answered a similar thread on this a few months ago, and I’ve seen a qq thread from a kicker.

And that is how it should be! There are too many people that find pleasure in making someone else miserable.

I have a very limited time frame that I can play and I would be pretty kitten off too if I spent a part of that time helping a group through a dungeon just to get kicked right before the reward. It may seem harmless and funny to someone who can spend 16 hours a day on the game but for those with limited time to play it sucks!

I think you need to give the game more time. GW2 is not like GW1 and I think that is a good thing. I am a huge fan of the Franchise (played GW1 for 7 years) and I am glad that the game went in this direction. I think that if you give the game a chance you would too. Take it for what it is and don’t try to make it what it is not. The only thing that GW2 shares with GW1 is the lore and it should stay that way! (IMO)

The Devs have said for years that GvG was not going to be in GW2. I think they are trying to keep the sPvP compliant with an E-sport format and technically WvW is GvG.

Sorry but I have to disagree. The warning I got was for my post not being long enough. Kind of silly to me!

To be honest I read the official forums but I am very intimidated to post for two reasons. 1) As stated above there is no point to put up a well explained thought out point for discussion on important topics because if people don’t agree with you you get flamed into submission and 2) it is too heavily moderated. The CoC is in place and for the most part makes sense. I don’t feel I have ever violated the CoC yet I have had 3 posts deleted and 1 “friendly” warning issued by mods. Not going to get a 3 day ban for posting my opinion on a forum… it isn’t worth it!

This is no doubt make or break for the game but in a different way IMO. Anet has made their money already with 2 million copies sold. What they want (again IMO) more than that is to be THE standard E-sport game. They need to make the current populace happy in order to attract more new players so they can achieve their overall goal of being the most popular game in E-sport. If they don’t make the current populace happy the game will continue to lose players and will not advance as an E-sport. If that doesn’t happen we’ll either be paying a sub or not playing at all.

Sorry to the OP but most of the stuff (aside from poopie loot) is not Anets fault. This is an MMO, Orr is not meant to solo ever. It stinks but it’s fact. I understand where you’re coming from I have had similar experiences but they were mainly my fault thanks to rushing.

There is a solution for everything you listed. Patience, practice, and Google/Wiki. I hope tonight is better for you!

So, who’s fault is it that I didn’t get a popup when others in the group entered a dungeon? Who’s fault is it that I didn’t get whispers in my map chat because I had a whisper window (well, I guess that was my fault a bit). Who’s fault was it that all the NPCs dis-appeared after I checkpointed?

And, did you read what I read? I never said anything in Orr was problem. I didn’t have a problem with not being able to solo a Skill Point. I know I needed help with it.

Anyway, as always, the GW2 community has shown itself to be really great and helpful with their comments here (except you and Vol).

Not trying to offend you at all I have had the same frustrations
Although I didn’t touch on all of your points I feel that if you slowed down a bit it wouldn’t have been bad. The biggest thing that stuck out to me is that you want to play an MMO alone. There are huge bugs in the game right now and that is frustrating. The way I dealt with it was make my goals long term (patience) L2P, cause everyone is a noob at one time (practice) and follow updates (Google/Wiki). It worked for me maybe it can work for you too.
