Just play what you enjoy. In any case I’ll do a recap on classes I have experience with:
Warrior is just like King Conan. You passionately crush into the frey and hack around. It features good Offensive support with wee bit broken Defense mechanisms. It’s as Vanilla as it gets :P.
Guardian is an interesting class. Anyhow he is a Defense specialist with the propagation of Aegis, Resolve etc. Tho I find him a bit weak at DPS side, I don’t mind that seeing how that actually fits his design. A class for those that like group wide Defensive manouveres.
Engineer is a zoning specialist and one of the most versatile classes. Unexpectedly resilient to boot. Take him if you like static gameplay and planning in advance and/or like Turrets/bombs etc.
Ranger is a very fun class to play. With the downgrade of Spirits unbound down to master lvl, they’ll get pretty versatile. I love him beyond any measure(use sharpening stone, pull them into a fire trap and launch a volley with a LB
). Good for solo to boot(some pets tank for you if you manage them properly!). What’s not to like(hmm…Sword 1 >.<)
Thief is fun and VERY resilient when you don’t run the usual zerk nonsense. I am using Heavy swiftness/vigour/mobility build and there is nothing that can kill me. I have that many dodges(RfI, WD, Sig of Ag, 30 Acrobatics, Runes of speed, … LOVE IT). Use it with Sword/x for ultimate awesomeness. Can’t wait to get better init regen!
Necro, when played correctly, flatout refuses to die and puts an astounding amount of damage at the same time. Mostly through condis and debuffs, but still. One of my favourites.
Ele is a piano player’s class(
). Nah jk. It is good, but too squishy for me and that hinders me from playing it even when I love the concept(and two elements to boot-three if you count Arcane as an element). It is also pretty different between which weapon you use. Daggers require good reflexes and an even better build. Sceptre/Focus basically requires other players. Staff requires a tactical mind. I don’t really know what to think of him tbh.
Mesmer-no idea. It seems strange, but on a rather tantalising way. I think that I’ll like it seeing how I loved GW 1 mes.

Now would you use complimentary colours? I mean they look kinda nice, but on the extreme side. I was thinking of using analogous colours, but I would kill for a HSV code seeing how, for example, Ocean Blue and Country Jeans are approx 5 degrees apart(nothing really), but Ocean Blue is not only more blue but more saturated as well. Is a bit hard to use An.Colours without that :P.

Well I should’ve wrote that I specialise in PvE/RP/lore side of things. I NEVER and I mean that in the full meaning of that word played any RPG to compete. I played either because of story(RPGs tend to Excel here) or because of joint venture design(cooperation in dungeons etc). I am a guy that is defined by DnD, Warhammer quest etc. So I can be a bit Dusty in PvP(I play other genres-MOBAs most notably for that) when it comes not only to GW 2 but MMOs in general.
And from that viewpoint the things aren’t even half that bad. With a bit of Ingenuity you can play whatever you want, the way you want. Isn’t that the very essence of what a RPG is about?
Thieves, well I said that they are a fine critter to dance around haven’t I? If not, I just did
. Anyhow, they are rather problematic because of one specific mechanic they have(I HATE from the bottoms of my being the guy who invented no-check stealth): the stealth. It then turns into you one shotting them or them one shotting you. Too binary right? This thing happens everywhere where the stealthers are present(MMOs, MOBAs, take your pick). Stealth should have an anti stealth check and more than one btw(am referring to Rangers getting anti stealth skill).. Right now it’s too cheesy(not just in GW 2 mind you! There was a reason why Izzy was deathly afraid of giving Sins the Real stealth in GW 1…).
Mesmers are alike to the Guardians Concerning the balance? I heard such things. It’s good seeing someone nearing that mythical state(BALANCED :O).
What I am afraid of is that GW 2 will fail in the exact same spot where GW 1 had fallen before. And as is evident from tourney, itcould be happening yet again. The minion specs (>.<). That. Is. Troublesome.
I always thought of a Warrior as a King Conan. That’s why I don’t associate them with the Defense and conditions and why I always found launch(eh not the mechanic, but the time when the game was launched) Wars a-ok. But then again, there surely are other Warriors than king Conan. Right

The solution is rather easy, but two pronged(both forks are equally important!):
-Mob diversity, AI and such things. Mobs should really have more skills than a BOOM skill(big dmg) and a WHACK skill(CC). Maybe if they used more actual player skills? How about more conditions? Mobs that explode when killed(I have a creeping feeling that this should really be a part of a Cantha expansion. Idk why
)? More than now, That’s for sure!
-the current situation in the attributes is appalling to say at least. It looks like following: DD stats>DoT stats>Defensive stats. THIS cripples(almost immobilises lol!) the build diversity greatly! It also means that the DD is in ABSOLUTE dominion over the Defense(Power>>Defense)! :O No comment. Anyhow it should be like following(ideally): DD=DoT=Defense or like following(realistically): DD >= DoT >= Defense(which means that it’s not in absolutes, but rather in relations). How to achieve this one? Well That’s a million quid question is it not? I feel that, unfortunately, it’s going to have to be done through the mechanic overhauls. Why is that unfortunate? Because it would undermine the balance which is pretty in tune right now and I’d be sad to see it go. Various other things could get broken in the process as well. But this is something that HAS GOT TO BE DONE. For the better or for the worse…
Well I must admit that I’ve been shadowing GW 2’s class balance situation for quite some time now. I haven’t played that much in the last half a year, but then again I don’t need to play to grasp theoretical build ideas and balance. These are my impressions:
Warrior: He is fairly balanced and does everything he is designed to do. But, I do think that he is a bit too tough right now. What’s the remedy? Scale him back a bit towards the state he was at launch by FINE Tuning his Defense abilities. If 0% was the launch state and 100% the current one, he should be scaled down to about 70-80 of current Defense. Not that much and it would put back the Risk in the ____ and the reward at warrior’s, therefore requiring a bit more skill. Not nearly as much as at launch mind you!
Guardian: Is almost perfectly balanced around his theme. Various synchronisations and such are in order, but I’d prefer if they didn’t touch him for as long as possible. He’s literally in such a good position balance wise.
Engineer: with perma vigour gone(not actually, but it is gone in the easy mode of yore), the skill reqs for playing Engi are going up. I don’t necessarily like that, seeing how playing Engi can be like playing a piano sometimes. But easy mode specs should definitely go. With that said I feel like you can play most specs right now save for the Turrets. Which, naturally, means that ANet can focus solely on them come next year. And the remaining synchronisations/bug fixes etc. They should focus on Turrets.
Ranger: With the upcoming patch I feel like most things should be playable. Some pets need buffs in order to be viable and sword’s 1 should receive a quality of Life fix. After next patch the Rangers are going to be in a pretty good shape.
Thief: They are taking away vigour, focusing thieves on swiftness instead and increasing Base initiative regen. Suits me! If you ask me, it’s merely a roundabout method of achieving mobility. Will it be a Buff or a nerf? Who knows those things? I like how the resource management could actually become a skill amongst Thief players. Is ok.
Necro: I just don’t know what to think of him. Giving him a burn was a mistake(he is not a bloody Ritualist so you can fall back to the good old spirit burn explanation!) that doesn’t even become him, but I think that ANet’s finally getting the hang of Necro. A static, durable, DoT/Debuff machine. Everything else is merely an extra! As long as they keep this as the Main intended playstyle of Necros, everything’s gonna be A-ok.
Mesmer-don’t play him too much sorry! But I intend to in the future because I LOVED that bloody class in the GW 1. I owe him that much(at least a playthrough)…
Elementalist: I still feel they are too fragile. The updates they have in store are all fine and dandy(I love how they accentuate other trait lines besides Water and Arcane{is not like I need anything more personally-well maybe Water/Earth would be better
}), but I feel like they are not really tackling the issue why everyone is taking 30 in Water in the first place. 3k hp is a lot on such a squishy char. That’s why. Maybe if ANet lowered the recharge on some key Defensive Traits? On some key Defensive skills? Not both mind you! That would only create the penultimate bunker char. We don’t need those. Damage wise I feel like they are ok. Dagger/Dagger is about concentrated bursts and mobility(they do that just fine), Sceptre/Focus is about support dmg with a lot of Auras and Fields(done, done and done) and staff is about t3h artillery effect. Fire is about AoE DoTs and DD(done), Air about various spikes and mobility and hard cc(done), earth about Soft CC and debuffs and dots(done, done and done) and water about Healing, Soft CC and various support oriented stuff(vulnerability, chill, those kind of things. Oh and done!).
I feel like there is not that much to be done about GW 2’s balance Save for various synchronisations and fine tunes. That leaves the ANet the freedom to tackle the issue of Engineer’s Turrets and Elementalist’s squishyness head on. Which in turn means that they are aware of the problem(well they should be lol!) and that in turn means that already the 50% of work is done(identifying the problem). Manual labor is all that stands between us and balanced Eles/Turrets.

Tho, There’s something fishy to that colour wheel. Why are grays listed in the blue spectrum? Also why exactly is an Ocean blue dye-nvm. Awesome dye that one.
Jalapeno I don’t really like. It is…too shiny? Concerning the shine I like the likes of the spruce/Teal/tea(country) jeans etc. Those that look like that. And I don’t like too bright colours(they seem empty to me and remind me of cold-don’t ask why :P ) either.

Right. Seeing how difficult it is to find the exact hue I want(both in game and on wiki), I decided to turn to the community. So if you can help, that’d be lovely!
The colours/hues I am looking for are:
Topaz yellow-you know the colour. That warm yellow which is most often associated with Topazes, sometimes post offices as well.
Teal colours and especially Aquamarine related colours-I especially like darker colours such as Spruce(LOVE that colour!) and the like.
Dark and Warm Green colours-the ones that go well with the Brown dyes.
Blue colours I can find. No prob!

The only way to get laurels is through dailies, and who knows if the next day will have daily acheivements you want to do?
It’s a matter of how much you enjoy the game. If you like all aspects of the game, most, if not all dailies, will be something you would enjoy doing. If you only enjoy a single, limited aspect of the game, finding a daily you enjoy is going to take some time, but then again if you only enjoy a single, limited aspect of the game, maybe it’s not a game for you…
True MMO allows you to enjoy just that little niche that interests you-be it crafting, slaying or even some other gimmicks(polymock, diplomacy, grinding, ….).
An MMO that does not allow you to play as YOU WANT, is not an MMO.

Now I can go lvl my bros(Ranger+Engi) in peace. Healing Turret change makes me pretty happy(I think I’ll go with 3 Turrets and a kit{which one?}).

None of the classes got any large or noticable buffs. This was all tooltip/paperwork stuff. Crying foul about this patch is not a good idea. The other hard up classes didn’t get anything else either. And maybe for the first time in the last 10 patches I didn’t count any warrior buffs.
Take offense if they balance out those classes and ignore necro.

You can also use signets with that build(Signet of Hunt+Signet of Wild+Moment of clarity=VERY nice dmg!).
Come to think of it-why exactly are Signets in Marksmanship? What are we? Some kind of tattoed Imperial Archer lol? It makes more Sense to be either in Wilderness Survival or Nature Magic. Just lol at signets in MM.
No. On the contrary. You just gave 0/5 to all but the staff. I’d reckon that only good option left is S/D. I am interested in constructive thoughts about all the other weapons/weapon combinations. Likewise, you can explain just why Staff or S/D is so beastly good…

Go with P/V/T if you want GS. Come to think of it, P is not needed. You could use Traps and take Malice over it(that’s better). GS has really narf Power coefficients.
And Btw, attack means NOTHING. If you really want to calculate your damage use the following formula:
Dmg=WPS/A
W-Weapon Damage(use Median value)
P-Power used
S-Power coefficient(usually between 0.5-1.2)
A-Armour(for standardised damage calculations, use 2600{Heavy Armour value}).

Turrets.
Simple as that.
First of all, this is all imo:
What you need(leveling+dungeons):
Healing Turret
Thumper Turret
Supply Crate(gee what a surprise!)
30 in Inventions(get at least Metal Plating+Autotool Instalation)
10 in Tools(Deployable Turrets is a M.U.S.T.-it adds whole another layer of tactics)
At LEAST 600-750 Compassion(make the most out of perma regen)
Now for the optionals:
Rifled Turret Barrels from the Inventions line: is a good trait overall. Tho, I am not sure about its usefullness with Thumper Turret. Moreover, in more Defensive build(Pistol Shield) it is subpar trait to the Shield trait.
Shield modifying trait: if you want to use Pistol Shield, otherwise skip
Net Turret: beautiful for kiting with rifle. Lack of dmg could be noticable tho.
Rocket Turret: has larger damage than Rifle, but it also has lower rate of fire. Therefore, effective DPS plumets. It plumets even more against heavily armoured enemies(no vulnerability).
Rifle Turret: Faster but weaker counterpart of Rocket Turret. Has an useful toolbelt skill(if you are going to do Discharge Turret build) and has vuln as well.
Flame Turret: Beautiful both for maximising your burn durations(in Pistol Pistol builds) and for defense(Pistol Shield) and for kiting(Rifle-the longer you kite around it, the more damage it does). Beautiful toolbelt and overcharge effects.
Explosives trait line: if you wanna go Defensive with Healing Turret+Thumper Turret+Bomb Kit+Throw Mine. Otherwise, it’s entirely skippable. DO NOT INVEST points here only to enhance Turret explosions(IMPORTANT!)!!!
Firearms trait line: is nice both for its malice(Pistols) and Crit(Rifles) bonuses. It makes you fight from larger distances, makes kiting easier and if you ever feel Like using Flamethrower-Juggernaut is a must. All in all, a nice enough line.
Alchemy trait line: does not give you anything. Skip it.
Tools trait line: has nice enough build possibilities with Toolkit+Static Discharge oriented Traits. Not a bad line per se, but you DO need ANOTHER trait line to make the most out of it(either Firearms so you get both +crit chance and +crit dmg or Explosives so you get +dmg and +crit dmg. Firearms prefered.).
Defensive stats(Vitality, Toughness): they let you REALLY drag out the Battle when combined with Compassion. Tho, you will lack dmg.
Offensive stats(Power, Malice, Crit Chance): they make the most out of your time. Remember, you are quite tough so you can get into extended firefights with your enemies. They excel at this. Tho, you could skip crit chance unless you are going more or less full offense.
My advice on the build? Here it is:
Rifle
0/30/30/0/10
Healing Turret
Rifle Turret
Thumper Turret
Flame OR Net Turret
Supply Crate
Traits used are: Rifled Barrels, Hair Trigger, Rifgle mods, Metal Plating, Autotool Instalation, Rifled Turret Barrels, Deployable Turrets.
Stat importance: Vitality>Power>Compassion>Toughness(you can switch the places of Power and Toughness if you are feeling Defensive-you can also bump Compassion one place up).
And last, but definitely not the least, remember to HAVE FUN with this my little build.

Now, I will say what we are lacking. Our Turrets, simple as that, need to have at least 50% of our stats applied to them(or 100% bonus stats-YOUR choice ANet!). Nothing more is needed.
That is all I’ve got to say about that.
I play exclusively PvE. If I want PvP-I go to lol or something. My thought is that PvP in MMOs is universally subpar to the actual PvP games(Starcraft/Counter Strike/LoL). So I will not waste my time there…
Oh, and I dislike PvP Heavy MMOs. But seeing how every MMO has PvE in one form or another(I’ll solo if necessary!), the focus of MMO does not interest me. It only needs to be fun and engaging.
i have an amd fx-4100 and radeon xfx 7770 HD and while just doing simple questing and some heavy zone events my fps will be 35 at best and 15 at worst on everything maxed out, although i use the limit option to set it to 30.
max = 16x AA and all that crap, everything…

WTF! You can’t see a difference between 4x and 8x(well you can but it requires extreme zooms/angles). And now the difference between 8x and 16x is visible when exactly? When playing with projector lol? Maybe at XxXtRreme zooms? It’s not even worth it! Turn that waffle down!
Since my previous post was deleted, I’ll create more elaborate one this time:
The professions listed here are graded from the most broken to the least broken:
1. Engineer-guess what! They don’t have weapon DPS/stats on their Kits/Turrets and have to blow an utility slot just for one measly kit! They are EXTREMELY random, sometimes outright broken(Pistol skill #2 says hello!) and struggle with Defense in any of their so called “versatile” builds. Nay, they can’t even get good and reliable condi removal, let alone. I’ll conclude this by saying that it’s actually fairly simple to fix them(add stats/weapon DPS to the kits/Turrets and fix them bugs), so I wouldn’t say they need a REMAKE. Revision, otoh, hell Yeah!
2. Necro-I know that they are modeled after Death/all that nonsense(Slow but unstoppable, right?), but this is nonsense! Most of their weapons are garbage(at least 50% is), they don’t have Real flow to them and only fully working build is condi one and that one suffers from the way condis are set(get in a group with Sword/Sword Warrior and you are TOTALLY obsolete!). Moreover, it doesn’t feel Like a Necro. That Dark/corrupting presence which is clearly visible in WoW locks is simply not present here! You are just cramming another pile of rubbish in the same area where other players happen to fight/use their finishers. Broken pets, broken Traits, narf skills. What can I say? There is no hope for Necro! REMAKE approved!
3. Thief-yes, you read that one right! They need to be mobile and tricky/devious, not kitten 3-3-3-3-3-3-3-2-2-3-3-3-… Anyhow, all of their weapons need second looking, because: is D/D really so OP or are other options too UP? I’ll let you think about that one. Further, stealth needs to be used as a MOBILITY tool, not as a DPS tool. That would be it. REMAKE approved!
4. Ranger-a Bastion of weirdly paired skills and the weirdest implementation of Pets EVAR! I’ll just be quick and say that it has but one good build(condis) and that it needs REMAKE ASAP! REMAKE approved!
5. Elementalist-could use a good, hard look within S/F weapons. Other weapons are good, as are utilities(sure, the cantrips are the best, but at least all the Utilities are fairly useable). Something needs to be done about prevalence of Water Magic trait line tho. Just a general balance is needed(not that large). REMAKE disapproved!
6. Mesmer-more or less, it’s in the same position as Ele. No remake needed here. It’s fairly balanced.
7. Warrior-sure it needs to be whacked by NARFBAT, but a remake??? No way! No way now, no way tomorrow and no way never.
8-Guardian-see #7 Warrior!
So, I’d Like to see Necro, Thief and Ranger remade and all the other classes merely tweaked(Save for Engi, I don’t feel that adding stats to Kits counts as a full remake). I’ll just put Engi in IDK category…

Even if they nerf all the abilities I will still play the D/D build to show Arenanet, polity, that it isn’t OP but player Skill is OP.
you cannot change players skill by nerfing.AoE Nerf, stupidest Idea someone has had, if there was an award for it it would go to arenanet.
Make Ele builds more viable and you will see less QQ about bunker builds (We chose D/D…because arenanet nerfed all other builds) and maybe then you will see it comes down to player skill & having more options open to others.
“Play the game your style” nope.
-A D/D Ele who will show Player skill is OP and not spells that are OP, while polity asking anet to stop nerfing stupidly (D/D Ele movement…)
Actually Mythic Entertainment(creators of DAoC and WAR) did it before and yes, they destroyed their game with it. I am sad that ANet is keen on walking down that Path(not good).
Now, one interesting question occured to me:
Why don’t they simply split the skills on PvE and PvP version? At least then you’d be able to play 33% of content normally(Hey it’s better than 0%).
It serves no purpose, but to decimate your playerbase. So, just cancel that nonsense.
Learn from Warhammer online. They did the exact same thing and it only made things worse. Why? Melee trains, nuff said.
And instead of nerfing, buff the UP things. Balance is boring and, speaking directly, you’ll never reach e-Sports. It’s just beyond your grasp. So just make the game more fun by buffing Engis/Necs/Rangers instead of whittling the game Down to Guardians n Warriors 2(GW2).
Some heartfelt concerns from a GW1 fan. If you continue Down this road, which I fear to thread, you’ll have lost a customer(and sooner than you think!).
Please forego the AoE nerf and wild goose chase that is e-Sport and focus on the true qualities of the game(and of the franchise).

Not to mention that Piken is basically dead. So I have next to NO reason to play.

Various Turret builds:
Point blank Turrets: Healing Turret/Flame Turret/Thumper Turret/Throw mine(or bomb kit).
Offensive Turrets with lots of mobility: Healing T/Net T/Rifle T/Rocket T
Defensive Turrets: Healing T/Net T/Thumper T/Flame T
Full Offensive Turrets: Healing T/Rocket T/Rifle T/Thumper T(or Flame T-your choice)
This is PvE and you always use Rifle(net shot is too good to pass) with 0/30/30/0/10 Traits. Major Traits go towards Turrets(in the Inventions and the Tools trait lines) and towards making your Rifle a better weapon(within Firearms trait).
Actually, THE WAIT is what’s killing me! Because change can go in the countless dimensions, remember?
If I get attached to my lovely field of Turrets on Engineer→what if they implement something drastic(Turret kit?)? Then they have killed another of professions which (currently) interest me.

1. Yes-no need to add gear treadmills. It is also a keystone of GW franchise.
2. Yes-why not? If it Already is in, it should have a function.

4. Yes-unequal playing field just creates monstrosities such as WAR
5. ABSOLUTELY-that is a BARE NECESSITY!

7. Yes. If it already is in, why not design it to maximise group behaviour?

Yes, it’s getting tiring waiting for them to truly finish some classes(Engi, Ranger, Necro, some other broken things).
I’d rather have the confirmation on that than these unimportant changes(imo). Where is Izzy when you need him eh?
