After doing a quick look here is what I came up with for resurrection. This is in reference to humans, and you could possibly expand it to include Norns (Spirits) and Sylvari (Pale Tree).

“Grenth allows the existence of resurrection, especially for heroes so they may continue obtaining Favor. However, he has been known to withhold such a blessing (likely those he deems unworthy).”

In GW 1 Necromancers “‘(exploit)’ the corpse, in essence using it up” in order to make a minion, and they would “exploit” any dead: even dead allies / friends. Minions were only raised from a corpse, and never created from “nothing” with one exception. You could gain a minion without a corpse by using the elite skill “Aura of the Lich.”

I know that some may say my choice is really bad, but I use Rune of Speed on my Condi PU build.

Reason: I"m running Rabid armor, Carrion weapons, Rabid trinkets, with 1 Dire/Rabid ear and back peice.

I do not have enough money for Perplexity runes, and to be honest I wanted more HP. I thought it was a good choice for the time being until I decide if I really want to invest in a set of Perplexity runes.

Rune of Speed. ~ 1 gold, 60 silver each

+175 Vitality
+25 % IMS (movement speed)
30 % swiftness duration
25 % chance to gain swiftness when struck.

I did a portal length yesterday. (dropped 1st portal, ran to golems, dropped second portal, clones / CS, ported to first portal spot, then CS took me back to Golems).

I have a question concerning the HoT beta access. Will this be a traditional beta with a wipe of HoT progression afterwards, or is this early access where any HoT progression made will stay? Are we going to be able to use our existing characters and gear, or given new characters for the beta access?

I was unable to get a HoT portal stone drop; therefore, I am unaware of how this was previously handled. On the other hand, the beta weekend could possibly be handled completely different.

I checked the FAQ and could find any answers. Does anyone know, or have a link with this information?

What it was, is that you could do the instance over and over again and get the chest rewards every time you did the instance. The same thing happened last year, and they changed it so that you could only get the chest 1 time / day. Someone forgot this detail again this year.

SM Dungeons: AC, CM, TA, SE
Map Completion: 22%
Personal Story: level 53
Crafted to 400: Cooking, Arti., Jewel
Lots of EotM karma train

30 / 30 Adept Traits – Captured 7 ( 23 % ), bought the rest.
3 / 20 Master Traits – Captured 2, bought the remaining one
0 Grand master traits.

The reason I played the way I did, was that I felt I needed to rush to 80, in order to go into the higher level zones, to get the rest of my traits. I really wished I did not feel this need to rush, and that I could play around with traits and builds while I level.

But hey I am 80 now…I’l just go to dungeons with a 3,3,3,3,2 build for a while… and get the rest whenever… xD

IE: My Mesmer has 200 + skill points, I have the gold. Let my Mesmer be able to buy Guardian tomes, so that I can unlock my trait faster with SP and Gold. As I said before the major problem I have now, is the lack of Skill Points on the new Character.

It would be super super nice if skill points were account bound, and that would alleviate the problem of rolling alts struggling with skill points to get traits in the new system.

But it wouldn’t do a thing for genuinely new players.

I completely agree.

I figured many others have suggested ways for new players and for WvW only players to unlock traits. Just adding my two cents, in what I am facing.

Besides the fact the Adept levels traits need to start to be unlock at level 11. Through low level map completion, low levels bosses (Oak, Bandit), and low level Jumping puzzles, and personal story. That by the time you are level 36 you already have a fair about of trait unlocked, to experiment with. Then by level 42 most if not all Adept level traits should be unlocked. Then again By level 48 you should have a descent amount of Master level traits unlock to start messing with.

I deleted one of my characters to experience the new trait system. I am already seriously regretting it. It has been said before that the acquisition of some traits do not fit the level of the trait. IE: Adept level trait, and needing to map complete a high level zone.

First there needs to be some rebalancing of this.

My biggest problem is that I have the gold to unlock my traits, what I don’t have on my new character is Skill points. Between needing SP for utilities, and then if I need them for trait unlocks, I don’t have enough.

I suggest the following.

Tomes that will unlock utilities skills or traits. Have them drop from chest, champions, etc.

OR…Let me buy my tomes with a different profession.

IE: My Mesmer has 200 + skill points, I have the gold. Let my Mesmer be able to buy Guardian tomes, so that I can unlock my trait faster with SP and Gold. As I said before the major problem I have now, is the lack of Skill Points on the new Character.

I would like to have more traits sooner, as I level, to learn and experience my new character.

Using your definition of a casual player, 20 mins a day. Anyone in that category would have a had time even starting in Ascended crafting. When it takes over 170 gold worth of materials (each profession) in order just to level Hunts, Arti, and Weapons (400-500), then you have the price of the weapon itself.

You are right that removing the ecto gate the lower tier mats would also increase more then they are, but you would also have more people capitalizing on this new market. Potentially letting the “casual” get into this market and make money off of selling lower tier mats.

Concerning your last rebuttal on dragonite and empryeal….Yes in theory there is a near unlimited amount that you can receive in a day. But, it is still largely affected by time, and doing all those events. I think we both can agree that it takes a descent amount of time to collect them, potentially slowing people down.

My point has NOTHING to do with collecting materials or time-gating of crafting….it’s simple economics based on their model. If people don’t log into the game, they have ZERO chance to purchase that item in the gem store they LIKE. It’s really that simple.

I’m not saying you have to like it, but there IS a valid reason ANet want’s you in the game everyday.

I understand you point, first off.

I want to keep this thread positive, and also not get off topic too much. This is the crux of the matter. To keep us playing, then buy default to keep people spending money for gems.

Currently there are only two “hard” time gates. Daily laurels (by default monthly), and daily ecto refinement. Everything else is just time, and people choosing to do X activity because they want to, in order to achieve a goal, or because its fun and they enjoy it.

Look at the Living story…how long does it take to complete the meta? 2-4 days? I know that I have completed every LS meta except SAB, I believe it takes me on average 3 days.

There are many ways to keep players playing, compelling content, compelling story, fun activities, etc.

Using ecto refinement as one of the major “hard” time gates, and then by default to say that arena net did that to keep players logging in everyday, seems like a strong indictment on a lack of “good” reasons to keep people logging in.

I really hope that they didn’t use the ecto time gate just to keep people logging in everyday, so they could increase the potential for gem sales. If it is, it says something about the overall content.

Ascended gear, like Legendaries, need to be gated. The only thing that should change is the ability to sell Ascended gear… like Legendaries.

I think that I have already demonstrated that ascended crafting is already gated. As it should be, to a point.

Gated:

By laurels,
Amount of time needed to collect Dragonite, and Empyreal
Amount of time needed to collect mats, or farm money to buy mats
The shear amount of money needed to craft them, let alone buy ascended items from the TP

If someone truly wants ascended gear, they will have to spend a lot of time in game getting the resources or money to buy the materials.

Or buy gems….

The time gate on the ecto refinement is NOT needed. That is what I would like changed.

Time gating favors casual players who don’t have have a lot of time to play every day. Without it, the materials required would be too expensive for casual players to buy.

I don’t want to get into a debate on definitions of hardcore / casual…. But from a market stand point, MORE competition would cause prices to fall, therefore benefiting more people with less money. Then all consumers would benefit.

Also if player A plays 7 days, and player B plays 3 days with the current time gate, player B is 4 days behind, thus creating a larger gap between “casuals” and “hardcore” If anything time gating hurts the casual player more.

There is absolutely nothing even remotely time gated about the obsidian refinement materials.

Dragonite:

Temple x 6, Karka Queen = 180
Mid bosses ie: dragons = 75-125
low bosses ie: wurm, maw = 24-40

not counting guild quest, and wvw…so a minimum of 279 dragonite ore / day. BUT requiring a large time commitment spread out through the day. The same can be said for empyreal.

That is why i labeled it as time gated

Removing the time gate on Silk Weaving Thread is not a good idea because it would affect other mat prices too much.

If everybody would be allowed to craft as many as they wanted, and subsequently as many Bolts of Damask as they want, prices for wool, cotton and linen would go through the roof because the supply of those cloths is simply not there.

Thus creating a new market for said items, and another opportunity for others to make money.

I love free market, and competition.

He meant you can BUY ascended mats right now and have a full set already, not the raw mats that you have now that has to go through a time gate to craft.

No one is monopolizing the new ascended mats, every account can make one a day, there is no way to monopolize that unless you buy out all the supply which will not end good for you

First, I NOT complaining about the people that had the foresight to plan ahead and invest in the ascended market and are now profiting.

My definition of monopoly is based on a lack of competition, removing the time gate on ecto refinements would increase competition lowering prices and having an positive affect on consumers and allowing greater access to more people. This is just addressing the side of how the time gate affects the market.

To one of my original points, 1) I find buying everything a huge waste of money. 2) The only true limiting factor that I have and possibly a lot of others, is the time gate on the refinement.

I like “working” for my things, and don’t mind it. I’m not asking or wanting people to get ascended items like candy.

Guess what, there are people that finished their ascended armor already.
Time gated items are great for people that want to profit with crafting, if you only want the armor, then work harder to get the gold and have the last tier of armor of the game.

Those are a fortune few. I am a light armor user, and don’t have a set of ascended armor because of ecto refinement time gating. By the way, I am fully ascended weapon wise, and have a stock pile of ecto refinements from weapon crafting. (so I’m not a whiner, that believes I can never get it done, I have and will – so its not a matter of working harder). With my current stock pile of mats and money I could have a full set VERY soon if it wasn’t for the time gate on ecto refinements.

To your point on profit from crafting, currently with the profit margin, it’s more of a monopoly then an open market. Removing the ecto refinement time gate would provide more competition and allow the market to move more.

As I stated in my original post there is a semi time gate, with empyreal and dragonite. The one on ecto refinement is unneeded.

It is time for the time gating in ascended crafting to go. I can understand some of the reasoning for having it in the beginning when ascended weapons came out. I can understand your need to protect the new market, and allow traders and crafters to make some money in the new area.
Ascended crafting is now at a place that it needs to be removed.

1. You made a game for all types of people, hardcore and casual. Not everyone can log in every day. This pushes getting a full set, further and further down the line. There is no progression other than waiting for time to pass.

2. Crafting is a money sink and a material sink. If people have massed wealth and items they should be able to craft all that they want, when they want. Also this would affect the market in a good way, creating more trade opportunities, and taking money and materials out of circulation.

3. The profit margins on the ascended crafting items are not close to the profit margins of other crafted items. Meaning there is room for more competition. In ascended weapons you are seeing profit margins between 20 % – 70 , in exotic crafting you are only seeing a profit margin in weapons at 16 – 50 % for sentinel and destroyer weapons and less than 10 % on normal exotics weapons.

4 You already have another time gate (at least potential) in place. With empyreal and dragonite being limited in the amount that you could get by time, and events, there is no need to place another one on ecto refiment.

5. Ascended crafting should be more of a resource drain, not necessarily a time drain. It already requires a large amount of money, and resources, and the willingness and time to play several different areas of the game (world bosses, temples, wvw, jp’s, dungeons). You have the time component already in place in different ways, through time spent in the events / activities and see point # 4, with the collecting for empyreal and dragonite.

I’m not sure what the % is to get an ascended weapon drop, probably pretty low. I love the fact that you can choose the weapon from the chest.

It’s a Mathilde Weapon Chest – Dire (Condi / Vit, Tough) and would be Black in color.

FYI the chest is only worth 3 s 20 b – I haven’t opened it / chosen a weapon since as I originally posted not interested in this combination. I guess I’l just hold on to it for a bit, and then probably npc it later on.

Today I was really happy that I got an ascended weapon as a drop. Then I saw that it is a stat that I would not use. Here is the problem. It is account bound, therefore I can not sell it in the TP, and I can’t salvage it either.

I know people will say use it on another character…I only play 1 really.

I’m not questioning account bound / unable to sell in the TP. ( Though I think I should be able to)

I just wish that we could salvage ascended weapons that we don’t want / won’t use. At least give a chance to get some ascended crafting mats.

As it is now, it will just collect dust in my storage until i figure something out.

Are the any other solutions? (besides using it on another Character)

Bases on how you worded # 1 I’m assuming that you’re mainly talking about WvW.

You can bring good utility and also be able to tag well. (Not as good as some other classes, but can do well)

Null Field, Feedback, and Focus are the core and the core traits are

Dom 8 – Glamour skills cause confusion,
Ins 2, 8 – Glamour cool down and Focus feed back

You can go deep into Illusions for longer confusion, glamour skill cause blind, and confusion on blind traits. You can go PTV and blitz through enemies to set up a portal bomb, or more condition based. There is a lot of different ways to go depending on what type of Mesmer / and style you want to play.

The main thing is the reflects from feedback, and focus skills, but Null Field is awesome to strip boons off the enemy and applies confusion. A side note on Null Field is the mechanics of the way it works it’s almost limitless in the amount of enemies it will hit.

i have had it happen in windy and stormy. I’ve tried holding forward, I’ve tried not holding anything down and have fallen all the way down both ways.

Edit: I finally made it. If a Dev is reading, I fell a few times in the Chilly section and it didn’t bug, and in the last section is didn’t fall at all.

…This should help answer any of the more specific questions about what to expect in the future in regards to the living world in Gw2.

Somehow, somewhere can we get some closure on some of the questions that was left from GW 1.

Like the Mursaat, Seers
Scepter of Orr, Livia
Dwarves, Bloodstones…and other things.

Just to name a few of the things left hanging. I know not all of them will get addressed and some like the dwarves makes sense when / if we face Primordus.

As a long time GW 1 player, I would like at sometime to get a bit more information on some of these things.

I found the gold / yellow stars on the mini map disheartening. I would have liked to “search” the area a bit more to find the suspects. Now I know there was a mob of people close to the suspect, but still…

Real life time != ingame time though.
For all we know it took 20 minutes to track down and get the suspects back to the crime-scene.

That is some investigation that can make a list of 6 suspects, find the location for all 6, track them down, bring them back to LA, and expose the real perpetrator all in 20 minutes….

Lionguard needs to be held acccountable

I would like to know the proper authority that I would need to speak to in order to hold Magnus the Bloody Handed, Investigator Ellen Keil, and the Lionguard responsible for the blatant disregard of Charr life.

The fine and honorable Charr Representative Garrot Ambercowl has been lying on the ground for 2 days at the scene of the crime. I personally am not familiar with Charr burial rights, but I assure you that it is not lying on the ground for 2 days.

I understand that the Charr are a fearsome race and that in war time they may hold different burial rights. That being said, this was a peaceful ceremony that ended in a tragic accident.

Either the medical examiner or the Lionguard are inapt if the still feel a need to have Garrot Ambercowl lying cold on the ground.

Also I have heard several Lion Arch’s citizens and Dragon Bash festival goers start to complain about the stench that is coming from his body.

I am surprised that more Charr have not complained concerning this blatant show of disrespect.

Garrot Ambercowl need to be laid to rest, so that his soul my find the Myst.

There is a BIG difference in exclusive content that is player skill based, guild / team based, and exclusive content that is just RNG / luck.

According to Wiki the drop rate of the Weapon ticket = 0.04 % in a sample size of 40,343

RNG is just that RNG, you can get it on the first try or never. BUT.

1 Jade ticket / 0.04 % = 2,500 coffers
2,500 × 2 s 02 b = 50 g 50 s
50 g 50 s / 2 g 15 s 82 b (price of selling gems)= 23.39 times x 100 = 2339.9 gems

You can only buy 800 and 1600 gems = 2,400 gems and that will cost you $ 30 usd.

So a Jade ticket is about $ 30 usd

New Guilds Wars 2 game = $ 49.99 usd.

Taking from Character bound to account bound is making a bad ideal into a worse idea. This item removes a gold sink from the game, and therefor affecting the economy in a negative way.

Yes you can spend 22 g to convert it ( i think that is what i read earlier)and that is a gold sink now, but others will spend real money to get it.

Turning it into an account bound item would do a lot more harm, then the convenience that it would provide.

BTW i think the item is really cool, just a poor idea. make it limited usage, ie 500, and make it a lot cheaper.

I posted in another thread the pickax removes a gold sink. Be it a small one, it is still troubling that a gem store item would remove a gold sink, potentially causing inflation, therefore push more people to buy gems to convert to gold to buy items in the TP.

Maybe not this particular item, but the ideology behind it is disturbing.

I personally feel that the unlimited usage pickax is a Horrible idea. For one simple reason it removes a gold sink. (Now you could argue that this particular gold sink is a small population, but still it is a gold sink that was in game). Maybe this item won’t affect the economy in a negative way, but the idea that Areannet would provide a gem store item that would remove a gold sink is troubling.

For those that don’t understand a gold sink is something in game that removes money from players, in order to try and control inflation.

Something I feel is wrong with the Norn.

Or even to shape shift and to be able to keep normal weapon skill bars.

ie: if I slot a norn transformation skill, when i enter into a battle, for 30 secs I transfer to what ever I chose, and keep my normal class skills with a slight stat change. Bear increase HP, and attack, Snow leopard increase Precision as examples, then put the skill into cool down.

It would make the skills more functional, and put it more like the lore. In fact it should be a race mechanic, not an elite skill. I would also just be happy to transform for 30 sec into battle more often, and NOT get stat increase or new skills.

As it is, I don’t want to give up my profession elite skill for a norn one.

Like timmy i don’t have time to read all the post. So let mine either be new suggestions, or a + 1 /agreement of others that posted in front of me.

For me the biggest change I would like to see are Dungeons that are Similar to FOWSC and UWSC. Now before you go off the deep end in disagreement, the aspect that I like is that it took a lot of player skill to get these down right.

This is what is lacking in the current dungeon experience. Right now it’s a yawn fest, grind fest. Dodge, Dodge skill, skill, Dodge skill, Ress a downed player, boss fight with lots of HP, skip this content don’t need it, next boss please.

I, as a player after finding a good build, and getting my gear I am NO LONGER challenged in the dungeon. It’s more of an endurance act then an experience were my playing skills get better.

What I liked about FOWSC, and UWSC is we raced each other, we raced for times, we raced for perfection. How fast as a T4 could you pop your reaper. Or the fact that I can pop my reaper, can I duo T3 and T4 quest, or could I true duo them., or wait I’m a LT, T4 went down I’l jump in and finish 4 horse, and improve my playing skill.

For the sake of length, there were many ways that I could progress and improve my playing skills in those speed clears.

The other thing that I love was the fact that ectos / shards could drop from normal mobs, and you were guaranteed one in the end chest. You could do this with loadstones, or something along those lines.

I would still get away from the RNG on the good skins, and keep it with tokens. I ran UWSC 50 times and got 2 voltic spears, and someone else in the guild ran over 500 and never got one, now that is frustrating for them. What I did like was that specific skins came from dungeons. I knew what to farm for BDS, or for froggy scepter, or for the Voltic.

AH+Emp. Might(with GS+staff) build is insane!

That is pretty much the same build I use with a few exceptions. I don’t take Pure of Voice, instead I use Solider Runes for ally shout condition removal, and take 2 hand mastery for hammer and staff cool down reduction. The reduction will increase your DPS, and it’s really nice with Staff 4.

Also I don’t like retaliation in PVE. The mobs don’t attack fast enough for me to feel traiting for retaliation is worth it. In PvP retaliation is really nice.

I go 5 into Radiance instead of 10 into Valor for the AOE blind on VoJ. This is mostly because I’m doing a lot of dungeons at the moment.

It is because your stats are scaled up by a percent based on your level for non 80’s. For example if you are lvl 50 and go to the entrance of CM, and then you level to 60…with the exact same gear you will have worse stats in front of CM then with the same gear at lvl 50.

What is important and what does NOT scale is your weapon damage and your armor rating. Make a lvl 1 character tele to WvW walk outside and try to kill the first mob you see…then hop on your Main, and go kill the exact same mob. Even though you may have better stats, the armor rating and weapon damage is no where close to each other. It will be much harder to kill the mob in lvl 1 gear even though you are scaled.

Who's Kuunavang's elder dragon?

After doing some research and reading the post here. I think that Kunnavang is NOT associated with the elder dragons. (At least not 250 years ago – the time of Factions). Who knows between then and now we will just have to see.

My Theory is based on several things. There are a lot of real world associations in GW, for example the Charr being very “Roman” in there structure, and being highly militaristic. There are Chinese zodiacs that correspond to the Canthan New Year. (In real life and in GW 1 it is currently the year of the dragon.)

Looking at real life fables, stories, lore, and legends. For the most part Western dragons have been shown as malevolent / evil, and Eastern dragons have been benevolent. There are similarities between Tyria – Europe, and Cantha – Asian cultures.

Based on quest and dialogue in GW 1 (wiki Saltspray, Kunnavang, Albax, Jade Wind for sources)

1. Seems that all Saltspray dragons were benevolent before the Jade wind.
2. Upon Shiros’ death the Jade Wind happened.
3. The Jade Wind caused all saltspray dragons to become corrupted except Albax, and Kunnavang
4. The floating Harvest Temple fell trapping Kuunavang underneath it
5. Over time Shiro’s influence corrupted Kuunavang – This being only “skin deep” that her heart / core was not corrupted.

We free her from this corruption in a mission in GW 1, and she goes on to help us fight Shiro

What is also interesting is that is seems that uncorrupted Saltspray dragons could use there powers to cause “misfortune / bad luck” to happen in a form of a curse.

This is seen in the quest “If It Weren’t for Bad Luck….”

I think at the moment it would be safe to say that Kuunavang is not associated with the Elder dragons. Mostly due to the difference in how dragons are viewed between Tyria and Cantha.

You could have made the same arguments for Glint, it wasn’t until the book “Edge of Destiny” that we learn of her former association with the Kral.

I am very interested in going to Cantha to see the changes and to see where the story will take us.

Who's Kuunavang's elder dragon?

There are several things that come to mind.

There seems to be a difference between Elder dragons, and Cantha’s Dragons.

There are Celestial Beings, based on the real world Chinese Zodiac Calander. So there is a Celestial Dragon, and we are currently in the year of the Dragon, in real life, and in game. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Celestial_Dragon.

These are Celestial Beings that are physical embodiment of the spirit of the stars. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Celestial

There was a human woman called Tahmu that became a Celestial Dragon. (Check link above for more info)

Kunnavang looks just like a Celestial Dragon, so there could be some association there, maybe a representative of the Celestial Beings?

I think at this point there is not enough information out there. I am more inclined to believe that Kuunavang is a bit different then Glint, and therefore possible not associated with the Elder Dragons, just by the simple fact of the Celestial Lore.

I think a solution for lack of funds would be is to change when you are charged. I like the fees, and don’t want them removed. Currently you have to have the cash and pay on the front end to post a buy order or fill a sell order.

I think if you are posting a Sell order, then you are charged up front like it is now. BUT if you are filling a buy order for fast cash, then you get charged on the back side after selling it. This would be the simplest solution with out causing to many problems.

Filling a buy order is always less cash then posting a sell order, and in the long run the better way is to use sell orders. There are many reasons for someone having low funds, bad spending / saving habits, or you just made a large purchase for something that you wanted. Either way, a lot of people don’t have the cash to post an item worth 50 + gold in the TP. Using a buy order only, and charging on the back side would be the best for instant cash.
