This doesn’t halt progress as there are othe actions you can take to complete the heart. However, the drunks no longer wake up when you dump water on them. Water buckets spawn fine, and single-use can be dumped on them. Tried more than one drunk and they are happily sleeping it off still.

the recipes for 7 and up are gone

This shouldn’t be the case. All the artificer recipes should still be there. INFUZ simply added an alternative, faster way to create some of the infusions.

Correct, the artificer part of my post was error. I had not “discovered” +7 yet. However, I also just returned to the game, and assumed (bad me) that the higher artificer as well as mystic forge things may have been removed.

I think it is simpler now. It would have been less confusing if the vendor replaced the artificer on a 1-to-1 basis not odds only and the only breaker, but only +7 up. Or if the wiki had been updated in tandem with the update. But I was quite confused, and the guildies didn’t know as they either didn’t do fractals or did a lot and had better then +7s. However, I have an artificer and now I see how it works (thanks CS GM Stinky Ghost shout out!) I will be able to rebuild my AR.

Discrimination of casual PvE palyers

Hechicera.9816

Well, I think discrimination is a harsh word, it certainly does three bad things.

1. Makes it harder for casuals or those that just bought or just returned to catch up.
2. Further makes it hard on primary WvW players to get PvE things they may want.
3. Is uninteresting game design. *

The making it harder for casuals is well-covered. For WvW, having a mastery track is a wonderful suggestion imho. *

  • I don’t design MMOs, but here is a quote from a game designer I do respect for his work (also non-MMO):

“Games are a series of interesting decisions,” says Firaxis’ Sid Meier

Once you have the bars filled up now, you have no choice. And not only no choice, but no choice but to be felt like your candy has been taken away. That is part of the feeling also behind the constant requests to buff not nerf to balance.

Either give us a choice, or allow exp that is going down a rabbit hole to be used. The WvW track introduces an interesting choice. For casual/returnee/new PvE only players, either auto rolling it over once they are gated on mastery points or allowing it as a choice is good. When you aren’t gated on mastery points, which track to train is an interesting choice.

Fwiw, I am gated for old tyria. But I only lack 2 points before all trees are full and I’ll get exp again. I see it, but it won’t affect me for long. I can only imagine the anguish of someone stuck behind a fully exp filled last legendary research track, but out of mastery points. That is a long time to go with no candy and no interesting choices.

Old vanilla +6’s are affected as well.

New vendor: Breaks 7 and up
Artificer: combines up TO 6, the recipes for 7 and up are gone

I had two old 6’s and nothing to do with them.

There are two bugs actually:

1 – once you HAVE a vanilla +6 you are stuck
2 – artificers can still CREATE +6

Aaaaaand more people will get stuck.

I ideally, artificer should create only up to +5, so it still plugs into vendor. And vendor should break down to 6’s. You could let artificer combine up to 7, since I have 2, I could then break it properly, but that won’t prevent new artificer combiners from getting stuck when they make their first +6.
So eventually more people will get stuck.

Permit duplicates of permanent tools

I didn’t get them until they were character tradeable and then just used the bank, inconveniently. The shared inventory slots help, but only a little. I still have to make sure I “put them up” and “take them out” every character swap, which no longer needs to be at a bank.

I have one character of each class and each one uses the same three tools now since breaking my habit makes me have to search for the character with the tools. Better to stick to three tools. There are not enough slots shared slots for say all my sylvari to share one set and my asura characters a different set.

If they were duplicateable, like the acheev point skins are then I might buy more. I have a 4th now, but remembering who had it last of the 3 characters I’d like to use that one tool on was more trouble than it gave me pleasure. I regret buying more than three without more flexibility.

Different backgrounds I guess. We were taught to be happy with what we got. Receipts were absolutely never included with the gift (price scratched off via pen or otherwise). The only exceptions tended to be with clothes, and even then rarely. Edit, to clarify: If something needed to be exchanged, the gift giver tended to be the one to do it (as they kept the receipt), so that the receiver didn’t necessarily find out how much was spent. Thus none of the “I’m only worth ‘x’ to you” drama.

Actual “gift” receipts are a newer thing (they were just coming out when I was younger, and worked my “starter job” as a cashier at one of the larger retail stores in my state) and most (here) found them to be in bad taste since you don’t give the recipient a receipt. I’ve noted that mainly the “younger” generations use gift receipts and gift cards, rather than actually seeking out and giving meaningful gifts to those they care for.

We were also to be grateful, but there were three factors that may be different. One, she lived in an era where childhood mortality was higher, gifts were mailed, and including the receipt was a further kindness. If something happened to a child and the gift was mailed, the receipt allowed the person to decide how to handle it. Yes, this really was a concern, mail could take a while too.

She did very carefully select gifts she thought people would like, but she also realized that value and delight were in the eyes of the receiver. Perhaps the gift was one they liked but in a color a new spouse hated, and she was unaware? Or they simply did not like the gift but did not wish to offend her by saying so? Her goal was that they be delighted. Whether mailed or local, the receipt allowed the recipient to gain the enjoyment she intended without an added social burden of having to inform her that the original gift had failed. Many times she had to ask for hand-written receipts from clerks too. The clerks would often be complicit in trying not to reveal prices on exchanges! I can’t imagine that today. But better the receipt was to her, the buyer, in case she learned of a circumstance making the gift inappropriate before it was sent/given.

Besides, she pointed out that a busy-body would try to find out the price anyway so they could take offense! Today they can just look up the price online even easier.

its a gift be grateful

In real life you include a gift receipt for a reason.

That’s actually a relatively new thing, and many still consider it to be in bad taste except in very select instances.

Odd. I was taught to do this by my grandmother, who has been deceased for decades and was born in the 1800s.

You were taught that its ok to tell some they are only worth “x” amount of money? How tacky…

LOL! Oh my, whatever did we do without pre-printed priceless inserts.

Pre-printed receipts are indeed new. In the age before automation and computers, one of my jobs as a grandchild that cared for her as she got older was to go through all her gift receipts before they were included in the presents and using a pen mark over the price so the gift recipient would not know the price!

So, you can’t be serious, as pens had indeed been invented, and this was one of their purposes!

Patience is not the issue, storage space is. At least for me. Most of my characters will be getting one promptly anyway. If I put it in the bank I won’t be able to tell which goes to which character without logging in and out with all of them (message is that is it soulbound to “Another character” but won’t say which). I also don’t like inventory bloat in a game where you pay for inventory.

It is a cool item, but I may end up deleting it on some characters for space. It may be a definer between have’s and have nots.

Let them eat cake! Indeed.

Ok, I think I’ve pinned down another of the “not fun” issues. Sid Meier (that Civ guy) has said

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/164869/GDC_2012_Sid_Meier_on_how_to_see_games_as_sets_of_interesting_decisions.php

“Games are a series of interesting decisions,” says Firaxis’ Sid Meier.

A series of choices of what subset of a large number of perhaps sub-optimal skills to use is still a more interesting choice than only being allowed to not use the trait I do not have yet. When you don’t have the traits, there are no interesting decisions to be made. In GW1, you had some skills always, just not the elites. So it could be interesting, and perhaps frustrating like a puzzle, to be able to find a way to arrange them in a more functional set.

Just because you could throw an inconsequential 8th skill in your bar, didn’t mean you weren’t seriously disadvantaged by doing so.

Well, if what you were doing was throwing an inconsequential 8th skill on your bar then sure. What a strawman.

Finding a strong build yourself with a new character in GW1 before capping elites was a sense of accomplishment. And if you couldn’t, you asked on the boards because they existed. They were starter, but competent, and updated each expansion. Then the elite caps were another second accomplishment. The non-elite builds often leveraged synergy between existing non-elites. But I can’t do that here with traits since I can’t leverage synergies between traits I don’t have, to make up for another trait I don’t have. The emotional feel is very different. And, thankfully you can’t ping traits in GW2. If so, then there would be a new form of elitism for players of new characters to deal with.

If this is the same: where is the list of good starter “no trait” builds for GW2, like there were non-elite starter builds for GW1? You know, new players will need them now too.

Casual players put money into the game to get what they want. They are the ones that buy the gems with cash, so unlocking stuff via gold is not that much of an issue for them.

No they don’t. Not this one. I will happily buy gems for vanity items and skins that give me no advantage. If I have to pay to progress that is out.

If they already have an 80, they can just run a few dungeons, look up a build that works for their other class, use the gold to unlock the build.

I had all to 80, and grandfathered when I returned recently. The only one geared is the Ranger … next suggestion?

My issue is that I decided to reroll three of them to change the race. On the bright side, I’ve now seen the last two racial stories. The grandfathered skills are not unlocked on the new chars.

I’m interested in playing with builds not playing “the meta rotation” ala WoW. Yes, we established I’m casual. Playing with builds is fun, and a gold sink on its own. I have had these classes at 80 with all skills unlocked already! Copying meta builds is boring for me. Next suggestion?

This concept isn’t stupid. It’s reminiscent of how GW1 works.

No, no its not. One they were ELITE skills. For many of them there was still a basic one that worked, just not as well. I never had a slot EMPTY because I had no skill capped. Perhaps I had a less optimal choice in the slot. Traits are EMPTY until you go get it. They are unlocked, and empty for a long time if you level “normally”. Just doing 3-4 of the map completions you need for them can get you to 80!

Depending how you play. Possible Level 80 with zero traits!

Yes! Like the first of my rerolls so far! This is exactly what happens. Though it has a handful unlocked since they were there in the area when I leveled.

So far she purchased one. It was unlockable where I leveled but the event was broken. From reading the wiki, it usually is. So rather than forget where it was from and why I didn’t get it, I got that with cash and points in hand from leveling. In the two small patch notes since then, that event has seen no fixes. Hmmm.

Elite farming in GW1 was fun. This is much less fun. I’m not sure exactly why. It seems to be more than one factor in play making it less fun.

Oh you fly a kite and imagine you are going faster, and really do! Hmmm. All that made me think of was this:

http://www.northofearth.com/cultofthewind/

Yes, it is a game where:

“In Cult of the Wind, players compete and cooperate in ritualistic multi-player human dogfights, complete with imaginary weapons, pretend explosions, and airplane noises made with their mouths. Shower your friends in a hail of imaginary bullets and proclaim, “I got you! You have to lie down,” to which they respond, “Nuh-uh, I have a shield.” You argue about whether or not airplanes can have shields, meanwhile some other guy does a cannonball onto your head while whistling. It’s great. "

Whelp, at least I don’t have to make “kite noises” with my mouth for it to work!

Would Anet consider a race change feature?

With the universal wardrobe, and the highest tier gear being sharable among your account, it seems like it would just be easier to simply create a new character in the race you want. But that’s just me, I guess.

Certainly easy to do. But with the new trait unlocks, if you are used to a L80 with full traits it will be quite some time, and maybe even quite some cash before you have them back.

[Suggestion] Infinite Gathering tools per alt

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hechicera.9816

Hechicera.9816

Only thing that would change is me spending less time, and not spending extra 3 silvers to port to bank; which shouldn’t be a huge deal I think?

Not exactly the only thing that changes, ANet gets less money.

Not from me. I have alts, lots of alts! Sometimes I reroll them … even after they are 80. I refused to buy the tools when they were soulbound to one character. I only bit now they are alt-friendlier.

An ideal would be a tool claim like you can claim achievement skins now. So if they were even more convenient I’d probably consider alternate weapon skins to have for use on different characters/new alts. But now, I’ll see one that might be nice to see on two characters and then think how much hassle remembering who had which tool last will be and rethink that extra purchase. I’ll likely stick to one of each instead. Three banks slots only perma-used and no “Who has the tool? DUDE! Where did I leave my tool?” spreadsheet style tracking needed.

Players want a warm fuzzy when considering a purchase, this suggestion would give me that. Now I have a “Ugh, hassle” feeling, so no sale. Before, as a serious maker of alts, I had the oh no that is a bad purchase for me feeling and refrained totally. Make the game more alt friendly (and I’m partly back due to changes so far that direction) and I’m more likely to spend on those alts: and play them, and keep logging in, and maybe buy other crap if I feel I’m having fun and not fighting the interface.

I’ve been commenting on threads like this for decades, being a female in gaming.

Choice, which is what OP wanted, is always good. To the posters that said, throw realism out the window, that’s good too. Rather than have players come argue about which opinion wins, and for which armor, just give players choices. More choices equal more gamers happy with how their character looks and thus more money.

Gaming, as an industry, also needs to be a tad less … obtuse. More women game, and many more women, gaming and non-gaming, control more of the household budget now. While ANet doesn’t 100% fall into this trap, only young teen males being happy with the choices will confine the game to heavy competition in a saturated space, with less people willing to help them buy it. Honestly, ANet isn’t half bad with options compared to much of the genre. They should keep it up though, and I support OP.

Then again, given that Anet had the guts to add a lesbian couple to the game, I’m still waiting for them to have the guts to openly sexualize a male character by giving them skimpy outfits.

That isn’t guts. Especially if one was hot for anything with a pulse in the writing too: it was pure pandering. Guts isn’t adding lesbians wanting action, it would be adding a respected male gay couple who were committed and leaders in their community.

The sound a female sylvari makes often when crippled. It sounds like a cross between someone strangling a mid-sized dog, a southern hog-calling competition entry and an alpine yodeller. It seems to go on almost as long as a hog call.

The only way to make this not grate on my nerves would be to have female sylvari rushed by a pack of domestic hogs every time, then at least I’d know they’d won the hog call.

I sometimes turn effects down all the way to avoid this, but then I miss other audio cues.

Mouse losing focus -right click to turn not working [Merged]

Hechicera.9816

I started getting this bug a few days ago, and it rapidly got worse. I tried quite a few of the things mentioned, to no avail. The ones that seemed the most promising, at first, were ones that minimized use of the mouse. I tried to see if other mouse movements would trigger the mouse freeze and found they could, but the RMB one was the one I used almost constantly so it was just where I usually saw it.

I did notice, at least in my case, that I was getting the same beep as a USB error or removing a device. My mouse is wired USB Logitech (but even a wireless to a USB hub could get my problem). So I looked that up and found this:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/mouse-beeps-and-stutters/60e2adff-9656-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?msgId=bdd6a87f-5b57-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5&tab=AllReplies#tabs

The “Method 1” solution in that did nothing to fix the problem. The Method 2 however, after working out the order to get the usb hub, port and usb device drivers all to do a fresh install on boot after a delete, that seems to have done it. I played an hour in fullscreen and another one in windowed fullscreen (the dual monitor mouse moving off it really got the error going before) and not a single beep or mouse hang.

So in my case it looks like a usb system driver corrupted. Reinstalling the mouse drivers had done nothing before, and making sure the usb hardware drivers were upgraded did nothing, only the delete and force windows to fresh install the usb system worked.

Bit of an odd question.

I’ll just post this to be clear. In no way did OPs reminding of my son indicate I felt he had Asperger’s like my son. His further observations that he is probably neuro-typical, neither surprise me nor change my advice. Social skills coaching can be very useful for neuro-typical people as well! Debugging your social cues is useful in many professions for better performance. Doing so does not indicate a lack of confidence or any other issues. My comments to OP were based on his own self-reported level of dissatisfaction with the quality of his interactions. That and no one really is fully aware of how they come across.

But it is still a debugging tactic that happens offline. The general support offered here on the forum is quite impressive too.

Your getting them influence is why they benefit from you, so theoretically it should be incentive for them to treat you well to keep getting it. They didn’t. You left. Not only that but you are telling others that they won’t be treated well there. System working!

Bit of an odd question.

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Hechicera.9816

Hechicera.9816

You remind me of my son somewhat, though not completely. He has Asperger’s, not that you do, but the exactly level of social interaction and responses is what is in common. I’d like to caution you on the thinking that you know what you are doing is socially “appropriate” because is was to use your words bred into you. We’re in the southern US, and politeness is a social must, This didn’t help my son too much .. at first. You say you are logical. And you observe people responding to you with discomfort. There is a reason. Now depending on the person, and the reason, maybe you shouldn’t care. But you report it happens with enough frequency you want advice.

The bad news. This is the internet. Much of the advice you’ve been given here is good, but may not fully help. Some of it you’ve already been on top of anyway. You need someone to work with on your social interactions. We’re here on the internet, none of us can see what it is. Is it eye contact? standing too close? too far? an overly expressive face? an totally impassive expression that creeps some people out? Maybe your voice is too monotone and people think you are bored? Maybe you are a serious introvert, and really not “into them” and not hiding it. So far, the forum and you have ruled out hygiene and any serious emotional issues. My son could see how people reacted accurately, but couldn’t quite figure out what he did to cause it! You say the same thing. I can’t see you or hear you though, so can’t help. I believe you when you say what you observe in others reactions, but no one is able to properly observe himself. For that you need someone not on the internet.

Instead of a therapist, perhaps ask a local therapy group if there are any social skills groups gong on. The university or college may also offer them as they are much needed for anyone on the austism spectrum moving into college. Drop in on one and listen to what they say. If not, see if you can’t find a very socially ept buddy, maybe female, who is willing to be brutally honest. But obviously you have to do this in meatspace not internet. With feedback you should figure out what and some practice should be able to match your body language to what you intend to convey. How much time you spend tracking down this is up to you. My son is also a hyper-social extrovert, so he was really motivated to get all the kinks out. If you are more introverted, you may only want to get to debug this enough to get the level of social interaction that suits you. And there is nothing wrong with that.
