The OP’s approach works best if members of the team aren’t proficient in English and long detailed sentences will only confuse the crap out of them. Or if the leader isn’t great at explaining things either and it’s just better to get short and easy to understand instructions. Personally, I like to know why, as being a more informed player leads to better decision-making.
I’ve read so many on the forums talking about he/she being the last player standing and then continues writing with the implied notion that he/she is the better player. While in certain situations that holds true, there are times when I see the last person standing as the worst player in the group.
Sometimes that last person standing is all that makes the difference, and actually makes everyone notice whether he’s the strongest link or the broken one.
It’s a biased viewpoint so even if they were the worst player, they’ll still think they’re the best, and seem perversely happy the rest of the party wiped as proof of their superiority. Yeah, it could really be a bad group and you are the bestest player, but on the other hand, it could also mean you’re not a team player.
I have seen PUGs that are experienced, but play like they’re solo and do things that make it difficult for the rest of the party. Especially when they rush and start the next encounter when not everyone is ready yet, or pull more mobs over to low health teammates.
Maybe you could suggest to the thief to range if they’ve got the shaman’s aggro focused on them, easier to evade the breath from further away. There is weapon switch, use 2nd weapon set if D/D is too risky, and when aggro is dropped, go back to backstabbing. Be prepared to continually switch according to the situation.
P/P is nice for single target damage, but SB may be more useful for clusterbomb and combo finishers if other party members are putting down fields like fire and water fields.
1. Go into fractals solo
2. Restart until you get Grawl or Swamp fractal
3. Kill normal mobs until you get a Vial drop.
I’m quite sure that the mobs in the wisp stage of Swamp fractal have been changed to not drop anything now.
If more gathering tools are going to be introduced in the gem store, what the heck are they going to look like? We really going to chop down trees and gather berries with lava?
It could be frost sickles to match the ice theme of Living Story. Flash frozen omnomberries!.
$570 in gem store purchases over the 8 months I’ve been playing GW2. Seems like a lot, but it’s within my budget for leisure spending and doesn’t affect my finances.
I think OP is asking if ascended gear could be bought directly with gold instead of the various combinations of fractal relics, laurels, guild commendations and ectos. I think. :S
I spent 20 kitten golds to convert the requested gems and STILL i don’t even see the SHADOW of this bloody pick.
I PRETEND TO HAVE IT OR TO GET MY MONEY BACK. I ALREADY SENT A REPORT AND I’M GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF THIS.
Is your mailbox full? Gemstore items are sent to your inbox for you to collect, and if you have too many messages (10+), it won’t show up until you delete a few. Sorry if this isn’t the issue, and I hope that support can resolve for you quickly.
I play a thief too, and it seems like Mossman is always picking on me (and Lupi that one time I tried out Arah).
I tried to get some respite by moving away and being in stealth around the time Mossman would reappear, but he always seems to thwack me with his axes. Hmm, maybe I was standing in front of someone else he was targeting.
When you use the pick, lava erupts from the node, pretty cool.
I’m quite happy with the convenience of not having to continually check how many picks I have left, and frees up bag space for other stuff. I’d always skip lower level nodes as I didn’t want to ‘waste’ an orichalcum pick use, but now I feel free to use it on whatever.

I get what the OP’s trying to do with the wordplay, but Heatseeker doesn’t quite fit – it brings to mind more of thermal imaging than applying fire condition damage. And Heartburn sounds silly.
The two posters above suggested tweaks to venom traits instead for access to burning, which seems more in line with profession aesthetics.
Watch for this fighting the Jade guys in the Jade Maw fractal too.
Reflect is not the happy when you’re P/D. I usually swap my hands to D/P just for that one.
I find D/P brilliant in Jade Maw, helps yank those Jade Collossi closer to the safe corner, for shadow shooting to tentacles and perma-blinding.
When I first tried to shadow shot a collossus, I expected to teleport to it and was surprised to find it appear right before me instead. Thought it might have been severe lag or something, until I noticed the reflect buff and hey, now this made a lot of sense, what a cool mechanic!
Shadow shot on Reflect sort of works like a spammable, shorter ranged scorpion pull without the knockdown, and swiping mobs from under your teammates’ noses (for their own good of course!) does sort of fit the style of thieves. :P
Hi, I’d love to join the guild but I’m not experienced in Arah dungeon.
Sifhanyr
Profession: Thief
Traited: 15/0/20/20/15
Gear: Exotic/Ascended. Usual active weaponset is shortbow and dagger/pistol, but I carry other weapons and can change sets to D/D and P/P etc.
Experience: New to Arah and not much experience, I’ve only done path 3 twice a long time ago.
Time: GMT+ 11, mostly active on weekends.
Other: I always try to pay attention to other party members and be in line with their playstyle, willing to listen and follow instructions, and can use TS3, Mumble or Vent.
I’m pretty sure Grawl Slaying will work against the Shaman. Against the Power Suit you might consider using the Dredge Slaying tonic.
No idea, if there’s potions for the other bosses.
Cheers.
For the last part of the Volcanic fractal, the Lava Elemental Grubs can be more difficult to manage than the Shaman as you go higher in fractal level. It would be better to change to an Elemental Slaying potion at the final platform to deal with those grubs.
This happened a while ago, but in WvW I came upon a downed player surrounded by several invaders and quickly cast shadow refuge to stealth rez him, in the nick of time as he only had a sliver of life left. One of the invaders who was also a thief used scorpion wire to pull me away from him and out of the refuge area. I was thinking craaaap I’m going to get revealed and die now, but just as I cross the boundary, the house disappears and I still keep my invisibility.
I go back and finish rezzing the downed player, while the invaders run away thinking we were long gone, but we were still there all along at their feet.
Also, fun times with the gift boxes during the Christmas event. Was surprised by an enemy squad and was losing, until I run to a nearby gift box and unleashed a pack of dolls. The knockback and chaos was glorious, the invaders wiped and 2/3 of my party did too.
Wow, okay, a lot of misogyny going on here. Clearly women share a hivemind and what one woman says or does is representative of all other women.
I don’t agree with the OP’s viewpoint, but I do wish the pink quaggan backpack wasn’t RNG. I’d rather pay a set amount than deal with uncertainty, so not going to try for it.
The harpy fractal always makes me groan, it’s the trying to evade knockback attacks on tiny spaces that’s frustrating. I play a thief character and am not very experienced, but I find most helpful is equipping two pistols for skills #4 Headshot and #5 Black Powder, as well as Smokescreen in utility.
Blinds from Black Powder and Smokescreen mitigates damage, and when as I see a red circle appear, using Headshot will interrupt the cast. I always try to stand on a platform with a suitable backup platform behind, so if I don’t interrupt in time, hopefully I’ll land on a platform instead of flying away. Don’t always get the right distance and angle all the time though. >.<
Reading from the above suggestions, it’s probably easier to just move out of the way instead of trying to control a position. Or maybe rush past with stealth.
Thanks for the ideas.
They don’t need to be completely dead. Rezzing from down state is also counted.
Killing the Veteran Sand Wurm is the last part of the DE that requires you to collect 8 pieces of golem parts to repair Advisor Zakk’s golem. You got Bronze because someone else collected the parts, and killing the wurm isn’t weighted as much.
Yes it is profitable, and I did this when ectos were selling for 35+ silver, but as ectos dropped below 30s the profit wasn’t enough to me to make up for the boredom. There is a lot of clicking involved, you can be there for hours playing with filters to find the cheapest greens, setting up dozens of buy orders and then chucking them into the mystic forge.
My average was about 4-6 attempts for a rare, and with buy orders at 1s for each green, that’s about 16-24s to produce a rare. In the end I decided it was cheaper and more reliable to craft rares, the sigils are only a few silver anyway. With the mystic forge you could be lucky and get a rare for 2 attempts, or have a bad run of 15+ fail attempts.
Just a note, remember to subtract 15% in listing and selling fees, your earnings are actually 29.83g instead of 35.10g, and less 23.27g, that gives you a profit of 6.56g (28.21%).
I suggest that you take out all mobs in the area first just so you don’t end up with them as well as the dolls.
Sometimes those mobs can help. Playing a thief and when solo, I vastly prefer for lots of other mobs to be clustered around. I would be near down, quickly tag those other mobs and then stealth, leaving those mobs to turn on the gift spawn. They help wear down the skritt/toys and give me a bit more time to recover and heal.
I think I remember finding some nodes in the straits of devestation
Oh that’s Cayenne Pepper, not Chili Pepper. You can find Chili Pepper in Iron Marches too, just had one drop from a Mature Herbs node.

To make the number stick you also need to hit the enter key after typing in the number in the box, otherwise it just goes back to 1. It’s a little annoying, the interface feels so clunky I keep forgetting to press enter before I begin craft.

@ Trayzard
In a way, holding onto an item so you can sell for higher could be seen as more greedy; those impatient low sellers, they’re settling for less after all.
Besides being stupid or ignorant of the market, people could be better informed but still decide to sell for less if they’re already happy with that amount, or maybe they felt like giving a bargain, although that usually benefits some reseller’s pocket.
There’s also the 5% listing fee → that’s 2g upfront to put up a 40g item, not a problem for richer sellers, but the listing fee limits the price if you don’t have a lot of gold.
Those “irrational” decisions can be annoying, but sometimes people don’t play the game like you do, and don’t give much value to in-game money.
