That particular vid is a crit showreel on upleveleds and overally low armored opponents.
If you want to see a more realistic SD gameplay in the nowdays environment you should watch this.
I made it to look like a parody of that vid since today you only meet mostly 3k+ armor players
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl6z-RjPUGg
I see no monitors on the turret frame either.
Very nice video!
Good and entertaining gameplay, nice music and +1 for using a POWER build
Hope to see more in the future.
In my honest opinion I found the toolkit to be a bit too “meh” to be worth a slot and prefer having the battering ram.
The toolbelt is almost as fast to recharge but also a huge amount of normal damage. It also gives an extra fast knockback.
Also, I found putting 10 poitns into explosives rather than inventions worked better for the burning for 4s trait and an extra 100 power.Full berserker gear with rubies complements this build greatly and enabling you to deal heaps more damage, and in wvw, can hit up to 4K dmg alone by just using the rams toolbelt skill.
I can assure you that the static discharge build with my traits and utilities+toolbelt skills will do MORE damage than a nade build.
Actually, toolkit vastly outperforms battering ram in any possible way.
Ram does slightly higher damage but it only hits one target,
Throw wrench not only hits anything in its way, but it does it TWICE since it deals damage also in the returning phase, in addiction it has shorter recharge.
The kit itself also gives:
Pry bar, which has a very short cd, deals huge damage and also apply 5 confusion stacks.
Magnet pull, which is one of the best control skills ingame since it has a ridicolous range and can be combined with prybar+ blunderbluss for high burst, or overcharged shot for a control nightmare.
Gear shield, which is a 3 sec block on a 16 cd, lifesaver.
Box of nails, which even if it’s pretty tricky and not really that great, it will still cripple following enemies.
Smack, which is gold against reflect projectile enemies, allowing you to still do high damage on em, also hits very hard with mesmer’s time warp.
I don’t see any possible scenario in which all this is outperformed by a 45 seconds melee range knockback.
You can however consider to use both in pve, and remove googles which, given its very long recharge, may not be the best option if you don’t plan to use the stunbreaker + analize for the burst combo (which is mostly for pvp).
whats the build of your guardian?
I put a link in the description, however its a fun build i came up in like 5 minutes, its nothing serious.
Benn E says bene to your videos. molto ben fatto.
Ahah
Grazie
Nice video! whats your build?
The build is in the yt description, it’s pretty famous right now so you can find it pretty much everywhere, but that’s the version i use.
Hello, many of you will know me for the crit vids i did in the past (100 nades vid got linked like everywhere to blame for its opness XD) right now i’m basically no longer playing, but b4 quitting completely i wanted to do another vid for fun.
This time i went to conditions, but since i’m a pretty frenzied player that loves high paced mindless playstyle the only possible choice was the now infamous HGH nades build.
The video as usual is very “gimmicky” with fit music, high dps/burst, fast paced gameplay, noobs plowing, fun stuff etc, and it’s aim is just to entertain people with that, trying not to be boring to see and not pretending to be either a build guide or an high level skill display.
I do tons of mistakes since i’ve been playing that build for the mere duration of the recording (1 weekend, after a 2 months break) but i still think it’s pretty enjoyable, and the music this time is in an “old school” gaming video style which i personally love, and that gives me nostalgic feelings.
Also, the intro is a fun sequel of the 100 nades vid.
Hope you enjoy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyQivtpg8jA
There also was a level 80 “thief” cut scene i had to put on a separate link that was supposed to be the movie ending, here it is:
http://youtu.be/8wY6nMNjlXU
I must say however that the video is a little gimmicky.
On the average t6+ situation you do like half of the damage you see, and the video was recorded in early december, back when it wasn’t very popular and engineer was known to deal low damage.
Right now people know it and know how to counter the build which makes it almost useless since it’s power relies in surprise burst.
It’s still a lot of fun and one of the best noob plowing builds out there thou, if that’s what you want you’ll have fun.
SD builds are more fun oriented like most glass cannon builds.
When it comes to group fights you lack some major defenses like condition removal or an “oh kitten button”.
Don’t get me wrong, you got a long range and easy to land burst and if you get used to the build you can still kick kitten even vs good people, but it’s way harder and you gotta be very “aware” of what happens in the battlefield.
HGH pays a lot more in hard situations, and it’s vastly more solid, even if your long range burst doesn’t even come close
However i would choose the one you like the most to play, they’re both decently effective overall and luckily in this game you can perform with almost anything if you play well.
For my personal taste, i prefer sd glassy builds because they feel a lot more “on the edge”, and when i want to go for a more solid and tactic playstyle i switch to my condition gear, and go hgh with that.
just my 2 cents.
It must have been a blast to play that, i’m amazed on how many things happened in 30 minutes.
Actually i even stopped playing for that reason, for every minute of fight i had to search enemies for 15, maybe i should just have changed realm XD.
However very entertaining and solid video, you already mastered this build aswell (the small mistakes of the previous video are gone, and your gameplay improved a lot with this build)
also the engineer duel was fun.
Good job
(edited by Iddiozzia.3489)
Nice!
I still liked more the solo part than the 2 man one, but it’s due to personal taste, it was still pretty good.
I think this build is much more entertaining to see than the previous one, also provides a way higher skill cap to be mastered so it gives more chances to really outplay the enemy and get masterpiece clips.
Keep it up.
P.S. lol @ the static discharge engineer in the first clip.
looks very entertaining to watch, hope to see some pain inverter “bonus stage” aswell :P
Can’t wait.
It’s clearly intended to be a nerf to kit refinement builds in general (don’t know why).
It leaves 100 nades completely the way it is.
If you’re forced to equip toolkit b4 unleashing your grenade burst, you can just jump and problem solved.
I can tolerate Elixir H-B and even C rng, but elixir S toolbelt, X , and U toolbelt need to change, quickly.
The difference between the skills is so big that even when it procs the right effect for a particular situation you are so used to get the wrong ones that you don’t even care anymore.
I NEVER rely on those effects anymore, and avoid using em if i can, except for elixir S that is mandatory in almost every build, even for the utility skill itself.
A good group of well organized people is unkillable if they turtle right now.
So no, damage is fine IF not too low when talking about conditions (the issue is the ease in removing em)
The only problem right now is how good a full zerker player perform in small environments.
Thieves in berserker gear perform very good so in 1v1 you will not only lose, but also get 2hitted because he needs 0 toughness to be effective “overall”.
A guardian with 0 toughness and 11k hp will be dead meat, that’s why you will never see one, but it still deals tons of damage, i once critted 9.4k with the torch fireball.
If they want to fix bursts when skirmishing, they need to make that no classes/builds perform good with glass cannon gear in 1v1, 2v2 and such, but can still be effective in big groups, like staff elementalist, but i honestly don’t feel the need of it.
There are much bigger issues in wvw right now.
ascended from map completion?
worth gold?
Maybe I am the one missing something.
I’ve been trying out for the past week some glassy grenade variations in fractals 10+, and honestly i’m more worried about damage than survival.
The burst is insane, but the damage is too spiky in the average encounters, and hardly gets out to its finest, even if you risk a lot into “meleeing” em with jumpshot blunderbluss & grenade barrage combo.
I had no particular issues in surviving, not really a big difference between that and the classic elixir build in prec tough con.damage gear, but again, it’s hard to tell if i REALLY do so much more DPS.
I tried a grenade variation of elixir build with rampager (and some carrion) and the dps was really high, the condition damage was great since i was stacking might to around a flat 15 with 20+ spikes and the power given to the grenade explosions was good aswell, also being very long range + constant conditions, it was a lot more concrete.
OFC without a proper dps calculator it’s really hard to tell, but in terms of flexibilty, and damage uptime (in one word DPS) i think that cond still outshines power builds by a lot, even if the eye can be tricked by those 10k+ istant burst combos.
However i’m not a big pve expert tbh, actually i’m pretty poor @ it, but having played both ways for some time, that’s what i felt about it.
(edited by Iddiozzia.3489)
Yep, I Agree on being your best video so far!
As usual very concrete gameplay and quality content.
Music was a bit “odd” for a pvp movie but it’s pretty enjoyable.
Because it’s an higher tier gear, and i’m forced to do something i don’t want to in order to get it.
I’m aware of the fact that actually ascended gear purpose is to counter agony level in fractal, but with increased stats your character gets better in world events, other dungeons and wvw, which is wrong.
I don’t pretend to have that from laurels, but i do pretend to have another way to get it outside fractals, maybe wvw.
The chance to be on par with gear while playing the way i like the most was one of the main reasons why i bought this game, and that’s definetly going to be the reason for me to quit it, if i’m no longer allowed to.
To be obtainable outside of fractal in the future?
Rings and amulet are now obtainable with dailies, which is great, but what about the back piece?
Will i still be forced to get into fractals to get it in near future?
I wouldn’t even bother learnin how to counter him, you’ll probably won’t meet him again and engineers are very different from each others.
However there’s only one thing you should watch for when fighting random engineers, it’s retailation and confusion.
99 % of players that gets killed by a bunker engi simply kill themselves with those
question is:
Is there a point playing wvw at all?
I still don’t see any progression/reward right now, and to play just to get your whole server to the top, while 80 % of wvwers goes there just for the daily is pointless and not entertaining.
Don’t get me wrong, i have a lot of fun roaming in wvw, but i see no purpose for that, you just play, have fun, logout.
Am i the only one having insane lag spikes and wierd characters behaviour this week?
And only in RoS borderlands O_O
I wrote it here since it looks like other people see wierd things happen to players.
(edited by Iddiozzia.3489)
Well if you compare condition damage to the burst of glass cannon classes it’s clear that the second one will prevail.
To have a good burst you gotta use 3 stats togheter, power prec & crit damage.
For conditions you basically only need condition damage, then you can focus on more valuable stats, that can still be power & prec, but can also be tough, vit or whatsoever.
That’s why condition builds are usually more survivable than bursty ones.
If you go with power only with 0 crit chance & 0 crit damage your output will be lower than it would with Condition damage. (in most cases).
The problem right now is that they’re just to easy to remove, and most of the ways to do it right now are skills that players just spam mindlessly
That makes sense.
Also answers why they ususally do that with 10+ items of a kind.
Hello, i’m just the average guy that lurks the trading post, to sell and buy some stuff when waiting friends and such.
Yesterday, i found an item that was listed for like 30s buy, and over 80s sell.
I sold it and then bought like 2 more for 30s hoping to sell them aswell.
When i came back like 2 hours later the selling price was dropped, which is normal and part of the economy i guess, BUT…
Checking the selling list i saw that 1 guy, dropped the price from those 80s to like 45, and that with more than 10 items.
The first thing i tought was that this guy must have been completely nuts so i moved along to similiar items and noticed that it’s a pretty common practice, especially for people that sells high amount of items.
So the question is, is there any possible reason for this to happen, or are just some dumb players/bots that love to downprice items that SELLS WELL even @ double the price?
Very Very good build guide, one of the best and more accurate guides overall actually.
I’m not a big fan of this build, i’ve been trying a slightly different version of it and as you said, good players that learnt (the hard way) what you can do hardly get caught a second time, even due to the difficult nature of the burst itself (a little lag or bad connection and there’s no way to get inside the enemy model).
However it still keeps some very good utilities and a lot of burst blocking skills which is great and makes it actually pretty playable even in glass cannon gear.
The skill cap for this build is very high, and the difference between good and bad players is something you see the very first moment you meet one, which is good.
i’ve been practicing for the past few days and as soon as i mastered it i had very good duels, even against the most fearsome classes/build.
Also for some reasons, it seems that in spvp it does = or even more damage than in wvw, even with huge crit damage, probably that’s due to the much better latency.
Good job.
It’s a build that have been there (even stronger back then) since day1.
It has a huge burst but any decent player knows how to avoid it, as it’s extremely predictable.
It’s very good @ plowing noobs but that’s not really something other builds can’t do.
The only thing that may be op vs good players is that engineers starts with a pretty high hp base even in glass cannon gear, and with elixir s and toolkit block you can still be pretty survivable against direct damaging builds.
However aoes are gonna get nerfed soon, that probably gonna include grenade barrage.
So….
Good video, and very usefull build for unlocking stall situations on huge zergs.
I hope bombs won’t get hurt by incoming aoe nerfs, even if it’s very likely to happen.
Greetins from a fellow engineer in RoF
Very solid gameplay and awesome clips.
Also enjoyed the music (the first one is awesome).
Hope to see more.
My only complaint is that some of the fights are against lowbie enemies but I guess thats ok since you are mainly trying to show off the crazy high numbers.
Yeah, you are right XD especially in the last video i was madly searching for lowbies to catch on tape a 13k jumpshot crit that i once managed to get, sadly i didn’t make it. :P
Hello, many of you have already seen my video about wvw fun with the now (in)famous Lightning discharge build.
I Wanted to share all the 3 videos i made in a single thread even if they’re pretty similar just so show some fun rifle build action in full glass cannon gear while roaming WvW.
WARNING:
These videos were made “for fun” so don’t expect any guide, tpvp or advanced tactics but just some fun gameplay and big crits.
1° video
This started as a joke, many engineer friends were asking me how could i do so much damage, so i showed em.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kaYsIR0kYg
2° video
This is the video i posted some time ago here, it’s shows a more various gameplay with a bonus lol part in the end, (i had to reupload it for copyright reasons)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWx1jsRt9OQ
3° video
This is using a different build, to show the MAX damage achievable by this class and this build, its pretty short but intense and full of insane crits ^^
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgEyg769cDc
Watch in HD, hope you enjoy as much as i did in making em.
Build, gear, whatsoever are in the YT description.

@ClaviculaNox
Honestly, i’ve been playing this build time to time since the release (like many of us i istantly came up with this, since it’s pretty simple) mostly for my videos as it’s very entertaining to watch, but when i rolled the engineer i didn’t really imagined this as the “engineer gameplay”.
If it gets nerfed in trade of some decent buffs to kits and stuff i won’t be too sad, i’d love to play a really versatile (AND EFFICIENT) engineer that is not the classic bunker build.
(edited by Iddiozzia.3489)
That’s right, destroying your turret activate static shot But be warned, since it’s not a targeted ability, you’ll have to be careful and try to use it melee range. The Static Discharge won’t target your ennemy, it will go directly toward you. Also don’t forget that exploding your turret also does damage.
*
And also you should say that explosion, like surprise shot can be used while blocking, evading, stunned & so on.
Tbh i don’t really need insane burst, i don’t want to jump on target and one hit them like thieves do, i already got my engi & ele for that.
What i really want is to roam the map looking for good 1vX or small group fights.
My greatest fear is that opponents run away from me easily, so i can’t get the kill, or that i can’t even engage em since they move faster.
Ofc i don’t pretend to catch a running thief, but i’d like to be able to chase running people and to get out of trouble if i see the enemy zerg in sight.
And in doing that, warrior looks a lot better.
Guys i’ll ask a question here since i and don’t really know much about guardian or warriors at level 80.
I got both to level 20 right now and i can’t decide which one i should choose (mainly for wvw skirmishing and small group fights)
From the thread i could learn that warriors are more fit in the hit n run role so it would be the right choice, yet i like guardian spells much more and i wanted to know if it’s possible to do that on a guardian aswell.
In short, i need to know if it’s possible to build the guardian as a very mobile unit that hit n runs decently, worse than warriors or thieves ofc, but still fairly playable.
I couldn’t find any build/thread/video of a bursty roamer guardian so i’m asking it here cuz i don’t want to find out at level 80 that guardian can only be a support tank or a fairly damaging but not mobile prof, i need mobility to be the priority for what i want to do.
I honestly think that you guys should take a step back, and understand the fact that we’re discussing class balance, in a wvw skirmishing video.
I think that the level 15 guardian clip should be the proof that everything pretty much works there, where all you do is to just kill some random people.
Class balance should be discussed where it matters, in sieges , in pve and in tpvp where an underpowered/overpowered class can really ruin your game.
Any discussion about how powerful or broken the class is, imho it’s pointless in this particular part of the game since there’s nothing to lose, or to win but fun.
I’m sorry that the video can’t be seen in some countries (only germany right now XD) i’ll try to fix that somehow.
Vigor and Adrenal Implant do not stack in sPvP. I haven’t tested in PvE/WvW, but you may be wasting a tier 3 trait.
Is there a reason why you have Infused Precision and Speedy Kits?
You are right,
I remember it stacking only while in combat back then (in pve) but i tested it now and even in combat it doest not work anymore.
Thanks for the info, it’s funny how i wasted the tier 3 trait for so long time xD.
The specific traits in the build are the ones that i used in the video, i often swap em on the situation.
The reason i use infused precision and speedy kits together in wvw is to have a more concrete sprint and sustained dps in any possible situation since endurance is not only your survivability but also a 10 % damage boost when it’s full, in wvw enemies are more spread and tend to run away, that’s why any gain in mobility for me it’s gold.
It’s more a choice based on personal taste than real utility.
In Spvp i would swap both rifle range and infused precision to blind on crit and probably rifle recharge rate since in close range rifle skills are pretty good.
And probably i would also drop the last 5 points on tools for the bomb on dodge, that combined with perma-vigor and full power gear, deals quite good damage.
Looks like she is running a class cannon build. Probably going down the precision tree, maybe full on donw the tool.
Yeah this build is very situational I feel. Good awesome video to watch. But they were either underleveled, or you just got the jump on em (though that fight vs the perma theif made me laugh).
Just in case the devs watch this video, this doesn’t mean we need to be nerfed, so please don’t nerf. Our class still needs a ton of work before it can be considereed good. The guardian portion of this video more symbolizes the problems with the class balance more than anything.
Ofc, it’s a decent skirmishing build in wvw, but almost pointless in large group fights (as it doesn’t bring anything to the team) and completely glass cannon so since unlike thieves we’re not invisible when you get jumped, you just die.
And in spvp it doesn’t do this much damage.
P.s.
Added build & gear set.
Hello, i wanted to share this video with the engineer community, since it seems that most people are not satisfied with the damage of the class.
I made it for fun so it’s nothing serious (tpvp, build guide or stuff like that) but it shows some big crits, some group fights, 1vX clips, some 1v1 vs “infamous” builds and a bonus level 15 guardian in wvw clip XD with music.
I hope you enjoy.

For the thief itself, having faced tons of them i think that :
-Mobility is fine, it’s their survivability.
-Stealth needs some work due to culling (yesterday IE a thief fully unloaded his pistols to me while invisible) but i’m fine with being a big part of the class.
-Damage is not fine.
Imho the biggest mistake that all assassins/thiefs/rogues developers make about this type of class is that their biggest damage comes when they’re invisible, making it uncounterable and forcing them to play the way we all know.
This should be inverted, their biggest burst should be while they’re visible so that they expose themself into danger when they try to score a kill, and stealth should be used as a defensive skill, in order to recover and appear again to continue the fight.
In every single game i’ve ever played, assassin/thiefs/rogues and so on have always been the most frustrating class to face for that reason, please be the first to break this chain, because i love this game’s pvp, and i don’t want it to die for stupid reasons like this.
Also i think that a big issue right now is not only about the thief itself, but quickness + finisher or stealth + finisher.
Taken that the game is not balanced in 1v1, what makes the thief so “hated” in group fights is that he just pops to you while a second b4 was bilion miles away, istantly kills you, finish you and easily get away even when you’re in a group of 5+ people.
Downed state is there to prevent this, and quickness or stealth (also invulnerability/block/pet) while finishing just negates the complete existence of it.
Thanks for your time and sorry for the WoT
I regurarly do WvW with low level characters, ofc i don’t look for 1v1 or small group fights, but if you go there with a group, especially guild groups you can still do your part (get in sieges, support your team, grab supplies, etc).
One thing that could partially solve this problem is that traits in wvw should be fully unlocked from level 10, because that’s the real problem.
Hypothetically a level 40 in full rares got enough stats to be decent, even in small fights, but without traits, he has no synergies in his build and misses some of the key traits for the profession to work.
