When you are invis, you’re still using your health bar. Mist form 75cd. Rampage is an elite. Vengeance is a somewhat very conditional situation.

When you are in Deathshroud, you have another set of hp, you have another set of skills, you can enter this state frequently. It is very different to your examples.

There are A LOT of things other classes get to do that can be considered absurd when compared to necro.. like doing damage… I dont think its much to think necro should be able to finish or revive in DS.

I’m just saying, the examples you used aren’t on the same grounds as what you are putting forward.

If you said ‘mesmers can stomp in invis, thieves can’t stomp in invis, thief should be able to stomp in invis, then yes, you have a point’. But we are discussing two different things here. Deathshroud has its own set of strengths and weaknesses.

I’m not attempting to compare the things i listed to DS directly, simply the fact that you CAN defend against Death Shround while you CANNOT defend against invulnerability/stability/invis makes me think it is less deserving of a finish / revive restriction.

But to satisfy your need for an identical comparison. Why can warriors finish or revive inside Rampage but Necros are restricted inside Lich Form? They both grant stability for the duration, they’re both transformations and they both replace every ability on their hotbar.

necro is really strong vs mesmer just cause we have a lot of on demand pbaoe and ranged AoE that shuts down 50% of their dmg (phatasms or illusion shattering)

I prefer 30 in soul reaping for stability and larger DS pool that way i can anticipate their stun+2 phantasm bursts and be immune to the dmg and the stun while killing the pets at the same time with DS #4.

Elementalist can do both from mist form
Theif and Mesmer can do both while invis
Engineer can do both while mini’d
Warrior can do both while in either rampage or vengeance

We dont go immune to dmg, we dont go invisible, we dont go immune to CC.. yet we’re not allowed to finish or res.. wtf?

At this point the 3 faction system is starting to sound like “cut taxes” in that it never seems to work but people always want it. But I dont think GW2’s current results say anything about 3 factions at all. There are too many other factors and variables at play to say 3 factions doesn’t accomplish its purpose.

Server Transfers
Lack of Reward (motivation)
Same classes/races
Same world
Bots
Population restrictions
AoE restrictions

There are no real mechanics in place to keep players on their given server.

In DAOC sometimes it was the fact that there were no transfers and time spent was significant enough to keep players on their faction/server. Or that they preferred one faction/race/class/setting over the others not available to the other sides. Or that there was reward worth continuing to try for. Or that artificial limitations on populations weren’t in place and not exacerbated by the fact that Bots take up those spots as well. Also Population imbalances were alleviated a lot by organization in which a smaller group could easily destroy a larger unorganized one.

GW2 does not have any of these things and in most cases compound the issues with pop imbalances. This shouldnt reflect on the 3 faction system at all when considering everything else thats done wrong.

The fact that downed state eliminates a chance for lesser numbers to win in WvW which already have huge odds stacked against them with aoe caps and culling (and numbers), makes me hate it.

Axe is my favorite weapon at the moment for a berserker 30 spite/30 reaping build. Axe offers -on demand- Life force which is WAY more powerful than a trickle that dagger or staff offer. This is especially true for builds focused on staying in shade as long as possible or as often as possible. Use up shade form – Axe #2 – Back into shade form.

I can only imagine GW2 and pretty much every PC game for the next 5 years running better on Win 7 since thats what they’re developed on. The whole DRM / Appstore thing is a huge put off as well. Steam/Valve is also a large determining factor and they seem to dislike Win 8 with a passion.

Last week SoR, Yaks and NSP had an extremely competitive matchup the difference only widening to a total of 4 or 5k durring the last hours. How is this rewarded? NSP and Yaks moved down a rank and SoR didnt have any adjustment. Because the bracket below us is imbalanced the winner there usually winning by a large margin they gain an undeserved abundance of points propelling them into the next bracket FORCING a team that showed an extremely competitive capability into a lower tier.

How can this be intended? Basically this is showing that INTENTIONALLY losing in order to fight weaker brackets the next week is the fasted way to gain points and currently the only way worlds move up or down the bracket.

Why grind out a +0-10 bracket when you could throw a match and win the next one gaining +100? In fact you couldn’t grind a bracket out if you wanted to because of that system which perpetually drops competitive teams out of a bracket to make room for the welfare point winners.

Competitive matchups need to gain points equally as great as those teams winning blowout matchups.

If a matchup is something like

They should gain appropriate denominations scaling downward from first to last in comparison to a team that wins a matchup like.

While losing teams beyond a certain threshold should lose points of the same significance.

This would continue until all the brackets become competitive matchups making a scenario where grinding out close first & second places is the only way to move up the brackets and blowouts would be rare and even more significant.

This way winning worlds as well as COMPETITIVE worlds are constantly move UP the bracket and the losing worlds move DOWN the bracket. As opposed to right now where blowout matches are propelling worlds way to far up the bracket and punishing competitive worlds with stagnancy and even negative bracket movement.

Currently the only maps GoM owns anything on would be its own map, and EB. We don’t own much on our own map. We got doubled all night there. We have been completely pushed off SoR and YB; again double teamed. Apparently YB and SoR are ignoring EB, because we have Stonemist.

I just left SoRs map. We spawn in the bottom right, we owned nothing when my guild ported in. We took supply in the bottom right of the map (forget the name), and went up to take the tower just north of our spawn. We got sandwiched by SoR and EB. At one point SoR actually ran past EB and didn’t attack them at all.

Is there some “lets group up and double GoM” threads on reddit or somewhere else? Seriously

Its just not true… When i was in EB and SoR was losing everything Yaks took the top 4 towers and Supply camps from SoR and GoM took the bottom 4. Neither side even had swords at any of their camps or towers on the West side of map (where GoM and Yaks meet).

As far as borderlands are concerned the maps are intentionally split so that whoever is the origin world is double teamed with one team going west and the other east. The only real double teaming that can hapkitten when either of the contesting worlds try to cross the south bridges over the ruins and start doing that back and fourth crap that grows into zergs banging on doors for no reason and has nothing to do with intentionally double teaming and more to do with how dumb solo players are.

I can think of a few reason english speaking EU players might prefer the US servers.. namely that everyone speaks english, this is probably the main reason. Another might be that with its wide timezone gap, US servers generally have a “primetime” that lasts at least 3 hours longer than you would see on a primarily UK server.

I can’t think of a good reason to play on EU servers… The potential of being mocked just for being an American doesn’t help the case

TBH i am somewhat impressed, i imagined GoM eventually going up against Kaineng. Might have something to do with GoM being dropped down 4 places to fight lower population servers. Kind of sad, rank 16-18 is an entire losers bracket, enjoy your stay.

Theres no treaty between SoR and NSP.

SoR just has very flaky zergs that prefer weaker targets so Yak’s get’s it.

I want to keep playing because…

I want to believe the classes are not set in stone and could have drastic changes made to them.

PvE Raid and Dungeon content might still be added without lack luster dynamic event scripts trivializing it. (give us the boss and let go of our hands)

A PvX zone might be added to WvW

WvW maps might be redesigned (less objectives, more space) to allow for more roaming groups

Culling and AoE caps could be removed allowing for small man vs zerg.

A WvW Alternate Advancement system could be added with public leaderboards.

Downed State or at least the momentary Immunity might be removed in PvP.

A publicly visible spvp Elo system with solo/duo tournament options might be added.

More Spvp gametypes might be added, arena/koth/mini WvW/dota, etc…

New Weapon Types and Classes might be added frequently.

And then i snap to reality for a bit and realize that there’s a high probability that none of this could happen, and that GW2 will always only be what it is right now and i feel a little sick to my stomach. I can’t see myself doing WvW for the sake of WvW in 3 months, Spvp is not an option for me as a solo/duo player not only in lack of support for competitive play as a solo/duo but in complete lack of variety in gameplay, and I’ve already ran out of things i want to do in PvE.

I don’t mean for this post to sound like a “i quit” post because im NOT quitting, i do still find fun in WvW at the moment. I just have a lot of concerns with the (lack of) long term goals of the game. I wish there was a Development Diary or something that gave some insight to the games future. What is actually being looked at as a high possibility and what is not changing etc. I don’t expect promises, just ANYTHING, even the slightest evidence that i’m not investing my time into a dying game with a stale future.

I agree an AA system is needed to keep players interested long-term. Not so much to be more powerful than new players but to show off with Skins, titles, unique weapons, unique siege… etc saying…

Not really, DAOC’s predecessor tried the 2 faction system and it failed miserably. However what made DAOC’s 3 faction system work does not exist in Guild Wars 2; Permanent match ups, Alternate Advancement, and Winner spoils, among other minor things.

The 3 factions in theory are supposed to self regulate based on the 2 weaker sides teaming up on the strong one. This would require much longer, or permanent matchups for the communication to penetrate the non-forum going (majority) community. Not to mention, all of the effort put into forming cross-faction alliances would be a complete waste when they are matched against completely different servers week to week. It also requires there to be a goal for the teams to want to accomplish in order to stimulate this communication. As it stands there is no end goal or benefit to “winning” or attempting to maintain points in the face of inevitable defeat.

Invisibility is the biggest issue imo, these 2 classes happening to be the only ones with constant access to it. The ability to deal damage and then avoid recoil… constantly having the “first attack” advantage is just too strong imo.

As an old Ever Quest player, when i see a Necromancer and a Warrior i cringe a bit that there isn’t a Shadowknight. So that gets my vote! Although there is also a “missing link” between Warrior and Guardian as well, a smite crazy Cleric would be pretty awesome.

The last data I saw had an overwhelming majority of transfers from servers with long queu times (generally from winning servers), to servers with short queu times (generally to losing servers). There are some people going to the winning servers, but the simple truth is the vast majority are not.

That being said, we are working on long term improvements to queus, transfers, and WvW content in general. We’ll talk more about this in the future as features/plans get closed to being finalized.

Well i’ve got some news for you “Colin” if that is your real name. I transferred from a losing server to a winning server, and that makes it the majority because this is the internet.

I like your build, have you considered using Flesh Golem over Lich? as a power build it hits like an absolute truck, keeps things snared for ya and has a great knockdown for when we do well bursting (and adds to that burst needles to say).

So servers with 8 hour que times will have 4 hour que times.. uh.. way to make a difference? not to mention they would have to make a new zone from scratch.

I don’t understand the logic here? If done correctly the WvW zones would effectively become a 2 world fight while the third one being the majority owners would be inside the new zone at least the vast majority would be. Furthermore the winner of that 2 world fight would go inside the dungeon in order to kick out the original owners, giving the last server a chance to take keeps from even less forces to gain majority ownership to enter the new zone as well while the other 2 are occupied inside the new zone. And yes, they would have to make a new zone, i don’t see an issue with this, they’re making money content is expected.

Its a domino effect of balance really.

I would rather see a Realm Rank system put in place first.

I agree there should be a Realm Rank or in EQ terms “Alternate Advancement” to a character after reaching cap. I remember in DAOC the biggest discrepancy in player power was between RR0 and RR5, after that, while the benefits were significant enough for players to want to achieve, they were not so that a RR5 was at an insurmountable disadvantage against an RR9 for example.

However the gap in power would be much less significant based on GW2’s item progression showing that people will already invest time in earning minuscule stat advantages like the difference between a lvl 78 exotic and 80 exotic being only 2 to 5 stat points. It wouldn’t be difficult to imagine players wanting to increase base statistics by similar increments per “realm rank” or unlocking interesting utilities and elites skills. Depending on the level scale the difference between a Rank 0 and rank “max” could be something like 50pnt’s per stat which is far less of an advantage than the current bolster system with players under lvl 80 missing hundreds of stats compared to lvl 80 exotic chars.

Yes, they mean that the only people who will gain advantage are the ones at #1. Everyone else will have the problem of [Win This Week]?[Seeded Higher]?[Lose Next Week] and will never be able to hold the WvE zone for more than a week. Worse yet, ranks #2 and #3, assuming they are close enough to #1 not to be dropped down to second tier, will never get to enter the WvE zone as they’ll be stuck fighting a neverending war against the strongest server, whereas lower ranked servers which swap seed positions every week will at least get to see the zone once a month.

The whole idea behind how Darkness Falls alleviates this problem is in making the rewards inside appealing enough to draw the players away from WvW in order to it make it easier for the other teams to take objectives in WvW. It would still incorporate the current point bracket system which will eventually pit teams of similar strength against each other so that any loss of active WvW players on one side would be easily abused by the other sides. It doesn’t take 100% map ownership to open the zone, as low as 34% would be enough depending on the circumstances which is more than possible by a losing team given the dominate team is spread thinner by zone ownership. It would give more meaning to the current rankings because they would represent actual WvW player activity and coordination because players will WANT to WvW after the initial weekend regardless of losing. As opposed to now where it’s just a tool to see which server people are transferring to.

Anybody who has played DAOC knows what Darkness Falls is and how amazing it worked as a PvP incentive as well as balancer.

For those that do not know, in GW2 terminology would be a Zone (similar to any normal leveling zone in size and complexity), completely separate from WvW, yet linked to it in that only one server would have access to it at a time based on who has majority control over Keeps/Points. Within the zone is PvE content ranging from lowest level to max to “raid level” content. The team currently inside is not removed if control is lost, instead the enemy must kill them to remove them from the zone.

What this zone does, is give an incentive to continue to WvW. It also gives a huge advantage to those losing teams because the winning team will be spread much thinner as they’re inside “Darkness Falls” instead of WvW. It creates a delicate balancing act to WvW, deciding whether guilds or individuals what to keep farming within DF or to continue holding keeps in WvW for your World to remain inside.

This type of zone also used a token system for obtaining gear, at the time it was “seals” of different tiers depending on the level of content being cleared. However, GW2 already has an unused currency related to WvW they could use…. BADGES! which could be looted from mobs similar to how they are looted from keep lords or supply camp guards currently. Loot rewards that at the time of its release were considered the best in the game (basically crafted exotic level stuff in the case of GW2, and could offer unique stat combinations that currently aren’t offered).

Darkness Falls also offered a very very unique style of “WvW” to keep pvp interested. It was basically a last man standing dynamic. Your team would band together to survive as long as possible before inevitably being kicked out, and those deaths just fueled players even more to go back out to WvW and regain majority control in order to get back inside and seek revenge. Even more so, as there are no keeps or clear objectives inside this zone besides “loot camps” it made small man PvP much more appealing, roaming around to avoid or catch players or other groups off guard was extremely satisfying.

Right now, WvW is already becoming stale, players dont want to lose and stop playing or transfer, players who are winning have nothing left to take and stop playing, and everybody is gaining absolutely nothing in terms of personal progression by doing WvW.

So in a tldr version here is what Darkness Falls solves.

-Overpopulated WvW (invisible zergs/lag) are thinned out.
-Underpopulated Worlds have a fighting chance at earning points.
-Players get a way to continue progressing their characters in WvW.
-Players will WANT to WvW regardless of losing. (fixing moral)
-Server Rankings might actually mean something.
-Gives a clear objective for players to want to contribute to.
(arbitrary points don’t mean anything to most people)

Condition jewels (THE THING SOCKETED INSIDE THE AMULET) and Condition runes are an absolute waste in Spvp, you’re getting 14 dmg out of them. The amulet alone with no additional condition modifiers will give you 100 dmg ticks on bleeds. Freeing up Runes and Jewel will give u room to build tankier or more bursty

This happens to me constantly inside the Eternal Battleground jumping puzzle. Some elementalist will be at the top of the Beast Pit Arena and shooting people through the walls into the Dark Room or further.

Normal people only play video games between 4 and 8 pm EST. Thanks for the heads up. Also I checked in at around 7:30 pm and TC was at 400+. Thanks for sharing your whine with us though, can never get enough of that sort of thing.

Not even pretending that GoM takes a majority in points at any time. But we do take plenty of keeps and towers for the duration of our very specific and short windowed prime time. . Although they are quickly lost to SoS and TC players PvEing Red keep doors when nobody is defending. But yea pat yourselves on the back, you have an off hour ghost army which you have no affiliation with, that artificially inflates and maintains your “teams” points!

No amount of stat buffs will help you kill players you cannot hit because there is a 5 person cap on AoEing. If you’re out numbered you lose, plain and simple.

All a stat buff would do is give an advantage when the populations AREN’T imbalanced in a given area, which defeats the whole purpose.

Why is it the full duration of bleed damage is lower than that of the normal power abilities?? Whats the point of focusing on bleed/poison/burning damage if the end result is miles behind what could of been done with normal power attacks regardless of toughness?

(2800 attack, 1400 condition)

I have a full berserker set and a condition set, its not even funny how much more dmg i can do just auto attacking as a power crit build (even with scepter)

Bleed stack caps and constant removal in pvp just add insult to injury.
