Please tell me you are not going to kill off Jormag/Primordus in a cutscene or something?
So far found only three – they are interactable, and upon doing so, one of them leaked water, one blasted fire and one released some noxious gas… Anyone found anything like that?
The longer the farewell’s take, the harder it is to let go, so I’ll be short – may your smile, dedication, enthusiasm and all qualities of a great man inspire others, just as they inspired countless players. Fear not, we shall bash all threats to Tyria, swinging our swords in your name. Farewell, Colin Johansson, and see you in Tyria!
So I’m not the only one to consider the notion that Glint was not actually this benevolent good ol’ dragon mama, that GW1 led us to believe she is? Wouldn’t be the first time Anet used this trope (Charr and human occupation of Ascalon). The thing that I find especially troubling is what Ogden said in ‘Echoes of the Past’ episode of Season 2 – that Glint was well on her way to becoming an Elder Dragon herself. As far as we know, Elder Dragons are not the most friendly creatures in the world. Glint having a hidden sinister agenda would make for a quite an interesting plot, where e.g races of Tyria are essentially used as tools to get rid of the other dragons that stand in Glints way.
I see two possible scenarios:
1. Raids are easy enough that you don’t need to calculate dps. This essentially means CGC has failed to be challenging. This would be a pretty big fail. If you can just faceroll it with any team comp after a week then what was the point?
2. Raids are hard enough that you need a balanced team comp with optimum dps. They will be hard and take practice, but they will lead to raid leaders coming here a few weeks after the raid launches in droves wondering why they can’t beat the raid and complaining they have no feedback about what they are failing at. At this point they will either require all their members to run an “illegal” meter or they will stop running raids.
Either way, raids will fail without having a way to get feedback on what is happening.
I love the logic behnd this, as it says:
“If raids can be defeated with anything that deviates slightly from optimal damage glass builds it’s not challening’.
Here’s hoping that Anet can deliver better than that…
I’m not as concerned about the existence of this or that meta (don’t lie to yourselves – there is always going to be a most optimal way to do something), but the fact that the meta, particularly in this game, seems to attract the most self-important kittens, and seems only to serve the purpose of stroking their egos over how much better they are than the rest of the plebs that they unfortunately need to share the game with. Eventually showing around how leet they are and how everybody should play their way, or be denoted as a casual/wannabe/tryhard/scrub/choose your own derogatory term, that is thrown so much around this forums (because obviously imagining that somebody is a good player and decides to not aim for optimizing gold per hour ingame is above mental capabilities of some people). The glass cannon builds are not a problem, vocal people with these attitudes are the real problem.
Check the dungeon forums to see how condescending the TOP LEET PLAYERS are towards anyone who doesn’t agree with them; check out snarky remarks towards the developers. Or no… don’t look. Shattering the image of helpful tolerant community is not what the game needs now.
I might get infracted for this post, but I don’t care. At least I still got a guild to run content with.
I have been coping with a very similar issue for some time (way before the graphics update) and it seems that this might be the case here. The problem most probably lies in TDR – Timeout Detection and Recovery feature in Windows Vista and Windows 7. When it detects that the graphics card ) has not responded within a certain timeframe, it forcibly restarts the driver or shuts it down to prevent potential malfunctions. The only workaround that worked for me was to manually change the TDR value in system registry, but I’d advise against it unless you are absolutely sure there is nothing that helps. Don’t want to invalidate the tech support here, just chiming in, as the described scenarios are most probably connected with TDR.
The whole problem of elitism would actually disappear if people who farm content for shinies weren’t kittenheads to each other. I don’t run all those meta speed parties, so I don’t destroy their perfect dungeon run plan. However… claiming loud and wide that if you are an experienced Player you have to go full glass zerk meta hurr durr and if you do not, you are a filthy casual scrub kinda itches my ‘block this kitten’ button. Guess what, there are people who play since the beginning and still have fun running the same stale content, and do not need/want to farm it. Are they ‘filthy casuals’ because of that? That seems to be the mindset – at least if we were to visit and judge by the ‘Dungeons’ subforum :P. This is the nature of elitism in the game. The problem is self-ego stroking and invaluating other players just because they don’t follow the meta, not the viability of rangers or necros. The new challenging content will make it even more jarring and you will be a casual if you can’t finish some imaginary super-hyper hard instanced raid or anything that we’ll get on the table…
I’m considering to get the pre-order, but I’d like a clarification – is the pre-order a boxed edition, that I would have to wait to get for a few days after launch because postal services are slow in my country? Or is it digital so right on the launch date i could start downloading the client, etc?
Ok, until the second 2 hours of testing comes (sadly I’ll probably not partake in it fully, have to go to work tomorrow nad catch some sleep), I’ll provide a short feedback about the beta.
- The Personal Story instance was well done, especially the fight with Mordrem Cavalier that was invulnerable to direct damage, while on his mount, but my condi build damaged him really fast, without even needing to take down his defiance bar (at least that’s how it looked like).
- Rytlock appearing seemingly from nowhere and Rox's less then enthusiastic reaction were... jarring. I really hope this will be worked on later, as it ruined the mood for me. On the other hand, Taimi trying to cheer Braham made me baww a little.
- Is the male voice actor the same, as it was in the Personal Story in vanilla? It sounded a bit different, I guess, I’ll have to get used to this…
- Map is really, really chaotic – it’s hard to navigate around, seems less open than other maps, more like GW1 maps with added verticality and without invisible walls. Maybe that’s because we still can’t access the two lower biomes.
- Lack of wyvern fight saddened me, as I was not able to playtest the first beta, nor play the demo.
- Events are fun and I like the fact that the AI seems much more aggressive than it used to be. The event where you need to guard the soldier planting explosives needs an adjustment on timer though.
- Masteries need a better tutorial – many people spent a long time trying to figure out why they can not use their mastery points to unlock the gliding, or mushroom jumping now. Seems that we need to get also a level up in addition to getting a mastery point.
- Many skills are lagging or sometimes not work at all, and often I died because of lack of a proper heal, or because I couldn’t summon my clones/phantasms.
This post will be updated later on, right before I go to sleep.
As far as I recall, there were some datamined bits floating on reddit about a mastery that allowed direct damage to be dealt to enemies with ‘Tough Bark’ (I’ve seen that Husks in Silverwastes have the Tough Bark already, although direct damage can be still applied to them). I can imagine many situations in the new content where pure condition builds traited for condi damage and duration will prove far superior or even necessary to overcome some of the mobs or obstacles. as for me, I’m really glad, as I always prefered damage-over-time classes and playstyle.
If that was the case, they would also remove the stack limit on torment and Vulnerability, but these were hardcapped still at 25…
Another one, 72 stacks of confusion! <instakill on skill usage, I’d say>
A screenshot taken during the beta wyvern fight by one of the testers. Is this a sign that conditions will finally be reworked for HoT, or just a glitch that shouldn’t happen?
Well, obviously I’m really hoping that I’ll be one of the chosen ones. That’d allow me to have access to HoT obviously, and have an awesome addition to my proffesional portfolio (maybe for future job at ArenaNet, right? :P. Just kidding). But as RNGsus is not at my side (two Imryldyeens on the same day from the MF, what the charr, Zommoros?), I’ll probably simply settle on waiting.
I wouldn’t have my hopes up. When Colin was asked (I think it was by AngryJoe), if we are going to fight and defeat Mordremoth, and will it not be as lacking as Zhaitan fight, he became extremely elusive, and did not answer specifically that question. Of course it would be EXTREMELY disappointing if we didn’t fight Mordy, but I get the hunch that we won’t, and the whole incident will be resolved with some Deus ex Machina tied to the story (if we’re lucky we’ll get a look at his corpse, or sth.)
Actually we found him a few hours before…
AngryJoe Interview - HoT Questions for Devs?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Invidia.9074
I got one important question:
Are we finally getting a condition mechanics rework, that would make conditions much more viable in PVE than they are now?
- 28 year old male
- bought Guild Wars 2 more than a year ago to play with my girlfriend, got in love with the game, left WoW
- an avid gamer, reader and RPer
- medieval re-enactment was my hobby for years (medieval archery). I want to get back to it soon.
- amateur illusionist
- working as a software tester for about 2 years now (console games, not Guild Wars 2 unfortunately – sad.jpg). Maybe one day…
- I was supposed to be a teacher, dropped it, I don’t even regret this decision.
- a cat person with no cat at all
- interested in scientific stuff, learning new skills to improve my job, etc.
For some time we had our crafting discipline-specific backpacks that we can make, however there is no Ascended tier for them. I propose adding a recipe to craft Ascended version of these backpacks, that would also serve as portable crafting stations.
I think that most of us still feel quite bitter about the personal storyline mess that was introduced with the NPE (continuity issues, switching places of some chapters, so that the Personal Story does not make sense in Orr, not to mention that people, who just only bought the game and will not be able to get the achievement for the deleted ‘Fear’ storyline). I think we all would like to have this one question answered – will the expansion pack address these issues, so that the Personal Story is consistent again?
(and I’m sorry if I’m sounding dry or ironic instead of polite – it’s late so I’m really sleepy now).
I did a thread about this in the Living World section of the forums.
Have you noted that the sky over Silverwastes is now all covered with stormclouds (as of this patch)?
I know I might be trying to see too much in it but… have you noticed the heavily clouded sky in the Silverwastes that we got now? I am pretty certain that it was not this way before Seeds of Truth got live. Also the bug with water splashes all around – it’s not a type of bug that would just randomly got into the code without any reason – as far as my knowledge goes (not sure if it’s applicable with GW2 as I’m not working with MMO games), this smight be an issue of a surface markup change – and such change most probably gives us hints about the future of the map. Let’s see:
1. We suddenly get skritt building a SHIP inm the caves under the Silverwastes.
2. We got ominous stormy clouds covering the sky, that as far as my memory goes were not in the Silverwastes before this patch got live.
3. We get an almost improbable bug on a map, that was here for some time, which showcases water splash effects, as if the whole area was flooded.
4. In two weeks we are going to get a ‘climactic ending’ to the season.
Am I the only one to think that Mordremoths rise will cause a giant flood or a tidal wave from the falls that will cover most of the Silverwastes and make it into a jungle?
I see it quite similarily…
In the last episode of the Season we are trying to launch an aerial assault on the awakening Mordremoth. Turns out that it only helps him to finally arise, the Pact fleet gets whooped, Trahearne dies heroically while saving you from ceratin death and giving you the leadership over the Pact (or it’s Canach trying to redeem for his sins). We get a beatiful cataclysmic teaser and a few months of waiting for Season 3 where maps like Dry Top, Silverwastes, and Brisban Wildlands are getting totally overrun by Mordrem and changed, while we are desperately trying to rally a new Pact to defeat Mordremoth.
I go a hunch it will be some name with an Arabic-like feel to it, since we have Largos whose names follow the same convention, and who can be one of the first living races that probably have met the effects of his corruption. I doubt the quaggans named it, or we’ll end with a Slooblupppplupp, even worse than Spongebob or Steve…
Maybe we should make this topic so that it has some organized feedback, so that ArenaNet staff would at least notice this – I think it’s rather not how we want the future Elder Dragon battles to look like. It’s more like what we do NOT want to see (like any cheesy way to kill an almost eldritch abomination that they could pull off)…
I really want to believe that ArenaNet WILL deliver at least somewhat satisfying fight with Mordremoth. The Players need to fight a dragon, heck, this is what the game was supposed to be about.
I don’t want to see the story’s finale being like one of these:
- Taimi ex machina (Taimi ingeniously uses Scarlet’s research to block/redirect magic from ley-lines and Mordy dies from hunger or goes back to sleep for Lyssa knows how long. Yay, Asura save the day, have a cookie, Commander of the Pact.
- Marjory Angst Machine (Marjory injects poisonous stuff into Ley Line with an Asura ex machina, stuff that may or may not be developed by Canach, because there must be a Sylvari stealing the spotlight :P> Mordy gets poisoned and dies. Cue Marjory and Kasmeer kiss, Rox and Braham hold hands, Taimi is happy, Commander is not)
Ok, enough joking. People really hope for a direct fight with the Elder Dragons, even if it should be using some airship/giant Charr flamethrower/etc. Heck, I’d be happy even if it would mean I have to 1111111 him to death – at least it wouldn’t be any Biconic stealing mah glory…
The summit is attacked (probably by Mordremoth’s vines/minions/himself).
Dragons feed on magic, Mordremoth attacked most fiercely only those places where magical artifacts were stored.
Trahearne is attending the summit.
Trahearne has Caladbolg which was used to friggin purify Orr – the amount of magic channeled through it must be like a giant FREE MUNCHIES neon sign in a dark cave for Mordy.
Mordremoth eats Pact Marshal and his sword.
Player’s rejoice.
Here’s how Mordremoth reacts to all the waypoint fuss

Mirkrise Waypoint in Brisban Wildlands is shattered, pieces of it lie on the ground and the WP is treated as permanently contested. I guess we are going to get hard times with travelling when the new patch arrives…
I’ll just leave this here if it wasn’t posted yet

I’ve got another idea.
We know that Scarlet used the Breachmaker to direct a surge of energy from the ley-line to Mordremoths sleeping place. I am wondering if redirecting the flow of magic in the ley-line did not cause it to become permanently connected to Mordremoth. This could potentially allow him to feed on a much more rapid rate than he did.
My guess is that Mordremoth has not awakended yet, he is in a sort of pre-awakening state, and needs more magic to do so. As a dragon connected with plants, he might be using the vines as a root system to suck on magic from every major source (much like Mouths of Zhaitan). Or this might be a sign that a major branch of the ley-line became somewhat corrupted by Mordremoth linked to it.
Actually I did this on my Mesmer with fair ease. Used GS/Staff build with 6/0/4/0/4 build. Switched fairly often during the fight to take advantage of the staff. The order does not seem particularly fixed cuz’ mine was Captain → First Mate → Gunner – > Stitches. Worked perfectly fine.
I am calling that Braham’ gonna get corrupted by Jormag. He has issues, he’s naive, he wants to become a legend – a perfect victim for Jormag
One thing bugs me. Why the filename contains ‘brisban’ in it? Is this a concept art for Brisban Wildlands post-Mordremoth awakening? Maybe we will se part of the Wildlands corrupted by Mordremoth, or even the whole zone affected, thus ogiving us free access to further parts of Maguuma…
So, we all know that there is a tengu mini named Tsuru Whitewing, and that there is absolutely no such NPC in the game. Now let’s speculate to relieve the boredom.
ArenaNet told us that we will be getting a Blade Shard merchant soon. However, who would be interested in such thing and for what purpose? My guess is that the mysterious Tsuru Whitewing will be a Tengu merchant interested in buying the shards for whatever purpose – remember, when the Breachmaker blew, it’s parts were scattered all over Lion’s Arch, some of them most certainly flew over the Shuttered Gate. If my theory is true this could mean that Tengu are slowly opening their eyes to the threats of Tyria – we mioght see the Dominon of Winds opening but not as a starting location for the playable Tengu (at least yet), but as some kind of a new hub…
I go for Braham – not now, but in the eventual Jormag LS some further in the future. He’s the perfect candidate: mommy issues, problems with possible interracial romance. I can see him becoming corrupted by Jormag due to this. Taimi may have hints of this as well, searching for a cure to her condition. We all saw her fascination with Scarlet – how can we be sure she won’t get fascinated with Inquest and their genius, regardless of theirmorally ambiguous methods?
Aurora Glade gathered and coordinated people to take down the Wurm in the near future, and Marionette is done regularly. We attempted Wurm last weekend, and the first try was at least… interesting. Taking into account the coordination which was done AG probably will take down the bugger soon. Dunno about other servers.
Her name bothers me. Taimi sounds like “Timey” which would indicate that she might be from the future (there was some speculation going on that)…
