Flamethrower is really good for knocking them away when they land. It’s a bit tricky at first but you can get the hang of it.

This is kittening ridiculous. Anytime you die in the middle at Foefire you can expect to have to restart your client – OH and expect to lose the kittening match. It happens without fail everytime you die in the middle of Foefire. I’m having to restart 2-3 times a game. Then, if you happen to be in the middle of foefire when the match starts, guess what? You’re going to be restarting! I won’t threaten to quit or any BS like that but this is kittening ANNOYING.

I was happy with it. They’ve got a lot on their plate and every patch has been smooth – They really take their time to make sure that things are right. First time I’ve seen an mmo dev actually stay true to, “When it’s ready.” I’ll gladly wait for it. I’ve got 400 hours in game and I’ve barely scratched the surface.

I don’t mind buying bank slots, character slots, cosmetic stuff, and I wouldn’t even mind paying for server transfers. However, reading the recent article here gave me “that feeling” in the pit of my stomach.

Long story short, you can play ‘free tournaments’, or you can use tokens or cash for ‘paid tournaments’. The ‘paid tournaments’ have better rewards, reward all players who play, and cost money. I haven’t seen prices for paid tickets yet, but I automatically can disagree with it on the aspect that this is requiring players (who wish to compete in more than their chest-reward couple of free tournaments) to pay for access to content, and I’m not really okay with it. It sounds, and probably is – DLC. In a very abstract way, it’s technically paying for an advantage (more rewards, more glory). It’t now ‘Pay-2-Win’, but it’s pretty close.

Additionally, they are also going to add “rentable” custom arena’s, which will most likely have some sort of “use real money” mechanic to it as well (why would they call it ‘rentable’ otherwise?). I don’t know, maybe pvp lobby space is limited, and they can only afford more of it to be let go for money (which sounds more like poor planning). I’m not liking the idea of it, and am considering putting off my personal venture into the depths of SPvP as a result. Realitically, there will be a great percentage of the PvP-demographic that will just assume stick to free tournaments than spend money on it. What’s stopping them from monetizing access to WvW?

TL;DR: New “paid tournaments” and “rentable custom arena’s” sound like DLC – which is not okay.

You get tickets from doing free tournaments. You aren’t forced to pay real money or gems for anything. As a casual player that has done mostly pug free tournies, I have more than 100 tickets already.

I loved the blog post. I’ve been looking forward to a progress report / more info on these since the game released. I can’t wait for the extra detailed one. I’m glad they’re releasing paid tournaments first – My team tends to only play at peak hours when pugs are rampant.

because this is not the general, pug only point-of-view

I don’t get it. The score next to your name doesn’t mean much in terms of a player’s contribution to the winning of the match.

LOL? You can’t be serious right now. Finishing people off, reviving, and rallying are such HUGE aspects of the meta right now. There’s no denying it. Eles currently have a handicap on this aspect of the game. Comparitively, this is like a basketball player only being allowed to play with 1 hand.

I didn’t ask for everyone to be exactly the same either durp. Nice assumption.

Edit – inb4 hurr durr the problem isn’t the problem, the person is the problem.

D/D is incredible burst and mobility.

Also very very very very fragile unless built highly specifically. I’ve yet to find a d/d build I’ve been satisfied with. Especially against thieves.

Pretty much have to rely on the mobility and CC to stay alive.

So players who are not that great and only finish 5-9 place in tournaments, who still want to play in their own brackets against people equally skilled, have to farm gold in PvE or pay rl money in order to play tournaments (because the amount of tickets you get through chests is abysmal).
That doesn’t really motivate teams to get better.
I really thought the gem shop would be “just cosmetic” (and not be affecting PvP at all for that matter) but if this is really going to get patched into the game I will stop playing it. Every aspect of it. That is no threat, no one is going to miss me – but I would be really disappointed because of Anets decision making.

Instead of making the cash shop a mandatory part of PvP try adding some cosmetics on the cash shop that actually look good.

If you aren’t beating pugs in order to earn those free tourny tickets, you aren’t good enough to face the paid teams. That’s the idea.

Instagibbing and its place in the game.

Dodging, immunities, condition clearing, timing, teamwork, and knowing the game keeps you from being instagibbed and stomped. People that are specced for instagibs are just as susceptible to the same. People without successful tournament experience (Ie: Winning substantially more than losing) have no place calling for nerfs of anything. The catch is that people who win and understand the competitive environment understand that this game is well balanced (albeit not perfect.)

Slowly the mists is dying since the blogpost still isn’t out yet , most people left for other games or moved towards pve and wvw. Sad situation so far.

Unfortunately I’m noticing the same thing. PvP is losing a lot of people which baffles me. This game sucks me in like crazy. tPvP is so addicting and fun… I can play for hours and barely notice the day going by.

So you think condition Necromancers a problem but you say you chose to not run with a healing skill that has more controlled healing and removes conditions, and you have teamates removing conditions and you have a another condition removal… i don’t see how the condition necro can be a problem.

Everything. I feel like I’m at home when I’m on an Engineer. The knockbacks, the blinds, the control, the mobility, the POWER, the complete confidence that I will put down anyone that comes my way, the fact that I can hold off 2-3 people long enough for my team to cap a node and then run across the entire map to support me before I go down.

A half-decent condition Necro is the only thing I fear on my Thief.

Seriously? Only thing a condition necro is good is against a tank spec guardian, condition necro in tpvp won’t get far with the constant condition cleansing, but the boon stripping/converting is what can kill bunker guardians.

Thiefs tend to not run with condi removal. If the necro can survive a decent bit and land some CC, his conditions will tear the thief up. A smart thief will just avoid that 1v1 altogether unless they’ve got Thieves Guild (IWIN) up.

Why wouldn’t a thief run with condition removal in PvP? That makes no sence.

Because I’m not in LoS or visible long enough for them to apply significant conditions to me. Plus, usually someone on my team has AoE condi removal, anyways. My only condi removal is hide in shadows.

edit: In a team setting, a necro that’s paying attention and watching to condi up and CC the thief will be the one that saves his teammate’s kitten from the 75% → Downed.

+1. This post is really well thought out and put together. I definitely agree with everything up there. A lot of people can’t get a reliable team together for tpvp or just don’t enjoy it. 8v8 in its current state tends to be a complete mess with the best way to earn points/glory being to do the exact opposite of what it takes to win or help the team.

I think evilapprentice has the right idea. I’m amazed that a lot of the same people that complain about burst also complain about the downed state. The downed state is a great way to keep teams from taking advantage of the power of glass.

Engineers are EXCELLENT at making balanced builds. You can get a bit of CC, a bit of condi removal, a bit of survivability, mobility, decent damage, and amazing utility. I believe condi-survival necros, mesmers, hamshout warriors, damage-centric guardians are also good examples of builds that end up having decent survivability with decent damage. They’re great for team fights if you’ve already got plenty of burst and bunker but want a little more stomping / ressing / support.

Legit tactic. You DO eventually die and they can’t perpetually hold you in the downed state. Also, a very simple counter is to ensure that you die ON POINT. Then they HAVE to kill you in order to cap.

You know, this “l2p” bully behaviour is getting old. Simply because people LOVE those specs and classes because they do not require of them what the yell always into other people’s faces: to “l2p”. Think about that.

It’s not bullying. If anything, you’re the bullies. You’re trying to ruin our game. I play every class except Ranger, Guardian, and Mesmer. They bore me. I don’t feel underpowered on any class. I play several specs on each class and I am capable of filling any role. Your argument of, “You’re just a nerd on a powertrip with an OP spec/class.” is unsubstantiated by the fact that every class and spec I play feels “overpowered.”

Running around with 14k hp’s as an elementalist with decent toughness 1700 etc. Why does a steal backstab combo take 70 percent of my hp’s. People blowing up in 2 seconds is bad design. You boys have had 6 weeks now to gauge what’s happening. I know you feel like you have to earn your paycheck s by adjusting some random pve bosses telegraphed attack but come on, You’re out of time, wake-up.

You’re a squishy elementalist and you’re complaining about being blown up by a class and build specifically designed for massive single hits? I’ve seen bunker ele’s kite thiefs around endlessly. Most classes don’t die in seconds and especially not from a single person unless they’re built on pure glass, have no cooldowns, and aren’t paying attention. Blowing up the people in 2 seconds that are designed to blow people up in 2 seconds is great design. It’s called balance – You aim for heavy damage, you lose survivability. Toughness without any HP is pretty worthless. Pick up more defensive utilities and either go full glass and learn how to survive or make a survival spec.

The eles I play with don’t die in seconds.

Until combo fields become more important, the elementalist traits get an overhaul, and the lackluster utility skills get cleaned up (ex:conjure weapons) I don’t see a good reason to play Ele over other classes. That’s not to say you can’t win any battles or support your team, I just don’t think Ele’s bring anything unique or important to PvP right now.

The day that everyone stops dying in 3 seconds and fights can actually last a little while, the importance of support classes will go up. Also, combo fields need to have stronger effects.

The amount of “Fail” here is incredible. I’m really glad ANet takes everything in this forum with a grain of salt. It’s filled with QQ from people who know nothing about the game but are trying to change it. Elementalists are amazing in tpvp and their combo fields are invaluable.

Yes, everyone takes the 30% longer fire combo fields trait and the conjure weapons because everything in the elementalists arsenal is so awesome. You’re right, there’s nothing wrong with elementalists we should all stop offering our suggestions and giving feedback, nothing good ever comes from that.

Further proving that you don’t know jack about pvp and need to kitten along with 90% of the people on this forum. The conjured bow is currently one of the best ways to down the enemy trebuchet in Battle of Khylo. The combo field extension is being used by staff eles and burst eles to provide heavy might stacks to the entire team on point. Balance isn’t defined by making everything amazing for everything. Just because YOU don’t know how to play or don’t understand a specific functionality doesn’t mean that the game is broken.

I’m looking for a server that has a really active Heart of the Mists. I’m trying to explore players, guilds, and groups to find a new core team to run with because mine is very inactive.

I’d like to find some decent, like-minded players to win the gold in both paid and free tournaments; mature people that have never in their life referred to someone as a “scrub” unless reciting TLC lyrics. I just want to play the game and I’d like to think I’m pretty good at it.

Engineer’s thrown elixirs and grenades do not register when used on point at the clocktower in Khylo’s. I don’t even bother going to the clocktower on my engineer during matches anymore because of this bug.

This build allows you to do great damage at range and even more up close. I’d recommend it for just about anything if you know how to kite (don’t play engineer if you can’t kite), don’t mind being squishy, and aren’t too concerned with taking condition damage.

Grenade skill #1 needs hard target

Stating “L2P” is hardly a substantive response that addresses that issue being discussed; that being said the OP only asked for the “1 Skill” to be an auto-attack, and this is a design mechanic flaw that has been recognized on these forums in the past in that your means of aiming disappears when you are holding the right mouse button to strafe and aim your camera (Which as the OP stated the majority of SPvP players use). So, the two mechanics are clashing with each other; it isn’t just the OP complaining.

To address the issue I don’t necessarily believe we need to turn it into an auto-atack; though here are some proposals I have:

-Turn 1 Skill into an auto-attack but reduce it to 1 grenade
-or speed up the travel time of the grenade animations
-or have a target marker that remains for the grenade kit showing us where we are aiming
-Make sure 1 Skill is locked into an auto-attack (This is good for all kits, but the grenade kit doesn’t even work when you manually lock it)
-or have an pre-set target in front of the caster when you aren’t using a cursor to aim; which would allow you to know a set distance your grenades will fly in front of you.

These are just some suggestions I brainstormed, what do you guys think?

These are all terrible. Grenades are purposefully given extra punch BECAUSE you manually target them. There’s no constructive way to approach an issue that doesn’t exist. OP just needs to L2P and there’s really no other answer.

You can do /deaths and check the status of your Slayer achievement if you haven’t earned 2,000 kills yet to basically see your K/D ratio. I used to stroke myself with that (though it doesn’t mean a whole lot.) Now I just look at tourny wins/losses.
