Because we can’t have nice things.
In either tPvP or WvW 1v1 without a control point. I always felt Elementalists are obscenely strong due to their boons, healing, mobility, cc, and small trade-offs for damage. They also wipe whatever conditions you place on them and it seems you can only fight them to a stalement using a bunker build. Do elementalists actually fear any class besides a backstab thief that kills them while they’re reading the forums?
Since you can strip their nearly persistent boons and weaken them while having a large health pool to survive. I’m speaking from both a tPvP and 1v1 WvW (no control point) perspective.
I love my engineer, but the class isn’t getting love. I wanted something that was effective against fotm overpowered 1v1 classes that wasn’t overplayed. Necro seems good on paper, but I’m not sure it’s as effective as I believe it to be.
I died once last night.
As a king of versatility, you should be ashamed of yourself.
Solo roamers don’t normally try to flip camps or kill dolyaks. They’re usually there waiting at busy intersections to gank players from stealth or obstructions. 95% of the players I see trying to kill yaks are uplevels trying to get copper or kamikazi bombers who want to win the supply race.
I know roaming groups will flip a camp just to set a trap for someone to come by to gank them though.

The vast majority of players are there for rewards. They’re mostly casuals who want to level up alts, do world completion, or obtain karma.
A smaller percentage enjoy running with guilds to take an objective and feel safer within a group. They do not enjoy dying.
An extremely small percentage goes into WvW to pick 1v1 fights because, as you’ve guessed, 1v1s are extremely hard to occur because one side will always have random players show up to ruin them. You can look for more than hour before you find a player willing to 1v1 you, and then it’s usually because that player is running a build designed to overpower you using cookie-cutter burst builds that are unbalanced at the time.
Please remove gates as well.
Anyone else notice there are no roaming warriors, engineers, necromancers, guardians, or rangers? Just wanted to point that out. Also I think I’ve seen about 20 videos of elementalists winning 1 v 2-5. Seems roaming is all about joining the D/D or bunker elementalist club.
Get own’d new player! You got served!
Relevant video from Kill Shot troll.
I actually wasn’t aware he recently transferred from Sorrow’s Furnace which explains part of why he’s been making an effort to troll my guild. I do find it funny how he picks target guilds to get reactions from and just keeps at it in hopes of an angry response.
Separating his posts from the other members of Maguuma have made it a lot more relevant and respectable though. As I’ve mentioned before in our own forums, Maguuma has a lot of formidable guilds dedicated to supporting their server and each other on their mumble. I never known any of them to talk trash excessively, nor does it really matter; you just start to not take a server seriously and assume they’re full of clowns throwing random challenges to duel.
^ Was setting up that response for last 4 hours.
Edit: Deleted the funny remark I was referring to. Shame.

You’re a GOON, you deserve NOTHING.
But nah, honestly, I only remember GOON making up most of Maguuma’s WvW population – I’ve never hated them myself and just treated it as part of Maguuma’s identity. I was wondering what happened. Did most of you guys go back to Eve or move on to another game?
I don’t want respect, just competition. Roaming pvp is my favorite type of pvp by far; it’s why I played DAoC for so ridiculously long. I’m going to keep hoping that eventually people will start getting bored of pveing guards and doors and start looking for something more competitive. It happened in DAoC, and, given time, it may happen here as well.
The issue is that roaming meta is extremely broken right now since group PvP is balanced around control point holding. My engineer can bunker with bombs and bandages, but there is no build that can fulfill optimized team fights in open field.
The roaming meta is based around classes that can molest fights by resetting – Elementalists, Thieves, and Mesmers. In a true arena environment, this wouldn’t be allowed or you’d be punished for it by surrendering an objective. Have you ever dueled in WoW and had a Mage polymorph you for 20 minutes until he could win? There wasn’t any feel of competition.
I would also love roaming to be incorporated into new WvW maps to have value or have it be highly competitive, but at the moment, the class imbalances make it extremely undesirable unless you have “the” best set up. And unfortunately, unlike sPvP, you can’t switch classes at your leisure.

I actually don’t believe Halo or CoD take the level of skill of shooters such as Counterstrike either, but they are featured in MLG, have a huge following, and have players that dedicate 80+ hours a week at it. It’s where the competition is at.
sPvP is dying. I bought this game to sPvP and had no interest in the MMO version until I started getting bored and attendance dropped substantially. During mornings, there are 2-3 servers out of the 325 that have people in them. During the evenings, it doesn’t even fill 40. Tournaments have a wait time of 5-15 minutes.
I agree though; any paid tournament team that can make it to silver or gold can destroy anyone I’ve ever played against in WvW.
I’m amazed that players never get tired of blaming losses on numbers when numbers directly correlate to a server’s rank anyway. I can say with an accurate assumption that Yak’s Bend is actually the least populated of Tier 3 just because they’re here fighting us right now.
The same trolls are whining and moaning about YB outmanning us in this matchup, but they actually only field a few more dozen guys in each borderland during the evening. If they believe their server truly deserved to win this matchup, they’d have put in the extra hours or had coordinated groups to hold enemy territory for extended periods of time which never happened.
Make it so thieves and mesmers are never culled. ANet can I get hooked up with a job offer?
That’s pretty much why you play paid tournaments. The level of skill is a huge cry from that in WvW where the majority of people play for rewards and are rarely in organized groups.
Honestly, the game is extremely unbalanced for real fights right now which is why sPvP dying and no one streams this game anymore. If I had my choice, I’d put together a team of 4 elementalists and 1 support mesmer running perpetual might, fury, swiftness, protection, and never lose a single fight.
The only fun in WvW is that siege and walls help equalize groups of players regardless of class and puts a focus on supply wars. If you were honestly in this game for real competition, it’s not there yet, and you should be playing LoL, DotA, SC2, Halo, or CoD for legitimate respect.
Trolling people off cliffs with knockback abilities.
All other times: Extreme sadness.
Thread cliffnotes
Maguuma: Yak does nothing but zerg.
Yak: No we don’t.
Maguuma: Please for the love of god respect our elementalists and thieves.
Ehmry: I hate Maguuma.
I heard a school of Yak Quaggans showed up to the water gate of their garrison on Friday night. I thought people would have countered with a Quaggan dance off, but I was horrified when I heard they were mercilessly slaughtered. I facepalmed pretty hard when someone mentioned, “WATER GATE, CLEAR!” in team chat.
I extend my condolences to your Quaggan platoon and will construct a memorial service to honor their exploits. Thanks again for being so awesome.

Actually, the Super Elixir for Elixir Gun was nerfed to oblivion, so that kit is worthless now. HGH 2 might stacks is still incredibly weak, and it is the only positive elixir change I’m aware of.
Right now, a great player can make Engineer viable, but if that same player played a D/D Elementalist, Shatter Mesmer, or Backstab Thief, they’d be gods in WvW.
Further, grenades don’t do nearly enough damage to siege as Elementalists nor do they have the spread to hit those placed in the back of walls.
Competent players win most of the skirmishes they run into. The truly best don’t have the need to validate their skill to others.
Good fight at Etheron Hills in Ehmry Bay Borderlands just now. I hope you Maguuma guys take that tenacity with you to Yak’s Bend later on during week; we might even join you to contend that #1 spot.
If they dont have an engineer there now spam knockdowns or some other gimmicky kitten they are not capable of beating someone.
A dime-a-dozen glass cannon culling thief whining about balance after dying in a single knockdown…
Nice Hope alliance by the way.
It made me laugh so hard when EB fliped back their keep in the east from CD when CD attacked us in our keep in the west but failed. Great job on EB’s part for capitalizing.
Also mad props to Shadowmoon players, you guys sure kept things alive and fun when it was around 4am. I thought you guys did a great job wiping us when we had 15vs10 against you, it was one of the very few times our groups wiped. You guys coordinate extremely well, props to your commanders.
Appreciate the comment; what guild were you in?
I was just dumbstruck when Maguuma had outmanned buff around 1 AM when we saw a ball of your players. Then 5 minutes later, we had outmanned buff when I saw at least 30 of our own dots on my map. It was just ridiculous how Crystal Desert fielded 3 different guilds with 40 players+ each over the entire night.
We held out until 5 AM waiting for reinforcements since Friday nights are normally popular for us. It’s just help never came, so we weren’t able to retake our borderland with just our guild group of 10. Our poor turn out must be for the same reason Maguuma was mentioning last week; just bored and tired of being unable to win in the same match up.
(edited by Jamaz.9837)
Came here to post that question too. Is there also a reason EBay never cleans up their on BL before coming on Maguuma’s? Like, I don’t really care that you do, it’s just a head scratcher.
We did. We cleaned you, Maguuma, out of our borderlands. The attachment is the map color 1 hour prior to the poster’s picture below.
I mean christ guys, is it “get Maguuma week” or what?
https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/26054/gw445.jpg
We had just taken Dreadfall Bay and peeled all of Crystal Desert from Maguuma Borderlands which allowed you to take back your entire home uncontested. We were hoping you’d take the hint and come to Crystal Desert Borderlands for revenge, but instead an [iLL] raid with 2 commanders and 50 players show up in Ehmry Bay Borderlands instead. Some random spy decided to build 40 siege weapons in Ascension Bay at the supply depots to lock out our siege for Maguuma’s raid as well.
So yes, we had to come back to our borderlands and wipe [iLL], and the vast majority of players were pissed that you guys cost us our push into Crystal Desert for both our servers to regain a foothold. Not like there’s an alliance or we expect your cooperation, but please forgo playing the victim card.
Panning your camera.
Actually, the jumping puzzle is pretty useless since it only rewards 2 plans and a dozen or so badges for 10-60 minutes of work depending on activity. You can farm the gold for 2 alpha siege golems easily within 30 minutes, and the vast majority of the time you’ll only get a Flame Ram and Arrow Cart blueprint from the chest making it even more trivial.
Back when camping the jump puzzle was in style, we would see the same people attempt the puzzle over and over – and over and over – taking upwards to 2-3 hours trying to make it through for “free” siege. It stupefies me how much people will go through when they think something is free – just like how Chick-fil-A offers a free sandwich and people will wait 1 hour in line for it when they could have just worked to buy 5-20 more.
Here’s to a good fight between the three servers; hopefully there will be a challenge for all parties involved. As part of Ehmry Bay, I’d like to ask our posters to take the higher ground and show these servers that we deserve to be here – avoid inflammatory posts and keep it mature. This is Ehmry’s first foray into Tier 4, and we don’t plan to disappoint.
Ehmry Bay: Who names their kid Ehmry Bay?
Honestly, the siege placed in the spawn point can be counter-sieged by another trebuchet in the tower. It’s a bit excessive to make callouts when we’re already spawn camping them. Just be prepared for it to happen next time and always have someone manning a counter-treb. @Dragonband, we’re preparing for your full strength; you’ll not find it easy in a few hours.
We lost our last match up against Maguuma even though we obtained a dominating lead on Friday night full borderland vs full borderland. Ehmry will not allow our fortifications to go down so lightly this week during the morning. The real fight begins in several hours.
We don’t have to be best friends forever with the enemy, but we need to keep it classy. Keep this thread free of flames and trolls and don’t embarrass your server. Ehmry Bay, let’s show our enemies that we deserve to win and that we still deserve respect.
Then you fully fortified and your small population of morning crew defended against our non-existent morning crew. I don’t intend to belittle Maguuma’s efforts in this week’s match-up since they’ve worked hard for the win, but a large result of the score is due to Ehmry’s weakness outside the evening which is nobody’s fault. We’re at this rank because we make a concerted effort to retake everything we lose during the morning and make an aggressive offense while everyone is online. Maguuma pretty much counters us (as probably every Tier 1-4 server) because they always have a few defenders available to call for help whereas the other servers we’ve been fighting have had to dedicate everyone to only 1-2 borderlands.
Good luck in your next match up, Maguuma. A lot of our guys have put in nearly 60 hours of WvW this week to give our server a fighting chance. Our server hasn’t quit, but many of us have families, school, and work and Ehmry was primarily started as a PvX server. I’m sure the same goes for your server, but our weekday attendance always drops off significantly and Friday night is when we are at our best.
I see us fighting Maguuma fairly often now since the amount of empty servers are finally moving down the list. It should be more interesting with a third server such as Darkhaven or Crystal Desert – I’m not sure how Maguuma has dealt with Darkhaven’s oceanic strength before.
Rabh, we may end up fighting again sooner than you think unless Maguuma can pull out a substantial lead against Crystal Desert and Darkhaven. Ehmry Bay is fighitng Henge of Denravi which is in the same free fall situation as Eredon Terrace, meaning our rating will only go up even if we lose to Dragonbrand.

I’m here to judge because someone who just got on a new server was ecstatic to be winning and conceited enough to be posting a completely Maguuma pie chart that lasted all of 15 minutes. I could care less why your guild transferred.
Score update from two hours ago. So close, Maguuma.
Sanae Kurita, Mag
I was withholding judgment about FINE jumping ship to Maguuma, and had a lot of respect for Meow for staying on their server, but after this post and the one gloating above, I’ll have to call you out…
Meow is not leaving. I’m representing Meow, now, since FINE has left (but was in both guilds for a while). I’m also trying to work out some ways to get more people to WvW, since I’m honestly getting tired of seeing ghost towns in team chat in the borderland maps.
Miu really appreciate Meows loyalty to NSP, that goes to OS and War as well, you guys rock and are the main reason we do well
Enjoy getting carried by Maguuma’s loyal, core guilds that did all the work for you.

You read in to it too much, Ralathar.
Pretty sure Rhyis just wanted to point out a strength of his server so it wouldn’t seem like he was fawning over the enemy. Let’s keep this thread migraine free until the next reset when we can get some fresh blood into WvW.
Now that I think about it, I feel like I’ve had more spirit weapons summoned on me this week than my entire experience in WvW.
Actually, that might be Killingfrenzy from [PURG] since it seemed like he was aiming for that outfit; he’s pretty good too. The one I’m talking about is a female thief with some awkward 1950’s hairstyle. We normally group up for an attack, and we usually hear “I’m already downing them. I’m downed.” while we’re still 10 seconds out.
Shadowmoon has a grand tally of 5 active thieves in WvW. They don’t bother ganking solo players since there’s no objective to it besides trolling, but I think their Dolyak kill count on Friday was something along the lines of 17. If you see a thief SM commander, you’ll usually see him dead along with 2-3 of the other server since he has blatant disregard for self-preservation and repair bills. Make sure you teabag him furiously; he enjoys that kind of thing.
(edited by Jamaz.9837)
EBay has a lot of thieves and warriors that seem to pretty much only walk around looking for the gank. More then any other server I’ve ever fought. Which is strong on the small scale, but doesn’t offer much on the large scale.
This is largely subjective since 90% of all thieves and warriors spec glass cannon. Just about every thief and warrior from Maguuma I’ve fought builds this way looking for ganks, and I’m confident I can say the same about every single server. The vast majority of players don’t have guilds and groups to run with, so they rely on 1v1 builds for self-satisfaction. You’ll have people that rely on culling as well such as mesmers and thieves and build just to abuse it on every server – it’s unavoidable since it gives them such a clear advantage. Once they lower burst damage and remove the control cap invisibility mechanic, these specs will evaporate.
When a thief uses “Dagger Storm”, I notice that “Temporal Curtain->Into the Void” actually completely ignores thief stability and knocks them over. Likewise, I’ve given myself stability and have been tossed around like it didn’t matter. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this a well known bug that is currently being addressed? This seems to just blatantly counter a large majority of utility skills that keep classes alive, not to mention the already overly effectively Portal Entre and Moa Morph.
Original thread closed. Keep it clean and represent our server in a better light, Ehmry Bay. Our server is known for its mature community, and the posts of the same few whiners are an embarrassment. Previous history, night capping, or mechanics are irrelevant to complain about since there is no point discussing them.
I’ll get the discussion started to set the tone. Ehmry is behind a significant amount of points and are getting suffocated by upgraded fortifications and constant defenders. Our organized guilds aren’t giving up though, and will keep making headway.
We can beat any server below us, and Maguuma is the stepping stone into the next tier. Learn from our losses and keep improving what’s within our control.
Wanted to put out there that we have a lot trolls that just spam the forums – the same 5 or 6 people. Vast majority of our guys are casuals, don’t even check forums, and don’t whine that much. Not sure what you guys take from it, but my friends were really surprised you guys complimented us; we were the ones scrimmaging turtle counters and sending thief strikes teams during the opener in Ehmry Bay Borderlands.
I’m actually surprised Maguuma is within this division given the amount of discipline they have – Ehmry still hasn’t unified our server into the same VC which makes our pug strength weaker. Whereas even with Maguuma having 8 random guild tags, they will still portal bomb together and not break under pressure – a lot of Ehmry will run unless the fight looks in their favor. It comes from the fact that most of our guys aren’t as hardcore or had enough practice as yours – so although I’m not a defeatist, it seems like we still have a ways to go as a server to contend with yours.
Yeah, I’m pretty surprised Maguuma is actually being pretty chill about the whole the match. But a lot of our server’s hostility comes from being in Tier 7 for a while after being abandoned by half our WvW population and trudging through the down times. We also always lose during the morning to any server, so while the modest players are desensitized, most of them are still bitter. We’ve also gotten a lot of new transfers recently riding the bandwagon, not sure they represent us.
Shadowmoon and the main guilds at least appreciates the match up. This 1v1 has been incredibly challenging to us. The thing that stymies us the most is that Maguuma is willing to dedicate defenders at every spot and show discipline in responding to defense which is what was missing in Tier 6-7. We see a lot iLL, GOON, and SFD responding in force without trickling in, and apparently our old friends, FINE too.
