I start using AT, when it worked was lovely to return the condition that u had to your opponent but when it didn’t work it was almost a guarantee defeat.
Since I dropped it and started to use Mantra of Resolve my quality of life just went from 8 to 80.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
Well I guess the build that you are using is always important.
But I would say :
p/d thief – try to use your illusions as shield and dodge/BF the unload and don’t be afraid to shatter so that he can’t clock and dagger. Then pressure him.
Engys – you will need to keep the distance use your range weapon and sometimes back off a bit and let the phantasms pressure him. Keep an eye for Confusion and if you can’t dodge the pull use decoy or if you are hit, look at your condition bar, probably you will have lots of confusion from the interrupt and the prybar hit.
If Engy use his elite, don’t go into the middle of it, unless you have BF ready and can dodge or stealth out of it after you use the BF, Keep hitting the engy from distance.
Necros – Have some stunbreak ready in case you are feared, decoy is really good in this case because some keep spending their good spells on the illusion. If you were severely hit back off a bit and let the clones keep the pressure, try not to put them all together because of necros AOE unless they are near the necro and you want them to die to pressure the necro with conditions.

Didn’t play full condition on the mesmer, but when you go full conditions is usually to capitalize 2 things.
1- You gain survivability because you usually get higher toughness
2 -The weapons/skills that you want to use work better on that playstyle.
I like Hybrid builds because you capitalize that we have a lot of hybrid skills. Also you have not a specific counter spec.
If people just go full condition denial you can kill them with dmg, if they are full bunker (talking about Toughness in this case) your conditions will be a good source of dmg since they ignore their toughness.
But sometimes I miss seeing the Big numbers…. and it’s always fun to do a big burst.

Ty for the explanations.
I agree that Critical chance is better to trigger vigor, sharper images too but if you have fury on phantasms probably it doesn’t matter on this case.
Looking at the common PU build the stats would be:
With Carrion :
power 2113
Thoughness 1468
Vitality 1056
Precision 1738
Armor 2388
HP 16482
Critical Chance 43%
Ferocity 593
Condition Damage 688
Critical Damage 190%
Non Carrion :
power 2008
Thoughness 1484
Vitality 952
Precision 1876
Armor 2404
HP 15442
Critical Chance 50%
Ferocity 728
Condition Damage 606
Critical Damage 199%
Carrion Plus :
+ 105 power
+ 1040 HP
+ 82 condition damage
Carrion Minus :
- 16 Armor
- 7%
- 9% Critical Damage
Do you think that 7% critical chance , 9% critical damage and 16 toughness is better then 105 power 1040 HP and 82 condition damage? (For all fights but specially for outnumbered fights)
I would say that with Non Carrion I’m more Bursty and with Carrion more sustain/durable.

I didn’t play a full condition mesmer, but for a PU condition build you could use Superior Rune of the Guardian.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Guardian
The runes doesn’t seem to have a CD on the fire, so each time you block you put fire.
This will give you a more consistent way to apply fire.

I’d use Rampager before Carrion, in a hybrid spec. The reasons being:
- Mesmer cond builds gain more benefit from Precision, due to extra Sharper Images procs.
- If you’re trying to stack extra Power (for Warlock damage, as an example), it’s then better to at least gain Precision while you do so.
- With that in mind, at least Rampager’ll grant the main “desired” stats, while handing over a bit of extra Pow.
Of course, my own “Hybrid” specs are generally:
- Rabid Armor, Celestial trinkets
- Knight/Soldier Armor, Rabid trinkets
Rampager weapons, with either option.
I don’t disagree but I just think is a question of mixing and Carrion can be useful.
On my Hybrid build :
I have Berserker + Cavalier trinkets
gear is Carrion and Rampage and Weapons are Rampage.
If you reach for example 50% critical chance you don’t need rampage anymore so I think Carrion will be more beneficial.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
However, there are some other considerations. Carrion gear is a poor choice for mesmer. No matter what build, no matter how you run it, carrion gear is bad. The stats just don’t work with how the mesmer traits and abilities function.
Could you plz elaborate more?
I think in a Hybrid Build Carrion can be an option, is just a matter of mixing gear till u have the stats that u want.

I would like something like:
Mimic :
While Mimic is active you store all incoming damage as power.
Echo Release accumulated power which will do a 360 AOE Push.
Cast time:
– Mimic 3 sec
– Echo 1 sec
Cooldown: 30 sec
Knockback : 300
Range:
50 – If the power accumulated between 0 and 1k
100 – If power [1 k – 2k ]
150 – If power [2 k – 3k ]
200 – If power > – 3k

This would be a good solution to get rid some of the mats.

Mesmers are really good at roaming, you just need practice.
I saw that you have a big rank and a lot of AP both much more then me.
But only one of those matter in WWW, and that one only matters if you got him roaming not with the zergs.
Try to go on Youtube and search for Mesmer videos, there are some people doing tutorials about their strategy during the fights.
GL

Here’s how I’m thinking…
The 20/20/30 condi PU build actually doesn’t even go into the condition damage line (illusions), Condi Mesmer going 0/20/30/0/20 are gaining 200 condition damage, potentially longer confusion procs, AND higher confusion uptime. The only defensive loss here is an untraited torch, which honestly isn’t that bad of a trade-off compared to the gain.
As far as PvP goes, look at all the people already crying about PU Mesmer. Most of the time the “solution,” crappy as it may be, is to just ignore them. With this buff that’s now impossible. A condi Mesmer now has access to constant Bleed/Burning/Torment/Confusion/Vulnerability and that’s not even considering Chaos Storm/Armor and weakness/cripple from clone deaths, also don’t forget that sigils are getting tweaked, so likely Hydromancy just for the chill as an extra cover-condition. And the thing is, none of this hits in a “burst” like it does with Necros and Engineers, its just a steady nonstop stream of death. You’re going to have to be a good player to beat a condition Mesmer, which means all the people who were crying about PU before -which is why it’s getting nerfed- are gonna turn into wet girls now.
(… No offense to any moistened women out there.)
I agree with you for the most part, but when you account the Torch untraited in a blackwater build you have to remember that you are losing your condition removal.
So when going to the this build you will have to ditch 1 utility to have a condition removal. This will make you lose 1 Veil or Blink or you will be very vulnerable to conditions, you have to avoid them all or you are toasted.
So condition mesmer going to this build will not have so much access to stealth or they will have harder time when fighting conditions enemies.
Besides this, the new “Blackwater” builds will still have the same problem as the old Blackwater build, if the enemy decide to not fight you there is nothing you can do to stop him.
I’m not saying that the build could not be good, I’m using a similar build for a long time just saying that you need to have that in mind when you do the trade off.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
I think doing builds that are good in 1 vs 1 is not difficult, the hard part is making a build that allow you to escape when you are focus fire.
Stealth is great in this case because it allow you to stop taking dmg and give you a chance of reposition yourself making hard to focus fire on you when you get out of stealth.
If you don’t have stealth you need to have immunities and probably be a bit bunker since your immunites will not last forever.
Another option is to have high HP recovery like Eles had with the bunker build or some Condition Engy/Rangers have, this pared with good mobility to allow you HP regeneration to take effect.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
But it’s all skills not just Thief skills.
that’s how it is with any other mortal prof already. just thief weapons turns out to be an exception. that exception needs to be leveled imo.
If you interrupt a skill it goes to a 5 sec CD not to it’s full CD.
This would increase the skill play and you would feel reward for interrupting the right skill.
Ofc Interrupts should not be spammable, but this would lead us again to a balance discussion .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
But it’s all skills not just Thief skills.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
Consider it “over the top imba?”
Would open a really big discussion about GW2 balance on all classes not just Thief, and there are already many post complaining about balance.
I give you that It’s not easy to do, it depends on many factors, your distance to Thief, the type of interrupt you have, lag, etc.
I never played lockdown mesmer so I’m not a pro interrupter like Chaos, but I would say that interrupting [insert class here ] is not an easy task. Because not all skills have a clear animation.
And in my opinion interrupts should put the skill interrupted in Full CD.
About the Thief BP/HS combo the thing that I would change is that if you were Hit by the HS during the combo the dmg should put you out of stealth.
This way if you interrupted him inside the BP you could still get close to him to avoid the stealth ofc sacrificing a bit of you HP.
But from what I understood from the Combo Mechanic, the stealth just activated at the end of the skill, so the dmg is acknowledged first.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
In his case I think he is using the Endless Toymaker’s Tonic any tonic that do the transformation should do the trick.
The trick is explained in the Video comments:
“he is using Centaur =runes and the “exit” button is the same as the heal skill so it procs the 6/6 rune ability that grants swiftness to himself and allies. ?"
“I use runes of centaur since I’m short on money for traveler runes. Any #6 triggers with ‘’on heal’’ effects, so it does too with the tonic. It also triggers ‘’weapon swap’’ effects. ?”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
Actually, I was wrong. It doesn’t put the skill on cooldown, just still applies the initiative cost. My bad.
wow….
not fair
thx for investigating chaos
Thief skills don’t have cooldown, that’s why chill doesn’t increase Thief CD skills and the interrupts don’t put thief skill on a CD.
Thief CD are based around having or not initiative.
So if a Thief only has initiative for 1 BP/HS combo, if you interrupt it, is like he as CD on all skills till he regen more initiative.
About the interrupt if you let the thief do the HS but interrupt before the HS ends,(while he is in the air), Thief will be out of the BP and he will not be in stealth.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
The problem here imo is that you can build yourself for movement all you want but you’ll still terrible compared to most of the classes, not to mention that traveller runes costs 10g each.
There is a trick that you can do with Tonic + Centaur runes to get swiftness.
You can see it in use here :
According to his description should be cheaper then Travel runes.

Mesmer mobility is not on level with Nike Warrior, FGS eles, etc… but in your case you have 0 chasing ability.(No swiftness,Focus,Greatsword,Travel Runes,etc.. )
You invested all in a build to stay and fight.
When fighting this should give you an edge over builds that are more flexible,(Builds that are good at fighting but also good at disengaging ), but other builds edge is that they have a better chance of not to die or reset the fight. You wouldn’t outrun most classes even if you were spec’d for running. Best chance mesmer has is invis for jukes and hope to god you aren’t poisoned for 30 seconds so you can break combat and waypoint. Same goes for catching people.
I’m pretty sure that I said that.
“Mesmer mobility is not on level with Nike Warrior, FGS eles, etc…”
But if you have 0 Speed/ gap closer even a person with just Travel runes can run from you. And when you build this way you have to be prepared to accept this.
If you want some chase ability:
Greatsword give you 1200 range this allow you to keep hitting your target when u are chasing also give u a Phantasms that will cripple him, against some builds this will give you chance to get close to opponent even finish him if he disengage to late.
Traiting blink for 1200 range and lower CD can also help you chasing people, specially if the illusionary leap dont bug.
But you don’t just need ability to chase you also need ability to kill if you get to your opponent. Staff projectiles are slow so there is a huge chance that that you opponent can keep running forever.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
It’s annoying but you also have to think that is part of their build.
When you do a build you have to think about the trade offs that you are making.
For example, you can trade you staff for a greatsword, you will have less defensive skills but you have a bit more chasing ability, you may not be able to catch everybody but you will catch some people that now you don’t have a chance chasing.

I think a nice tweak, would be to remove the need for target.
You use it and it removes the conditions, if your target don’t dodge/Inv/etc.. you can also pass your conditions to him and remove his boons.
This would make the skill more reliable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
That’s simply not true. Target dropping becomes a progressively larger issue the more people depend on that target. If I target call a PU mesmer who is using lots of stealth, I can’t expect to hold that target for very long before he stealths. This is the same as a thief, no problem.
The real problem starts when the mesmer comes out of stealth, because there are 4 identical target and you have to find the right one. I’m not saying it’s hard but it can take a few seconds if you are pressured or you are in the middle of something else.
You don’t always notice them come out of stealth because you don’t know where it will happen and the clones don’t make it easier. Not because they’re doing damage but because you can’t tell without targeting if this is the mesmer or not (looking at food, karma buffs etc.) You can watch for movement patterns etc. but again, this all takes time and nobody has that time to waste in the middle of a fight. This is frustrating because there is no obvious counter to this. It all depends on whether the mesmer is stupid/pressured enough to obviously reveal himself, like dodge rolling, jumping, strafing or other things clones can’t do.
I’m not saying 2-3 people who are dedicated can’t take down a PU mesmer, obviously not. But the whole fight becomes incredibly drawn-out and frustrating, and it usually feels like you win because the mesmer messed up and not because you somehow outsmarted or countered him.
From your description the problem lies on stealth and not on PU.
The idea behind clones is for you to waste 1 or more seconds of your time searching for the real mesmer.
That’s the main reason why clones are similar to the mesmer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
What “Me Games Ma.8426” said.
Plus the advantage that iDuelist dmg is channeled.
So if your target go stealth the damage has a big chance of keep connecting.
Also you can track were your target is moving.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
PU is not the problem. PU Is a GM trait that give you boons and 1 second extra stealth.
Yeah it increases you survivability, but having traits that increase your survivability is not a problem. Many classes have traits to increase their survivability.
The problem is that you can go in stealth and your illusions are still doing dmg, ether power pressure or condition pressure.
So problem is doing dmg while you are in stealth surviving and 99% of time not being hit.
But let’s be honest if you are fighting outnumbered should be easy to your enemies to destroy your phantasm and your clones while you are not there, negating the pressure.
If it’s 1vs1 could be bit harder if you lack aoe, but you have the time at least to destroy a phantasm. 99% of PU builds don’t put extra health on phantasms so they die easy.
You can say but if they destroy the clones they will probably get conditions, well the game has 2 weapon set for some reason. If you want to go all bursty in melee and don’t carry a ranged weapon you shouldn’t complain. It’s like complaining that i’m stunned or I dyeing to conditions when I don’t carry anything to counter those things.
The counter to phantasm builds was to kill the phantasm as son as you could so that you could focus on the mesmer. With PU is more or less the same but in some case you need a ranged weapon so that you don’t get full of conditions.
The meta change and going all bursty without any survival tool being stun breaker or condition removal will only take you so far. You will find people that will counter your build and you will not have the proper tools to fight them.
When people complain about survivability that mesmer has, you have to keep in mind that most classes also have survivability tools, some have regen build other boons builds other invulnerability, disengage abilities etc…
I don’t think PU is making the mesmers OP.
Is it making some builds better then others??’ Yes it is. But there was always builds better then others.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
(edited by Jambas.6204)
I have to agree with Osicat about this. As a roamer there is no sense in going for a spec that is only good in 1vs1 while most of the times i’m outnumbered.
For me PU is great not for the 1 more sec in stealth but for the boons it gives.
I think GW2 is not be about tanking the dmg. You see lot’s of people complaining that they have more then 3k armor and they are getting melted by some class, usually thiefs.
All 3 boons contribute to increase you survivability, or by avoiding an important hit or by reducing the dmg you would take or even by helping you recover from a hit you should had avoid.
When I try to make a build, I try to search for a thing that helps me in this department without have to go all bunker.
I think there are only 3 ways to do this:
1 – You get boons,
2 – You focus on avoid dmg
3 – You kill faster then you are killed (usually this one is only good 1 vs 1).
I think is hard to get a good boon survivability build, without PU.
We can gain this kind of boons with Bountiful Interruption,Signet of inspiration but they are random. Some Runes also give boons but I’m stuck with Travelers.
You can make a combo with phantasm healing and Ilusionary membrane but it’s on a 15 sec cd and you have to be near a phantasm all the time.
What I would really love is that Anet would give us access to boons without them be so random for example you interrupt you gain 1 of this 3 boons…So you make an action and you gain something that you expect.
You do another action and you know that you will get fury for example.
For builds that don’t want to invest in critical chance.
I don’t like to invest in a build that can give me an amazing buff if the gods are with me and I win or give me a boon that I don’t need and I lose.
I you are in a small group I think it’s easier to find builds that would allow you to get away from PU.
You use an Interruption builds and your team members do the DPS.
You do the DPS and gain boons from the party members, etc..

Save your dodges for when you get out of stealth.
Phantasms will attack when you get out of stealth, so you already know when to dodge. (This happens if there is nothing in the area that they can tag while u are in stealth)
Then it becomes a rhythm thing. If you feel the pressure stay more time in stealth.
Another way is like it was already said, destroy the phantasm. If it’s a PU build probably they will not have reduce CD on the phantasm summoning, this will give you around 20 sec of play without pressure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
(edited by Jambas.6204)
I also think that having a phantasm disabling your opponent with a daze or a knockback would make the weapon op if they didn’t kill the phantasm right away .
It seems to me that this should be our condition phantasm so I will chose to put more conditions on the phantasm hit instead of increasing it’s power.
I would change retaliation boon for a blind on hit. This would increase the phantasms utility as a defensive phantasm.
If this is to strong maybe instead of blind the phantasm would apply 3 sec of Weakness when hitting.
Any of this conditions synergy well with the confusion that the phantasm puts.
Since you will have to activate more skills to do the same damage that you would normally do. This will indirectly increase the confusion damage

Like it was already said:
Make that you can only rally if you are one the 2 top dps on the guy that was stomped. If the enemy is killed by dps you will not rally.
If you really want to keep the healing on downstate from you server members on the game, at least make it really slow if they are in combat, so that they really have to commit to it.
Not like now, were 2 guys can almost instant get 1 guy up from downstate.

I don’t play shatter for a while, but the trick against bursty thiefs is payback.
If the thief is doing all that dmg, he is also glassy. So you just return the favor.
On my shatter I used mirror images instead of arcane thievery and tried the 4 ofhands all worked with staff as second weapon. Staff is good because Increases your survivability and produce a lot of clones. But since you don’t want to change your build I would advice your the following.
Thief come at you with basilik you pope decoy (stun breaker), and move from there if you decide not to use mirror images then you summon the off hand sword phantam, do a dodge to produce 1 more clone,if the decoy clone is dead, and do an illusionary leap to the thief followed by a bluerred frenzy, mind wrack, diversion (to interrupt is exit)
If you nail him depending on his hp he could be dead or almost. so he will try to run away try not to let him.
If you decide to use MR, before you do the illusionary leap you pop diversion and then when you go for mind wrack you use MR for the burst.
If he go stealth you can move out of the zone or you can wait for him, if you decide to wait count to 3 and pop block, if he attacks you, you will see block on your screen, when you do dodge hope he pops out of stealth and proceed to burst him.
if you see him using DP combo to go stealth, shadow refuge, binding powder and you can’t interrupt it (just the first two, the third one is instant you can’t interrupt).
Pop you stealth and reset the fight because now if you stay in the zone the thief has the upper hand and you have important skills in CD.
You can also save your MR for this time and wait for him, pop distortion to avoid the burst, leap to him Blurred frenzy, MR mind wrack. usually dead thief.
Don’t forget if you in Blurred frenzy you are hitting the thief and he is not hitting you.
Also don’t follow DD thiefs in to the middle of mob/crits this give them the advantage to be in stealth without the need to attack you and they can wait for the best moment to burst you down.
Ofc there aren’t 100% recipes to be successful, it all comes to the skill level of the thief to get out in time and your skill level to apply pressure.
If you are hit after basilik don’t forget to heal while you are in decoy’s stealth, after the first hit from the thief you have 4 seconds to apply your burst.

Since this morning (08.00 am GMT) no lag issues. Hurray!
Only one problem, got this strange thing, the game keeps running and my screen goes black and says “Input signal out of range”, happened twice this morning (12.50 pm GMT atm). I just shut down my PC and restart it, with no lag issues so far.
Any idea why this black screen with that message?
And yes I submited a ticket to the support team right after write this.
I’m actually happy with the no lag, thank you for showing us you indeed were taking care of this issue Ashley Segovia, but getting that disconnectivity can be nasty.
I have this issue since the beginning of the game.
I tried all the things I found about this subject, to solve the problem, and nothing worked.
In the end I just decided to manually increase the speed of my graphical card to 100% while playing the game.
Since I started to do this, my black screens stopped.
PS: I had all my drivers updated.

What map you’re experiencing the lag on → Desolation borderland

Some of the special event letter fill the mailbox too without showing it. If you have mails from there I would suggest to delete a few of them.
PS To clarify it: they are not counting as private mail, but they are treated as such.
Yeah it was the special event letters, they don’t appear on mail count, but they make it full.

2 decent players that have am idea what they are doing will kill a d/d ele and there are a decent amount of builds that can kill them 1v1
yup, for example:
try that as an engineer
I’m at work and can’t lose much time searching videos.
But my first search result in Engineer 4v1
I know that the guy play very well it’s not the question.
Every class can have this kind of videos.
Sometimes u can do well against a few guys because their skills is not that great or because their build is not amazing or their build just can’t counter yours but other times u just face people that know how to play and is a really different game.
About the mesmer video, i’m not asking for any nerfs it was just to show that it’s possible to win against D/D ele. The mesmer had a flawless victory he just had to wait for the right time to do is burst.
But people just want to press 1,2,3 and see a dead ele.
What I agree is that in WWW the capability that D/D bunker ele has to disengage battles is annoying but so is the thiefs with stealth. And if the fight is more or less near walls almost all other bunkers can reach the inside of a fort.

I wouldn’t say that 0/10/0/30/30 is the only good build, I think is probably best all around build.
I Was using 0/10/10/30/20 and was working very well for me. I just changed for the other build when I decided to try a new server.
The meta of people fighting against that server was 25% Mesmers and 85% of people were focusing on Conditions. So EA was handy because of extra condition removal.
Today I transferred home, so I will try my old build again.

It’s true that D/D Ele has good mobility, but we trait for it. Try a D/D ele without Zephyr’s Boon and lightning flash or even just without Zephyr’s Boon. And you will see that your mobility drops like hell.
2 days ago I was running from a team of 5 guys,(W3), their D/D could keep up with me but guess what? Their warrior also keep up with us.
This week I changed server to see new faces and to check how other servers play, and I must say that is a complete different meta.
While on my server most of people go for direct damage it seems that here at least 80% of people that i’m facing are focusing on conditions.
And the approach I have to do is completely different the one I used on my server.
For example I’m used to have my heals to give me advantage, well here that is not easy because if I face more then 1 guy usually one of them puts me poison.
If I charge to a team of 3/4/5 guys for example is a conditions feast, immobilize, chill, poison , confusion, lot’s of bleeds, I have a very high chance to not be able to disengage, it all depends on their classes and their skills.
You can say that I’m facing a more skilled server, well my home server is SFR that reached number 1 last week. So I will have to disagree.
For example on higher tiers you don’t see much Necros, here they are everywhere. Thiefs usually go for burst damage on higher tiers here 80% of them are conditions thiefs .
So I don’t believe Ele is OP. Direct damage builds are easier to face for a Bunker D/D because you can soak the damage and then heal back. But condition damage not so much they just need to poison ,slow, confusion and you will be in trouble if you stay there.
This in a 1vsX scenario, in a 1vs1 Ele is still great even against condition users but this doesn’t make it OP.

@Lifeson Well
I wasn’t ganking, but when I was running from the blob and took some guys to my team mates it seemed that Gan(k)nam style would fit that part of the video.

For Mistform + Cantrip Mastery and Cleansing Water/ Soothing Disruption bug or just for Mistform + Cantrip Mastery ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_hDTj0YS4E
It would be nice when you fix this you would also fix the Cleansing Water/ Soothing Disruption bug.
When you already have regeneration on you and you activated a Cantrip, your regeneration time increases but the condition removal is not activated. It only works when you don’t have regeneration on you.
