Missed all three beta weekends. =(

You had a point?

OK, well here’s another. The timings of the beta weekends would have been planned months in advance and are a great way to stress test systems, while also not eat into prime time working weeks. A few months from release, you can guarantee the developers have forgone their own families on behalf of working all hours on this expansion.

It’s an unlucky coincidence, sure, but hardly cause to say they are “ignoring the real people that made this game what it is today”. What does that even mean? Are all the people that got to play in the weekend events not real to you?

I’m sure it’s disappointing, but calling people “sheep”, who rightly point out to you how ridiculous you’re being is hardly a mature/warranted response. You’re not going to win many to your side with an attitude like that.

What is going on? Why is GW2 so boring?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jareth.4813

Jareth.4813

But right now I have a level 9 sylvari and all I can say is this game is INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY, INCREDIBLY EASY and BORING! (…) I am “completely” floored by how easy it is to “kill stuff”.

As you did some (a lot?) PvP on other games, you could try PvP in GW2. Also, if the starter map ist too easy for you (it is designed for new und unexperienced players that are new to the game and mmo mechanics) go to a higher level map. You can play at your own pace.

I only skimmed this thread but this appears to be the first time someone has said this. Weird it took this long.

If the OP is finding the starter area too easy (which he will do) then I’d go into a higher level zone. Much more challenging, and once you level up and that area becomes too easy, just move on to the next. I can guarantee you will die there.

That said, and I truly don’t intend any offence by this, but you can get to lvl 9 within an hour or so. Is that really enough time to judge a game’s difficulty and challenge? I’m sure there are other games out there where you would say the same thing to players of that opinion. An hour playing is certainly not enough for an MMO. Especially when all you have done so far is sample the tutorial area and then declare the game too easy.

In answer to your follow up question. At lvl 30 you can enter the first dungeon. Ascalon Catacombs. Give that a go. You will find the content in there far more challenging and you certainly will have to do more then stand still and autoattack. :p

I also wouldn’t get too hung up on levelling. Unlike in WoW, levelling in Guild Wars 2 is designed to be quick and easy. As others have said, levelling is more of a tutorial and can be done in a fraction of the time investment of other MMOs.

GW2 releases Story Journals: Feedback/Questions [Merged]

in Living World

Jareth.4813

This is pretty awesome but I don’t understand one thing, can somebody enlighten me?

They state you’ll be able to “unlock past story steps for 200 gems”, and if you read a bit further, it’s written you won’t be able to play the past storyline from S1 and your personal story.

To me it seemed logical to offer to play past releases for a small fee, so exactly what are we paying 200 gems for?

If you don’t log into the game during the two week period, you’ll not be able to unlock the new episode for free, so your alternative is to unlock it through gems.

Additionally, they are hoping to add S1 to this journal at some point in the future. Just not in July.

My only wonder, is how they will handle other players. Are we going to have several different instances of the game world for every volume with players going through each? If so, how have they solved the problem of player segregation? Add enough volumes and the player base is going to be stretched pretty thinly.

I’m sitting on what was over 400g worth of Laurels. Down to 276g worth now as the price of dye falls. Hopefully it will stay high in time for me to get home from work.

Currently you can sell 100 dyes within seconds of posting. Market is on fire but yeah, it’s not going to last.

Jareth.4813

Do we know if the trait books are going be RNG drops or a guaranteed drop from dungeons events and the like.

If it’s RNG based, and you can just go buy the books for gold. Being a devils advocate for the moment, is this not ‘pay to win’ as one can simply buy gold and get the trait?

From the picture, the trait appears to just unlock from a guaranteed drop, once you complete the event associated with it.

Hopefully that’s the case with all of them.

I love the idea of unlocking traits by doing things in the world. I can see these traits indirectly boosting population in many areas, since there’ll always be someone looking to unlock a new one.

That said, being able to skip those challenges and simply buy them outright…that is a slight concern.

Hopefully the cost will be high, so as to encourage players to actually play the game. A gold or two (plus maybe a laurel) for each might be enough.

I think it’s more like “it lasts 2 weeks so everyone gets a chance to play it” the actual attack only happens once imo.

Yeah I’d go with this.

Otherwise you start running into questions of, “so if that Miasma kills everyone, how come there are still so many survivors when we go back in?”

Just assume that, as far as the story is concerned, going in to rescue civilians happens only the once. When the Miasma hits, everyone left inside is dead leading up to the next part of the story.

Things That Aren't Working

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Jareth.4813

Jareth.4813

Awesome list, thanks for bringing these up!

  • 1-3 are legitimate issues that we are already working to fix, and yes, they affect the main server maps and not the overflows.
  • 4 – So the defend events won’t run if the Scarlet Alliances are currently holding the rally camps. If you see the crosses swords event at the camps, that means a defend even has already run and failed – you’ll have to succeed the recapture event before another defend event will start. If you are seeing it work out differently, let me know!
  • 5 – Rubble Piles will offer Found Heirlooms only once per day.

For number 5, you should make the rubble piles not appear to the players until they can be looted again. It’s hard to tell which ones I have/have not looted today.

On that note, some kind of indicator as to which of the six escort events we have done already would be nice.

Collectable Mini Interface

Posted by: Jareth.4813

Jareth.4813

So, after receiving the Dolyak Mini for WvW Season 1 my first reaction was “oh he looks cute”, then I deposited him in my collectables tab at the bank and looked at the collection I’d managed to accumulate over my time playing.

Most I’d forgotten I even had.

If we had an actual summoning interface, though, like the rangers for their pets. An interface that would allow us to summon any mini from anywhere in the world. I’d likely always have one running around with me.

Even if it was just for PvE, so as to not bog down server load in WvW with an army of plush gryphon’s. Would it not be nice to be able to see your whole collection at the touch of a button and summon which ever little critter you wished to join you?

Till then, if I want one to follow me around, I have to remember to pick it up from a bank, then make sure I don’t accidentally deposit it again when I send off some resources.

I hold no illusions that this is an easy task but hopefully, if the developers have time amongst the seemingly huge list of requests, perhaps such a QoL improvement might be made.

No, no, no.

Sheesh dude, take a chill pill.
I didn’t ask for anything to be handed over, all I said was placing a sample (whether it’s required or not) at the end of a jumping puzzle was not a well thought out idea.

I completed the puzzle, which was made more difficult with loads of people all trying it at the same time. Try timing a jump, onto floating stones with ~ 5-10 people doing exactly the same thing.

As others have already said, it clearly was well thought out, as you only need 10 of the 11 available samples.

There’s also no achievement points associated with this one challenge and it’s completely possible to get the Karka backpiece without slogging through the jumping puzzle.

In short, it was well thought out.

Wow, Rascal! You really know how to stir up the fanbois!!!

I read the OP, and, while I do NOT agree with every point, I DO agree with his assessment: GW2 failed!!! It has become nothing but a gem store with a game added to it. In my opinion, they focus MORE on selling product in the gem store than they do ANYTHING else! I’ve become so disillusioned by it, I haven’t signed on to my game in months! Hell, I can’t even play GW1 any more, it’s bugged me so bad!

Oh, by the way, Rascal: the grind was added for a reason: the longer the fanbois play, the longer they sign in and farm, the more opportunities the game has to sell them more crap in the gem store! THAT is the REAL purpose for the grind.

If you haven’t logged in in months then how do you know the game has become nothing but a gemstore? :p

For the record: I’ve been playing since launch, any gems I’ve acquired were purchased with ingame gold. Never felt like the gemstore was an obstruction to my enjoyment. So not really sure what you are getting at.

This is actually a really good cash shop, and I’ve seen a few. If you want some perspective, go and see Neverwinter’s cash shop. :p

This will be my last message regarding expansions as the thread is getting a bit sidetracked, but note the word “Primary” in that post.

At this point in time, they are just “preparing” an expansion, which could be something as simple as drawing up concepts. This could easily be a secondary focus whilst they push the living story.

Now back to topic. DX11 and all that jazz.

By comparison, Dota 2, which has millions of players is number 9.

I know I know, not everyone uses xfire etc etc. But still, it’s an impressive achievement for a 7 month old MMO, when most drop off the charts almost instantly.

Even if you disregard that data though. Anet have in fact come out and said that the concurrent numbers, after the initial drop off from launch, have now stabilised and are in fact increasing steadily.

NBC claims ownership of Guild Wars IP

It would be kind of nice to see ArenaNet look out for their user base and do something about NBCs false claims so perhaps companies will actually THINK before they just throw out the “you’re infringing on my copyright!” hammer.

Even if it was generated via some autodetector, perhaps they should actually put in the work if they want to protect their IP.

Well to be fair, this would likely be the first they hear of it.

This also isn’t the first time an automated system has falsely flagged content as infringing.

It happened to a site which hosted HBO content. Happened to be the official www.HBO.com site of course. :P

I’m sure too anyone who’s posted vids on Youtube have come across the occasional false flag.

It’s a bit difficult to defend an IP when a faulty AI is claiming ownership faster than you can keep up. At this point we don’t even know what it was precisely about those mods that flagged the system.

The temples are fun once or twice…but I just don’t care to try and run through all the aggro to get to the event. Plus, they are pretty much the same as the dragons…I have only been downed (not dead) a few times in all of the temple events I have been to…I think there should be more actions on the bosses part that knocks people away, stuns them and confuses them…just more interesting period…

I too am beginning to wonder about the apparent radio silence they’ve got going on.

By now we usually have a full break down of the highlights, including a few interviews here and there.

Unless of course if culling being switched off and WvW progression is it for this month (don’t get me wrong, that’s a great update). If this is the case however, then it would be best for Anet to come out and say that it’s going to be a relatively small patch for other areas before the hype gets too much.

To summarise, what we know so far:

- Culling removed in WvW.
- Progression system introduced into WvW (light on details).
- Part 3 of Flame and Frost, which is alluded to be actual content rather than teasers.

I don’t mind if this is it, just would be nice to have some confirmation ahead of time to help avoid all the negative threads that will likely spring up on patch day.
