This is how a dragon boss fight should look like. Sorry A-net but OP is right. The world boss fight are very … meh.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzDRiohYHhM
after fights like this, all players will say" Man I really “worked” for that reward chest" not like beating a world boss in 5 min.Watching this and then fighting Teq just makes me sad. Everyone just ignores the tendrils and who even remembers there is a bonewall? The adds just get cleaved down from everyone spamming AoE since it is somehow more efficient than single target spells against single targets.
I would love to see more boss fights like this. Though if they go on for 50 minutes, they’d have to have some pretty amazing mechanics and boss stages. :p
One issue I think is that some of Anet’s “bosses” are just human sized and as such when they’re being wailed on by 50 people it looks a bit silly. :p
Even if damage wise the boss in this vid is doing exactly what GW2 bosses do. It’s the dynamic nature of its movements which make the fight exciting. GW2 needs far more of these.
I think too that choosing to have the big dragons as stationary bosses was a mistake, and whist it may be too late to change those, I do hope future bosses will take a more dynamic approach.

I’ve played 4 classes extensively now. Necro, Thief, Warrior and Ele.
I don’t enjoy underwater combat with any of them. :p
First; the weapon choices, and thus skills are too limited.
Second; 3/4’s of your utilities/elites don’t work underwater.
Third; Likely because of first and second points, creatures seem to take longer to kill underwater.
Forth; There is nothing underwater that I can’t do better on land. Except move in the z-axis.
Fifth; Skills (particularly with the Ele) often miss when you are higher or lower than the thing your are fighting, making for a frustrating experience.
Sixth; Travelling underwater feels slower, likely because you can’t see as much moving terrain.
Seventh; It requires a completely different playstyle and build, so without practice underwater you often have no clue what your skills do. However there’s no point to going underwater so there’s no need to practice currently.
Things Anet could do to make underwater more desirable.
1) Add more weapons and increase the number of current utilities/elites that work underwater.
2) Add perks when underwater. A permanent speed boost would be nice for one.
3) Make it so that we can review class specific (Necromancer) underwater skills in the Hero panel.
4) Lessen the number of cc’s mobs have. Fighting Krait underwater is a nightmare with the number of pulls/slows they have on seemingly short cool downs.
5) Add a point to going underwater. :p Currently there is no reason to. As in there is nothing I can get underwater I can’t get by doing the same stuff on land without the previously mentioned limitations to skills.
6) Add an underwater world boss or two with staged mechanics and dragon lvl loot. With actual repercussions to the surrounding land area should they not be dealt with.
(edited by Jareth.4813)
I agree that the world bosses are far too easy when surrounded by 100’s of people. When there’s only about 20 they can be fun, but that rarely happens these days.
I’m hopeful though that Anet will have good things planned for these bosses once the revamps are done.
Fingers crossed for stages and failure scenarios where the bosses do something else rather than just hang around waiting for people to kill him.
GW2 was not designed to utilise a sub fee and as such doesn’t have the “tricks” other mmo’s use to extend your playtime and lure you into handing over the cash every month.
This is like asking, what if Diablo 3 had a sub fee? Or, what if Sim City had a sub fee? Or any online B2P game for that matter. They just aren’t designed for it and so it’s a weighted question from the outset as obviously the most common answer would be “no I wouldn’t pay”.
Which kits are you using
What level rares are you using
What is your sample size
ProofWell, I don’t have any proof, but I use BL salvage kits exclusively on all my lvl 80 rares and out of the last 17 rares I’ve salvaged, I’ve gotten zero ectos.
Worst RNG run ever. Sometimes I used to get none, but that was rarely. Now, I get none every time.
If this keeps up, I’ll stop buying BL kits and just sell the rare for 25-30s and buy an ecto. At least I’ll be guaranteed one each time.
17 rares and 0 ectos, you must be doing something wrong.. And I rarely ever say that.. But there’s statistically almost no way that’s possible. Please see “BL salvage VS Master Salvage” thread.
If you seriously did 17 with 0 ecto and make it to 20 rares with no ecto, I would send a bug report..
Well, we’ll see today. I have 2 rares in my alt’s backpack, and I’m waiting on the Maw event to start. I’ll put these rares in the bank and have my main you has the BL salvage kits in her bags salvage them.
But yes, I seriously salvaged 17 rares with no ecto using nothing but BL kits. I’m a gem buyer. I don’t see the point in salvaging unless I’m using a BL kit.
If I salvage these next 3, and no ecto(s), then I’ll take your advice and put in a bug report.
So I salvaged those 3 rares and got 2 ectos total. So from 20 BL salvages 2 ectos.
Worst RNG ever. Or conspiracy theory. Take your pick. Either way, that is unacceptable for something purchased from the gem store. For the price of the kits, the % chance of ‘rare’ material should be higher if this is the way salvaging is going to be now.
Sorry but I have to ask. :p
Are you absolutely sure that those rares were lvl68+?
Did you actually begin counting from the first time you got no ecto’s, or is 17 an estimate based on your feelings that it was a large amount?

Sounds like the sound bug, so turn the sound quality in options to the middle setting (as in not highest quality). This might fix your problem.
Other than that you should have posted this in tech support. ANet can help you there if the problem persists.
I think the only point I disagree with is the severity of Nickel and Diming.
I have never had cash flow problems in this game, even with all the costs associated with travel and repairs. I’m not even a power trader. I just play the game and make far more money then I spend.
As to the rest. These are all nice area’s that could do with some love even now 2 months later. It’s good to see some of these things are actually being worked on/implemented so hopefully it’ll get there in the end.
Look we are both English and Europeans. So long as we are a part of the EU and part of Europe we are Europeans too.
English -> Europeans -> Earthlings
We don’t need more xenophobia here.
Well Habib has put his own reputation on the line (and yes he has a good one thus far), by saying that they are turning culling off completely in March.
I’m perfectly happy to wait and see what March will bring.
Amazing news and yet still some whine.
It gives you wrinkles you know…
Tbh I doubt there will be such a thing as “The big one”.
You’re going to get the features as and when they are ready.
This month you got Solo queue and matchmaking, plus a new pvp map.
Who knows what next month will bring to the table.
nup. no solo que, just yolo que.
aanet trolled us good.
Why is it not solo queue?
I’m genuinly curious as I’m still downloading the patch.
Do you not click a button and then get put into matchmaking as a single entry?
Yes, with the possibility of being matched against full premade teams. You could ALWAYS do this. The option to hit a button wasn’t there before, but you could easily click “create team” and then with only you in the party hit “submit roster” then it would queue you as a solo player. Really, this is just a cleaner way to do what we could always do.
Ah so a true solo queue would be if it only put you up against other solo players?
“There is now a “Join Solo” button in the tournament browser that automates a single-player tournament entry.”
Looks like solo queue to me, but hey I’m still patching so what do I know.
Even then where did I say that what they had given you was significant? Still ways to go sure, but they are adding stuff as and when it’s ready.
Like I said, there won’t be a “Big” pvp patch. It’ll be slow and steady.
It is not a solo queue, it is the option for the game to automatically place you in a tournament as a solo player (kind of like the great Join Now Hotjoin button). Basically the game was so well developed before that new players thought you had to join tournaments as a team because the option to join as a solo player was cumbersome. So no, this is not a solo queue.
Have you actually tried it?
Does it not take into account your personal rating when matching you with other players?
It does say “automated” so curious how in depth that automation is.
Tbh I doubt there will be such a thing as “The big one”.

Isn’t the PvP patch coming in March?
Or is that just WvW?
Erm Necros are incredibly survivable.
I have 3000 toughness on mine with 30k hp not even including DS. I think I’ll be fine surviving. :p
Issuing ultimatums to a game is extremely silly to begin with.
If you don’t enjoy the game, stop playing it, you don’t need to make these grand statements.
You argument: If someone hurts you in a relationship, just walk away from that person. Don’t ever, under any circumstances, address your grievances. About the gist?
I’ve never given my partner an ultimatum.
If your relationship comes down to that as a last resort then the relationship ended a long time ago.
To put it simply. Handing someone an ultimatum (make or break) and voicing ones grievances are two completely different things. I’d hope you can tell the difference.
Bait and switch?
They told us nearly a month ago that Lyn’s would not be selling keys upon her return.
Hardly a surprise.
I think the bait and switch the OP refers to is the one performed during Wintersday – where they said Lyns would be coming back afterwards and forgot to mention the removal of keys. Plenty of players who used her exclusively for keys continued to stockpile CCCs during that time, which they would not have done had the information been made available from the start.
Same thing I was alluding to.
Whilst yes they didn’t say at the time they removed Lyns, they did still tell us in good time.
A bait and switch would suggest they never told us about her reduced stock ahead of the patch. Which is just not true. We’ve had nearly a month to come to terms with it.
Cya guys then. Have fun with whatever games you play.

So reading another thread, it seems like some players are still seeing the dailies from yesterday, rather than today – however, from what others are reporting, completing the dailies listed in their Hero panel won’t actually progress them.
Players with this problem are instead “blindly” doing the actual requirements for today – and that is earning them the chest while doing the ones listed (underwater combat, combos, etc.) does not.
So give that a try –
5 events
10 instances where you heal a player/NPC ally
13 varieties of enemies
15 attacks successfully dodged
20 gatheringsIf you’re not progressing, try doing these and see if that works as other players are reporting.
Re quoting this so the op can read it.
It is progressing, it’s just not updating the panel for a select few.
Obviously we don’t know what has caused it but you can still get the achievement by doing the list above.
Ok just crafted 30 oricalcum ingot and my achievemetn is still 0/10. The other achievemetn are progressing but the new one stay always 0/10. ANET FIX IT
Maybe read your own thread?
The reason this is happening has been posted already. You are incorrectly being shown the tasks for yesterday but have to do today’s tasks instead.
It’s a bug certainly, and sure it’s inconvenient but at least you know now what you need to do to get the daily.
Is crafting part of the dailies now? It is not listed in the dailies slot.
The dailies change every day. It’s random what we’ll get each day.
The crafting one was so easy to do though as you only had to refine 10 things. So a lvl 1 crafter could simply refine some copper ore and be done in less than 10 seconds.
Not even close to as big a deal as some were trying to make it out to be here.
I would say it will end fatal if you remove re-rushing waypoints.
They already removed them.
I haven’t done any dungeons post-patch yet, but maybe you simply can’t waypoint res while a party member is in combat?
Correct. That’s exactly what you cannot do now.
Personally I think this game will be much better for it. Especially once they finish going through every boss in the game and giving them unique stages and mechanics, rather than “do the same thing for 10 minutes till it dies”.
Perhaps by free, they meant you wouldn’t have to get them to get full world completion if you already have that accolade.
Not that big of a deal to go and activate them though. Certainly not at the level you try to express in your thread title.

Recommend you do dodging last. That one is probably going to be the hardest to keep track of if the numbers aren’t updating.
Having not done CoF path 3 i’m not sure what this “bomb run” entails, but it sounds like you were employing tactics developed with res rush in mind.
I’m sure it won’t take long for people to adapt and come up with new strategies. Then Anet will revamp every boss and we’ll have to do it again. :p
Haven’t seen anything that was worth the hype the patch was getting.
Complete opposite for me, but to each his own.
Funny because I feel the same as Krom.
It was labelled as the patch that would “make or break” people returning to GW2. But tbh, the patch didn’t contain anything at the level of which it would make or break the game for anyone.
It’s just very, middle of the road.
It was labelled as a small patch to lay the ground work for the patches coming in February and March.
Anet never claimed it to be more than that. They were also very clear in what was to be expected in this patch.
Any further hype or expectations are the fault of the player blindly hoping for more than what was promised.
Everything Anet said would be in this patch was delivered. As such the patch, in my eyes, easily lived up to the hype.
Sorry. What i meant “it was labelled the patch that would make or break”, i meant by players, bloggers, MMO outlets, youtube vid creators and GW2 oriented podcasts.
Soz. Should have been clearer on that. Both Tales of Tyria on the livestream, and Massively on podcast have both said generally, that the update is something to look forward to, but if they don’t start changing some things urgently, then it’s heading to a dark place.
Though, we both may be speaking out of turn here.
The patch cant yet justify the hype factor because, as you said, it’s only some of the changes…not all.
The rest we’ll have to wait for in Feb.
Indeed.
Though it would appear that those blogs were at fault for setting players expectations higher than what Anet had said was coming.
Feb/March will be the core content. Those are the real meat of this update after all.
Makes me wonder though. Colin said Jan was a “small” patch. I’m looking forward to seeing what Anet’s idea of “big” is. :p
Next stage of fixes are hinted to be coming over the coming months.
You already waited 6 months, what’s a couple more if it fixes the problem once and for all.
What are you talking about?
The dailies for today don’t have the underwater or combo killer tasks. Pretty sure it’s the same for every server…
Also the combo killer was taken out of rotation because it wasn’t “working as intended”. So it shouldn’t be available to do at all.
Dodge and Ress both worked fine for me and my guild. Naturally you need to get the right timing for the dodge. You should also get the ress daily the moment you revive a downed player/npc.
Haven’t seen anything that was worth the hype the patch was getting.

Read the first sentence again, combat is the key word.
Also you can still res people by hand during combat.
once they’ve nailed down the daily tasks to get us out into the world.
I’m pretty sure that the old dailies already got us “out into the world” just as much as the new changes could be thought of as doing since they are essentially exactly the same thing except the new changes only make them more annoying and time consuming to do but don’t actually involve doing anything new other than crafting which actually gets us back into town and away from the world.
To repeat. The daily tasks designed to get us out into the world (and not into the same farm areas each day) are not done yet. At that point we get the choice of 4 of 6.
That said, the crafting task takes just 10 seconds, simply refine some copper ore. It’s a level 1 recipe.
They told us we’d be able to complete Dailies by doing only a few of them, not having to do all 5.
They lied, and you have to do all 5.
They didn’t lie. They said very clearly that the option to do 4 of 6 would come in a later patch, once they’ve nailed down the daily tasks to get us out into the world.
Pretty sure they said Laurels are a currency like Karma and Gold. As in it doesn’t take up bank space.
Great.. because what I want to do at crafting level 400 is just craft 10 items for the sake of crafting 10 items.
Refining ore counts. Will take you literally 10 seconds at any level.
Be honest OP…you started this rumour didn’t you? :p
They also never stated that it was coming at the end of December. It has always been end of January.
Man if you guys added a dota style pvp game mode, in a similar style to Smite…
I for one would be sooo happy. :p
Axe/Sword on my Warrior.
Don’t know which other classes you are looking at but Axe is much better on a warrior.
Very little info on Balance fixes and Bugged game fixes, new contents fine after the original game works properly, they need to spend more time and manpower into fixing existing content sheesh…
He’ll get to those questions, they’re in the list.
Chris is planning to continue doing this for around 4 more hours or so, so give him time to write.
It took about 2.5 hours to complete the event.
It needed those drops.
Same for me, Champions are definitely not guaranteed to drop loot as the patch notes suggest.
Surely you make enough from all the drops to alleviate the need for extra coin?
I made over a gold just from doing levels 1 and 2 for instance.
Really? My friends have gotten tons of rares, but I’m at difficulty 5 now and all i’ve gotten is 1 onyx core.
I kinda agree that mobs need to drop at least some silver.
You kind of answered your own question there. :p
I do find it hard to believe that you haven’t gotten a single other yellow in 5 runs, but if that’s true then you have some mighty bad luck. :p
Don’t forget to also include the money made from all the greens/blues. It all adds up.
The difference here is jumping puzzles such as this actually do hamper individuals who want to play the game, but due to disabilities lack the fine motor skills to perform them. Previous jumping puzzles were mostly “optional” and would not hamper an individual’s attempts to advance a character’s equipment. The jumping puzzles in FotM do interfere with those individuals.
This is actually a very clear outline of my concern. Putting jump puzzles in a dungeon is a terrible idea. I hope someone from ArenaNet actually reads this.
Whilst I understand your disability. Platforming is a well used and very prevalent form of gameplay.
A lot of games out there have this in spades and the ones used in this dungeon are certainly some of the easiest examples of platforming I’ve ever seen. Nothing moves and the platforms are very close together and a nice size.
If you still can’t do it after some practice, then get a friendly mesmer to portal you up. :p I’d advise getting used to platforming though, there are a tonne of great games out there that like a bit of jumping and you’ll be missing out if you don’t get to grips with it.
Surely you make enough from all the drops to alleviate the need for extra coin?
I made over a gold just from doing levels 1 and 2 for instance.
I too got two bags of gold. Which I wouldn’t mind if they actually had gold in them. :p
Any chance you can just rename them to bags of silver? :p
