Blood and Seras, thanks for the build ideas. You have me looking at this a little differently now to get an FT based build. :-) Not a big fan of rifle but Pistol Shield can be added for condi and some survival.

Ukuni, AWESOME troll the other team video. Quite comical :-D. I wish gadgets/ pistols were a little more viable. Would love to do a P/P Gadget build. I made one for roaming a while a go but not much help other wise.

More Goofy/Fun builds still wanted :-D

When you have gear like a spring loaded ram head that pops out of your belt, an invention originated by Data from the goonies (slick shoes) and your guns shoot just about everything but bullets.. it really hard to take things too seriously ;-).

Hello fellow engis,

First off I’m only a casual player ankitten ot looking for an elite build. I mainly goof around, used to play dungeons and do events in the high level zones just to get karma/exotic gear. I’m still using my first set of gear that I basically chose because of looks rather than stats lol. I’m looking to go back to doing dungeons with my engi just for fun. Would like a viable FT build possibly but am open to other fun ideas. Nothing that’s gonna top the charts but just something that I can do my part and is fun. Here is my current build and gear. Am willing to build a whole new set of gear for this but like I said, just for fun.

the “FIX” to rifle turret barrels for range and damage.. it now only effects the over charge and not the normal turret according to the tool tip…

I hope this doesn’t take another month to fix.

Build diversity is why they are trying to promote yet all they did was nerf some current builds.

Pistol lovers… still no help there.
Gadget lovers.. sweet a new gadget.. oh right.. gadgets suck.. long cool downs, no condition removal, 1 stun breaker… yep.. no help there

Bombs are nice, make a bunker build that worked even better…
Turrets.. a little help but not enough since the removal of condition nerf … among the turrets only 1 condi cleanse, 1 stun breaker (if you don’t have the turret out rolls eyes) yep.. no one going turrets still.

So where was the initiative to go build diversity… other than free up 2 adept spots by messing with speedy kits and moving incendiary powder. Still pigeon holed into kits for damage and elixers for cleansing. Those two alone take up most of our talents that we could put into other interests. We need more options, not taking away things we currently use.

I actually miss the warrior meta… at least warriors played to take points. Now all I see if thieves glory farming randoms. 7 thiefs and a Mesmer on one team. We went from condition wars with necros.. now we have spam wars with thieves. sigh

Was in a PVP match and found a warrior just standing in the middle of a zone with 4 people attacking him… he just stood there and took it… never died.. ran away when low health.. came back 5 second later, full health and stood there again.

Went into spectated looked at his spec and found this… Explain how this is balanced. (and people worry about guard/engi bunkers)

Tired of seeing so many hammer warriors. Anyone know if we are getting a new FOTM after next patch cause this is getting annoying.

5 on 5, total of 5 warriors between both teams… 4 out of 5 have hammers…. The class with the MOST options of different weapon sets and 80% carry hammers?

How about a nerf hammer!

Back to the topic I would say these changes would be great for Explosive shot
1) Up the bleed time to 4s
2) Allow Shrapnel and Explosive Powder affect Explosive shot
3) Combine Hair Trigger and Coated Bullets or Rifled barrel and Hair Trigger

Nothing OP, just enough to bring it up to par.

Well with all this talk i’m starting to change my tune about how I feel about our weapon skills. :-) Rifle is sounding better after looking at the numbers and thinking about it in the way Nevir states about us being skirmishers. Pistol could use slight tweaks and i’m sure it would be better. Up the bleed to 3-4 seconds to allow a little bit more stacking and allow explosive traits to work for explosive shot and this would help greatly. Having accuracy on Poison dart volley at a 600 range at least would help to… you have to be like right next to the person to get more then one hit lol. (I hate cheering for myself when I get a second hit with this weapon lol)

The reason I want a little change to weapon skills is I want to be able to play without kits. I want my turret build, I want my gadget build, I want my pure elixir build. (I used to have a great turret P/P sPvP build until they took conditions away from rifle/rocket turret :’( booo. also had a fun gadget build until the condi spam era came in to play no condi cleanse with gadgets) so here is a new idea

We can’t change weapons, fine… I’d love to us be able to put a kit in our change weapon slot but that would prob have a balance issue. (3 turrets and tool kit sounds pretty kitten lol) so how about we get a “CHANGE AMMO” button instead of change weapon. Sounds like something an engi could have.

For example Rifle…. put in Deer slugs and you get more ranged shots like hip and net shot…. put in buck shot and BLAM you get blunder buss. OC and Jumpshot could prob work for both so not to kill any builds.
Deer slugs get Hip shot, Net shot and maybe a new skill like Armor Piercing shot where it stacks some vulnerability but piercing the armor of the target. Hip shot and Piercing shot would have reduced effectiveness on anything closer then 600
Buck shot gets Blast (600 range shot gun blast style auto fire) and Debris… engi shoves nuts/bolts/dirt and whatever else he has in his pockets and blasts the enemy dazing and damaging them.

Give me some time i’ll think up new ammo for the pistol as well. :-) Any thoughts on new ammo option? :-D

So Necro’s feel our pain with that one but at least necro’s 2-5 staff skills have a 1200 yard range to match… Engi 3,4 have 400, and 5 has 700 yard range…

Coglin: First off, drop the attitude. I’m stating my opinion of something i’d like to see fixed.. you don’t agree that’s fine and you are welcome to debate but being disrespectful about it isn’t necessary. You also assume a lot. Yes I failed to mention I was comparing ranged weapons.. for a similar comparison.. I thought common sense would have taken place there.. everyone else seems to get it.

Fast Asleep: Homing torpedo is not AOE. There is no radius mentioned it is single target only. Plust the speed ot it can practically be out run by anyone with swiftness. Not everyone runs power builds we should have the option. All other classes seem to have a condition weapon and a power weapon underwater. Except us. (ele’s have choice of attunement).

Enjoying the talks and debates. Seems everyone agrees that pistol #1 needs some help. Rifle is our most balanced weapon except for the whole range issue. almost need a choice of a shotgun or a rifle as a weapon, not this half and half stuff lol.

First off thanks to everyones input, I like good discussion of other peoples opinions.
For those doing the data crunching i’m sorry if my knowledge of the numbers is off. I got all my comparisons from “http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/” It seems to be up to date and a fast way of comparing skills as base level.

Also i’m looking at 1V1 damage. Aoe is nice but doesn’t help at all in champion fights or sPvP where I find myself in 1v1 situations.

thanks singer for the math, I wasn’t looking at how multipliers work, just looking at base damage.

TerraHero: I would be fine with that.. I want a level playing field, whether all the others are brought down or we are brought up, just make it fair

Rifle #1: Lowest damage of a 2 handed 3/4sec cast weapon. Boring appearance and doesn’t relate to any of the weapon’s other skills

Pistol#1: Lowest damage of all 1 handed 1/2sec cast and lowest bleed duration of all weapons in game.

Harpoon Gun #1: Not just lowest, but absolutely HORRIBLE damage for the longest underwater cast time for a primary weapon in the game. (warriors hit more damage on one of their 1/4 sec cast shots then we do on our 1sec cast shot! WT Kitten!) No option for a condition build to even attempt to use weapon. Projectile speed is EXTREMELY slow and doesn’t “home in” very well for being called homing Torpedo.

No wonder we feel FORCED to use kits, and at the sacrifice of utility slots ontop of it.

ANET, PLEASE fix our weapons!

Great topic and great ideas. Keep this in a positive light. Keep suggestions as advice for improvements not complaining or saying “that won’t happen”. Keep constructive and it gets noticed.

OP thank you for putting time into this you expressed a lot of the topics I was thinking about, i’d like to add a few of my own. Mostly about pistols. I love pistols and would love to have a pistol build that didn’t NEED a kit with it.

I hate that every build NEEDs a kit to be competitive. The fact that Engi’s are forced to give up a utility slot to have a second bar of abilities is pretty lame. Would love to see an option to have a kit go in the “switch weapon” slot for Engi’s. We can get rid of the healing skill toolbelt slot and use F1 for our weapon kit spot in there. As for med kit.. combine 4&5 into slot 4 and make spot 5 the self heal. (just an idea)

Pistol #1:
- Explosive shot should work with the explosive traits. E.G. Shrapnel and explosive powder.
- Bleed duration should be increased. This is the LOWEST bleed duration of every other weapon skill in the game and its meant as a condition weapon. (power is rifle) Even if this was a power weapon the damage is laughable compared to every other damage weapon out there.
– Explosive shot = 2sec bleed 1/2 sec cast
– Vital shot = 4sec bleed 1/2 sec cast
– Crossfire = 3 sec bleed 1/4 sec cast
– Blood/Rending curse = 4 sec bleed 1/2 sec cast
– Bleeding shot = 6 sec bleed 3/4 sec cast
– Stone shards = 3 stacks, 6 sec bleed, 1.5 sec cast

These are just the ranged #1 comparables.. not to mention the other classes have more then just this one skill to stack bleeds, engi’s don’t. (without using kits and even with kits we only have Box of nails for 2 sec bleed with 10 sec cool down and tranq dart for 4 sec bleed at 3/4 second cast.)

Pistol #2:
ACCURACY. Damage isn’t horrible, cast time could be a little faster but accuracy would be great. Give it the accuracy of skills like Volley or Rapid fire, then Coated bullets might be worth it for this one

Pistol #3: No real change needed. Works well

Pistol #4:
To make coated bullets be more interesting, change this from a cone effect to a blast of super heated/combustable oil that sticks to the target and burns same as blowtorch. Make this a blast finisher but only hits 1 target unless you have coated bullets.

Pistol #5:
Speed up the projectile and this one works great.

Just new ideas to make things more interesting for us pistol users. Would LOVE Pistol 1 to be a viable option.

Gadgets: Make gadgets like signets and give them a passive effect when not used.

Those are my ideas. Keep the constructive ideas coming. Maybe we’ll get the well versed and adaptable engi we all want. :-D

Rifled Turret Barrels Grand Master Trait does not effect overcharges of Rifle, thumper or rocket turret. Rocket turret normal shot damage is actually lowered by this trait all together. Along with taking away condition damage from rifle and rocket turret, as well as playing with the ai… pretty much useless even more so then they were before. I used to have a great PvP build with condition damage and turrets with P/S or P/P… that’s scrap too now. Bad patch for me.. basically giving up on my engi till next patch… or fixes at least :-(

This does not affect any of the damage for Rifle, Thumper, or rocket turret over charges and it actually LOWERS the damage of rocket turret over all according to the tool tips.

Ranger have trait which give pet quickness when he go down, it would make that trait useless then. Ranger attacks dont scale kitten good as they should with power because we have pet. Pet AI is kinda dumb, its easy to evade most of melee pets attacks just by using elevation. Pets dont have evade mechanic and it would be too easy to rez because of them (you want probably to rez from killing spirits also?) and it would put rangers in huge disadvantage. Even ranger birds need to use stairs to reach enemy which is laughable (Huge distant to run for pet if ranger is standing at window in clocktower and want pet to reach enemy on point) . I need to use utility if i want to place pet where i want it to be.

Those are good points to have pets be a reason to not be able to rez off of.. and I didn’t think it was a great idea myself but it would be fair. Choose the other option then. Pets can not target/attack downed players to keep the scale even. Being rezzed off of a pet is too much of an advantage.. well so is having the pet attack the downed opponent while the player hides out of sight to avoid damage. Can’t have your cake and eat it too… either they are part of the battle or not.

They either need to be part of the battle fully or left as a companion.
Option1:
They are part of the battle, they can fight and do battle no matter what which means they can kill you while you are down even if their owner is off somewhere else. This also means you can rally off them if you or a team mate can kill them while you are down.

Option 2:
While the opponent is downed they can not interrupt, do damage, take damage or play blocker. This forces the player to finish the fight they are in and not hide line of sight and let their pet do it.. or head off towards their next objective while leaving the companion to finish the job.

They are part of the battle or not… choose you should not have the advantage of both.

From what I’ve read and experienced myself it seems a big problem is Conditions are now viable in PvE but are way too strong in PvP and condi based builds are now ruling where power used to rule.

Would making toughness be viable against Condition damage as well as power in PvP only help this damage dispute? No skills need to be changed, condi spammers can still spam but to a more balance affect?

This is what you said in a thread called “I can’t take all the crying” yet here you are crying about engi’s being “OP”. Engi found a counter for the condition spamming necro… adapt, stop crying for a nerf and learn to play. You said it yourself that necro’s and engi’s are balanced. so stop trying to unbalance them.

Been having trouble finding dungeon groups lately, not sure if I just have bad luck/timing or if the interest just isn’t there any more.

Would love to see a PUG Dungeon Finder added to the game. Kind of like the PVP solo join to help find groups wanting to do the same dungeon.

To the OP: a GRAND MASTER trait on a particular build on one class can counter your condi spam. Sorry that you can’t face melt everyone all the time. Suck it up buttercup. Time to change your strategy a little. If you truly do play engineer a lot then you should know how to do this considering how many of our builds have been hit with the nerf-hammer since release. Engi’s adapt to survive, you go play your FOTM

I understand that dirame but I wasn’t using net turret glitch. I started the turret build with flame turret and was still able to do the 1v2. Time my dodge rolls, use glue shot, use rocket over charge to keep them away and then smoke field off of flame turret. that’s enough defence for me. Oh and supply drop stun and net turret from supply drop as well. Only thing I don’t have is a good condi remover. Net turret was more playing around with vuln stacking with glue shot. The net turret fix would not destroy my builds viability like I’ve seen it lately.

Immersturm you expressed a concern in a polite manner and you thanked the dev that answered.. it should have ended there and you are not in the wrong for expressing your concern. That’s why the dev answered you.

The people that are wrong are people like Shanks R us that jump on a threat that they see a Dev respond to and say something that has NOTHING to do with the thread because they THINK that the devs are going to read this thread more then others. Its just annoying and pathetic.

Or Ederyn who decides to point out when he feels the devs are doing wrong… I would love to see him slapped in the head with a ban hammer

That does make sense on the dot ticking for damage. However does it need to deliver that much damage, especially on an adept trait. Engi’s used to have something like that too called static discharge… and kit refinement and both got nerfed because they were deemed “too powerful for an adept trait, builds should not be decided or based around adept traits”. So heads up to all the necro’s out there. Might not last, enjoy it while you can.

I have stated this idea before too and so have numerous other engineers on numerous threads… never with any response. Yes the toolbelt skill missing for things like B.O.B is an issue with doing this. Maybe that’s a sacrifice the engi will have to choose when putting a kit there. That should be up to the individual engi. Bomb kit as utility and gain the tool belt skill or put it in the secondary slot and lose this skill. For flame thrower and tool kit its not a huge loss… but for bomb and grenade kit it is. I’d still love the option to have a kit in a weapon slot to allow a little more selection in builds such as turret and gadget builds.

I was seeing that from necro’s even before this patch. Now with more necros playing with them being the FOTM we will be seeing it a lot more i’m sure. I thought the fear damage was supposed to be per application not per second feared…?

I don’t know what changed in the last patch but the build I enjoyed playing feels pointless now..
1) could be the caliber of players i’m playing against has increased due to the new patch?
2) could be the amount of aoe being thrown down (especially from necro marks/wells)

Not sure but I used to be able to 1 v1 and 1 v 2 and have a good battle with any class or groups of class with my build… now it doesn’t matter what I do my turrets and me are just done within seconds. Necro’s hurt a lot but most classes seem to be having a simpler time with me now. I don’t get it, the patch was good to engi’s .. guess just not my build.

Yes not the most optimum or popular but I made it work and had fun.

Guess everyone elses buffs are destroying my turrets even faster now… and still no help for a turret loving engi…. guess i’ll revisit on another patch or see if I can find a new build. :-( I’ll miss you turrets.

Help with PVE Cond Dmg Build for dungeons

So most of my dungeon gear is Prec/Tough/Cond damage but i’m not enjoying the build I used to use. Any suggestions or advice on a build that will give me good survivability as well as focus on crit/cond damage. I’m open to all ideas but would rather not replace my gear. Also using runes of the undead… sigils are still up for debate. (not a huge nade fan either but will consider them if they work in pve)

I watched a thief do exactly this with 3 people around him… and just evaded all damage for 40 seconds until his teammates arrived… That’s 40 seconds we can’t cap 1 of 3 points… you can have the whole team on the thief. Constant evade avoids ALL damage.

Thank you for all the advice on how to make FT function with it being in the state it is in. Hopefully Anet will get around to fixing this (among some of the other engi bugs) some time soon. Would love to see FT be more useful as a Power/CC kit. :-)

Still waiting and hoping for a response from Anet if this is even being looked at….

That is the build I play for sPvP. I doubt it works anywhere else really well and honestly there will be people arguing on how well it works for what I use it for. I find it fun, its a different build. I don’t like healing turret but if you do then you can save the alchemy points and either get stronger turrets or turrets that blow up when killed, b oth would benefit this build :-).

When protecting points.. 1 v 1 the only fight I have a tough time with is mesmers. Glass cannons are hilarious because turrets take them down before they have a chance to hit me.. I don’t even have to use my pistols .. just avoid their burst.

Questions or improvement ideas i’d love to hear. I don’t play seriously I just joke around and have fun.

nakoda, your elitist attitude towards everyone else being wrong except you is not interesting or helpful and you are not the end all be all of “the game we play”. None of what you say has been helpful or very relevant to the topic at hand. If someone wants to use the FT as a damage kit they are completely allowed to try and have fun with it whether you think its wrong or not. What YOU say is irrelevant! Stop QQ and trolling.

Back to the topic at hand, if I can target a mob (pvp or pve) and be able to hit them with explosive shot, hip shot, and tranquilizer dart while the mob is anywhere in the 180 degree range in front of me, but when I use a flame jet and it misses consistently.. that is a glitch that needs to be fixed. Whether it is a game mechanic issue, a skill mechanic issue or something else, it is still something that shouldn’t happen.

A fix is still required.

Phineas, your method will still work even with a target selected so fixing the issue will not prevent you from doing what you already are. Fixing the issue WILL allow someone like me to keep a target, use flame jet as the mechanic is supposed to work and allow me to use my other skills. Missing when the opposition is standing INSIDE the flame cone is really frustrating.

Fix is still wanted.

OR… they can make it work like every other mechanic in the game to allow you to hit the target you are focused on. If I was to ONLY use flame jet then yes that might work but all the other skills I use require a target. So I say again.. please fix flame jet to work on target.

How is it possible that flame jet still has the problem with missing so much. It is not like it is the only cone style weapon.

I have never seen any of these have the same miss issue as flame jet. Please look into fixing this! Flame jet has had this issue for far too long!!!

Okay was just fooling around with my engi in spvp and realized that elixir S was double nerfed…. I knew that they took away the ability to heal while small.. but you are no longer invulnerable… you evade attacks instead. So hit it when you have conditions on you and watch your health drop and be helpless to do anything about it… AWESOME…. sad panda

I agree Pistols SO need some love from A-Net. I love using pistol(s), whether as P/P or P/S i still love them.
1) Fix the speed so they are the half second cast they should be. (feels closer to rifle speed)
2) Increase the accuracy of Poison Dart Volley at longer range
3) Allow explosion traits to work for “Explosive shot”
eg. Explosive powder, Shrapnel, steel packed powder
4) Blow torch should be a blast finisher (or maybe a push back)
5) Glue shot duration increase.

Please A-Net, pistols need a little love.

Well, i thought i’d try back and see what has changed and not much… same classes still OP… engi still getting the short end of the stick….

You know your game is NOT balanced when:

- A warrior can hit 9k damage with one button (kill shot, eviscerate, 100 blades) yet engi gets nerfed so they can’t use a 6k heal without interupt (elixer s)
- A thief can spam 4.5k per heart seaker, yet engi can’t put down a turret and pick it back up for a 5 k heal…. (we have to put it down, hit the over charge.. then pick it back up)
- A ranger pet can do more dps than the ranger, yet engi can’t get turrets that have a decent amount of health and damage. (had a pet do 17k worth a damage in a fight with a ranger)
- Rangers crossfire shoots twice as fast as explosive shot yet they both say 1/2 second cast…
- EVERY other class gets minimum 2 sets of 5 skills (2 weapon sets, ele gets 4 with atunements), 1 heal, 3 utility skills and an elite… except engineer who get 1 set of 5 skills and to get another set we have to give up a utility slot…..
