543 point system is the culprit.

No. This isn’t the issue. It may be the reason for this purported ‘maguuma strike’ but it’s not the issue with BG.

Mass stacking to jack up one server (Maguuma) has always been an issue.
Blackgate overstacking has always been an issue.

Unless ANet puts in serious work to limit servers’ ability to overstack the problem won’t be fixed.

Core servers need to be permanently closed.
Population caps for link servers need to be very low. Link servers need to be easy for ANet to spin up.

543 is a problem, it is the reason TC got locked into T1. It was the 5th ranked server at the time and had a 5% chance to roll T1 (which it got) in the week that they changed to the 543 scoring. Because of the scoring they couldnt lose points, and ended up gaining points. They can not lose enough points to make it easy to drop back down. Here is a image from near the end of the week before it got links; this was its worst loss this year and still gained score.

Not sure when you added our ping to the option window below the frame rate, but thank you.

Any chance we can have a option one day to show it above our map, text box, or something like that? Pretty please, I like to know when I am lagging (for when I should fight/run/give up).

(And before anyone points it out 200 is a good ping for me with gw1 and gw2; don’t think I have seen it any lower than that for me. I am from New Zealand after all)

I was just about to post this as well. Turned on my computer and gw2.exe was missing. Downloaded the gw2setup.exe, ran it, and avast was telling me that gw2.tmp was malware. I selected the option to run it anyways.

Edit: Just adding that I am running 64bit windows 7. I wont bother with my hard ware since I dont think that would matter in this case.

Blocking people from seeing it would not integrate, it would segregate. Individual guilds should have permission control over who comes to give them a look-see but the game itself should not. Nor should only guild leaders have access to seeing all the choices, though via permission control they might set it up so only they can actually implement a choice for the guild.

I believe the general thrust of CDI commentary has been to find ways to make the guild hall system inclusive, an enhancement to game play, and broadly accessible.

I think you misunderstood me a little bit. The guild halls that I was thinking about are set halls that don’t change in looks, and many guilds can get the same one. For example a Ascalon themed guild hall that has a physical location in Ascalon with a portal to going into it, and many guilds can have this hall as theirs, but if someone was in a guild that was using lets say a Kryta themed guild hall and they walked into the Ascalon one then they would be entering a empty zone since there is no guild associated to that instance (hence guards to stop people from entering a empty instance with nothing in it).

I am not one to go into too much detail (I believe designers can do a lot better than me), but here is my 2 cents.

1) GVG – Guild halls need this (it is guild wars after all), but I believe that it shouldn’t be just capture points or zerg fests. Think back to gw1 and how there was the main fight, split teams, and objectives; expand on those ideas.

2) Like others I think that it would be a bad idea to put too many merchants into the guild hall. Maybe limit it to just a normal merchant, and a guild bank (after all the guild should be able to access its own bank). You could also put in a guild merchant that makes fun items to play around with in the guild hall. You don’t want to take people away from the open world.

3) Player housing – A doorway that leads to a instanced player house area; where players can customise it to their likeing and has the upgrades from their home instance. I think player housing needs its own CDI (my bad if there already is one).

I also had this problem, but after a few trys I got past it, but then after accepting the purchase it hasnt given me my gems yet, and I did it twice. I thought the first time was a error my side, but it seems you have charged me both times and no gems yet, usally they pop into your account right away.

I think this is a bad change, and I bet you guys will too once you reach the limits (I am not there yet, but I think I am close. I am not on my main computer at the moment).

I say this because if you care about the achivement chests your ability to earn them once you reach the limit is decreased. At the moment I earn enough daily points to get another achivement chest every month and a half (if you only did ~5 a day it would be ~3 months), and I like those hellfire skins. I will max out the daily and monthly long before I get all the pieces

Aside from temporary metas (i.e. Living Story, SAB, etc), all accounts have a finite amount of AP that they can get. If you max your Daily/Monthly, work on something else. Cultural armors give a lot of AP and a unique title. Slayer AP takes time, but also gives a lot. Weapon type kills give AP. Grind out 100k drinks for AP. WvW, SPvP, etc. There’s a lot of ways to get AP.

Just so you know, a lot of the ones you just listed I already have (I have done most of the pve ones, minus giant slayer). WvW achievements (the normal ones) have crazy large numbers I bet most people will never finish them (a million yaks killed, no thanks), and PvP ones I am already working on. So that isn’t going to help me get more achivement chests.

So again all this is doing is slowing down people from getting achivement chests. I dont know why people care about the leaderboards; I am in the top 400 and it doesnt matter.

As an AP hunter, this is a horrible change. I wont be able to play the content that I want. Strange, never once did I think that the AP panel demanded anything t all.

I disagree completely. As an AP hunter, this is a wonderful change. I’ll now be able to dabble in aspects of the game like PvP and other stuff like experimenting with builds and spending more time on alts – which in turn will keep my interest up in this game. Especially long-term.

As an AP hunter I am overwhelmed with happiness by this change.

As a AP hunter I am saddened by this change, since it will now take longer to get all the hellfire skins. Once I reach the cap I will no longer get a extra achievement chest every month and a half from just the daily points.

You mean minus the extra window and clicks it takes to convert gold to gems? I guess they could just have a vendor that used the current exchange rate for gems, converted it to gold for you, and then let you buy it in game at a vendor.

That’s one rude response. The idea to have a normal pick in game that could also get sprockets that people could buy for cheap (e.g. a pick like the mithril pick, etc) is a perfectly fine idea, because then the extra part of the watchwork pick would be available in game for normal currenty, and the watchwork pick would be like the other everlasting items offering convenience.

You didn’t have to get rude with a sarcastic response.

One solution they could provide is to start selling temporary picks with the same ability in-game. That would make this whole situation better and would mean these picks won’t offer anything not available in the game.

Consumables Nerf

The fact that most of these items ever existed is just blatantly a bug. The decision to throw cooldowns on them were for server performance/stability as the patch notes said, not for balance. Period. This was something that was long overdue.

Think of it this way: Between the embers and whistle, those items were effectively doubling/tripling the amount of players active in a map.

As for the Charrzooka, I’m not sure what the reasoning behind that change was. That wasn’t part of the change to summons, or at least that I’m aware of.

Personally, i feel your being somewhat petty. I can think of all kinds of armor pieces in game that I would love with the right effects, that I have no interest in the appearance other wise.

I agree with you coglin. I like the Flamekiss armor it was awsome, so I got out my credit card and got it for my sylvari. There are many other armors that would look good with effects added to them. As for the normal human T3 it is meh to me; if I wanted it I would of gotten it for my human, but it doesn’t look good to me. And now my flamekiss armor is getting taken away from me because of a few whiners on the forums.

Only the fact that it was gem store armor or its price wasn’t a big deal… cultural armors are supposed to be race exclusive and the skin changed that.

I want upgrades and options in terms of cultural armor but not in the form you describe… this game already has way to few flavor options when it comes to races I don’t want that to be made irrelevant.

If they were to do what you suggest that would only cause people go on the internet and demand karma and/or gold refunds in game for their cultural armor purchases. You are essentially asking them to remove a system from the game.

Except what I am saying is that this merchant would only have upgraded versions. The races would still have there own basic versions to stand out with if they like.

To me the human T3 armor is boring and I didn’t care for it, but with these flames added to it it now looks good. I am pretty angry that they put something into the game that I then went and bought gems for only to have them remove it and tell me that too bad we are going to replace the skin with a different one. I am pretty sure that there is many other players also kitten ed off about this; the ones I know who also got the flamekissed skin are angry. I didn’t even know it was the human T3 armor until it was removed.

A solution to this problem would be to add a new merchant into the game that sells cross fraction cultural armor that has been upgraded like the light flamekiss armor. (edit: added this line) The races would still have there own current versions to stand out with, but all races could buy this new armor (and to a lot of us the flamekissed does look completely different from human T3).
To make it fair make the pieces cost more than the T3 stuff (to satisfy the people that complained about their hard work to farm the gold needed for T3). And yay another gold sink in the game.

End result, the work of the people that made it wont go to waste.
Those of us that like the fire look of this armor can still get it on our toons (I think it looks the best on Sylvari, my necro Sylvari is awsome in this armor, and yes I will most likely be asking for my money back when it gets changed)
And in the future more upgraded cultural armor could be added (making people that want ones from other races able to get them)

I beleive the point that people are trying to make is that this is the frist rune that can be fully utilized by all classes, but one. I’ll give you conjured weapons. But, have you ever seen anyone fight with a banner, or any environmental weapons?

And frankly speaking, the rune doesn’t just leave engis out, for example, on a Mesmer, if you’re gonna run a sigil build, prepare to be utterly useless.

Like I said I really dont care about the rune, I was just trying to explain that this is the only rune that can be used by all but one class.

My Hammer skills Idea for engi's

My only idea, which would be awesome.

Rocket boosted hammer

Spin your rocket enhanced hammer around, dealing X dmg to all enemies 6 hits in total. Whirl finisher

We are on the same page my friend.

This is a idea I have had in my head for a while but never written down. I am not good at naming stuff, so rename them if you want.

Skill one
Basic hammer attacks, maybe have the 3rd one have a 20% chance for a burning for something.

Skill two: Rocket twirl
Spin around in cirlces with the power of rockets hitting targets close to you, and reflecting projectiles.

Skill three: Rocket smash
Smash the hammer into the ground with the power of rockets, launching (blowout?) foes.
Blast finisher

Skill four: Rocketeer
Propel forward with rockets attached to the hammer, stuning your target.

Skill five: Coolant release
Make a water field at your location, and heal a condition.

A little over powered, but it doesn’t matter since anet most likely has their own plans for the hammer already. Now picture those hammer skills with Rocket Boot, Utility Goggles, Tool Kit, and the defencive traits like Protection Injection, Stabilized Armor, etc and you have a rocket themed build for melee.

What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?

One idea I can think of to make people go out and play events around the world is to add item reward to events based on how long ago the event last had a success. The longer a event hasn’t been completed successfully the better the rewards get. People would most likely start going into zones to find events that havent been done in a while, and they might also start guesting onto lower pop servers for the same reason; making the worlds seems more alive. As a added bonus you could make skins that you can only get from events that happen in certain areas.
On a down side to this, you would have to disable this reward idea in overflows to prevent exploitation.

Or would simply having (using the TV analogy) something like TiVo that allows you to see the story you missed balance out this issue?

Yes please. It would be great if you guys could come up with a way for people to get “The story so far” and also tie in a way to replay cutscenes, cinematics, and instances that have happened in the past. There a many different ways you could do this from the Scrying Pool in the hall of monuments, to the book tech that I remember reading somewhere that you wanted to get into the game but run out of time, or even as simple cinematics that are just images with voice overs. You guys have stated that there is many limits to how you can do this from text character limits, costs, development time, etc, but you know we are most likely going to keep annoying you with this until it happens. Adding this in would mean that content that was temporary which you guys put so much hard work into making would now be counted as permanent content (minus some of the rewards that should be time gated for when it was new).

Might as well put my opinion on other things while I am here.

Release time frame:
While I get all the achievements quickly, and finish all that temp content, I know people that don’t manage to get it done in time for one reason or another. It would be nice if you slowed the down the release from the current 2 weeks to a 3 week system. I can’t remember where I read it but I remember reading that you guys changed to 2 week system based on the stats that most people finished the content in that time frame, and that seems a little bit flawed; you should always make sure there is a buffer, and that is why I think 3 weeks is a better time frame. (sorry if I seemed a little rude there)

Living story skins:
Would be nice if you guys moved the skins to the summary window that has other achivement skins. They tend to take up space if you don’t have any plans for them yet.

Regarding GW1 lore in Living World and beyond, let’s just say we’re looking at all GW lore right now and picking out threads that we’d like to tie up. Ideas are welcome, as always.

Here is some of my ideas:

1) Player bounties – on each map the person on each side that has been alive the longest (min 1 hour) gets a bounty symbol over their head (that their server cant see). Killing that player rewards more world xp than other people, and resets the bounty to the a the next longest lived person.

2) NPC attacking – if the (currently) winning server holds a bloodlust, npc groups will start attacking their stuff. The more bloodlust they have the harder the npc groups become. This will make the winner server think twice about taking bloodlust: Do they want to split their forces to combat the npcs taking their towers/keeps/camps, or do they want to fight a buffed losing servers. The npcs will also make it interesting when the other servers might not be able to field many players.

Right after you reflect his projectile, immediately start running in the opposite direction from him in a wide circle. Keep doing so until you hear him stop making that sound that he makes when he rushes at you.

That to me is a silly tactic and not intended. The fact that you have to rely purely on the reflect damage to kill him in that phase when doing that is so annoying. I ended up just spamming attacks while he smacked me around because atleast I could get the occasional hit in while he was trolling and therefore speed up the kill a bit. You would think dodging through him or using whip would be a good way to save yourself in that phase, but nope.

Just putting down my honest opinion that those 2 fights are poorly designed and just there to be annoying imo. The dragon part of the storm wizard was fine though and king toad is also fine. I expected increased difficulty, not increased annoyance.

Or you can be up close (when he is low enough for the charging attack) when you reflect and then whip him right away, hit him, whip him, hit him; until he goes back to firing stuff at you. That way he never charges you.

Edit removed the ‘etc’ because it was just before the ‘until’ and the forum would kitten the two words :S

During the karka event you could get other toons of yours to be invited to overflows where it was still going on or just finished to open the chest again. Thus he must of opened it about 6 times

Here is my count, I also put one weapon into pvp and have some green weapons on other toons. Looks like I should be able to get one more yellow skin before it is gone.

The owls have impaled these poor clouds on flagpoles and in order to free them you have to give them balloons. Be warned though, some clouds might attack you thinking you are a owl; they arn’t what they seem I hear.

(but really those flagpoles are checkpoints)

Jump through the log on the left side to avoid the wallspikes. Move forward a bit (about to where the bauble is) and then stick to the right side until you reach the hole in the side. Move through the hole and from there, jump to the flower below the end of the log.

Next, turn around and look at the wall. You should see a spot where you can make a few jumps to climb up to the part with the large log. From there, continue as normal.

Interesting, I will have to try that way tomorrow. I have been doing a jump from where he is in that picture to a tiny ledge sticking out of that hollow log on its right side, then a jump up to the top of the log.

I feel bad about making this topic now after reading Joshs blog post. I was just very frustrated at the time when I wrote it. Don’t bring back the damage if it gets more people to play.

Keep up the great work Josh; your work is awesome, and when I finish it I always feel a lot of pride from being able to complete it (I will never forget how happy I was when I finished the mad king clocktower). SAB TM has been great and has given me a week with a ton of enjoyment (it is best with other people in the party to laugh at/with). I think most people would agree that your form posts have been great, and the way you explained the design philosophies behind Tribulation mode was a good read.

You can jump out of the rapids and in trib mode I use this after the rafting part to get to other side. You can use it to your advantage, I would not recommend them to instant kill, that would make it a lot harder.

I know you can jump out, but have you tried to do that with a bad ping, the server will make you go all over the place. I am guessing you didn’t read this bit “due to jumps and dodges not registering with the server at the right time”

Some of us have bad latency (a good ping for me in guild wars 1 was 250, my average was 300-400 range, I am going to guess my ping is the same in guild wars 2), so once I end up in the water I tend to stay there for a long, long, long time due to jumps and dodges not registering with the server at the right time, and at times I will just give up and restart the level since it is faster. It would be nicer if I could just die and go back to the checkpoint.

I didn’t mind how the levels were before you made they easier; I could still make those jumps with the right timing even with a bad ping, but now if I make one mistake and fall into the rapids it is usally faster for me to restart the level.

So please make the rapids do damage again. As I write this I am waiting for my toon to be pushed down the down the river to die, she is still not there yet.

Woot me and 3 others finished world 2 zone 3. Add another 4 people to the count of people with storm weapons.

And yes I know my graphics are turned all the way down I need to upgrade my computer.

Grats! I ran them all solo, you guys must have a lot of patience/time

Took us two and a half hours for zone 3. Would of done it the other day but people got d/c.
We did the other two zones the day before they made them easier; both of them took about 3 hours each. Haven’t tryed them since they made it easier.
It might take longer with other people, but much more fun with people to talk to/laugh at.

Ascended Weapons and kits

One way they could do this is to make the kit damage based off the highest rarity weapon you have equipped when using the kit. So if you have only common weapons on your base damage will be low on the kits, but if you have a common and a ascended the kit damage will have ascended stats.

But my money is on anet forgetting about kits altogether.

I think the title needs to be changed, since all 13 maps have happened it is misleading people into thinking that it can’t be done.

As for the randomness, until more data is gathered I am under the belief that they have a system in place to make sure each map is done at least once a day.
As Murth.5637 pointed out above all 13 have been done within a 24 hour peroid.

But here is a question for you; what makes you think there is only one Scarlet? It would stand to reason that there would be two would it not? Other worlds, portals, and whatnot.

Correct me if I’m wrong but followers are people that have you added to thier friend list who you don’t have in your friends list. So I don’t think anet is going to let you edit other peoples friends lists. Currently your options are: keep them blocked, message the person asking them to removed you from thier friends list, or just ignore the follower list.

I suppose one option that they might be able to do is give you the option to hide them in the list you see by storing a list of people you want hidden on your computer then just hiding them locally (I don’t think they would want to waste server space after all), but the follower will still be able see when you are logged in etc
