First, change your password for the game, and for the e-mail account linked to it. Both may have been compromised. Turn on either the authenticator or e-mail authentication for your GW2 account.

Then, try responding to your original ticket. Let them know additional items have gone missing, and that you suspect your account has been hacked. Ask them to investigate a possible hack of the account. If you can no longer update the original ticket, open a new one and reference the number of the previous one.

You won’t be banned just for sending things and gold through the mail between 2 accounts.

@Michael—things and money in accounts can be rolled back. Right now, things and money in guilds cannot. (It’s nice to have this available even if you’re very careful with security of your account.) Also, if you do a server transfer, your character’s stuff transfers, but guild stuff does not. Since mail works just fine, I lean toward using it instead of a guild bank to move things from character to character in the same guild.

@Kifer: If you no longer have the serial code, open the ticket without it. Support will need to validate that you are the true account owner, so they will follow up with questions for you through e-mail.

(You would have received the serial code through e-mail since you bought the game online. You needed the code to create your account.)

All bold text is from September 21, 2012, https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/mike-obrien-on-account-security/
. . .

That link addresses your concern. This isn’t “new”. It was published back in September:

“Password Blacklisting

Since we’ve been observing hackers constantly scanning accounts that don’t even exist yet, waiting for someone to create those accounts, we obviously want to make sure that if those new customers do join the game, they don’t use the password that the hackers are waiting for. Thus we’re building a blacklist of all the passwords that hackers are scanning for — it’s already at 20 million passwords and growing — and we’re preventing new customers from choosing any of those passwords. (The blacklist contains passwords only, not account names.)

This system has substantially eliminated hackers’ ability to steal new accounts, as all new accounts now cannot possibly match what the hackers have been scanning for. The rate of account hacking was about 1.5% for accounts created before this blacklist was in place, and is about 0.1% for accounts created after.

Because this has been so successful at protecting new accounts, we want to extend it to protect existing accounts too. But it’s harder for us to know whether passwords of existing accounts are known to hackers: it’s difficult to distinguish between a login attempt by the real customer and a login attempt by a hacker. So we’ll take the safe approach and ask all existing customers to change their passwords, and blacklist everyone’s old password in the process.

. . .In the coming weeks we’ll ramp up this call for players to change their passwords, and may require a password change for those users who haven’t already voluntarily changed their passwords." (September 21, 2012)

If she hasn’t done so already, she should go back through her e-mail to see if she can find the serial key. Since she bought the download from ArenaNet, she would have gotten an e-mail with this information. She needed it to create the account, as Michael mentioned.

But this is not really about needing a serial key—this is about Customer Support misunderstanding the request and therefore giving you an answer that isn’t useful at all. I don’t know what to recommend as key words to use to respond to the ticket. I would respond to the ticket and try to make it clear that the agent:
- did not understand the problem
- gave a response that did not help me at all
- and then restate what the problem is as simply and clearly as possible

It depends on what is meant by “multi-boxing”. It is not ok to use anything 3rd-party that gets you an advantage. If you have 2 computers, each with its own mouse, each with its own keyboard, and you are playing on 2 separate accounts with no “botting” software or macros, etc., then you can play them both simultaneously.

Incorrect, you can play them one at a time. If you alone are using any method to attack a target at the same time with both accounts, you’re in violation.

Both accounts can be online, but your hands play one account or the other.

You are stating something different than what has already been posted directly by ANet CS in the forums. Without some reference or source on your part, I’m going with what ANet said.

Being in party, useless?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jinx.7945

Jinx.7945

You can easily see your party member’s hp. You can see their location on the map. You can see waypoints set on the map by party members. You can ping/draw on the map for your party to see. You get access to party chat, which is in a rather pretty blue. You can more easily see the location of a party member whilst in a zerg situation due to the bluification of their name.
[….]

The above captured my thoughts as well.

And I love that there are no strategic benefits to be in a group. I can strategize with anybody in the open world—no need to go through an artificial grouping mechanic to do it. I can chat with anybody, do combos with anybody, share kills with anybody and everyone still gets loot. This is something ArenaNet got right.

If you don’t like the no-strategy zerg, don’t do no-strategy zergs. It’s not the lack of an artificial grouping mechanic that creates them. It’s the lack of need for strategy that creates them. The fix is to add the need for strategy, not to add the need to type /join.

Guesting is Coming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jinx.7945

Jinx.7945

@cesmode (OP): I agree that guesting will likely result in PVEers aggregating on certain servers to participate in fuller zones. I see this as a positive, not a negative. If nobody is in Orr on my home server, I’ll just go guest on a more populated world. The fact that other players are doing this, too, means a livelier zone for us all. The mitigating factor will be if a zone becomes too populated on a world, it will start folks in less populated overflow zones.

To other speculation in the thread:

- The point is not to make us buy gems to transfer. Guesting is free. There is no reason to transfer to get to the populated zones, just use the free guesting feature. There are no gems needed for this.

- Quoting AreaNet: “You still get influence for your home world guild when you are guesting.”: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guesting-is-Coming/1227596

- While guesting is billed as a way to “play with friends”, my impression is that they mean the normal English interpretation of “friend”, not the specific GW2 in-game list of “friends”. When you guest, you “click the ‘World Selection’ button [and] choose a world you would like to guest on and select the ‘Guest’ button.” (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guesting-is-coming/) The restriction list doesn’t mention needing a name in your “friend” list with a server as their home world in order to pick it. Why would they bother coding up that kind of a check? We’d just exchange names, anyway, no big deal.

I saw and thought the same thing. You can get a brand new computer, install the game “from scratch” and when you log into your account, there are all your existing characters on your existing server. I don’t think uninstalling and installing again will do anything at all. The server doesn’t care whether or not you have a freshly installed client.

Unfortunately, the mod also locked the other thread, so there’s no good way to question it in the thread where it is stated…

full servers

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Jinx.7945

Jinx.7945

The experience of the GW2 community is that if you keep trying to join a world at different times of the day and on different days, you will eventually find the right window and get in.

Servers getting full is a fact of life in this type of environment. It is a constraint that results from the underlying technology used. If an unlimited number of players can join the server, it will cause problems. The most obvious issue would be slow responses from the game for everyone playing. Overflow servers alleviate this, but then you’re not really on your server anymore. So that has an impact to players, too. They have to draw a population line somewhere or all players on the server would suffer.

Guild moves are complicated. If it was already in place, then allowing whole guilds to freely move from server to server would have caused more WvW problems than already exist. There are broad negative implications to generally allowing this. It would help your wife, but hurt lots of others’ game experience. Frankly, there is also plenty of other functionality and bug fixes that would take priority over implementing it even if ArenaNet thought that it was a good idea to let guilds move intact with no impact.

Trying to join a server at different times and different days works. It’s really the simplest solution.

Edited to add: It looks like this has become a bigger problem, especially on specific servers. Responses are consolidating in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Server-Transfer-Concerns-merged. The suggestion in the thread to add a queue sounds reasonable.

Transfers not Free any longer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Jinx.7945

Jinx.7945

1. ArenaNet has always been clear that server transfers were free for a limited time only.
2. Your home server determines your home guild, but other than that, guesting is just like playing on the other server for PvE. You don’t need to have a friend on a server in order to guest there.
3. Paying for transfers fixes concerns about no-consequence server hopping for WvW. Free guesting lets you play with whoever you want for PvE (except for the constraint about staying in-region).

I’m curious about your definition of botting, if you wouldn’t call it that. What would you consider a bot? (not trying to be argumentative, honestly curious, but words are not my friends this evening)

Botting to me means something 3rd party is used, something outside of the game itself. If you’re using the game and nothing else in order to do something beyond what was intended, it’s an exploit.

Question about engineers

in Engineer

Posted by: Jinx.7945

Jinx.7945

This doesn’t use a third-party product or software. It may use an exploit if you find a place to put the turret where it can attack without being attacked. This is not intended; if the turret can do damage to the enemy, then the enemy should be able to do damage to the turret. If the enemy can damage the turret, the turret will be destroyed; turrets aren’t that durable.

Edited to add: So, the way that I understand it, engineers planting a turret is not botting. An engineer planting a turret where it can do damage but cannot be damaged in return may be considered an exploit.

There’s an assumption in your post that planting a turret and walking away is going to kill things. A turret alone doesn’t do much damage. Further, it doesn’t regain health automatically once outside of battle. Even if it survives one fight (which I think is unlikely without some sort of exploit), it starts the next battle down on health. It’s not going to sit there killing things without player intervention or assistance. It’s going to be destroyed.

Make sure you provide a valid e-mail address for your Support account, and check your spam/junk e-mail boxes in case Support e-mail are being filtered there.

Note that they will ask you for your serial code. They understandably need you to be able to show you’re the account owner. If you bought a retail box game, the serial number should be in the box. If you bought a digital version, it will be in an e-mail. You needed this code to create your account, so you definitely had it at that time.

All of your characters will be on the same home world. You can’t create different characters on different worlds. There is talk of a guesting feature that would let you play with folks on other worlds, but that is not implemented, yet.

You can move all of your characters from one home world to another as applekwisp pointed out above. So, you can go ahead and choose a world to start playing on now, and then move to your friend’s world later.

If your friend’s world shows up as “full”, just keep re-trying at different times of the day.
