Having the same experience myself. Can get the boss health down so low I think “One more hit should do it…” and I make one stupid mistake, find myself needing a rez and see four companions standing around doing nothing while I cry feebly for help. I hit mist form to try and get to the edge of the circle, hoping I can rez myself while the boss continues to pound the centre of the ring and see his health bar shooting back up to full. By the time I’m on my feet again I have to do the whole thing from scratch.
Either this should be a solo fight and my character should be the only one in the ring, or the companions should do what they have done throughout the story so far – contribute DPS and rez when needed.
Needs fixing asap.
EDIT. Switched to staff, stood in the same spot on entering the circle, and autoattacked him to death, spamming Lava Font when available. Had to heal two or three times when the green vine attack came close enough, but otherwise no issues at all. The companions still didn’t do anything though.
This cannot be working as intended!

It’s what you make it. I find you can always find something to do to pass the time.

There is nothing in it for me, so I’m waiting to see what happens when it’s releases. Plenty to occupy me in GW2 and elsewhere until then.
Whenever “then” is.
For me, it is fairly simple. I’ve quit this game and come back several times. I’ve deleted my main and remade it many times. When I come back each time and when I remake my main each time, it is always an Elementalist. I get bored by other classes (and I haven’t begun to master any other). Elementalist is challenging and fun.
My New Years resolution is to get one of each class to level 80, something which I haven’t done before – and I’ve been playing since Launch -3. I’m struggling with it because I have been devoting all my time to Elementalist, a class which I have had at 80 on three occasions previously.
I am an Elementalist. Give it a go – you may find you are one too!
Thanks for the comments. As this is my wife treating herself to a new PC, and not specifically for gaming, I don’t have any input into the spec- It’s mainly for work. By the sounds of things that’s what it will be used for.
That’s what I was thinking, Dimos – thanks for the information.
My wife is treating herself to a new PC. I am concerned that it will outperform my modest PC and am therefore considering appropriating it for my own nefarious purposes, namely running GW2.
Any thoughts on how this might perform?
i7-4790S processor
8 GB RAM
2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 720
1TB Hardrive
My current PC can run on medium settings without too much hassle but anything goes on high and you are looking at 20 FPS maximum in open world content and virtually unplayable WVWVW.
So, should I pinch hers?
D/D Ele is still my first choice for messing around in open world and has been since launch. Once you get used to switching between elements and timing dodges etc it’s quite an enjoyable play style IMO, although very unforgiving st first!
The warm glow of satisfaction in helping out a fallen comrade is the only reward I need.
A “TY” doesn’t hurt either…
It’s enjoyable, reasonably mindless leveling. As someone who is more or less 100% PVE nowadays I can appreciate EOTM in that it provides an opportunity to try something similar to WvWvW as a sort of introduction.
But, it’s not proper WvWvW. Not really.
Nice map, though.

In answer to the OP, yes.
It’s still a really good game. Not as well populated as it used to be but you can do the whole shebang solo if you need to. You’ll need to commit a fair amount of time to it if you are going for the HOM if you are starting from scratch, but I’d say it is still doable.
Whenever I get the urge to play another class for awhile, I always come back to my Elementalist. Usually within a day or two.
Much shorter loading times for me and slightly improved in game performance on higher settings. Jonny is happy.
I haven’t done this much, but I have done my quickest runs with a Guardian – as above, staff with bloodlust and runed for power is very effective. My best is 23 minutes but usually around the 24 – 26 minute mark.
I wouldn’t know. Still stuck at 99% with a handful of POI to ding in Eternal Battlegrounds. If I do decide to redo this on another character, I’ll be doing WvWvW first…
@Jeknar Ah, OK. Yes, that’s very annoying. It’s also usually my queue to leg it!
Why would you not want to see names in WvW? Knowing where the other guys are is paramount when killing them/not letting them kill you, isn’kitten
41 and very much enjoying this thread. GG
Elementalist is a lot of fun. I have both a human female and an asura male and they dominate my game time. Do it.
Are you still here?
Seriously. Go on, do it!
Try it and see if you like it. If you paid for it, why wouldn’t you at least download it and play it once? In my opinion, it is very good.
Elementalist is a lot of fun to play. Quite a challenge until you get the hang of it, but loads of fun. Welcome aboard and have fun!
Salvaged Final Rest, thinking it was a low level staff.
Deleted a character with all my gold in inventory in the pre-wallet days.
Same character was also wearing my Wizard Hat as town clothes.
Need to pay attention!
Not sure about hours logged but been playing most evenings since launch with no significant break and I have one level 80, no map completion (70%) no legendary and about 4 gold.
I consider myself to be fairly normal.
I’m still enjoying it, so YES.
Name: Jonny
Main Character: Cyrona
Current Region/Server: (EU) Gunnar’s Hold
Interested Activities or specific things you want to help with: PVE, just getting into WvWvW, working towards world completion on my main.
Addition comments: I am the consumate casual gamer, so while not full of sage advice nor brimming with wisdom to pass along to noobs and newbies alike, I am usually prepared to drop everything to help smash something up at short notice. Can’t do TS, just can’t…
Active: Most evenings Greenwich Mean.
Do you want to be a member of Legion Of Honour? Maybe. My current Guild has collapsed due to chronic non participation, leaving me in charge. I may decide to recruit so 100% repping might be difficult.
Are you happy for people to contact you directly (whisper/PM)? Most assuredly. Anytime.
I do this. Only one level 80 (Elementalist). I make and remake the others all the time.
Sadly, I believe there is no cure available to current medicine…
I have enough trouble keeping my RL wife happy most of the time. Not convinced I’d fair any better with a Tyrian spouse.
It would be a no from me.
It’s purely subjective, but here’s my take on it.
I think the “permanent” items like character slots, bag spaces, bank slots etc are reasonably priced.
I think the armour skins are a little expensive, mainly because they are one shots and require transmutation crystals to reuse. IMO if they made them available for reuse in the same way that the AP skins are, as Demented Sheep says above, they’d be bang on.
Hmm.
I like Dragons. I want more Dragons. But, I enjoyed the decidedly Dragon Free sidetrip through the Living Story.
I’m basically a reasonably happy camper.
I’ve also been on Gunnar’s Hold since Betas – “pretty cool and relaxed community” sums it up beautifully.
Well, if it doesn’t work out for you, you can always switch for a fee. Seriously, there is no wrong choice here. The two you have chosen to begin with will produce some stuff you can use.
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

The way I see it, this should be looked at as a an extended trial run. They obviously love the idea of the Living Story and are determined to expand the game in this way rather than selling expansion packs. Personally, I agree with this. I feel I am more than getting my money’s worth out of my initial investment plus the modest amount of gems I have purchased since launch.
So, there is a common enough theme running through this thread that some parts of the Living Story execution could have been handled in a much better way. Season One has, for me, shown that they are going the right way in terms of the concept for the Living World, but they need to learn from what didn’t go so well in order to produce high quality, polished content updates on a regular basis.
I for one, would have been happy with less regular updates if there was a corresponding improvement in quality control in the lead up to each one. Perhaps a monthly update rather than fortnightly, and maybe – where lore appropriate – last month’s content sticks around for a little while when the new content hits (maybe a week or two of overlap) so even the most casual of players gets the chance to play the stuffing out of it before its gone forever.
Whatever they have learned from it, I think it was a success. Yes, there were problems with bugs, the content was not always of a universally high standard, but they have proven to me that they can take a relatively high concept approach to expanding Guild Wars 2 and make it work.
In Season 2, I think it will evolve into something that is much closer to what the majority of players really wanted to see. I hope so, anyway.
Ha!
Went away for 24 hours and just came back and had another go.
Nailed it first time with no change in methodology. Either something changed overnight or there is a huge element of luck involved.
I seem to be experiencing the same problem that Thighum is. I am using an Elementalist and mist form helps up to a point, but then I’m randomly knocked back and interrupted without any warning.
I feel like I’m getting closer every time, but it would make things much less frustrating if I could skip the cut scene on retries. I enjoyed it once, but now…
1 level 80 Elementalist
12 character slots
It’s a bit hit and miss on Gunnar’s Hold. It seems to depend on one or two specific commanders being present and hectoring the rest of us into civilian saving action. There are usually enough people around, but mostly zerging the miasma events and/or rubble running. I think we’ve hit 1,200 half a dozen times while I’ve been playing.
My Elementalist is my only Level 80. I mess around with the other characters, but this is where I commit virtually all of my game time.
My main is a Human Female Elementalist. All my alts are male, but my GW1 main was a human female and I wanted to reuse the name. I am happy with this choice.
If I was forced to change race, I’d make a Male Asura. This is based purely on the way Wooden Potatoes’ Asura spins its daggers.
So far, I’ve bought the game (not deluxe), fully tabbed out my bank, invested in an additional seven character slots and the full compliment of bag slots for my main character only. Other than that, one or two minor cosmetic items to use up a few stray gems. I haven’t added it up, but it’s probably around about the same as I would have paid for a subscription MMO in the same period, perhaps a little more. I’m cool with that.
I think they both work well – easily 8/10.
My Engineer is known as Preceptor Kiff.
It still works. I transferred starter helmet and pauldrons to my Guardian the other day.
It warns that the item will be soulbound, but when the transmutation is complete, it becomes account bound.
I’d be happy for Combo Killer to come back. My frustration with this particular daily comes not from having to perform combos or work with other players to do so, but with the games inability to recognise when we’d achieved it.
I was stuck on 4/10 (which hopefully indicates that I at least understood what was required) and still performing legitimate combo kills in the same manner without receiving credit for it. More frustatingly, my team mates appeared to be registering progress on the daily without apparently doing anything, while being part of the same zerg.
That they have taken this daily out of circulation (as it wasn’t working “as intended”) suggests to me that there was a problem with the mechanics rather than the skill of the player base (in most cases).
Looking forward to more daily action and hopefully obtaining my first Laurel later today!
Combo Daily would be fine if credit was actually awarded. Stuck to a roaming group that was clearly trying to complete this task – combo fields everywhere and finishers going off all over the place. Credit seemed to be awarded randomly, despite seeing all the combo animations and messages as we killed stuff.
Stuck on 4/10 for ages before all the DCs and then logged in again to discover a new set of dailies for which I have no completion at all. Hmmph.
Why not? It’s still a cracking game, albeit rather dated now.
GW1 is reasonably inexpensive to obtain (including all campaigns) if you haven’t got it already and as neither game commands a subscription fee all you have to lose is time. =}
Heck, I only have 16/50 on my GW1 main – I might even join you!
For me, it’s still early days. I haven’t seen a lot of what this game has to offer. I have never played WOW so only have an abstract concept of what constitutes a “raid” or “endgame”. I’m a casual gamer (although I feel I’ve put more hours – and intensive ones – into this game than any for a long time).
As GW2 requires an initial financial investment and no subscription fee, it’s easy enough to stop playing when you get bored, without feeling that you wasted your money. I don’t feel anywhere near that point at present, and there is still the prospect of free content updates and further expansions to come in the future.
Have you already maxed out yourslots? You get 3 more for 800 gems iirc, or 1200 tops so it’s not gonna cost you much
It was 800 gems each when I bought mine – are they available for the same price in packs of three now? ’cos that would be a very good deal.
I am already level 80 with a full set of 42k armor.
That, to me, would prevent character deletion for any reason. I’d rather buy another character slot.
