No more guesting for events

What about the people that are on servers that can’t do it/don’t have enough people? Should they just not be able to do the content. I do think people on a server should have priority over those not on the server when it comes to a queue, but to do away with guesting wouldn’t solve the problem and would just cause more upset people.

How Tequatl and BG have ruined my gaming exp

To be fair, it doesn’t even matter that my server can down Teq. I can’t even get onto the main TC Sparkfly Fen most of the time to do it. As annoying as not being able to get in, that is one of the plus sides of guesting for people on a smaller server.

But with that said, I can understand being frustrated with the lack of people to do the event. I haven’t been happier since transferring to TC from Kaineng a few weeks ago. I went from never seeing anyone on maps to running across people everywhere. I can do WvsW at any time during the day and have people beside me, instead of hardly having enough during prime time on Kaineng. Transferring to TC was one of the best decisions I’ve made in game, so if you’re that frustrated it couldn’t hurt to transfer somewhere else.

Are all MMO forums like this?

People don’t often harp on about how great a game is on a forum, its very likely they like it for the same reason the devs expect them to like it for, or just a general consensus among the crowd.

Complaints however, are different. Everyone will think their complaint is slightly more unique than someone elses’ even if they are under the same ‘problem’.

Therefore, there are like 10 complaints vs 1 praise on forums.

Exactly this. People aren’t very quick to praise, but they are incredibly quick to complain about something they don’t like so you do tend to see much more complaining.

I don’t frequent this place very often, but from what I have seen this one is much better than other MMOs I’ve been apart of.

Age of GW2 Players

I’m 24 and I love this game. My old guild leader from WoW is 30-something and he hated it. Granted, he didn’t play it for very long but he was telling me about all the things he didn’t like, which ended up being most of the points I did. Go figure, haha.

This is also the first MMO I was able to get my sister to really enjoy, and she’s 20. She saw me playing it and she had bought it a week or so later and is loving it.

I have noticed that more people around my age or a little older in this game compared to say WoW. My guild in WoW was all older than me and are still going strong, but the random people I would meet seemed to be mostly younger.

In my opinion, the game lacks longevity

GW2 is a different endgame than say, WoW. You don’t have to grind out the gear and have a defined set of progression that you get there in arena seasons or raid tiers. (And sorry for using WoW as an example but it is just the only other MMO I have a large amount of experience playing.) There is tons of stuff to do at level 80, but not everyone is going to want/enjoy doing all of those things.

I personally love WvsW, at least in even matches and it it one of the main reasons I enjoy this game as much as I do. I dislike completely dominating other servers and I dislike being pushed off the map, but those even matches can be absolutely epic. I don’t need rewards or to win, just give me a good match I’m happy. That’s just me, however. That doesn’t mean everything else will enjoy the same as I do.

The game is what you want it to be, and if you don’t like it, maybe it isn’t the game for you. That isn’t a bad thing, there are plenty of people that dislike the game and plenty of people that absolutely love the game. It is all a matter of preference, and if you want all those things you listed there have to be games out there that provide the type of end-game you’re looking for. You can always take a break for a while too. No sub means you’re not losing any money by not playing for a while and coming back later.

Has Guild Wars 2 been worth your $60.00?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kaia.6859

Kaia.6859

Yes, I definitely feel my $60 was well spent. I see myself playing this game for years to come, since I don’t feel that same need to ALWAYS play like I ever did with WoW or other MMOs. I can easily take time to go play another game and come back and pick up where I left off, or log on every couple nights for some WvsW fun times.

I am a little bored right now, but that’s expected with any game that I’ve played as much as I played GW2 in the first month. It doesn’t mean I hate the game or think it’s awful, it just means that I want to play something else for a while and I like that I don’t feel the need to log in everyday. That is a major plus of this game. There is still tons for me to do, but I’m taking my time to finish it all and I’m not behind the curve if I don’t do it all RIGHT NOW.

The game isn’t perfect, and that’s okay. I’m really looking forward to the future of the game.

What is needed to be fixed in my view WvW

I would like to see position in queue, so I know how long I can alt-tab/do other things. The other things, yes and no. I get tons of EXP as my mesmer alt, and you can’t really make people go certain places on a map so 100 vs 15 will happen. Melee is okay, if you know when to attack in melee but I would argue ranged has the advantage, certaintly.

WvsW has it’s issues, like anything else, and I appreciate what you’re trying to do with the post but how can Anet address these issues is the question.

Win, lose, I just want some epic fights, so I hope to see all of you JQ/Henge people on the battlefield!

I hate how Ruin ruins Eredon Terrace rep… that video was just sad…

Agreed. There are some great players here, but with stuff like this coming out, that gets overshadowed.

What is your level 80 Thief like?

I’ve been messing around with builds over the past couple days in WvsW, and I’m really enjoying 30/30/0/10/0, with a Berserker set on and shortbow and sword/pistol. It gives me nice burst, with just enough survibility if I’m careful.

I’m still trying to decide which heal I like best, since the stealth is so nice but I like the heal on hit of Signet of Malice and shorter cooldown.

Utilities, Signet of Shadows is the only one constantly on there. I want to love Scorpion Wire, but I tend to fail with it. Shadow Refuge is awesome for saving teammates, and I just like the numbers I see with Haste and Pistol Whip. I keep switching things out, so I don’t know what I’m liking best yet.

Dagger Storm is my best friend. I thought I would always use Thieves Guild, nope. I have more fun shadowstepping into a huge group and hitting it.

I do want to try a condition build. How has that been working for people?

I agree to an extent. Back in vanilla WoW, the server I played on had an awesome PvP community on both Alliance and Horde. You got to know who your opponents were from that, and there was an amazing sense of community. It was a common thing to go on the forums and see a “gg” thread, talking about how much fun each side had. The friendly competition was nice, and I even made friends from the opposite faction that way.

I miss that, but for as much good as it could bring, there are always going to be people that trash talk others, and no one enjoys that.

At least guilds can still be seen, so people can have that friendly rivalry between guilds.

Require WvW information about Ranger and Thief

Kaia.6859

I play a thief and really enjoy the class in WvsW. I’ll be honest though, I didn’t at first. I kept trying to just aoe people from the towers I was defending, and that really isn’t where the thief shines.

Then, I messed around with some my traits and skills, and found one I completely love because of the balance between burst and survivability. The thing I love the most is that thieves are so mobile, couple that with awesome burst I can get into the middle of a group, (hopefully steal from a warrior) and have 2 whirlwinds to send people off in all directions and still make it out alive most of the time. It is amazing for scattering incoming zergs or pushing into enemy territory.

The speed thieves have is amazing too, between the movement speed signet and shortbow. I tend to use it to flank around groups and see if I can wreck some havoc before I need to run away, which doesn’t always work out for me but it is fun. The speed also helps in getting to points that need back-up quicker.

I haven’t taken my ranger into WvsW yet, so I can’t comment on them much. From what I have seen, they are very powerful in WvsW as well.

Please, can we have an alarm sound if WvWvW queue is ready?

Wow, 8 hours. That sucks the queues are so long. Are you on Henge? I imagine their queues have to suck.

A sound would be nice though, I agree. The queues don’t tend to be too awful here, but I love alt-tabbing so I would appreciate it.

hahaha wow you Eredon Terrace people are p@thetic. You own 90% of the map for 20 hours out of the day and you accuse people of hacking when you can obviously climb up that mountain. Wow I would be ashamed to even be apart of your server.

Aww, not all of us on the server are saying that. I know there are hackers out there, but that doesn’t mean that every siege weapon placed somewhere you might not think is a hacker.

Anyone else feel like WVW is a waste of time?

in WvW

Posted by: Kaia.6859

Kaia.6859

Not at all, I’ve been having a lot of fun in WvsW. I don’t tend to follow the zergs though. Depending on the commander on the map at the time, I may follow the commander icon around but I find it is more fun being in a smaller group and causing chaos at random supply camps/towers. Or seeing how many enemy players I can get to chase me around the map, that never gets old.

I also rather like the design of sPvP as well, where there is no grind for gear in order to compete. I can just go in and be on the same level as everyone else and have to rely on how good I am to get by. I can’t use the “WELL, he he better gear than me!” excuse if I lose, and have to figure out how I can fix what I did wrong.

I do wish we had ended up with Henge/JQ on the first week match-up, but that just means I have something to look forward to next week.

Compiled list of ways to improve Squad Commander

I was surprised that 1, 2, and 3 were not included.

I agree. It was especially surprising to see there is no way to see who else is in the squad, only what squad you are in.

The only point I sort of disagree on is the ability to see everyone on the map. I think it should be an option, but if I’m not the commander I don’t think I really need to see whatever everyone else is doing. That really is just my preference though.

how come nobody wanst to rez downed players in WvW anymore?

People tend to run to res people here, at least from what I’ve noticed. The exceptions are the people that die in the middle of an enemy group or in the middle of a bunch of aoe. I know anytime I teleport close to someone, they start healing almost right away.

Things that make you go -_-

in WvW

Kaia.6859

People just standing in the red zones, and begging for a res when they die over and over. Everyone dies and there is some damage that you can’t avoid, but they put those red circles on the ground for a reason.

People LITERALLY do chase you across the map for a kill. I’m always the one running and I’m just like SERIOUSLY?! Why are 10 people chasing me right now.

LOL, they really do. It is so amusing to run past a group of people, shoot an arrow off, and see how many follow me around. I led a group straight into our huge commander icon group yesterday. I love being a thief.

Is WvWvW for casuals?

in WvW

Posted by: Kaia.6859

Kaia.6859

The two are on such different scales, but I really don’t consider one or the other “casual” or “hardcore.” You can be useful and effective in either, so long as you try to and understand what each requires.

I do agree though, WvsW at the highest tier requires a great deal of time, dedication, and gold to be competitive. sPvP at the highest tier (tournment against equally skilled players) requires all of that except gold. I would argue that sPvP requires more individual skill, whereas WvsW requires good leadership above all. Not to say that people that focus on WvsW aren’t skilled or that it doesn’t require skill, just with that many people all working together it is less about how good of a player you are alone and more about how well you listen to orders as well as how good the leader/s is/are.

-
I guess my point is this. Being casual doesn’t mean being stupid.

I agree with the whole post, but this is the point I agree with the most. Casual tends to be thrown around as an insult. Casual does not mean you’re a bad player. You can’t accomplish much in either sPvP or WvsW alone, and being casual doesn’t mean aren’t able to contribute to your team in either.

Does no one use PP?

I tend to use P/P in WvsW, since I tend to get eaten alive when I get close to anyone. PvE and sPvP I tend to use S/P, but I like the damage and mobility I get with P/P and shortbow in WvsW. I fail at Pistol Whip though, so I’ve been thinking about messing around with P/P in sPvP too.

Please turn off server transfers

in WvW

Kaia.6859

I’m kind of surprised they have kept them open so long. I was expecting them to be closed after about a week.

It would be nice to at least see them place some limitations on transferring to higher population servers, such as having to have a contact on that higher server to tranfer there (so people getting it late can still play with friends). You have servers with long queues, and then you have servers like Kaineng without enough people around, yet people still flock to the higher pop servers. Hopefully the reopening of digital sales will help those out on those low pop servers.

I can’t really comment on the abuse of it though.

Randomly loading in players when near them, this is ruining WVW.

I have noticed this as well the past few days, and it is really annoying. As others have said, it wasn’t happening in the beginning. Half the time, I won’t even see them until I’m dead. I tried turning down my settings to see if that would help, but it was still the same.
