I’m not sure that transferring human gender stereotypes, that are often considered negative
Making things up to enforce your opinion are we?
Unisexing anything is lazy design, period.
I don’t believe this was ever a bug either. The more time that elapses cements my belief that this was done intentionally.
A friend of mine offered up a theory that this was in some way connected to GamerGate. At the time, I thought that seemed a bit conspiratorial. Now I’m not so sure; there could be something to that. But if the anims were removed in response to some push by parties involved with GamerGate (or fear of such an action) then I’d like an answer to these simple questions: What on earth was so offensive about the animations? Why was it determined that the anims needed to go? And WHY LIE ABOUT IT AFTERWARD?
Despite those questions, I’m not interested in a Dev’s response to any of them because I already know what sort of nonsense such a response would probably contain. Much more interested in hearing the thoughts of the player base.
Yes it was intentional. The animations are “too feminine and too sexy” so a certain group of people dedicated to eradicating such things got it shut down. It happens in any game they can sink their teeth into.
I dont understand… if it got disabled for inappropriate animations during specific moments… why is it the female human is the only one that had it disabled… or am I not aware of any others that have been? im not implying others should be, but other races and of both female/male genders have some animations where they seem like they can care less of what the npc/story is talking about soooo why have they not been disabled?
It’s an excuse to defeminize them. That has been an ongoing theme since they butchered the running animation.
Just keep up the pace and good work like this into 2015
… am I missing something?
Obviously. If you think inside the box like some of the forum posters here, I blieve you are missing the big picture. The additions we have this year are way way way better than last year’s. So for me and my guild mates it’s something.
He just posted the big picture; apparently you’re the one missing it.
Sooo, if I got this straight. Simply because some neckbeard(s) bug reported that their female characters were stretching at inappropriate times we’re now stuck with female idle animations that have us only looking around and nothing else? Is this one of those, “cause it breaks my immersion” arguments?
I still see countless mesmers in the immobile standing position despite still in motion after using their blink skill all the time. A bug I’ve lovingly dubbed “hover mode,” and that has been in effect since day one. We going to disable blink now? C’mon… Really? Can we have our idles back now?
You mean legbeards.
“Just be bad, you’ll enjoy it more.”
No, absolutely not.
What the hell… the game LACKS them.
Seriously you whining people won’t be satisfied until everyone is a grey, neutered blob wearing pants.
It won’t be fixed today, especially when a new part of the LS is coming out. Don’t want to “break all that immersion” by having someone kick the dirt in the background while waiting for the cinematic to end..
Do you guys spot anything?
(HINT)look at her waist
And FYI I have no idea where to put this so I put it here
Okay.
I guess the bottle is odd.
Soooo…. any chance of us getting them back in the interim while the cut-scene “issue” is waiting to be addressed?
Anyone?
Anyone?
…Bueller?
I read some posts that some people actually aren’t playing because of this. Is that true? I mean not a lot of people or boycott or anything, but someone with female characters was saying he wasn’t playing. Just curious. Maybe it was on the other thread.
I for one. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
so will they put the old running animation back?
I wish. There was Z E R O reason to mess with them in the first place.
If we start going towards this new feature that everyone can pick how their characters behave, it will take another 2 years before we see anything, if we ever see anything.
Which is why people need to stop dreaming about “more choices.” There are only two choices viably available here in the real world: with restored animations, or without them.
I spend mere seconds in cinematics. Sometimes not even long enough to see the removed animations play out or at least notice them. I spend a lot more time waiting for events to spawn and so on. If it was so important to remove the animations then it’s equally or perhaps more important to get them back in there, but so far it has been almost 2 full months since they were removed.
This also doesn’t explain why the running animation was changed a year ago (and the sitting animation where she moved her finger on her thigh, which was removed).
It may be partly because of cinematic “immersion” but I believe there is an underlying pathological reason for all these animation changes/removals on Human female in particular, and that above all bothers me the most.
My character is driftwood until this gets fixed.
May as well also correct the YEAR LONG running animation screw up. NPCs are lucky enough to have it but we aren’t.
Wishful thinking.
At least this is something!
I will see if I can follow up on this. I may not get an answer today, since it’s Friday night, but I will see if there’s any info on this to share.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Want-the-human-female-animations-back/
Thanks for the heads up. Not gonna hold my breath though.
Would you also like to see more chubby/fat body types ingame? We cannot all be big and muscular
You run around the whole world swinging a big sword at zombies and dragons, and you expect to be a fatass?
Anet developers put a lot of effort into making the human females seem like human females, as much as they could with the technology they had available. I think they did an excellent job of it. So, to be totally fair, I’m sure the animation thing really is a bug.
The people who are trying to neuter females, in games and IRL, are not feminists even though they call themselves that. Those people are enraged by the natural phenomena of gender dimorphism, and tend to be rabidly anti-woman.
The femininity of Human females is something I really adored about this game and the animations were a big part of that. Through thick and thin I could at least have those, but now that is gone too.
They need to retain quality control and get this looked at because so far there is no hint that it’s even on their to-do list.
It might have been too sexy for the American audience. Remember the “uh huh” woman’s voice in Divinity Reach? Some kitten complained so they got rid of it, and it was just a voice.
That really kittenes me off. ANet needs to stop kowtowing to ridiculous pressure. It’s not even about sexiness or the American audience, it’s about neutering femininity and ironically it’s thanks to Feminists that that happens.
Yes. Players PVP the gemstore every week or so.
Ahhahahahaha….
Left 2 months ago and still not regretting it.
Human female bug/graphical glitch/problem in general? Get used to it!
What a surprise.
I guess I won’t bother to log in for another month+ at this rate since this appears to be intentional as I thought it might be right from the beginning. There’s no way it was a mistake.
If neutering characters is their objective then I want no part of it.
Let’s see, if they managed to fix the animation bugs. Although I would like to see the fixed, old and feminine running animation more than the idle animations.
Would be more than nice if they DID…
so uh here we are a month later, whys this so hard to fix?
Lost in the bureaucracy. Who knows.
The gutting of the idle and run animations have left a very bad taste in my mouth. I haven’t played since the first week of September because enough was enough.
I’m sick and tired of them putting off these game details. The only thing that seems to work since day 1 is the cash shop, which I have used on several occasions but I kind of regret doing it in hindsight.
there’s 4 pages of replies about one kitten animation and no one cares about game breaking bugs
keep it up
Gamebreaking enough for me not to waist my time on a product that incrementally removes all the things and then some that initially attracted me to it.
So let me get this straight, the human female only has 1 animation after this “bug” while other races and genders are relatively untouched?
They replaced 2 unique idle animations with a recycled one from the female norn.
But they also removed the sword throw idle animation on human/sylvari male.
And do not forget about the kittened up running animation, which is in the game since “Tower of Nightmares”. Or the female longbow animation on male norn since “Edge of the Mists”. :-)
I don’t understand how they can keep butchering animations like this.
Also the female sitting animation was slightly altered a long time ago. She used to move her finger on her thigh but they took that out. This game was better during beta…
So let me get this straight, the human female only has 1 animation after this “bug” while other races and genders are relatively untouched?
They have constantly screwed with human females in general. Screwing with armour textures, the running animation, and now the idles. Soon the human female will just be a human male or gender neutral.
Absolutely RIDICULOUS. The feminine animations and look was what made it initially so popular and they keep trying to TAKE THAT AWAY.
I think there were some problems with the animations.
The shoulders would pretty much dislocate or sink into the torso during the stretching animation and look awful…
That is definitely not the case here.
It seems far more likely that it was relegated to the bug forum, or forum of lost posts, to do just that. Get it gone. Strategic. Its working.
I’m still checking everyday or so since I haven’t bothered to log in for a month. Here and the wiki for possible patches.
But yes..
Those two characters need to be killed off.
I wonder which race is next to have things just taken away. It better not be the one I like best. But then, nobody can really cry to Anet over Asura emotes. Or can they?
It will never be Sylvari seeing how they are the ‘golden children’ of certain people in ANet. They now have 2 unique idle animations, and compared to other races they are appear the most developed, which is ridiculous in itself.
This seems like blatant censorship. I mean, I can see how they removed the code that rendered your character completely naked, but this is ridiculous. And dull. Really dull. Please let this be a bug. Please don’t numb down the most basic movements of our characters.
The most blunt censorship in this game was to remove the straps from the Masquerade Armor. But they also removed the skulls from the “Tamini Death Markers” at this heart in Queensdale. The last one does not even make sense.
I didn’t even notice the garter belts were removed. It must have been pretty recent because I swear they had them around release.
This is ridiculous! It’s been almost a month.
Now I discovered something really strange this morning.
In Divinity’s Reach at the Lyssa Waypoint, there is a human female, who is doing the stretch animation the whole time. Too bad it’s a static idle animation, but eventual an evidence that the animations are still in the game. ^.^Edit: There seems to be more human females in Divinity’s Reach, who are behaving the same. Seems a bit illogical, removing the idle animations but leave some NPC, who are still using them.
What the hell is going on… how does any of this even happen, that is: missing or glitched out.
I miss the human warrior male dual wield sword idle animation. Where he throws the sword a bit. It gave character and depth to the game. I hope this gets fixed. I honestly feel it detracts from the game. We’ve already seen the game simplified, content cut and taken out.
This has to stop. Fix the animations!
Quality Assurance doesn’t seem to matter that much.
I only have one. I won’t play it until the animation is restored. It has nothing to do with the animation itself. It has to do with what was taken from me for no reason, other than to probably appease someone else.
In the same boat for the same reasons. Unfortunately for me all my characters are human female so I’m on indefinite hiatus.
Just another reason to never make a human female. Humans get even more boring daily. I’m sorry.. but I, for one, don’t believe this was any kind of “bug”. I don’t think it will get fixed anytime soon and I don’t believe Elvis is alive.
I’m done with ANet if that becomes the case. It’s outrageously underhanded if it were just removed to appease a few crying babies, leaving not only the quality of the game to sink but to leave everyone else out to dry.
The eradication of the running animations was bad enough.
Use strafe keys and mouse turning like everyone else that actually binds their keys.
Last patch fixed a lot of NPE issues people were having.
This ought to be coming up next since the brunt of the problems have been resolved… r-right?
Terrible suggestion, Berserker is fine how it is.
If you had read it, you would have seen that in the end nothing changes about the zerker…
Not only did you break zerker stats, but you broke every stat combination with power on it.
Ignoring us? Sometimes it feels like they’re poking us with a stick and laughing at how we react.
Y’all are a little too sensitive. A.Net has to do what THEY FEEL is important to the game. Often times, it is the players who have blinders on and only see the small part that deals with them not the game as a whole.
Feelings get in the way of reality and what works. Feelings are what put the game in its current state.
So no, they have to stop doing what they feel is important to the game if what they feel is important is this out of touch.
They achieved a race to be hated with the Sylvari.
I’ve played RPGs for over 20 years, even some table top ones when I was younger. Not once have I ever encountered something like a burst of stats every several levels. The original ‘burst’ comes from finding new equipment which shows on your character, not from the natural growth of your character.
Google “resistance to change” for ways to overcome it.
I see your cop-out and raise you a “Google ‘post-purchase rationalization.’”
Better yet, I’ll leave a few links for all to see because Googling is too confusing for some: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-purchase_rationalization
http://www.wds.co/post-purchase-rationalization-we-all-want-to-believe-we-made-the-right-choice/
I don’t revive someone that I just revived, at least until I completely go through my rotation and have time to do it. Dead players I only revive at the end but I don’t revive ones that sat there dead through most of an event/encounter instead of running back. If I fully die I waypoint right away (unless there is a lot of people reviving me but I feel guilty for letting that happen, but it doesn’t happen often anyway) and expect others to do the same. If they don’t, they can enjoy their face planted in the dirt to their heart’s content for being lazy.

More abilities and choices = more fun. Less dependence on pets/minions also = more fun.
Ele has been a godsend to this game to be honest.
I think you can teach a dinosaur to play through it. If that was the intent then kudos. Unfortunately they are technically extinct but it’s the thought that counts I guess.
Honestly I can’t for the life of me understand how people would not be able to figure this game out. If that’s the quality of person our “education systems” are pumping out then we have bigger problems than the NPE.
It’s really easy to ignore missing idles though. Don’t stand there. Go play the game. Do a jumping puzzle. Run a dungeon. Earn 10,000 Geodes in Dry Top then spend them all on clay. Do something instead of just sitting there staring. I don’t see my idle animations every time I play my character, and I play female humans almost exclusively. Because I’m too busy running around doing things. However, when I’m doing all that stuff, I can’t not see my character’s bum clipping through the back of her skirt.
Also, by your own logic of “If the armour clips, don’t wear it”, well, if the idles for one race/gender are gone…
Don’t play it. Even if you loved it the most.
Too bad, that missing idle animations are not the only bugs I considered. There are more animations on different races/genders A-Net destroyed. Like male Norn now using the female longbow animation or once they are throwing greatswords, it looks unrealistic now. Human female getting stucked by casting “Wave of Wrath”. And so on.
I am sorry, that my characters are not just tools to achieve everything in this game. If you just log into this game, do dungeons and farm like there is no tomorrow, it’s your decision. I also play this game, do dungeons and go WvW/PvP. But I also like do enjoy other things in this game, like waiting at the bank and see my character doing silly things.
I thought something was really off about the Norn longbow animation.
Also my thoughts exactly.
