I noticed the majority of posters in these forums either dont play anymore and complain about the game or complain about every single thing anet put out even if it is really good. I personally like the new leveling system. also lvling is faster because it takes less to fill a heart.

I don’t know what the kitten you’re talking about. I’m even logged in right now. I have been playing since release and especially the last month ever since I started another character that I kept putting off and was surprisingly enjoyable for me. I thought I would rekindle that by trying two other classes I kept putting off (Ranger and Warrior) only to log into this godawful patch that seems to have ruined almost everything it promised to improve. It even killed off animations from my characters.

There has been nothing good about this patch except the new sigils/runes and some class changes and maybe a few other things here and there. That’s IT. The majority of this patch has been a dismal failure.

I am confused, why are people just watching their characters sit idle? When I am playing I am normally, you know, playing not standing around.

It gives you the sense that your character is alive. Just that sense adds another dimension to the game. There is a reason why idle animations were introduced into games at all, and many years ago mind you. It’s not a new thing and they are pretty important (as are all animations).

Maybe you unlock all idle animations at certain point/level?
Maybe idle animation was too confusion for the new players?

You know I logged on my 80 to see if that was the case. She just stands there now like a lifeless doll… I never thought something like this would be so infuriating but it is the last straw for me. This patch is a nightmare through and through and now they are killing off my favourite race/gender choice (after screwing with the run animation). What’s next ANet? Are you going to lop off her breasts, squeeze her hips together, and give her a kitten?

This is a PERFECT example of how you just can’t please everyone all the time.

Some people hate the idle animations, other people like them.

Rock and a hard place.

Well, the problem here is that there’s only one idle left. So it’s kinda silly.

Agreed, now it’s the same one constantly on repeat, quite annoying. I just don’t get the reasoning in removing them by Anet.

My head is spinning in insanity as my character just repeats the same kitten thing over and over again. Why even have animations at this point for kitten’s sake.

Welcome to the real world, where people who are good at things have to suffer through inconveniences so that businesses can cater to the MAJORITY of their customers who are NOT good at things.

Silver Lining: Your inconvenience means you are better at this game than the average person who needs all the handholding.

It’s insulting to the average player to assume they are drooling idiots that cut themselves on their keyboards, or that they can’t handle pushing more than 5 keys on said keyboard.

It’s also an insult to the customers that paid for a product that now has an age restriction of 3 years old. I paid for an MMO called GW2, not a Fischer-Price play set.

The only people who should be insulted are those who don’t know enough to be insulted.

No, because they then warrant it even more. The only way for people to do better is to have their flaws exposed either by making mistakes, giving them challenges to overcome, or by having someone else point it out, all so that they can work on improving themselves. All this handholding and coddling is only going to create worse players, not better ones. I cannot for the life of me see a new player who just hit level 40 and decided to try PVP, only to be completely hammered into the ground by every player they came across, even lower ranked ones, because their whole GW2 career consisted of handholding, babysitting, and spoonfeeding.

ANet needs to read some Nietzsche and put down their copies of Frankfurt School-inspired literature.

You guys are funny.
1 week ago if someone posted something about a GW2 review everyone would say

“Oh look, just another random guy on the internet giving his OWN opinion on the game, which is worthless for everyone but him”

Perhaps if it was just one or just a few random guys. There is a lot more than one or a few, and if you can’t get that yet then maybe you need a safety helmet yourself. Luckily this patch has just supplied us with many safety helmets, diapers, and training wheels. Thanks ANET!

People complaining about the new leveling system need to smarten up, it is for new players. MMORPG levelling is supposed to be slow. You shouldnt be hitting the game’s max level in 2 months (i think some could even do it in less). If you are used to the old leveling system especially from leveling multiple characters, you will find the new way of doing things a complete drag. Those who havent played the game before might see it differently.

Its all so $tupid, people complain about quickly getting to end game and then getting bored. Anet responds by adding fractals, WvW tournaments, PvP rewards and other stuff to improve end game, but people still complain. Anet decides to slow down the leveling process so new players can appreciate end game a little more, but somehow the old players still complain.

Some of you need to be smacked and locked in Arah with lupi

It’s not for new players. It’s for 6 year old children that get excited at receiving a gold star from their teacher.

You need to smarten up if you can’t tell they are dumbing it down to ludicrous levels.

I think that’s what’s happening. Either that or they had nothing else to do but bring China’s changes to us rather than work on something that isn’t complete garbage.

PVP is thankfully not butchered but I sure as hell cannot stand what they have done to the levelling experience among any other issues.

You don’t even have all your downed skills until later and underwater combat isn’t open until later as well, never mind the fact that you don’t get your 5th underwater skill until around level 20.

New content:
1. More skills
2. More traits
3. More weapon combinations

But those would be confusing and difficult to learn for new players…

New players this…new players that, I’m sick and tired of it. They should simply dump these new players in a different instance called ‘Reatard Mode’ (intentional sp) and be done with it.

My thoughts exactly. Apparently all these new players are all mouthbreathing idiots according to the new levelling up experience. ANet is catering to a lowest common denominator, one that hardly exists. There are more old players in this game than new ones, a lot more. Everywhere I go I see people with Loyal and Veteran titles or late 80 titles. Every party I’m in for world boss events has people with 4000-13,000+ achievement points. Most players know how to avoid damage and NEVER needed a kitten “learn how to dodge” tutorial which actually makes you dodge INTO something rather than away (like the spinning golems in the Mists). I rarely ever see new players or even very inquisitive ones asking for all kinds of pointers. Once in a while you get someone asking for the mystic toilet in LA but that’s really it.

Anet is way out of touch.

I don’t think the game needs any of these so called ‘collections’. At a time when other great multiplayer games are being released, not adding exciting new content to GW2 (that would make players happy) will surely lead to an earlier demise.

New content:
1. More skill choices (for each weapon)
2. More traits (a trait tree or trait network)
3. More weapon combinations

Even adding the ability to save current weapon/armor setup as templates would have been a HUGE improvement to QOL…

BUT THAT’S TOO HARD AND COMPLICATED. WE NEED MORE TUTORIALS!

I mean really all they have to do is those 3 things (of which I have been waiting since release for) but they are going in the COMPLETELY OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

This new patch effectively takes a bat to our knees and forces us to crawl, telling us that crawling is all we can do and that we shouldn’t aspire for more or better or even earlier things (like how it was before this patch) because “those things don’t exist and never did, so shut up and take it or you’ll be shot (forced to quit).” It’s like the Hammer and Sickle flag was just raised all over this game.

Also, I had been planning to make an alt all week now and I decided to try it out this morning, much to my dismay. The new changes are some of the worst I have ever seen in any game. The TP and other changes were frustrating enough, but this… this is just unbelievable.

You have to remember one important aspect to this: We are not China.
The game will not function here as it does in China.

The students I know over there are frustrated playing their version of the game too.

Also, by not having vistas and skill challenges available at an early level

I noticed the skill challenge restriction but I was too peeved to notice the vista restrictions. So much for leveling up by exploring the world.

You can get vistas from level 2. They simply don’t show up on the map prior to that. I’ve been getting vistas as I pass them on my character. It’s a gate for information, not for what you can do. The only exception seems to be skill points, which is okay because you can’t use the skills you buy with them anyway at low levels.

We used to get our first skill at level 5, and before that you could amass some skill points so you could afford at least 2 different utilities to try out. Now we are being harassed, forced to go back and redo earlier areas and backtrack (same for the living story) because of a terrible system that shouldn’t be here in the first place.

It is NOT okay.

Blizzard also did this to WoW when Cataclysm came out (i’m guessing).
They removed hostile mobs, by making them yellow instead of red.
They also got rid of drowning for characters under 10.
They removed armor damage for players under 10.
They introduced quest markers on minimap & map.
Skills automatically unlocked, which was probably the best thing to come out of their “NPE”.
And many other things too.

It’s as if Anet took a step backwards though, and are using the traditional MMO skill locks, that are restricted by levels. It’s just the same as WoW and all the other clones now.

That’s about when I quit that game. Then recently I tried the Panda expansion because it was on sale for like 10 bucks, and holy kitten, what a trainwreck that game has become. I did a max level dungeon as a freshly levelled character and didn’t realize until the end that it was Heroic. I was falling asleep part way through how ridiculously easy it was.

LOL I dunno how some people can defend this type of kitten. They should just get rid of the prologue altogether. It’s freaking useless.

Some people do like the changes, and I will respect them for it. But I honestly feel that the starting zones provide players less freedom than necessary to cement a solid first impression.

Why would you respect them for liking something so godawful? Respect is earned, not just given away, otherwise it means nothing.

These are terrible changes and anyone who doesn’t wear a safety helmet while playing can see that. It’s that simple.

The New leveling system is frustrating.

I’m a pretty diehard fangirl. I’ll stick around if they introduce this, because it would probably save me money <3

I don’t really understand why people care about it. If you don’t want the perks …. don’t pay for it? I don’t know. If there’s something on the store I don’t care for, I don’t buy it. I don’t complain and say “I’m leaving the game because you introduced optional items that I don’t want!”

I’m not trying to be a jerk or anything. I just really want to know how this affects people so much.

It’s a matter of how you want to support the game. If they would ask me for money to create new content, I would atleast dumb 10€ per month into the game, only asking for them to keep their promises. If they want me to buy something from the gemstore,or even ay for VIP status, then no, I’ll never gonna do that. I’m not supporting such bold strategy to fund their game.

Okay but how does having a VIP status that you don’t want affect you in any way?

Apparently you don’t understand that taking things that were originally part of the game and then repackaging them as “VIP,” forcing people to pay for it, does indeed have an effect on us.

This is tantamount to creating a disease and then offering a cure… for a price. Now again, how does that not affect us?

to be quite honest… they’re just making us “SWING A SWORD… OVER AND OVER AGAIN… HEY I SWUNG IT AGAIN… OH AND AGAIN!” <remember something like this?

Yes… the Guild Wars manifesto trailer said something like this. and according to Guild Wars 2 developers they said “This is not something we want to do… we want to make the world living and make everything unique”

Instead they are going against what they said in their very own manifesto and doing the complete opposite. I would like Guild Wars 2 patchbringers to realize what they are doing to their manifesto promise

I personally don’t like the level lock on the skill bar. The story on the other hand i’m fine with… although they could lower the personal story to level 5.

Sure because 10 levels is the game. Most games have tutorials. The quote you’re quoting is actually a quote about grinding levels to get to the fun stuff.

Can you still go to PvP at level 2 if you want? Yes. Can you still level in EotM? Yes.

It’s not like you can’t go there. That’s what Colin was talking about.

I wish people would stop taking quotes out of context. It doesn’t help their arguments.

And I don’t appreciate ANet employees masquerading as simple players considering you’ve done nothing but try and damage control all morning. Put your red tag on already.

I would hazard to guess there are more new generation players that want things spoon fed rather then the old schoolers.. and I know plenty of over 40 players who have only gotten better at games and don’t mind the work to figure stuff out.

That’s not really true. The younger generation can pick up a game instantly and speed through impressively. I know because most of my gamer friends fit into that age range. It is the older player base that needs the spoon feeding and hand holding.

Most e-sport pros retire in their later 20’s because their reflexes and decision making ability diminish around that time. My six year old can pick up a game without any tutorial, gaming is definitely for the younger generation. I am just trying to live out my glory days still.

I believe gw2 is pandering to the older generation with the money? Because there is no hard mode in this game. Been a gamer all my life, grew up with four brothers. Played console and various mmo. Even playing moba which is the most competitive, the hardest part of this game for me is movement control and skipping Arah trash mob.

They are DEFINITELY not pandering to the older generation. Far from it. GW2 has become an utter insult and I feel like a fully grown adult man (which I am) being forced to ride a 3 year old’s tricycle to cross a street.
