@ArcTheFallen – I understand that but realistically how many single player guilds do you think will have spent the amount of gold required to research Art of War tier 5 ?

I would bet it’s close to none.

@maddoctor – What I said about intrinsicly linked is that you take all your PvE skills/traits/gear etc into WvW with you so they have everything to do with each other. As WvW was designed as basically another PvE map where you are allowed to hit each other I don’t know how difficult it would be to sever the link between the two.
As they share the same ruleset then if they nerf a class because they are OP in WvW then of course it will affect that same class in PvE because it is the same thing.

What you are asking for is to make it 3 completely different rulesets – SPvP/WvW/PvE, I’m saying I don’t think that is possible without totally rewriting either WvW or PvE.

Don’t think it will ever happen personally.

The first gmission available requires art of war level 5. I doubt any single player guild has that unlocked.
I would assume that if you can get that unlocked and then earn enough influence to kick off the mission it would allow you to. I also doubt that it would be able to be completed solo though.

Try searching for the old threads. WvW is PvPvE and as such totally follows the PvE rules and has absolutely nothing to do with SPvP. SPvP is completely seperate of everything and was designed that way.

I’m not getting into an exhaustive discussion on something that has already been discussed to death. Try looking up the ’Why are vistas and Poi in WvW" and stuff like that.

This has been brought up several times before and the majority view has always been not to seperate WvW from PvE.

Not sure it would be easy to do either because WvW is intrinsicly linked to PvE and has nothing at all to do with SPvP.

Level cap increase past 80? Y/N

Voted No. It’s a landslide for the No’s at the moment with 80% voting No.

The reason – It’s simply a gear reset. Been there a few times in other mmos and everything you spent those hours accumulating becomes worthless overnight.

Pretty sure I’d just walk away with a level uncrease. Not into doing things over and over for no real reward (your just replacing what you had). It’s the main reason I left another popular mmo. Went through the gear reset 3 times and at the fourth decided it wasn’t worth it.

I really do not see any point whatsoever in increasing levels. Can anybody point to a single benefit to the player ?

What I can say is that I don’t feel rewarded for what I’m doing at lvl 80.

Made cof, arah and ac more than 50 times each and I don’t feel fine with having to farm months to get legendary stuff that adds just a different “look” and no special stats to your character.

Meeting everyday people with full mf set and having to carry them and their “pirate bird” all the way through the dungeons makes me angry.

I’m possibly not explaining myself well and we also possibly see things from a differnt viewpoint, which is fine., we represent different points of view. This is what makes a good discussion.

I was perhaps too simple saying that sweeping statemnt that poor loot makes a poor game, let me try and qualify it.

The game is a good game and I thoroughly enjoyed it first play through and seeing all the great content and artwork. Once that is done do you just shelve the game and play something else, marking it finished or perhaps just returning for new content ? It’s a valid question.

What keeps (a lot) of players playing after completing the content is their own goals. That could be legendary or kitting out a new toon or whatever. Those goals tend to require loot, not for the loot itself but for the money, mats etc that loot gives in order to facilitate that goal. If people do not feel in any way rewarded for the time they put in to achieving their goal and cannot see progress then, on the whole, they leave.

Once players leave they tend not to return, moving onto that ‘next’ mmo. If the playerbase shrinks then it is difficult to attract new players into the game to see the great content for the first time.

I may not have a crystal ball but I have seen enough very good games fall by the wayside due to what at first seem to be petty problems but problems not addressed leaving to a downward spiral. SWTOR being one of the most recent.

The number one problem is terrrible loot. I have not received a single exotic since the Nov patch (barring mapping or special events). Even rares, which are really not worth much at all, are indeed very rare. It just seems pointless playing sometimes as there is no reward in a reward based game.
I already know droves of people (over 100 players in my original guild) that have left because there was no incentive to play.

I am still playing because it’s free but I am acively looking for something to replace it with which is a shame. It could be a good game but at the moment it just isn’t. Every boss or dragon ends in disappointment as soon as you open the loot. Nobody will continue with that for too long, even the fanboys will have had a gutfull sooner rather than later.

So without a loot rule change I think it will soon be a dead game.

Is loot seriously that super important enough that bad drops means GW2 is dead? I can’t think of anything that can’t be obtained without farm except for fancy exotics and legendaries. There isn’t a particular item that allows you to use content that can only be achieved solely from farming. The only thing I can think of that a consistently flawed RNG would do is to inhibit farming thus not allowing players to “play the way they want to” (although I honestly don’t see the fun in farming).
.

To a lot of people loot is one of the main reasons they play. It is the reward for the effort they put in, it’s what gives the sense of achievement. “Look I smited the big boss and looted from him the fabled pointy sword of pointyness”. Having poor loot in a loot based game surely makes that game poor no ?

Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed the game but I have played every dungeon, done a lot of WvW and am nearing my second map completion. After enjoying all the content for fun and giggles the incentive to repeat it is loot! Not with better stats, just enough loot so that I can make a little money to buy the things I want, to break down for mats to craft the things I want. If people are prevented from doing the things they want in game they will find a game that allows them to.

Again, I don’t see leaving the current system resulting in a dead game, especially not soon. I do, however, think the game would start to grow at a higher rate if the system was tweaked.

I don’t know, maybe we just have different takes on what a “dead game” is.

By dead game I don’t mean nobody playing it. To me a dead game is one that is shrinking. Once a games player base starts shrinking it’s very difficult to pull it back into line. Investment gets cut, updates reduce, more people leave, difficult to attract new players and the cycle continues until they eventually pull the plug.

Welcome to GW2.

If I was to start again I think I would roll 5 different class/race combinations and take turns in completing home cities and starting areas relevant to them. By then you would have a much better idea on which class/race suits you.

Once you finish your starters and have unlocked your weapon skills I would take each into WvW and see which you prefer there.

After spending some time in WvW I would take each class into SPvP and play a few matches/tournaments. You get to see the classes as they will be at 80 and which feels comfortable.

From the above you should then be set to move forward and know which class or classes to progress with. Nothing worse than levelling a class to 80 and realizing you picked the wrong class.

Big tip – If you like jumping puzzles they are much, much easier on smaller characters like Asura.

Are Legendary Weapons Symbols of Achievment?

In my opinion, legendary means nothing more than you have a legendary.

I was originally working on Bifrost and I am an older patient gamer, I didn’t work on it exclusively just stored away the things required to craft it.
I gave up when they became more about how much money you had rather than how much time you spent working at it.

The fact is you can buy a completed legendary with a credit card 10 minutes after buying the game, so to me they mean nothing, nothing at all.

If I see a PvP title, I respect the player putting that effort in to gain that title, If I see a full set of dungeon armour then I respect that players knowledge of that dungeon, heck, if I see someone with Toymaker title I respect that player committing to achieve all the objectives over Christmas. If I see a legendary I wonder if they bought it outright, just bought the precursor, if they are just a lucky player having the precursor drop for them or if they are an exploiter, have bot alts or are gold buyers.

It’s unfortunate that what should have been a status symbol in game was ruined in that way. It is not a status symbol at all in my view.

Oh and it certainly does not put you at a higher status than the average Joe. A full set of dungeon armour says more about a player than a legendary weapon. A full set of dungeon armour says that this player knows the dungeon and has succesfully completed it a number of times, it says this would be a good player to bring on a run of that dungeon. Legendary doesn’t say anything about a player at all as there are ways of attaining them out of game.

Put it this way, I have a good, well paid job. I could buy a fully crafted legendary right now and equip it when I get home from work and it wouldn’t mean a thing. I can afford it but I choose not to buy it exactly because it means nothing so would be a waste of money (in my opinion).

Another precursor post thingy

The precursor prices are all determined by gold sellers and will continue to rise as long as people are willing to buy them.
You can order the precursors from the goldsellers websites – Dusk for example would set you back a little over £160 (which is still significantly cheaper than buying gems and exchanging for gold to buy it off the TP).
If you want a completed Eternity then you are looking at over £1100. Yes you read that right £1100!
While there is real money to be made from these items a normal player will never be able to afford one using regular gold making methods.

The first time I did these it was run, dodge, grab waypoint/vista/poi, run, dodge etc so although I got my map completion the only parts of Orr I knew really well and had a proper look around was the cursed shore event paths and bases and the odd route that spawned Ori nodes. Since the change I can actually take a proper look at all the areas and appreciate them much more. Heck even being able to stop in a safe spot and check the map is a luxury you didn’t really get before.

+1 for the changes.

Crafting: Mat $$ > Product??

in Crafting

Kandrick.8054

OK it’s not an all or nothing when gathering your mats.

Normally I will spend the week doing a few dungeons, some WvW, some dailies, events etc and gather stuff while I’m tootling about.

At the end of the week, like on a lazy Sunday when I have the time I will go craft. Now I can normally craft up some items simply from what I have gathered during the previous week so the cost of that is simply my time (already spent). What you will notice after a while is that you have loads of the base components, wood, leather, ore etc but not enough of the fine items, scales, bloods and suchlike but if a recipe needs say 15xSome tier of fine material you might have 9 of those so you buy the additional 4 from the tp. This keeps the cost of actually crafting the item down and you make more money than you spent on the 4 tier X items you had to buy..
If you have picked up the wrong statted item then sell that crafted gear to finance the gear you actually want. I have found attmempting to target farm a specific fine material to be a huge waste of time (and thus money).

Hope that makes sense.

They have to be very careful with stats. I think Ascended items were not originally in the overall plan and they don’t really fit. You cannot give all stats or you could push things like Crit % chance over 100% or make healing so strong you can outheal anything or toughness so high you take virtually no damage or health pools so high that you can literally tank the boss stood in his face.

You know that Berserker AND Soldier stats are in both amulets and rings, right?

Sorry, I was talking more generally as a concept ather than specifics. The stats I mentioned are for descriptive examples only, I haven’t actually looked up what exactly is and isn’t available.

Also as I said I could be totally wrong on this, it is just my best guess.

I’m not saying amulets will do that as it stands but add in rings/backpiece/later ascended weapons and armour/food/consumables etc.. You can only fit in so many stats before going too far and having to retune the entire game because you just made everything trivial, if you do that new players wouldn’t stand a chance of survival.
That’s my opinion on why only certain stat combinations are available. Someone at Anet knows what is coming and what the eventual stat limit is and has to make the hard choice of what you can and cannot have in order not to break their game.

Of course I could be well wide of the mark as I am just voicing my personal guess.

Laurels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kandrick.8054

Kandrick.8054

It also still makes sense in running fractals as it’s easier to get rings that way than to spend laurels on them in most cases. People will really be wanting amulets for their main and their alts which is many dailies and monthlies worth depending on the amount of alts you run. To also get rings for alts would take forever using laurels so it still makes sense to pick the rings up through fractals.
Also your time hasn’t been wasted, nobody is going to take the ascended items you already earned away from you. You have a headstart on maxxing over most as you will already have ascended rings and packs for your characters and can concentrate on getting them kitted out with amulets immediately. You are closer than most to the ultimate goal of owning Chauncey Von Snuffles III.

So far the patch gets a thumbs up from me.

The no res rushing is a good thing. It may be painful in the beginning but will really make it easier for developers to tune properly. Res rushing simply papered over the cracks. If the majority of people really cannot progress past a certain point in a dungeon they will now have to tune the dungeon appropriately (because people will contantly flag it up), whereas with res rushing people would just finish it up and pay the repair bill and it could go unnoticed that the difficulty is too high for most.

If that makes sense.

The problem you have is that you picked the wrong activity for your playstyle. If you wished to grind hard in order to get the best reward your activity should have been legendary not Ascended.

Seriously, this game was never intended to be time played = elite gear/status. The philosophy was that you could fairly easily attain max statted gear with different playstyles. Karma, dungeons, crafting, dragons etc all lead to the same exotic gear (OK it should be dragons).
Within a week of releasing fractals they held their hands up and said it was a mistake only making ascended items available using one method and that they would rectify that mistake over time – I give you laurels.
So it has always been the case and generally known that ascended items would become more easily available and I further expect other ways to be introduced in the future.
A lot of players who did not like fractals saw this and opted to wait for the new methods of gaining these items and will now get their payoff.

I think it is a great system. For example I pretty much burned out by December playing too hard too long in WvW since release so took December off pretty much completely. I came back this month and guess what – I wasn’t behind the curve like I would have been in WoW. I could log my character in and jump straight back into current content just like I never left.

Legendaries – Covered in the – If someone really wants to grind then … statement. They are covering all playstyles including the grinder. You picked the wrong activity for your preferred playstyle.

SPvP and PvE are completely seperate in this game. WvWvW falls into PvE not SPvP. It is PvP in a PvE environment hence is dictated by the PvE ruleset. So the answer is it treats WvWvW like PvE because it is considered PvE or PvPvE if you like.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kandrick.8054

Wouldn’t make any sense adding laurels to the pvp daily as laurels are used to acquire pve items so why would you get a PvE reward in a SPvP daily, this would be akin to getting SPvP rewards in the PvE daily. If it is for your level 80 then it is for pve in which case you need the pve daily.
As for WvW that is also covered in the pve daily as WvW has nothing whatsoever to do with SPvP. It’s actually easier to get your pve daily completed in WvW so that is a moot point.

The rewards for the PvP daily might need adjusting to make them better but they shouldn’t include PvE items.

Got to 80 – 2 days after official release (was in headstart) and had map completion at the end of the first week of official release.

Yes, I burned through it with speedboosters simply running from one place to another dinging waypoints and poi’s. I did it with my original guildies always in party of at least 3. The only hinderances were the occasional tricky vista or heart completion (some were bugged early on).

We had the distinct advantage that server swapping was instant both there and back so if something was bugged on one server we switched to another. This is also how we completed WvW maps.

Why did I do this ? Well I wanted the litle star and achievement and I was in a WvW dedicated guild and we were given 2 weeks to level up and familiarise ourselves with GW2 before we took to the battlefield. Some of us decided to do it for, well you know …fun.

Oh, I had booked 2 weeks off work too which helped.

I have revisited the zones more thoroughly levelling alts since then.

Edited to say – After re-reading it sounds like a brag – oooh I did this soooo quick Wasb’t meant like that it was meant to relay how it could be achieved so quickly early on with speedboosters, grouping and instant server transfers (as they were early on).

Stopped doing daily and monthly sometime in November. I only logged in twice a week for guild dungeon runs and then logged out as soon as the run was finished. I’m swimming in unused Karma and Mystic Coins so didn’t see the point.

Just rolled a new alt so am back to completing them again although I don’t try for them they just kind of happen. I will still give the monthly a swerve though as I’ve done nearly all the JP’s and can’t be bothered to re visit. When you weigh up how much completing that part would cost in WP’s alone it just isn’t worth the reward. Fractals, WvW and Events is complete for the monthly but cannot be bothered with the JP part. I play the game for fun, I have enough chores around the home to complete monthly without doing them in game.

The JP are easy since it’s only discovery, not finishing them. Park a couple alts in LA. Each overflow counts as one. So you log on an alt, run to the start of each JP, go from overflow to normal, repeat (that’s 6 right there). Log on a different alt, another 6. Do it on your main and your total is 18 in one day with no waypoint costs. You can go beyond that by getting in to different overflows and repeating as well. I finished my monthly on day 2 because it was so easy this month.

But if you don’t care about the karma, pocket change, and coins, it still doesn’t matter.

Lol, can’t believe I never thought of that. Will try this tonight as it shouldn’t take long then and the WP are freeeeee (which is the bit that put me off tbh).

Thanks!

You cannot get banned for kicking someone for whatever reason you feel like provided someone seconds it. You can get a warning if it is deemed to have rolled over into griefing. Griefing would equate to kicking someone who has put in some time and effort into the dungeon, for example kicking at last boss. Repeated warnings for a similar offence could result in a temporary ban.
In this instance the person joining the group had done nothing to progress the dungeon, he had put no work into getting to the last boss so the group can kick them as they are not griefing.

Selling these services is perfectly valid as stated ANet already.

Can I just say that all this worry about the AOE nerf is stupid? Theyre not saying all AOE skills will reduced in damage by —%, theyll look at each AOE skill and decide separately. This talk of conal/AOE/weapon swipes all coming under the same/different attack isnt relevant as theyll buff/nerf each skill separately!

This is also what I am hoping they do. It’s really about time they balanced ALL the classes a little, a buff here and a nerf there. Unfortunately what has been said has simply muddied the waters and led to silly conjecture.

I levelled the warrior just to have a fallback class to play should the worst happen. I fell into that trap in WoW going from vanilla to BC and finding my main useless and having to reroll. Not happening this time.

Way, way overpowered imo.

Warriors arent overpowered, theyre just balanced correctly and are easier to play than most other classes. Warriors spam a few skills whereas other classes have to juggle to deal the same damage. Being overpowered, by definition, means having more power and I dont think thats true.

Levelling my ele and levelling my warrior would suggest otherwise. Some boss encounters on my ele took all my concentration and was still 50/50 if I lived or died. Repeating these encounters with my warrior and they are just pushovers with no doubt who the victor will be.

There is a difference between AoE and a frontal conal attack. Both hit multiple targets but both are not AoE. If the attack is directional it is not AoE. AoE by it’s nature effects an entire area (normally denoted by a ground targeted circle), conal attack only affects targets in front of the caster. Drakes Breath can affect multiple targets but is not AoE, much the same as Hundred Blades.

To my knowledge and previous experience of mmos you cannot get banned for kicking a party member for pretty much any reason. After all it is up to the players whom they wish to group with.
Does this hold true for GW2 ? I am genuinely interested in the answer.

I am being told that kicking is a form of griefing and you can get temporarily banned for it. I don’t believe that is true so could someone clarify this for me please.

Not interested in opinions on the subject. I simply want to know if you can get banned for kicking a part member.

After playing an ele since headstart with no alts I decided to start an alt 3 days ago (in prep for the AoE nerf). I picked warrior. I have got him to level 67 in those 3 days and only died once, when I was afk.
After playing elementalist switching to my warrior is like turning on a god mode button. It’s so easy I’m not sure if I like it as it takes all challenge out of the game.

Way, way overpowered imo.

If you picked warrior because you were afraid of aoe nerfs on your ele you picked the wrong class. About 75% of warriors weapon abilities have some form of aoe on them.

Like ?

I have levelled up using GS and Rifle, which contain no AoE. Both whirlwind and HB are considered frontal cone attacks so would not be affected by an AoE damage nerf. Rifle is ALL single target.

Only thing I can think of that would be affected is axe in main hand for a couple of abilities.

Of course I am not expert on warrior but I don’t see a great deal that affect them. Unlike my main where I play staff Ele and practically every single ability would suffer.

Was asked for gold when joined a group.

“Take a screenie and report”…

I don’t even know what to say…

/doublefacepalm

they are scamming, report function has “take a screenshot” function. I don’t see anything to facepalm about. Even better, once out of the dungeon you can also yell their account and character names on the map chat to warn others.

I just spat out my orange juice haha.

well even if you give them the money what’s there to stop them from kicking you and asking a different player again? Easiest way of course is to screenshot, say no, get kicked and report, because kicking for anything else than trolling and ruining the run is not exactly legal and has gotten people bans before.

Not sure where you got this from ? Kicking is not a bannable offence and you need provide no reason to kick someone. It’s totally up to the players whom they wish to run with.
The only exception to this (theoretically) is if you kick someone say at the final boss which could be construed as griefing. I say theoretically as to my knowledge nobody has ever been banned for it.

So, no. this has not gotten people bans before and the bit about kicking for anything other than … is bad information.

Can you ? I am seriously asking that question as I didn’t think you could.

Ignore – I took your answer as a direct reply to mine, which reading back it doesn’t now seem to be…
