On the contrary. This has been discussed since beta and nothing has changed. I agree with you, but there’s nothing left to say.

Shield of Absorption actually weak!

in Guardian

Kasei.8726

I feel its fine. Try to look at it this way, shield of absorption is comparable to wall of reflect which is a utility skill. In addition it also heals. Shield is basically two utility slots moved to weapon slots.

I hate to be that guy, but no, it’s not at all.

I’m going to be captain obvious here and remind you that Shield of Absorption absorbs and Wall of Reflection reflects. WoR can be placed at a spot and you can continue fighting, SoA locks you in place while absorbing. Being locked in place usually spells defeat.

I won’t speak for others, but I use SoA 90% of the time for its knockback effect since it’s projectile absorption and healing are both lackluster.

Utility Goggles - Reveal Stealthed Enemies

Kasei.8726

Adding reveal to skills feels like a band aid solution. Rather than improving the implementation of stealth itself, adding another layer of balancing issues on top it feels counter-productive. Although I do agree that something needs to be changed.

how about we remove stealth altogether, and while we’re at it lets take kits away from engis too, and rangers pets, and eles mist form, and necros death shroud, and mesmer clones, and just make all the classes the same… thatll make every1 happy :/

Call me crazy, but I would probably enjoy the game a little more without most of that, just saiyan xD

Game Updates: Traits

I didn’t even attempt to hunt them down since I knew I would have more fun just getting skill points and gold in WvW.

Getting traits and skills in open world events was one of my suggestions, so I do like the idea, but a lot of the events they chose were the most frustrating ones.

It really is a shame, it feels like wasted effort on their part.

If aegis wasn’t removed when blocking with the mace and focus, it would be a lot more useful.

Healway vs AH build (WvW)

Kasei.8726

I agree with xFireize, it really comes down to preference. However, you should pick the build that best fits your play style. There’s no point in using AH if you’re not at the front of the pack taking damage.

I’m always at the front, so staying alive is more important than being a boon generator for the team.

Also screw allies XD, they should feel lucky to even have a Guardian in their presence ;P My Guardian can’t fart without giving a boon to someone.

[…]

Allow me to repeat myself, “I can tell you’ve never played the class before.”

Pretty sure it’s still okay around 600, which is ranged, your point is invalid.

You’ve completely missed my point. You’re trying to claim that the scepter is useful at 1200 range, it is not. I don’t agree with you about its effectiveness at even 600 range, but that’s probably due to experience with the class. At 600 range a Guardian will bring a staff over the scepter almost every time.

Same for torch that actually has 1200 range on the 4th skill.

You’re acting as if that skill can be use repeatedly. It’s the second activation of one skill that increases its cooldown. Cleansing Flame (#5) is basically useless against moving targets (what this thread is all about).

[…] as for the hammer, you could even use the trait to chill on crit […]

Glacial Heart has 50% chance to apply chill for 4 seconds on critical with a 30 second cooldown. Completely unreliable.

[…] you can’t have a class that has quite a few gap closers + decent ranged damage, very good offensive and defensive abilities and then the ability to snare the opponents? […]

Perhaps I didn’t write this clearly enough, but allow me to clarify. I don’t think any Guardian want to be able to do everything at once, we don’t want to be Warriors. We want options. Guardians currently don’t have an option to keep an opponent snared even if it meant trading something major for it.

[…]How about some l2p?[…]

You didn’t read the last half of my post.

Where did you read that haven’t tried/don’t currently do those things? Understand what I’m writing rather than mixing in your own opinions.

I’m fine keeping up with most opponents with my current setup and playstyle, but doing so is also very limiting. (and probably due more to skill than my build, but I’m not here to brag) It’s either run my current setup or watch people just run away from me.

edit:

Forgot one

sword too has a 600 range on the third skill

Zealot’s Defense won’t hit anything at 600 range. Even if the target stands still, some of the projectiles will still miss. All projectiles will miss a moving target you don’t activate the skill at point blank range.

I can tell you’ve never played the class before. Go make a guardian right now and tell me how many players you hit with the scepter at a range farther than 400. Not so pro tip: strafing two steps back and forth against a scepter Guardian will make every orb miss.

and if you wanna 1200 range, just use meditation teleport)

Did you not read the other posts in this thread? Teleport… then what?

As for soft cc, GS has one.

We’re talking about things that stability doesn’t affect, i.e. cripple and chill.

###

I’m dealing with this issue by using Runes of the Traveler and Runes of Speed, but it’s still frustrating at times. If Anet wants to provide more build diversity, they should give us more options for keeping on our targets whether it’s in the form of speed traits, soft CC on skills, or more control effects.

How to get me to invest points in Zeal

in Guardian

Kasei.8726

For a GM? As much as I think Guardians need mobility, that’s asking a lot for something so small.

Edit: The minor traits themselves are also what’s keeping people from going deep into Zeal. I’d like to see a rework of these.

I totally agree, I would redesign the entire line if it was up to me.

However, I had a feeling that Anet would only ever give us a movement trait if it was a GM, and limited to basically in combat.

traveler rune on guardians?

in Guardian

Posted by: Kasei.8726

Kasei.8726

I bought a set the instant they came available and haven’t used anything else except for runes of speed since.

[…]

This is just my opinion, but I got so kitten stick and tired of that style of gameplay.

With the runes …

  1. I don’t need to tailor my build around swiftness upkeep anymore
  2. I don’t need to take my staff
  3. I can use my blinks and leaps more efficiently
  4. I can stick to players who don’t have builds built for mobility

You’re right that in WvW you’re going to have swiftness up a lot, but the runes pay off quickly for all those moments that you don’t. Having to switch to staff in the middle of a battle just to keep up with someone is lame.

I’m faster than short bow thieves and double dagger elementalists now /s

Spirit weapons now viable!

in Guardian

Posted by: Kasei.8726

if they are invulnerable, they will be OP in sPVP. ( I don’t really care about sPVP but an outcry will rise)

maybe add another trait that put perma protection on them, or make the weapons take 20% damage from AOE. ( full damage when they are targeted though)

I only remember one complaint back when they were invulnerable, and that was in WvW when spirit weapons could follow you half way across a map.

Just give them really high HP. This way they can still get hit with control effects and conditions, but not disappear when from passive attacks. Make it so that they need to be focused to be killed.

Do guardian's expect to much?

in Guardian

Posted by: Kasei.8726

Kasei.8726

Yes and no xD

Like I’ve said before, I don’t expect much from patches for Guardians.

However, that has more to do with knowing that Anet doesn’t view existing skills and traits as a top priority right now. Let alone Guardian skills and traits. I do expect for bugs to fixed quickly, but I’m not holding my breath on currently lackluster and/or useless skills being revamped anytime soon.

Skills are in their “good enough” bucket for now.

If they ever get serious about sPvP and introduce multiple game modes, then they’ll have to revisit skills and traits again. Unless they change how the game plays, it’ll probably stay the way it is.

Let me say it this way. If another year goes by and spirit weapons and signets are untouched then no one should expect anything ever.

edit:

I added the word “existing” so it’s existing skills and traits. Even though there are existing traits on every profession that need improvements, they’re about to add even more. So yeah, traits are a priority… just new ones, not ones where already have. Apparently it’s easier to add new ones than it is to revamp old ones.

Part of the development process is prioritization, so I’d like to know what you feel are the highest impact items you think would improve our storytelling delivery. What are your top three requests?

My one request has less to do with the story itself but with the implementation in the game.

Merge the personal story with the living story.

  1. Core story events should take place in an instance that remains permanently.
  2. Keep the temporary zerg events in the open world.
  3. New entries should be added to the “My Story” tab in the character menu.
  4. Newly created characters can play through the instances in order.

Eilte skills

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Kasei.8726

Kasei.8726

In Guild Wars 1 (yup, I’m going there) some of the best elite skills were simply buffed normal skills. Sometimes all you need is just one more utility skill to round out your build.

With that said, I don’t think they should allow any utility skill to take the elite skill slot. What they should do is create more elite skills, with low cooldowns, and better synergy with other traits and skills.

My elite skill at any given moment is usually an afterthought right now. I honestly wouldn’t care if they just removed them all for the game…

So Spirirt weapons - Here's how I see it

in Guardian

Posted by: Kasei.8726

Kasei.8726

I just don’t know what I would even want from a spirit weapon. Pets are always the worst mechanic in MMOs and every pet dependant class wants some way to get rid of them.

I mean seriously you want some autonomous summon to do your gameplay for you? I’d rather have whatever effect they grant as a pure cast on demand, brainless summoned drones are always going to be just that.

Geez, You guys got me started again…

If we get rid of the drone AI, I would want one of three options:

  1. For the Guardian to wield the summoned weapon. Like an Engineer’s weapon kit except it has a cast times, duration, and cooldown. It would replace our 1-5 skills but still allow us to use our utilities.
  2. Make the AI more simplistic, direct, and quick. The spirit weapons would move 3x their normal speed to a specific target or targeted area, do their job quickly, and disappear.
  3. “pure cast on demand”
    • Bow of Truth – The bow flies out to the targeted area and removes X conditions and heals over time. Lasts 10 seconds.
    • Hammer of Wisdom – The hammer knocks down the targeted foe AND applies weakness for X seconds.
    • Shield of the Avenger – The shield flies out to the targeted area and constantly blocks projectiles for 10 seconds. Like the normal Shield of Absorption skill, it knocks back enemies in the area when casted.
    • Sword of Justice – The sword whirls in a target’s direction, slashing foes along its path (Warrior’s Whirlwind Attack). Cripples enemies for 4 seconds on hit.

The true test of the bored MMO player…is to delete your character(s).
I get bored…but not THAT much

Players who do that are just trying to prove something to themselves. Players should save their characters so they can come back when there’s more stuff to do.

[…]

I agree that the Living Story sucks for returning players (I missed most of it too), but if sPvP and WvW don’t hold your interest, then there’s not much left for you if you don’t want to grind.

If the LS continues as is, you’ll always be bored with the game :/

WvWvW doesn’t interest me too, because it’s pointless IMO and endless in fact…

I think you’re missing the point of WvW. You shouldn’t need a reason to compete other than the sweet taste of victory. Server points, world exp, guild bragging rights, and server rankings are just noise. It has been and always will be about the battles.
