Hello, is the game worth returning to? Me and my gf quit a long time ago 2 years + i think. We started playing from beta played a couple of months. Last patch I remember was when they introduced the ascended rings or whatever.
For me pve lacked any challenge and for her not having a meaningful healer was too much of a dealbreaker.
So, please be honest is the expansion good? Is the impact of healers strong enough now? How hard is the endgame pve?

As the title says, we are a group of 2 people that have been playing gw2 since launch. We are looking for a guild that focuses on dungeon runs including fractals(we are at lvl 28). We are top geared with 30 AR.
We have been in a few guilds and so far the problem is the same. They all promise active members and guild runs but when you are looking for people in the guild chat, none seems to be willing to join and if they do(which rarely happens) it will only be for the easy dungeons like cof path 1, TA, etc. We want a guild that is running high level fractals with a will to progress, arah and any other dungeon/path.
Over the course of the game, we had a group of people coming with us to dungeon runs but one after the other they quit the game because they got bored of it.
Last, the guild needs to have a voice chat of some description at least as an option if that is mumble or ts or ventrillo and it MUST be in a EU server.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I could equip 1 infused and 1 non infused red ring of death at the same time. The problem happened when i infused the second ring. Well, back to grinding I guess…
Really? Because i could equip 1 non infused and 1 infused at the same time.
I have 2 ascended red rings of death(infused) and i can’t equip them both at the same time. I just spent so many shards to make it and i can’t use it…

I spent 2 hours with a pretty good party and couldn’t kill that boss. That regen is insane. That said, we were doing it for the 1st time i can’t expect much. I’m not gonna cry for a nerf, I agree some content should be reserved for hardcore well coordinated parties. If you tell me that it can be done as it is now, that is enough for me.
P.S. Any advice on tactics, group composition to make this happen?
Yes but at lvl 26 you are guaranteed to drop in infused ring if a ring drops at all
Let’s see, you are comparing two different classes with unsimilar builds. Hey, I wonder why you think your support warrior is more supportive than your dps ranger.
Gee find me a viable support build for ranger then. Also, you are missing the point i think. A support build tanky warrior has equal or more dps than a glass cannon ranger where melee is possible.

I said in the beginning of my post this is probably not the best and fairest way to compare. It is merely my experience playing the 2 specific builds. The goal of this post is mostly to stress that my warrior can dps reasonably not being full on damage gear and be good support at the same time. I am hoping at some point the devs make ranger have a viable support build just as my warrior has. I still like my ranger but i feel more useful on my warrior. I am just hoping that ranger will be given more options in the future especially in spirits that need a complete overhaul to make them viable.
I was playing a ranger for over 2 months when i decided to reroll a warrior at the previous patch and I have been playing warrior for a month now i think. The 2 classes are geared a bit differently, so I don’t know how fair this comparison really is.
Ranger 20/25/10/0/15 using longbow and axe/warhorn. Sometimes i switch to greatsword and sometimes in shortbow instead of axe/warhorn depending on the fight.
Quickening zephyr, sharpening stone and signet of the wild for utility. The gear she is wearing is full power/prec/crit.
Warrior 20/0/20/30/0 Axe/shield and rifle. Sometimes i swap to greatsword. It is a healing shout support warrior wearing power/prec cit on all except helm,shoulders/legs, boots,gloves which are power/toughness/vitality. I use the rune of the soldier to remove conditions as well, which is an additional dps loss.
Damage comparison. Ranged damage is horrible on my warrior the ranger can easily do twice the damage without the pet,, maybe 3 times if the pet stays alive. The ranged damage of the ranger is similar to the mellee damage of the warrior because even if the warrior attacks for less, he hits so rapidly that he makes up for that loss. If the warrior uses greatsword, the dps is clearly greater than the ranger, no doubt about that.
Support comparison. The ranger only has the healing spring which gives regen and removes conditions for 15 sec IF they stand in that little circle which rarely happens. The warrior heals for 1.4k for each shout plus removes conditions with a small cd of 20 sec or so. He also buffs the party with fury and might most of the time if i’m the only warrior on the party and adds 10 stacks of vulnerability(which is similar to the longbow usage i guess). My warrior can also aoe rally pt members which is extremely handy in tough situations. From that i would say that my warrior beats the ranger in support by a great deal.
Survival comparison. The warrior can easily withstand 4-5 times as much damage taken. That said, the ranger does not often take damage being in range and has 50% more endurance by default, while the warrior is bound to get hit way more being in melee most of the time.
My conclusion. While the ranger CAN outdps a warrior in fights where melee is not an option, the support and survivability of my warrior more than make up for it and bring more to the party than my ranger ever could. I have to be less careful playing in my warrior because he can take a lot of damage while i have to be constantly on my toes with my ranger to not get hit.
Right now you can get bis rings with no rng, which is a good thing. The 10 extra agony resist from the infused rings matters only in high level fractals. I really wish it was possible to get infused rings even with 60 daily each, but i’m not too much upset about it. If they introduce a new dungeon where those rings are needed, then it will be again a problem. I’m more upset that they still didn’t fix the dc issue tbh.
1)This is melee damage obviously which is not viable every fight especially in fractals.
2)Big numbers don’t mean much, dps = damage per second not i did a 26k over 3 sec hit and now i gotta wait the cd. Without dps meters, you are just speculating.
3)You only need serious group optimization in really tough fights and so far i have not seen a reason to min/max a party in gw2 dungeons.
4) There is no enrage timers or anything so making a fight last 3-4 min longer is not the end of the world.
I do play a warrior but i’m not really obsessed with what classes i have in the party, i have never kicked someone because of his class.

I don’t wanna argue if warrior or guardian are better than other professions. What I wanna say is that if you honestly believe that said class is op, go make it! It only takes 1-2 weeks top to reach 80 depending on how much you play in this game. Compared to other mmo, leveling a character is ridiculously easy. Instead, even if you are right, it could take them months to fix a hypothetically op class. So, which way is faster?
You only need ascended gear for higher level fractals and for a little edge in wvw. For other dungeons, they are not needed at all. Full exotic is exceptionally geared atm.
I really hope they get rid of rng from anything vital for progression and stat increases. Skins and other cosmetic stuff, they can easily be rng.
Didn’t you say “He (one guy) was a troll”? He got a buddy too to save him? I doubt. If happens, you attempting the kick take a picture of who save him ( votes window pops), report both behaviour, both are banned after a ticket report explaining all. Kick out the trash from this game, not from your group
I was referring to more possibilities where 2 people are friends(not the specific incident), which happens quite often. And why should 3 people’s run be ruined for 2? Reporting the players doesn’t save the particular run.Doesn’t seem fair.
I do agree though that kicking from a 5 member party should require the majority to agree(3 people) instead of just 2 and 2 from a 4 member party.
I’m all for punishing trolls but not allowing to kick people, even before the end of the instance is not a good solution. If someone deserves to be kicked, he should be kicked last boss or not. I am a very patient man and I do my best not to kick people.
Let me tell you what happened to me recently. We were on fractals lvl 10. We had a guy trolling all the run. He was offensive on several occasions to party members just because he messed up and died several times. He was saying how he had reached lvl 20 and we had no idea what we were doing. The problem was, he was the one messing up all the time. The party went ahead and ignored him just because if we kicked him, we couldn’t get a replacement.
Then we reach Jade maw. Opposite to the party wishes that wanted to clear the mobs, he went ahead and rushed forward, forcing us to follow. Then 1 guys failed a jump and died. When we asked him to die also so we can ress he refused. We were again, forced to follow his wishes. The rest of us reach the boss and start fighting. Then he TYPES /SLEEP and just stays there!!! Needless to say, he was kicked faster than i could blink.
So not allowing to kick at later stages is a horrible idea, opening more trolling possibilities.
Forcing 4 votes may also result in 2 friends not wanting to kick each other.
Adding more report features would be helpful and maybe a written justification of the kick also to punish the real trolls. But from my experience, most kicks are justified.
Watch that, the guy beats it solo in 15 min.
It’s a simple matter of practice.
I have done 22 lvl 10 daily and have gotten 1 ring with stats worse than my exotics.
Well, the newest iteration will kick the leader even if the last person leaves, which is pretty strange. It might be annoying if all your party members just resign from continuing and you’d want to invite others. It’s now impossible.
That situation is rare to impossible to happen. If all resign, it means things were pretty kitten horrible in the instance…
you can report him, you know and if he does it a few times, it’s bb gw2 for him

I dropped my first ascended ring after 20 tries. Joke’s on me it’s stats are worse than my exotic ones…
19 days with no ring. It’s become funny at this point to see which number i’m gonna reach…
But it is easy to fix if they decide to. Remove the event(s) and the door. Problem solved.
Forget the math for gods sake. The system is completely broken. I was talking to a guy telling him how i did all those runs without a ring and he was and i quote: “what? I thought the ring was awarded as part of the daily!” Needless to say that guy was getting 1 ring for every run he did. Somehow, the chance if getting a ring for you is related to the chance of another guy getting the ring. There are players that get tons of rings and players that get nothing.
18 lvl 10 now and no ring. Seriously???
I’m willing to bet that that law of probability doesn’t apply there. The chance is the same every time you run it.
I have done 17 lvl 10 daily and still haven’t seen a ring. Why don’t you calculate that chance?

There are tons of people that haven’t been blessed with the wonderful drop system you have there. Personally, i have done 14 tries at lvl 10 or 12 and have never seen a ring. My girlfriend has done 2 less than me and has 3 rings already. I wanna know are the devs planning to do anything about it? I loved the token system that gave you a specific time frame as to when you were gonna get your gear. This is what separated this mmo from others. Seriously, are some players just not destined to get a drop?
Another 2 tries added. Still no ring. This is a total of 14 tries now. My girlfriend has done 2 less tries and has gotten 3 rings already. Come on!!!
I would really like a dev to say something about this. I have done more than 12 daily and i haven’t gotten any ring. When is this rng bs gonna go away? This is not the mmo i came here for.
I use a 20/25/10/0/15 build focusing on maximizing quickness. Depending on the situation i change my trait to either get piercing arrows or the bigger range/damage with longbow. My slot skills are quickening zephyr and sharpening stone with the regen signet that helps me stay alive. (i occasionally change those especially for Lupicus) As a second weapon, I have to switch between a number of different ones depending on the fight. Shortbow when it is a ranged boss fight, greatsword in melee(like coe alpha boss) Axe + warhorn when I need more aoe + speed buff.
Skipping the 10 points in the last tree and spending them in 1st could produce higher dps, but without a “meter” it is hard to say. Those 5 seconds of swapping the pet are in my experience many times vital to being able to swap your pet before it dies so you don’t have to wait longer to swap.
P.S. Like the previous guy said, reroll a warrior. They are superior in every way. I already did.
Thank you for the clarification. As many have stated before, please remove this random factor and make the rings attainable with tokens. I don’t care if it takes 5000 tokens for one, as long as I know that i am guaranteed to buy it at some point and with the stats that i want.

I apologize i should have been more specific. I am redoing fractal lvl 12 in hope of getting my first ascended ring. My question is that I can do lvl 10 also with the same daily reward? Been here in LA for an hour now asking for lvl 12 with no luck. Being able to ask for 2 different levels would increase my chances of getting a party together. (if the potential rewards are the same obviously)
So let me get this straight. If you beat jade maw on 10 and 12 there are the same potential rewards in the daily chest?

I wanna make a warrior that has “just enough” survivability in pve and deals reasonable damage(no glass cannon). I am gonna use shouts/banners with a 10 0 20 30 10 build which i may change a bit once I get more experience with this class. I am mostly concerned about the rings/amulet/earring, because changing them will be very expensive while other gear can be farmed easy. I stress again that it will only be used in dungeons not pvp. Finding the right balance between survivability and damage is proving challenging to me. Any help would be appreciated.
They need at least to get rid of those infinite levels and make them max 10 even if the jump in difficulty is huge. Each level should be repeated with no DR penalty. It seems obvious to me that this dungeon was meant for the fixed groups only in mind.
This is a great idea imo but has been implemented wrong. Party wipes should be possible like in every other mmo. What need to be changed is that players should be able to respawn but not join a boss fight maybe by walls or something preventing them to enter that specific area until the boss dies or the party wipes. That way, if you died in a weird spot by falling or wherever your teammates couldn’t reach you, you could come back to them 90% of the times.
I was expecting the same bonus at this dungeon maybe at least at the end of the set of 3. In this dungeon at high difficulty settings you will be losing money i think. I really hope arenanet adds a money reward at the end.
We have a class that does less damage than ANY other class, ranged or melee. Mr John Peters said that longbow doesn’t need any fixing when if fact it’s attacks get obstructed 10% of the time at least and it’s overall damage is less than what the warrior can do, especially now with the buff(not to mention other classes). Or that sword movement attacks are so gimmicky to a moving target. Not to mention that our attacks can easily be dodged just by strafing.
To make this class viable we need more damage OR more support to be useful and fulfill a role in a party. Spirits need to not die so fast and give more important buffs than those they have now if you wanna make a viable support build. But please hurry, people have already lost their patience. As for me, I am done waiting, I already started leveling a warrior until a new mmo comes out.
P.S. You sold millions and are still making money from the cash shop, yet you can only afford 2 game developers? Hire more.
All these sound like an awesome idea tbh, still don’t see the point of new gear . I stick to the last sentence of my previous post. Also, the op said that people are complaining that getting ascended gear will be hard, while people are actually complaining about a new gear being there in the first place. Last, i sincerely hope this doesn’t make the other dungeons obsolete.
I’d really love to see where did you get that information. I’m not trolling, maybe you have read something that I haven’t. Where did you read that you will be able to finish the whole dungeon, (which as far as i know, will have multiple layers) without ascended gear and how may times will you have to grind your way in the lower difficulty/area until you see the rest of the content? If it is just difficulty setting it makes it more bearable but i have the feeling it will be new content. Again if you have links verifying what you say, please post them. Their initial post said and i quote "Players who wish to delve deep into the Fractals will find that Agony makes progress increasingly difficult, until they reach the point where some defense against this condition is a must. ". Also, you are just speculating. If they introduce a new tier of gear once and people don’t react, there is nothing stopping them from doing it again when enough people reach that tier, making this game awfully similar to wow and swtor gear progression system. I am not saying that there is something wrong with that, (i don’t want to derail this thread) but again this is not what the developers promised to their customers in my eyes. Why the need for new gear? Why couldn’t they just make a new dungeon that has two or three difficulty settings with a new awesome skin and rare(skin) drops from bosses that were only available at higher difficulties and maybe even more gold per run?

You seem to miss the point. The majority of people are upset because we were promised no gear treadmill at several points of the game’s development and it would be all about skins, nothing more. I’d love the addition of a really hard dungeon we have enough easy ones already. This agony condition is the first dungeon in game that introduces specific gear requirements. There is no extra skill needed from the addition of this specific mechanic, just more gear.
