its not only classes that needs drastically direly rebalancemente,s its more also game mechanics, that need to get addresed also too

  • they need to adredss into game balancing finally also the Base Health values, as they are all for the current game balancign state way too low and outdated and need to get adressed finalyl by gettign incresed appropiately.
    The Base Health System needs to get reworked completely. Every class in GW2 should have its complete own INDIVIDUAL base health values and not such a silly system, where base health values get just differentiated only between 3 different types.
    If all classes woudl have individual different base health values, it would become also easier to balance the classes, because then the devs would have 1 factor more they can take into consideration for the overall balance of a class without affectign other classes automatically too with their changes that share the same base health values.
  • condition durations need to get reduced so that condition players need to put points into expertise now to get back the old durations or improve them from a certain point on, so that condition builds finally also have to put points into more than just one attribute to min/max their dps, while direct damage needs for this still 3 attributes
  • concentration/expertise needs to get directly added to celestial gear..its all stat gear, thius means it should also improve for us expertise and concentration with the same values that this equipment gives us already for all other stats

Both modes, where class discrimination currently is very strong due to the massively unbalanced game, especially when you play a thief … the currently most weakest/useless and death nerfed class of all in those two segments of the game, because all other classes in these two areas of the game can do absolutely everything what thiefs can do, but just significantly much better, while providing at the same time also important group support that is for the thief since 3 years nearly non existant or just underwhelming/useless for the situations, because theo ther classes provide just better supportive allrounder effects that are universally more useful, stuff like alacrity, quickness, passive group stat boosts and so on….

Think about it this way, thief cannot be in worse spot than it is right now. And engi is probably peaking in popularity right now. Any investments into engies are VERY risky considering peak classes are often at the center of “balancing”.

you might be right about engi beeing popular than it used to be but i see way more mesmers,druids, rippers and DHs than engineers played in game(pvp-WvW) today and tbh those classes needs more balance than engi…

I hear you but some issues are really out there and needs some attention asap; dont get me wrong i am playing an engi so not so problematic here but i wouldnt wanna play my thief right now considering I have to be perfect and pinpoint accurate to do the damage that another class does standing still with no skill whatsoever and thats not fair imo….

Heya,

I have been playing ranked pvp for the past week it is really fun but there is real balance issues between classes; some classes have ridiculous heal and damage at the same time and that is not acceptable for example druid is funny, they heal a ridiculous amount and does the damage a thief should do; same goes for necro, revenant and mesmer and some other classes are really weak. I have been playing this game since it started and this is the first time i am seeing this much balance issue in the game and i hope it will be fixed soon…..

ok here is the deal i have 11 mastery points stacked up and i cant use them on anything i wanna level, right now i am leveling itzel language and it progress when i chose that during my quests and i am mastery level 4 right now 2 on gliding and 2 on some other things but those 11 points i cannot use on anything??

I am 6o percent done with permier season achievements that awards the title “veteran of the mists” but the first season will probably end this weekend and i am not sure i am gonna be able to make it by then? is there a time limit for the 21th? will everything go away if you cant finish em all by then? cause if thats the case it will be a shame?

I like the idea and I’ve suggested it before, though there was opposition based on worries about elitism and the fact that alts mean your title isn’t as important as it could be, etc. I still like the idea though.

if it is about elitism than there shouldn’t be any titles in the game whatsoever; there are players with godlike titles from pve running around the game and also this is game breaking, WvW requires strategy and team effort and you cant see your team-mate’s level??

Heya, you probably guessed what i am gonna talk about. I am a long time wvwvw player and i cant show that off on my own server. i cant see peoples levels on wvwvw unless they are an enemy ? i dont understand why thats the case? i have played pvp for a while and i have a mercenary title from there and thats the only title i use, anyone know whats the reason behind this title issue? i believe they should make it visible to anyone…

Greetings all

I am a casual wvw player and i love it tbh:) and i have been in a pretty big server called Desolation. We have always been on top tier position for the last year but now we are down to 11th poition. Its not a big deal which tier you are at but we dont have any organised runs going atm. I heard that big wvw guilds like Iron left our server and transfered to another one and i wonder if that is the only reason that we lose this much blood for the past month or so….

1vs1 balance is bsaically impossible.

5vs5 is more reasonable goal. Besides rock paper scissors prevents this.

Ie, a bunker will beat a power dps in 1on1, all things being equal.
A condition necro will beat a bunker all things equal, in the long run.

A condition necro will (more often than 50%) lose to a power dps 1on1. ( minus power warrior who will die face flat to the necro).

there has never, in the history of any game , ever, been a game that managed 1vs1 balance with class diversity. yes it would be ideal, the problem is, its not possible.
Team balance is managable.

Well if that’s the case why there are individual classes in pvp? there should be a team like a football team that consists of a forward a defender a goalie and a midfielder .. they are all football players same class but different roles.. if you have different classes you should have a 1vs1 balance end of story.

All of the structure PvP maps have a fixed time of day. So some are always day and others are always night. This is why in some maps your weapon will glow, and in some it will not.

the thing is; the weapon was glowing in mists the other day but it doesn’t glow today so i wasn’t talking about the maps but thanks for the info..

I just looked into this, and found a minor bug with the way time was flagged in Heart of the Mists map. Time was being locked, but it locked to whatever time it was when the map first starts. So it would either be permanently daytime or permanently nighttime.

Best way for a necromancer to burst from long range is a Terror build (Terror is a necromancer trait that makes Fear tick for damage). With a Rabid or Carrion amulet they can get ticks over 1200 and with staff they can chain into a 4-second fear. If you get loaded up with bleeds and don’t have a stun break you will drop very fast.

i wasnt feard cause i was never close to him, i can burst from range so i had no reason to get close to him but i suddenly drop from full health to 20 percent health than tried to heal but wasnt fast enough to heal so we are talking about 2 or 2 and a half seconds tops..

With Power builds Necros can do great damage with Wells, Lich Form, and the Dagger Main Hand. They have some defensive issues though that you could exploit. Without knowing exactly what he was doing though, it’s difficult to give you advice.

I am really good versus thieves and other melees eventhough i have low armor but it is really hard to counter a damage that comes from range cause you have no idea what he is doing and thats an issue, i can counter ever class including hunters but necromancers are hard to read…

this is brand new for me tbh:) i have been playing pvp since launch and i have seen some incredible dagger eles and some really good thieves but i have never seen necromancers as a threat since today:)

i have an engineer wiht a glass cannon build with low armor but i can honestly tell you i haven’t lost many 1vs1s but this guy was different, he burst me down while tanking another guy at the same time it was so fast even faster than a thief so it was weird cause this wasn’t 1vs1 and i am impressed; so anyone has any idea what build that was? that makes him burst me down in 2 seconds and tank the other guy??

It’s the skin from Ascalonian Catacombs. All weapons from there have a visual effect at night only.

i just looted a pvp forge blade from a chest yesterday and when i first used the blade, it was a shiny blue sword that resonate beautifully but when i used it today it was a regular grey sword; is this a glitch??

I am in a team winning 300 something to 20 something and the other team gives up most of em leaves the game and suddenly auto balancing bs appears and you switch to the other team and you lose a game and you are getting points for this can someone explainto me how this is fair? and the person who leaves the game doesnt get any penalties whatsoever?

On a seperate note, since I don’t know… are D/D Ele’s supposed to be able to heal at this level? Is there a certain build that grants them both good sustained damage + good self heals?

There are builds that let them do quite a bit of healing, but the damage on those builds is fairly lackluster. Although they can keep a good, sustained stream of damage going, they can’t burst at all.

These builds are usually 0/10/0/30/30, clerics amulet with a trait that makes their auras give them swiftness and fury for a duration in combination with boon duration runes and the 25pt water trait that gives +5% damage for each boon on the elementalist.

So the ways they get boons are as follows: A very few skills give boons outright. Switching attunements with the Elemental Attunement trait (every ele has this; every single one) gives a boon based upon which attunement you switch to as well as 2 seconds of fury. The auras give swiftness and fury. If the elementalist really goes at it, they can keep 5 boon on themselves most of the time. Swiftness and Fury are easily made permanent. The Renewing Stamina and Soothing Disruption traits can basically give permanent vigor as well. Regeneration is up more often than not, and might can be had from finishing combos.

For healing, this comes from a mix of things including specialization towards healing power and toughness with just a bit of vitality (I like going clerics amulet with knight’s jewel). First of all, the Elemental Attunement trait gives the player regeneration when switching into water attunement. Then on top of that, the 5pt water trait gives a second regeration buff (not actually regen, so it stacks) that is applied whenever the player is in water attunement; the duration of it is extended by the 15pt arcana trait. Further, the 15pt water trait makes switching into water attunement an AoE heal equivalent to the dagger #5 skill. A further trait can cause it to cleanse a single condition. Finally, the Evasive Arcana trait (grandmaster major arcana) fires off this same heal when the elementalist dodges in water attunement (10-second cooldown).

So here’s what happens when an elementalist is getting a little low on health:
1. They switch into water attunement. This will heal them for around 2400HP and give them the two regeneration buffs (heal for about 400/s combined)
2. They will dodge, healing them for another 2400HP.
3. If needed, they can use their #5, which would be another 2400HP (has a 45-second cd).
4. Frost Breath can heal for another 1000 or so while dealing damage.
5. They’ll probably pop off Frost Aura and Frozen Burst while they’re there.
6. They’ll promptly switch out of the attunement so as to start the 9-second cd to switch back in. Not too much is gained from staying in water attunement for extended periods.

They can do this once every 9 seconds or so, and that’s before they even dip in to their #6 (some prefer Ether Renewal for the extreme condition removal, others prefer the healing signet for a constant stream of healing without needing to activate it).

So yes, D/D eles can heal quite a bit if built correctly. They can also partially negate the loss in damage from speccing for survival by keeping a lot of boons on themselves at all times. It’s not fool-proof, though. It requires a modicum of player skill in order to make actually effective. Countering it requires keeping track of their cooldowns, trying to trick them into using their heals when it’s not really necessary and then smacking them with some CC and going to town.

Not sure what the complaint here is really about. In all honesty, like Mr. Sharp in the state of the game, “this is simply an L2P issue.”

D/D ele’s have one of the EASIEST bursts to avoid in the game. As a matter of fact, I was dueling Skovex (on his warrior) and because he had such an in-depth knowledge of D/D, he knew exactly what to do, and when to do it. He simply avoided every burst I put out, and only let me put out some sustained damage in between.

A weakness to D/D ele’s? Do not get kited. Play in his face, don’t let him gain some distance on you and pop burning speed. BE more aggressive than the ele.

Bare in mind, that when you say something is OP, you should also have a high amount of knowledge of that class. Most people speak blindly. You get demolished by one, so it must be too strong. I have to work HARD in tournies to get my damage off, and even then, it’s not always reliable.

D/D is strong in the right hands, but it can also be extremely weak in the wrong hands. Just like any other class. In my opinion, I think ele’s are right where they should be. I think other classes should be brought up to have a higher skill-cap and not be able to do tons of damage to someone in a couple button presses.

And to the OP, either you didn’t avoid the RTL/Updaft/Burning Speed/Ring of Fire combo, or you didn’t avoid Churning Earth. Which means you need to tone up your reflexes a bit there sport. Cause that right there is 90% of an Ele’s burst.

There is no complaint here, we are just talking about a specific class and everyone giving their humble opinion that’s all.

I’ve already said that i gave the guy props for beating me couple times in the same game , i am not world number one i will not win every fight; the only shocking thing was the damage he put out and that it was pretty high against a 3100 armored class that all, consider me a dummy standing still and him not a glass cannon build cause he was half health after all my bombs and condition damage, he killed me pretty fast… (i rarely lose against thiefs and warriors and managed to live multiple times against 2-3 classes targetting me at the same time)

ohh and i was able to beat many dd elementals easily btw so i accept the fact that that was a good player but i would say that it is also pretty hard to balance all burst classes in this game..

I personally play D/D ele as my main PvP profession. I almost never lose 1v1s and usually down someone than die in a 2v1. Most other eles I fight are (not being offensive, just honest) really bad. Their traits aren’t in sync with their utilities or their play style or their amulet.

I went 1v1 with another D/D ele that was fairly good. I still beat him as a result of the difference in skill levels. But when I played a Confusion mesmer with the right utilities, I lost over and over and over again. No chance. I also regularly 1v1 my Survival ranger friend, and no matter how perfectly I execute my ~9 skill burst, landing each skill and critting on some, I can’t kill him. Also, I play against my guild leader every once in a while, and those are the fights I love. He’s the standard Sword/Shield and Greatsword spec, but he’s good with it. Sometimes I beat him, sometimes he beats me. It’s really all skill and the build against it.

For the Bach comment above, it’s true. But the difference is warriors and mesmers can burst much more often than eles. Eles main dmg is from fire skills, burning, and churning earth. For fire skills and burning, you gotta be up close to your enemy. A simply dodge roll will get you to safety from a fire burst. Churning earth: if you can’t evade that when you have 50% endurance, no wonder why you’re losing.

Weakness: Confusion, enemy survival, condition after condition removal and switching from Water Attunement
Strength: Nice burst, nice kiting, great survival

That’s my 2 cents.

Let me get this straight; i dont know if you read all my posts but i believe you didnt cause i said that i am doing great against all burst classes including thieves and warriors but you are implying than i cannot kite an ele?:)

D/D eles are, along with mesmers, one of the best duelists you can have. It does take some skill to perform well with however.

The only tip I can really give is try to limit their movement by throwing a lot of CC their way. This will make them blow their Cantrip utilities to break out typically, then just wail on them as hard as you can.

Most D/D eles run a balanced build, which offers moderate offense with high healing power, lots of stun breaks and condition removal. These guys are still vulnerable to burst.

Others seem to be running a glass cannon type ele. I like to treat them like glass cannon thieves, avoid their opener and try to kite them down. Remember, they have gap closers, but no good ranged attacks.

thanks for all the tips but the reason i made the post is, i am pretty good in avoiding attacks and kiting, i got all kinds of survivability options and i can easily kill thieves because i have nearly 3100 armor and a lot of power and condition damage… the thing was, this guy was kinda over the top i even thought if he was cheating in some way because of the insane damage he put out.. but i guess not so i used 2-3 different kinds of kiting options and i kept doing damage with my bombs (all took like 10 seconds) but the moment i was out of options he killed me right away and he was more than half health so he cant really be a glass cannon tbh, that was also kinda weird…

There are some high rank burst oriented ele’s that have turned my world upside down, and I play a d/d ele. I don’t know how they do it. I thought I was good until I faced a couple of these guys.

definitely the same, its shocking because i faced nearly all classes, rogues cant even damage me even good ones struggles because of my toughness and speed.. but this ele was straight forward as if i dont have any toughness at all; i give him the props too he was good but the damage he inflicted was pretty insane…

i have an engineer and i am having a blast with it, i never lost one vs one this obvious since i faced this dagger elemental. i won so many duels but they were always close and fun since i faced this dagger elemental fellow; i have all kinds of survival options and a lot of damage with bomb kit and i am better when i face melees because of bomb kit( i even managed to kill multiple opponents when i am alone many times) but this guy destroyed me in like seconds, many of my abilities were on cooldown but i think they are(dagger elementals) a little bit over the top or maybe i am wrong what do i know?:)) you faced any good?

If you build tanky, a Thief will probably be your easiest overall matchup 1v1 unless they are running a condition build. Rifle is your friend against both warriors and thieves, for no other reason than #3 followed by #4 for the knockback.

Flamethrower is good, but it’s sometimes hard to get those particular professions to stand still long enough for you to get all the burns off you want. I tend to gravitate back towards Toolkit because it usually dispatches of thieves pretty easily, but only if you trait for it.

Toughness makes a HUGE difference against particularly Thieves, but it all depends on the number. I’ve learned that just getting toughness doesn’t mean as much as trying to hit that key amount… I think around 2700 armor is a good balance overall, and you’ll notice a lot of burst negated, not to mention, there are two traits in the first 10 of Toughness/Vitality that let you get protection buffs pretty regularly to also deal with this.

To the OP, these forums tend to be pretty aggressive overall, I’ve played Engineer as my main for around 600 matches now because it was a challenge and fun but still a very good class… 600+ as guardian, about 30 as Thief and Warrior. PST me if you want to trade any ideas or advice.

I somehow never saw that post, so I’ll take that back, but it did seem like you were overall doing that to others comments.

Well i dont think i was; two things would have been helpful here, constructive critisism and suggestions like your post in which i thanked for but these people didnt do neither, i am open to discussions thats why i am here but if someone says you are not good enough to play an engineer before getting all the facts straight than i would disagree thats all. The point of the post is toughness and its effectiveness no need to attack people with so called help.

Engi is perfectly viable. I mean this in the nicest way possible but if you are having trouble on an engi in sPVP it’s you not the class.

And you are exaggerating horribly. Hammer (which is presumably what you’re talking about – mace dps is even lower) doesn’t kill people in two blows and warriors don’t kill anyone in anywhere near 2 seconds without quickness.

Quickness has a massive cooldown and a short duration. If you use all your escapes before they use quickness you can expect to probably die.

I wish they would remove quickness but if they did honestly you would just get pwned faster with the way you play because the classes would be buffed otherwise and if you refuse to learn to use active defenses to avoid burst effectively you are going to die either way.

You might be right but that is the reason why 80 percent of the people has a thief or a warrior as a main, easy to kill easy to play with, i also have a warrior and with a swing of my mace i slam 6 people down and kill them with another blow it is fun but if engineer and other classes are not viable than the game will be very one dimensional soon.Its not like i never killed a warrior but I have fought with a decent warrior , he jumped at me and i evaded the main furry attack than rooted him and i took him to half health than he jumped at me again when my abilities were on cd and i was full health and i was down in literally 2 seconds that shouldnt be happening when i have 2k toughness thats all i am saying because i lost on my offensive numbers to get that stat.

If you are fighting a quickness class and you let them quickness burst you you will lose most of your health in 2-3 seconds. That is just the way the game is set up right now. There is no solution. No class can tank a quickness burst and not die very fast.

The counter to quickness burst is active defense. Wait for them to pop quickness then use use a block or a dodge or a teleport or something like that to get out of the way.

Trust me m8 this game is better than what you described and should be, if what you said is true and a quickness class can kill everything in 2-3 seconds than i am correct on making this post:) that is also means that stats doesnt make any difference.

Well when you use shield, you get 90 extra toughness but with flamethrower you get 200 extra toughness… eventhough i wanna agree with what you say, holding a shield doesnt give you enough protection; thats why I decided to go with flamethrower build, when the melee is on me i swith on the flamethrower which is more efficient than a shield but i get bursted down in 2 second, that’s unaccaptable with the toughness numbers that i have on imo..

You do not roll a certain weapon or utility just for the stats, but because of the tools it gives you, with the flamethrower you only get air blast to keep warriors away but with shield you get a protection against projectiles and a knock back with #4 and a stun or daze with #5 so shield > flamethrower for a tank build and to tell you the truth the flamethrower sucks I know alot of people like it but it just suck in spvp and if you want you could try the tool kit! except for its auto attack which is kinda useless, it gives you cripple, bleed, confusion, 3 second block, and a 1200 range pull!

P.S. toughness isn’t that good so an extra 200 won’t do anything (you need like 500 to see a difference)

So i guess you get my point this time, i am saying that toughness should be more efficient because thats the only stat you get defence from so considering this game doesn’t have any dedicated healers or tanks, every class should be able to tank or heal efficiently when geared accordingly, thats all i am saying

Again like the guy above said that the game isn’t about passive defense so you need to use what you have to help your Engi survive, use med kit and bomb heal trait with bomb kit + use the trait that gives you regeneration when using a kit so this way you’ll have almost constant regeneration. And as I have said you could go to an empty server with a friend and test various builds and use whatever suits you!

Guy you dont get it do you? i played a game called tera in which you get away or dodge every attack you face if you are skilled enough, this game is not like that, you have stats that gives you buffs, you have only 2 options to dodge attacks and if you are out of endurance none, so dont tell me about passive defence bs, we have stats and we make builds accordingly if they dont make any difference than they are useless thats all.. i use all the engineering utilities and they are great thats why i said i love my engineer but if i wanna be more tanky and the game gives me that option with stats, i should be able to. I am not sayin stats should do everything like in wow but toughness equal to defence and i lose offensive stats to get it so it should help.

This game isn’t about passive defense. If you try to spec in such a way that you can sit there and take damage passively you are never going to do well because the game isn’t set up that way.

i am not saying i should stand there and eat all the damage for like 10 seconds, all i am saying is when you are toe to toe with a melee class you should be able to hold your ground for 2-3 seconds to get away again but if you lose your health in 2 seconds than whats the point of having toughness at all??

Well when you use shield, you get 90 extra toughness but with flamethrower you get 200 extra toughness… eventhough i wanna agree with what you say, holding a shield doesnt give you enough protection; thats why I decided to go with flamethrower build, when the melee is on me i swith on the flamethrower which is more efficient than a shield but i get bursted down in 2 second, that’s unaccaptable with the toughness numbers that i have on imo..

I know all of those Same m8, i didnt ask for help here; i am open for discussions and i agree that engineer has all kinds of utilities to get away but i said that i am on a tank build with 2000 tougness, i like to be able to hold my ground a little on a fight so i guess you missed the point there but overall as i said before even if you are the best kiter you will get caught eventually during a fight if most of your utilities are on cd so the idea of the post is about (sorry to say this but) either making toughness more efficient or nerfing the burst damage of some classes..

Weird warriors and guardian can never kill me in 1 on 1 while on my engi you wanna know why? Because Engis are the best CCers in this game, you only need to keep them away using your arsenal:
-Skills #2 and 4 with tifle (when traited you get 20% less CD so you could always use them after 8-15 seconds)
-Battering ram (warrior got close and personal? just launch your hidden ram and then cripple with the toolbelt skill)
-using flamethrower? Air blast (then by this time you can use #2 and 4 on rifle again)
-elixir gun has acid bomb to get away then criple with #2
-rocket boots and slick shoes
-warrior knocked you down and is about to use frenzy +HB? easy, elixir S.
-want more dodges? you can trait to get 50% more endurance regeneration and use elixir R (refills endurance and breaks out of stun so you can basically do 4 dodges in a row!)

You can always go on an empty server in pvp with a friend and test counters to warriors and thieves and I encourage you to do it and test all of your skills and utilities.

the whole idea is to be able to hold my ground for 2-3 seconds because even if you are the best kiter you will get caught somewhere during a fight, i am doing pretty good against most of the classes but when a warrior or thief use their quickness buff i shouldnt lose all my 20k health in 2 seconds as if i dont have any defence on with light armor thats the issue because i am on a tanky build with 2 k toughness …
