@Gohlar
I’m sorry, I must have been confused, you seemed disgruntled, I assumed you were having difficulties with the dungeons… And no, running dungeons the “right way” is not getting killed a lot.. once you know how to do a dungeon, you SHOULD be able to do it, with perfect execution, without dying at all.
You say it has shallower classes, I’m not going to go in to class structure. You also say that I’m pretending that “addition by subtraction is good”. I am not saying that.. I am telling you that there is no subtraction… I am saying that all people perform all roles.. and THAT is awesome.
The fact that every class can fill every role is a horrible thing. I’ve never felt so….generic in a mmo, ever. Homogenization at its worst.
Don’t go to or read the official forums.
Good Bye!
It’s so funny how people mock the desire for outlandish weapon art and effects. As if liking more realistic and mundane art makes one a more sophisticated, mature player.
The bigger, outlandish and sparkle the better. It’s fun.
The DR has really taken the fun out of the game for me. I mean, its a farming game. That is endgame. At best, I log in for 30 mins, farm something I need, logout. Done for the day.
I’ve never played a mmorpg that was so….irrelevant.
I find myself looking for a mmorpg. I forget I even have it on my computer.
Yeah, took me a bit to figure that one out. But setting a trigger button to change the function of one of your joysticks from mouselook to cursor fixed that for me.
So you can’t turn the camera and target the ground at the same time? I’m trying to imagine how awful this would be for a grenade oriented engineer…
Haven’t tried it with an engineer. I think you are right. It would be difficult.
Not impossible, but more trouble than its worth.
You would have to juggle the toggle to switch between mouselook and cursor. Can be done, but would it be worth it? lol. Maybe to some.
In all my years of mmorpg playing I never thought a gamepad would be practical for the genre.
I hooked up my PS3 dualshock gamepad to my pc, and it’s amazing. I would swear it’s like the game was made for it.
Worked great with every class. The actiony combat just works so well with it. I’m untouchable now.
I was a “purist”, but now I encourage others to give it a try.
As a matter of fact, I need you too. sPVP and WvW isn’t a challenge for me anymore. My reaction times are just too fast to feel challenged.
lol
And then someone comes a long that is not challenged by a M/K setup (like most aren’t) and steamrolls over you and your gamepad. It is nice for you that you can finaly handle pvp but you are still at the short end of the stick.
I would agree in any other mmorpg. I always laughed when someone said they were using a gamepad for the game. lol.
But with the limited skills, and action combat. It just makes sense. And those with the know-how can set it up to be ultra responsive.
I get what you are saying. It’s just simply not true for GW2.
In that case i would just loove to see this on youtube and see how well you do with that in sPvP,that would really convince people, more so then some thread.
I’m not flexing my kitten. Let someone else do that.
That is a sudden change of tune there

I could have sworn you would be proud to show it to everyone after hearing that claim.
I wanted everyone to know the difference it made in my reaction times. I was hoping it would do the same for others. My comment was made to encourage, not inflame.
Camera movement as well as ground-targeted abilities have kept me from trying controller.

K/M are a must for mmorpg gameplay. Anything else is sub optimal. Until GW2. It’s not a slam against GW2.

I was thinking of trying this given the limited number of skills.
Would you mind sharing how you mapped the keys (x button = action 1 or whatever)
You’ll have to find what works best for you by experimenting.
I have different profiles for different characters. For instance, my elementalist requires me to set a button to toggle the right joystick to switch from mouselook to mouse cursor. For the aoe abilites.
But for my thief, its more simple.
Left joystick is= up, down, strafe right and left.
Right joystick= mouselook. Once you use Xpadder, its easy to see how to set this up.
Dpad= Now, I use this for my 7-0 abilities. Some use if for map, charcter etc.
X, square, triangle and O= I have set up jump, attack 1, attack 2, attack 3. In that order.
R1 and R2 Trigger= I use for attack 4 and attack 5.
Start= heal
Select=Switch weapons
L1 and L2= is F1 ability and Target closest enemy.
L3= dodge
R3= F. (interact)
Now, some use a trigger button to toggle the X, square, triangle and O buttons to use the 7-0 abilities. I don’t.
you will need to use a button to toggle for mouselook on the right joystick so you can move the cursor for classes that need to target attacks that way.
hope that helps a bit.

Nvm reading up on it I take back what I said it is no where near the effectiveness of mouse keyboard strafe power fast turning etc of m/kb
So wrong. With Xpadder I can speed up mouse look. You can adjust the responsiveness of everything. And setting left and right to strafe works amazing.
But use what you are comfortable with.
It was surprisingly easy.
First you have to do a search for the driver. Windows will install one, (and let it do so). You’ll need to go back and find and install a driver called dualshock3.inf.
It’s easy to find. Then simply find and download Xpadder. It lets you setup keyboard and mouse functions to the gamepad.
Now, when I was looking into doing this, I read that a program called MotioninJoy was needed for the gamepad to communicate with your PC. I couldn’t get it to work, but just having the driver and Xpadder works for me.
Here is a video I watched that got me started.

To answer your question, because they do. Not much more reason than that. They have only a few ways of taking money out of the game, this is one they have chose.
It’s a done deal.
IMO, its not really that expensive. A few silvers is all. Waypointskitten me off more than anything else.
Some times you also have to realize players are idiots. What we sometimes want, isn’t what we need.
Everyone wants everything easy. Who wouldn’t? But easy means trivial. And trivial means nothing has any meaning. And a game that is just a gimme is boring and soon forgotten. Waypoint cost make you think. How important it is to get there, how the best to go about it. Trait points are the same. Gives meaning to your choice. Repair bills give meaning to death, rewards good skills and strategy. Punishes meat heads.

Congratulations.
It is sad that some people still blame GW2 for not having holy trinity as if it wasn’t advertised before that the game won’t have holy trinity. I think only unskilled players need holy trinity since you don’t have to do anything else but only one, single action (dps, tank or heal people) while in GW2 you have to dps, tank yourself as much as you as well as your group if you’re playing with that kind of build, heal yourself and your group just a little bit, dodge and other stuff.
This game is a good one.
Oh, I think calling those you like trinity play “unskilled” is a bit harsh. Maybe just different skills.
I also find that alot of my hardcore pvp friends really like pve in GW2. They say the pve is the most like pvp they have ever seen in a mmorpg.
So maybe the pve appeals to the pvp’er moreso in GW2 than in any other mmorpg to date.
Hence the dislike of the mechanics from the usually pve crowd.
Meh.
I haven’t had this problem. I have never even really looked at my level, other than to check gear. I surprise myself to find that I’m a couple levels higher than I thought.lol.
If you are doing heart quests, repeating DE’s at least twice, farming for crafting mats and crafting, I can’t imagine how you are underleveled. I’m always over. Baffling.
Meh. Seems like most either love or hate the trinity.
I like both. This is fun, and the trinity is too.
Exploring is there if you want it. Finding hidden things is part of the fun. Not everyone likes this. That’s why it’s optional. Like so many other aspects of the game.
Yeah, the bugged stuff needs to get fixed, for sure.
But I couldn’t even call it exploring if all that was required was to simply walk from point A to point B. How boring is that?
When I hear someone say “grind” in a negative way when referring to a mmorpg, I can tell they are just in the wrong genre.
There are lots of mmo’s out there that you would like better, for sure. you even named a couple.
Take a look at what you said you disliked about GW2. A mmorpg. Those are core mechanics of the genre.
You may like mmo’s. You DON"T like mmorpgs.
There, you learned something about yourself.
I’ll thank them when they remove the ridiculous anti-farm code that only really affects legitimate players. The farmers and botters already have a way to completely circumvent the system. I can think of one way in which this system is actually more beneficial to them.
I’ll thanks them when I can go to a lower level zone and have level appropriate loot drop and scale my costs to the zone I’m in. Instead, right now, I’m paying level 80 costs for everything, no matter what zone I’m in without any reasonable way to balance my wallet. Otherwise I am fine with getting slightly less rewards from DE’s in lower levels.
I’m ok with everything about the game except:
- levels scale, but not cost and loot
- anti-farm code penalises a legitimate playstyle that their own design encourages
- fix the ridiculous amounts of broken DE that can’t be progressed/completedOnce those are done, the game will really be a gem. While those linger, it’s a severely cripple experience.
I agree with all this. Yet there are those that want to change the game at it’s core. Turn it like so many other mmorpg’s out there, and like the many more on the way. I like having something different. Even if it’s not my #1 favorite niche in the mmo genre. It can still be good, and it is. Once all the bugs are fixed anyway.
Yeah, its different. Almost too much for some. They are so used to carrot-on-a-stick gameplay.
Playing for fun? pfft! What a waste of time! Wez meh lotz?!?!?!
I love holy trinity group mechanics, love deep character progression, deep character develpment. Love carrot on a stick gear grinds.
But I like GW2 as well. It’s a different game. And I’m cool with that. It’s nice to have another option. No sub. A great second game for when I find a grinder mmo.
As I said in another thread. You have to see GW2 for what it is. Not what you thought it was, or what you wanted it to be.
The casual gameplay turns some people off. The freedom in character builds, freedom in gameplay options (how you chose to spend your time ingame) confuses some.
It is what it is, and it may not be for everyone. Don’t waste your time trying to turn the game into something it’s not.
I get that too. I had to change my mindset. This isn’t that game.
I have to see GW2 for what is it, not for what I thought it was, or what I wanted it to be.
Character progression and character development aren’t big in GW2. I love those things, but I find that I still enjoy GW2 in a casual, social way.
You are done. And for the record, the forum community isn’t the game community. I’ve had only the best experience with others ingame. Amazing, really.
GW2 is a game played for fun. Not goals. It’s odd, I know. Hard to get used to.
Why should I continue to play? If you can’t think of a reason, you are done.
I, for one, have plenty left to do. Help friends, work on legendary’s, work on alts. Tons.
More to the point, for you, is that GW2 doesn’t offerYOU the gameplay you want. I get that. It’s cool. Time to say when.
I say NAY to the powelevelers. Let them focus on fixes and balance.
I can expect to wait as long as 3 months before seeing new content in a mmo. 3 months is how long it takes for 90% of the players to get to the point you are at.
I miss the trinity too. I miss healing gameplay.
This isn’t that game. I don’t expect everygame I play to be the same. Who would want that?
Funny thing, My old Core2Duo system with a crappy nvidia GTX 250 vid card out preforms my friends cutting edge rig in GW2. I have NEVER had video issues, no disconnets and fps is 40-50 soloing, 25-30 on boss fights. Medium settings.
And yes, I like to rub it in his face. I wanted to get one more mmo out of this rig, and he spent a TON on a new comp for GW2. Mwhahahahaha.

Honestly, my only complaint with the characters abilities is the lack of skill trait switching when we change weapons. Seems like it should.
My main is a thief, ok.
I can go dagger/dagger and with the right skill traits have aoe madness and barely get touched.
I can go pistol/pistol and with the right skill traits drop them like flies and barely get touched.
I can go pistol/dagger and with the right skill traits pop in and out of stealth using combos, barely getting touched.
I can go sword/pistol…
This is unacceptable. Too many viable builds for all the professions. To many ways to match someones playstyle. I expected more out of you Anet. Get it together.

Please help with this. I would like to be able to join a guild.

The issue is self control.
No, I’m not one of the power levelers. I have a level 70. That’s pretty much it.
It’s just the time ingame allows for no error.
Maybe it’s not that the game is too hard for me, but maybe just too hard to be fun.
I love the game, but I find myself not wanting to log in.
I think it’s a kinda raider fatigue. Took be awhile to figure it out. The combat is so tactical that I get burned out. Like the WHOLE game is a dungeon crawl.
I guess I miss mindless open world combat, with intense dungeon combat.
Maybe no “downtime” is what is the issue is.
I agree with all of these points. All of them. Yet I still manage to enjoy the game.
I think maybe I judge GW2 by it’s own standards, and not to another game?
Maybe its the feel of combat. Maybe its the community (great one, btw).
It may not be my “main” mmorpg for years to come, but it will be in the rotation for sure.

The code in the title is the code error i get when I try to join a guild. Any help would be appreciated.

Don’t you think your skill traits should change when you switch weapons?
God, that would be awesome.
So I have an old computer. I’m trying to get ONE more mmo out of it.
I have:
Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz
4GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 (yikes)
I get 20-30 FPS soloing, less than 15 during any event. Doable, but I want better.
I’m not so savvy on hardware, but what I was hoping was to get suggestions for a better video card that wasn’t overkill for the ancient processor. A card it could handle. A under $200 card. Not spending bigtime on this clunker.
Any suggestions? I’d be most grateful.
