Mastery points in Gem store

It’s no less different than level 80 boosters. Anet has spread out masteries too thin among all types of content. This is creating a situation where people run into impasses for mastery points. I don’t do raiding, WVW, PVP, complex metas, older content that no one is doing anymore, fractals and so forth. I’m don’t want stuff given to me, but at the same time, I don’t want to be forced to play types of content that I don’t like.

If Anet added more content type masteries then that would be great, but they haven’t. So throw them into the gem store for those that need one or two more mastery points.

Lets open a new wanted feature: Housing

ArcheAge is a cautionary tale of what happens when you have proper housing on land that cannot handle the demand. Let’s be honest, land for housing is nonexistent in GW2 due to map size. It would be impossible to do it at a level that games like Asheron’s Call or Ultima Online were able to achieve. Besides players do have housing districts and Guild Halls. Perhaps Anet could add a proper player house to the home district.

Mastery points in Gem store

I’m at an impasse where I can get more mastery points, but it requires doing content I don’t want to do like raiding, WVW, PVP, complex metas, older content that no one is doing anymore, and so forth. Back in Guild Wars 1 people could buy skill packs. It didn’t change the scope of the game. It just allowed players access to elite skills that would be otherwise difficult to obtain.

Could this work for mastery points in the gem store?

Good idea Korval

Thanks

There’s money in everything. The question is: what does it cost to make this available in the first place? I think we underestimate that cost substantially, because we can’t see the bits that make this difficult.

If I had to venture a guess for how GW2’s Database is setup, they likely segmented different aspects of player’s character into several tables. So, for example, you have class, class_attributes, build_attributes, armor_race, personal_story_choices, inventory, currency and so forth. Most of the fields in these tables would likely be simple bit types (meaning true or false).

So it would not be impossible to believe the programmers created “Creation” methods (also known as functions) that turn these bits true based on the player’s choice. These same methods could be repurposed (the process of copying methods for a different albeit similar purpose) to handle Race Changing. So going from Norn to Human would only involve setting the Norn bits from true to false, and setting the Human bits from false to true. Yes, I understand this is basic, but the idea just implies cloning these methods to set the appropriate bits.

Hope that wasn’t too technical. I’m a professional web developer and programmer, so I looked at it purely from that perspective. Obviously, an MMO is a ton different than an e-commerce website, but the principle of both submitting, storing, and retrieving data from tables within a database is the same.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Racial-Changes/first#post6701264

Hi, Gaile, and other community members.

This request may at first appear far-fetched, but I’ve given it thought. Please, give it a read through. Thank you!

So from the get-go I understand the complexity this entails with the personal story, so I have suggestions for how to handle it.

1. Changing races remain locked as a Gem Store purchase until players reach Chapter 8 – Victory or Death. This limitation would not be an account unlock, rather character unlocks. The reason for this is the personal story begins as a complex branching diagram of choices up until Chapter 8. As far as I know, once players reach Chapter 8 – Victory or Death, this becomes the same linear experience for all players. I thought by this point changing races would be feasible because this would not impede the final personal story episode.

2. As far as how to handle Chapters 1-7, they can remain locked entries much like Season 1 of the Living Story. While the wording may apply to the player character’s previous race, it only becomes a foot note going forward.

So in quick summary, the option to purchase racial changes:
1. Remain locked until a player’s character reaches Chapter 8. Huge incentive to do the content.
2. After changing races, Chapters 1-7 of the personal story will not change, and remain the original race’s progress.
3. Bonus: There is a 72-hour waiting period after changing races. (Inspired by WOW’s race changes)

Does this sound doable?

The other night, I was perusing gw2style.com and found I cannot create many because a particular item is unavailable in the gem store. I would be more than happy to buy gems with cash-money to make gem store purchases of returning items.

I solod this and finished it on my first try with my scrapper, no bugs that i saw, just challenging story content, which would be cake walk if you party with others, people just need to up their game.

It is not a cake walk. You kitten well know it so don’t lie. The encounter is an absolute mess and poorly designed.

It is a very nice chaotic fight. l2p. And I played on engi not alot of stab there. GW2 is getting more difficult, and has been since HoT. And most ppl like it!

I’ve played MMOs since 1999. Raided in WOW. LOTRO. Asheron’s Call. You name it. I can say based on YEARS of MMO boss fights: this is the worse. There’s no sense of progression or organization. The clear indication of this are the overlapping telegraphs happening all over the place coupled with the size of the room making camera use virtually useless. I truly hope Anet never designs a boss fight like this. It was terribad.

The Head of the Snake fight

Korval.3751

@OriOri – it’s still ridiculous. No amount of nerfing is going to fix the fundamental issue of the room’s size. For the amount of crap happening in that encounter, the room needs to be double the size. The walls also need to be higher so that the camera can be used correctly. Anet has many amazing boss encounters. This one is a low point for the franchise. Hoping Anet up their game and ensures boss fight like this don’t exist.

The Head of the Snake fight

in Living World

Posted by: Korval.3751

Korval.3751

That fight is probably one of the worse boss fights I have experienced in ANY MMO since 1999 (that list include Asheron’s Call, Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, SWTOR, LOTRO, WOW, and many others).

- Room is WAY too small for the mechanics
- Way too much random telegraphing happening on the floor
- Overlapping telegraphing (from boss and mobs)
- Ridiculously hard boss assistants (Vet Jades are not regular mobs. They hit hard and make it hard to solo)
- Worsening damaging (every downed state nerfs your character until the fight becomes super hard mode)

I don’t even know where to begin with this encounter. It’s a flipping mess on a grand scale.

Hey. Come on. Be nice. Perhaps, my reply did not specifically address the concerns expressed, but Amaimon did provide valid points. I do agree that when the map’s crowds die down, Anet should adjust the difficulty so that a smaller group can complete many of its objectives and achievements.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Korval.3751

I’m constantly getting lost in the HOT zones trying to find vistas and POIs. I would like arrows on screen like Tom Tom that point players in the general direction of waypoints, vistas, and POI whenever to get close to them. These arrows would only point you in the right direction; for example if you get close to a POI that’s above you an arrow appears pointing up. This is much better than the map indications; they’re too small and hard to read.

This is precisely why WOW is in the state that’s it in. Too many complained about things and so Blizzard dumb stuff down to point where people can faceroll content and get epic loot, and then there’s garrisons; a facebook game. Basically if you keep complaining Anet – in an attempt to keep people from leaving – is going to naturally dumb down the difficulty and then you’ll have a game WITH no difficulty.

Please don’t be that guy.

Solo players cannot advance in the new content, and any decent publisher would disclose such a fundamental change prior to taking your money.

If you’re referring to the story content; yes it’s solo. If you referring to the HOT zones; yes it’s solo in some areas, not so much in others. Before you make a blanket statement you should provide examples otherwise you sound like a typical entitlement scrub complaining things aren’t being handed to you on a silver platter. HOT isn’t Tyria. It’s MUCH harder. That’s because there are no level increases in GW2.

P.S. Do you know what happens when a developer listens to their audience requests to dumb down the content? You get Garrisons and World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor.

2) git help – many things u cannot do solo – get a hp train or ask for help or lfg.

Thanks ill try – i really want to have fun with hot!

Wait until you get up to the canopy bosses in Verdant Brink. So much fun! Really challenging boss fights. My absolute favorite is the Wyvern Patriarch on the Canopy over Pale Reaver Rally. It’s really challenging for several reasons:

- Compared to size of the Precarious Perch the Wyvern is huge
- the Wyvern has a wing buffet ability that can knock you off
- Minions will blanket the entire perch in fire forcing you to jump off and glide to alcoves and crevices to take out the minions

IMHO the best boss fight.

I love playing GW2 core. Its a masterpiece in many ways.

In HOT my typical experience is:
1) need mastery and hero points
2) find some on map i dont have yet
3) get killed on way to new spot
(Or killled when i get there)

I feel like a big chicken as i dash and run away from mobs
Only to get swarmed and eaten by a bunch of baby raptors.

What am i doing wrong? Does anybody find this fun?

Any advice would be appreciated as id like to enjoy hot.

Thanks
Gf

The problem I’m hearing is your gear is not up to par, and you’re running into a swarm of mobs. If so both need to be addressed. Rule #1, don’t rush your way to your objective. That’s a fool-proof plan to get yourself killed. Instead work yourself through the area. HOT wasn’t designed for that type of play. You have to be cautious and have situational awareness otherwise you’ll be destroyed. The Maguuma Jungle is a much harder area than Tyria proper.

They could also do something about the rampant HoT Meta events. Either most maps are empty and no one is around to do them, or plenty are around and no one wants to do them. I’m a casual gamer who hates grinding. The moment a game feels grindy I stop playing. I was disappointed by the grinding nature of the new mastery skills. I would rather play new content (even if it’s small) and see where the story goes instead of grind mastery points. The story is what I find most engaging about GW2. But, I understand. It’s a business decision to create raid content. Well, when they start expanding the story again I’ll be back.

Sorry to bump/necro my old post but I was wondering if anything like this could be possible in GW2 at some point?

Benefits:
1. Makes Champions fun and challenging
2. Adds a fun new way to obtain elite skills
3. There’s over 150 Champions with each having 3 specific elites class skills
4. Champions only pick and use one elite class skill per spawn meaning you have a 33% chance to get the elite skill
5. Signets of Capture are sold by General Merchants for 5g a piece and have an unlimited stack

Make old school content fun again like it used to be between GW2’s launch and until the end of season one.

Old style beta testing should be burn in hell. If you want feedback then get the feedback from the one who want to buy your game and who is playing your game.

Exactly. Someone like me. I actively buy gems and items. I actively make purchases in Guild Wars 1. I’m not only a fan and active player but I am also contributing to game’s financial health too in my own small way.

The reason I posted my application for Beta is based on an answer Mike gave PC Gamer http://www.pcgamer.com/guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-interview/

Mike: Well things are going to start happening really fast with the expansion pack. We are six weeks away from PAX East and Rezzed, and so people are going to be able to play the expansion pack for the first time in early March and then get into beta testing right after that. Of course, the live game will continue, so there are updates for the live game. But mostly right now we’re going to be focused on beta testing this expansion pack. We waited to announce this until we had the whole package together. The whole package is together and it’s coming up fast. Sitting down with players last night, talking about the expansion pack, of course the first words on everybody’s lips are “when?” The truth is, that all depends on beta testing. We are getting right into beta testing here and we will be playing the expansion pack with all the Guild Wars 2 players, and testing these very important groundwork systems that we’re building in. When the groundwork is there—when this is the foundation we’re ready for to build Guild Wars on top of for the coming years—that’s when we’ll release it.

March and April are going to be here before we know it. I’d really like to put myself out there and say I would love to offer my passed Beta testing experience for GW2’s first expansion.

7 MONTHS AGO… I WAS RIGHT! All of you bashed me for saying the sylvari are servants of Mordremoth. Now who has pie on their face?

I know what the pale tree is. The Pale Tree was suppose to be the Champion of Mordremoth but it became like Glint. All the servants of Mordremoth, namely the Sylvari, are the offspring the Pale Tree spawned not only to protect herself but also fight against Mordremoth. This is why the sylvari cannot be corrupted by other elder dragons. They are essentially owned by Mordremoth.

cough Abaddon cough Zaitan cough

Zhaitan was defeated. That’s not the same as being killed. He was basically neutralize but he’s not dead.

Abaddon isn’t an elder dragon. He was imprisoned and his life ended. His power went into Kormir who became the Goddess of Truth using a power that had been granted to her by the Five Gods.
