PVE Healing build

1. Given that I have 19,615 health I’m going to drop Valor > XI. Altruistic Healing. This build has a lot of health. If I die it’s probably due to A) bad luck or B) I was one shot (which Altruistic Healing probably wouldn’t heal through) or C) my group mates aren’t doing their job and pounding the mob to get their attention.

So in place of Altruistic Healing I have these option:

Honor > VII. Writ of Persistence
Honor > XII. Battle Presence

I’m trying to decide which is better?

With Writ of Persistence I get this:
- Increases symbol duration by 50%, rounded down; for example, Symbol of Protection will pulse 4 times instead of 3.

With Battle Presence I get these:
- Applies the Virtue of Resolve passive effect for 3 seconds, reapplying itself every 3 seconds.
- Has a radius of 600.
- Is affected by Absolute Resolution.
- Will remain in effect while Virtue of Resolve is on cooldown.
- No self-benefit

I’m leaning towards Battle Presence, but what are your thoughts?

2. I like the suggestion to change from “Stand Your Ground” to “Hold the Line!”. I initially chose SYG for the damage reflection. I thought this would be awesome. Instead what I found (now that I’m in a support role) is that most mobs don’t have a priority mechanic. Most of the time I am simply ignore even if I’m doing mass heals. Basically it’s like mobs have ADD. So “Hold the Line!” is it. Thank you. :)

3. I’m not going to care much about DPS. This build is sacrificing DPS in favor of keeping other’s alive to let them do DPS. I treat this like WOW. In WOW as long as the healer kept the tank alive the tank can then hold aggro thereby allowing the DPS to do their job. The holy trinity does not exist in GW2 but the principle is still the same. In this case I’m keeping the players alive so that they can tank and DPS.

4. That build looks good. Keep me updated with its progress.

5. In my DPS build (link in the first post) I found Signet Mastery works well if combined with Signet of Resolve and Renewed Focus. All three are a lot of healing. I would not use Signet Mastery in a healing build. Like Altruistic Healing it benefits self. My healing build has a lot of health. I’m more concerned with healing others and that’s why I go with Healing Breeze. With my build Healing Breeze heals for 600 health per second in an AOE field. If everyone is stacks everyone is healed for Healing Breeze’s duration. This makes it a very useful skill to have for any Guardian healer.

6. After telling the group I was in numerous times to stack on one mob or target Sanctuary became useful. It became VERY evident in path 3 of Ascalonian Catacombs for Hall of Champions’ burrows. The amount of adds was getting intense but I quickly told the group to stack on each mound. From there I triggered Sanctuary and dozens of mob bounced off the shield. Basically the key to Sanctuary’s success is to get the group to stack.

Because Right Hand Strength is probably one of the best grandmaster traits in the game and you will probably be using a scepter or mace at least some of the time, and that alone makes it worthwhile.

The only weapon that puts out the highest, consistent (consistency is really important) DPS for Guardians is Greatsword. Everything else is either healing or a flavor preference.

The mace is a weapon for healing and protection. Using the trait Valor > VII Mace of Justice grants 5% additional damage and up to 250 healing power while wielding a mace. Besides the trait you have these mace skills:

  1. Faithful Strike (chain 3) – Hit your foe with a final strike and heal nearby allies.
  2. Symbol of Faith – Smash a mystic symbol onto the ground that damages foes and regenerates allies.
  3. Protector’s Strike – Surround yourself and nearby allies with a shield. Damage foes that strike protected allies. Grant protection to yourself and nearby allies if you are not struck.

Needless to say every skill on a mace for Guardians is meant for healing and protection. A Greatsword has none of these type of skills. It’s pure DPS. If someone was keen on going with a one handed weapon for DPS then I guess a better solution would be sword. But I still feel Greatsword is the best for straight DPS.

I find that balanced builds tend to suffer the most. Because of the way stats appear on gear you really need to go full “tank” or full DPS. If you decide to go full melee DPS then check out my build.

Not sure you understood my post. This is about aesthetics my friend. Looks, armor, colors, weapon skins, armor skins. Not talking about RP. But for the record, I’ve got 3 level 80’s and have been playing since launch. In that time I’ve encountered quite a bit of RP. Regardless of how casual RP is, most people still think of their toon as a “character” they’ve created with it’s own name and backstory. To me, thinking of your toon as more than just a collection of pixels adds to the game.

Oh yeah sorry. I didn’t understand. If it’s the look of your guardian than may I suggest a combination of Flame Legion set and Hellfire achievement armor with either Abyss dye or the dyes from Flame and Frost (though these dyes are really expensive).

Here’s my Guardian. I think he looks very anti-hero! :

I’m doing CoF P1 and P2 ( i know, they don’t count much ) and FoTM (currently in lvl 19)

But, idk, i’m feeling kinda useless or too weak. This is because of two things i think:

1 – I have a ridiculous low health. With one shot from a boss in FoTM (the dredge champion) i get downed. I don’t know if everyone gets one shoted by this boss, this is normal? Also, normal mobs with 4 hits almost kill me.

It’s not so much your health. With my DPS build my health is 13,885.

What you lack is raw DPS. That calculator doesn’t list your Attack only Power (which is 1,992). My character’s unbuffed Power is 2,186 and Attack 3,286. Based on that your Attack is probably around 2,800. For FOTM you really want to be at or above 3k. If you can push it up to and past 3,200 then you’ll be sitting good.

The other thing I noticed is your build is virtually balanced between Power and Precision meaning your ranged DPS is about the same as your melee DPS. If you want to do lots of melee damage then you need to sacrifice and lower your Precision.

Feel free to check out my DPS build. It should help push you over 3,200 Attack.

I’m just about to hit level 80 and I LOVE this class. I usually don’t play “good” characters though as I’m drawn to a more demonic, netherworld vibe, and I like playing anti-heroes. While scouring screenshots of Guardians to get aesthetic ideas for armor, weapons, colors etc, I noticed that quite a few Guardians went the non-traditional route creating “Dark Guardians” or “Death Knights” or “Fallen Angel” types that were awesome. I’d love to see some other player’s Dark Guardians to get ideas for my own. I’m working on kind of a “Hellfire Knight” aesthetic. Post your screenshots! Total respect to the more traditional Guardians of angelic light and holy radiance sort of thing, but this thread is for the baddies only!

Guild Wars 2 isn’t a role playing game. There’s no dedicated role playing servers. When people main chat they talk OOC. Needless to say you can play any class you want in any way you wish.

SUMMARY

I have played a DPS Guardian since launch. People have said Guardian healing builds are useless. I wanted to see if this was true. After a day of trial and error I came up with the above build.

First this build is designed not to be expensive. My primary build is DPS and I don’t do healing often so I didn’t want to spend 15 gold on exotic armor and weapons. Instead I went for rare gear with exotic runes, sigils and jewels. Total cost: ~5G

I did all three paths of Crucible of Eternity and Citadel of Flame. I ran COE with a Chinese farming group. COE is very healing friendly. On the other hand P1 and P2 of COF was designed to be heavy DPS. COF P3 was where the healing build really helped especially at the part where a base in establish and your group needs to defend it against 7 waves of mobs. Through it all I was able to heals for large amounts. The Tome of Courage skill Light of Deliverance is really amazing. several members on the verge of being Downed were brought to full health. All in all this build did a very good job so much so that even the Chinese farming group liked it! They may take a Healing spec’ed Guardian on their next dungeon clear.

What helps most is if players stack on a single mob or the primary target. If players are spread out to far they won’t be able to benefit from heals unless I’m using Tome of Courage.

If this build helps please let me know.

Make FOTM level and AR account stats

in Suggestions

Posted by: Korval.3751

Korval.3751

I agree with the latest blog article about Magic Find. It did not make sense to have a separate set of gear with MF only or to sacrifice gear stats for MF. Great move Arenanet! In the same vein I think FOTM levels and Agony Resistance should also become an account stat and here’s why.

For the sake of example I have an 80 Guardian and 80 Necromancer. Both characters have exotic gear. Guardian carries a legendary; Necromancer does not. More FOTM runs were done with Guardian than Necromancer. Guardian is FOTM level 24 and has 20 agony resistance. My Necromancer is FOTM 3 and has 0 AR.

Now let’s say I am getting bored with Guardian. I would like to freshen things up and play Necromancer for a few weeks. The way FOTM works I cannot continue my progression at FOTM 24. I have start at FOTM 3 to level up, and since my Necromancer has no AR FOTM ~15-19 is likely the safest.

Do you see the problem?

I understand grinding is a major aspect of any game. Even single player games have grinding. I understand that. I define grind as being forced to do something that I’ve already done in order to reach a level or achievement I’ve already reached. If my Guardian is FOTM24 with AR20 then it seems reasonable that my Necromancer should also be FOTM24 with AR20. Which class I play in the current FOTM level should be my choice.

But “You won’t play well with your Necromancer in those harder fractals” you might say. You could be right but at the same time I will know immediately if I need to reschool myself on playing a Necromancer. Keep in mind you should not doubt a player’s level of knowledge even if they switch characters. Most players can play more than one class very well. Deciding which class to progress in FOTM should be decided by the players and not arbitrary rules.

The level of FOTM and agony resistance should become unlockable attributes for the entire account in the same way Hall of Monument and achievement rewards work.

Does this seem like a reasonable request?

1. Yes! Definitely. This would encourage players to start attacking Champions again. They’re found ALL over Tyria. There’s that Champ Ooze just outside Meddler’s Summit. No one attacks it. How much more so would people do it if they knew there was an elite skill waiting?

2. I like this idea. But instead of making it an elite skill make Signets of Capture available from any merchant for a fixed price. 5g a piece and account bound would work. 5g isn’t too high. This cost is doable for many level 80s who likely have lots of gold sitting around. This item also creates a new money sink.

3. Yup! Pretty much what I was thinking. Nothing more simple or satisfying than standing over a lifeless corpse taking their elite skill

4. Very cool idea!

I don’t think the new elite skills should be available from class trainers. They should be bound to Champions. The only way to get them is to either kill a certain Champion or buy an Elite Skillpack from the gemstore, which has the potential to become a good source of income for Arenanet.

A third of players will always prefer to go kill Champions exclusively for elite skills. A third would rather buy Elite Skillpacks and hope they get the skills they’re want. The last third would occasionally kill Champions and buy Elite Skillpacks. In all three cases Arenanet makes money, the gold-gem exchange remains healthy, and a new money sink creates more stability for the Tyrian economy. Think: if players are spending all their gold on Signets of Capture the price of legendary items may come down a few hundred gold or more. No doubt still high but now perhaps they’re within reach of a few more players.

Some more thoughts:

- When Champions spawn they randomly pick from a pool of Elite class skills. This will encourage players to return back to the same Champion. “It’s like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”

- Champions will use the randomly chosen Elite skill in their rotation. It will up the difficulty of many. For example the Champ Oak and Troll in Queensdale go down very fast.

- Adding a random elite skill to a Champion’s rotation will create a dynamic encounter. Let’s say a Champion randomly picks a new elite Mesmer skill called Crippling Anguish (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Crippling_Anguish). The fight dynamically changes to heavy control and ranged and less melee. The next time the same Champion spawns it randomly picks a new elite Necromancer skill called Discord (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Discord). The fight now becomes heavy healing like Claw of Jormag during the last phase with all the ice damage. Players likely will return back to fight Champions not because they want the elite skills but they like the random nature of the encounter.

- To keep players from farming each Champion will be assigned a pool of 3. You have a 33% chance to get a specific elite skill from a specific Champion. This, coupled with the 5g for a Signet of Capture, should strike a nice balance between creating fun accessible progression that will not feel like grinding. Nobody likes grinding!

Unlockable Elite skills, GW1 style

in Suggestions

Posted by: Korval.3751

Korval.3751

As a veteran Guild Wars 1 player (I still play) one of the things I love most about the game is the way you acquire elite skills! I LOVE THE TIME and in some cases difficulty! The process is involved. I have to buy a Signet of Capture for each elite skill I want for 1 platnum each. I then have to track down the mob, which is made easy with the official GW1 wiki. Finally I have to defeat the mob (who is generally surrounded by other mobs). After the target mob is dead I use Signet of Capture. I now have a brand new elite skill for my hybrid class!

With the announcement of New Skill and Traits I would like to propose bringing the way elite skills are acquired from GW1 into GW2. In a persistent environment the mechanic would have to be different for obvious reasons. Here’s how this could happen.

1. Visit a certain NPC to start an elite skill quest. These NPCs would be scattered all over Tyria and depending on the rarity or difficulty of the elite skill they would be placed in easy to reach places (Queensdale, Wayfarer Foothills, etc), medium to reach places (Malchor’s Leap, Frostgorge Sound, etc) and hard to reach places (Honor of the Waves, Arah, etc).

2. The NPC will give you a mission to complete some sort of objective (destroy, courier, escort, explorer, a mix of these or perhaps a brand new type). The objective would probably be a certain NPC. Think guild bounties.

3. Targets will always be found in either special instances or they may be instanced themselves to where only you and your group mates can see and interactive with them. You can bring your friends along if you would like help getting these elite skill quests done. Targets inside dungeons would always require groups.

4. After the mission is complete return to the NPC quest giver and you’ll be rewarded with a brand new ELITE skill… and perhaps some karma and coin for your troubles too!

And if for some reason players don’t want to trouble themselves to go get these elite skills they could buy elite skill packs from the gemstore. 5 Randoms Elite Skills for 400G. “Guaranteed not to contain duplicates.”

Does this sound like a good suggestion?

How about stop whining as a collective and be patient? It will happen when it happens

Some of us are clocking out of work to do this. This is seriously like “time is money”…

Post-patch: Moa Race Achievement still bugged

The achievement for Winner’s Circle only progresses if your moa wins 1st place. Moas that placed 2nd or 3rd will still give vouchers but will not progress that achievement.

Thank you for the clarification.

What about a difficulty scale? Single player games have offered this for decades, it allow people to see the story and for those who want more a challenge they can increase the difficulty. I’ve never understood why MMO developers don’t look to this.

It’s interesting you offer that suggestion because there is a difficulty scale in place for events. I’ve seen it happen. For example in Queensdale there’s the Beetletun escort event. I have done this event by myself. When the Centaurs show up there’s only 3-4 at most, however when I did the same event hours later with groups of players there were LOTS more Centaurs.

This same principle should be applied to Arah’s story mode. If one player would like to do the “dungeon” then the difficult should scale down to support one player. And if a group of friends would like to do Arah the difficulty should scale up to support more than one.

[Bug] Buying Gems

I chose the PayPal option to buy 800 gems. After entering my address a message came up stating it was going to redirect me (or something like that) to the PayPal process. Never happened. Rather the transaction appeared “successful” but after checking my email and PayPal.com there are no confirmation messages from either. What’s more the gem counter is now blank.

In 5 attempts half of the time I did not resurrect back on the platform next to teleport bot. Instead I fell all the way to the ground and died, forcing me to start over from scratch and losing my attunement. Please fix this. This is actually making the Jumping Puzzle uncompletable.

Edit: I just saw the note on the official GW2 Wiki: “As of 8th April, when you fall from any section, you sometimes will fall the entire way back to Metrica province, taking massive damage and ending up somewhere around the inquest complex in the north east. NOTE: You will have lost your Attunement when you fall to your death, so you will have to complete this section of the puzzle again.(on occasion, you will not lose your attunement.)”

Update: Worth noting, every time I fell to my death I lost my attunement.

[Bug] Looping animation

This is for the Renown heart “Help Crucibis Forgeweld run the armory and aid the charr weapon tests”

My character gets stuck in a looping animation when I try an pick Unexploded Mortar Shells. The bug comes from trying to pick up an Unexploded Mortar Shell while auto-running. This bug is reproducible. This is happening on many Renown Hearts. Please fix.

Edit: This bug is happening if I’m auto-running or not. It’s just a bug period.

Complete our personal story solo

I am personally glad that it is how it is. I would have been very disappointed if the big, bad, super-boss of the story that we’ve been told is super scary and super tough to handle were killed by just me and my lonesome. I was actually quite relieved that it required I find some other people to complete; it made the experience much more satisfying.

In my honest opinion Claw Island is PERFECT! It wasn’t too long. It felt epic. There were many but it was single-player. We need something like Claw Island, but way bigger, for the Zhaitan battle. I’m incredibly sad that after months of hard work I simply cannot finish my personal story, and by personal story I mean Trahearne’s personal story.

Will Anet EVER make arah 1 player?

I’ve gone through the entire personal story solo (and I really liked it). Along the way a few alternate dungeons popped up but they were never part of the main story so I was able to ignore them. At the final mission I was told that it is a 3 hour ordeal and its boring, although I think those two are personal opinions. I was also told it is a group encounter. Group? I feel like Anet sucker-punched me. Hours of time put in: the entire personal story was a solo experience from the beginning and then all of a sudden, at the final mission, it became a group experience? Why?

Anet should fix this.

- reduce the number of trash mobs and turrets in the Promenade of the Gods so that it is possible to run to the dungeon solo, or place a waypoint at Arah
- Make the personal story a solo experience; It MUST become a solo experience so that players can finish their personal story by themselves and not be forced to find others.
- Offer two modes for Arah: single-player or group-player
- Improve Arah so that it feels more epic and has an epic conclusion (I’m basing this on Youtube complaints I’ve watched).

Bugged on Jade Quarry

Victory or Death

in Personal Story

This needs to be fixed for all those who have worked very hard to get to it.

The final mission requires a group and 2-3 hours to complete. Up until this mission every mission has been solo. Another problem: the personal story marker sits at the very end of the Promenade of the Gods; a place that is virtually impossible to traverse solo without dying.

Here’s a bigger problem. On my server, Jade Quarry, no one assists the pact to carry the zone story forward. So it just lingers in a perpetual stalemate. There are simply too many mobs between Meddler’s Summit and Shank Anchorage that even with 3-4 players it’s not doable. You need about 10-20 players to make it work.

Since the crowds have died down tremendously could you please modify the difficulty in this area? Or at the very least make it so that players can finally finish their personal story… by themselves?

I just want to finish the final mission in my personal story by myself. I want to see Zhaitan die! But I feel like in the game’s current state this won’t happen because nobody wants to play it.

Please help Arenanet.
