You can also clear both hallways to the lovers then kite 1 to the lower hallway then back up the cathedral hallway and then fight he other one. As long as you don’t get to close, the other one should stay in the lower hall and you won’t need the door trick. You can leave a tank in the lower hall or a ranged to make sure Vassar or Ralena stay there too. They leash around the entrance to the lower door way.

Does healing power effect pet regen?

I have a ranger is primarily healing power, her own healing ability uses regen which according to the wiki is affected by her healing power, I also use the juvenile fern wolf as a pet. The regen the wolf gives say that I am the source of them (I also use boon sharing so many regen heals the wolf too), but my question is does my healing power effect the wolf’s regen? The wiki seems to suggest it doesn’t, but the in game regen the wolf gives names me as the source so I am not so sure. Would be amazing if my healing power does effect it’s regen.

Something all those YouTube videos need to get into is that speed running and skipping mobs are for experienced path runners. To many people see those videos and want to skip everything then make mistakes in a boss or at a mob and end up getting their group wiped trying to get back to where they left. When you start Arah learn the mobs and farm them. Next to fractals Arah has one of the most generous loot tables and really rewards good clean runs with ectoplasm ready rares and some excellent masterworks. The money is good and patience is a virtue, take your time and learn Lupi etc.

Hey Folks,

Me and my guild have been doing Arah recently and we ran into a problem tonight: we can not find enough people for path 1. Path 3 we can fill quite easily, but path 1 even with a gw2lfg.com post we could not find 5 people in the Singaporean time zone. So I thought I would post here and ask if anyone else in an Asian time zone needs Arah (I need paths 1, 2, and 4 for dungeon master) and would like to join us. We are noobs and don’t know all the enemies animations (we died several times fighting slimes in path 1 before figuring out they split into lesser slimes that have to be killed before they reunite into big slimes again) so if you need a noob group and would like to explore Arah with us leave a comment here. We are not a runner group, we clean trash mobs and move along carefully, expect each path to take upwards of 2 hours with bosses taking a few tries because we’re experimenting with mechanics. We are always learning, for instance using the f3 shatter on the risen that shoot the laser beams cancels the beams. We already know Lupi moderately well and do him at ranged, but if you want to melee and there for cancel his shadow walk you can. Primarily we want other people new to the path and not veterans who need a speed run. Had some awful experiences with “vets” who wouldn’t come back and help clean a path for some noobs. Not everyone has 20 hours experience in Arah and tanks builds.

Generally we try Arah around 7 pm Singaporean / Bangkok / Malaysian time. Group is heavy dps with two mesmerist and an elementalist. We have beaten path 3 numerous times, this isn’t for tokens it’s for fun and challenging builds.

McFang.7159 is the handle add me and I’ll add you. If you need help with any other dungeons and you’re in my time zone and on an American Server I can help too. We have completed every dungeon except Arah now.

The locked way points are fine, not having any problems except in cadaceusmmanor path 2 the way point is to close to enemies and hence if you botch a mob it becomes impossible for an entire party to way point and try again. Aside from that, Coe feels fairer now, sorrow’s embrace is still fairly challenging, but not overtly so, and over all things are better. It’s nice to see players Rez completely dead characters and has made kiting a much more important strategy.

Just finished an newbie Arah party (we made 4 attempts on Lupi and then disbanded)‘and got mostly masterworks. What’s really wrong with the dungeon is simply that Lupi needs a subtle tone down. Even after you know his animations and when to dodge it’s still really easy to get downed, toning Lupi down a notch (can grubs just give him life and not extra armor and damage?) would be a better idea.

Cool well I am glad we can share some ground and in my guild there are numerous elitists and stuff, but I still think it would e useful to me to have some type of measurement of dungeon abilities. I run new to dungeoners through dungeons all the time in my guild and being ale to rank and determine strengths and weaknesses would help a lot. The other day We did Ac with a level 28 who was still using a level 7 pistol for instance, so we waited while he black Lioned some new gear. Maybe losing a damage and tank reward (after all damage and tanks are what most people think of when it comes to dungeons) and rewarding good crowd control (necromancers!) or effective healing might bring out some other sides in the far to competitive world of dungeon running.

This is why:

Some stats at the end might be nice too, I would love to know who had the biggest hit and how much.

Player A: How much did you guys hit for, care to link?
Player B: random number
Player A: Lol noob are you only wearing rares? kick/block

Ummm…. Hmmmm not really. While braggarts are the norm in dungeons actually having a figure in front of you showing your performance in an area relative to another player is still useful. Player A sounds like a dick who wouldn’t even party with a noob to start with even w/o actual numbers demonstrating effectiveness at the end.

By the same token:
Player A: Wow player b did 15k with a critical hit?
Player B: yeah I [list of items] with maintenance oil and truffle steak
Player A: wow I’m going to farm those runes and had no idea huntsman could produce a buff that gives you +100 precision

I mean the fact that a negative use of the awards exist doesn’t guanrtee negativity in all cases.

Player A: wow you healed 50000 hp and protected me for over 20000 hits?
Player B: yeah I am primarily healing power [links to gear]
Player A: I’m adding you as a friend, let’s do Twilight Arbor together next week.

Showing the results of each player in a quantifiable way can produce positive results, while also making the contributions of support and disable players more apparent.

In regards to your link that happened with out tangible dungeon statistics.

I think this has been posted about before, but I wanted to get it out here.
I think it would really help if at the end of a boss or dungeon you got awards for your performance. Hence highest dps get a little medal, most number of critcal hits, most damage taken, least deaths (with the player who tanked the most getting it if no one was downed the entire dungeon), most boons given, best healer, best kiter, etc.
This would be similar to the awards in other online games for instance in Ghost Recon online you get an award for most head shots, best of a certain class, fewest deaths, most kills, etc. it would A. Help validate builds that aren’t just tank and dps and B. give some information on what your build excels at compared to others.. Some stats at the end might be nice too, I would love to know who had the biggest hit and how much. Using these stats dungeon rewards could be ranked and given out more quitably than just by chance. If the awards also gave a few extra tokens (maybe 2 per award) it would help incentive players to build dungeon runners in diverse and interesting ways, finally, mthe awards would just make dungeons more enjoyable, I’d love to see my ranger given credit for healing or boons, my mesmer for a truly catastrophic mind wrack, or my necro for most disabilities given. Making the mechanics of play more visible and congratulating people for helpful and useful builds would go a long way to making dungeons more awesome. I’d also to see races (challenge another player to beat your time at cof path 1), but that is for another time.

Other ways of earning loot drop credit?

Indeed, there is absolutely no evidence that your DPS affects the quality or rate of your drops, to anyt degree.

Doing enough damage is the only way to ensure that you get loot credit, though. It would be nice if reviving or removing boons during a fight counted toward the loot credit threshold.

As it stands soloing a Champion absolutely should get you a loot roll 100% of the time because you will have loot credit for that kill by definition. This is not working as intended at present, but hopefully fixed in one week!

When you say there is absolutely no evidence I have to disagree, bosses in dungeons drop money dependent on some type of ranking systems. At the end of twilight Arbor story mode for instance the destiny’s edge clones drop badges of honor, the number get varies greatly, but does seem to reward tank or high dps builds more than average builds which is fine, it’s just the system of how loot is awarded is still not as transparent as say the way credit in events is. We know that doing 10% damage qualifies you for a loot drop, but beyond that the mechanics of drops have yet to be mapped hence it is possible (and evidence favors this) that a ranking system is in place with dungeon bosses and dungeon competition too. The same might hold for dragons. The problem appears to be that builds that are heavily support based appear to reap fewer rewards.

They only track damage, this is a DPS game.

Are you serious ?…really, im asking, is this true ?

When fighting a horde of mobs with a zerg, spam your AOEs and tag mobs fast before they drop dead or you’ll cry because you won’t see any shining corpse lying on the ground after the waves of risen dissipated. :P

not true. In CoE stair case place, where a big mob runs if I, as a condi guardian, drop a fire circle and let enemies be tagged by it, almost all corpses shine.

Running the event chain to temple of Balthazar I get very few shiny corpses so I believe what was meant is in groups greater than 5. Dungeons only have 5 players max hence tagging and getting credit isn’t hard in a big open world Zerg quite often even a 3 clone shatter on a mob will rest in no loot, but I am not that concerned about that.

Damage, Loot, and the Trinity

Considering how most pugs in dungeons actually have no DPS and thus are not contributing to the fight, yet get the same rewards as those of us who are glass cannoning specifically to fill in for those people, I’d say the opposite needs to be true. In fact, loot drops should scale better with damage dealt, and it needs to be more obvious so people actually know they need to contribute.

A simple bronze/silver/gold reward upon killing a boss would be sufficient. Deal 10% of the boss’s maximum HP for bronze, 15% for silver, 20% for gold. Seems reasonable. Also, make it visible to all players in the party, so you can see who’s dead weight and who isn’t.

Really, please. I’m sick of being the only DPS in every pug.

Yeah we really need sats or rewards that tell us who is the best healer, the biggest boon giver, the most dps, the best tank, etc. with out these your group is left with little info on the quality of their build beyond token counts and Ctrl clicks in the hero panels which of course don’t include Mr. Has 25 stacks of might etc.

I actually was discussing the damage = loot problem this morning, the problem is we don’t actually know how damage interacts with loot if simply doing 1 damage to Jormag gives you the same chances of an exotic than say a glass canon or if the game has a second hidden ranking system which awards loot along those lines. Playing through dungeons seems to suggest dungeon bosses do rank players and award exp differently than the visible way events do (bronze, silver, gold). If damage is really the single major factor that decides drops from dragons and bosses ( we already know magic find affects champions / looted bodies) then the system needs extensive work because non damage builds are useful and often contribute massively to boss fights (giving group fury or Aoe heals can speed up dungeon times considerably).

Keep in mind that 25 stacks of might is +800 something damage and condition hence a warrior is not necessary, but the game does seem to rank and reward boss fights with variant levels of silver, exp ( my first run of Ac story yesterday was 8 exp at the end, my second Ac story in the same day was 10 exp), and other things. What we need is data on chest drops with damage levels and stuff like that.

But the question is, does doing more damage increase the chances of higher loot drops? Especially in the case of chests. I seem to see a high correlation between looting rares from chests and damage done to bosses. Or is it a binary that simply switches on or off and ones damage or other qualities in a boss fight have no effect on the chest’s contents?

… but loot rolls are binary. Based on how much damage you do you get loot or you don’t. It doesn’t give better loot to those who do more damage.

Not true at all…..ive soloed the champ boar, wasp queen and troll several times and received no loot at all.

Exactly, it might be that there is a threshold at which point a binary value is roled to determine if the champ drop loot, but the loot table itself is still percentage based hence even if you qualify for loot you might still not get it. Btw if damage does effect drop rates with champs and dragons and dungeon bosses that would also significantly increase the chances for high dps characters getting precursors and other exotic gear.

Are you sure about that? As was noted in the champ update event qualification and loot credit are different things. Hence getting gold at Jormag is nice, but are you sure that doing damage to him qualified you for the same chance of an exotic drop as someone who is all dps? I have not tracked it, but the game does seem to reward loot based on damage.

Laurel McFang.7159

I do a lot of Dungeon runs and noticed that when I run noob groups through Dungeons I often get a lot of rares, similarly in my guild I often play with an elementalist who does more damage than me, hence he gets the rares from the boss chests. Damage is the major means of earning loot credits, but as a system it rewards people for putting everything into offensive traits and not for healing power, survivability, condition duration, etc. if you spend most of a Jormag fight reviving people shouldn’t you get credit for that? If your healing power build provides a glass cannon with the regen and protection needed to survive a boss shouldn’t you get credits for this? How much does damage alone count towards loot drops? Do events keep track of how much you healed? how much damage you took? how many times you died? How many conditions you inflicted? How many deaths and revives? How many criticals? The number of successful dodges? Stealth? What is in the current loot drop credit system (it’s all damage from what I can tell) and how could it be expanded to validate less damaging play styles?

Btw number of booms given should definitely factor Ito loot dop.

Cadaceus Manor path 2 needs a new way point.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Laurel McFang.7159

Laurel McFang.7159

Hey folks,

I’ve done Cadaceus manor path 2 probably ten times, but today we ran into a problem with the new way point spawning system and the mobs after you get the back pack in the room with spike floors. the problem was our group kited one of the cut throats from the side to the steps near the waypoint.,The cut throat then retreated and alerted the other mobs who came and killed us. The cut throats then sat around the way point instead of resetting. Because of this when a single player would way point to respawn they would almost immediately be back in combat locking the rest of the party out of respawning. Hence we ended up in a 30 minute gear damage fiasco with a single player vs 3 cut throats, before we simply gave out and disbanded. While the new way point system isn’t that bad, I would really really appreciate it if we got a second way point that isn’t so perilously close to mobs, even if the cut throats had reset, we would still have had them easily visible and close to us. I’ve done quite a few dungeons post patch with no problems, but cadaceus manor path 2 has been made overtly difficult especially if you’re introducing a new party to the path. My party had no problems up to then and was doing quite fine. Also a better leasing on the creeps outside of the manor would be greatly appreciated, in one run I managed to make it all the way back inside the manor and upstairs only to be killed while trying to jump a stairwell. That is easily three times the distance most mobs would chase someone. I would like to add the group successfully completed story and path 1, but path 2…. Even if we had managed to get to the final boss his Aoe circles and constant conditions make reviving other players almost impossible hence that might be another issue too.
