Future of Raids

Toxicity or not, Answer why do you care? Beyond GW2 and into real life you are going to meet “toxic” people, Again you are giving the exact same choice even in real life itself! ignore and move on! Pick who you game with / Pick who you hang out with.

The conversation in this thread is about the future of raids, So I will tab into it

Raids don’t need an easy mode, Raids as is are already in “medium-easy” mode, Strats, comps, non-meta builds you name it have all been made. The material is there, If you want to learn it yourself? Well then find 9 others to do it, like everyone else did.

The future of raids should be the maintain the current level of difficulty, And keeping on track with the extra challenging AP challenge mote to make it harder, However they should extend it beyond that and allow you to earn more reward (weekly, same as a normal rewards) by doing the harder version.

I will even add, As anet themselves has posted on these forums, If any raid related story is ever relevant to story beyond the raid itself, they will make the information accessible to everyone.

Man this thread is just great!

Seriously though, Phoenix people have gone and learned the raids through tens of hours of work, perfected on all trait variants, and utilities. How can you who has NEVER raided possibly think that you outperform a meta build?

Again how can you think those same people, Who have already learned, and memorized the mechanics of whatever encounter they are advertising for in the LFG, have to accept you into there group? Think about it yourself for a moment, we active raiders have done our learning process and rather not teach someone every single time we have to raid. This is in no way elitist and its honestly pathetic that you keep throwing out that word as an insult.

The only thing holding YOU back from raiding is your attitude. People have already posted the reddit link to the training guilds, whisper one of those leaders and go get some information on raids.

@Leezy:

What did you do in all these years before HoT powercreep made dungeons irrelevant? If you couldn’t complete the dungeons back then were you ok with not being able to ‘experience’ their story?

Reality was, Out of the 150-200 person guild I was part of (This is nearly a year and a half ago so I can’t remember the number) It was a pretty close guild at the time, and every single member I group’d up with for dungeons, Not a single one had EVER watched one of the cut scenes, or read any of the dialogue.

Since everyone wants to classify themselves as “casual” I will follow suit. Reality is the other side, Dungeon tour / speed runners / raiders / fractlers. People who main the higher end of PVE content, don’t give two kittens about story

Of course this is only in my experience, and we only did a dungeon tour daily for the gold, it was the only thing we could do (and fractals) where we could go, what comp can we do, change builds up for an encounter, etc etc. Actually feel a difference in skill play compared to everything else that you want to play for…111111111111, so much fun.

But ya to answer the question, I only completed the Gw2 vanilla story like 6 months ago (started playing shortly after launch) So ya, if i couldn’t access the story i wouldn’t care. (I also got a few friends still who have never completed the story still)

I think the difference between the “casual I don’t want raids”, and raiders (not all), is that I play right now because of the people I play with, it’s the interaction, friendship you would call it. Like guys this is NOT A SINGLE PLAYER GAME THIS IS A MMORPG……. MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE, <———— i feel this is a lost message to these people

P.S I feel this will be required to add, Yes i understand you want to play a different style, Yes we get it, However raids is a small part of the game, you don’t need to access everything.

You can’t clear aetherpath while ignoring the encounter mechanics. If you don’t clear the oil fields on slick and sparky or you don’t kill holograms on clockheart, your party will die. Before the HoT release, you weren’t guaranteed to finish aetherpath or arah with completely inexperienced players at all. Heck, before the lupi wall reflect trick became widely known, you pretty much had to be able to solo lupi if you wanted to clear with randoms.

All of you that claim clearing arah for the first time was ‘easy’ are either lying, got carried by their party or are good enough at the game to be able to clear raids with a bit of effort.
Just like how it’s possible to get carried in dungeons, it’s also possible to get carried in raids. I recommend playing revenant and just sword 1111111 with facet of nature and fury on. Swap to staff and use 5 for the breakbar. Nobody will notice that you’re dogkitten. You will be needed in every encounter. You won’t have to worry about any of the ‘special’ mechanics, since those are generally covered by other classes. All you have to do is stay alive and press 1.

You are wrong, You can skip tons of mechanics due to the power creep, When I do aetherpath (yes we are raiders) We don’t do ooze, in fact we normally have the ooze killed by the time we killed sparki. The next boss’s, whoever that guy who does the spin to win attack is called. Normally people probably pull mobs off to kill them, Nope we go in, kill mobs + boss no problem. Again skipping that ‘mechanic’ (it still technically is one), As for the final boss you can skip the holograms with enough dps. You only need to time the CC break to right before he starts gaining stacks, pretty simple.

I don’t understand why people continue to argue with ohoni, He’s obviously a troll at this point, He alone creates 5+ pages on every raid thread complaining for his easy mode.

Seriously, At release of HOT a entire raid was promised, this raid was separated into 3 separate wings. So yes, our promised raid content will, since HOT release will finally be complete,(only took them 8 months?) YAY. Yet these complainer are honestly being selfish at this point, An small group of devs was hired to work on raids and they have done a wonderful job of providing hard (more medium-ish) content.

Yet here we are, with a few individuals complaining that they can’t do it. That’s simply it. A small part of developers work on raids, we know that. They were hired for raids specifically, we know that. Yet they complain. They need to put themselves past this easy mode, because the more they complain that raiders are selfish for wanting raids, they are only showing that they themselves are selfish because they want all content.

With this I will add my final point, “get good”, honestly raids are not hard. They do not take a lot of time to learn at this point as the meta, mechanics, and strats have all been learned already. You REALLY wanna par take in the raid? buy some freaken exotic berserker gear, find one of the like 4 or 5 training guilds out their (not gonna search for you)(but I have seen 2 on reddit, and LOD has training groups, etc etc). That’s it. you don’t need to be some raider to do raids.

P.S – before anyone adds ‘well it’s a casual MMO, I should get all content even if I have poor player skill/ whatever x reason’. Simple answer is actually no you don’t. This is a MMO, anet has to cater to a wide variety of players to be successful. Before hand anet thought dungeons/fractals would be hard enough. Well it wasn’t, they saw raids as the way to rectify that mistake. AND IT WORKED.

How important is voice during raids?

As long as you are not the leader of the said raid group you are perfectly fine. You may struggle if you are assigned a mechanic like ‘green’ on VG, or ‘cannons’ on sabathea, purely because you can’t call out if you miss / will be late / or to throw you will make it (sabetha), But I’ve also done them myself even while muting myself cause I just didn’t want to speak.

All in all, It’s not much to worry, Really most only want you on TS to listen in the first place. It’s the commander / caller who is speaking the most in the first place. I’ve pug’d and done guild raids enough times with mutes (no mic’s). So don’t worry about it, find a raid group and jump in. You won’t really struggle any more than someone who can communicate back.

I will add, (just cause it’s funny) In a most extreme case, I helped a friend pug sabetha cause he needed his clear. Turns out all 8 pugs we found did not / could not speak. We did it in 4 pulls. As long as you can still do mechanics it’s easily possible to successfully raid. Only difference truly is it would be harder to recover from mistakes if things go south.

Raid theme not good

Leezy.4567

@swagger

I’ll ignore the silly bit since the general population doesn’t know anything of the next raid wing, but for the wing 3 I’ll just say wait until it comes out before making a judgment like that. Other than that I feel like you don’t understand that this is a MMORPG, and you are going into a raid….. I’ll give credit where credit is due, So I will say you’r right some may not like that to have the full experience of Lore and game play be separated by team speak. However I will disagree on the flow of the raid, If you do go in, and gather up the details around the wings, you will see how a “simple” mission lead to soldiers/creatures far stronger than you have encountered before.

As I explained in my earlier post, That is all from in game sources. You go in blind, with details filling in as you go. From my knowledge (did not play gw1) the white mantle is known for hiring bandits to help accomplish their goals. This detail may not be in game but you also shouldn’t expect it to. This lore is a continuation from GW1 lore, so a few gaps should be expected, but besides some white mantle specific lore, the story is all in game., and each encounter does serve a purpose to the whole story, even slothosor which is a representation of the excessive flow of magic creating (of white mantle case being used) to become/be stronger.

again now you just seem to purposely not want to see the dots connect in the story because you seem to dislike the fact that in order to progress in it you must be on team speak in order to defeat the encounters. So this isn’t a story issue, this is a “i don’t like raids” issue.

Raid theme not good

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Leezy.4567

Leezy.4567

You are trying a little to hard to troll, The first wing is suppose to be a mystery, and as you progress the details fill in. You are entering on a mission to find the missing squad. The vale guardian is something created to protect the entrance, sure no a great reason for it’s existence but it’s just an opener to the raid setting.

Gors you have is a creature of the combined spirits of the thousands of souls (which you learn were sacrificed) coming together for revenge. Sabetha the bandits who have captured the squad, Your mission? defeat her and release them, as it was from the start.

Only after defeating her (and details in pages along the way) you learn of more beyond the wall. You go through, run into slothosor, a mutated monster powered up by excess magic energy released with the dragons death. Move on to a fort… a bandit fort (not pointless, which i have no idea how you think it’s random) the home operation of the bandits (who you learn right after work for the white mantle). You defeat the bandits, release the remaining missing squad members (original goal). But as you move deeper, to go and find the squad captain, moving to the temple in the distance, the weather around changes due to the immense magic. You come to Matthias, a white mantle inquisitor. Even at this point you are still following the original goal of finding the captured squad. Now is where part 2 comes in, The white mantle are here and sacrificing people (Gorseval),…. Details to be in wing 3.

None of this as you claim needs to be found out in a outside source. As for the complaining of TS… well it’s still a raid, so you know AFTER you clear the raid, you can go in and find all the details, You know the pages of information? It doesn’t take much effort to pay attention to the couple sentences here and there before and after a boss fight for the extra details beyond that.

You seem in your OP to try extra hard to purposely turn down on how bad the raid story is. It makes sense and is all is available in the game if you actually took the time to listen and read to whats provided in game, compared to just complaining.

Sorry to break it to you, But no closest to vipers exist, next to no group (especially pugs) would take you, maybe if you joined a guild. I’m sure some would for training runs, or to just carry you through.

As for a few more points, Mesmer… chronotank is the most important role in VG(first boss), and would take quite a while for a newbie to learn such a role, meaning to attempt to raid (again especially pug) would again pretty much be impossible.

Best bet you got, looks like you got to try to stick with your herald. which is pretty simple attack boss, buff friends, profession.

So what’s in that chest? Oh right, a Golden Fractal Relic

Why do people complain about "pay to win"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Because people are cheap, Like really if you spent at least 50 hours in HOT, with story/raids/events, doing some achievement hunting etc etc. Then you got every dollar you spent worthwhile. Whenever I want a game I just think can I get an enjoyable $1 per hour? If so or close to it which i find acceptable (obviously a 30 hour can can still be very enjoyable) then I think it’s very worthwhile.

Can we stop the ascended armor madness?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Leezy.4567

Leezy.4567

This seems so misplaced and random. People have made videos, and proven that you don’t need asc armor, full 10 man proper comp’s etc etc. If you are trying to PUG it and that’s where this rage is coming from, well sorry to break it to you but it’s their group so it’s rules are dictated by them. In a PUG scenario it’s to be expected, they don’t owe you anything, and having full asc kinda does show you have some history, experience with your class (in most cases, or at least have some commitment into that class). As for the “1000g” claim that’s completely false, a crafted set is like 500-600g. The last point is 2-3% per person, adds up with 10 people combined. More DPS = faster kill times, meaning less time to make a mistake and wipe

Some suggestions i would lay down would be start doing daily champ fractals, I see an average of 1-2 boxes a week. Trinkets are simple, and for weapons first have a look at the class specialization collections for some cheap asc weapons.

How many fakers have you seen in raid pugs?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Leezy.4567

no, but I have seen raids asking for 30+ insights,
do they really think that if I had 30+ of those… I would be PUGing? obviously I already run with a regular group if I had that many.

I know hundreds, and yes HUNDREDS of people who pugs raids WEEKLY for full clears, who have 30+ insights.

-those asking how i know hundreds, I am an officer of a no rep, raid LFG guild, we are 99% of the time maxed at 500 people in the guild, and raids and organized all the time in the guild / people picked up.

lets ignore the fact that being in a guild together means its not a PUG, and lets focus on the fact that you said they do it regularly. my point stands

But it doesn’t still stand. 500 people pulled from the LFG to make a semi more organized LFG means any groups formed even if all 10 are from the guild are in fact PUGS. Within the guild only 50 people are actually “banded” together and formed a perm group. Everyone else besides those 50 are sure as hell PUGs who raid and organize whenever they want.
You also seem to miss understand that “always part” that was more of a jab at how the guild is maintained to be kept active. Example you can’t be offline for more than a week without notice. Besides a group of 50 no other in the guild is a set group they honestly just put “LFR” in the chat just like. The LFG, as well as when people always suggest new comers to just make their own raids, a guild chat makes that a lot easier to begin said group than purely the LFG

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Leezy.4567

Leezy.4567

I’m just going to throw it out there, Most groups will only take the meta/optimal classes, since you sound like you will ideally be aiming to PUG yourself into raids, for just an easier time you are going to need to commit to it, when you find a group of friends to raid with that’s when you can start having fun / mixing comp up. Until then expect PUGs to only take what would give them the best chances of success.

You could build any composition of 10, but obviously the results would vary.

Ideal, you want one druid(heal), a chrono(tank for vg,gors), then respective classes depending on what boss you are tackling, so some reaper’s for slothosor for epidemic(add control). High DPS class’s like a DH/DD/ELE, etc etc

Personally I would suggest googling first, their is lots to know, and many different comps to use.

Was it too easy? Too hard? Just right?

I believe just right, the mechanics are unique compared to wing 1 and bring plenty of change. The raid was just completed faster because players got better because of wing 1

  • What did you think of the mechanics?*

Mechanics work well, I remember the complaints of "no one wants guard’, Looks like anet listened and provided a main mechanic of reflects, and the needing of good party wide stab

Did they add new boss fight mechanics compared to Wing 1 that pleased you? This might be things like mandating projectile management.

The notank/ rotating tank mechanic is by far one of the best! No one can be caught offguard / be carried as hard

Some of you should really reread my points and put them into better context.

I’d also suggest avoiding personal insults because it diminishes your arguments.

The way I see it you posted your complaint/grieves, spelled them out in detail, and offered suggestions on how to fix them (sorta). The community disagreed with the majority of your post, and you retaliated by stating they didn’t get your points.

So either you’re not making yourself very clear, or we have a case of checkmate in that the community doesn’t agree with you. I get that you feel the right to post your own “constructive feedback” but it goes both ways in the everyone else gets the right to post their own feedback. Whether you see it as a personal insult or not is up to you but so far it looks like you’re the one being the most negative.

As others have mentioned, it really just looks like you’ve had a bad experience with raids. That’s fine, you’re allowed to voice that. Though it’s rather moot to make a post complaining about it if you’re just going to complain rather than work out your grieves with those who have taken interest in your thread. In all honestly the only person who’s diminished their arguments is yourself.

You are correct that I brought out my dislikes and suggestions.

I don’t care if someone disagrees or not, I think commenters should read more and be more aware of their responses.

Suggestions? yea like remaking all 9 classes is something that would ever happen. How about a real suggestion besides, “I don’t like Y because X was this/could do this” when X was an entirely different game.

You also call them suggestions when…. You don’t actually give any type of example you repeat the whole “ohh they are undeveloped blah blah blah”

You’re whole “review”! As you labeled it is not that. Its a complaint that raids, are well raids. Hard content that you need to bring the A game.

My last remark will be instead of waiting for something to be handed to you on a silver platter, is go out and do something about it yourself. Like join a guild/make friends It is an MMO after all

@Swagger

I don’t understand why you keep comparing GW2 to some game from 2004. GW2 is it’s own game. GW2 was clearly never originally designed around a raid concept, So Anet had to adjust. As the game stands with what it’s got it doing quite well.

With having NO trinity all Anet had was a full zerk DPS kill before you are killed. So a semi trinity was created, with the main focus being group checks e.g GORs, DPS check (which isn’t even high),and e.g SABs personal check with cannons/bomb throwing/ timed bombs. VG has a mild of both. Group check for making it to greens/covering is someone can’t make it/personal check, don’t get teleported

Edit : i see the “choice” of raids, but GW2 just started with raid development that’s not even an argument that you have. As for difficulty. Raids as they stand now are more of a medium difficulty.

For difficulty I believe anet added they will be changing how achievements work in future raids/wings to make you tackle the encounter in a different way, which can be seen as a way to add a layer of difficulty to an encounter

Missing a gimmick by a fraction of a second and the raid is lost. Bad design.

Professions are low quality and the devs are trying to make content around these subpar classes.

Raids are the “hard” content of GW2. The fact that if you are half a second late causing you to wipe, is just how it should be. Hard content should be their to make you bring your A game. Sorry you can’t afk and watch netflix and complete the raid.

As for underdeveloped classes. I’ll list some varieties of builds off the top of my head that i have raided with/grouped with.

ELE – Healing tempest / Staff(D/WH) tempest / Condi tempest
Reaper – Zerk reaper/condi reaper, Also done the raid with a reaper tank
Chrono – DPS/tank Chrono – Condi Chrono (condi chrono was pretty awesome was fun)

Thief – Tank / Condi / Zerk, (Can use DD or Staff)
Engi – Condi Engi / scrapper tank
Druid – Offensive healer / Condi / Dedicated Healer

War – PS / Condi
Rev – boon bot
Guard – Hammer guard

Far as i see only the heavy classes are pretty limited into one set role. These are all viable to use in raids, and are used in raids. Again sorry your Greatsword full nomad mesmer can’t be accepted into raids.

I will add as well since people continue to add that classes are underdeveloped, what changes can you suggest? What would make it so much better? People keep asking for build diversity, but as i see it their is plenty. All people seem to want is to be able to be in full PVT/Nomad/Cleric to clear the raid so they can afk and watch netflix,

1) People dropping out – Make friends? Join a raid guild? Don’t have either? Well I didn’t have when raids came out, so guess what i did? Now I clear them on Monday in 2 hours like lots of other raiders.

I will also add because I’m sure this is an argument, “I have a current guild, they don’t raid but i want to raid, and can’t join/rep another guild that (will probably) require you to rep and be apart of” Simple answer is you can’t have everything. (especially if you are apart of a “casual” group that avoids that type of gameplay)

2) As for underdeveloped classes. I beg to differ. Every profession can par take in raids and can pick up a role. The whole “no variety etc etc….” Needs to just stop. You can’t have 10 nomad’s geared character’s clearing the raid. Like sorry your greatsword mesmer can’t beat/be accepted into raids.

3) Name of the game please

4) As for 1 mistake whole group wipes. That’s the whole point of raids. Challenging group content where everyone pulls their weight (though it’s not really the case as people are carried all the time) Also you can recover from missing a green, or a green in a bad “pie” in VG, or missing cannons with SAB

a tip : struggling with VG? bring a couple tempests, when you miss a green and it’s in a bad piece of pie just have them cast rebound! Boom recovered in 2 seconds.

Is Ascended Gear too Hard to Get?

cost – for me none because i gained more than i spent (cause fracts)
I got 4 sets. ( for rev, war druid, ele) and i only actually made one (around 2 years ago, so i couldn’t tell you a cost). the other 3 came from fractals, and raids from the last 3 months.

It’s not hard to get asc. Daily fracts + daily Teq, (and maybe TT) + weekly raids (not even kills but if you even go and cap your shards) Just so many ways to earn asc for free. i get 1-2 asc boxes a week.

Leezy.4567

This is just wrong.
A group can add whatever requirement they want, if they want someone with adequate experience what gives you the right to lie to them jump in and cause some wipes before they kick you because you feel entitled because you are “new” and deserve a shot?

And to those say that insights don’t = experience or skill you are right it doesn’t. But that is the only system in place where people can quickly check and get going.

How many fakers have you seen in raid pugs?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Leezy.4567

That being said, I don’t pug raids.

. But our full guild group isn’t past Gorse.
slow process. A lot of people that refuse to adapt to what is needed.

I know it’s hard to be harsh to guild mates but seriously? If you got some people refusing to do what needs to be done to get the job done then why waste time? You should kindly say "hey.. you need to change some stuff up or we need to remove you from the raid group. end of story really. you shouldn’t punish yourself because they are guild mates.

Raids were made to be around the ‘elite’ mind set. not really the whole ‘PHIW’.

Maybe you should try going 10 minutes beforehand? The last shatterer that just happened just an hour ago achieved ‘smash the dragon’. Just check the LFG for ‘cc shatt’ 10-20 minutes beforehand. Don’t expect to go right at the start of the event to find an org map.

On Rewards

Any plans on adding all the ascended trinkets to the vendor? Right now those are the only rings/amulets with stats like assassin, viper, etc

You get assassin from the reward chest from getting all dungeon armor/weapon skins. So… Hope you like PVP

I really don’t get it. OP is complaining about “bring 1.5g back”. Arah rewards 1.25g per path, and it’s almost always empty. Has 25 silver made 99% of the players move to some other part of the game? Gib explanation pls

Arah used to give 3g per bonus chest for p1,2,4. and 1.5g for p3.
….AC gave 1.5g for p1,2,3
……….Every other dungeon path gave 1g.

Fellow players should see “fractals done” (per difficulty range) and “personal fractal level” numbers.

Spoils the fun when you try to use tactics in fractals (and dungeons), and fellow player aggroes and kills every incoming mob.

You can see personal fractal level. Go into the LFG tab and hover over any of the 4 fractal categories, you will see each personal level.

I’ve checked the other maps I have access to(Tangled Depths and Viridian Brink), but they are even less active than Auric Basin. I’ll check the LFG, I think it was bugged earlier when I was checking for dungeon runs(everything showed up empty), thanks for the tip.

Sorry to break it to you. You were not bugged. No one does dungeons period, at all. The rewards were nerfed, so you will only find the odd story or maybe a path. As for the No events. you have to look for a “AB Pylon” or “AB t4” map in the LFG. If you don’t see one then you are out of luck. As for Tangled depth it reaches T4 like 30 minutes after the meta event and everyone afk/leaves the map until the meta event is ready again.

. So yes, it isn’t the best option for max grp damage, but it is a good option and the best for Guardian."

[/quote]

group > personal. If you wanted to go for personal damage. thief, ele plenty of them out in the LFG. I haven’t looked at it’s numbers. But if it is 3rd dps. it could very well be in the same situation that thief was in before it’s damage increase. It’s decent Dps but it brings nothing else to the table (as i said earlier it’s already covered)

Dear raiders - a question

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Leezy.4567

You could try. But i wouldn’t imagine people would bring you along especially pugs.
because according to the build some of the benefits a guardian would bring it already brought by another class and done better
1. “perm protection” – rev already has it
2. healing – should be covered by a druid, you wouldn’t need the passive heal from a guard

As for third dps i think you must have misread. He says “On a sidenote, this is the highest damage build of the Guardian. The higher damage GS/LB or GS/Mace,Focus(Torch) offers with their burst gets negated over time and the Hammer takes over with the higher constant DPS.”

Anet - Raids - I feel sick

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Leezy.4567

Has Anet not come out as said themselves

1. Raid’s are not designed to be puged. They look at organized groups getting together setting up a comp and working together. (not saying it can’t be pugged but its not designed to cater to those, and you should look to form a guild/group/community around raids)

2. That they have even said that YES the raid is designed around Ascended armor stats. and how it SHOULD be required. does it 100% have to be? No we players have learned that. (http://dulfy.net/2015/09/30/gw2-ascended-gear-will-be-needed-in-raids/)

3. And to the people who claim well you don’t need X, Y, or Z. I will just repeat what a few here and in other topic’s have said multiple times. If you are a Picked up individual, in a group, now a total stranger probably to the majority of said group. They can require what ever they want! you are a complete stranger and they owe you nothing., and they got 10 other people in the LFG looking for raids who are willing to do what needs to be done to get it done fast and easy with a little stress as possible

I’ll be nice. Here’s the secret
http://silverwastes.loltools.net/

what Kalendraf said it wrong also. you will still get T5-6 materials from exotic bags even if opened on a level 45. what you lose is just ascended materials. (but seriously who needs dusts, and fragments?)

So open everything on a 45,
and bags of rare gear on a 80. to salvage for the glob.
