I don’t feel like reading your wall of text can you summarize it please, thank you.

I don’t think that a response that is properly formatted into sentences and paragraphs, with appropriate breaks, constitutes a wall of text.

I am curious, why would one frequent a text based discussion board if not willing to read ?

It’s because i want him to read what he wrote for me, is that too much to ask, is it, IS IT!?

Nah, I post for people that are interested enough and have the attention spans to be able to read for a solid 45 seconds. If four five to nine sentence paragraphs are too much for you, then I can’t say I’d be interested in any opinion you have on it anyways.

but he said it was divided, so in fact this is worst than original MMO’s RNG’s where you actually get to vote on good drops and share amongst yourselves evenly.

No. It means you get full loot. If they kill it as well, the game counts it as two kills, with two loots, each player getting one kill’s worth. If three kill one target, the game counts it as killing three, etc.

And gamblers fallacy means that they’re not stealing from you, as each loot roll is independant of other loot rolls.

So because i have no friends i get discriminated against thus i get handicapped compared to others who have friends, i thought this game didn’t give any advantage over others and that it would also cater to solo players like myself?

Welcome to the wide world of Massively Multiplayer Online RPG’s, where guilds complete raids as a team. Groups complete dungeons as a team. Goals are worked on by groups of people. And there are thousands of people on at any given time.

If you’re looking for a game that doesn’t discriminate against those who refuse to chat with others, might I suggest Skyrim. You can skip all that chat, and do whatever you want to whoever you want. With nobody stealing your precursors by being in your group.

Groups of friends working together, instead of just groups, come with the benefit of people sharing with eachother as well, which can speed things up for everyone.

Friend gets a powerful blood, you get an armored scale, the two of you swap instead of selling on the TP and losing out due to the 15% tax. Atop faster kills and everything else, it really helps you make a profit.

Wow it’s 15% tax now, use to be 10%, that coupled with the drop nerf poor little Timmy and Billy won’t be trading powerful blood/Armored Scales anymore, they’ll be trading each other broken armour because reapair bills/teleporting will be too expensive.

Why I haven't touched the gem shop yet

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lionaeron.5724

Lionaeron.5724

You don’t need to use the gem store to get boosters. You get them from chests. Keys can drop anywhere and you often get keys from fully exploring maps and from other chests. I have stacks of boosters in my vault and have never purchased gems with real money.

So now you admit boosters are an advantage but go on to say that it’s ‘OK’ because you got yours for free well played drone. So what about the new players who don’t want to play the personal stories for keys (because keys don’t drop as much as they use to because of ninja loot nerf), and you have a ton backed up and probably go curb stomping poor new players who only want to play WvW. It’s people like you who make gaming crap for the rest of us, because you lap it all up on your chin and arena net <3 for it.

Sorry it seems you misunderstood my point which was that there is nothing in the gem store that people who don’t use the gem store cannot also gain. People who don’t want to earn keys through story and exploring can buy them. That’s their own choice and has not impact on the fact that they CAN get them without buying from the gem store, they just would be choosing not to get them without using the gem store. Just because someone doesn’t like an option it doesn’t make the option invalid.

I’m sorry it seems you misunderstood my point which is that there IS items in the gem store that do give advantages(“A condition or circumstance that puts one in a favorable or superior position.”). Doesn’t matter if everyone has access to them in different ways, even if getting them with RL cash is disgusting in it’s own right, it doesn’t excuse that not everyone will have access to said items which as a result gives players ‘advantages’ over others. Just because someone does like an option it can make the option invalid.

Indeed. It is also worth noting that grouping always seems to result in a much higher loot count.

Much higher is a severe understatement.

As each player has an independant loot table, a full group gets 5x the loot, albeit divided among five people.

Now, if said five people are friends working together on, say, ascended back items for everyone, we can assume that they will chip in towards eachother’s goals, speeding it up for everyone.

So if someone loots a precursor off a mob i helped kill and i didn’t get one that means they stole my loot?

Lol what, a lot of people say here that he’s burning himself out, but then they’re the same people who whined about no end game which resulted in the current gear treadmill that is Ascended. Also, there’s no way you can play something wrong, that makes no sense, that’s like when people said you’re holding the iPhone wrong. Devs themselves said this game is about how you want to play, that’s why there’s no holy trinity.

I think more of what the op is getting at is that there are still major bugs in the game. Instead of having bug fixes in AC, THE FIRST DUNGEON IN THE GAME, we get more events and content that no one really asked for so early in the game’s history.

You sir have the wisest statement in this entire thread, probably the entire forum, no sarcasm, i too bug reported that dungeon since the second beta weekend onwards
and it still has that path 2 game breaking bug still.

I just did the Grenth Event in cursed shore for the first time tonight. It was a lot more fun than I can remember having in any treadmill subscription MMO. The big events are out there. People are not doing them because they are not rewarding, but when the developer puts in a new dungeon with rewards, people complain about grind…

le sigh

BTW how the hell am i playing it “wrong”? im playing it how i play any other game, to have fun and enjoy myself. Would you like to enlighten me how to play it right almighty one?

It’s as prophetsword said, you are burned out, quit the game until you actually want to log in to play. And if you never want to log in again then good on you, you are no longer wasting time on something you don’t find fun.

Hmm burned out from an MMO in a month, that’s a new one. The end game is where this game gets stale and they tried to “fix” it by bringing in new gear hence more grind right? I knew a good few people who quit just because of this simple factor who played the original guild wars with me.

Want to hear a good joke? The entire game is ‘end-game’ HAHAHAHA, did you like how so many attacked you and quoted my ‘your playing it wrong’ mindset? If they were having so much fun why would they be here ‘trying’ to defend this bug ridden game?

Oh yeah, we must play this game and only play this game, 24/7, in order to enjoy it. How did I not see this before!

Oh yeah, i must enjoy this game because I’m still on the forums complaining about bugwars 2. How did i not see this before!

Oh geez, I need to hire someone to translate your posts or at least put them in context. And stop winking/smiling at me you damn creep.

:O you hurt my feeling bro – to think that people defending this game can call people out and abuse them while people like myself concerned with legitimate reasons for this game get infracted and the others don’t just because we are expressing negativity is appalling. If your basing this off of what you read on the forums, please don’t. The forums posters are not the average player. In most MMOs, the average player plays about 20 hours, never sees high-end content, doesn’t pvp and certainly, does not post on the forums.

Lionaeron.5724

Something a little constructive now, how I intend to get around this issue, and the loot drop bug, and make the 600G within a couple of months.

1st – Level 1 character of each profession to 80
2nd – once level 80, get them to FGS, ML, Cursed Shore, and the new island and explore a little to unlock way points that maybe useful for 3rd step.
3rd – gather, gather ori, omnom, ancient wood, and the occassional rich mithril
4th – sell on TP @ lowest sell order price
5th – move TP profits from TP to bank
6th – use said profits to keep characters own wallet above 1G
7th – once gathering done for the day, play as you like without worrying about coin

Yes it take alot of time to set it up, and yes it can take a few hours to go through all characters and gather in what you hope is an optimal path, but its not grinding, and income does not depend on luck. With 8 characters you are guarenteed an income of 10G/day (atleast), and you can chose what your favorate class of the day is to play normally with.

I have heard of people doing this with 15 characters but that would leave me little time to play.

1st wait for next content
2nd wait for last day once in a lifetime content with 8 characters lvl 80
3rd run that last day content on each character
4th ninja that loot chest on each character on different overflows
5th link 10 precursors and laugh at everyone who didn’t get one who wasn’t on
6th sell each precursor for 200-300 gold each

Why I haven't touched the gem shop yet

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lionaeron.5724

Lionaeron.5724

I was always disapointed with Arenanet when I found out about the gem store, and it got worse the more I went into it. They originally said no player would gain any advantage from the shop, it would be purely cosmetic. Well what can you buy in the shop?

- Extra bank/inventory slots (useful when farming/crafting/collecting, the default space is not much, if I have to carry several stacks of tokens on my character with limited slots, I can hold less loot and will therefore be at a disadvantage to those with more slots)
- Boosters, making the game easier for the cost of money, it doesn’t matter that these items aren’t that popular – the fact is gems give a direct advantage of some sort to people spending money
- Gold/Cash, speaks for itself, buying gold with money straight from Arenanet, gives a direct advantage to those spending money.
- Black lion keys, which gives black lion chests, which give black lion salvage kits, which give a higher rate of ecto drops, which gives that player an advantage for buying stuff from the gem store, yet again.

And the total laugh of it is, all these things that give players an advantage, are not what people want to spend money on the gem store!! They want skins, costumes, quirky hats, funny mini pets. Which seem to be less of a priority in the gem store, compared to things that give players an advantage over the none gem buying customer.

The gem store is completely wrong in what I thought it was going to be, and only hear people talk about how there is nothing worth while on the gem store.

GW2 needs to look at the LoL store, I have spent more money on skins and have never touched IP boosts, and I am sure people only buy champions if they are desperate – they dont do it every new champion thats for sure!

None of those things give you a direct advantage in PvP, nor are they that much of an advantage in PvE.

They need to keep the game profitable, and I’m glad they do it this way as opposed to a subscription. Most of the things you can buy are purely cosmetic, and the other things kinda make the gameplay easier, but not better.

I noticed you conveniently left out WvW, those boosters give clear advantage over others – speed/regen boost anyone? An advantage is an advantage, doesn’t matter how you try and spin your words, you just make yourself look like a goober.

What's wrong with vertical progression?

We have other threads about it.

Most rpgs have some progression to them, either “vertical” of improving your character’s capabilities, or progressing a story. With regard to GW1, it was notable in that there was limited gear progression that was vertical, and very limited time leveling.

Horizontal progression is a term for not having any vertical progression. I guess it’d be like advancing a story-line, except there isn’t really any in GW2.

The potential bad part of vertical progression isn’t the progression part, but rather that “gating” is often associated with it, where a player may be effectively locked out of game content if they haven’t vertically-progressed enough.

To add to this often when it comes to gear there is only one way to get it, this is not A_nets plan and they have admited to KITTENING UP by only putting the first bit of acended gear into just the fractals and are on record as saying that wont happen again.

What about the other stuff they said on record like no gear treadmill and no grind and everyone will have fun in gw2 always cause no grind etc etc. And that everyone matters and when you save a village it will stay saved not stay saved for 3 minutes until the DE respawns indefintely.

What's wrong with vertical progression?

I keep reading/hearing that Guild Wars 2 has no vertical progression, but when I check the market every few levels sure enough I see gear with better stats than the gear I currently have. So every few levels I buy and equip better gear than what I currently have, just like in every other MMO I’ve ever played.

It sure looks like vertical progression to me.

Or am I wrong? Could I just keep the gear that I acquire at level 10 and play with that all the way up to level 80? Because if I could then that would be ‘no vertical progression’.

nope you’re just playing it wrong and arena net are the best chuck out the rest.

Personally with the lack of a subscription fee I don’t feel obliged to play the game several hours a day, instead when I feel like it I’ll pop on and have a blast for however long I feel like then drop off again to do something else, I imagine this is the same for many people.

Besides, I still get booted to an overflow when I enter Lion’s Arch and at peak times there’s still a WvW queue even though I’m only on a medium population server; I also meet at least a dozen people when playing in the mid level zones on my Guardian.

But of course, I’m probably either a fanboy or one of Arenanet’s propaganda drones.

No no keep going you’ve almost sold me on coming back, i feel like my disappointment was totally unjustified and wrong now

Aaaaand don’t forget the best one, play with your nose with your hands tied behind your back, it’s a real party pleaser.

I would totally watch a video of a guy playing that way all the way to 80. Talk about an achievement.

agreed an actual achievement in a game that has no worthy achievements at all

Grind, in this game? Where?

Sure the legendaries are a grind, but no one is forcing it upon you. Some of us dont like the looks even. Besides that there is no grind, sure the doomsayers claim fractals are a grind for ascended gear, but that isnt true. It’s just a short run per day. Gearing up isnt a grind either.

The “grind” parts in this game doesnt even come close to asian games. So I dont see what part was contradicting, since I didnt say there wasnt a “grind” I said this isnt and Asia Grind MMO.

Regular MMOs and Asia Grainds are worlds apart.

“Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive tasks during video games. The most common usage is in the context of MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft, Tibia, or Lineage as well as Grind wars 2 in which it is often necessary for a character to repeatedly kill AI-controlled monsters, using basically the same strategy over again to advance their character level to be able to access newer content. Grinding may be required by some games to unlock additional features.”

I typed up a good essay explaining why there IS grind in this game and then realized what was the point trying to convince a blind drone like yourself (yes i know infracted jiggity jiggity Mod). It’s people like you who stop games evolving into better products for the rest of us to enjoy, your just arrogant and egotistic like the rest of these kittens(yes i wrote kittens) defending this game like the sad little pawns you are. /adios forums my ban will be incoming now so i hope you enjoyed my little jig

There is no sense of danger at all though. Exploring just isn’t fun for me when it’s impossible to have any kind of real failure. I mean what’s the point, just to have it done? It’s pretty tedious imo.

I like exploring to be an adventure. GW2 feels more like an introduction to mmos than an actual game.

There are a couple of solutions to these problems I see in this post and others:

- If you want to make your exploration more of an adventure, go to areas higher in level than you are and explore there. It will be an adventure because the chance of failure is higher.

- If you want to level slower overall, go to areas below your level and never level in an area that’s the same level as you. This will actually make it harder and harder to level.

- Alternatively, if you want a real challenge in leveling, go to areas above your level and try to only level that way.

- Consider playing with a perma-death rule of some kind (like only allowing 5 defeats). Then, getting to 80 will be a real accomplishment.

I could probably think of twenty other ways to spice up the game…because the game is what you make of it.

Make overflow the default for PvE zones.

It’s because PvE is mind numbingly easy (sorry for reiterating this if you have already read this), it’s not about the rewards I’ve even gone back to zones that i previously liked in beta to go play DE’s i enjoyed (only a few in the whole game), but like you said PvE is unrewarding for high level players even though it was one of arena nets big selling points “Whole game is end game” -_-.
