I used to be on DB for WvW.
The problem with DB is two-fold. First, it is carried by its strong SEA presence, so in it’s other time zones it is often outmatched. Second, the WvW NA population is very divided, some are heavy ppt’ers, some are fights oriented. This divide played a major role in the exodus of 6 moderate-major NA guilds from DB after the end of Season 2 (RET and WET immediately after, Agg when they dropped from T2, and more recently BMO, EA and TB).
As an fyi, almost all of these players reside in T2, most of whom are on SoS currently.

They have never been fully random. In fact, the highest glicko rated world in a matchup tends to be green, and the lowest will most likely be red.

Rewards should have always been effort based as opposed to whether or not you were willing to move to a high placed server. As well, the tournament style should have been full Swiss…sure it would mean week 2 would have been a clusterkitten of bad matchups, but it would also have put HoD and SoR into equilibrium faster.
Does it suck that you happen to be on the only server in the top 11 ppt servers in this game to not get a mistforge weapon? But you have to remember, we in DB had the opportunity to throw ourselves into silver if we really wanted, and us core wvw’ers decided to grind ppt hard to get better and more consistent fights in gold league.

For the people who are complaining about OP, this isn’t about being blocked from WvW. You are right, the stipulations that we would not be allowed to participate in the tournament were made early on. HOWEVER, we are upset because now these regulations are being put in NOW. When I first transferred over on April 1st, it told me that I could be IN WvW, but I would not be receiving my new server’s prizes – which is perfectly fine. I assumed that’s what they meant, and perhaps I would receive them after the “holding period” if I continued fighting for my current server.
Now, all of a sudden, I’m completely blocked from WvW. If this was broken, I understand why it’s fixed, but now we have questions that come up. Because I transferred over on the 1st, does this mean I’ll be let back in to WvW on Friday, where the date for my “probation period” should be over, or because it’s fixed TODAY, does this mean it’s completely reset and I’ll not only have to wait out the rest of this week, but next week as well?
It’s very confusing and frustrating, because I’ve been playing for this server for a week now, actively participating every day, and now I’m locked out for I have no idea how long. That’s all.
Serves you right for being a traitorous continuing source of inspiration.
Go play ranger some more.

The current way tournament rewards are set is not ideal to say the least. You should not be rewarded for choosing the correct server when you first started playing. Why does some who does the bare minimum on Jade Quarry deserve a better reward than someone who is protecting dolyaks, sieging up, defending and overall grinding for 8 hours a day? They don’t. As we have it, the current system promotes server stacking to the top 3 expected servers for each league. As well, players in only the top 5 servers will get access to the new weapon skins after this first tournament (they look absolutely sick btw). I guess it is too late to change this for now, but for tournaments in the future I suggest a different reward system that should mitigate the issues of server stacking and provide an acceptable rewards system for all players.
Proposed System
Have different tiers of rewards for your overall participation:
First Tier
This is for the AP hunters and PvE’ers. Completing it will provide a chest containing the 300 tickets so you can get the mistforged weapon or any of the other available prizes. This tier should only take 10 hours over 9 weeks to complete with very modest requirements that anyone can accomplish. This way the people who don’t want to be in WvW can be finished early. This will be the only tier with Achievement Points awarded so no one feels like they have to grind past this point.
Second Tier
This tier is for the WvW militia who typically run in EBG a few hours every week anyways. Expected time to complete this tier should take 40-50 hours. After completion the player should receive a chest containing an ascended weapon set and 100 tickets. This will be no extra work for the people who’s primary focus in the game is WvW, but will give them a nice bonus to being there. Also, achievement hunters will not be miffed because there are no AP’s to be gained here and there is nothing you can’t get more efficiently by playing PvE.
Third Tier
This one is for the hardcore players. The one’s who are doing overtime…the elite of the elite. Time to obtain should be at least 120hrs if not 150. You will receive a chest containing an ascended armor piece with the stats of your choosing, 200 tickets (to make the 2nd mistforged weapon) and a cosmetic skin that is completely unique to WvW. Some people might be upset that they can not obtain this skin but considering how many skins require LS participation it is only fair.
As a disclaimer all numbers are fairly arbitrary as this is just used as an example of the participation tiering system, but I think you get the idea.
Now, some people might be upset that they don’t get anything for coming first in the tournament and thus this doesn’t reward the concerted effort of a server to win. However, this system integrates well with the current system. For instance you can provide additional rewards at the end of the tournament based on your servers placement and the reward tier that you achieved. For instance, someone who is on the 3rd place server and completed reward tier 2 can get the bronze dolyak finisher (tier 1 3rd place reward) and 200 tickets (tier 2 3rd place reward), while someone who is on the 5th place server and completed tier 3 receives no finisher (tier 1 5th place reward), 100 tickets (tier 2 5th place reward) and 300 tickets (tier 3 5th place reward).
Please post any comments and suggestions. If enough people support suggest a system we could potentially turn this into a legitimate proposal to ANet about how to properly reward WvW.

This is a great server and I highly recommend it for people who prefer not taking the easy way out *cough**cough* HoD cough, sorry about that.
P.S. WET has been exacting plenty of vengeance for Ebay…ZoD, Hood, GH, and ZOMG bags are always the sweetest and easiest to acquire. See you in a couple of weeks FUNK (former Void).

The idea that you have to be in clerics gear to fill the “support” role is laughable. I had no idea that I needed clerics gear to run skills such as wall of reflect, purging flames and retreat as a guardian. It’s not the gear you wear but the skills you bring, and the individual skill that you have.
A zerker provides more support to the party through might stacking, fury, reflects, aegis, water fields etc. than any clerics bear bow ever will.

They are on JQ actually, and they are in SF (I think it’s the biggest WvW guild on JQ). Also this Nazarak dude is also a scammer, he has posted on pretty much every WvW guild posting looking for money to “transfer”.

Pip, you are right that the title I worked so kitten and thought was kitten (Dungeon Master) has lost almost all value because people can get it so easily now (enough gold and you never even have to kill an enemy in a dungeon). It always pains me to see a DM guardian who camps Bifrost.
That being said, there are still some prestigious titles, such as all the champion titles for tPvP, the Emporer (I know you have to buy to get it, but it’s pretty rare). All the WvW ones would be cool if they were more reasonably obtainable as well.

How many Cylias, Pound Cakes and Xivts can I kill each week? ;D

Everything above ~1k AP is useless and tells you nothing about a players experience (this is a spitballed number for the point in time that you have played enough on a certain character to learn its skills and traits and gain some handle on how the game is played). Basically all that an AP check shows is if it is quite low they are very new to the game and will need a lot of help, but again past 1k you have no idea if the person is skilled or not, but typically the higher the points above 5k the worse they are. In fact, the people who I prefer to run with are between 3-6k currently, while a bunch of people I try and avoid doing dungeons with are 11k+.
Sadly, there is no easy way to show how experience someone as something. In GW1 there were certain titles you could display to show skill, but in GW2 not so much (even DM is pointless). The best would be if there were title attributed to the total number of tokens you have earned running a certain dungeon. I.e. for AC you could have a title scheme of:
1. 1k tokens – Catacombs Dweller
2. 2.5k tokens – Catacombs Explorer
3. 5k tokens – Catacombs Adept
4. 10k tokens – Catacombs Master
5. 25k tokens – King Adelbern Pays Me Rent
As such, if you wanted a good speed clear group you could post “LFG AC all paths, 80+, Display Catacombs Master”

So the following things are bannable (either temporary or permanent depending on severity).
- kick abuse (i.e. kicking for no reason) – as you have described it above you are getting rid of someone who does not understand the mechanic or is trolling so you are using kicking appropriately
- selling dungeon spot when exploiting the game – you are allowed to sell dungeon runs in this game, however if you do it after exploiting either the game or someone else you will be permanently banned from the game. In the above situation since you had a valid kick reason to kick the person you were not exploiting them so you should be fine. However, I would return the money to the person because you might still get reported/investigated and this would look suspicious and might result in a temp ban while Anet determines whether you guys were at fault.

Sometimes to ensure a pug has read my lfg I will ask that they name their favorite colour/food etc. on join. If they don’t within 15s I kick them given that they did not follow party requirements/instructions as designated by the LFG. This typically results in a kittenstorm, but my pug groups are typically good. Forming zerk only ping on join groups also weeds out the illiterate (if you want a good laugh you can also form a ping gear on join group, and then quickly feel terrible about the state of the average player in this game).

Hey there,
Recently Ebay has lost the vast majority of it’s skilled WvW guilds. As such, we have dropped tiers to the point where we can run around all night in borderlands and not see an opponent. As such, many of the members of my guild are interested in moving to a new server and guild to get our WvW fix.
What we are looking for:
- At least tier 3 server
- NA guild (raids after 8 EST)
- 18+ guild
- multiple zerg busting/skill group raids per week
- Active and no drama
- Not 100% rep during non-wvw raid times. We have friends that we like to run with as well
What we provide:
- Experienced
- A variety of classes to fit within the mold you need (guardians, mesmers, necro’s, thieves, and ele’s)
- Willingness to change builds to synergize with the group
- Active, friendly, and chatty players
I should also note we are willing to pay for our own transfers.
Please contact me in game or through this thread if you are interested in suring up your force.

Wait…are you joining groups that say “heavies only”? If so you kind of deserve it. People are allowed to make whatever party they want with whomever they want, just like you. Make an anybody welcome party and you will fill up much faster than them.
/thread
Edit: I should note in the case that you are joining a group where you meet all the requirements then they are being kittens and you probably have more fun playing with other people and they are actually doing you a favour.

I’ve been working on a P2 solo with my Guardian. I can get to alpha fight 2 with not too much trouble (after the abomination). The problem I’m having is that godkitten crystal he puts on me. Basically if I get caught it’s a death sentence. I know it is a telegraphed skill (although the dodge window is fairly short) but if I make just 1 mistake I’m pretty f’ed up. I have also tried using the undead tendrils as rally bots when I down. This helps, but I feel there must be an easier way.
I have been thinking about re-trying it with my mesmer, and using the phantasms as potential crystal distractions (this would also make the golem easier). Would this work or are there any other tips on how to better do the version 2 and 3 fight for alpha. I’m pretty confident in being able to do the 2nd last boss solo, in fact w/o pugs screwing up the bomb aggro it will probably be easier for me, so once I have this done I can finally put CoE 2 to rest for dungeon solo’s.
(Just in case people are wondering, I bring in 3 friends for the laser part, since they are just opening a door for me so I can progress I don’t think this invalidates my solo attempt).

It always pains me to see that most people thing engineers are useless in PvE. But like a ranger they suffer from the same issue that poorly played one is worse than a poorly played one of many other classes.
Things an engineer brings
- Great DPS (7-8k autoattacks ain’t too shabby)
- Vuln stacking – easy way to maintain 25 stacks against even bosses
- Fire/water/smoke fields as necessary
- Tons of blast finishers
- AoE condition cleanse (healing turret overcharge)
My big problem is that 99% of the time I have this stupid hobo sack on my back, instead of my predator and fractal capacitor. Also medium armor looks pretty bad in this game =.=
Professional Bag Farmer and Under Bridge Resider
Engineers have one of the best party wide condition cleanses in the game, coming from healing turret. Basically lay down the turret and overcharge it to remove 2 cond from everyone in a large circle. Also it’s a huge water field that you can blast for AoE heals. Beyond that elixer C will convert conditions to boons. The toolbelt skill of Elixer R removes all conditions and acts as an aoe revive (although with a huge CD). You can also trait into Alchemy X – Cleaning Formula 409, which causes elixers to remove an additional condition. And the 15 trait point trait in alchemy causes incoming conditions to convert to boons (15s CD). There are a lot of ways an engineer can mitigate conditions, you just have to know what and to trait into them.

So the big question is what’s going to happen with this “crit damage nerf”.
When setting primary and secondary stats it is done ratiometrically (i.e. secondary stats are 70%) for crit damage, this value should be around 7% of the primary value.
Right now crit damage on all pieces is fairly out of whack, especially around scaling for trinkets. Right now crit damage scales at around 11%. As such, a fair nerf would be to bring it down to 6% for amulets, 5% for rings, 4% for earrings, and 4 for the backpiece. As well, the scaling of the other secondary stats are off atm as they are too low. As such, this secondary stat should be improved for ascended pieces to 90 for amulets, 73 for rings, 65 for earrings, and 40 for the backpiece.
As for armor, crit damage needs to be improved a bit. Where helms now have 3% instead of 2%, and the armor has 7% instead of 5%. All the other ascended pieces are good scale wise for ascended armor.
All in all, this will results in a 13% drop in crit damage, with about a 2% increase in crit chance.
But the point is, this will be a fair scaling that should not “ruin” the zerk meta but just result in kills being about 7% slower.

My hopes for the livestream:
Screen starts black. A spotlight appears on a turned black chair. It spins and there is our heavenly prince…Robert Hrouda.
“I’m back mother-f***ers” And on the screen it shows his title. Dungeon Lead Developer.
Novel end-game content is coming back with 5 new dungeons as soon as Scarlett dies. He shows a preview, and it looks epic. Boss fights with amazing and interesting mechanics.
Now for the stat changes. Crit damage is not actually being changed, but PvE cond damage is being buffed (something like increasing the number of stacks to 50 in dungeons…that’s going to be some insane vuln stacking). You can almost hear the casuals bursting into tears at the same time.
It looks like the stream is about to end, but wait there is more. All toughness/vit/healing stats for pve gear is replaced with power/prec/crit damage/cond damage (you get to choose assassins, zerks or rampagers).
Now for the skill updates:
Guardian staff #1 – deals damage to user forcing them to stop camping it
Ranger Bear – Now uses an attack which pulls the owner to it. Also switches the users weapon sets from bow to Sword/Warhorn.
Twilight on mesmers is replaced by bolt. They are informed via mail to buy a focus/pistol/sword offhand.
And thus the golden age of GW2 begins. One can hope, right?

The biggest problem with comboing in this game is the overall level of ignorance in the community about it. Probably only 10% of people understand what’s going on when “Poison” or “Area Healing” pop up on their screen. And even among these people the spamming of useless fields is wanton. If I received a copper for every chaos armor or retaliation I have applied I would make Evon Gnashblade look like a Pauper.
As such, before we go all out and complicate the system even further, we need to do a better job educating the community on how comboing works, and what each combo field does. People need to be force fed through hearts or some tutorial (and not just a hint message) how each combo field and finisher works together. The fact that Guardians who play multiple hours every day don’t know what a light field is a massive indictment on the education system in this game and needs to be improved asap.

We are trying to take steps to address some of the dominance of Berserker/DPS players. More info next week, I think.
Jon
Depending what you do, you will have a major exodus of the hardcore players from this game. People spend a lot of time trying to min/max DPS in this game because it is the most viable way to play PvE in this game with the high enemy health pulls and the ability for skilled players to dodge away from 1hit kills. The majority of players run terrible soldiers/clerics builds in PvE because that is what they ran well leveling their character and think that 1k crit is good (it isn’t if you were wondering).
So what are our options:
- Nerf Zerk and Sin gear stats: this is a terrible solution due to the massive time invested into making the respective ascended pieces for these. Any massive stat nerf would be a complete slap to the face to players who spent a lot of time working on building these pieces and they will likely just move from this game. DO NOT DO THIS ANET
- Tweak meta traits/skills: Essentially decrease the damage modifiers some trait lines provide. This will likely switch people off their specific trait builds as long as it is still the best DPS option. As the game is right now, the hard core pve’ers will always trait for highest DPS.
-Increase rate of attack of enemies/decrease damage – as it stands, toughness is not a very helpful stat, me in my zerks gear (at 2000 armor) vs. someone in tanky gear (3000 armor) will die in 2 shot vs. 3. However, if I am good at dodging attacks I will die in 5 shots (I have vigor so I can get that dodge back) and they will die in 3 (dead no DPS is still no DPS). As such decrease the damage of mobs so toughness gear is more viable, make it so zerks can take 5 shots and a tank can take 9 right to the face. But also make it so the enemies attack faster so it is not a simple matter of blind spamming enemies and dodging all of their attacks. This is a much more time intensive plan, but would likely improve the game as a whole.
- Change agro mechanics: Right now, in most fights (not all) enemies initially will go after high toughness but then switch to highest DPS. This is why if you have 4 people in tanky gear and 1 in DPS gear, that person will be the one taking damage while everyone else feels good about themselves because they can survive the 0 attacks they are taking. Instead have it so toughness/armor garners most threat. That way you can viably have a tank in your group while your DPS focuses this boss. It is then also the job of the DPS to help keep the tank up with AoE heals. This might be too close to the holy trinity for Anets liking though.
- Do nothing: the meta is set, if you want to run a soldiers/clerics build run in a group who allows that, if you want to run a full zerks build then run in a speed clear group. I have seen no problem with this so far (except for a few upset people who whine about getting kicked from a group that they didn’t read the LFG for). I play how I want, you play how you want. With this option, nothing big will be screwed up in the patch, and people will stay with the game.

Here’s how:
Are you in a guild that runs all guild missions?
If yes, do them for 7 commendations a week.
Take 12 commendations and buy ascended accessory for 12 commendations and 5 gold, then infuse this with a +5 infusion.
If no, do you have 40 laurels and about 15 gold lying around?
If yes, buy an ascended accessory from the laurel vendor for 40laurels and 50ecto.
If no,
Grind up in fractals for relics to make an ascended backpiece or to get enough globs to infuse a ring (you get a ton of karma for running fractals at a lower level then your own).
You can also just dodge all the enemy agony attacks and heal through the guaranteed agony, tier 2 fractals is honestly not that hard with a semi-competent group.
Professional Bag Farmer and Under Bridge Resider
Grenades deal more damage than bombs in a team since they stack vulnerability much easier.
Wait…Wha…..I am maxing the cap of vulnerability with bombs. What logic allows grenades to do more damage when reaching the same cap?
Let’s do the math. With bombs 1 explosion every 0.5 seconds. Vuln from steel-packed powder lasts 6.5 seconds (assuming 30 in Explosives). Using precise sights you have a 50% chance to cause 3s (3.9s) of vuln on crits (lets say best case you have 100% crit chance). As such, you will only be able to maintain on average 17 vuln as a bomb engineer. If you also do sitting duck you will be able to bump this up to 22 vuln pretty easily. However with the amount of vuln spam from the other professions in your team comp, 25 should be easily maintained. As such, grenade vuln stacking is pretty overkill, and not needed for most organized groups. Also, the loss of fire fields and blast finishers with running a pure grenade build is something that should not be overlooked.

Hey Ben, thanks for responding in this thread. It’s always nice for us in the dungeon community to see some interaction from the devs. Does this mean that at some point in time the issue where the instance owner leaves party will no longer kick the group, but instead transfer ownership of the next person in party with story mode unlocked? Also is there any talk about fixing the issue with only 2 people being needed to kick someone from the group (making a lot of us very wary of joining up with groups of friends)?

A few weeks ago I was running TA up and forward with a guildie. We pugged the rest of the group, noone said a word, everyone meleed tree in zerks and we finished both paths in <25 min.
Another good example was last night I pugged a group for AC3. We had 2 <lvl 60 necros and no ele so I had somewhat low expectations. ~20 min later I had my 60 tokens for the run and a better appreciation for not judging a book by its cover.
