You don’t even need to get the recipe before the event is over. Just so long as you have the ingredients for the recipe, the mystic forge will give you the recipe from those ingredients any time of the year.
Sorry Im maybe newb, but isnt this skins able to get only during the event?
I’m okay with this because I intend to get the recipe and craft the shield at a later time when I have the time and materials, as only the crafting of the recipe itself need halloween items
Excuse me but, how can one make the recipe only (for this shield)? Also, you say it will be possible to craft post-event ?
Been playing with the PvP Locker and many armors gave ridicilous clipping issues. Is it just me, or Charr have the most clipping issues? As far as I can tell, male humans and sylvari have the least problems (them being of normal stature)
They should just repair the lag issues (characters not showing up). Due to this, Its impossible to see and target the Thief for an additional 2-3 seconds (in addition to his normal fade-in time). So in total, you see him when youre dead or near death.
Whats wrong with Gw1 Assassins? Been part of the game meta on more occassions in both PvE and PvP. Anyway yes good point, they didnt have stealth. But IMO its better to add stealth detection than remove stealth
Its not a bug, its related to the Halloweed event comming oct 22th.
Will try to post some screenshots tommorow
Im saying that as your character looks around, often an iris would get halfway under the eyelid. Looks really ugly, as if ones character has strabismus. This is most apparent during character creation and the character login screen. So far ive seen this on humans, norn and charr. I dont think Asura have this issue, and I dont know about the Sylvari. But if its possible to fix Asura head issues maybe this can be fixed too?
I agree, thieves can reset fights too easily with stealth and have very high burst. I don’t think their burst is too much of a problem, it’s that they are not as vulnerable to counterattack if they fail as other burst classes.
Good post milo. Although I think that the Thief, as an “assassin” type class, should have high burst but also stealth. Nerfing any of those two would ruin the concept ie. it would not be a “thief” anymore. So all Im saying is to add stealth detection in the game, which would keep the backstab gimmick in line and at the same time allow us to preserve this class concept without nerfing it
I really dont know why I cant see someone bleeding while invisible, or why they get transluscent so hailstorms and other things do not show when they are hit.
If Anet lack the engine to do such things, then we def need a stealth detection because right now it is ridiculous and breaks completely the immersion.
AT LEAST LET US SEE THE FOOTPRINTS kitten FOOTPRINTS
Dont we get floating feedback when invisible characters are hit by AoE ? If not, it should be added immediately IMO
… Almost every skill in this game can be dodged or avoided if not LoS,…
Indeed.
Following your reasoning, if ArenaNet made an instakill skill with 2 seconds casting time, it would be perfectly fine to you because it can be avoided, dodged or interrupted.
Its already in the game, its called Backstab. But yeah bad analogy is bad.
… And yes, time warp is way better in some situations, that’s why Mesmers are OP in almost everyone’s opinion.
Not really, mostly people who are unfamiliar with the Mesmer concept from Gw1 (and those who get owned by Mesmers) think they’re OP.
Hello OP, I dont think high damage is the problem, but rather going into stealth as often while not having the ability to reveal stealth.
So far the only classes that have unconditioned access to stealth are the Mesmer and the Thief. Mesmer gets 3 seconds on an utility skill and 5 on an elite (4/6 when traited, respectively), and both have reasonable cooldowns. Thief has access to even more stealth skills (weapon, utility and healing skills), out of which most are 3s. I dont think the number of Thief stealth skills is the problem, but rather the one dependent on Initiative which doesnt have a cooldown – Cloak and Dagger. Thief is less squishy than Scholars but can disengage at will. I dont think this is balanced. So my suggestion is that, instead of nerfing the Thief, make certain combo fields (maybe “Light” but I’d let the devs decide which) reveal stealth. But I’d recommend making them reveal stealth only in their AoE, so when a characters leaves the field he is again invisible. The pros is that players would be able to reveal stealth based on their intuition (i.e. players would have to guess where he might be) without breaking the stealth mechanic in general, or nerfing the Thief. One would need to take the appropriate skill with him though, taking up 1 slot on his/hers skillbar.

Started looking on these forums today trying to see new strats, team comps, and what have you to better my pvp play for the upcoming tournaments and all i found is NERF THIS NERF THAT THIEVES WARRIORS MESMERS MOA NERF RAGE NERF MAD SO MAD RAGE NERF.
+1
If these posters spent half of that time on build craft and improving skill and strategy, both the game and forums would be much more enjoyable. Its really like the devs said, “Less QQ more Pew-Pew”
Bad design.
Not really, its working as intended. The basic idea is to polymorph your oponent. Its quite Mesmerish and yet not imbalanced so its okay. The only change they should do to Moa is make it able to jump IMO
@Zogyark: your post is hilarious. Are you seriously suggesting to try to attack your enemy with a 2 seconds casting time melee skills that deals 1k damage in the best case?
Are you saying that Moa isn’t overpowered because it can be… DODGED?!?
.
Moa can be dodged/evaded quite easily. Moa also often fails due to LoS or because you moved out of its range. You must be quite a…. talent if Moa represents a game-breaking issue for you.
Quite easily? It’s players like you that keep this game from getting better. Unless all you do is run around hiding around corners waiting to pvp a mesmer, you are not going to simply dodge anything. Stop lying.
Sorry Im not lying. If you have basic PvP feeling in your fingers, dodging Moa (and generally most other abilities) comes quite naturaly. If you stand like a rock infront of a mob… then yeah, Moa would be a death sentence.

Cant find the link >.<
I remember to have read it somewhere in regards to the upcoming Halloween update.
I mean PvP items will stay in PvP instead of cluttering my inventory in PvE and vice versa… Am I understanding this correctly or Im seeing things?

The Mesmer nerfs so far were 100% legit, but I dislike that many Mesmer traits are still messed up
I agree with op that these hidden stories should be somehow pointed out.
Nooo, it would ruin all the pleasure of finding it by accident ! Dont dumb down games !!
Care to share your findings Knote?
If someone hits me, Retaliation will reflect damage back to its source based on characters power. What if an Ele hits me with AoE and I have Retaliation?
Oh you mean like raids? Yeah those things that only a small percentage of the population get to experience never go over well.
I honestly doubt he meant raids …
I dont think its a waste of time at the least ! This kind of things like little hidden passages or stuff that isnt on the map, or in the journal (even if we dont have one) is what makes exploring in role-playing games so great !
Some open threads in the forum have no edit, quote or report function icons beside their posts. The only thing visible is the permalink.
I have this since I started using this forum. Fix please.
Oh, and clones created from the trait ’Deceptive Evasion" will target the nearest target instead of yours.
True, is this a bug or intented?
(edited by Luka.6831)
It’s a hilarious ability and tbh I’m 154% surprised it lasts longer than 4 seconds max regardless of it’s cooldown.
What people dont realise is that Moa has more than decent speed and accelerates nicely when you press dodge. Infact the Moa is faster than my Charr Mesmer. They need to make Moa able to jump, but thats it. I was Moad couple of times the other day, I headed straight and pressed dodge twice and was already ahead of my pursuer

… Maybe it would be ok if mesmers were not already doing ridiculous damage considering their high escape and survivability.
What ridiculous damage ??
4k for illusionary unload or 5k from berserker, maybe…
You call that “ridicilous damage” ?? iBerserker crits for 5k in the same situations that Warrior Kill Shot crits for 25k, or where a Thief Backstab gimmick build combos for 33k within 1 second. This is starting to be a QQ thread where everything about Mesmer is suddenly OP, its damage, elites, utilities….

What prince said.
I agree with the OP. MOA is a ridiculous skill. I’ve been killed more than once by very bad mesmers, you could see that they keyboard turn, backpedal, and overall react slowly in fights. I burst them down to 10-20% health, they pop the bird and i lose my remaining 80% hps before the MOA even expires. Landing a burst is the most difficult on a mesmer in my experience and when you manage to land it they just pop their iwin button and it negates all your much better reaction skill with their skillless ability. It’s true that in big fights I will usually survive MOA by running away, but in tournaments it really sucks when you get 1v1 with a bad mesmer to cap or defend a node and lose because of such a stupid skill, as if they weren’t already overpowered enough in 1v1.
Sorry but your post is just very anti-mesmer oriented without much sense. Moa is not an I-win button. Moa is not easy to use and can be nullified in several ways. You are also wrong in thinking Mesmers are easy to play. You need to be constantly making Illusions and shattering, using four different effects – damage, Confusion, interrupt, block. We have some of the best utilities though, but thats it.
Obviously missed it somehow, no need to be rude =)
In tPvP, it’s practically a death sentence if it’s used on you in a 1v1 situation …
This is just not true. First Moa can be dodged, evaded, blocked, which happened to me many times. Moa also sometimes fails to cast due to LoS. The only time when its truly a “death sentence” is when you;re mobbing
(edited by Luka.6831)
And dont forget that so far Mesmers got hit the hardest in updates, and not a single meaningful nerf for Thief AFAIK, a class that requires less skill to play well in sPvP.
Relying on traits for doing damage ? Sounds like every other classes.
Yeah, as far as im aware.
And yes, the Mesmer can put more damage than lots of class.
Thats not true. If anything we’re in the average damage category.
The game is unbalanced atm, you can’t deny it. Just look at Necro.
Wait, Necro now too ? Sorry but this is starting to look like pure QQ
Opening post needs to be updated
Masterful Reflection (distortion grants reflection) doesnt work with all sources of distortion like Blurred Frenzy (Sword 2). Works only with shattering (F4)
(edited by Luka.6831)
Isn’t the Mesmer class cheesy enough already???
What’s cheesy? We dont have inherently high damage or a simple, cheap class mechanic.
Compare you defense and damage (especially in a shatter build) to a necro and come back again and post your experience.
As one guy already posted above: the class does insanely high damage considering how many cc/utility tools for survival it has and how much visual confusion they cause.
Visual confusion is the Mesmer concept. What about it?
Insanely high damage? Cant say that Id agree. We get nice damage on shatters but generally we rely heavily on traits for damage. We dont have inherently high damage. We have great utilities though, one of the best I must say.

Dont forget that the Mesmer has had many nerfs and continues to do so (and at the expense of PvE performance). So I think they are definitely trying to keep it in line, without damaging PvE too much, or Mesmer concept, being the “anti player” class in both games. Also dont forget that many Mesmer traits are broken and still dont function correctly. Overall I think Thief deserves at least as many nerfs.
If you can pay with gems, you can pay with gold, by purchasing gems.
Good point !
No one heard about the introduction of rentable arenas in sPvP ? (aka “custom arenas”)
Mesmers have too many tricks up their sleeve compared to most classes too.
Because Mesmers are intentionally made to be an anti-player profession, just like in Gw1. Mesmers are inherently a PvP profession and therefore perform much lower in PvE. So if you think Mesmer are OP, its because it has always been a PvP class. In PvP Mesmers are working as intended.
EDIT: As for Thiefs I cannot say because I have not encountered them much in PvP. As far as I can tell, they have high ammounts of spike damage and devastating chains. Block/Evade skills dont help much because they’ll only negate one attack within a long chain of high damage attacks.
I’ve discussed this with my mates plenty of times. The problem I find with mesmers is that they are designed for messing with people. So from a class design perspective they are stronger. Again this is just my opinion.
Yes, Mesmers are an anti-player profession by design. You are correct. Thats why they suffer in casual PvE. Are they impossible to kill? No, just harder to kill 1v1. I believe you can counter them with timing and skill.
It’s insanely overpowered. The cooldown on it is irrelevant. Any small skirmish is immediately ruined when someone uses this. Lately it seems like any time I go off to catch something off the radar a mesmer will show up with moa and all anyone can do is zzzzzzz.
Supreme anti fun.
Its not overpowered, its working as intended. Its “anti” because Mesmer is an anti player class, deal with it. It was always a PvP class by design, since Gw1

Hello everyone I think I like this idea in sPvP, but is it possible to pay with ingame gold? Dont tell me you can only pay with gems and “tickets” you get from tourney chests…
Only LoS needs to be fixed, not damage. Like some poster said, “iBerserker crits for 8k in the same situations that Warrior Kill Shot crits for 25k, or where a Thief Backstab gimmick build combos for 33k within 1 second”
Ill just copy paste what Ive said in another topic about our profession and the latest patch
1) Mesmer is a PvP class, like in Gw1
2) Therefore PvP balance is their top priority (and then hopefully traits)
3) Mesmer will become better in PvE with expansions and new content (skills etc.)
4) Real Mesmer players choose it for style and concept, not power or popularity
5) Chaos Armor got buffed
Few things …

I think you’re probably right. I played a mesmer from day one in GW1, and struggled for a long time. However, they eventually buffed us (although I was sad when the heros became so much better at interrupting than us humans). I’m going to bide my time with my mes and hope for the best.
I dunno but Mesmer class mechanic is to me clearly more standardized for PvP, mainly because most of the time it affects a single target.
Firstly Shatters. They’ve said four is the limit for the number of buttons a class’ mechanic can have. In our case you have four very clear and direct skills – damage, Confusion, interrupt, block (Confusion which doesnt work well in PvE anyway). Yes some Shatters are AoE but all have a single target initially.
Secondly, Clones affect a single target. All Phantasms except two affect a single target. Also, most of the time both die after 1 hit. So as the number of targets you’re normally engaging increases, casual PvE will become more ankward (because you must simulate AoE with single target attack patterns) and the overall progression more difficult.
Also worth noting is that we’ve lost Hexes and Interrupts from Gw1. Interrupts exist only in very few skills, most of the time you wont be able to interrupt someone’s action. Hexes on the other hand have been replaced with more focus on conditions, like they said in one of the early Mesmer interviews. PS It could also be considered, as noted many times on these boards, that Phantasms represent single target Hexes or DoT skills.
The Mesmer WAS a PvP class until 2009/2010 update, where they got the AoE Wastrel’s Worry, improved Panic, and basically weapons of mass destruction.
.
Likely history will repeat itself in some form, this time I just dont want to wait 3 or 4 years
