Crimethink [ct] – Yak’s Bend
I just started using the “Sonic Boon” GS build and so far I love it!
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/74697-build-sonic-boon-shout-greatsword/
You tried Warhorn as an offhand? Look up the Yojack build! I’ve run with it before and it’s pretty fun if you want something different from GS.
But easymode doesnt run healing shouts – I do
EDIT : Just at work at the moment but if you search ‘Sonic Boom’ warrior build in google it should bring it up.
In short its 10 /25 /5 /30 / 0 obviously picking up forceful greatsword in Arms and shouts heal in tactics.
Will go into more detial once i am home.
That’s so funny! I <literally> just read the Sonic Boom original spec on my lunch break and respec’d to that and I’m loving it! Now I don’t have to save up for new Exotics as I was already running Knights armor with Bezerk weapons/accessories! Yay!
Mind sharing your build? I’m considering going into Healing Shouts with Warhorn for more overall utility and survivability in both dungeons and WvW (ZERO interest in sPvP).
Who was this to mate?
EasymodeX, but ALL are welcome to post builds!
Would you mind elaborating on the build’s playstyle?

What is everyone’s prefered offhand compliment to the Axe?
I think it comes down to playstyle. It’s a game, let’s have fun! Megagaming makes me dizzy. I personally love having a big kitten sword and destroying people with it.
However I am curious to try an Axe/Warhorn build similar to the Yojack one with a few modifications. I just need the money!
That said, you just can’t beat the (properly traited) GS for Orr farming. You can’t.
@daphoenix
What are your thoughts about the alleged upcoming nerfs by an interviewed developer in this thread?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Devs-Ele-s-too-good-nerfs-incoming
It talks almost exclusively about s/tPvP which I have absolutely no interest in but I’m worried it might cross over into the realms of PvE and/or WvWvW.
So the paid transfers thing worked? We’re playing serves with similar populations again? Yay!!!
Sorry been away from the game for two weeks.
I never used Lightning Hammer leveling up since I wanted to practice the mobility and combos of the D/D and it’s paid off! Leave Easy Mode to Guardians.
Can’t let this fall to the second page.
Tried WvWvW for the first time last night on my Elementalist (I wanted to make sure my gear was mostly in order first… which is still getting there) and man was that a blast! I was only defeated once and that’s because I Tornado-suicided into a group to push back the zerg. Great suggestion on Tornado, by the way! Nothing’s more fun than popping that skill when pushing the front line on a bridge. :-D The escape ability and mobility is incredible. I know D/D doesn’t do the greatest damage in the world but at the very least you’re a very good distraction, boon distributor, and instigator!
One of the things I liked most about World of Warcraft was the sense of community on one’s own server. That was hugely fostered by the existence of a forum for each server for members of that community to communicate with each other. For example I was on the Darkspear server in WoW and we Darkspeareans could have fun, talk smack, and otherwise communicate on our own separate forum.
Can we have that as well? You tend to see certain names out in the world and it would be nice to have an easy avenue to talk to each other outside of our already crowded chat box. I wanna talk to my fellow Yakies!
Yeah, I avoid underwater combat if at all possible on my Ele. It’s just painful.
And on a side note: Counting Crows rule!
It’s your thing. Do what you wanna do. I can’t tell you who to sock it to.
Took me quite a while to get a feel for what to use when as well but just from leveling and practicing your “rotation” you start to just do it instinctively.
5/6 pieces can come from karma. But yeah, 2 pieces from AC for the monk runes and rest karma is what I did. And get the wvw daggers if you do that sorta thing. They’re only around 250 badges.
You can also just get the AC daggers (much easier to get)
Just got mine last night (300 AC tears each) since I just hit 80 (yay). Now I’ve gotta actually explore Orr so I can access the temples for their karma gear.
@Kailoq – I see where you’re coming from with regards to pure damage output, but I personally think precision would be more beneficial in conjunction with the trait that has a 33% chance to grant Vigor on crit. That’s 2% more damage (traited properly) plus quicker endurance regen which means more dodges which means more heals (or earthquakes, or blinds, or useless flame bursts)! But I guess it depends on your playstyle.
There’s only a 51 point difference in precision, which roughly translates into a 2.5% difference in crit chance. With crit damage on the other hand, each time you crit you’ll deal 182% damage, rather than 170%. Evasive arcana has a longer cooldown than vigor regen, even when running with just 30% crit chance. Where are you getting that 2% damage from?
The 2% damage comes from the Water 25 trait that gives you 2% damage per boon. Probably should’ve worded that better.
Either way it depends on your playstyle. I like to dodge a lot, even if it doesn’t proc EA every time. I can certainly understand your desire for more crit damage because it scales wonderfully! I just hit 80 so in my foray into WvWvW I tend to be more defensive as I get used to my new surroundings. Once I get comfortable I’ll likely shift around gear to get more damage.

Charrs are too big for my tastes. I know you’re going the same speed but it seems like you’re going a lot slower. Asura are fun but I prefer my Human.
It should also be noted that you can get Karma Armor that is PVT (identical stats to the AC set) from the Temples in Orr! All but the Shoulders and Pants, anyway (and daggers).
Source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Seeking-Level-80-Armor-Advice-Please
PVT armor is key as a dead elementalist is a useless elementalist. If you want more damage output, though, maybe go for Knight’s or even Berzerker’s jewelry.
D/D is melee. Without mobility, people would be able to kite us easily and suddenly Anet would need to bestow eles mobility again, as it would ruin the D/D weapon set.
We can’t switch to scepter or staff in order to hit opponents at long range (Mesmers, Rangers etc. etc.) as other professions can, remember? Something for something. Way too much whining for no good reason, folks.
This. However I do kinda concede that the cooldown on RTL is a bit too low. Maybe increase it by at least 5 seconds and people will stop belly-aching over it.
For me EA is just too good to pass up even post-nerf, not to mention the extra boon duration from going 30 into Arcana.
Oh wow, thanks! I can just get Legs and Shoulders from AC now (as well as the daggers) and then use my buttload of Karma from those vendors! Thanks!
Fix pathing on RTL and MG. That’s so annoying.
Which Karma pieces provide PVT? How does it compare to the AC gear? I only have around 400 tears right now and if I could supplement my AC gear with Karma temple gear (I have a crap ton of Karma) that would get me WvW ready so much quicker!
@Crempa – Copy and paste the links into your address bar.

It’s a convenience issue that would be handy, but there are far bigger fish to fry with the class (RTL and MG pathing for example). It’s not hard to pop open the H screen and double-click on your Staff/Daggers quickly as it is.
You could always run AC exp a bunch of times (easy loot, gold, and FUN) and buy their whole PVT set for about 1200 ascalonian tears. That’s what I’m in the process of doing!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Mastering-the-D-D-ele-12-20-12
There’s a guide to leveling up in the early posts if you’re leveling as a D/D (as I did)
I’ve modified his method a little bit:
-First 5 points put in Water for the passive regen when attuned
-Next 10 put in Air for Zephyr’s Boon
-Then put 10 in Arcana for Elemental Attunement
-5 into Water for Soothing Disruption
-Buy first Manual
-5 into Arcana for Lingering Elements
-10 into Water for Cleansing Wave
-5 into Arcana for Renewing Stamina
-Buy second Manual
-10 into Arcana for Evasive Arcana
-10 into Water for Cleansing Water
Or modify mine or daphoenix’s method and make it your own. This game is all about whatever allows you to have the most fun!
I’m not convinced about the OP, but Arheundel is most definitely a troll.
I couldn’t care less about your opinion since it has been generally accepted that PvP stand for Player VS Player and the highest skill level of PvP is achieved in a controlled environment where all opponent start from an equal base and distinguish themself solely thx to the their skills…no special gear..no special weapons…END!
It’s like somebody trying to convince people that pigs can fly …pigs can’t fly..END!
Take a chill pill dude. Gettin a little too mad about this stuff. The air of elitism and “real pvp” isn’t helping anyone take you seriously.
I didn’t know about the in-combat rule. Thanks!
Is your character named Goldie Locks by chance?
What makes d/d so attractive for me (in exploration, anyway) is the near-permanent swiftness! Zoom zoom!
I’m level 71 now and I’m wondering if I should respec and trade the 10 final points in Water to get myself more acquainted with Evasive Arcana before I start abusing it in WvWvW. I’ve been doing fine with only 1 condition removal so far so… yep, I think I’ve talked myself into it.
That’s only applicable if you’re leveling D/D as I am, I noticed daphoenix converted after he was already 80. :-P
I plan on doing this with daphoenix’s build instead of Divinity Runes. Wouldn’t it be cheaper to use Runes of the Fire instead, though? The 2-rune abilities are identical for a fraction of the price on the trading post. Oh and don’t forget the Sigil of Battle for 3 stacks of might every attunement swap (cooldown of 10s)!
They’re like poisons in that respect. Bleed is the only DoT that stacks.
I prefer Knight’s, personally. The toughness is pretty much essential given how squishy we are and the power and precision make the d/d bunker build have a lot more kick to it (which is what I am). The AC PVT gear which daphoenix calls for is great for PvP but PvE/dungeon play is much more predictable so you shouldn’t need the vitality.
As far as gear, I have my character leveling alongside her tailoring skill. Whenever I reach an appropriate level I craft the Rare recipes with defensive stats (Hearty at 35 and 50, Knight’s at 65). That not only levels tailoring really quickly it basically keeps you adequately geared for 15 or so levels! Blues and Greens don’t keep up until it’s time for the new rare.
I disagree with your agree!
Kailoq, thanks for your feedbacks. The combo is cast Churning Earth then teleport with Lightning Flash to the front of the mobs. I misread Lightning Flash as RTL therefore unable to execute.
By the way, “Play lots of WvW/craft to gain levels too”. What and How to do for WvW specified to leveling? Thanks again for your advise.
I am not touching WvW until I hit 80 (64 now) because this build is so trait-reliant to be used to its maximum potential. Sure I could practice combos and such I suppose but then you’re getting used to life without EA!
Crafting is a huge help, though. I personally leveled Tailoring and Jewelcrafting! (And Cooking because it’s easy).
When someone asks you if you’re a god, you say YES!

This is all you will ever need to know about how to wtfpwn faces as a D/D elementalist.
~~~~~~~
Read the topic, did some sPvP for almost 2 hours and I had a blast! So far I only die if I let myself do so and I’m doing great in 1v1!
~~~~~~
Yay! Welcome to the club! D/D has a very low skill floor but a very high skill ceiling meaning to be decent you need to be a good player but if you are a great player you can really become incredibly powerful!
Or for anyone bored of the traditional “tank and spank” method of online gaming!

Heh Okay here’s what happened @Mahanaxar. I don’t remember the details too clearly but generally…
I was in a dredge infested mine, exploring. There was a bugged event downstairs, something about blowing the supports so the mine shaft would collapse sealing the mine complex or whatever. Problem is you couldn’t interact with anything, and mobs were re-spawning about 30 seconds after you killed them. Of course being the genius that I am, I chose that moment to go exploring the mine since I couldn’t do the event.
So, in that context here’s what I did… Came up to the start of a walkway, killed 2 dredge. They are in pairs mostly, one with the gong, one with the rifle and the occasional wandering construct that summons more dredge. So I killed the 2 started my way up a spiralling narrow walkway to the top and ran in to two more.
Easy I thought. Earth 5, Lightning flash, Earth 4, Fire 2… They’re taking a ton of damage at this point, but then their buddies downstairs aggro and come from behind while the gong guy stuns me. The new gong guy stuns me again right after so I break the stun with the utility skill… ( Not sure if its a daze or a confuse? Can’t remember it happened so quickly.) By this point I’m thinking its time to reposition so I can set up a Fire 4 combo and nuke them to kingdom come so I dodge forward… Smack in to a wandering construct that was coming around the corner. He starts summoning more dredge so I’m overrun by this point, seven of the little pricks all out for my blood, all on a very narrow walkway. Time to beat a hasty retreat!
So I switch to lightning thinking I’ll RTL to the furthest one and then run to lose aggro! But… I missed targeting him and RTL took me right over the edge. A longgg way down… Splat. Hahaha. I fell right in front of a guardian. Think I gave him a fright, ball of lightning drops in front of him from above and a flashes then a dead body appears. SO embarrassing! In hindsight, I should have used mist for instead of RTL for more control while trying to escape but bleh.
Yes its an extenuating circumstance but I get into a lot of situations like this in game. Heh its actually why I really love the PvE, you get yourself in to so much trouble. This is what I mean by space… Whenever I try to set up a Fire 4 combo I need a little space to get things rolling. It was mostly my own mistake yes but yeahhh… Space. I love how dynamic the build is in open world but with an S/D condition build I find I don’t quite need as much space since you’re mostly stationary when setting up fire 4 burst combos.
Its probably me getting used to the fact that dagger fire 3 moves you quite a distance, so I’m a little afraid to use it sometimes. Also possibly because I didn’t have access to evasive arcana yet so I couldn’t make full use of the blast finishers. Hence… I want to give the build another go when I hit 80.
Ah, well fortunately dungeons don’t usually reflect the most annoying dredge cave (and environment, IMO) in the entire freakin game! I know exactly where you’re talking about and I hate that place.
In situations like you described it’s almost better to utilize the d/d’s supreme escape ability and run for it. In places where there’s ledges and just in general it’s always key to be completely aware of your surroundings. I too don’t use RTL or Burning Speed unless I am absolutely certain I’ll land it. If you’re just wanting to explore that area and don’t wanna deal with the mobs it might be best to just alternate shock and frost auras for the swiftness to just run in and out!
I used to like that traditional mage feel. But D/D ele is so much better, more active, mobile, fun etc. Who wants to spec into one element lol. One of the bad things in gw1 was that you had to spec into a single element. GW2 is much better in that aspect including all elements when you play, as an elementalist should.
Never played GW1 but I’m glad 2 went the route it did. I love being a whirling dervish of elemental death! It’s just a lot more fun to be running around swapping attunements and making combos than sitting in the back and just hitting the same button over and over like WoW.
Not really. A mesmer is nothing without its clones. It’s integral to the mesmer’s gameplay and if you were able to rally by finishing off the piddly hp of a clone it would not be a viable class at all. A conjured elemental, however, is just a utility skill that you can choose or not choose to utilize.
Yes, but like Strang said…if that’s true, it basically makes summons utterly worthless in WvW. Even more so if enemies rally whenever it gets repositioned if you move to far from it.
Oh I agree and it should be fixed. I still prefer Tornado’ing people off cliffs, though. :-P
