Here’s a wild idea — just go into WvW and try it out. You can still use the skills, and there’s random mobs that hang around that you can hit. Have none of you actually played WvW and just assumed?
Yes, many of us have tried WvW and have spent enough time in there to know what’s what. That doesn’t mean that is how we spend 95% of our hours in-game. How fun would it be for us who do NOT like it to go in and try the new builds only be dead in 20 seconds? Try the training dummies? Yeah, that is loads of fun. A good way to spend the weekend, right?
And, how fair would that be to the new specs themselves. We seldom participate in this form of play so how would we judge the fun factor or viability for each of them?
All we are asking is why the spec beta is not going to be available for the other large portion of the population. I remember trying the Revenant out in Frostgorge and other areas of Tyria. If that isn’t possible, why not just let us use the demo area to try them out?
After my weekend of trying to play as much as I could while not rapter riding, I was really looking forward to trying the specializations.
From an unbiased perspective, since the great majority of players in this game are pve based primary players, this makes the above point very fair and relevant.
Sure, but let me reiterate. There’s PvE mobs in WvW. There’s random monsters in some areas that you can fight and try out your skills. You claim to know WvW, so I would assume you’d know that. You don’t need to fight other players in there to try the skills, so I’m really not sure why you think that’s what I said.
I don’t even play WvW (except for when I was working on my legendary) or PvP, but I’m not crying about having to go in there to try them. Get over it or just wait for the expansion to be available.
I’m sorry I wasn’t clear when I said I know what’s what in wvw. I KNOW there are mobs that can be killed. I also know that as soon as some people go in and start trying to hunt and kill those mobs many wvw players will be on us like locusts. It will be great fun for them and rage inducing for us. Overall not an optimal way to test anything.
I’m just wishing this next weekend would have not been exclusively wvw/pvp map(s).

I am not a great player, I don’t even think I am a good player but I got through the story slowly but surely. I was downed once but restarted at check point and went at it again being even more careful with my pulls after that. I am a ranger in exotic gear and a haphazard build which I enjoy. I found it very hard but doable.
Today I went in and tried some of the suggested fixes. My Motion Blur was already off and my Field of View was set about 80% of max distance – I maxed it. I had less symptoms today but I stayed out of towns except long enough to go grab a bounty. And, even so, I still had to stop and go get the anti nausea meds again.
My problem isn’t the bouncing/bobbing, it is the turning left and right. It is just too jerky.
I have played several other games with mounts – WoW, Rift, SWtOR for example- and I have not had this issue while riding. So I know it can be done and I have hope that this can be fixed.
And to answer someone’s question on how we play other games – trial and error. Beta’s are great to rule out the pukey (literally) ones but that is not always an option. We have bought many games through the years that never got more than a couple hours of play.
I often get motion sickness when playing video games so I avoid the areas within GW2 that can trigger that. I do JP’s only when “forced” by circumstances and even then I can often coerce my husband to do them for me.
(Steak dinner works every time)
So when I got on the raptor today, I did so with much trepidation. And, it turns out I had good reason. It was a horrible experience. I have taken anti-nausea pills throughout the day because, dog gone it, I want to play this darned thing!
The problem for me seems to be how the rapter changes directions. I can go in fairly straight lines out in the open landscape and feel comfortable but as soon as I change directions, everything starts to tilt and my stomach roils.
I already have my Motion Blur at its lowest setting. I don’t know what else to do. It really saddens me to think that these mounts are going to be necessary to access certain places/areas.
Gaile, thanks for merging the threads so it can be seen by more people. And, hopefully, something can be done.
I am hoping they disable mounts in towns just like gliding is disabled in some areas. I am looking forward to mounts out in the open world but in towns it is nothing but an annoyance. Most of us already have experience with mounts standing at a bank, a trading post, etc. so we don’t have to “wait and see” how it will be. We know.
Please, Anet, if there is any way you can do this, it will save a lot of bad feelings and harrassment of other players.
Kicked one for more than 300 times (didn’t start counting until I’d already kicked it many, many times). Went back today and tried again, stopping at about 30. Not going to try again until I see they put a fix in for it.
Another question if I need to make another thread I will but trying here first…
Is there a way we can gift him the full version of the game and he can upgrade using the ftp account?
Thanks! We will go through all of this later today when we are all back in game.
Thanks, everyone. We will try going through all the steps again this evening. Now that I am sure he can see/use guild chat we will start over at the beginning.
We invited him into our personal bank guild to test it out and went through the chat options to make sure he had everything checked that was needed but still no go. Of course, it is difficult to know that our explanation was good enough to get it across the phone lines to him. I just wanted to make sure it should or should not work before we keep trying. I don’t want to frustrate him with something that isn’t even supposed to work.
Thanks for the input.
I have a friend who is trying out the game. I have checked the wiki and it says he can join a guild but guild chat is not listed as locked or available. Can ftp users chat in /g.
The color of these wings is exactly what I have been waiting for since the first winged back piece went on sale. I love the color so much but I HATE the dropping hearts and that is only in glider form. Makes me so sad.
Play normally, any additional progress you make won’t be lost. Any additional XP from rediscovering the same POIs and waypoints will also be retained once your characters are fixed.
The current plan is to repair all affected characters during work hours on Monday. I finished doing several tests and passes against the game databases to ensure we know who is affected and what they lost.
Those affected should be receiving an email in the next couple days with information on how this restore process will happen. For those that don’t want to wait for that email, the process is pretty simple:
We plan on temporarily blocking access to your game account. During this time we will perform the repairs and run some quick tests to ensure everything went smoothly. I don’t expect this process to take longer than an hour or so.
I’m also doing my best to ensure that those affected are compensated for the inconvenience this has caused. No promises on what that entails, as I have no control over that.
-Bill
Thank you so much for this information. As someone so eloquently put it above, this “know nothingness” was the worst!
<snip> I recommend that people with affected characters play other characters that are not fog-afflicted until we resolve these symptoms. If you wish to continue playing refogged characters it is very unlikely to cause any problems. We will fix your account during time that you are logged-out or after a hotfix.
Testing and deploying our change may take a day or more, but your refogged state is repairable.
An ETA is still unknown.
Other than logging in my affected character to see if anything had changed (it hadn’t, of course) I sit with my hands tied, so to speak. Last night I took a 2nd character to VB to at least have something to do but I tell you my heart was not in it. I miss my little Asuran Tempest. I miss her saying “I’m still smarter than you.” when downed.
Can we get an update, please?
Hello… anybody out there??
Crying over a single bug, such as this is silly. Just don’t play in the HoT maps till fixed. Simple. There’s loads of other content out there.
Seriously???? We can’t play the EXPANSION that we have anticipated for so long with the characters we have worked on getting their specializations and builds set up for the last 2 weeks and we are being “silly”?
Same here. HELP!
Same here. Also, specialization reset.
Hello Fellow Players;
After going through several threads and have couple of reverts from the Technical team over a OOM Crash ticket, there are a few things that comes up:
1. The game is now almost unplayable at 32-bit system and the players need to upgrade to a 64-bit system if they wish to continue playing as the new patches won’t let users play smoothly in a 32-bit system
2. If the streaming is going on, it can lead to crashes
Hence I wish to ask players two questions:
Q1. Are there any players who are playing in 64-bit system and also experiencing similar OOM crashes?
Q2. Are there players whose game is completely downloaded and they still experience similar OOM crashes?
Regards
Eagelseye
As stated in the other thread:
Q1. Yes. 64 bit here
Q2. Yes, I always let the download complete before playing
You can multiply this by 2 because the same scenario holds true for my husband and we both are experiencing crashes at a rate of at least once an hour and that is being generous to the game.
I have been asked by the developers over my ticket response that upgrading to 64-bit client will solve the problem. I am unable to do the same. Hence I requested for a refund. I just wonder that all 64-bit users dont experience such crash issues and all the players experiencing the same are either 32-bit Window or Mac users?
My husband and I are both running 64 bit and we are both suffering from the constant crashes.
Anyway, saying it is a 32bit issue would not be correct, at least it isn’t the only issue, obviously.
Is your game completely patched and no downloads in the client going on?
Sorry, I did a ninja edit even before seeing your question.

Edit: Also wanted to add that I always wait until the patch is complete before entering the game. So that isn’t the cause of my problems either.

Same here. Every patch that says “fixed a client crash” I think, okay this will fix my problem, but no. I can’t get thru one complete participation cycle without crashing and coming back in to zero progress. Don’t get me wrong, getting set back to zero is secondary to this constant crashing. Every crash I obediently “send report to Anet” hoping this will help.
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

To be fair, they told us that elite specs would require Hero Points to unlock, all the way back when they did the last trait system change (to specializations). People have speculated that we would need at least 145 points (the current cost of a spec and skill line that contains an elite skill) for the elite spec. They never retracted that statement, only further enforced it, that HPs would be necessary. So people have been doing hero challenges in preparation.
We just weren’t expecting it to cost quite that much….
Yes, I knew it would require hero points but I didn’t realize I would have to have every other thing trained before even starting on the Elite spec, right? For example I only ever use my elementalist’s Fire and Water skill lines and have never trained heavily in the Earth or Air areas. So, the skill points I assumed I could use for the Elite will now have to be flushed down the lines I have desire for or need of.

Noooooo….Colin…..difficulty wise the expansion is only for the top notch players….players like me, players like me who are clutzes… will never get a chance at the Elite specs…I am seriously about to cry here.
I bought the expansion, I did the Betas, I fell in love with Reaper, and Berzserker, and scrapper….I, I, I have been farming Hero Points on all my 33 plus characters like a mad thing….I learned to Jump up to Vistas well enough to get Map Complete on one of my characters, and now…..now I am told that the door to the elites have been slammed shut in my face.
Look at my account and you will see all the work I have done. Look at my buying History, I have been a..what do you call it?..a whale? I have played almost every day for three years….
I, I, I am sorry I am old enough to your Grandma and have lousy coordination…Darn, I am crying now…seriously. I was looking forward to this so much……
Lisa.
I could have written this. I am exactly like you. I love this game. I play almost every day. I have lousy coordination and many facets of the game are not available to me through my own limitations. I am not even sure I will be able to play in the Jungle due to the motion sickness that hit me every beta weekend after only a few hours in those tight quarters.
But, even if I couldn’t make through the jungle content I was so looking forward to the new specs… the scrapper.. the tempest.. etc. Which I found out today won’t be available to me.
How disappointing.
I thought this was a one-time authentication as long as you don’t change locations or someone else doesn’t try to log in to your account. However, today, both my husband and me have been asked to enter authorization codes. We received them via phone no problem; just a little concerned as to WHY we had to authenticate again.
Oh, and neither of us have rebooted our machines so we should not have a different IP than we had at lunchtime yesterday. (Of course, my knowledge of IP acquisition is rudimentary lol)
Same has been happening to me during the Order of Whispers (level 40) chapter.
Thank you!! It works!
This is frustrating because my husband and I both started new little Asuras to level together. We did forget and started in different colleges so we were each doing our separate Level 10 stories and after that, hopefully, go back to leveling together. Now he has completed his and I am stuck. Hopefully before he is ready for the next chapter this will be fixed and I can get mine done and join for that one.
Using the wiki to explain:
Piece Negotiations is part of the personal story for asura characters who have chosen the College of Statics.
Study the artifact detected by the VOED. (done)
Speak with Krewe Chief Pokka back at your lab. (done)
Complete the VOED calibration sequence. (No longer part of the story or just didn’t happen)
Subdue the Inquest infiltrator. (done)
Interrogate the Inquest infiltrator. (done)
Set up defenses to stop the Inquest attack. (done)
Defeat the Inquest attackers. (done)
Shore up the lab’s defenses. (done)
Defeat the Inquest attackers. ***waiting*** (2nd wave never happens)
I have restarted this 3 times even logging completely to desktop and trying again. I did submit a bug report but thought, perhaps, someone may already be aware and can offer a fix or work around.

No, a thousand times, no.
Many of us came to GW2 to escape that very thing.
I feel bad for people who get vertigo in games.
As I watched in amazement and awe during the PAX stream, this worry niggled at my brain throughout and ever since. My husband and I both suffer from motion sickness that can be triggered during jumping puzzles, trying to get to vistas, etc. So I am hoping there will be ways into the canopy that doesn’t always involve jumping. I’d hate to miss out on that.
And, again two fractals.
I can see the title change has already brought forth the intended result.
However not everyone is that skilled. My mother plays the game with me sometimes and she would never be able to solo a fractal no matter how easy it may seem to others. And like me WvW makes her uncomfortable (and again I don’t play a game to be uncomfortable I play to enjoy myself).
I really don’t think your mother is concerned by +10 AP in her account every day. So, doing 2 out of 4 items in her daily and receiving something for doing it is far better than the previous system, when you had to complete more items to receive a laurel + mystic coin.
Because you know my mom better then me amrite? No she didn’t care about 10 AP in the sense she was a hunter but it was nice for her to feel like there was something she was accomplishing IG. It was nice for her to feel like she was achieving something where most other achievements were out of her reach. Being able to complete more dailies, not less, services that role far better then rewards she won’t ever use. Again why is it so terrible an idea that dailies be accessible to more people inside the new system?
Just because someone doesn’t participate in all aspects of the game doesn’t mean they aren’t concerned with AP points. I may be even more in need of those daily AP points than those who have no trouble with fractals, pvp or wvw.
I am not the mother in question but Tactical could have just as well be talking about me. We need more choices for our 3 dailies. I don’t pvp or wvw so I don’t have 12 options to choose from, only the 4.
I just hope they are reading this thread all these days later.
(edited by Mala.3861)
I have let time pass as I adjusted to the new Daily system. At first I was not really happy because, well, I just don’t like changes, I admit it. But as the days went by I thought this wasn’t bad at all and have been ok with the new dailies.
Until today. Today, 2 of the 4 PVE dailies are related to fractals. I don’t do fractals. So, today for the first time in a very long time I will not be completing my daily unless I force myself to do something that I do not wish to do.
I hope someone is still reading this thread after all this time because this is exactly the thing I feared when the change went in. Never should 2 of the 4 choices be tied to something such as fractals. Or, add more choices so we can get the Completionist without being forced into something we don’t want to do.
You know you play too much gw2 when you dream about escorting Pack Bulls, keep them alive but never get to the fort…. just keep escorting and escorting forever…
Woke up tired.
The OP echoes my thoughts exactly. I posted immediately after the changes went in with my utter disappointment of the changes and bafflement as to why some of them were done and just WHO was their test audience? (‘Look Mama! I make kittencat hit big birdy!’. = Perfect!)
I said at the time and I will say again, there is now nothing in the “new player experience” that would make me want to remain to find out all this wonderful game has to offer. Tedium, it is.
The new gems for gold conversion is horrible.
Other than reverting it back to its original form, I really don’t have any suggestions.
I just know it is way too expensive for the casual/new player to afford gold/gems the way it is now. I have never had enough gold to use on buying gems, even with the old method. I can’t imagine being a new player today and look at that conversion page and feel anything but defeat at being able to afford even the lowest amount of gems available to them.
I remember the first time I saw Diving Goggles, conveniently placed on the precipice of a ledge above some water.
After the initial shock wore off, I stood staring down at them, my mind racing to comprehend their meaning, Literally a couple of possibilities swirled around my tiny brain but it was too much. Exhausted, I logged off.
I went for a walk just to clear my mind. The image of those goggles haunted me as I walked along the path, teasing me with their impenetrable puzzle. I saw the moon and the stars, and it dawned on me. Just like the endless mysteries of the universe, I was not meant to understand. In another life, in another time – maybe.
I had looked upon those goggles on that ledge like a mouse looks upon Michaelangelo’s David. They were simply too huge to comprehend, to hold their full meaning in my head would be like holding the sea in a teacup.
Sometimes I still dream about them, and the ledge. In the dream, the water below rushes up to meet me, an epiphany promised within its depths – but then I wake up, and the dream, like the answers, fade away.
Awesome!!
And, diving goggles, really???
We are trying our best to communicate with you or with anyone who will listen. Right now my favorite part of the game has been gutted. Well and truly gutted. Yes, we need communication but we need it about the issues and concerns that have covered the front page of this forum.
Edit: Well, I see that while I typed the decision was made. That is really disappointing to see. The CDI was re-introduced because of a backlash of complaints about non-communication. How is communicating on a topic agreed upon before we were aware of what happened to us yesterday really communicating at all? It is almost the opposite of the original intention. <sigh> or maybe not
(edited by Mala.3861)
I can not see my feet, either. Others in my guild have said the same.
And, some of my hair colors do not show correction on the character log in screen.
I am an altoholic. I love playing alts but unless something changes, I think I am done.
Someone suggested an option for us veteran players to be able to turn off the options; however, while I think this would be great for us veterans, I cringe at the thought of a new player trying out my beloved GW2 and be welcomed by the mind-numbing boredom I just experienced leveling a new one to level 10. No way will I take this character any further. These first 10 levels gave every indication that the rest of the game has nothing but tedium ahead.
I hope someone with some insight into what players really enjoy looks into this and has the ability to say, “Well, we screwed up on this one.” And revert it back to it’s original glory.
I hope this is not intentional.
I sarcastically said in a thread about the new leveling that maybe their goal was to make the game more boring. Removing animations would certainly add to the boredom factor.
Yes, please! Let me turn it off!
I used almost the same words as the OP. Words can not express how sad I am about the changes in leveling. Leveling alts and obsessively playing lowbies are things I love about this game. Last night I started a new one to try out the new features. I was faced with the gut-wrenching reality that my favorite part of the game has been taken from me.
Was the goal to make leveling extremely boring and tedious? Well done.
I was told last night: Changes always happen, you have to adapt.
My answer to this is: It’s like being told we no longer have ice cream. Here, have some liver. Adapt.
Yes, too many commander tags. Almost every map I zone in to looks like I have fallen into a bowl of Fruit Loops!
Devs, please, please, please give us an option to turn it off from our Options menu.
Please, I beg you!
Lags and disconnects, lags and disconnects, since the weekend the game has become almost unplayable for me. I have had lag spikes last so long I have assumed I lost connection only to suddenly have the game come back to life and find myself dead.
What is going on??
I will be honest and admit I didn’t read the OP. Even though I seem to be dealing with more and more disappointments within the game, I’m still playing and not looking to leave… yet.
It is important that people be allowed to post these type of posts that offer their reasons on leaving the game. It’s important for the game developers to know the thoughts of this person because I would bet money his thoughts are shared by many who do not frequent these forums and, when the time comes, they will just stop logging in and move on.
I remember another game I played for several years. A patch went live and many, many people were unhappy with what was presented to us. Complaints were posted, many constructively, many not. Going away threads were posted and promptly locked. If I could, I posted on each and every one of them saying for every one of theses posts there were many leaving. My guild was dwindling and soon, my husband and I were the only ones left. None of my friends ever posted an I’m outa here post. And, when the time came, neither did I.
I have wished for an option to turn it off since the first day I saw one floating around my LA map. And, today, while they were waiting for the new map to open it looked like a hoard of blue insects were infesting my map. Talk about MASSIVELY obtrusive!
There are times when I want to see a commander’s tag; however, if I have to look at it even when I don’t want to, so should he/she.
Give us all the option to turn it off, please.
