I concur, “wow” is the proper term to describe this patch – and I haven’t even tried the new fractal yet
/thanks
Tengu are cool but I still prefer largos. Considering I still don’t have a charr or an asura character, tengu would probably go to waste in my hands. I seem to prefer characters that are more humanoid, for whatever reason.
However, I can’t deny that there would be a whole lot of customization options for a tengu character.
I’d really hope they do this! It will keep the game going and make it easy for new people.
All this stufd about “betraying” those of us that bought it before it went free is nonsense! We paid to have the content much earlier and by making it easy for new players they are really just protecting our investment.
I want to be playing this game for years to come, if Anet wants to keep the game marketable to new players then I am more than happy.
This.
The way I see it, I paid for the core game and I played it for 3 years already before HoT was added. Already got my money’s worth of gameplay and I was more than happy to buy HoT as well, even if new players got both the core game and the expansion for the same amount of money. If they do the same with any new expansions, I don’t mind at all.
You can’t play HoT unless you have the core game as well and they need to lure in new players anyway to keep the game healthy.
Lol sure.
Yet another legendary druid. Too bad we all know that 5 > 3 trick nowUltima Troll worst teammate you’ll ever come across on EU. Calling people names and afking lol.
Also, this^ Should probably report you for the bug…oh wait, no. Exploit abuse like the rest druids
Are you guys talking about blasting the water field? I don’t understand how that is a bug though? Isn’t it mentioned on the tooltip as well?
I’d like to thank Anet for the new hairstyles as well, in my case, the new human male ponytail-hairstyle. It completed the looks of my revenant so thank you!
I think some people are confusing lazy with casual.
Casual means you barely even care about most of the things offered by the game and just want to have fun the couple of hours (or less) that you usually play.
As stated by others already, none of the harder content is mandatory. You just want the shinies at the end and that tricks you into thinking the content is mandatory.
Basically, if you think it’s too much work just stop working towards it.
The only thing that is not for casuals is the raid, if you ask me. HoT maps are only hard if you try to solo everything. Get a group together and you’ll be fine.
I think it’s great that Anet is trying to cater to both casuals and “hardcore” players. I see some players on my f-list who are utterly addicted to the new raid and do it nearly everyday. They have never been happier. Why take that away from them?
So Tempest /Chrono and Reaper are going stay broken while Rev got shafted? (Because it’s one of the few spec that can actually hurt mesmer atm)
Look at your game Anet
I’m actually more concerned about Tempest than Chrono.
I can’t seem to kill a good Tempest on certain professions, Mallyx Rev was an exception, and likewise, my Tempest cannot be killed by certain professions/builds.
How can you get the people in HOTM to read this thread?
If most soloQs applied even just the very first point made by the OP, I think the quality of our matches will improve drastically.
This pretty much.
I would still like to add: Have team chat on and read it even if you don’t plan to communicate yourself.
These guilds conning the system repeatedly and making a mockery of it all
Unfortunately, it’s much, much worse. Those teams do not make a mockery of the League system, because the system is a mockery completely on its own. It is designed in such a way, that cheating and manipulating the system (while deplorable) is the only reasonable way to progress through it. If it couldn’t be manipulated, and worked perfectly, nobody (besides random outliers) would ever progress past Emerald.
In short, people cheat because the whole system is broken as kitten. Which is completely, 100% Anet’s fault.
Well yesterday I had a necro on my team who had no clue what they were doing. No finishers, no revives, strange build that obviously didn’t work. At the end of the game I realised the necro was in sapphire division. I’m still stuck in emerald. Seems that if you’re bad you can progress via easier matchups and by getting carried.
Though I doubt they will progress further than sapphire.
I have no trouble believing this tbh. For one win there’s always at least 3 losses, games that are lost before they start based on matchmaking. One player can’t affect the outcome of the game much.
I know it sounds utterly stupid but I’ve held side points on a thief, sometimes even vs 2 players at once. If you can dodge and evade enough and don’t get cc’d too much you’re fine vs most builds. It’s all about what build you play really…
EDIT: Most thieves play D/P I’m guessing but only one in a million is actually good at what they’re doing. It’s easier to play war and stay alive on it compared to thief.
(edited by Maris.3164)
How can you tell if they’re throwing the game or if they’re just bad?
I’d rather not report, not knowing what the case is.
Don’t feel bad.
The people who specifically call you out are probably just frustrated by losses and don’t mean anything personal with their complaining.
5-10 minutes later they won’t remember your character name and you shouldn’t remember theirs either.
Take it easy and don’t let them get you down.
I hear it’s easier for less experienced players to progress in leagues since they get easier matchups. So then, it probably doesn’t matter if you get diamonds/rubys in your team as they can be worse than someone still stuck in sapphire.
But I don’t know.
sapphire was hard enough
now i’m facing better players, get worse players on my team and it becomes even
harder to rank up?doesn’t quite make sense, does it?
I think I’ll take back all my complaints about being stuck in Emerald…
My sympathies to you.
Don’t feel disheartened, you’re not alone.
I have about 50% winrate and most of my games look like this as well.
When I do lose I can say with almost 100% certainty that it was due to imbalanced teams. I get people who don’t understand what they’re doing, or they play bad builds. And the opposition is almost always decent or good.
I’ve seen my team zerg on one point vs 1 or 2 players whilst we have no points running. They basically leave me to cap and decap alone vs 3 or 4 players.
Yesterday I played one game in Kyhlo. I did great at far, managing to hold it for my team nearly the entire game, killing their players on the point over and over. I saw my team fighting on both mid and close without much success but didn’t want to give up one sure point in favor of helping them.
Most of my teammates died at mid when they tried to cap it. Towards the end of the game (we were losing) our engi finally said ’they’ve been firing treb at mid for 10mins or so’. No one communicated about the treb before that. They basically went there over and over again to die without even trying to go and destroy the treb or help cap close.
I’ve been stuck in Emerald tier 4 for a couple of days now and I doubt I’ll progress further than that.
If you hate PvP and only play unranked for your dailies, why are you affected by leagues? Leagues are only in ranked and you can still play unranked for your dailies.
Because they added the Ascension wings ONLY to ranked PvP, meaning the only way to get them is by doing ranked PvP matches, no matter how horrible it may be.
As I said, I’d like nothing better than for them to remove that requirement so that we wouldn’t have to do PvP.
This is a real shame tbh.
Most of the pvp players probably couldn’t care less about the backpack and just want to play pvp. And pve players couldn’t care less about pvp and just want the wings
Do you guys think the league system would work better if you got 2 pips for winning by default and lost 1 pip when you lose?
I’m not a pro but I’m not bad either. I have around 50% winrate and most of my games go: win-lose-win-lose with occasional loss/win streaks here and there. Some of my games are doomed from the start based on the matchup, or this is how I feel at least.
I don’t feel like I achieved anything when I win because I know I’ll lose progress if I lose my next game. Except for when I get 2 pips for a win.
As it stands, it’s way better than the ranked system we had before.
It’s not hard to be marginally better than “crap”. kitten Anet apologists.
This pretty much. But it doesn’t matter how good you are if you soloq because you will still get an occasional bad player (or more than one) that will drag the team down with them.
My issue with the league system is when you win one game and lose the next one. That one loss wipes away your progress, unless you got 2 pips for that one win.
I would like it better if by default you got 2 pips when you win and lost 1 pip when you lose. For me, I get mostly win-lose-win-lose with occasional win or lose streaks that have some 3-5 wins or losses in a row so unless I get 2 pips for a win most of my games don’t get me anywhere.
Or warriors could be pets for thieves. Two +1 birds with one stone.
I think the Mordremoth fight made sense. One of the NPC’s stated we can’t just burn the jungle down to kill him because he’s spread too far and the roots would grow back. So instead we fought him in his mind while the Pact forces were battling the Mouth and keeping him busy.
The problem with this event is to get everyone on the map to actually join the event, or leave the map to make room for players who want to do the event. After that the problem is organizing and whether or not people listen.
Also I would like to point out that tequatl was nerfed considerably and is a breeze now, especially since you can crit him now too. Prior to megaserver and the nerfs, only a couple of servers were considered worth joining for the event. Does “Taxi to Deso main” sound familiar?
I personally don’t think this is such a huge problem.
You still get rewarded just for trying the bosses.
Tbh thief should murder any viper rev. Ez prey. Right as they swap to Mallyx, steal stab and unload burst. But cause everyone and their mom thinks thief is in bad spot (it inst) viper revs can run and counter other braindead condi classes and dont worry about being bursted 100-0
So that’s why so many thieves are running P/P now. Not that I’ve seen any of these thieves win 1v1 yet. I think it’s just the stun there that can kill the rev tbh. If timed right when the rev is low on health you should have a free kill.
As long as you get punished for playing good, you will see people trying to manipulate their mmr.
The whole mmr system is flawed, has been flawed forever, will be flawed forever because anet is just incapable of writing anything but mediocre algorithms.
Have you read the algorithm?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_AlgorithmIt’s actually decent, the main problem with it coming from the low population, especially during the night. It’s not even thanks to Arenanet: Glicko 2 is an excellent way of sorting people in 1v1 games. If you soloq in a team game, well, you need a lot of time to get to your final MMR, but all of this is pretty normal.
The problem here lies in the league system. You need win streaks to progress in leagues, while your MMR does a good job of putting you in games where you have around a 50/50 chance of winning. So if all goes well (and for most solo queuers it does, given we’re a lot), you should rarely be able to win 5 games in a row: you’d have a 3% chance of such event happening.
A possible solution: sorting games. You play ten games, with very versatile MMR, and the outcome of those ten games decides in which league you are.
I agree with what you said about the league system, however I disagree with low population being the problem with matchmaking.
Yesterday I had a ranger in my team who didn’t know why he was supposed to go to close at start. I told him to simply cap the point and he then asked if Temple was the close point. He did not res or do finishers, nor did he manage to win 1v1 and constantly needed help just to survive.
I play during EU prime time when there should be enough people around to get a proper matchmaking. Sadly, most of my games had at least one or more of these kind of players who didn’t know what they were doing.
Funny thing is, the enemy team always seems to consist of people with:
A. experience
B. decent composition
C. elite specs in use
EDIT: I did play on revenant (only a few games played on it) at first and had terrible luck with matchmaking. When I swapped to my mesmer (almost 500 games played in total) the rest of the games were all wins although rather easy ones. The matchmaking seemed to improve a lot when it came to my teammates.
(edited by Maris.3164)
I haven’t had that many games vs premades (I think?), but I’ve noticed I get nothing but newbies on my team all of the time.
A ranger was asked to cap close at start and he then asked ‘what for?’ Come on Anet, this player can’t possibly be at the same skill level with me. What’s worse, the enemy team seems to consist of actually good or at least decent players nearly every game.
Nope, HoT maps aren’t solo friendly. What do you want Anet to do about it? “Hardcore” players have asked for harder content for two years or so. To nerf the content now would be letting down the players who wanted harder content and were also promised it by Anet. The very people who bought HoT because harder content was promised.
Should Anet make more casual friendly content then? They have already catered for casuals for 3 years now but sure, why not. When they have the time.
Honestly though, I wouldn’t say the actual content on the maps is hard aside from maybe King of the jungle in TD. Some or most of the content just isn’t soloable. Joining or creating a guild (maybe just for casual players?) isn’t a bad idea.
Hmm, its almost like when you cater to one kind of demographic that that demographic grows larger. Then you switch it up, charge people full price for an expansion that is suddenly tailored for the minority of players, and act surprised that people are kittened?
They released an expansion that went directly against what they’ve been building up over the years and hyped their game to be before it even came out. It’s stupid to say “well, you got yours now we hardcore player tiny minority deserve to get ours”, because the hardcore crowd doesnt pay the bills.
If all the “casual” players would up and leave, and just the “hardcore” players would stick around, i can promise you GW2 will be shut down before Q3 2016.
You are right, the majority of the players are casual.
However, everybody knew that HoT content would be slightly more challenging than the central Tyrian content as Anet was very much open about it. It wasn’t “suddenly” tailored to “hardcore” players, this was known all along. This is what was asked of them. Players demanded it and Anet delivered. I didn’t see anyone complaining back then when it was announced that the expansion content would be more challenging.
Furthermore I find it shortsighted and well, selfish to say ‘because we are the majority, we should always get what we want regardless of what others want.’ Anet is trying to cater to both types of players. I don’t see an issue with that.
I personally don’t think the content in HoT is really that hard. The difficulty comes in when you want to solo absolutely everything. You cannot and you should accept it. For random exploring and story all you need is one friend to help you out if you really are struggling.
Would it be too much of a trouble to ask a friend to join in and help with hero points? Or wait around for others to show up? I highly doubt people will stop running the events or doing the hero points on HoT maps anytime soon and there’s always someone willing to help if you do find yourself alone.
I’ve done this numerous times… Usually after spending a few hours in a HoT map.
inb4 cultural outfits -_-
NEW IN THE GEM STORE! Get yours today for ONLY 9000 gems!
But wait, there’s more! Order now and we’ll include: bundle of item boosters, 5, not 4, 3, 2, or 1, but 5 black lion keys, a makeover kit, and a mini-pet that you’ll probably never give a crap about for only 2000 more gems! Act fast while supplies last.
I have to be honest here. I bought the Bandit pack because I wanted the outfit. I was very disappointed I had to pay extra for stuff that I didn’t really want or need.
I hope they don’t plan to make more of these packs with an outfit+loads of stuff you could buy separately if you wanted to.
God you people are sad. Mallyx is only bad in some ridiculous theorycrafting. In practice he’s amazing. Start playing Mallyx on a regular basis and you’ll how amazing the Legend is.
What use elite for Mallyx has, other than triggering trait? Whats the point of holding conditions on yourself as well? For now all i see is banish spam and vs condi classes pain spam. Either way just a spam on a legend and traitline that doesnt know what they want to do.
Well I had fun watching a mesmer run away from me and suicide on the stacks of torment I put on him. He probably didn’t know what torment does.
So what exactly did they do to Steal? Or dare I ask…
Real answer, the groups you were joining were morons. Thief has the highest if not one of the highest DPS in PVE still given a situation where you have full party buffs.
PVP is a different story, even when I see a thief on my team I sigh a little now…and I main this class.
I thought pretty much every class has higher dps than thief now?
And yeah, let’s not even talk about thief in pvp
From my POV it looks like, that everyone with a 50% win rate will end up on the top. No matter if he plays with at a low or a high mmr.
I’m not finding that to be the case. My overall winrate is around 60% and in the first day of leagues I had 4 good games and 11 unwinnable disasters. I mean jesus anet I know I’m a literal god and the best necro NA, or least matchmaking seems to think so, but not even I can win a match when I’m fighting 1v3 on mid for over a minute and a half and my team somehow manages to lose home and far. Over half of the games I played yesterday ran out like that.
This is pretty much my experience too, though I have closer to 50% winrate. Most of my games were unwinnable from the start because my team consisted of clearly lower skilled players with bad builds. There was nothing I could have done in half of the games: These players do not communicate, they don’t look at the minimap, they don’t have /team on or they refuse to listen. Or they play a P/P thief which is pretty much a waste of space, eurgh.
When I did win it was against clearly very low skilled players though I’m pretty sure each bad team had one decent player in it. Is the point of the leagues to carry low skilled players with bad builds? I can only imagine how bad the games are for someone with a higher than 50% winrate if this is how bad they are for me.
All the good teams devouring each other in emerald while all the low skilled players already at sapphire, nothing wrong there.
This. I haven’t had a single good game yet. Even the wins were pathetic because I could tell the other team was significantly less skilled than mine.
Mostly I just keep losing and getting a team of clearly low skilled players with bad builds (who still plays P/P thief anyway?)
Well you do get some tokens and gold just for trying one of the bosses. Not sure if you actually need to finish the whole thing numerous times to get the precursor though.
Raiding will get easier when it becomes “routine” to guild groups. Join a larger guild and wait for them to figure out the best comp then join their group when they have spots left.
As it is, I “don’t have time” either. Weekdays I’m too busy/lazy to try raids and weekends… Well, I often find myself doing fractals instead. Faster to get a group, faster to complete and 100% success/rewards guarantee. I don’t really want to wait around for everyone to figure out what they should bring. But that’s just me.
@Maris: I did check reddit regularly and there has been no mention about the bugs (after the Protector of All bug). Even if these forums are a toxic environment, it’s not proffessional to provide valuable information in other environments (as comments in other peoples threads even) and not provide them on the official forums.
And I don’t think any of us believes they will fix the bugs faster the more people complain. But it might be beneficial in the future to make them realise the impact that their decisions have on people. Maybe they won’t provide fixes faster, but the silence treatment never helped the situation. Maybe they could at least work on a better way to communicate with their playerbase.
That’s a shame then. And I agree, they should be answering questions on their own forums instead of going to Reddit to make sure everybody can find them. I for one don’t even use Reddit. But the dev responses there could have also been made on their own free time.
robin – I might not have spent thousands of gold on my fractal weapon skins but I have invested countless hours solely on fractals to get my skins. They have been random drops up until HoT launch so yes, I think I can compare them to a precursor collection. Time=money.
My point is it doesn’t matter what you say on the forums because it won’t make them work on bug fixes any faster. It’s best to just be patient and make sure they are aware of the issues.
As far as I know, some questions have been answered on Reddit. Browse there, maybe they have touched the subject of Nevermore collection bugs too. But seriously, I can’t blame them for preferring Reddit over these forums. We all know people are volatile here.
WTB resistance on all classes.
What happens when you have both slow and quickness on you at the same time? I’m honestly curious. Do they counter each other? Wouldn’t that mean that neither has any effect on you?
Brokenant xD
So true.
Thank you, made my day.
Shiiroi, people are just upset because your thread is concerning thieves, the least wanted profession everywhere in the game. They have been nerfed to the ground on more than one occasion and thief has been generally just trash aside from decapping.
I wish I could help you with your problems versus Daredevils but as it is I haven’t played pvp since HoT launch because ranked games have been disabled.
Interesting view Maris, but … a month, with no comment at all. In the end, we are paying customers, what other business that you buy from treats you like this, I wonder?
Just saying a little patience never hurts. I don’t call the post office if something I ordered is a little late because I know they will deliver it eventually.
Anet has stated that fixes come in larger, less frequent patches from now on. Maybe Nevermore bugs will be fixed with the next patch? In the meantime all you can do is wait patiently, or impatiently.
EDIT: I have waited for them to fix fractal weapon collection since HoT launch so I could get my first golden fractal weapon skin. But I’m not upset they are taking so long because I know they will fix it eventually. I would be upset if in the end they said I need to obtain the same skins again, however.
(edited by Maris.3164)
Way to rain down on his parade, guys.
I’m happy that someone else is enjoying the content too.
Guess you were doing TD meta and trolls kept activating a certain hero point over and over? This happened on my map too. But it shouldn’t be disabled during the meta event. It should be moved a certain distance away from the meta event location instead.

Wow.
That so totally sucks.
This failure thing they have going on. It seriously needs to go.
Especially for a “legendary” quest.
My wife was doing map completion on her elemantalist yesterday and called me to her computer, I figured she needed help with a Vista but no…
She was getting called an idiot a moron and a fool by players who were on a “legendary” quest and needed events to fail. Now I know The GW community comprises players of all ages and backgrounds so I refrained from going nuclear (IRL I’d have planted them). I simply wrote “blame Anet I need this for my heart”.
My wife who has yet to buy HoT on her account, turned off the game, so one less sale for Anet.
That actually makes me very sad.
Obviously this ‘need events to fail to progress’ is really bad for the game and the community. It’s not the first time either so I’m wondering why Anet hasn’t learned from their past mistakes yet. Orrian temples come to mind.
Anet is obviously busy working on the game instead of replying to every post on the forums. Don’t forget Wintersday is right around the corner too.
For crashes – use the 64bit client. As for bug fixes and such – they already said there will be less small patches and fixes will be delivered in larger patches all at once.
Dare Devil is completely OP in the lower sPvP ranks. Above a certain threshold of scrub the true flaws in the class become evident and most of those revolve around the ridiculous amount of AoE and sustain classes now have.
This. Ranked games are still disabled right?
I think Anet have taken the money and run. Gaile, who’s job is to monitor and post, hasn’t posted on anything at all for a week. No-one has posted on any of the myriad of issues for the entire month. Hmmm.
Or maybe they are just super busy working on something?
Have patience, I know it’s frustrating when something you specifically wanted for months is unobtainable due to a bug but they will fix it eventually. Focus on something else in the meantime. Wintersday is coming soon too.
