So getting back in to the game I notices how little there when it comes to variety in Elite skills in GW2, I was wondering if there will be any new ones in the expansion pack.
But what I REALLY would love is if the Elite skill capturing would return from GW1, something about fighting a boss and grabbing out of his elite skills just feels awesome Way better than just buying one with the skill points.
dirext 11 will not sort out a lot when the game is still 32bit.
the only way to get any use out of direct x 11 is to have a 64 bit client with direct x 11 support. until then even If we have direct x 11 while still using a 32 bit client it will be a very small and almost un-noticible improvement.
32bit restricts the game to set amount of ram and other system resources
64 bit has no restrictions on what the game can use. provided you have a 64 bit OS to begin with.
which leads to another problem. a lot of players only use 32bit OS yes us the high end pc gamers have high end PC with 64 bit os and windows 7 / 8.1 but the vast majority do not sadly.
as long as cheap budget PC exist ppl will not get expensive high end PC. also as long as ppl think a low budget pc = xbox one performance we will for ever be plagued with this problem.
That is absolutely NOT true, and if any ArenaNET developer believes this they need to look at the steam hardware survey: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/
As of January 2015 this is the OS split.
Windows 7 64 bit 46.37%
Windows 8.1 64 bit 26.86%
Windows 7 11.07%
Windows 8 64 bit 4.20%
Windows XP 32 bit 3.80%
Windows Vista 64 bit 1.07%
Windows 8.1 0.64%
Windows Vista 32 bit 0.63%
Windows 8 0.31%
Windows 10 64 bit 0.28%
Windows XP 64 bit 0.19%
Anyone who is still under the delusion that most people who have a PC still go around with some junky low end 2005 notebook with WinXP 32bit needs to have a reality check!
My personal system specs are 16Gb 2133 RAM, Intel i7- 3930k Oveclocked to 4.5Ghz, and an ASUS Nvidia GTX Titan, also slightly overclocked.
My specs are decent, I don’t have the latest GPU or CPU, but the fact that this game runs at 15FPS during some world boss fights is just pathetic!
We really need for the devs to get with the times and update the game engine to properly support 64bit and Dx12 or at least Dx11.2.
I do not want any magic switch that will make the graphics better, I just want the performance increase that this amazing game deserves!

Yes they need to do something about it after almost 3 years.
I’ve just built a new pc with a GeForce GTX 970 and when encountering world bosses it evens drop down to around 20FPS…
And that is what I get with a GTX 660ti on world bosses. This game really need some performance improvement…
Yeah the game never really had much GPU issues, this is why nvidia rep has stated multiple times that the game is very CPU bound and thats why they were not releasing any driver optimizations for the game back when it launched.

Any reason you started another thread on the subject?
Other that it fell off the 1st page.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/DX-11-support-WvW-skill-lag-fix
I’m not the person that made that thread.
Anyway, I just want the devs to know that they need to do something about this.
During PAX they said that the HoT expansion will bring a new area, an area that is the most detailed one that they ever made, well with current CPU utilization problems throwing more details on the screen is just going murder the framerate even more.
SOE devs managed to do wonders to Planetside 2 when it comes to multicore optimizations, and since I have a lot of respect for ArenaNet and a lot of faith in their talent, so I don’t think it’s too much to ask.

So I recently started to play the game again because of the new expansion pack announcement and surprise surprise the game is exactly the same under the hood as it was during launch.
The game barely uses my CPU and I have a pretty beefy rig, this causes the FPS to be all over the place, it can be 120+ one second and plummet below 60 the next, and even my Gsync monitor is not much help in those situations.
So is there any chance that the new expansion will come with some tech advancements?
No I’m not asking for better graphics, I’m asking for better performance, other games like WoW did this before, and in WoW’s case the framerate improvement from implementing Dx11 was 50+% for some people.
So any chance of this happening?
Gem -> Gold conversion.
Now you can buy any skin you want for gems.
You’re welcome.
Hmmm. At an exchange rate of $20 cash = 1600 gems = roughly 12 gold? No thanks.
Besides, again, the point of the OP was feedback to Anet about how they could make more revenue and create good will instead of bad will.
Ohhh ok. So you people are whining that you want things for cheaper. I could have sworn this was a thread about not being able to use RMT to buy in game things. Oh wait, it is.
Sorry, no. Here: I’ll put it in the simplest terms possible for you:
Anet would have gotten $50 out of me if they’d charged a straight, reasonable price of $10 per skin.
Anet will not see a single cent from me. Especially not to buy gems to convert to gold to pay jacked up AH prices. Because ultimately, the price this way is too high.
So: they could have gotten $50 from me easily. Instead they get $0 from me. I am not alone. Do the math. Are there more people like me who will pay nothing at all if they can’t pay a reasonable price? Or are there enough people who will pay a more exorbitant price SUCH THAT they make up for all the people like me?
My bet is is that the people who will buy enough gems to pay 50+ gold on the AH for items, plus the people who will spend lots of cash for keys for the slot machine, do not in sum total outweigh the people like me.
It’s that simple.
Ok, so you think the skins should only be worth 5 gold each (~$10 converted to gems). Sounds like you have a problem with there being a free market in the game. The suggestion forum is over here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestionsTry telling them that you want everything available at a fixed price.
In-game player economy <> cash shop real world economy.
Economy and pricing science fail for you, my friend.
Besides, there are numerous recent examples of severe manipulation of in-game player economies. Famous ones. In several games. Even on Maguuma server, quite recently, with a scam delivered by some wily Goonsquad members with a fairly elaborate scheme, the likes of which they’re somewhat famous for. (-gasp- is anyone surprised?)
Are you implying that in the real world market manipulation and price fixing and scams on a large scale don’t exist?
Dude, stop playing GW2 and read some news.
Because Anet only wants your money, not your satisfaction.
They NEED to be a gamble cause Anet gets money this way.
And a company cares for money first , people happy second.
It is a honesty way is thinking , just not one that interest us much.
Yes that’s why they made an MMO with no subscription fee and a gem store that only features silly skins rather than gamebreaking and overpowered weapons/armor.
/sarcasm off
Seriously people, get over yourselves! You sound PATHETIC whining with lines like that.
Are you actually trying to make the case that because people will now be able to get Karma through Dungeons, that this is somehow a “nerf” to the legendary weapons?
Are you trying to make the case that doing this somehow makes things not fair for people who grinded out the karma or something?
Thats beyond stupid dude, some of us here actually like doing dungeons MORE than farming the same spot with a zerg in the Cursed Shore, so please go back to grinding and stop crying now that other people can actually get a legendary weapon by doing something they actually like.
Let me guess. Blue is Blackgate?
LOL dude, if Blackgate is destroying the other 2 servers………………………. then I don’t even know what to say.
We’re in the middle of working on additional fixes for the FOV, we’ll have an update on this very shortly. We’ve been doing some very promising tests internally, will role out more info soon once we’re sure everything is working!

Thank you for this!
Thank you very much, this without a doubt shows the problem quite clearly!
ANET, I know you are getting a team to “investigate this” on Monday, but please, hurry up, and for the love of science please, please, please don’t let the whole “we are getting a whole team assigned to investigate this issue” to not be just some nonsense PR drivel that you did on Reddit to make it look like you’ve put some effort in to the horrible FoV and decided that its all OK and nothing is wrong. PLEASE don’t let this be the case.
so basically, were suffering from a case of the jay wilson plague " im right you are wrong deal with it" that some developers seem to be suffering now a days, there are literally THOUSANDS of people suffering from recurrent migraines from the game but nope…nothing wrong with their camera its our pcs/eyes ……/rollseyes
Thats exactly what I think the problem is.
I don’t believe even for a second that the reasons that they posted were in any way, shape or form genuine. They are just simply trying to cover their kitten for their arrogance, which i honestly don’t even know why they bothered? Maybe they felt in a combative mood that day and decided to pick a fight with their customers/fans? I don’t know, and we might never will.
The biggest disappointment probably comes from the fact that I had a lot of respect for ANET, I thought that they were above all that nonsense, I believed that they were those developers that TRULY cared for their fans and customers and would never stoop so low as to lie so blatantly in to our faces about such a common issue.
I guess I was wrong, it’s kinda of sad now. Because now when I read some new update or a post from ANET, I no longer can just simply believe it, and just simply trust ANET like I used to, now I have to look on everything cynically and understand that they are just as full of kittens as any other development studio and what Im most likely reading is PR piece of nonsense.
you need no more proof then the screenshots posted from users of that tool that show 85/95/100 (ranges in there) fov’s, above 100 I could see the fish eye effect, but at 100 and lower, i didnt see any ill effects, infact, i thought the game looked alot better…
I guessing its just a rooster up that they need to fix, but i doubt they will admit that…..as they are happy with how the game looks and feels…..
I like gw2, i just hate having to run it at a custom res to get it to not feel like im playing with blinders on.
Thats the problem and the reason why FoV became a much bigger issue than it was.
It’s not just the fact that the FoV in this game is terrible, but also because the reasons for NOT giving us the ability to change them were pure nonsense and completely inconsistent with what we know about this game and the FoV.
The FoV is bad, it CAN be fixed, quite easily in fact(because a simple 3rd party mod already does that) but they just don’t want to admit that they screwed up, so we need to continue to suffer so that ANET can save some face, and the devs can preserve their pride.
The are LEGENDARY weapons dude.
They are not a requirement for you to get. They are a very slight upgrade from the exotics, and in a game where gear does not matter much anyway.
They are there for you to get over time, its for those people who play this game for years and years to come.
Just like GW1, its still kicking around and there are still players going at it, they want GW2 to be the same, with lots of people playing for a very long time.
I don’t expect to get a legendary any time soon, and Im not pissing in my boots over it. Play the game and enjoy it, if you rushed through every piece of content available, well then just wait for an expansion pack or something.
Also, would you REALLY be happy if those “Legendary” weapons would be just some common thing?
Basically says if it doesn’t automate gameplay (bots) or give a gameplay advantage (such as speed hacks, fly hacks, teleporting) it should be okay.
Allowing people to look around corners with an increased FoV is a gameplay advantage.
But how, pray tell, do you look around corners with an increased FoV?
Two more screenies.
The first shows character in an open court yard – can not see through the walls but it can be argued that the player sees more! Notice the centered elements that show the one screen view (approx).
Second shot shows player right up against wall. Though it can easily be argued that the player sees more, the player can not see directly round the corner or through the wall into the building.
The second shot is of particular interest in this debate because it does show another corner (to the left with a straw hut) where it can be argued the player can see the corner better. Yet, the player can still not see around the corner or through a wall.
Now, the images both show centered HUD elements. In the ‘native’ game, these screen elements are not centered – the difference is shown (if memory serves) in some of the images I posted previously. The ‘native’ game does support wide screen gaming with the exception of the screen elements being displaced.
The FOV angle is not changed by using a wider screen viewing area – ‘square’ screen versus ‘wide screen’ versus wide screen gaming such as ‘eyefinity’. It is more like the camera position is moved further back in the 3D world – thus making the horizontal view contain more (not quite exactly the same as zooming). That is how it appears to me though I could, of course, be wrong.
EDIT: Reminder / notes about image distortion in ‘eyefinity’! The image in centre monitor is not distorted at all but to the left and right (monitors) the images are distorted and this is because of the way the human eye works and the fact that the side screens account for peripheral vision. To get the image to line up and work correctly with peripheral vision, the two side monitors in an eyefinity rig (3×1 landscape) are set to around 30 degree from flat in relation to the centre monitor. GW2 screen shots do not (normally) show the distortion and this is great for making ‘wide screen’ wallpapers!
But you are using a triple monitor setup.
That setup allows for a very high FoV. Those with a regular widescreen monitor will be happy with a FoV that goes up to 90 or 95.
So where is the argument about game balance here?
Because you are showing an extreme example of FoV, which can simply be capped. And furthermore you are showing an FoV setup is ALLOWED BY ANET! Not just simply allowed but its something they are working on. So the discussion about whether or not this FoV will be game breaking is already been decided by ANET, and they don’t think it is.
well i actually read every post now, and the example and stuff
so FoV is just zooming out of your character?? -_-
yeah, that’s what i got from all of this, and yes is a simple thing
I don’t believe you’ve read a kitten thing.
How many times to do people need to point out that FoV is not zoom?
How many examples and videos do we have to post more?
Please watch this video and the second part it.
If you watch this video and still come back with FoV=Zoom, then I don’t even know what to say.
watched them both, and yeah
all he says is how higher FOV = More stuff you can seewich in THIS game = to longer Zoom out
Min 6:30
“you’r just increasing the amount of information to see”
“More information, same screen size, all things just seem to get smaller”what happens when u zoom out of your character??
you can see more of the enviorement, u still have the same screen size, things seem to get smaller because u’r further away from them!!He also “suggest” (he doesnt really suggest it, but thats what i got from the explanation he made comparing 52" Tv using a console at 10 feet away to PC monitor of 30" at 2 feet away)
that another way to fix it is, sitting further away from your monitor, giving your eyes more space for peripheral vision and making it more comfortable for you!Either way, higher FOV is in Fact and advantage over lower FOV, even if you dont Focus all the things you can see on the monitor, they’r still there, and u would see them if you focus them, that’s an obvious advantage!
plus while u’r focusing the center of the monitor u still have your peripheral view inside your monitors sight, giving you reaction to movement advantage!PS: tnx for the videos, they were very instructive!
How is it you still don’t get it even after watching the video?
Zoom is NOT FoV.
FoV is the degree of the things you see in front of you! Zoom is simply moving the camera further away from the character.
THERE IS HUGE DIFFERENCE!
You don’t understand why this is a problem? Even after watching that video?
The problem is the fact that the people get SICk from this FoV, its been explained so many kitten times, the human eye is just simply no meant to be restricted to such a low FoV, thats why it causes problems for people.
Also, your argument about how it give people an advantage is bull.
YOU and I can go right now to our Nvidia/AMD control panel and create a custom wide screen resolution and get a high FoV, just like the people with 3 monitors!
So the argument that FoV is such a hazard is just pure baloney, ANET already allows high FoV, they just wont allow it on a proper 16:9/16:10 resolutions.
Its a restriction that ANET puts on their player-base for no other reason than the fact that they don’t want to admit that they screwed up, and there is no way that they will concede that they are wrong or that they made a mistake.
Every other excuse is just fluff.
Did the dev really say HL2 uses 75 fov as an excuse? There were so many people having issues with that game due to 75 fov it’s not even funny. The game allowed you to change fov tho, like all good games. 75 fov is for consoles, 90 for pc, these devs….
Well how about we get the option to increase FoV just like in WoW and HL2 then?
Ohhh wait a second, that is just another FAILED excuse.
Honestly this infuriates me the most. They don’t want to increase FoV for no good reason!
Their excuses are so easy to dismiss that you’d think a mindless fanboy wrote them in head of passion trying to defend ANET unreasonable response to this situation.
This whole situation reminds me of DICE and their Bad Company 2 game.
For the longest time DICE refused to allow the m14 and the G3 weapons to have any sort of optic attachments, they have pulled every trick in the book just like ANET is doing right now, they said it would cause untold imbalance, they said they couldn’t do it and they were so kittening STUBBORN about that JUST LIKE ANET.
You know what happened later? People who were hosting dedicated servers found a way to include the optic attachments to the M14 and the G3, and after that most servers started using the third-party fix to include it. After that DICE decided that there is no point on being stubborn and just flat out STUPID on this issue that they have no legitimate reason for, so they went ahead and patched the game so it now everyone can officially use the attachments on those weapons.
This whole situation with the FoV reminds me of this exact same thing!
The developers slamming their foot on the ground and saying NO! We already decided! And it does not matter how inconsistent or illogical our reasons are we wont have any of it! We have spoken and therefor we will not back down from our position based on the principle that we are infallible game developers and we cant be seen as though we were wrong or made a mistake.
Thats ALL Im getting from ANET irresponsible and irrational position on this issue.
We need FoV fixed already.
I honestly don’t understand all these people who don’t know what FoV is trying to weight in with their opinion.
You are not helping anyone with your ignorance.
well i actually read every post now, and the example and stuff
so FoV is just zooming out of your character?? -_-
yeah, that’s what i got from all of this, and yes is a simple thing

If you watch this video and still come back with FoV=Zoom, then I don’t even know what to say.
You know, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, a game published by a company I usually despise, had some FoV issues as well. It’s a console port, what do you expect. Anyway, I don’t know if they ever fixed it, but they DID come out with a response saying, specifically, that they will not ban users for fixing the FoV with a third party app. So on this issue, ArenaNet, you’re making me like you less than I like Activision, and that is really hard to do.
Thats why I buy only CoD games that TreyArch releases.
Black Ops does have an FoV slider
Well i just hopped over to the widescreen gaming site and saw this.
http://www.wsgf.org/news/ncsoft-updates-nvidia-surround-support-guild-wars-2
Ok this is just an insult to the players at this point.
ANET says that the increased FoV is some game breaking and unbalancing thing, yet they continue to actively work and enhance their triple monitor support. You know, those people that have the HIGHEST FoV that anyone could ever get! AKA: Those cheaters and game breakers! (according to ANET of course)
FOV question… Is it nothing more than an aspect ratio thing? I have a 16:10 ratio monitor that appears to look just like the video posted later in the thread with the “better” FOV. And I’ve done nothing to alter in the methods mentioned. In the OPs video I notice that the portrait orientation allows for the wide aspect ratio and gain more vertical view. So I’m wondering if that is somehow a different aspect ratio or something that results in that. I’ve played tons of video games and never once thought I can’t see enough on my 16:10 monitor.
As it is currently set up, there is only two ways to increase your FoV.
Use that third-party tool to increase the FoV on your monitor.
OR change the aspect ration of the game to be wider.
So go in to your Nvidia/AMD Control panel, create a custom resolution that will be wider than the one you have, like 1920×810 for example, and then load the game and change your in-game resolution to that custom one.
You will see a good FoV increase.
Basically says if it doesn’t automate gameplay (bots) or give a gameplay advantage (such as speed hacks, fly hacks, teleporting) it should be okay.
Allowing people to look around corners with an increased FoV is a gameplay advantage.
You can see names through walls… What advantage could looking around corners possibly give?
People like you, who have absolutely no freaking clue about what they are talking about should keep their worthless opinion to themselves!
The FoV increase does NOT allow anyone to see THROUGH walls, this is not a wall hack.
Also, in order to be able to see behind corners, the person would need to set their FoV to an incredible extreme of 190 or higher. At that FoV, the fish eye gets so ridiculous that there is NO WAY to make out any names or class or the amount of people. At that point the only thing people can see around the corner is movement and nothing else.
Such high FoV that you are talking about (which again, Im pretty sure you are completely oblivious to what even FoV stands for) can only be considered good for FPS games, where death is but a second away from a skilled headshot. In an MMO like GW2 such stupidly high FoV is going to do nothing other than hinder the players ability to effectively play.
Here is an example of what happens when you go extreme with the FoV.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfArcszrEc8
Now please tell me the great game breaking advantage of people would would play like that?
(edited by Naminator.9316)
Just simply go to this post here
I and another person already posted screen shots of how you can increase the FoV of the game without using any third-party hacking tool.
All you have to do is use your Nvidia/AMD control panel to create a custom resolution for your monitor, which is very easy, I did it in like 10 seconds, and then just turn on the game and select one of those custom resolutions.
The game will automatically increase your FoV with a wider aspect ratio in the custom resolution.
You wil have to put up with black bars on top and bottom sides of the screen though.
Since some people are simply NEVER satisfied without proof, I would like to present proof for why the 3rd argument is absolutely bogus.
3) gameplay suffers because positional awareness becomes less necessary in a game where combat is greatly designed around positioning.
Here are some screen shots with custom resolutions that I made using my Nvidia control panel, and ANYONE can do this. This is not a hack and its not an exploit, this is just simply a different resolution setting.
This is the FoV you get with regular 1920×1080/16:9 resolution

This is the FoV you get with custom 1920×810/16:6.75 resolution
http://imageshack.us/a/img5/8414/gw006x.jpg
Hey guys, look at all the competitive advantage one could have with a simple custom resolution?
Lol this is awesome.
As someone with a 3 monitor setup, 3x BenQ XL2420T’s on a GTX 690…there is a significant performance difference at 5760×1080 vs 1920×1080 without altering the quality. Just felt that needed to be clarified.
This is due to the huge hop in resolution. The extra fov gives maybe a 5-10% hit, if that. Everything else is the graphics card trying to draw them pixels. I know what I’m talking about here, I keep having slowdowns on my 30" screen in the more graphically demanding games, because
Yes I am aware of that….person I was replying to said that people with “3 screens have an advantage” and that the performance cost is minimal. Which is inaccurate.
Well to be fair, the person running a triple monitor setup will receive a substantial FPS decrease, but that’s only due to rendering x3 more pixels.
However, to prove the FPS hit is not so dramatic with an increased FoV is very simple, and you don’t even have to use any third party software.
Just simply go to any world boss in which the FoV is increased, and see the performance.
The FPS decrease is minimal with an increased FoV, and considering that the fact that we want an OPTION to increase FoV, not X FoV forced down everyones throat, that just simply renders their argument against a FoV slider null and void.
3) gameplay suffers because positional awareness becomes less necessary in a game where combat is greatly designed around positioning.
This is an area that we can agree to disagree I guess, but I honestly can’t see why allowing a player to have a high FoV will suddenly make the gameplay unbalanced, and makes positional awareness less necessary?
Seriously I don’t even get that argument!
That like saying that if I want a better scope on my rifle in a shooter game I am making the use of a rifle less necessary.
The importance of positional awareness will NOT change, the higher FoV will just simply allow people to have a BETTER positional awareness.
Just because I will be playing with a higher FoV does not mean that all of the sudden I don’t need to be dodging those attacks or getting out of that AoE spell. All it means is that I will have a better sight of my surroundings, therefore allowing me to make a more informed and better decision on how to position myself.
Also it’s kinda hard to take this reason seriously when ANET officially supports an increased FoV for people with triple monitors and those who can just simply make a custom resolution with a wider aspect ratio. In both of those instances the FoV is increased. So how can we possibly take their word seriously when they are contradicting themselves in such a huge way?
I would also like to close out with this.
There are many ways to increase your FoV in this game.
Using a widescreen hack.
Changing your resolution to a wider aspect ratio.
Playing in windowed mode and resizing the game to a wider aspect ratio.
Playing the game with 3 monitors.
Fighting a boss like the Shadow Behemoth or one of the dragon lieutenants.
So with all of these ways to play the game with an increased FoV, I find it HARD to believe that this is nothing more than a “It’s my way or the high way” response from the developers. Their excuses are laughable, and they are trying to sound reasonable and get their fanboys/girls to rally for the defense.
I’m sorry ANET, but you are WRONG on this one! You can check my comment history, I have been defending this game and ANET on many things, but I can not defend you guys on this one. You are wrong, and there is no shame to admit that! Haters are gonna hate, and you will suffer criticisms on your thick-headiness on this issue, But I feel that you will gain a lot more respect and support from the community who will BENEFIT from this.
(edited by Naminator.9316)
It’s very hard to actually have a civil discussion on this topic when the reasons for not providing us with a proper FoV options are so laughable.
Not to mention the fanboys that know next to nothing about the subject trying to take potshots at everyone and providing reasons that are beyond their knowledge.
I’ll still try though.
I’ve seen a lot of topics on this both here and externally so let me try and address it. The current FOV is going to stay because increasing it, while having some benefits for some players, has too many drawbacks.
I feel the need to mention that no one here has ever tried to FORCE a FoV change on the entire player-base. We want an option to increase FoV to a point where playing the game does not cause discomforts, things like feeling claustrophobic, eye strains/fatigue, and of course the big one, nausea or motion sickness.
Again, we want OPTIONS, not just another enforced FoV.
1) performance suffers greatly because of how things are built and view distances
If you could just elaborate on this please?
People would like to know what you are talking about here?
Are there specific engine limitations that you absolutely can not overcome, or what?
As for the performance.
This is why the FoV should be an option. People who want to have their FoV high can chose the option and see if the performance decrease justifies the benefits.
Furthermore you have to realize that for many people who have an issue with FoV are those people who will flat out QUIT the game because of it. The issues I described are not some minor pain in the kitten the are game-breaking factors. No one wants to play a game that makes them nauseous after 30 mins.
2) art suffers because of texture tiling, LOD problems and just general stretching from the fisheye effect.
Ok Im sorry, but this by far the thing that infuriates me to no end!
The art does NOT suffer, especially not due to the fish eye effect!
Why do people always think of the FoV as though we all want to run around with FoV set to 200? It’s absolutely ridiculous. We want a decent FoV slider, somewhere in the 60-90 range.
The fish eye effect is not something that the PLAYER (you know, the guy that will be looking at all that fancy art) is going to notice. That is because the fish eye part that will be on the edges of the screen will be in the players peripheral vision, thus making the playing experience similar to real life. For those who don’t know, the humans also have a “fish eye” but no one notices it, just like no one will notice it while playing.
I AGAIN feel compelled to mention that the fish eye effect is not going to be so incredibly dramatic as people are trying to characterize it.

I may be wrong here, but doesn’t using three monitors just increase the aspect ratio and not the full FoV?
After reading through this thread, I was kind of wondering myself if all the FoV sliders in other games only affect horizontal.
Personally, I set the FoV of any game to minimize distortion. Some people claim the distortion doesn’t matter because it’s in your “peripheral vision”, I say your peripheral vision is weaksauce, and even slight amounts are noticeable and disorienting to me.
…or maybe you sit way too close to your monitors. =P
It all depends on your screen size and distance from the monitor.
If you are gaming on a 15-17 inch monitor or laptop then the FOV will not bother you. I game on a 27 inch monitor and this FOV is a pain in the kitten
People seriously need to watch the 2 videos I posted, the person explains thoroughly how FOV works and even draws examples in real time to help people have a better understanding.
The fanboys in this thread defending ANET with their wall of ignorance seem to not understand the ISSUE with the narrow FOV and why it causes certain people to have motion sickness.
For me, I don’t get sick, my eyes however start to strain after some time.
It’s the same effect as when I play BF3 on my monitor through my console, my eyes start feeling strained, but when I load up my PC version of BF3 with 90 FOV, I can game all day long without any issues.
The great level of ignorance of the people telling the DEV what will and will not suffer.. blows my mind.
I’m sure if it would cause no harm they would do it.. you don’t think they test this sort of thing?
The only ignorance here is the one you are displaying.
We are talking about FOV, not some magical, abstract concept that only the people in the development circles know about.
You do know that this would require a complete reworking of the system they use to cull objects and players.. further exasperating the issue with players not popping in.
So yeah, I did my research.. .yet I’m ignorant.
People have already presented the FACTS that people with triple monitor setups already enjoy a higher FOV.
On top of that, the FOV increases automatically when you engage a Boss like the Shadow Behemoth.
So when you try to say that they have to completely rework some parts of the game, even though the game easily support an increased FOV is displaying your ignorance.
Plus, THANK YOU, for telling us the REAL reason why ANET wont increase FOV, I really like the fact that you pretend to know more about ANET reasoning than an actual ANET representative.
Why don’t we just delete you OP and put in what you’ve said?
That’s not really a legit FOV though. That’s just expanding the view on either side.
Ohhh my kittening god………………………………………..
Can the people who are unable to grasp the simple concept of FOV just stop posting their ignorant opinion on the subject?
Dude, just please, go and watch the 2 videos I posted above, and educate yourself.
The great level of ignorance of the people telling the DEV what will and will not suffer.. blows my mind.

So I was watching that video comparing the FOV of 100 to 75. I must be the odd one here but the fish eye distortion from the 100 FoV was actually making me dizzy and nauseous and not the FoV 75.
Thats because you are watching a video dude. When you are actually playing the game, the fish eye parts are left in your peripheral vision, just like in the REAL WORLD you have a fish eye even though you don’t perceive as such.
Also, 100 FOV is a bit much, a good FoV should be around 90-95.
There are plenty of videos on the net here are 2 good ones.

I’ve seen a lot of topics on this both here and externally so let me try and address it. The current FOV is going to stay because increasing it, while having some benefits for some players, has too many drawbacks.
1) performance suffers greatly because of how things are built and view distances
2) art suffers because of texture tiling, LOD problems and just general stretching from the fisheye effect.
3) gameplay suffers because positional awareness becomes less necessary in a game where combat is greatly designed around positioning.
There is a a serious camera problem, however, which is making some players nauseous. We believe a large number of these cases are not FOV related but rather due to bugs in camera smoothing. Because of this we are expediting a quick fix to this issue that is currently in testing and should see the light of day in the next build we do.
Jon
I’m not one of the haters around these forums that preach doom and gloom all over.
And I am someone who constantly defends GW2 and ANET.
But honestly, I find those EXCUSES to be pathetic, and just inconsistent!
1) performance suffers greatly because of how things are built and view distances
SO WHAT?
What business is it of yours? You know what else makes the performance suffer? Just about every single option in the graphics section of setting! Why not just make the lowest option as default then?
This is a weak kitten excuse. People with high end hardware can already run the game on 80+FPS, the few FPS lost wouldn’t matter much.
Also, those people that get motion sick from the FOV are those people who will QUIT GW2, so telling them that they will get less FPS in a game they are not going to play because they get motion sick is just stupid.
2) art suffers because of texture tiling, LOD problems and just general stretching from the fisheye effect.
OHHH COME ON! ARE YOU SERIOUS?
The distortion that the game will get from a higher FOV will not be noticed by the actual player! Because that distortion will stay in their peripheral vision! There is NO WAY that you dont know that! This is just blatant in-your-face BS.
3) gameplay suffers because positional awareness becomes less necessary in a game where combat is greatly designed around positioning.
REALLY?
They why do you allow a much higher FOV for those with 3 monitors? So according to you, the people with 3 monitors get a substantial advantage over those with just one?
Why is ANET allowing that?
I’m sorry but these are the worst excuse I have seen yet!
Ohhh and FYI, we do NOT want a new default FOV added and enforced on everyone! We want a FOV slider that will allow people to adjust the FOV to own liking.
This is not an FPS game, the advantage of a higher FOV is not going to be game breaking in any way what so ever, please stop pretending like it will.

I assume you are talking about the kung fu panda expansion. For a game that had over 10 million active players about a year ago, 2.7 milllion isn’t perhaps what you would hope for.
GW2 is a game with a much more humble amount of followers from GW1, a new game in many senses. How many MMOs can sell over 2 million copies nowadays? SWTOR did but destroyed itself shortly after, sales stagnated very quickly and unfortunately it went downhill from there.
One could argue that GW2 is more fun as a game and without a sub has a much better chance. Time will tell but I think all in all GW2 has done well and I do hope it will grow from there.
I love when people call it kung fu panda yet the pandas in Warcraft 3 came out before the Kung Fu Panda movies. Yeah the pandas were in Warcraft 3 which people seem to now know.
Anyways 2.7 in one week > 2 mil copies over a month for GW2. The 2.7 isn’t even counting China. Of course there won’t be 10 mil sold, but for a game that is 7+ years old and still outselling hyped games like GW2 is amazing. And yes 2.7 in one week is amazing. I will bet the total hits a lot more. Servers still have 45+ min ques.
The game is NOT 7 years old!
Seriously you people are making a GIANT mistake when you carectorize things this way.
Yes, the entire WoW franchise is 7 years old, but they are not reselling the Vanilla WoW here. They are selling a new expansion pack to game that has been revisioned many, many times over the course of these years.
There is a REASON why the Cataclysm expansion pack focused on remaking the old world. The reason is quite simple, and that is because the old world, AKA: The ACTUAL 7-year old wold, is stale, boring, and is just a pain to play through and it scares away the new players.
So like I said in my previous post, there will NEVER be a game that just kills WoW. WoW is not just a game to people that they can put down any time they wish, WoW is an investment! People have invested sooo many hours and soo much money on this game over the course of these 7 years, and such an incredible investment is not easy to just put down, even if the experience is no longer enjoyable. Thats how humans work. That is the reason why people still play games like Counter Strike 1.6, even though there is CS Source and CS GO.
Are you seriously comparing a brand new game to an expansion of a game that has a playerbase of over 10 million people?
Seriously?
If anything, the 2.7mil sales figure speaks badly for MoP, because not even half of their current playerbase was exited enough to get it within its first week.
Honestly the comparison is just ridiculous, especially considering the nature of these two games. GW2 is a game without a subscription fee, the developers do not rely on the revenue from players that stick with the game. And the fact of the matter that this game has no subscription fee means that every single person that went back to MoP can come back any time they wish, and there is no subscription fee barrier that will prevent them from reconsidering.
If you want to compare GW2, compare it to other MMOs in recent history, don’t compare it with the freaking biggest game in the world! You might as well try to compare every shooter game to Call of Duty.
Furthermore, I hope that the developers will never try to think the way you do(AKA: if its not the best then it failed) because we see what happens to games when the developers reach that mind set. Most recent example will be Resident Evil 6, and how Capcom decided that there is not a big enough market place for survival horror, so they decided to make the game more action based to cater to that CoD crowd.
So NO, 2 million in sales is NOT bad sign!
WoW will ALWAYS be on top of the charts and there will be NO game that just comes out and kills it and it does not matter how good or revolutionary the game is!
WoW has a HUGE player base, and that player base has a lot of investment in that game, their time and money, so they are not just going to jump ship all the sudden. WoW will die a slow death, when people will slowly move on to something else.
Chain whip and whip, basically same just different skin. Same for the fists, power orb and spell book, Shield and energy shield, charrzooka and I think engineer have an explosive kit. 1h crossbow? please no D3, 2h crossbow on thief would be just fine. Flail is kinda like a mace but, spears and tridents are similar so nothing wrong with the idea.
Missing Greataxes, buckler (more offensive shield), rapier, and perhaps a wand(elementalist combin buckler and wand for example)
I could agree that chain whips and regular whips could be considered the same, but fist weapons can be varied depending on the type. It would look silly in you had a fist weapon skill that slams the ground and cause a shock, but the weapon has a blade.
Blunt Fist weapons could be considered two-handers while the blade fist-weapon would be a one-hand if not just an off-hand.
Power Orbs and Spell Book are incredibly different in appearance, so I don’t know why they should be considered the same.
As for the 1h crossbow, so what if D3 has it? did they copyright it or something? D3 also has Greataxes, but that didn’t stop you from suggesting them.
I wanted to make a list of weapons that ANET should consider making, I also would like to add more details to this list. Things like ; What class should be able to use that weapon ; and adding things like concept art from other games, movies, cartoons, w/e just for the sake of visualization.
I would also encourage people to contribute to the post, I will gladly add your suggestions to the OP, this way we can have one big organized thread that ANET can look at.
- Two-Handed Crossbows
(Engineer, Warrior, Ranger)
- One-Handed Crossbows
(Engineer, Thief, Ranger)
- Whips
(Mesmer, Thief, Necromancer)
- Chain Whips

- Mutagens/Transformers
(All Professions)
(Weapon that can be placed in to main or off-hand to mutate/transform that hand in to multitude of different things like elemental hands, or robotic hands, or some form of animal-like hands. The limit here is the imagination of the ANET development team)

Images will be added later, a bit late right now
What you guys think? Any more weapons that can be added?
(edited by Naminator.9316)
OF COURSE there will be new professions!
Anyone who thinks there wont be any is just high.
Your fencer sounds similar to the Mesmer. They rely on timing, and being able to get in and out of combat with their blink skill. Also, as others have stated, Monk is being introduced in World of Pandacraft.
Monk is one of the first classes to be introduced in the Guild Wars universe(in 2005), so please lets not get in to the stupid “Ohhh you are just copying WoW” BS.
Seriously it’s annoying.
(edited by Naminator.9316)
Maybe the DR is not triggered by running DEs but when your DR is triggered by killing loads of monsters it effects Karma from DEs?
Most likely a bug.
If you enjoy the game with your low level alts, then don’t let the downers put you down.
GW2 is one of the most mainstream and casual-accessible MMOs on the market, and you should not feel pressured to reach lvl 80.
In fact, that is exactly what Arena NET wanted to do with this game, make it enjoyable on ALL level, making sure that the fun is not taken hostage behind an artificial level barrier.
That would be awesome.
But we kinda need the game to be fixed up first, before the developers take on something this huge.
the ONLY reason it exists is to stretch out the game. no single game in rpg history has this in the enforcement that gw2 has. final fantasy 11 did it right as to will ff14, but this ‘automated’ system is just garbage. should never exist unless people choose it as an option.
it stretches out the content, that is all. its to make up for lack of content pure and simple.
That is not the ONLY reason it exists. It also exists so that you can party with people below your level and so that a high level player doesn’t interfere or destroy the fun atmosphere for the lower level players.
Having played in other MMOs, nothing used to bother me more than needing X number of something (we’ll say Warthogs) and when I headed out to get them, some high level idiot came through with an AoE spell that killed them all instantly because he needed to grind for something, leaving me to wait for the respawns.
Honestly, it’s one of the best features of GW2.
you know how many times thats happened to me? none. i play WoW, THE single biggest mmo and i have yet to have that issue. want to know why? because respawn rates increase based on who and where in a zone. it hasnt been an issue since vanilla wow, something arenanet continues to use as its scapegoat to pimp gw2 despite wow being nothing how it was 8 years ago.
again, ff11 and ff14 will be doing it right.
Yet you just go and ignore the other and arguably the MOST important part of this feature.
Because of level scaling I can now join my friend that recently bought the game and play with him using my lvl 43 alt, rather than starting yet another character.
Sorry buddy, but the game lvl scaling was announced looong before it was ever released, if knowing you couldn’t steam roll through the low lvl areas wasn’t your cup of tea, then you shouldn’t have bought the game.
You want to feel powerful? Go back to WoW! I see the making of new Pokemon champion in you!
You want to feel powerful?
By doing what? Going in to low lvl area and 1-shotting every mob?
Sorry buddy but this is a system that was designed by developers because they have a vision for their game! This is not some stupid byproduct or an afterthought.
Also, a LOT of people, including myself LOVE this feature.
This is a perfect system for people who do not want to create 5 different character, or just simply don’t have the time to do it. This system allows these people to actually enjoy the different low level content without trivializing it!
Sorry dude, but I don’t even understand why you made this thread!
Asking for the level scaling removed is just as asking for them to remove World vs World and stick to sPvP.
It’s a stupid thing to request and it’s not going to happen.
When you tell your girlfriend that you want to inspect her “suspicious bush”
The Virtue of Courage passive effect should have a visible cooldown timers on the skill or somewhere on the UI.
The aegis that it provides is a very useful buff. However, it is very hard to keep track of when the aegis will appear again and due to the fast combat system with a lot of incoming damage, even when the aegis recharges you can miss it easily.
This change is necessary in order to give us(Guardians) a better knowledge as to when to actually activate that Virtue.
Also, I don’t know much about other classes, but if there are any other classes that suffer from the same issue, I believe they should have the same system in place,
People here actually make some good points.
Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2 and WoW: MoP.
3 HIGHLY anticipated games in the RPG circles, so there is a reason why population declined.
Hell I even played for Borderlands 2 and already have Torchlight 2 as well, and if I wasn’t in to GW2 so much, I’d be playing those.
Plus, there re people out there that burned through the game and played like 8-12 hours a day since release, and most likely are taking a break now.
