yeah it gives you enough to unlock core, but not elite, so if you want elite you still need to go to pve. I mean you have to anyway, I assume elite specs gets unlocked by doing some pve
You knew that commander tags might become account bound, yet bought them anyways. The money wasn’t “wasted”. You spent it and got what you wanted. We have to make choices, and that means guessing at what’s going to happen in the future. Do you complain that you bought an ipad 2 a year before the ipad 3 came out, and then go to apple saying “it’s not fair, I want a refund” or do you realize you got use out of the ipad before the new one came out, and you got exactly what you paid for?
Not everyone had the foresight and crystal ball that you have to see that everything that Anet does will become account bound. If that was the case, everyone will hold off buying stuff.
Comparing apple to commander tags is completely different. One is tangible and one isn’t. Not even worth comparing. Besides, I never own an ipad and no intentions to ever own one.
actually that is a fair comparison. If I buy 3 oranges today at $1 each, then next week the price changes to 3 oranges for $1 total, it’s not the fault of the orange seller. As far as being tangible, your in-game gold is just as intangible as your in-game commander tag.
Your real world money is just as tangible as your real-world iPad(or oranges, whatever)
you keep on claiming 8 days. When you don’t have access to GW2’s code or know about their internal development processes, you can’t really make that kind of claim.
I can totally make that kind of claim, I’m a reverse engineer. Its my job to rip code. If it wasn’t for editing rights, and the fact they use their own custom file format, I’d try to fix them myself.
uh no. Even if you’re telling the truth about your job, that doesn’t mean you can make that kind of claim. See the second part of my comment? The one about internal development process? You don’t know how strict their review and approval process is. You don’t know what’s on their project plan. You don’t know how strict their testing criteria are.
As a programmer myself, sometimes it takes me a week to do something, then nothing happens for another week or two while QA waits for other bigger items to finish. Then QA will do full integration, regressions etc for a few weeks. Then nothing much happens as the BAs chase down stakeholders to get approvals etc. Something that takes me personally a week to do, may not reach our Live systems until 3-6 months down the track.
I’m not saying that’s what happens at Anet, I’m sure the process used by a game dev is different from one used by a financial institution. But the fact is you don’t know what their internal process for approval, testing etc is like.
is it just me or are defenders basically complaining “it makes it too easy to attack us” while attackers are complaining “it’s too easy to defend against us”
Personally if it draws out the engagement time for each fight, I see that as a plus. I don’t find it fun to roll over 2 defenders with a 30-man zerg or being rolled over by a 30-man zerg as one defender out of 2-3. It’s a lot more fun when a roughly equal zergs clash.

as a colour blind person, I already get confused by aoe circles that all look white to me even though everybody else says they have different colours like red etc. A green comm tag is going to be very very hard to see for me.
it’s called the RNG for a reason. I feel sorry for you that you are incredibly unlucky, but the fact that some lucky people got them by opening less bags than you means that it is not broken.
I can however get behind Jabberwock’s idea that the tonics be made tradable. Maybe make them account bound only after the first use or something.
Anachnophobia short bow cant be transmuted and has a 3 hour countdown timer ???

The way rare items in this game are designed amounts to not playing the game, rather the only way to reasonably get these in less than 6 months of farming is by playing the Trade Post.
I wish MMO’s didn’t force you to choose between participating in economy minigames or incredible grinds if you want legendary items. If legendaries just cost a decent amount of different dungeon tokens and karma and honor badges, it’d be better than random crafting mat drops. Playing the auction house does not entertain me in the slightest, but it is a requirement for getting legendaries in this game.
By definition, if everybody is special, then no one is. If they do it your way then these things are no longer legendary or special now is it? These are all meant to be long term goals. The people who have them now are either:
A. Incredibly dedicated
B. Incredibly lucky
C. Was supported by their guild
D. All of the above.
yeah, invis bag and I think equipment box will also work.
I’ve seen people running around with the scythe, so they are definitely there. Dunno about actual drop rates though
So I’m trying to get that hint achievement, where you get a hint tooltip if you have too much mail in your mailbox by having my two accounts send mail to each other. Unfortunately it looks like after i hit 9/10 in my mailbox, I just simply stop getting mail until I start deleting my old mail. So I can’t get that hint…
26. I love it. Almost all of the complaints I’ve heard are basically from people who did zero research prior to buying. To which I tell them “It’s your own fault”. Or from people who more or less wants to sit in town all day talking in chat and get exp/karma/gold/exotics for it.
I like the overall design of the game and there are lots of nice little things here and there. I do feel that they really need to disable free server transfers to stabilise WvW though.
I guess I get it. My problem is a system that allows someone to be ranked higher without ever beating them. <.<
As we know all too well, server populations change. The IoJ CD is fighting this week is not the same IoJ we fought two weeks ago … and ET is certainly not the same ET.
Right. That is not my issue. My issue is with the ranking system. If CD can be ranked higher than IoJ even though they have never beat IoJ, it makes me question the ranking system. There could also be more examples. This is just the one I noticed since it pertains to my server.
that’s because this ranking system is for overall performance. Not specific server match-ups. Take a look at stuff like tennis rankings. Some pros have never played certain other pros yet are ranked higher. Look at the world no 1. I can guarantee you that the current world no 1 has not beaten every single other player.
To John Smith,
How do you explain gem prices jumping on non peak days at non peak hours, it may be supply and demand but who’s buying all the time, I’ll tell you who…bots. Bots are ruining gem price fast. …
An interesting item of note:
During the first few weeks, when the BLTC/Awesomium interface was down more than it was up, the exchange rate would rise even when no-one could buy or sell gems. It was a perfectly smooth rising slope. No variation. Looked to be a rise of about 1c/hour or similar.
In other words: No-one was using it, and the exchange rate was rising. I’m not going to point out precisely what that means, because it’s pretty clear. If there are historical records of the exchange rate for the first 1-3 weeks after headstart, you can see it for yourself.
That is incorrect. While the rest of the BLTC was down, quite often the currency converter is the sole thing that is still up. Another thing to note is that during the period when BLTC and currency converter was down for majority of players, it was still up for a random selection of players because they were testing the infrastructure. So in reality, the Currency Converter was almost always up.
To John Smith,
How do you explain gem prices jumping on non peak days at non peak hours, it may be supply and demand but who’s buying all the time, I’ll tell you who…bots. Bots are ruining gem price fast. Obviously free market at this point would just ruin the game even more because of the botters. I think arena net needs to step in and slow the gem inflation or put a daily limit on how much gems can be boughten with gold per account. In the month or so I’ve been playing gems went 280/g to now 150/g, which is close to 100% inflation in that time span. I realize gems are a luxury for gold but it’s just annoying to log on and everytime need to farm more and longer everyday consistently. I haven’t been upgrading my gear as much because I’ve been trying to outrun inflation to upgrade my bag slots/bank slots and get a few extra character slots before inflation really just sucks. I wish I started playing sooner when I heard rates were closer to 500+/g but I feel bad to newer players that will be stuck with an even worse rate then me. Anyways back to the gold grind!
non peak days and non-peak hours? It’s a global economy, every single hour is peak hour somewhere. Inflation happens not because of bots, but because more and more people now have gold to spare. And when they have gold to spare, a significant chunk of those people will choose to buy gems. That’s plain common sense. Bots have no reason to buy gems. It would be stupid for gold farming bots to buy gems. Customers of gold farming botters might buy gems, but even then it’s unlikely since they bought gold in the first place because they wanted to use the gold for things like exotics, crafting mats etc.
how anybody could ever think that a crafting profession and it’s learned recipes are account bound is beyond me.
When will people learn to develop some common sense?
Given that it is only a chance and not a guaranteed bonus, there is also the possibility that some of you are incredibly unlucky. I know I personally have had streaks where every single hit nets me 2 of the material I was trying to get. And there has also been times when I can go days and not see it happen once despite my server having some nice bonuses.
They should still investigate though, just in case there is a bug preventing some people from getting the WvWvW bonus.
I don’t understand the current gem economy, something is broken with your formula ANet.
Apparently there is a HUUUUUUUUGE demand for “GOLD TO GEM” transactions. Evidence of this is that when I started playing, 1g would net 277 gems. Now, 1g gets you 170 gems. That’s a big change.
However, the opposite is not true for “gem to gold” exchange. If I spent 1g to buy gems now, and then I turned around to sell gems for gold, I would lose 30silver. This doesn’t make any sense to me, at all. If there is huge influx in “gold to gem” trading, shouldn’t it RAISE the price of “gem to gold” by like… A LOT as well? Shouldn’t gems sell for more if they cost more to buy? What gives? You don’t seem to want people to actually sell gems for gold.
Hence, enter the gold sellers, hence the economy of GW2 is in deep kitten.
the exchange rate moves in sync at all times as proven by spidy:
The reason why there is a gap is that this system is designed as both a gold sink and as a method to encourage gem purchases for people who may not necessarily want to buy anything that’s on offer in the gem store. It is not really meant to be used for you to make a profit by exchanging currencies back and forth in quick succession.
Although based on the info I have apparently some people actually have claimed to make some profit from the currency exchange, but theirs was a long term investment.
1. As mentioned before you can actually skip it.
2. Stop exaggerating, that jumping puzzle is very easy. Listen to Sieran when she talks, she tells you exactly what you need to do. Just like all jumping puzzles, if you patiently assess the situation and note the timing of wind/mobs etc you’ll find that it’s actually not that hard. And FYI, I play from the Oceanic region with crappy internet, my minimum ping seems to be about 250ms. I am also terrified of heights, I get cold sweats and my body often freezes when doing jumping puzzles (especially Dark Reverie and that Asura one with all the lava that’s on the same map). If I can do it, then unless you’re a 60+ year old with a nerve condition that gives you unsteady hands, you really should be able to do it.

iirc, I use Black Cherry for black on leather(not 100% on the name) and Frost for white on cloth.
Looks like it created “buy orders” instead of actually buying them…weird. But thanks for pointing out that it might had done that…I had like 36 gold sitting in there in supposed buy orders that I never placed. Now my character is doing the happy dance!
Apparently it had been giving me buy orders every now and then instead of actual stuff for a long time and I never noticed.
I don’t think it was giving you buy orders instead of actual stuff. I think what happened is that you saw something for sale at say 12s. In that second between you clicking ‘Buy’ and the system actually grabbing the item, other people bought all of the ones that are for sale at 12s. So you end up placing a buy order. Similar things have happened to me before, I was about to buy something for 6s. In the 1-2 minutes it takes for me to decide to buy, the price had jumped to 15s since a lot of people bought the items that were sold between 6s and 15s
One token to rule them all.
Any character to find them.
One vendor to bring them all,
And in the forge bind them. The main problem we see with a universal token system, is that players will find the easiest dungeons they can do within the DR system’s influence range, and just do them over and over.
It would be like if people could use all their CoF tokens from the speed/exploit clears, and buy up Arah Dragon armor. Were that the case, the armor itself would have no real value behind it. When you look at a player and you see a full suit of dragon armor, you know that they did a certain thing to get that armor. With a universal token system, you lose that sense of knowledge of what another player has gone through to get what they have.If this is the case , why not add a token wallet type thing so we don’t have dozens of tokens taking up valuable bank and bag space? This is the similar kinda of issue for the wvw siege weps taking up way too much space and character specific and not account bound
Your character can have I believe 100 slots in their bags, 120 if you pay for the extra bag slot. And with the multiple guild system you can easily have your own personal bank guild as well. How many things do you carry around anyway? I usually have like 3 consumables, at least 2 salvage kits, one or two extra weapon sets(so up to 4 slots), 9 gathering tools. And someday plan on having at least 1 extra armor set in my bag at all times. So that’s 24 slots that are almost always filled. Leaving me with 76 slots for all other things. That seems like a lot to me. And with the bank slots, since there is a collectibles tab, you don’t really need that much either.
^ there was no change. This has been true since beta and beyond. It was in fact advertised as a small selling point, no crafting node stealing
I’ve done the Shield of the Moon thing(not on this account), and found the dialogue was actually fine. I mean I felt some of it was cheesy, but there was no missing VO or anything like that
I did recently did some Asura PS though and encountered about 3 or 4 cases where the first line in a cutscene was missing VO. Just like others said, this could very well be a new bug.
If the 4 digit code at the end is different. It’s likely a different person and account.
